Speaker 1 (00:01):
Today's Daily Highlight from Elvis Duran in the Morning Show.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Oh, you have relationships with friends, family members, whatever, and
you go out to dinner with them, or you hang
out with them on weekend, or go out to the bar, whatever,
and you can't really put your finger on why. Some
of these people you hang out with make you feel
really great. Some of these people you hang out with
you feel exhausted after a little while with them, and
(00:25):
you try to, you know, make your exit, and you
really can't figure out what it is. You can't define
what it is that either attracts you to these people
and wanting to spend more time with them, or wondering
why they repel you in some way repel I guess
it's what I'm time of thinking of for sure. So
these are the energy givers and the energy takers. Yes,
this is what they are, right, you have that article
(00:47):
you were talking about. I'm going to go over this
because it applies to all of us.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, So when it comes to people, there are really
simple things that they say make energy givers versus energy takers,
and it's characteristic. So they're positive, encouraging, solution oriented. I
think that's a big one for all of us. We
see people who just complain all the time, right without
offering up how they would like something to be different
or what their input is on making it be better.
(01:13):
They tend to be good listeners. They're supportive of other
people's achievements. That stuff's really good. As far as characteristics
of the energy giver impact, They inspire people, They lift
people up, They make people feel motivated and energized. You
know who I think is really good at that are Andrew.
I think he's a very good person when it comes
to making you feel motivated.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Oh yeah, well, I think that's interesting concerning you bully
him all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
It doesn't mean he's not a monster. He's an uplifting monster.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Okay, so we're actually talking about energy givers and takers
as far as people go. Now, you in your own
mind have a series of attributes or negatives that are
energy givers and takers right in your own brain. You
can deplete your own energy in your own mind. You
can create energy for yourself.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Yes, right, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
And this list is overwhelmingly accurate. I think I'm looking
at the list you sent me. The energy takers versus
the versus the energy givers within your own sphere, within
your own mind.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Hit that one, okay.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
So that one has to do with focusing on the past.
Apparently if you focus on if you are too focused
on the past, that's just going to suck your energy.
There's nothing you can do about it. You can't change
what's already happened. Move on. An energy giver, though, in
that capacity, would be focusing on your future and goals
and success, things that you want to do with your
life at the moment. Also interests or a lack of sleep,
(02:41):
inconsistent sleep. They say it's just going to suck your
energy right away. I think all of us live with
that one. Yeah, all the time, mess and clutter, an
energy taker, clean up a little bit, organize your space.
You'll feel better. I think that's so true. I've done
that before. Sedentary time, when you're just sitting around, you
can be doing so much other stuff instead of just
(03:03):
sitting and watching TV or just sitting in general. I
even want to, yes, absolutely, when we're when we're in here,
I think you guys, well, actually you might not notice
because I'm short, but I stand up a lot because
sitting actually just sucks the life out of me. And
I don't like to do it social media and energy sucker.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
I just realized something.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I had an energy sucker this this weekend, I could
have gotten out of my head and that was all
the crap that's going on with, you know, the travel
delays at Newark Airport.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Why am I.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Spending time on my vacation fun weekend thinking about travel
and all that stuff that was sucking energy away from me.
I needed to spend more time in the present and
thinking about solutions because that would be more energy giving
in my own mind.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Is that come of course?
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Yeah, that's one way of looking at it.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
PLU.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I mean, look, you know there's always a workaround for
anything that can stand in your way, like travel problems.
The workaround is, well, travel problems are in when you travel,
there's always going to be delays. You should always be
prepared for them. And if you know New York Airport
is a piece of crap, don't go to Newark Airport.
There's another work around right there.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, absolutely, And you know, bring work with you to
do now that you know that this is going to
possibly happen. If you're stuck somewhere, you can still be
productive instead of just hating everything that's happening social media
in general. We said, is a sucker, overworking, a life sucker. Dehydration.
