Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hey guys, and welcome to Tommy Talk. Today's topic is
how to practice self care during the holiday season, and
I have a very special guest to help me unpack this.
He is a brilliant actor and entrepreneur who brings so
much joy throughout his work, and he is starring in
the upcoming Hallmark Christmas film. She's making a list with
Lacy Shaver, another friend to the show. So please welcome

(00:25):
mister Andrew Walker to today's Tommy Talk.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
How are you, my man, I'm great, man. Thank you
so much for having me. Hello everybody.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Ah, I'm psyched to have you. There's no one better
to talk about self care during the holiday season than
with you, because I know it's very important to you,
and I know we're getting into the thick of it
now where people are running around and yes, enjoying the
magic of the season, but with that can come maybe
some neglect for ourselves, right, So I wanted to bring
you on and hear how you practice self care?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Well, man, Look, the holidays are busy for everybody, right
and uh, I'm I'm a parent, and uh it's it's
a lot busier now when I thought it was busy
when I was younger. It's a lot busier now with kids,
so you know, it's keeping your immune systems strong, I
think is number one. And with that is sleep. I

(01:17):
think you really have to prioritize your sleep and it's
very difficult over the holidays because you're pulled in so
many different directions. And you know, I won't bore people
with with with you can listen to podcasts specifically about sleep.
And I'm no sleep expert, but I do know that
looking at my phone before I go to sleep at
night is going to affect my sleep. I know the

(01:38):
keeping my phone in the same room when I go
to sleep at night is going to affect my sleep.
And I need to I need a wind down process.
And I just know that about myself. I need to
make myself a nice cup of tea and I try
to read read a book now, which puts me to
sleep pretty quickly. But sleep hygiene, meaning your environment that

(02:01):
you sleep in and just going to bed at a
certain time, I think is so important during the holidays.
So that's that's one. I love that.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
First of all, I'm gonna jump in and then say
that I try to be as disciplined with my sleep
as possible. It's not always easy, but I feel you
and I can't bring my best self to anything I
do if I don't feel like i'm rested. So you know,
no one's perfect. We all strive for the best sleep
we can get.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
But I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I think remembering to take time and allow ourselves that
period of regenerating our bodies, so to speak, is so incredibly,
so incredibly crucial.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Absolutely, Yeah. And it's it's you know, it's when your
your muscles repair, it's when you know, and I'm pretty
I'm pretty active, and it's like clockwork. I do exercise,
but we'll get to that after because that's one of
my one of one of it's on my list as well.
But yeah, sleep is there's so many important factors to
having a good night's sleep. Yeah. I love Second is

(03:02):
hydrate simple, you know, I think you got to hydrate
throughout through You have to hydrate all the time. I
like to do hot water and lemon in the morning
with my wife and I we do hot water and lemon.
That's an easy way to kind of get your get
your digestive system going hydrate. You know, you get the
most hydration when you wake up in the morning. The

(03:24):
first bit of of of liquid you put in your body,
that's how you your your body retains that the most.
So we try to get that hot water and lemon
in the morning, and obviously drink a little bit of
water throughout the day. We try to drink at least
I bring my my big we call it our social

(03:44):
anxiety water bottles, and so I have that with me
everywhere I go, and I'm drinking at least two to
three bottles of water with some with some electrolytes in there,
a little bit of amino acids sometimes, but really electrolytes,
or you can put apple cider vinegar in there too
to regulate pH I just put a little tablespoon of

(04:06):
apple sided vinegar in my water. And you know, I don't.
I don't love drinking just straight water. And there's more
studies now saying that it's actually better to drink water
with some electrolytes. But you don't. You don't want to
overdo anything either. So hydrate is number two on my list.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
That's a good one. That's a really good one. I
think hydration sleep check check. I'm all about it. I'm
gonna throw one in the mix now.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Too.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, I think during the holidays it's important for self
care to practice setting emotional boundaries. And what I mean
by that is our minds are so important, and we
tend to neglect them. You know, we think sometimes of
the exterior and you know, the internal body, but the
mind is so important. And sometimes we're around family or
friends who have different views or different perspectives, and it's

(04:52):
okay to not engage with things that don't fill your copper,
make you feel good, or make you feel like your
voice is being heard. It's okay to just step back
and say, you know what, I don't want to talk
about that today. Let's talk about something else, or how
about that game, or switch the topic. So I think
that for me also is kind of a little bit
of the mental health piece in protecting your mind and
your pieces. You don't always have to you don't always
have to have your emotional you know, bandwidth out there

