Speaker 1 (00:02):
What would you talk about on your on your podcast.
Firm represents show and we're bad. We're back. Hey, this
is our first show since we've come back from a
week long vacation, a well deserved vacation. I may add,
(00:27):
I never apologize for us taking vacation. I'm not going
to do it because honestly, every like you said, everybody
deserves vacation. But when we get off, the time we
get up, for some reason, you get exhausted, quicker and
you need to coffee is not enough after after time,
it really isn't you know? I think. Let me go
(00:47):
around the table. First of all, Scary Jones is here,
everyone superstars of the Morning Show, including Dave, Brody, the
Other Brooklyn by the other one, and of course there's
it's Brooklyn, Brooklyn's own Scary Jones and Brody. That's exactly
how By and Scary of course. Uh, A good American
(01:07):
Garrett is here. Garrett and Scotty b is joining us today.
And there's a there's a many reasons. There are many
reasons why. First of all, he's a member of our family.
But secondly, you had to hold down the fort while
we were away last week. I want to see what
that was like. Yeah, it was fun. Also, Danielle is
here getting your makeup done? Yes for after Elvis. We'll
be doing after that. So Dina, who does makeup, is here. Hi, Dina,
(01:31):
you were getting ready for after Elvis. Look up, she's
doing your under And of course senior executive producer Straightened
is here and el alright. So we took vacation last
week and the number one complaint was in the playback
of our best of segments, there was a lot of repetition.
(01:52):
There was a lot they said that we played the
same things over and over and there's a reason why
we'll get to that. You wanna get to that, Well,
let's just say this. Uh, bits were played. There are
a couple of bits that played twice two hours apart,
because different on different days, because there's a different listening audience,
because it's you don't listen for two hours, you listened
for twenty minutes, forty minutes. Most people Greg team made
(02:15):
a major base running mistake. Oh, he's not here to
defend himself, so that's not He aired this bit with
our producer Samantha at six fifty am and then two
days later at seven ten am that was an error.
It was supposed to be at six fifty am and
a fifty am, so that was a problem. So that
specific segment played twice and the same audience heard it.
(02:40):
It was it was a mistake, and we apologized, but
it sounded like we played at ten times and it
was one mistake. No, no, made a lot. Don't forget
about the bit that played three times, which one was
that there were three different hours. It was something about
how do you apologize or something like that. I forget,
but it ran three times. We're sorry about the apoloma.
(03:00):
Let's go ahead and address why that was. Now, with
Bethany's departure from our show, something that's totally out of
our power. It was it's all corporate stuff, attorneys, this
and that. Uh, we just were not allowed to run
any any of Beththanese Bethanese participation in the show on
(03:22):
any shows. That's just the way it is. It's it's
and everyone in the business understands why. It's just something
that we do. It's just I don't like it, but
that's what we had to deal with. So therefore we
didn't have a lot of material to work with. Well,
I guess we're still a lot of play t J
stuff and maybe some Carolina because I heard some of
that as well, laughing, laughing, didn't speak, they're giggling in
(03:45):
the background. That's good, but I could catch the laugh. Okay, good,
But anyway, so let's let's go to senior executive producers
straight Nate for a full explanation. I just I think
you just gave the explanation. You gave the abridge and
actually the just the version in that that anybody needs
to know. It's beyond our control. And I give Greg, t,
(04:06):
Sam and Scary a lot of credit for being able
to cobble together in weeks long, absolutely weeks long worth
of of shows that didn't have Bethany's voice or participation
in it. So you guys did a great job. Scary
don't come in here and started ragging on great t
here and did a good job. It's hard to do
these things, and he's not here to defend himself. That's
new rule. Nobody leaves the show within five weeks of
(04:27):
a vacation. Well, it doesn't work out that way. And
just just so you know, just because that was a
decision made beyond our control, we're all still in contact
with Bethany. I talked to her this morning. I text
her to her several times a week I did during vacation.
(04:49):
I liked a few photos of hers on Instagram. And
the Acquired Taste podcast is still alive. They're still doing it,
so you know she's sitting right next to Scary. You
just can't talk, just NodD your head, worried about vacations
though I wanted to talk to you about with this part.
I just wanted to say this. You taught me Alvis Durant,
(05:09):
because the first five years of my life here at
the radio station, I refused to go on vacation and
you pulled me aside one days. It's scary. You've got
to go on vacation and hear the reasons why, and
you gave your reasons. You have to go on. You
need a mental reset, you need everybody needs that. So
now I'm very happy to go on vacation every time
you say we're going on. But a lot of people
don't get scared. I think because they think someone's going
(05:30):
to replace them. Americans don't take their full vacation. They
leave days in their bank and then they expire terrible.
