Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's where Pittsburgh shops for appliance is.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
This is WDE Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Herbert gets the snaps here, there's bringing the house on
a flitz. Herbert steps back, throws and complete the mccaukee
steps away from the tackle, racing down the left sideline.
Ramsey in pursuit, stops cuts back. Ramsey finally hauls him
down and slings him to the turf at the thirteen
yard line. The great throw by Herbert, just a perfect
(00:29):
throw to mconkee. He heads up the left sideline and
picks up a back breaking, huge gain here.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
For the Chargers.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Backbreaking indeed, Rob King, voice of the Steelers on the
Steeler Audio Network. He'll be joining us in the nine
o'clock hour today for Power Hour Steeler Talk. That fifty
eight yard are added to his total of one hundred
and seven of the night, four catches and a touchdown
for lat Maconkeye.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
McConkie was shredding the nar Oh.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
We were really having a tough time at that point
the game. I thought the Steelers defense was adequate in
the first half, and they just broke down eventually. Time
of possession twenty two to thirty eight. I mean, they
just Herbert's just done a long time.
Speaker 6 (01:14):
Herbert is a tough son of a gun. He's resilient,
He's got a cannon for an arm.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
He's fast as hell.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
You saw his wheels last night on a couple of
those plays where they didn't contain them. Yeah, and I
thought they got to him. I thought they smacked him.
I thought they put him under a lot of pressure
in the first half. But the offense did.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing to help them nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:37):
You gotta stay on the field. You got to convert
a third down. You gotta do something.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Aaron Rodgers' worst game by far as a Pittsburgh Steeler,
his second worst passer rating ever, sixteen for thirty one
hundred and sixty one yards, one touchdown, two interceptions. He
looked lost all night, looked under pressure, He couldn't find guys.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
He looked old, He looked like he doesn't like the
night games.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
I think that might have been it. That might have
been part of it.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
And the time time is not cool anymore.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
He's usually in bed by then. Yes, you know, he's
a gombling.
Speaker 6 (02:12):
Game looked amazing, you know, morning game. Sure like we're
mourning people now. Cup of coffee in a game.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Why not one.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
O'clock at the latest.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
DK Metcalf only had thirty five yards receiving last night.
Jalen Warren seventy yards rushing on fourteen carries offensive.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Jalen Warren is a dog that d love that dude.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
There's times where I feel like he is the only
guy trying to win, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Like he is. He plays every down like it's make
or break.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
He saved at least three plays last night with extraordinary efforts.
One was a dump down that that he dug out
of the ground that Rogers threw at him. He broke
two tackles and nearly got the first down when it
have been a tackle for a loss. The other one
the leap, you know, then he ended up going for
ten yards. They kind of wasted all of that. But
(03:07):
he's just every game. I didn't know if he would
have the stamina to be able to beat a bell
cow like this, and he's got it, man, he does.
He's hard to tackle. When they ripped his jersey on
that one too, I don't understand. It was his undershirt.
I don't understand how someone doesn't like it. But I
don't know how the rest don't stop the game.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
The game, yeah, and like come in your spanks, Like,
can you address that?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
We've got an issue because.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
In the early in that game, I don't know if
you saw this, but on the sideline there was an
offensive lineman for the Chargers getting his undershirt cut with
scissors on the side.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Really, no, I didn't see that.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Just do that.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, something that was weird.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
But I think the story of last night was really
Aaron Rodgers was awful, and he can't afford to be awful. No,
he missed so many open receivers last night. The offensive
line did not do him any favors. That's for certain
play calling. I think it's easy to criticize the play
calling when nothing's working.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
You know, oh that didn't work. You should have been
doing something else. But they couldn't do anything.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
There wasn't one thing that was really working for them
other than I still think they get away from the
run too quick every week. I think they need to
be way more boring than they have been, and I
don't know why they're not. I thought we were going
to see Aaron Rodgers with twenty two pass attempts every
game this year, and there's gonna be a lot of
running the ball by committee and instead what did you
(04:35):
see last night? First played from scrimmage for the Steelers
Andres Pete jumps backs them up. They throw the ball
three times out like what are we doing here? And
time of possession on that for the Steelers twenty seconds?
