Speaker 1 (00:02):
What would you talk about on your on your podcast
present morning show? Embarrassed in my life? I find that
hard to believe. Are you talking about? No, guys, it's
a fifteen minute morning show. I'm scary. There's Bethany, there's Brody,

(00:25):
there's Danielle. You are you're feverishly typing away your computer.
I know, because there are so many loose ends I
need to tie up before tomorrow. And one of them
is like paperwork. Right, So I just realized I have
paperwork I have to print out and have sent and
paper work? What was that? What was that? That? That
slick moment in the hallway I saw where you just
took this envelope with a key in it and you

(00:46):
just pass it over to somebody is not all about Yeah. So,
so part of part of working here is we have partnerships.
And you guys know, I work with Chevy. I've worked
with Chevy since I started here, um, and they've been
like my BFF partnership. UM. And part of it is
that I lease a car from them so that I
know what I'm talking about, you know all that stuff,
and so I have to give my car. No, no,
I think they should that should be a hardy gift

(01:07):
and not think it sad because I love love that car.
So what are you gonna do for a car? I
got no car now? Oh so I mean it's okay
because it's you know, it's you don't just like get
to have a cart. You have worked so hard with them,
they should say. Here, I have to say, it hasn't

(01:27):
been any work at all. It's been a pure pleasure
and work. I will say if you are looking to
buy a car by a Chevy, and I say that
with love because technically I'm not even working with it.
I have watched your your web series Labeled, which is fantastic.
Series dot com. Perhaps Labeled series dot Com will provide
you a car that's one of your many future endeavors
in the category what are you gonna do? Just like,

(01:49):
if you need a car, you can get one of
those zip ones or whatever. Yeah, yeah, or you know. Um.
The good news is, I mean, the thing I really
used my car for is that I have a friend
who of in upstate New York, and so I would
you know, drive out to see her on the weekends
or whatever. Um, And she literally just moved into the
city this same week. I have to give up my car.

(02:10):
So it's perfect timing. So now she lives in Brooklyn
and I don't have to drive to see her. But
it would be hard to like, it's hard to say
goodbye to it. As someone who lives a half hour
away from the city, I guess I won't be seeing
you well, but when you're in the city we can
hang out. Also, I don't I don't hang with people
without cars, you know. Oh wow, that's terrible. I live
like six minutes from the city. And how many times, Bethany,

(02:32):
have I asked you to hang out during school nights
in the past and You're like, it's an o'clock, I'm
going to bed, it's nighttime. But now I'm fun employed
as of tomorrow. And so thankfully you have uber and
lips and so if you did want to hang out
with Brodie in the morning to the saddest part will
be Actually, it's not having a car that's gonna be hard.

(02:53):
It's saying goodbye to my car. That's hard, because that's
the it's it's my tracks, it's my suv, it's my baby.
Have to give it. Any I don't know they're doing
it like today tomorrow, I think I saw her give
the key over to somebody. Wait, I just walked in.
You're giving up the chevy. I said that would be
a nice parting gift, don't you think? No, it's I am.

(03:15):
Plus it's expensive to park in this you know it's
it's all, but I'm you'll be unemployed. You can afford
parking in New York City. It's fun employed. And I
have a friend who also is funy hold was a
term fun employed? Oh I love that. I've never heard
that before as opposed to what's been going on for
the past five and heave years. What a great talk
topic for the show. Unemployed call us now if you're

(03:38):
fun employed right now. But I have a friend who
I wasn't fired. I was fired up. He's a he's
a musician and he just left his job in television
to go be a musician. And he says, now we
are creative professionals, which is a fun way of saying unemployed,
funemployed unemployed. When we're starting the podcast, I opened by

(04:00):
telling you guys, I was embarrassed, but then we got
thrown off on a tangent. Yeah, so what happened to
you last night? This is embarrassing. I actually was out
to dinner with with my girlfriend. And here's my advice.
Do not eat stone crabs when you're on a date. Dude,
I think the romantic, Well, yeah, but it's hard to
get the meat out of the shell. So I had this,

(04:20):
I had this nutcracker with me. I crunched the nutcracker
with the you know, the shell. All of a sudden,
a big piece of the sharp shell and you know,
stone crab shells are very thick, went flying to the
next table and landed on the table of the couple
next to us. It didn't land in someone soup. No, no, no,
I was. I was like so embarrassed. Yeah, they looked over.

