I don't think pursued that there's any way they can
blow this now, right I you, I mean, listen, I
don't want to talk that into into existence. But if

they lose two games, if they were to lose, it's
almost impossible that they could lose to Penn State and
Wisconsin and Purdue. But if they lost two of those,
then I think it would knock them out of the
title game, which would then kiss them into the larger tournament.

hearing the roars of the crowd and all that, and
going out onto the streets to celebrate with all the locals,
and then seventy nine, which I vaguely recall, but it's
been a long stretch since, and so I don't take
any reflected pleasure in watching. I don't know about anybody else.

Tyler Glass now out there and Isaiah Kiner filefa out there.
I mean, once again, this is every year. This is
a tradition that you could really track, and if I
weren't lazy, I would go back and pull out all
the World Series participants who were with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
And I don't mean like, yeah, they were in single
a seventeen years ago kind of thing. I mean, like, yeah,

three years ago they were at a full piece for
the Pirates, and now they're playing in the World Series.
The question I have about by the way, I have
to say quickly Joe Carter's home run, Bill Mazerowski's and
we can compare those car and fisks and everything else.
I mean, I don't think we as a society, as
a as a sports loving world, have talked nearly enough

about what Andy pae has did with the season on
the line. I mean, that is one of the most distinctive.
It is not another on a pile of climactic home runs.
This is undo itself, sort of like the immaculate reception
on some level, like the game is on the line

Where do we go from there? As a society? That's

safe with the oven mit, where does that rank in
the pantheon of all time articles of clothing in sports
championship history?

funniest things that I've ever seen in sports is Joe
nicro when he was on the when he was on
the Twins, and he has the nail file in his
back pocket and the umps gather around him. All four
of them are standing in a in a semicircle around
Joe nekro and they're like, we know you, we know

your scuff and the ball. Joe, I don't even know
what you're talking about you can just tell it by
their body, like that's what the conversation is down on
the field, and Joe Nekro has his hands in his
back pockets and uh and the referee and the umpires
are standing and he and he like goes like, I
don't know what you're talking about, and throws his arms
out to either side, and out of his right hand
flies the nail file, and the umpire closest to him

has his hand on his chin, and out of the
corner of his eye, he just kind of turns and
picks it up. And he would have gotten away with
the crime if that one ump hadn't seen it, except
we all would have seen the nail file, and then
after the game he would have been like, he got y'all,
he pooled y'all, But they caught the one them caught
it in real time.

Put that umpire's demeanor will never not make me laugh
because he has his elbow on his like his right
elbows on his left arm crossing, and he's just got
his face and his chin sitting in there like almost
like he's exhausted, and he's like just sitting there.

Really it's high comedy, like you know in real time

make me think about when you talk about uniforms, pursuit
or like wardrobe related stuff, how about this one. I've
suggested this to any number of pro football players, and

as far as I know, none of them have taken
me up on this. Why not in front of a
big game like here comes the divisional round game the
whole week, just don't shower, or you could even make yourself.
You could like you could put a stink on your uniform,
like you could get skunk stink or something, and then
no one would want to tackle you, right, that would

I've avoided it as long as we can. I know
all this, Believe me. I see social media. I listen
to you guys. I hear what's going on on the
banks of the three Rivers, ear to the ground from
the twenty five hundred miles away. The word is after
the trade deadline has come and gone. When when Mike
Tomlin before it was like, I like shopping and we

gotta get we gotta solve that wide receiver problem. We're
tied to Jakobe Meyers. Everybody told him, not not tom
That didn't say that name specifically. But there were a
number of high end receiver or number two receivers, legitimate
starter level wide receivers, but a lot of after it
passed was a lot of the reaction from the talking

heads has been Steelers are too smart to overpay. Other
teams were willing to overpay, not the Steelers, though, How
smart has it been? All the sober voices out there
giving cover to this and trying to rationalize this away.
What's the answer to this. The Pittsburgh Steelers have now
gone almost two seasons without a legitimate starter level second

wide receiver. It's the quarterback league. Offense is all that matters.
Van Jefferson, Robert Woods, one hundred and twenty pound, Calvin Austin.
What are we doing? I mean, when this is a
team that we're supposed to take them seriously, they know
this is this is absurdity.

Yeah, well, I mean, and we've talked about that a lot.
I think that you, you know, as a Steeler fan,
that there is a level of ingenuineness from them when
discussing this stuff, because there's a fine line between wanting
to win now and mortgaging your future for a risky investment. Okay,

all right, And I'm not saying that I'm not saying
but Dave, I'm not saying you're not right. I'm saying
that people aren't pointing it out at nauseum because it's
almost like understood everything that you're saying, like, yeah, they
screwed themselves again going into this year with everything. I
unlike you do not think that keeping George Pickens would

have worked. I think that George Pickens and Aaron Rodgers
are about as oil and water as you can get
in terms of professional approach and what this team is about.
One of them professional, yes, and the other one you
can't approach. But the difference is, like, what has made

this offense even go a little bit right now given
an offensive line that has been a work in progress,
is that they have gravitated to Aaron Rodgers like he's
a Queen Bee. I didn't know how many daddy issues
this team had until he got here, and the leadership
void that was here was such a massive chasm that

needed to be filled. A guy like that would have
not ever been able to exist in what they are
doing right now that is working.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
I only semi agree, and I you know, I can't
go back and say if George Pickens has learned to
maybe comport himself differently in Dallas, because they really did
trade him away and maybe that was his come to Jesus.
But as I said for the last six eight months,
is you know the bet you make if you're the Steelers,
if you want to win and you're bringing in a

forty plus QB, obviously he needs as much help as
you're going to be able to surround him with. You
keep George Pickens because he's in his contract year and
someone gets in his ear, if not the man in
the mirror those close to him, who who's whose money
is tied to him? And beyond. We'll say to him, George,
one good season of performance on the field and good

behavior off the field yields one hundred years years of wealth.