Speaker 6 (04:51):
You know, yeah, right, no time is coming off the clock.
And you can't talk about the disappointment in the run
game without talking about Caleb Johnson. I mean, even though
he had a couple of runs last night, he still
looks lost, agree.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
And he could be dynamic. They thought he was going
to be.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
How much better would this team be if they had
two running backs where there was no letup, where Warren
is running like an angry bowling ball and then he
comes out of the game and Caleb Johnson pounds it
for ten tries, right?
Speaker 4 (05:23):
I mean, I don't want to get all Jerry dulek
on you, but bil I called that in the preseason
with I said to you, I didn't think Caleb Johnson
was going to be able to be what they thought
he could.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
It wasn't even that I thought the.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Way you're doing Jerry d voice, but it was your take.
It was my take, Yes, I remember that take. That
was the correct take.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Well, I just kept saying, like, why are we just
assuming this guy is going to pick up all of
Nausey's carries?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
And that was don't forget.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
That was the narrative at the time, not that he
was going to spell Jalen Warren once in a while.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
He was gonna be the doll, right, he was gonna
be the guy.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
He's not NFL ready at all, and we're halfway through
the season. Janewell has been better than anticipated, though I
will say that it almost washes it, but but it's
more about the wasted draft pick and talk about wasted
draft picks. Broderick Jones is a bust as a number
one draft pick.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Oh wow, coming in this morning, Dude, if.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
You're not contributing at this point in your career, if
it's taken this long and you're still not average at
your position.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
Don't get me started.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
That is a.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
That is my guy. Now you're bumping into it.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Those were my mind and I've.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Tried to stop talking about him. I know what.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
I've tried to talk stop talking about Johnson. My three
concerns preseason were Caleb Johnson, Broderick Jones, and no number
two receiver.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
And I mean I wasn't alone in that. A lot
of people thought.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
That because those were the glaring sore thumb sticking out
and and I think it still bites him in the ass.
But if Aaron Rodgers is no good, it doesn't matter
who you got Eric Dickerson back there.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
It wouldn't matter. Well, actually that might matter. I think
that probably matter. Yeah, I'm gonna take that back.
Speaker 6 (07:11):
Like if you had Jonathan Taylor. Did you see the
day he had yesterday in Germany? Three touchdowns, three hundred
and twenty some yards. I mean, the dude is just incredible.
He had an eighty three yard run, won it and
overtime again, I mean, you get a runner.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Like that, That's why the Colts have the record.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
They have Falcons took them the overtime. The Falcons have
the Jean Robinson I know, but they've been stinking so
bad lately. So that's why I'm saying, like that win
by the Colts makes our win over the Colts look
less impressive. Yeah, you know, like in last night might
be more reflective of what we actually are, which is
(07:53):
the hot garbage, which is a mess. And also, like
I don't like being one of those people that calls
for grown men's job, But I don't know how you
keep your job if you're the offensive line coach of
the Pittsburgh Steelers in year in year out, the offensive
line is a it's a mess. I understand that every team,
this is the one group that is the hardest to
(08:15):
maintain from a health perspective and getting uh, you know,
personnel and being These guys get paid a lot for
a reason. Everybody has trouble with the offensive line. But
they've never ever rallied around Pat Meyer and come out
with a performance that you just weren't just a dominating,
cohesive experience.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
And you say them all, it was going to be out.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
This is a week when you really coach them up,
and they go out there and they were They were
not good, and it was mostly because of the regression
of the tackles, like you said. So it wasn't even
Spencer Anderson so much. I don't know if it was
what Khalil Mack made him look silly and trully to
a pilado, however you say his name.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
Tap it to teams to follow.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
That dude made Roger Jones look silly last night, so
you know it could have gone better for your Steelers.
We'll talk with Jerry D from Los Angeles, California and
Rob King with a power hour of Steeler talk coming
up at nine.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
But a big weekend on the rock and roll front
here Abbey.
Speaker 7 (09:16):
That is right.