I encourage it replace us children. God right now, by
all means, go find someone to replace. Where did you
go on vacation? Grandma Grandma's tired Turks, which is better
(05:55):
than didn't go to Kakos. Tacos is better than I've
never never men. That's where the rich people go to Kikos.
I don't know you're gonna say something. Yeah, I was
gonna say. One of the things that was beneficial to
the listener and hearing the Best of Bits is a
lot of people, according to social media, heard this podcast
for the first time because we put a couple in
the best of Times. We got a text yep, we
(06:17):
got a text message this morning from someone that said
they listened to a hundred episodes of the fifteen Minute
Morning Show, which is twenty five hours, and a lot
of people said they had They went and listened to
all of our podcasts. They had never listened before, and
it gave them something else to listen to. Let me
address that, sir. I don't know if you know this,
but February I got this from Chris Peterson, who keeps
an eye on our podcast traffic. He says that February
(06:39):
was the largest month for the Elvis Duran network. He
said Brooklyn Boys had a huge month with two hundred
and thirty five thousand listens, up over a hundred thousand
from their previous best. Also, Froggy has embraced his Playing
through Golf podcast his numbers growth even though it's a
(07:00):
brand new show. The growth is fantastic. Ben't that neat?
I love hearing that. But yeah, Brooklyn Boys, this is
our new podcast. We gotta keep an eye on. Well.
We have the app on our phone that shows us
the listens and so scary and I spent the whole
week sending screenshots back to each other going, oh my god,
we just hit. It was a good week for us.
Good for you. But I think it's also because you've
(07:20):
been mentioning us, and we run promos on the show now,
so I think it helps everybody. So next time we
go on vacation, we're trying to figure out should we
just have someone come in here and do a live show.
I think Bobby Flay would take over if you gave
him ample that if you told him we're going three
months from now, he'd been put he'd be great. He's
very good on radio. He's great on radio. But here's
(07:41):
the deal. With our show. We've been doing it for
so long. We take this for granted. It takes a
lot of material to do our show because we have
these big blocks of time we have to fill up. Yeah,
there's twenty three minutes at a time sometimes and you'll
go for forty exactly. We definitely have to fill two
hours of show every day out of the four hours
(08:02):
that we're on. That's that's a lot of show. It's
a lot of materials. Who do you think he would
have on as his guests? He'd have all chefs coming in.
What about like a hybrid best of show where we
host comes in and does it live, but then plays
clip like segments to like the best stuff, So it
has that feel to it. We used to do it
back in the day. Yeah, when you would take off
(08:25):
or miss a few days, we had someone come in
who was a DJ on the radio station, Cubby, who's
a still a friend of ours, and then he would go, okay,
So they had this great conversation a few weeks ago.
Let's take a listen. I really don't have a problem
with us rethinking this just kind of let's let's break
it and start over. Hey, I love the idea of
(08:46):
playing fIF fifteen minute morning show podcasts on the show
like this right now could actually work out, although this
one specifically not. It's good. I mean it's it's not.
It's a recap. It's fine. I think a recap is good.
That's the whole point of the fifteen minute morning show podcast.
It's a recap. We talked about stuff at a level
you we're not going to talk about on the other show,
the Big Show. There you go, so vacation. It was nice.
(09:10):
I know Garrett stayed home and played Mr Dad. Yeah,
I kind of gave my wife a vacation. So you're there.
You're a great dad, a great husband. Yeah, that's awesome.
I got to go out if you I want to
go see a great show on Broadway called The Play
That Goes Wrong. So if you're not a fan of musicals,
this is just straight acting for two hours. And the
whole concept of the show is it unravels as the
(09:31):
show goes on and it falls apart, the sets falling down.
You're supposed to be an amazing show. Very funny. I
went to a casino night Have you ever been to
a casino night night? I didn't realize that you don't
get money back. So I spent money at a casino
night raising money for child children's charity. Oh good, you
lose everything? Well, yeah, so I gave. I gave a
lot of money, thinking hey, I have almost a thousand
(09:51):
dollars worth of money. I got raffle tickets back and
then and then I put it into a bass. I
didn't realize that I didn't you help people. I did,
which was great, but I didn't realize you didn't get
money back from more than I got when I went
to the casino this week, I didn't get anything, and
none of the money went to charity. Brod Brodie went
away for a night by himself. That's all he could
(10:12):
stand to do on his own. Why is there a
reason you only went for a night one? I drive
myself crazy if you talk to yourself, I did, and
that's what the problem was. Uh, And to you know, I,
I don't. I told you in one of the previous
podcast I don't want to spend that much money on myself.
