Speaker 1 (00:00):
Live from the Mercedes Benz Interview Lounge. Okay, don't get mad.
What'd you do? There was a there was a there
was a time where this incredible band was on our show.
A lot came in and did their thing, and they
all went their separate ways, and they're all superstars. The
only one I like is Nil Horn. Nile Horn is

(00:21):
I don't like the other one. I don't. I mean
for different reasons. Okay, no, they're okay, Nile Horn my
my only one. My one of my favorite is are
you trying to figure your Yeah, it's a new studio.
Nate's like playing with your crunch, a new studio. We
don't know what we're doing either. Half the stuff doesn't work. Hello,
good morning. Oh well, our time is up. All right,

(00:42):
see letter. Thank you for for coming in to see us.
This is great. I love your new place. It's nice. Right,
it's nice, Golden Mike came yea, it's all here. Um.
But when we the other day, you know, I heart
will tell us. You know there's a new single out
and we haven't agree, and we got to play it
at the top of the hour or six am on Friday.

(01:03):
I'm like, okay, well, who is it Nile Horn? Okay,
and so everyone said you want to listen to it
before you play it? I mean, no, let's just play it, thinking,
oh god, I hope this is not gonna have to
lie in. You know. We pushed, we pushed the button
and it wasn't even a needed to listen to it.
Three time song. It was like riot right there. Heaven

(01:24):
sounds so good. Thank you. I'm glad you feel that way.
Even Gondhi likes it. She doesn't like anything. I usually
hate everything, but I love it. Thank you very much.
I'm glad it sounds too back and well, it's good
to have you here. And uh, I know the album, Uh,
the show is it's when's that coming out? That comes
out June ninth, June ninth, I know, campaigns and all

(01:47):
that stuff. Why is that? Why can you just get
recording an album and go here, take it. That's the
way it used to be. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you remember
you remember, not that long ago. Yes, it used to be.
Just so here's the album. It comes out next week.
Ms changed. There's a lot more teasing going on these days.
Yeah yeah, yeah, here's what I have a question about teasing.
So a lot of fans are like, oh, he's hiding stuff.

(02:08):
It's all cryptic because he's going to do us a
song with Harry, or he's going to do this and that,
Like do you do things like that? No, there's a
lot of like it's very easy to make up something,
isn't it, like as you know, and then it go
make big news or whatever. But now there's no there's
no cryptic stuff. I just have an album coming out. Wow,
you know what we're it's all pretty it's pretty simple. So,

(02:31):
you know. One of the good things great things about
this studio because I still live downtown, so I drive
up Sixth Avenue every morning and go right past Radio
City Musical and they give you on the marquee upcoming concerts.
Lewis Capaldi right there, he's gonna be here in April,
I think, right and right out there's a picture of
you and Lewis on stage performing. I'll show you that
in a minute. Oh beautiful, remember that, do you guys?
You guys still talk to each other? He said, yeah, yeah, yeah,

(02:54):
we're very close. The funniest man I've ever met. Money
is so funny. I've actually watched his interview here. It
was a Carocrash, Yeah, it was it reckless pretty much.
So so back to the song of Heaven. Yeah, Like
the story is it was one am. You were at
some retreat in Joshua Tree, California, and you wrote that song.

(03:15):
So obviously you were stoned on mushrooms for something, because
that's what Joshua Tree. And by the way, that maybe
not how it happened, just give some context here, but
as a writer, yeah, like what is it? Is there
any way to explain to us, Like what kicks in?
Like it's one am and i'd and you get a

(03:37):
pan on a piece of paper or you get your
phone out and you create a song like why one
am in Joshua Tree that night? I don't know, to
be honest, I still can never put my finger on
what it is. But it does seem like the the
like the better songs are like so obvious in your face,
like we were walking around going for days, right, and

(03:59):
then it's like, but what is that? And then it's
just someone plays a couple of chords and you're like,
that's what it is, and then it just it's like
I thought I was going to bed, to be honest,
do you ever wake up like from you know, sleeping
and go that's it and write it down. Yeah, oh
I've done that. I've like dreamt things and like dreamt
verses and stuff like that. I could never write songs
about this, the stuff I'd dream about that. But no,