Speaker 8 (09:17):
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held its fortieth
induction ceremony on Saturday night. That was in Los Angeles
as well. Reminder to be eligible for nomination for this
artists are required to have released their first record twenty
five years prior to induction.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
So elected for induction this year, We're.
Speaker 8 (09:35):
Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper, The White Stripes,
Chubby Checker, and Outcast. They were inducted in the Performer category,
which recognizes artists who have created music whose originality, impact,
and influence has changed the course of rock and roll.
So the late Warren Zevon and the rap duo Salt
(09:56):
and Pepper were recognized for Musical Influence Award, which is
given to our artists whose music and performance style have
directly influence, inspired, and evolved rock and roll music, impacting culture.
We're gonna actually start with Warren Zevon.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
I need to say one thing real quick though.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yeah about those two, like which one Salt and Peppa
and Warren Zevon being inducted in the musical influence category.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yeah, at the same time, well.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
We need a little salt and pepper with your Warren Zevon,
don't you. You don't want it to be flavorless.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
I mean, did salt and pepper have that much of
an impact?
Speaker 5 (10:30):
That's what I'm just gonna ask. I mean, I I
am of that world, and you know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I mean it's salt and pepper. I mean they were there.
I would you know, I would put TLC above salt
and pepper. And I don't think.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
There's TLC without salt and pepper.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Okay there, this is.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Without salt and pepper.
Speaker 8 (10:54):
Salt and pepper from a standpoint of a uh also, uh,
what I would say is a significantly famous girl group
that makes the paves the way for a t l
C to be marketable. Yeah, so I would say in that.
Speaker 7 (11:11):
Sense that is significant.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Do you remember when Patrick Stewart introduced Selton Pepper sorry
left gentleman so well that way that sounded good.
Speaker 7 (11:24):
That's correct in there it's not Pepper.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
It's pepper, but he did one of those, is schult.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
I swear at least maybe I remember.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
I think I wanted to be Sean Connery doing Slapper Pepper.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
I just didn't. I don't want to know. I'm listening
dump on this segment, but like, hey, guys.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
Iron maidens in you know, yeah, you want to fight.
Speaker 9 (11:57):
You know he's not in Toto, you know that's yeah, right, okay,
I mean push it was an anthem, you know, But
I don't know what songs were really.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Huge outside of that one. Shoot, oh the shop shoot,
none of your business. Giddy up, push it shoop was huge,
and so was push It.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
What a man? What a man?
Speaker 5 (12:23):
What a mighty good man?
Speaker 7 (12:25):
Might y'all just answered your damn question.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
So they weren't They definitely weren't a one hit wonder.
Speaker 8 (12:32):
And again female powerhouse, you know, in the genre male dominated,
very male dominator.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
They've sold fifteen million records worldwide.
Speaker 9 (12:42):
Okay, so shops at shut them out, so you better
push it.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Better push it real good?
Speaker 5 (12:48):
All right?
Speaker 8 (12:49):
So the late Warren Zevon did get his due, and
David Letterman inducted him and with Zevon performing on the
Late Show more than any other artist. It was a
really heartfelt speech as Dave recounted his last appearance on
the show, which was October thirtieth of two thousand and two,
(13:10):
knowing that Warren was dying from lung cancer.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Warren was able.
Speaker 10 (13:14):
To struggle through with the help of his family, with
the help of his friends, and he did save his
own life. And I just wonder, is it more difficult
to save your own life or save the life of
somebody else, or is that equal? But by God, the
fact that Warren existed through this, tortured as he was
and saved his own life. To me, listening to the
(13:36):
man's music, I found it to be even more valuable.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
The book I'll Sleep when I'm Dead is one of
the great rock and roll tones of all time. I
highly recommend getting it, even if you're just kind of
a fan of Warren's Evon, because the story is crazy.
He was not a good guy, and he tried to
reform himself later in life as a better person, and
just as he was kind of finding his footing there,
(14:01):
he he got terminally ill. But the book is full
of famous people who love Warren Zevon so much that
they went to unbelievable lengths to try and get him
healthy and help him kill his demons, and nobody seemingly
could but Jackson Brown in that you you will think
he's an angel when you read that book and all
(14:21):
he tried to do.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
He did so much for Warren Zevon.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
When you say he's not a good guy, what do
you mean, like he's not a good drug abuse had
him doing things.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
He was pretty abusive.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Not exactly a great husband or or wife or husband
or father, I'm sorry, or a wife for that matter. Yeah, terrible,
really bad at that Rob Pot Roast time.