I would rather spend some of it on a family thing.
So I treated myself to one night and then the
blizzard hit on Friday, and we came home and I
(10:33):
came home in a blizzard with trees falling down. For
this blizzard crap, Elvis, I want to know about Nate's
vacation because pure people were skating on a river talk
about the ice cracking. I'm gonna okay, I'm gonna call
you out first, all right, because I'm about to go
on vacation. I'm about to board my plane. I get
this text from Garrett and he goes, good luck on
the proposal. What the hell, man, I'm gonna respond. So
(10:55):
I didn't responnd because which made me think even more
that it was happy he texted your girlfriend. You know, everybody,
everybody thought I was going to propose it. Have been
coming up to him today in the hallway and saying, Nate,
I really thought you were getting engaged. Come to me
when you want the ring because I have a good
tourl okay, well okay, so why did everyone assume you
proposed I was going to Paris? And apparently that's the
(11:17):
thing you do it ring to What are you going
to do up there? I don't know. I'm just gonna
go look at the view. I'm not going to propose anything.
Do you think she thought it was gonna see, that's
what I'm thinking now. Because we had all these romantic
things that we did, she expect it. Ye, we went,
we went to Paris and we're sitting on the We're
sitting on some steps eating some gelato, and she looks
(11:38):
at me and she goes, I guess it's not happening here.
Got awkward? It was very awkward. Did you propose? No? No,
I was going, just as Nate was going on a
trip to go on vacation. Why can't you go to
romantic places and not propose? We don't even try with
you anymore. Guy was never going to propose. So when
(11:58):
while I was in Turks and Caicos, I posted photos
of Alex and Meat in front of the sunset looking
at each other talking, it turns into this explosion of
people going, Wow, did you guys you married? You? Are
you getting married? Now? You propose? There was nothing in there.
All the stars were aligned in the photo, rings on fingers.
For me, it was what you wrote, I wrote from
(12:20):
sunrise to sunset. I took that as, oh my gosh,
they just got engaged. They're going to spend from sunrise
to sunset together forever, breaking down from sunrise to sunset.
That means we're proposing to You're getting up in the
morning with them, and you're going to sleep every single night.
From Fiddler on the Roof, Sunrise Sunset means the beginning
of your life to the end of your life. It
(12:43):
seems like a life Sunrise sunset. So we're My favorite
songs from Fiddler on the Roof is do you love Me?
Do I work? Do you love me? Yes? I love you?
Wasn't matchmaker? Is matchmaker? From that match? We did not get.
(13:07):
We did not become of be engaged. Alex didn't sing
if I got a rich guy did not. But going back,
looking at your photo, Elvis, does it kind of look
like a proposal photo. It looks like two guys on
a beach with a sunset. I loved your pictures and
(13:31):
I didn't I because Daniel, you don't want anyone's pass
judge it on you. So you don't pass judge, Daniel.
You're a vacation what you do? So I actually had
a staycation. I did some work in my living room
because I'm trying to redo my living room. I went
to see um Frozen on Broadway, which is amazing, not
just for kids. A lot for adults, and I spent
(13:51):
a lot of time with family, Like my sister came
down with the new baby. Spent some time with her.
She's actually still at my house right now. And uh,
it was just nice. It was relaxed. I went out
with my girlfriend a couple of days. It was just
a nice Sometimes you need to stay put and do
the things that you don't get to do when you work.
I have one of those coming up next vacation. I'm
staying in town. Well, I have to have to go
(14:12):
to Miami for two days and I'm coming back. I'm
staying here. I'm gonna be a New Yorker, you know,
because when we have vacations, I always get on a
plane and get out of town. I don't know what
it's like to be living in New York and actually
being able to have coffee past seven pm. You know,
when you do a morning when you do a morning show,
you don't drink coffee past seven Oh no, I'm gonna
do that that week. I'm gonna throw caution to the wind.
(14:32):
I even went to This was the other thing that
I found very cool. I went to breakfast with my husband,
which doesn't happen usually because here, but I took my
kids to school every day I got up. It was amazing.
I got up, I made them breakfast, and I took
them to school and dropped them off. And to me,
that was worth the whole weekend itself, because it was
just wonderful, scary ten seconds. Where did you go on vacation?
I went to Miami Suff's Food and Wine Pestle, and
(14:52):
then went to Can't Go at the Grand Palace and
Bay Palace and it was awesome. A great time minute
morning show