(04:24):
but it's just maybe you maybe you actually gave the
answer is maybe it's best you not know why the
creative process pops out one because it would ruin every
song that I've ever written, and I would never write
a good one ever. Again. Let did the pandemic change
the writing process for you? Yeah? Big time. Actually, less

(04:44):
like big studio stuff. It was more back to what
I think I'm decent that, which is picking up an
acoustic guitar or sitting at a piano and writing from there.
Because I was meant to go on tour with Lewis
and then the tour got canceled. So right before the pandemic,
all of my stuff was like locked away ready to
go on tour, and then I couldn't get it back
when the tour when the pandemic started, so it was

(05:05):
just me and the piano and yeah, definitely it definitely
changed well way right now, speaking of the pandemic, you
know this is kind of a famous story here at
ZE one hundred in New York and on our show
is we had a plan. You were going to be
our guest on Saint Patrick's debts, right, and we were
all going to do it. That's one hell of a plan.

(05:26):
I don't know how genius that one. I don't get
the Irish pop starts to come in, and I know,
I know it was brilliant, right, No one ever would
have thought that but us, And we were going to
do the show with you and then march over to
Walkers and have some you know, Irish fair or whatever.
And of course, like the day before, covid no no,

(05:48):
so we're the first cancelation guest. Yeah, he kicked it off.
I had all sorts of plans for the whole week
because that was the week my album was coming out.
And then then I was at home make bread, Irish
soda bread. I didn't attempt that. Let's be obvious. Nile

(06:09):
Horn is here the new single Heaven. We're gonna play
it in a few minutes and it really, truly is
a beautiful piece of work art and the album not
out until like twenty twenty seven. The album's coming out,
you said, in June June nine. Oh god, pretty order it. Thanks.
But so, here's an interesting thing about writing an album. Yeah,
especially when you're true to yourself and exposing your life

(06:33):
in your work. Is it really is? It's a diary
of where you are at that time in your life.
So this album, you started writing this album? How long ago?
I wrote the first song in August twenty twenty and
then took a break for a little bit and impact
to it. Well, so you listen to this, to the
to the album now or what's produced already? Do you

(06:56):
say to yourself, Okay, well that was that was then.
That's kind of rear view mirrors. I think if we
hadn't have sat still for a year and a half, basically,
I think I would probably think that. But because it
was time was stud still and we were just doing
the same thing all the time. I feel the same
about the songs now as I did then. So if
you wrote an album right here, right now about your

(07:17):
life and how you feel about driving down the highway
on your journey, like, what would today's album be for you?
I mean, how would you describe your life in your
album if it was written today? Very happy? Yeah, I
think that's probably the difference is is the previous two
were based on heartbreak, right, and they're very like As
a singer songwriter, you pick up a guitar, you pick

(07:39):
a scenario, and you write every single detail, like the
color of the chair, her jacket was that color, or
you know that kind of thing, and very detailed lovey
dovey stuff, you know, heartbreaking things. But this is this
I found since I wrote my last album, that everything
is just a bit bigger, like the thoughts are bigger,
probably because we lived in here twenty or seven from

(08:00):
our heads for a year or that time at Joshua Tree.
Come on now, please, if memory serves so, I'm gonna
make an assumption about you, nil You don't you seem
like me in many ways. You don't seem like the
five year ten year planning guy where I need a plan.
You you were on your journey and just follow the
signs and that's how you. Is that why you're happy now?

(08:22):
Because yeah, things are things are good. You're honest with you. Yeah, exactly.
I think I'm I think probably because I've been doing
what I've done for so long and there's probably a
late maturity to a lot of life. Maybe, you know,
I've probably found a lot more of it in the
last three or four years, realizing what, you know, we
should be grateful for what we have and all that

(08:43):
kind of thing. Um, yeah, I suppose that's I've never
been one of those people that like looks too far
behind or forward, just you know, for the want of
a better phrase, you know, like living the moment. I
don't really want to be saying that all the time.
And we're Nile's moment. We're right now. Yeah. Sorry, this
business is going to get them so so happiness you

(09:07):
feel good about life caught him? How come we all
try to do that? Yeah, you know, I don't know.
So what's it all about now? I mean, are you
gearing up to go on the road and do all
of that stuff? Do you look forward to doing that?
I haven't toured since twenty eighteen? Holy crap. Really, I
know when I think about it's scary because I was
meant to do the tour in twenty twenty and that

