Speaker 5 (00:24):
In the wow in the Serial Killers podcast room, there's
Scotty beastanding by. And here in the master control facility,
there's Gandhi. Hello, why'd you put your toilet paper under.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
The desk just in case somebody walks in. I feel
like my corner is getting real sketchy. There's there's bread
and peanut butter and toilet.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Paper now peanut butter and toilet paper. Scary is here
as well.

Speaker 6 (00:44):
Hi.

Speaker 5 (00:44):
And there's danielle venmowing someone yep, wowow, And there's a
straight Natee. We're all in a weirdly really weird moved.
I'll tell you why, because we're about to go on vacation.

Speaker 7 (00:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Are we all hopping on airplace? Flying out of here?

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Scotti, p is it.

Speaker 7 (01:05):
Over there? Kids? That's right kids?

Speaker 5 (01:09):
Well, you know it used to be for many years, Scotty,
you would have to take a different vacation from us,
But now you can take the same vacation.

Speaker 7 (01:15):
That's correct. What my kids don't have off from school?
So well, what are you talking about it summer vacation?
Isn't it still the kids going to school till June
twenty eighth? Yeah, kids got another week or so.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Oh yeah, listening to this and it's after June twenty eighth.
You know that we recorded this earlier. Oh yeah, sorry
about that June.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Something eighteenth eighteenth.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Hey, so let's talk about vacation, and we were talking
about this on our big show as well. If you
want to travel to let's say Barcelona in Spain, be
ready to possibly be stopped by the locals of Barcelona
telling you that they don't want you there.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Wow, I'm going to one of the cities that they
say are getting lit up by the square.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Guns Lisbon square guns talk.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
About apparently people are sick of the over tourism because
it's driving their cost of living up dramatically. They're saying
sixty eight percent over the last time. So because they
don't want the tourists over tourist thing, they shoot you
with squore guns to get you out of there.

Speaker 7 (02:06):
Exactly.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
And if you're wondering what she's talking about, just to
describe a little further, Let's say a lot of airbnbs
are in operation during this tourist month. Those could be
rentals for people who live and work there, but they
can no longer afford to rent those places. Now they
have to move to the outskirts of Barcelona or Lisbon
and have to commute it every day, and it's driving

(02:28):
the cost of everything up because of tourism, even though
these cities do rely somewhat on tourism.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah, they're just saying they want the government to be
more responsible with it, kind of cap it in some
capacity so that groceries aren't through the roof and ticket
prices aren't through the roof, and everything is an incredibly
expensive like it is here in New York City.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
All right, Well, it's happening here in New York City. Yeah,
get your score guns. According to Nate, seriously, no.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
I know what it's like, and not that I'm going
to be out there with a squirt gun, but I
live two blocks from Central Park, which is one of
the biggest tourist attractions in the world world arguably, And
if I want to go get a bagel on a
weekend morning in summer, I have to go at six am,
because by seven.

Speaker 7 (03:11):
The line is out the door.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
And credit to these deli owners and these people that
run these shops, they've got to be able to understand
at least a hundred languages because you go in there
and they're speaking German to goll like you name it,
Japanese and his poor guy's writing down their order and
then giving it to that.

Speaker 7 (03:27):
It's so crowded. It really is a double edged sword. Though.

Speaker 6 (03:31):
I have to come out in favor of the tourism itself,
because first of all.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
We always say he's the guy who lives in Jersey City.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
We always say it, get out see the world. How
are you going to How am I going to see
the world if I'm gonna get hit with a squirrek.

Speaker 7 (03:46):
On and I don't want to. I don't want to
go to a place like that.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Their problem isn't with the tourist holy it's with the
amount of tourism that is being flooded into their city
because it's making a lot of money for some people
about them.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
My friend to keep Brian, runs a business that is
for the summer, and he does tours around the Statue
of Liberty. He does and he's he relies on tourism.
So it's like a sink or swim situation. So I
kind of side with people that get to make money
during tourist seasons because without them, they'd be broke.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
Well, so I think what these protesters are saying is
there's got to be a happy medium. There's got to
be got to be a way to regulate it or something,
or at least someone somewhere needs to take action and
change it some because look, New York City thrives on tourism.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
We've got Broadway, We've got our restaurants, we have.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Square.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
God, dirty Elmo needs those tourists.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
I get to I mean, New York City also depends
on a lot of other industries to keep US afloat
as well. There are other cities that are solely tourism,
and so they realize if there's no tourists, there's sunk.

Speaker 7 (04:51):
So what do you do? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
You brought up a great point, though I didn't even
think about the people that live there and have to
work there, right because Okay, Lisbon, for example, a lot
of people that had houses are putting them up as
rentals now, and they're renting them out on Airbnb and
all of these other services burbo. Well, that used to
be somebody's house, so now everybody's using them as rentals,

(05:15):
which is making the real estate market that much more expensive.

Speaker 7 (05:18):
And the people that.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Were just working jobs, you know, where are they going
to live? Like Elvis said, they an hour and.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
A half now, So you know, should I cancel my
t No?

Speaker 5 (05:28):
Okay, no, don't, okay, just you know where stuff that's
you know, water proof.

Speaker 7 (05:32):
Bring your own water gun and shoot back.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Make sure wear a brawl and your white T shirt.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
I won't traumatize everyone.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Oh, the pest control people were showing up at my house.

Speaker 7 (05:43):
By the way.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
That's the thing I told you. We're going on vacation.
We have cameras and we have people staying in my house.
I just want to float that out there. We've got
we've got friends staying at the house and they have guns.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
They have rot lighters and guns at my house outside
by apartment of remote with crocodiles.

Speaker 7 (06:03):
So there you go.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Hey, so it's tourism season.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
Get out there and enjoy the world, but do it
respectfully and understand that there are people who are living there.
And that's why you go you want to immerse in
their culture. Don't bring our culture to them. They don't
want any of that.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Right, right, right.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