I think that's a huge one. People don't pay attention
(04:29):
to it enough. For the most part. When someone tells
me they are not feeling good, my first question is
did you drink water? Which is probably so annoying, but
I think it makes such a difference when you hydrate
your body.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
That does true.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
I was reading something about this elvis, and it's because
the essential parts of your body, like your intestinal system.
It's sucking the water and the moisture from your brain
and other parts of your body and your your circulatory
system to keep that going. So wow, if you're feeling tired,
drink a glass of water.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
It's not that hard people.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
So my colon is an energy sucking, Yes, it is sucking. Okay,
well defined, Look look at this list. Negativity sucks your energy,
junk food. Of course we all know that, absolutely. I
can see how there's a connection there. Watching the news,
okay a big one. Well no, but you know what,
(05:23):
it's okay to be informed with what's going on in
the world. We need to be, but to sit there
and watch it repeat itself over and over as Network
News does tend to do. Alcohol. Yes, stress, yes, fear.
So I'm looking at this this list. Only one thing
on this list is not in my life and taking
my energy. Everything else is overworking.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
That's great.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Well, a lot of people do overwork. A lot of
people cannot turn work off. They bring work home and
that sucks your energy.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Right, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yes, Now let's look at the energy givers. So this
is the list you need to be focusing on. These
are the things you need to dive into a little more.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Go ahead, take that list.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
This is great music, without a doubt. I love it.
I mean even when you're at the gym, doesn't the
music make the biggest difference.
Speaker 6 (06:11):
In the world?
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Absolutely or just whatever? It is? Music the soundtrack of
your life is It changes everything in one direction or
the other. Nature, we love it. Touch grass, It's important.
You actually need to get out there and be around trees.
You know, in Japan they actually prescribe a therapy called
borest therapy where they just send people into the woods
to hang out in the woods for a little while.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Yeah, it makes a big difference. Rest, du we all
suck at that one. Yeah, we need to get more rest.
Sunlight so important. We all need that vitamin D. Frog
is gonna insert a joke, I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Positivity inserting the D a.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Positivity and gratitude so important. I know we say it
all the time, but if you just think at the
end of the day about the three things that you
were happy about in that day and actually focus on
it for a second, it will rewire your brain. They say,
the more you practice gratitude, the happier you become.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
We got a troubling text though.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
This person wrote, my boyfriend is an energy sucker, but
I love him anyway.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
And that's okay. I know, But how do you change
the suck to a give.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Well, you can't really change people that much, but you
have to learn what to ignore and just move to
the side. I know I'm not speaking from my current relationship,
but in past relationships, if they get into a habit
of doing things I find to be a little negative,
I just kind of walk around it, you know, because
I find that every time I try to confront it,
(07:35):
it starts an argument.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, in same with me. I'm sure it's the same
with me as well.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
It's tough. I always think about in White Lotus. The
relationship between Rick and Chelsea. That was wild because one
was such an energy sucker and the other was such
an energy giver and she just loved him so much.
It was tough, but you know, I won't run how
that worked out?
Speaker 1 (07:53):
All right.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Meditation very important. We've talked about this one hundred times.
Center yourself, think about peace, Try to think about nothing
is actually the height of meditation. Movement, get up and
move around, exercise, it's great. Breathing makes a difference in
everything that you do when you're stressed or anxious. If
you take a second to unclench your jaw and take
a deep breath, you'll feel instant gratification.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
You know what that clenching of the jaw thing is.
I don't know about you. For me, it's a big thing.
I can be sitting here going the day is this?
Speaker 4 (08:25):
The day is that?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
And I feel my face clench up and you feel
your jaw clenching, and you're grinding your teeth.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Absolutely, you know I do that all the time.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
It's it's such a it's it's like your uh, your fuelmometer,
fuel meter on your car, your fuel what they call
those things. Your fuelometer, fuel gauge, that's your fuel gauge.
You know how stressed you are just by feeling the
intensity in your jaw, Isn't that funny?