(04:42):
She goes, are you throwing stuff at us? And then
she started laughing, and I'm like, I'm so sorry. Guys. Anyway,
there's no neat way to eat stone crabs if you're
on a date. Now, there's certain date foods that you
have to be really aware of yourself or you have
to avoid. Spaghetti is a big one. Um, anything that
has poppy seeds or small green bits you have to

(05:05):
be really aware of because now you're worried about your teeth.
The whole time, I felt like I left all the
meat in the shell, and I didn't get my money's worth.
I was so upset with my dinner last night. But
all scary but season she was Valentine's Night too. Yeah,
Now did you take her to that Sports Illustrated party
that we told you not to take her? She wanted
to go? Yes, we went wait wait, wait, what do

(05:26):
you mean she wanted to go? You told us she
didn't want to go. Well, I said to go. I said,
you get back to me with an answer, and you
like said all the reasons why you wanted to go,
and then told her to make the decision. I told her, also, here,
do your research if you want to go. They look cool,
like cool party. By that time, she was going to
say yes, okay. So what were the highlights of these
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition party with your girlfriend on Valentine's Night? Well,

(05:48):
the DJ, Samantha Ronson was spinning, you're not wearing shoes
because you might get name drop on them. Oh my god,
I love Samantha. Yeah, we all do. She's she's a
great she's a great DJ. And so it was at
this place Magic Hour, right, drop Boxy Hotel, No drop.

(06:10):
The weather was so nice in New York City last
last night that they actually opened up the roof. So
the roof came opening, and like all of a sudden,
the dome opened and then the Empire State Building was
lit and red and it was so lighted in red
and it was so nice, and so that was great.
That was correction. So, uh, did you run into any
big celebrities of the party. Yeah, tire Banks was there. Um,

(06:32):
Kate Upton brush past me. Did you take any pictures
with any of them? Okay, well that's that's a problem. Uh.
So we have a partners a Tourism was the one
tell the story. They're the ones who got me into
this party, which I had no business being at in
the first place. So they got they got me in

(06:52):
and I was sitting there because no, because no, you
have to understand something. The backdrop for the magazine Sports
Illustrated was done. Most of the models were in a
rule but when they took the picture, that's what they're
they're tieing. Was to the point where you met Kate Upton.
So she was there talking to people. She was mingling
and she was talking and she was taking pictures with
her friends and other people that were coming up to her,
and then I went up to her and I said, Hi, Kate, like,

(07:13):
I'm scary from the Elvis Dea Rand show. You you
know you came up here a couple of years ago.
She goes, oh, yeah, yeah, nice. And we just a
couple of lines of small talk and then I'm like, hey,
can we get a picture real quick? And she's like, yeah,
we we can do that, and and and then she said,
well hold on, let me get my friends. And then
she like awkwardly backs away and then fades into the crowd,

(07:37):
and she just she just could have backed away from
that was the end of that away from the creep.
In Kate's defense, she doesn't like to be photographed. She doesn't.
She's a model, she's the swim a lot of money
to do being facetious. She fell off a rock on
the photo shoot went viral. Well I know, but I
noticed today when Iggy Azalea was here at the studio,
you went up to get a picture with her, and

(07:58):
she sort of backed away from you too, do you
guys to him? It was so much up in me
Kate up, Like like Kate up, ran from you at
the party, ran from you at our studio. I don't
know why I don't do I have an awkward way
about Okay, look, they may not know who you are
because you and you walk up to them, you go, hi,
I'm scary. Who's good? Who's gonna run to that? Tell

(08:21):
you what such your name was, Anthony? That might be different.
When you say scary, they don't hear scary. They hear
scary fighting right, and you kind of sometimes you we
don't know how to stand like. Your body language is
a little like uncomfortable. Were you making it get nervous?
Were you're making eye contact with Kate Upton when you
asked her for the picture? You were looking up? I

(08:43):
was to think about it though, Yeah, no I was.
I was looking at her, okay, looking right? And what
are you supposed to look him right in the eye?
Or is that bad? You were looking at her breast? No? No, no, no,
no no, no, I want But you know what, there's
one more thing that scary does that he well we
just finally pointed this out several weeks ago. He sometimes
closes his eyes when he's speaking. Did you go up
to up? Didn't close your eyes and go high? I'm scary?

(09:06):
All these things work in work in concert to really
cause a bad symphony or might be a little off pudding.
Maybe do you wanna maybe do you want to practice
just not like now, but in general talking with your
eyes open, like having someone call you out when your
eyes are closed, because that might have to help toothpicks
between my eyelids. We'll just like have be talking to
someone and have them like let you know when your
eyes are closed, because that might help you not maybe

(09:30):
now you're holding your eyes so far wide open eyes
and now it's really crazy. I don't think it looked
like Burt from Sesame Street just there anyway, all right,
Well that's all. That was the party. It was okay,
it was good. But I do think there should be
a way to get feedback on the way people perceive you,
because you'll never be told otherwise you might be sucking