Speaker 8 (14:44):
Uh Letterman also said it was very difficult for him
because he had never talked to somebody who pretty much
understood that in a very short period of time that
he was going to be leading the planet. But after
that show in two thousand and two, uh Zevon picked
up a guitar that he had used every time he
did the show, handed it to Letterman and said, take
care of this for me, and he did, and on
(15:05):
Saturday he gave it to the Killer's guitarist and they
played it for Lawyer's guns and money.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
That's so cool.
Speaker 7 (15:13):
Which I actually really liked their take on it take
a listen.
Speaker 11 (15:18):
Standard, but somehow I got stunner between a rock and
a hard place.
Speaker 8 (15:30):
And I think the Killers are actually were a good
choice to do Zvon. I mean in terms of like
picking somebody who's like, you know, popular today and like
(15:50):
kind of trying to find that like happy medium in between,
like you know, bridging the gap.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
They've got that sound for it. Yes, that was a
good It was a good pick for that one.
Speaker 8 (16:01):
I want to move to the White Stripes here, who
also got their induction, and we kind of knew that
Meg White probably wasn't going to attend, so she continues
her streak of basically not being seen in public for
about fifteen years.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
But her mayon on the most boring argument in rock
and roll is, was Meg White a good drummer?
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Do you like punk music?
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Well, this is just what I'm saying, is that I
think people are trying to compare her to like Neil Peart,
like that's.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
What Yes, it's what it is.
Speaker 8 (16:40):
Yeah, it's umb argument because I would say it's a
difference between what kind of genre of music do you like?
Because there's a ton of punk rock drummers who can't
play to a metronome and a bunch of people that
would rather go see them play because it makes them
feel something, right, And Meg White is that kind of drummer,
(17:01):
and guess who really likes her drumming, Jack freaking White,
so shut up.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
And also I would say that the whole.
Speaker 8 (17:11):
Reason why The White Stripes actually works so well is
that Jack White, without somebody to police him, is a
little too much for people. When Jack White doesn't have
somebody to reel him in, he can kind of get
off the skis a little bit. And sometimes those wreckers
(17:33):
don't connect as much. But what really worked with the
White Stripes was that he had somebody who was almost
limited in a way, and so he had to kind
of get He almost got punk rocked because of that,
where the other person in the band was going, I.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Can't do that.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
What you're doing needs to get.
Speaker 8 (17:52):
Simplified, and it almost made him so accessible to people.
It was the most successful band he's ever been in.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
I think it just kept it sound like the garage.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
Exactly, So he kind of has her to thank for that.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
The aesthetic of the White Stripes has as much to
do musically with with Meg as Jack. To me, I mean,
he's a songwriter and all that, but I think, just
like the tech people want to attack her from a technical.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Standpoint, that's just not what that was, right well said
by you, Yeah, it does that.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Where has she been?
Speaker 8 (18:20):
My understanding with her is that she had a tremendous
amount of social anxiety, which was a big part of
not wanting to do the White Stripes anymore. In addition
to whatever relationship stuff might have been behind the scenes.
Obviously they were married, and you know, for whatever reason
their marriage ended, that was going hand in hand with
the fact that her anxiety was.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
So not the easy thing to do, gets of worse,
stay in a band.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Yeah, yeah, that is.
Speaker 8 (18:47):
So unmanageable that you know, she she's not a public person.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
So because there's so much cool stuff from Jack White here,
let's save it till eight o'clock. Yeah, because we're running
up against her here.
Speaker 8 (19:00):
Is significant and worth its own starting points. So yeah,
we'll start that at day to am.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
And I also thought it was really interesting that Jim
Carrey was the one to introduce Soundgarden.
