Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey guys, welcome to Tommy Talk. Today's topic is a
fun one. I hope you are wearing your best chunky
cardigan or oversized sweater and you're curling up with a
hot cup of coffee with some cinnamon in it, or
a little pumpkin spice, or your best cup of tea
and just getting really comfy on the couch. Because to
(00:23):
many people, it is one of the greatest times of
the year. And on today's Tommy Talk, we're going to
dive into is fall the best season of the year. Ooh,
this could be a controversial one because I know people
get very attached to their seasons, right, So what I
love about the fall is it feels like an unofficial
(00:43):
start to a new year. Yes, I know January first
is the new year, but when you hit the fall,
it's back to school season. And for back to school season,
a lot of parents are shuffling their kids off to
their new grades and this gives them a little bit
of a breather because kids are back in school well,
and I feel like it's a time of year where
you can kind of decide, Okay, what are the things
(01:05):
I want to achieve? What are the things I want
to do. What are my hopes for this year? What
are my dreams for this year? It's kind of a
new year. I mean it's a new beginning, and I
love a new beginning. I am obsessed with a new beginning.
And I know coming off of the summer can be
a bit depressing, and it was a great summer for me.
I love this summer. And I always get what I
call seasonal emotions, and that means I get a little
(01:25):
sad or nostalgic that the season is coming gone and
that it's time for a brand new season. And I
don't mourn the loss of the season, but I definitely
reflect very heavily on what that season brought into my
life and what I enjoyed about it and what I'm
going to miss. In fact, sometimes if Geo and I
(01:46):
are at dinner, I'll be like, Okay, let's play a game.
What were some of your favorite parts about the last
three months or about the last six months or whatever.
He loves when I do these games. No he doesn't,
but he's a good sport and plays along with me,
and I'm just nostalgic. Have you ever seen Inside Out too?
Do you remember the little old Granny call nostalgia. Who
(02:07):
like would pop in and out? That's me. That is
literally who I am. So yes, I always get a
little bummed out when there's a new season, for sure,
but I also get really excited when there's a new
season and Fall, there's I'm an East Coast boy, I'm
from Jersey, baby, I'm used to seasons changing, and I
love the change of seasons. You might be listening from
(02:29):
somewhere where you don't have such drastic seasons, but for me,
I just I connect that with change and with the
new start as well. So I am curious to know
how you kind of connect with change or how you
enjoy having seasons that aren't so drastic in temperature, because
I don't know it. I'm not used to it, and
for me, I really really enjoy it. But aside from that,
(02:51):
I think there's something really magical when you see the
leaves changing on the trees. And again, it's this idea
and concept of growth and rebirth and change and a
new chapter, and that's me is all very very inspiring.
So I love Fall for that reason. I also love
Fall because traditions come back in major ways. They start
(03:13):
to come back. It's the start of what I consider
the pre holiday season into the holiday season through January one.
And there's different traditions, like you take out your Halloween
decorations and you fill them all over your house and
it brings you so much joy. And I take out
my pumpkin mug that I drink my morning macha in,
and I take out my clothes that are for chillier
(03:35):
weather that just make me feel like I'm in the
fall spirit. And you do things like pumpkin patches and
apple farms and cider maybe by a fire, like there's
all these traditional things you do that just make you
feel warm and fuzzy and good inside. And I love tradition.
I love creating tradition. It was very important for me
(03:58):
when Geo and I got together and we got married
to have traditions of our own. And something as silly
as we have a ghost pillow that we put on
our chair and it makes me so happy because it's
like our little ghost pet for the season. Oh my god,
I'm really sharing a lot with you guys. I'm so embarrassed,
but it is. And yes, he has a name. His
name is gusta Ghost, and we bought him a girlfriend
and now we have two ghost pillows. But it's things
(04:20):
like this that just make you feel happy and silly
and good. Life is crazy, man, Like, have fun and
enjoy this stuff. I love the traditions of it all.
I really really do. I think it's so much fun.
I also love the traditions of watching movies this time
of year, or you know the twenty five days of
Halloween on ABC Family or thirty Days of Halloween. Whatever.
It is like there's things that come back that you
(04:40):
look forward to that kind of remind you of being
a kid. And who doesn't like to feel like they're
inner kid once in a while, right, we have to
adult so hard all the time, so if we can
feel that way, I'm all about feeling that way. I
love the colors of fall. I love the Burgundes and
the deep oranges. I have a good deep orange pea coat,
y'all that I'm so excited to bring out. But again,
(05:01):
that's tradition. It's like bringing out the jacket that I
bring out every year, and that jacket travel the world
with me, and it's just memories that you tie to
the stuff that I think is so incredibly special. And
yes it's clothing, but like it reminds you of a
time of year, which is really fun and really cool.
And I don't know, I think there's something to be
said for how special that makes moments feel. We deal
(05:23):
with so much on a regular basis, and stress levels
are so high that if this can make us feel good,
why wouldn't we do it? Right? I do like the
crisp weather. I like wearing a T shirt during the
day and then a jacket at night and bringing out
the dnim again. And I love a fall boot. You guys,
if you know me, I love a fall boot. I
joke with you that I want to be buried with
(05:44):
my fall boots. Although I don't want to be buried.