(09:51):
up Black Mirror one day, that ship's going to happen,
because you know that show. We've been watching Black Mirror Netflix, right,
it's Netflix. Yes, So yeah, there's one episode where you
walk up to somebody, right and you have your phone
and you just lifted up and it will say your
name and will say what status you are, like how
you're rated and if you don't have like a five

(10:11):
star of whatever, they'd be like, oh, you only have
three stars. I can't talk to you, and you work
away from that. And that was such a sad episode,
that one starring uh Howard Howard. Yes, I'm Jurassic Park
and everything, so you yeah, so this looks like the
future could be. Oh so sorry you don't have his

(10:32):
higher rating. I'm walking. I can't talk to you, and
that idea scares me. But I would like feedback because
I had actually somebody emailed me yesterday, somebody that we
work with but who doesn't know me as well, and said,
I saw you yesterday and you look really upset about
something like are you okay? And I was, like he
mentioned when it was and I realized I was fine
in that moment. So I just look pissed sometimes. But

(10:56):
you know, it's good to have that kind of feedback
because you guys get used to it and so then
you no longer say like, are you okay? Ye, snow,
I look pissed. But sometimes it's Bethany. You want somebody
come up to you and say, hey, I just noticed
when you shake people's hands for the very first time
you meet them, you have a look on your face
like you're really not interested in them. As a matter
of fact, you look around them and to see who
else is in the room. You want to hear that,
absolutely because it means I can work on it. Okay,

(11:18):
well then there that's my feedback for you. Really, I
think that's going to happen one day. But like with
like I'm not even kidding, you'll have your phone and
I'll look at you and go, oh, yeah, you just
look sad. So you need to work on that and
then walk away from it. It's gonna happen, Okay, Ship's
gonna happen to five rate scary in first impressions? Ye

(11:39):
would you? Would you give him a five or four?
But I've known him for thirty years, so it's it's
I don't know, but I think maybe, like Bethany said,
saying Anthony instead of scary is good because when you
say scary, it sounds like frightening. Yeah, people don't understand
your your name is scary. Be'st k E E R
Y s c I R. How are you spelling? Think

(12:00):
what he thinks is that people will know him from
the show, and so if he says his name, they'll go.
They may not. You could even say Anthony scary, so
they can bring on the name. And if they don't
know you, then saying I'm Anthony from the Elvis Duran
show means the same thing to them. This is true
as long as they know the Elvis part. Like when
you get reservations and restaurants, when you say Anthony from
Elvis Duran in the Morning show, they give you a table.

(12:21):
We all went out to dinner that one night with
that Froggy was in town and we had this giant
table and I don't know where, maybe the kitchen, and
the server was like, and will Elvis be joining you
tonight or are you waiting for Elvis? And apparently his
name had been dropped so we could get the table,
and they were wondering, here, you're dropping my name at
the table. At the time, it was one of the
most difficult restaurants to get into in the city. So

(12:42):
I said, I gotta go with my my a game here.
So when I called them up, I mentioned from the
Elvis Durand show, and then the name Elvis Durand resonates
with people, so they gave us the reservation. But when
we showed up. Yeah. The hostess said, well, Elvis be
are you waiting for Elvis? Or is there one word?
How do you think we got that steak dinner at
the fancy steak place at Delmonico's He checked in as

(13:04):
how Scary Jones from Elvis straight in the Morning show
naturally syndicated he does that at Applebee's. Or when we
were taking somebody out for graduation once and I said, oh, yeah,
we're gonna go to Friday's. Call ahead and tell them
who we are so we can get I'm like, what
I'm calling Friday Friday? How much do we have? We
have about a minute and a half. Okay. So one
time my assistant wanted to get a reservation for a

(13:25):
friend at an Italian restaurant and and my friend said, Hey,
can you call on behalf of Elvis and get me
a table for two? And uh he said why? Said,
because they don't have a table until nine o'clock. So
my assistant called and said, Hi, I'm calling from Elvis
Duran's office. Can we get a table for dinner tonight?
They said, yeah, could you tell Mr Elvis Dree we
don't have any tables available? And then the person called

(13:50):
back and the nine o'clock table was still available. So
is this was a situation where they used they heard
someone trying to drop someone's name and it backfire. Look
not everyone. Let me tell you, no one knows who
I am, and in those restaurants they don't give a
But you've got people calling all day saying I'm a doctor,
I'm a surgeon. Like people use their occupations in general,

(14:12):
not just in an entertainment world. I've known people to
do this and it works a lot of times. They
will give a higher consideration if you say someone you know,
sir so and so, if you put a front of
what if you're fun employed. We have a dear friend
who works with us at I Heart. She's married to
a gentleman named Robert Kennedy. Very distant relationship, but very distant.

(14:36):
And so when they call and make reservations for Robert Kennedy,
they always get to say, always, every single time, to
change your last name to Kennedy. Scar Yeah, Hire Minute