Speaker 8 (19:10):
That was I didn't get it, and then when I
heard him actually do the introduction, I'm like, oh, it
makes perfect sense.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Yeah, agreed.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
All right, We've got Rob King with a power hour
of Steeler talk coming.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Up for you.
Speaker 4 (19:24):

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Com from the Bridgeville appliances.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
One O two point five DVE Chargers twenty five Steelers ten.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
And it wasn't that close, now it wouldnt it wasnt.
Speaker 13 (20:37):
Sports is brought to you by Bridgeville applies to Steelers
offense locked lacked, excuse me, a lot of things throughout
what became a twenty five to ten loss to the
Chargers last night in Los Angeles. Splash plays third down conversions,
a consistent running game, accuracy and ball placement from the passer,
and according to the passer energy.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
To me, it wasn't as great on offense.
Speaker 14 (21:02):
I felt like we were just kind of struggling a
little bit and couldn't get a play to get going.
We always say we just get a first down, we
usually score on that drive. And we had so many
three and outs and we hurt ourselves with a couple penalties,
and you know, I didn't play very good at all,
so I gotta play better. But we also got to realize, listen,
we got four division games left to play. It's a
(21:25):
long season, and you know it's a good opponent and
we didn't play very good tonight.
Speaker 13 (21:30):
Yeah, that's putting it mildly. The Steelers after they failed
to score on that fade to excuse me, what should
have been a fade to DK Metcalf. It was a
line drive to DK Metcalf at the pylon on the
fourth and six from the LA ten early in the
fourth quarter. Aaron Rodgers at that point in the game
(21:52):
was nine of twenty one for ninety one yards. His
long completion at that point was nineteen yards. He had
no touchdowns, one interception, that had been sacked three times.
Ish lack of energy part of the issue, and that
wasn't something Rogers said he felt or saw coming, but
(22:14):
it was nonetheless something to which the Steelers succumbed.
Speaker 14 (22:18):
It's just sometimes in the game when you're just not going.
It's one of those days where we just couldn't quite
get over the hump and get some first downs.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
His tone of voice was how he played last night.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Yeah, the kids mono and he might.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
I don't know who knows. They're not gonna admit to
that if that's the case. A couple of them looked
at Darnett. Washington looked sluggish last night as well. But
you know, to your earlier point, Mike, if he's better
Aaron Rodgers, this is a different game. That time of
possession disparity is just it's something you look at every week.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Thirty eighth to twenty two.
Speaker 13 (22:55):
Is that's profound a lot, and that's something they haven't
solved all year. Was They've been inconsistent most of the year.
They've had various issues most of the year. Sometimes they
work around and sometimes they don't. This was Rogers' worst
game by far, and their worst game by far offensively.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Yeah, even by far. The defense letting up twelve in
the first half. I mean, well ted are thirteen yeah, thirteen, Yeah,
I mean they also settled for two fifty nine and
a fifty six yard field goal the Chargers, did you
know what I mean? Like, I thought the defense was
(23:35):
good enough last night. They definitely benefited from some drops,
no doubt about it. But this game can be kind
of summed up in the offensive line got dominated and
Aaron Rodgers was bad.
Speaker 13 (23:46):
I'd go for the second thing. I think if they
hit some plays, we're not talking about the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
He was still running for his life all night. I
wouldn't say running for his life.
Speaker 13 (23:55):
I'd say having to exhibit the standard level of pocket
mobility that is required of an NFL quarterback.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Who do you think got well?
Speaker 4 (24:03):
I mean we got to Herbert a little bit more,
then they got to Rogers.
Speaker 13 (24:08):
Yeah, but you know, hit the play to Metcalf, the
second possession, hit the play to john Us Smith, hit
the play to Calvin Austin. We're not talking about the
offensive line.
Speaker 6 (24:22):
They missed him on a touchdown, he missed him on
two touchdowns, but one was wide open.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
He overthrew him.
Speaker 13 (24:27):
I'm not saying that the offensive line was great or
it doesn't need to be better. What I'm saying is
I thought they had ample opportunity to make plays against
an NFL defense in an NFL game, and they did
not make them at an NFL level.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
And that's why they had no points.