Yeah, exhibited a very reason that would take that.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
I mean, what is it going bad down there now
for him? I mean, he's lighting it up down there.
He's the he's the third leading receiver in terms of
yard it's the offensive be like, well, what evidence is
there that he's helped the Cowboys. The offense is vastly
better than it was last year in Dallas. I mean,
that's that's the evidence in football terms. They should have
kept him, but they didn't.

The concern for me is going forward, as the other
thing I have said repeatedly is this is great with
Arthur Smith. And they say, well, they offset the need
for a second wide receiver with all those tight ends
and all they're doing. But Arthur Smith, in success is
going to and so poof that's going to be a
mirage too. Do you think Arthur Smith is going to
be the offensive coordinator of the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
I thought, I think if if Tomlin would have lost
this game in the fashion that a lot of people
thought the Steelers were going to lose to the Colts.
There was a small chance that Arthur Smith would have
been the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers by years then,
I think.

You know, it's I don't know if you're being I
think you're being semi serious, and I think I agree
with you. I don't think that if.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
I'm being I'm being I'm not saying it was likely.
I'm saying that, you know, the only way Arthur Arthur
Smith stays here is if he is the head coach
and Tomlin had this team headed an in direction there,
especially from the defensive standpoint, where that might have been
a reality.

I don't think it is now.

I agree. But also and I I really am not
trying to be uh you know, uh super glass half
empty about everything that was. That was a splendid performance
in h actor sure against them Cults, best team in football,
you could make a case through the first half of
the season so far. I talk about mirages, though I'm

not sure. I think I agree with Roethlisberger though have
you heard he's in the news this week? He said,
And like I say, I think he's right. Not the
cynic in me is like, okay, you want you want
the turnover battle six zero fellas, you better win that game.
Of course you're gonna win that. And by only a

touchdown is a little weird that that that's all they
they won by, But okay, they survived the game. Doesn't
make a difference in the NFL if you went three
to two or seventy eight to seventy seven, just get
the win. I just don't know how transferable it is.
The Patriots performance and the Colts performance are are two
out of you know, so there is some pattern of

the Steelers force in turnovers. It has certainly not been
weak to week. I don't think you can depend on
that to carry the day. So it gives me concern
about how if the defense is now fixed by that
performance and running more zone than man and all of
that kind of stuff. I don't know if that transfers do.
I do caution everybody about getting over their skis because

at the same time that the Steelers were whipping up
on the Colts for most of the game, the Carolina
Panthers were winning in Lambeau against the team who housed
the Steelers. The week before, so you know it's obviously
you know it's coin flips in the NFL largely. Well,
I think this is a huge one.

I mean I say every week it's a huge game.
But you know, in the AFC standings and all the
rest of it, if they go out there and are
competitive and really should be able to take advantage of
what Harbaugh has tried to build up there, which is
the offensive line, and injuries of undermine that they should
have an advantage in that regard. And so let's see

if it carries the day in say.

Chargers gave me my tickets. They got me they Uh
I was going to say professional courtesy, but that makes
me sound like a pretentious ass. But anyway, they gave

me ticket and and and uh so you know, I'm
surrounded by Steelers fans and I they the Steelers quickly,
if you remember, it was like fourteen nothing in the
blink of an eye, and uh they And so I
took a panning shot of thirty thousand people in that joint,
and I mean it was all terrible talks. It was

like nothing you've ever seen before on the road. And
I posted the video and I said like, hey, I'm
eighteen hundred miles away from Pittsburgh, PA, look at this.
And uh, suffice to say, the Chargers were not pleased.
They were not pleased that I posted that video from
their seats.

the diminutive dime dealer who they placed on ir where

I'm sure he won't take up much space. For the
fourth straight week, Murray is sidelined due to a lingering
foot injury. Apparently they can't fight a surgeon with tiny
enough hands to operate on Kyler's baby feet. Think about it,
pinky toe probably looks like a whart. But the Cardinals
aren't worried about Jacoby finding his footing. He's won all
three games he started for the Birds, and the Cards

are dealing. Yes, the Cardinals have been flying high since
they stopped running the Murray up offense, but the Seahawks
are still the alpha bird in the West with a
six and two record, and Jackson Smith in Jigba has
been soaring higher than any other receiver in the league,
scoring his fourth straight one hundred yard receiving game last week.

Vikings do to deserve going from eight mile to the wire.
Both these teams are coming off big wins after getting

as as bad good teams. They're good rosters, but they
haven't been playing so good. So this game is basically
the slappy Mendoza line.

shash Hank. The Ravens defense started the year with so
many injuries they had to call up their practice squad
team doctor to help with the Kenny Wood line at

The Vikings, meanwhile, had an emotional win last week against