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Absolutely it's but it all goes together. And if you
ever just stop and take a really deep breath, because
we breathe obviously unconsciously, but you're not taking a deep,
deep breath. Those deep breaths make a huge difference and
they help to reset you. Also, a sense of community,
being around friends, loved ones, maybe even coworkers who make
you laugh is very important. Decluttering, which is obviously the
(09:09):
opposite of having a messy workspace. Consistent sleep super important.
Eating whole foods, real foods, not the process crap and
sugar that we are all just shoving down our pie
holes every day. And then learning something new incredibly important.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Wow, look at that, I've got Lisa online one Lisa
says her boss is an energy sucker. But you know what,
that's your boss, to Lisa. You are paid to go
in there and deal with that boss and listen to
instruction from that boss every single day and guidance as well, right,
so you have.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
No choice to go Hello lady, Happy Thursday.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Eve Oh yeah, well, thank you.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
It's very important day for us tomorrow. I know that.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
So you try hard each day to not let your
boss get to you.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
You try everything.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
I've been listening to the let them by Mel Robbins
every morning on my way to work to try to
not let it get to me. Every day is like
a different drama. Every single day. Something has happened that
ruins her day, and she tries to ruin everyone else's day.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
No, no, that's the worst.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Get a new job, everything, And then you try to
do your job, and then it's like, well, how can
you focus on this one? This is going on?
Speaker 2 (10:22):
No, No, hold on, back up for a second, Nate.
It's not as easy. It's just good or new job.
And you sit back satisfied with your answer for her.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
I guess what I'm saying is sometimes you have to
extricate yourself from that situation, or like you were saying,
just let them and ignore it. There's nothing you can do.
Go about your life and focus on the things you
can't control. You can't control her, Just focus on you.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
So is Mel Robins exactly love her?
Speaker 2 (10:47):
That is that helping you a little bit? Or is
it just a temporary bend aid fix or what is that?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
No? Helping in every aspect of my life. It's magical.
This is not a plug.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Okay, thank you for the Okay, we're about to send
you an invoice, but now we won't. But no, we
love Meil Robins. You know we had her on the show.
And that book they're saying it is on track to
be one of the most successful published books of all
time and for real, for good reason, and Lisa is
one of the examples. So what what are a few
takeaways from mel Robbins and that listen you have in
(11:17):
the car every day that's helping you navigate through your
job with this this energy sucking boss of yours.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
You could say that again. Thank you, guys, just needed
to get that out sometimes.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
What have a good run?
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Well, she's hanging up on herself, okay, okay, okay, thanks,
it takes Lisa, I'm missing in on something. Okay, okay, okay, okay,
Well what happened there?
Speaker 4 (11:43):
I don't think you question?
Speaker 6 (11:45):
Somehow or maybe she realized the fun was being sucked
out of her life being on the phone with us,
and she had to get into that.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Are we a bunch of fun suckers are one of
the problems. She dropped herself up.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Oh my god, well, I was kind of curious to
know what it was exactly. Maybe if memory served what
her favorite Mel Robbin's idea was that made her think
more clearly about navigating through her job.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
I don't know. Maybe I don't know, so we'll never know.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
It will be she's got that secret to herself, and
you know what, we have to let her.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Yeah, and we will let her.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Fine, do it fine?
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Anyway.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I love this list that you brought in from this article. Music, nature, resting, sunlight, positivity, gratitude, hydration, meditation, movement,
breath work, community, decluttering, consistent sleep, eating whole foods, learning
something new. I know you hear these things every day
in life like people the experts quote unquote giving you
(12:43):
ideas and advice on how to live a better life.
But at the end of the day, if you look
down that list, it all makes sense, does it not.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
Without a doubt.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
And when it comes to community, I think going out
and doing service for other people, actual charity work and
volunteer work is so fulfilled for your soul. You don't
even have to talk about it, just go do it.
And I was thinking about maybe we need to get
back into the God's love we deliver kitchen again, and
I would love to do that because it's about that time.
And that was awesome.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
All right, Well, let's focus on this list, on this list,
can we can we publish this? Can we give you
the credit where credit is due, wherever you got that
and uh, we'll get that up at Elvis Duran show
on Instagram as fast as off