I want to be cremated. He hates when I talk
about this stuff, But my point is I love a
fall boot, so like to have that again is really
really fun. I'm sure you're looking at fashion that you're like, oh,
I can't wait to dive into that. Football is back
for all my sports fans. Who doesn't love football season
an opportunity to watch the teams that you love and
eat great food and come together. And I like things
(06:06):
that bring people together. And I really appreciate that about
sports and I'm not going to pretend like I'm the
biggest sports watcher in the world, because I'm not. But
I do really like that it creates community, and it
creates memories and creates good food and good vibes with people.
I think that's an important tradition that we need. We
need things that bring us together, and I think that's
(06:27):
such an awesome thing. So it's always fun when the
new season of football starts and who's going to make
it to the super Bowl and who we'll be watching
at fate FaceTime at halftime. I can't believe I just
said FaceTime. That's how excited I am about Fall. I
can't even follow my own thoughts right now. Can you tell?
I really like fall. I also think that knowing the
holidays around the corner is magical. Who doesn't like the holidays?
(06:50):
I mean, so knowing that they're coming and they're approaching,
and you have Halloween, but then you have Thanksgiving and
then you hit Christmas in the New Year's Eve, Like,
I just think it's a really fun, festive time of year.
So the fall season, is it the best season of
the year? Oh my god, I forgot I have to
answer this question. Well, let me think about it. We
have fall, we have winter, we have summer, we have spring.
(07:13):
I'm gonna say, I am going to say, I'm okay,
I'm gonna say this is specific to New York City too,
So well, I shouldn't have caveats in my own question,
So you know what, forget I just said that. I
am going to say fall is the best season of
the year. I said it. Fall is the best season
of the year. Winter, every season is something magical. Winter
(07:36):
I just hate the cold. So I'm like, the first
now fall, I love it. It's gorgeous. Let's do it.
And then after that, I am done. Spring. I feel
like we barely get a spring anymore, at least in
New York City. It goes from like winter to summer
overnight and it's so hot sunnenly, so I don't even
think we have a spring here, so I'm not really
counting that. In summer, I do enjoy it, but I
(07:56):
don't know. Fall for me wins because you still kind
of get some of that summer while you're here and there,
and then it starts getting really crisp and cool. So
fall is the best season of the year. And I'm
sticking by it. I'm standing by it. That is That
is what I'm saying. There is a tradition for the
fall that I feel like we need to revisit, and
(08:18):
that tradition is the pumpkin spice latte. And I'm so sorry.
I don't want to bring any misery to your PSL
sipping days. But guys, I keep it real. You know
that about me. That drink I believe, I think I
read has fifty grams of sugar in it. I don't
know what size and one of the sizes it has
that you can fact check me, you can google that,
(08:41):
but I'm pretty sure it has that much sugar on it.
So what I would love to do is figure out
a pumpkin splice latte that's healthy. And I'm sure there
are recipes out there. So that's one thing I wish
traditionally we can change because I don't think any of
us need to be drinking fifty grams of sugar. I'm
just saying, I love you. I'm not trying to steal
your joy. I am not the grinch. I just got
your back, okay. So just like, maybe we can work
on that tradition for the fall. But otherwise I am
(09:02):
here for it all. And I hope this is a
reminder that you take some time this fall to go
do the things that you love. It goes fast, it
goes fast. So if you want to go to that
great haunted house with the hay ride and the Maize
with your friends, book it. Book it when tickets go
on sale. If you want to go apple picking, do it.
I've been saying I want to go apple picking for
so long. I love apples. They are one of my
(09:24):
favorite fruits in the world. You know what, this year,
I Am going apple picking. We are making it happen.
If you want to dress up, and you haven't dressed
up for the last five years, dress up for Halloween,
even if three people are in your living room when
you're having your own party. You don't have to go
to some big party. Dress up, enjoy the season, and
have fun. A big through line for my Tommy talks
his life is short. I want to live in the now.
(09:45):
I want to be present. I want to enjoy it all.
Put out your Halloween decorations whenever it makes you happy.
My Halloween candles are out or fall candles, I should
say Fall to Cord comes out on the first day
of Fall, like, let's rock and roll, baby, and let's
have some fun because fall is only here for a
limited amount of days and we need to soak it
all up. I am riled up about Fall. I am
(10:08):
so damn excited. It's the season. I hope you enjoy it, you, guys.
I'm wishing you an amazing fall, full of so many
memories that you will make. And I would love to
hear what your favorite season is. So in my comments
section on Spotify or Apple drop your favorite season. Let
me know, and let me know what your favorite Fall
things are to do. Maybe there's something new I should try,
(10:29):
all right, guys, So to all my witches and pumpkins
and goblins and gremlins and zombies out there, Happy Frickin' Fall.