Speaker 6 (24:43):
Because the Steelers defense dominated a battered offensive line for
the Chargers, and they got to him five times, and
it didn't matter because he still made plays and hurt
them with.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
His legs when he could.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
His receivers dropped a lot of balls. And the point
that t Ben's made earlier as well, you know, getting
to Herbert did fluster him, no doubt about it. A
couple of interceptions dropped that Joey Porter one was big, Yeah,
that's right, and you.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
Didn't he didn't see him.
Speaker 13 (25:10):
The dugger one was deflected and he's diving and you know,
trying to catch the ball off inches off the ground
and keep it off the ground.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
The Porter one, you.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Gotta catch that effect of that, As he said, that's
five points do it makes that makes it a you know,
a really good NFL corner's got to make that play.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
Agreed, Although I don't know what he was thinking by
picking Ike's number. He knows Ike has stone hands, like
he's kind of asking for it.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Wasn't that like his uncle though, like like he's like
his mentor, Ike two four.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
I love stonehands though always he admitted it. Well, they'd
all be receivers, you know what I mean? Yeah, they
could catch. Now.
Speaker 13 (25:48):
The defense gave up through three quarters thirteen points against
Justin Herbert. That's that's more than good enough. They got
to wait at the end because, like you're saying, thirty
eight minutes to twenty two minutes, it's it's going to
break down eventually, particularly when you set them up with
short fields, because your punt return guy can't catch a
(26:10):
punt and your number two wide receiver can't catch a
ball that hits him in the hands and bounces to
the cornerback.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
You got rid of because he wasn't good enough.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
The inefficiency on third down, Like, who's his go to
receiver on those possession downs?
Speaker 4 (26:25):
I thought it was going to be John neu Smith.
He he's he targets him so infrequently. I am shocked.
You know, his last three games Aaron Rodgers passer rating
against the Bengals one oh three, seven, against the Packers
(26:46):
one oh one five, against the Colts ninety five to
three last night.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
What was it? Why isn't Papina fifty something?
Speaker 13 (26:57):
Yeah, failing fifty point and it was nineteen and changed
for a while for a long while.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
So he was just so yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
But my point is, you can see the arc is
turning more into a line that's going in one direction.
He's got to stop it right there and have some
solid performances here.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
I mean, he went into this weekend.
Speaker 13 (27:21):
I don't have it right in front of me, but
if I remember correctly, I think he was eighth in
the NFL and passer rating and third or fourth in
touchdown passes. And last night he was just really bad.
Did he turn into a pumpkin? Did he all of
a sudden realize he's approaching his forty second birthday.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Is he never going to play a good game again?
Or was that a one off? One oh three to
one for the season.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
It was fifty point six last night, and his last
three games have gone steadily down.
Speaker 13 (27:49):
Let me say steadily, I mean up in the one
hundred air range, right.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Yeah, that's steady. Every game it's gone down, but last
night was a significant dip. Yeah. No, no, I'm not
suggesting the next game is a one because.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
You're playing defense.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
If it's a one, retire on the spot on the
field before the game is over.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
They just they gotta be better. And you know the
receiver thing.
Speaker 13 (28:13):
They targeted Metcalf seven times, you get three catches. They
targeted Calvin Austin seven times. He had two catches. It's
not that they don't have another receiver so that they're
not getting what they need to out.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Of their first two. Totally agree.
Speaker 13 (28:28):
All right, fix that and a lot of other stuff's
gonna fall in up. Let's do a quick break.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
We'll come back Top five plays of the game and
lots more to get to from the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
Speaker 7 (28:37):
Abby, that is correct. You sure said it, whitest, great.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
Job right.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
New Cheer Radio.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Home of the Pittsburgh Steelers one out two point five
dve the DV Morning Show Top five plays of the
game from last night's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Boy,
what a waste of a Steeler Nation takeover at SOFI
Stadium last night.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Fairly it was pretty profiled.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
We could tell it looked like that on the broadcast.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
When the Chargers scored. There was not much of a
you know, uproar.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
Before the game started. They were practicing the silent count.