(05:17):
for everyone to access that all the time.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Absolutely, you beat me to it. That's number four of
my list. So we'll talk about that now. But and
it's not exactly that, but it's it's do things that
bring you joy. Because the holidays are a very heavy
time for so many people, and honestly, you know, there's
so much emphasis on Christmas and having it be the

(05:40):
most special time of the year, but it is just
another day, to be honest, and it happens and it
goes by in a flash, and I love the magic
of Christmas. You know, this year, we with our kids
were like, guys, you know you live a pretty blessed life.
We're really not going to put the emphasis on toys
this year. We're gonna put the emphasis on experiences. So

(06:01):
we're gonna bring our kids places, and we're gonna do
things that really bring all of us joy. And there
was a study. My wife brought it up to me.
She's like, when you ask later on in life, when
you ask adults what they remember about their what's the toy?
Or do you ask teenagers what's that toy? What's that
thing that you got back when you were younger, you
don't really remember it. What you do remember is that

(06:24):
Christmas that we spent in that cabin all together for
four days and we were just family, drinking hot chocolate.
Nobody got any gifts. We just watched movies together and
we were together. So I think you need to find
that time with your family and do things that bring
you joy. And that's for me, that's spending time with
my family. M M. I love that.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
And you're absolutely right. It's like put the devices down,
go make an experience.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Build a memory. Will puzzle, yes, yes, yeah, we do.
We get a holiday puzzle every single year and it's
the best. We bring the whole family around the table
and we sit there and it's you know, you unplug,
there's no devices, and so puzzles. Puzzles have been great
for us, some old fashioned fun. I love it. What
else do you have for me? So the next one

(07:11):
is move your body, exercise, get us sweat in, you know,
do something you can get in. I do Peloton I
do you can do a five minute class or you
can do a forty five minute class. I do the
Peloton Strength and Conditioning app. I will just and it's
you need need some some dumbbells, You need a you know,
a ten foot by four foot space and you know,

(07:31):
maybe eight feet and you can you can just do
your your jumping jacks, your deep squats, and Peloton will
bring you through the whole, you know, the whole exercise routine.
And if you don't have a peloton will just do
just move your body, stretch, go for a walk. And
I think that's an incredible piece to keeping your mental
health in check as well over the holidays.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Especially because we tend to maybe eat different things than
we usually eat and extend our social lives a little
bit further than we usually do. So that just is
something for you. And like you said, it doesn't have
to be an hour and a half, it can be
whatever you can do.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Just move, just move, just move exactly. Yeah. And last,
but not least, is your skin health. Because you're outside,
you're in the sun, it's cold. I ski a lot,
so I like to protect my skin. And with that,
most people that are maybe or hopefully more people know

(08:27):
now that I have a skincare line. And because the
holidays are so busy, this is this is truly it's
the perfect fit for anybody over the holidays and outside
of the holidays, but it's our skincare line is built
for busy people. So we have this exfoliating pad skin
Mason exfoliating pad. So this I don't like washing my face,

(08:49):
but for those of you that like washing your face,
we just launched this biogenic foaming cleanser so this is
a little more mild if you don't want that deep exfoliating.
And then we there's serum. We have a moisturizer right here,
and then we also have an I cream. Literally this
this routine takes you a minute or less to do,

(09:13):
and I do it before bed every single night. When
I lived in LA and I did these exfoliating pads
on my skin, I would wipe my skin off and
I would look at my pad. I could see all
the grime from my day. It was disgusting. Somebody living
in New York City would also see the same results.
But skincare super easy's It protects your skin, it makes

(09:36):
you feel rejuvenated, and it's also a little bit of
you know, you want to it's your self care moment
at the end of your day. You know, you want
to feel clean before you get in your bed, open
that book and get ready for your You know that
that night's sleep, that's that's going to be coming up. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
I love that well, A, I love that you launched
a skincare line, and b I love that that's part
of your self care routine because listen, my dude, we
need it too. And I hope all my ladies. I
know you're probably really good with it. I have a
lot of guy friends who aren't always so great with it,
And I think it's it's not just good for your skin,
but it also is like the ritual makes me feel
really calm and peaceful. But I've been sitting here putting

(10:13):
on I have the line in front of me for
everybody listening, and I've been putting on the moisturizer around
my hand because it smells so incredibly good and I
need to know what is in this. But it's not
like florally or overpowering. No, it's not what is that
that smells so good?