(09:29):
got canceled, so that wouldn't have been so bad. But
I feel like the reaction to heaven M so far
from the fans has just been weeping waiting for you
so get on the road. So you really haven't had
a true performance since twenty eighteen. I did. I did
one of those live stream gigs from the Royal Albert
Hole to an empty Royal Albert Hole. I'm a during

(09:50):
lockdown in November of that first year, and that was
the only thing I've done. So I know everyone's like, huh,
but I would yeah, I can't wait. Did you get
of it at all? Yeah? I got yeah, you want
it right now? This never changes as it I've been
coming here since eleven, it's gotten worse. This plays back

(10:17):
to your staying on your journey and not wait till
you're my age, you can say whatever that you want.
You'll be this old. You'll be a crazy old man.
I would ask the non musical question about your skincare,
because honestly, a lot of guys don't take care of
their snow and your skin is absolutely And he's out
in the sun playing golf all the time. So how's

(10:37):
it so perfect doing it's fan? I didn't even know
he was here. Listen, man, we still got to get
on and play golf. At some point. We gotta put
our tailor made clubs together and playing golf. That our
clubs together. Wow, I may drive the cart. I shouldn't

(10:59):
answer the face question. I've definitely been working hard. I
might have a couple of Yeah, I definitely look like
i've no but yeah, I'm big into it. I got
into it a few years ago. I thought, better like
keep the keep the baby face, because everyone will say
you get such a baby faces that better keep that. Yeah,
you don't want this whole lizard say? Do you get
facials and stuff like that every now and then? Yeah? Yeah,

(11:21):
But I'm just I'm big into the old face masks.
I masks all the bits and paces the cucumbers on
the eyes. You don't want this lizard face. Don't want
to You'll be old lizard face one day. Okay, So
everybody in here does an impression of somebody, and I
read that you have a really really good Blake Shelton impression,
which is random. That's very random. Yeah, I'm working on

(11:44):
the voice with him. Yeah, that makes more. It likes
a lot of sense. That's so, where have you been
living under a rug? Guys, voices happening next week. We
do live under a rocky most most lizards do, so,
Blake Shelton. It is random. Kney. Blake Shelton. You know,
I'm married to Gwen Stefani and it's my last season

(12:07):
on the Voice, my last season. Wait, and I'm back
to the ranch in Oklahoma and never see me again.
He's such a sweetheart, Froggy. Aren't you gonna go see
Blake Shelton tomorrow? I am. We're seeing Blake Shelton. He's
here in Jacksonville tomorrow night. So I'm act I'll have
to have to ask him about your in person. Okay,

(12:31):
So back to this performance thing, So you really haven't
performed since twenty eighteen. I got a wacky idea, you
know me, I'm just gonna asks this. We're flying to Majorca,
Spain in April. Yeah, and a lot of listeners are
coming to and they can actually go online and buy rooms.

(12:54):

like all of your European fans. If you showed up
in my arca, I will buy you a shot of
tequila and tree, and if you perform, if you actually
perform a song or two, I'll buy another shot. What

(13:14):

you may the date. Give me a date, tell me
a day and tell you where I am. You just
have an empty schedule. I'm not a horrid I have
no life, beautiful, Why are you yelling at me? What?

(13:38):
all right, you should you talk to someone, Just a
couple of shots of tequila. A beautiful, beautiful island. It's
it's also in in Uh it's near Abitha. Yeah, you
guys would say Abiza. I say a Bitha. Of course
I do. Cultured. I took a pill there. Actually, I
spent my honeymoon in my Arca and I didn't want

(14:00):
to leave. Yeah, I'll come where we're going? Why don't
we going? Yeah, somewhere in the you have no you

Iberia Star Resort. We're all gonna be there, private parties,
adventures and now officially announced Nile Horn for all right?
How they have to play for? Is it like four

Duran's European Vacation dot Com, book your trip four nights,

James Gordon and you did oh yeah, did you see
the Pirate Musical? So what what a pirate musical? Yeah?
It was basically started out as myself and James capturing

(16:40):
um some naval officer, and then it became very flamboyant.
It was very angry, and then it got very glitzy
and glammy. Yeah, we may have to do that in

(17:05):