The Chargers were yes, uh it was all for not
during the game. The Steelers were practicing these silent offense.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Number five, kicking things off literally once again, I mean,
thank god for Boz ten to twenty five into the
first quarter, they line him up from fifty nine yards.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
It was good bye ten.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Here's a snap, here's the boot from Boswell, and that
pick is good. Fifty nine yard field goal for Chris Boswell.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Three nothing Steelers at that point. That was his sixteenth
in a row.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Yes, that streak would come to an end.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
It would, unfortunately at number four, five minutes left in
the first period of play. And the reason I have
a hockey reference there is because we'd have a hockey score.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Aaron Rodgers steps.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Back to pass, sacked Khalil Mack with the safety Roger's back.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Rogers steps up. Now he's going to retreat back into
the end zone and Rogers is sacked by Khalil Mack.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
And it's going to be a safety, almost a touchdown.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
He fumbled, Oh my lord, and thank god he fell
on me.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Got his own fumble buck Yeah, uh that well, and
had had Joey Porter Junior intercepted Herbert on the gift
that he gave him there, that would have saved us
from that.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
But it didn't happen. It's three to two.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
There at number three, Aaron Rodgers was just off all
night long.
Speaker 10 (31:33):
R J.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Mickens on this interception stopped yet another Steelers drive.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Rogers gets a snap back looking right, fires over the
middle of Gifts, intercepted, overthrown for metcalf and it is
picked off by Mickens and Mickens returned it to the
thirty six yard line of the Steeler.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
A couple of minutes left in the first half there,
that allows the Chargers to get another score before half,
and then they get the ball back to start the
second half. Nobuno at number two play of the game.
This was right at the end of the third quarter.
(32:11):
They line up Dicker the kicker. Now he's not the
thicker kicker. The thicker kicker is the one that plays
for San Francisco. This is Dicker the kicker San Francisco
or the Rams.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Was it the Rams? I'm getting confused. I think it's
the Rams, all right.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Well, at any rate, Dicker the kicker ends up Dicker
the donker.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
That kick is up and that kit.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Is no good, no good off the crossbar and no.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Good and maybe are off the upright. I beg your pardon.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Maybe maybe this is the break this twolers needed in
this game.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Nope, spoiler alert, no.
Speaker 8 (32:50):
Narrator, no, no, indeed it was not fast forward to
what was there ten minutes left in the fourth quarter
on this.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
One, Yeah, like a your number one play of the game,
Laddi Merconkie fifty eight yard reception from Justin Herbert.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Herbert gets his snaps here, there's bringing the house on
a blitz. Herbert steps back, throws and complete the mccakey
steps away from tackle, racing down the left sideline. Ramsey
in pursuit, stops cuts back. Ramsey finally hauls him down
and slings him to the turf at the thirteen yard line.
The great throw by Herbert, just a perfect throw Tomconkeye.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
He heads up the.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Left sideline and picks up a backbreaking huge game here
for this.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
That's how you win games. You make plays it.
Speaker 13 (33:39):
Yeah, you can't catch, you can't throw a ball any
better than that. Brandon Eckles had a tough night in
the slot, but he was all over that. That window
was minuscule. It was like the scorel window. You know,
the little area was a little bit bigger than a
puck from the blue line. They made the play to
put the game away.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
That gave Vidalo two yard touchdown run. Follow that up
with the Dante Jackson interception. Khalil, I'm sorry, Keishawn Williams
fumbling a punt and that would be all she wrote
for your Pittsburgh Steelers last night, twenty five to ten.
They lose at so far and they come back home
(34:22):
five and four with their tail tuck between their legs,
having to face the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
And Mike Tomlin's boogeyman Joe Flacco.
Speaker 13 (34:32):
Great offense and horrific defense coming to town.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
And we are neither of those things. We're right in
the middle of the pack in both of those things.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Sunday, Abby will take us through some of the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, induction speeches and performances.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
When we come back. Which are we focusing on here?
Speaker 7 (34:50):
Yeah, we're going to pick it up with white stripes.
Speaker 8 (34:53):
I have soundguard and queued up also Cindy Laupper.
Speaker 7 (34:56):
But I mean, we got a lot of favorites we
can get to.