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Well, we don't. It's it's all unscented stuff.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
We sandal wood.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
It feels, yeah, it's it's like a little people say
it feels like a It's like almost like forest. It
feels like you're in nature or something like that, you know,
But it's it's unscented. But there is a little bit
of I don't know if it's I don't know what
the what that scent is. But we we've we specifically

(10:54):
didn't want to scent our products. We wanted it to
be very easy for everybody. And I think like sense
it can be too potent or just not a smell
that people like. But what I do, what I can
tell you is that this is really a three to
one bioactive cream. It's not even really it shouldn't be
titled moisturizer. We put moisturizer because that's just the term

(11:18):
that most people know. We got pospholipids in here, We
have collagen boosting agents. My partner is a heart and
lung surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital. Here, he was an
MIT lab guy. We also have doctor Gene Carrothers, who
is the founder of Botox on our team. So we

(11:38):
put our products through rigorous testing before and no animal
testing as well. But yeah, this is all of our
products are cutting edge, and we also wanted to come
out with We wanted to have to be accessible and
affordable to people. So these products are the most affordable
for what you're going to get in a bottle.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Yeah, and you feel it, You feel luxurious using them
at a great price point. So I love that this
is something that you're branching out and doing, and I
love that it's part of the self care routine and
a reminder for everyone to go to your skin and
practice you know, a really good ritual for taking care
of your skin. If people want to check out skin Mason,
how do they check it out.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
We have a great Black Friday discount happening right now.
So it's www dot skin Mason dot com and there's
thirty percent off all products site wide, and up to
fifty percent off all products if you get a subscription.
If you sign up for a subscription right now so
you can you can find all the products there. And

(12:41):
were We just launched a stalking Stuffer, which is just
mini formats of all the same stuff that we that
I just showed you there, which is there are mini moisturizer, serum,
and the foaming cleanser, and these are going to be
available online next week. And I have a booth at
this Hallmark Christmas Experience in Kansas City coming up, and

(13:04):
we're selling these stalking Stuffers there, so you can come
over say hi, I'm going to be there for a
couple hours each day, an hour and a half or
so to two hours each day. I'll sign your bags,
I'll sign your stalking stuffers, and I'd love to chat
with people who have already purchased or who are on
the fence and have some questions come over ask me
and be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Well, I love it, and congrats to you. It's not
easy to get a brand up and off and you
know running, so it's really cool you're doing this on
top of everything else you're doing. By the way, and
I love hearing about your self care tips. I think
for me, the through line on everything is kind of
make time for yourself, Like, just make time for yourself.
It doesn't it doesn't always feel like it's the easiest

(13:47):
thing to do, especially as a parent as you know,
and working and running around all the different things you
have to do. But whether it's in the gym, whether
it's in your skincare, whether it's sleep like, you got
to set a side time to properly take care of yourself.
So I think this is hopefully a good reminder for
everybody as we enter the craziness of the holiday season
to do just that. And before I let you go,

(14:08):
you do have a Christmas movie coming out, so what
is it about?

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Tell me? Yeah, yeah, well I appreciate you saying that.
Tell me, and you know, I love what you're doing
here on your podcast too. I watched a few of
your episodes and it's awesome. This movie, coming out in
December sixth, is with someone people may know, Lacy Shabert.
She's the Queen of Christmas and her and I got together,

(14:34):
partnered up. We did a movie many years ago, seven
years ago for Valentine's Day, and so we partnered up
again for Christmas this time, and the movie is called
She's Making a List. Lacey Shabert is an incredible concept.
It's a hot it's like a high high, high concept
kind of idea for Hallmark. She plays an auditor for

(14:57):
the Naughty or Nice list for Santa Claus, and she
goes under cover and follows kids who may be on
the verge of making the naughty list. Just in case
they are, they can sway the decision in the final hours,
and she's the one that kind of makes these decisions.

(15:17):
And I play a single dad with a daughter who
had gone through a tragic thing in her life. She
lost her mom a year before the holidays of the
previous year. And the movie's message is amazing because there's
no naughty kids out there. It's just circumstances that kids
go through that can make them act out in certain ways,

(15:39):
and Lacey's amazing in this movie. I've never seen her
do a role like this. She's she's putting on all
these different disguises and playing these different characters. And yeah,
so the movies. It's It airs December sixth, seven eighth,
seven eighth Central on Homemark Channel, next day on Hallmark Plus.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
All right, we look forward to the man, Andrew. Thank
you for sharing your wisdom and your tips to help
us all better ourselves as holiday season. Congrats on skin
Mason and the movie. And I look forward to just
continuing to watch you Rocket.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Thanks man, appreciate you. I you listening to your podcast

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
