Speaker 1 (00:03):
Brought the formation Punk bake by Allen steps up, throws
back of the end zone touch down to Keon Coleman
for the Buffalo Bills, bought himself some time found Pullman
in the back of the end zone.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
The author of that play call.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Joining us right now from the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network,

(00:38):
Harmon being out yesterday was going to be a big deal,
no matter what. But I did not think they were
going to run at will and amass the largest rushing
total a team has put on the Steelers since nineteen
seventy five, and the most yards ever rushed for against
the Steelers in that stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
No, I didn't expect that either. I didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I mean, I know, Derek Harmon's good, he's good, right,
and the Jets ran all over him without Derek Harmon too.
And there's a reason you got a Harmon. There's a
reason you got a quality who, of course is injured
and out. It was you know, all season long, I
felt like the offense needed to.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Do more for the defense and.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Just stay out there longer, keep the defense off the field.
You know, this attrition. But the Bills really moved the
ball well in the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
You know, this was.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
The the Students had the lead, but the Bills were
playing well. So you needed an adjustment. You needed to
go down and whatever adjustment, whatever that word means, but
you needed to go down and I mean just put
some points up simply means quit doing the thing that's
not working.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
It worked again and again and again and again for
the Bills. I mean it was like you know those
old Vince Lombardi tapes, like we're gonna run, We're gonna
run this sweep, We're gonna block here, We're gonna we're
gonna take it to them every play. You know, we
don't care if they know what's coming. Well they didn't.
The Bills didn't care if the Stars knew it was coming.
The students had to know what was coming.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
TJ.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Wats said after the game he's never seen the team
be able to do that. Just run the same play
or two plays whatever it was, again and again and
again and again, and you can't do anything about it.
It can't be a good feeling when you're on a
football field.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
So at that point, is there adjustments you can make
schematically or is this just hey man, you know what's
coming and you can't stop it. And I know that
they bounced around and tried a couple of different things
and went in and out of you know, different defenses there,
but it seemed to me that like sell out against
the run at that point. Well, I think they probably did.
(02:51):
I mean the Bills, you know, the Colts. They did
a great job against the Colts. They did a great
job against the Bears.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
The Bills were a little bit different because the Bills
went with a lot of heavy personnel.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I think. I mean, again, I haven't seen the snap.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Two tackles were out, their two tackles were out, and
they just said, you know what we're going to But
they were you know, they they play, they play some
tight ends. They have a tight end named Jackson Hawes
who's a rookie who's basically a glorified blocker, and they
just lined up It felt to me like they lined
up with a lot of tight ends and just said,
(03:25):
we're going to ram it down your throat. At that point,
there's only so much you can do. There's only so
much you can do personnel wise. You've just got to
find a way to stop it. And they just could
not find a way.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
To stop it. First play from scrimmage for the Bills yesterday.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Handuff goes to Cook Starks left and bounces back to
the white gets around the edge, hesitation, move along the sideline,
and in the first play of the game, rips off
an eighteen yard game out to the forty one yard line.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Again and again, same play, same place.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Start left, cut right, start left, cut right, start left,
cut right again again, again again again.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
And whether you I mean, I don't know, whether somebody
needs to have back side contain Hey, stay here, stay
on this edge, don't go anywhere. I don't know yet.
I don't know what to tell you, Randy, other than
it was it was a dismal watch. And it's hard
to know in a game like that.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Again, here's here's the And I talked about this all
last week, and I don't know why this is so
under Mike Tomlin, certainly last year, but I think probably
historically they've been a good third quarter team.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Like they come out after halftime and they do a
nice job.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Remember everyone's talking about they can't they can't start the
game under Matt Cannell. Well, they were still winning games
because they in the second half, they were able to
come out and do things well in this game. You know,
they've played of the top quality teams they've played. Okay,
so the Chargers kind of took it to them, but
they were leading at half. This is the this is
the situation in all these games, and these are all
(04:58):
top teams, Seattle, Green Bay, Chicago and the Bills.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Not only leading at halftime.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
But getting the ball to begin the second half, write
a chance to I mean, if you if you go down,
you're they were up. I think it's sixteen to seven
against the Packers. If you go down and score a
touchdown like that's maybe game over. You go out a
nice like seven minute drive, the Packers are they're pretty
well cooked. Instead, you know, the Packers were they score
(05:29):
I mean it felt like they scored seven more points
when I was walking out to my car.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I mean, they just they just started to run away
with it, you know what. I mean so.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
And that's the other thing that I think is tough
is that there's been a couple of games in which
things have just gotten away from this dealers and they
just haven't been able to either drive the ball down
the field or make a defensive stop, you know. And
I understand the defense has been out there too much,
but give us a three and out and stem And
(05:56):
we saw this at the end of last year too.
You know, Mike Tomlin talks about complimentary football, the inability
to make a stop on defense or go on to
drive on offense to rescue defense.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
It's just it hasn't been there in some of these games. TJ.
Watt said as much yesterday.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
If they got a three and out there, you know,
it's the time of possession. Isn't just the offense's fault,
but it does have something to do with it. And
when you're they four for twelve on third and fourth
downs yesterday, they were not converting when they come back.
Even Aaron Rodgers comes back in the game after he
(06:31):
breaks his nose or whatever happens, and then Mason throws
the pick, and it's just like we went from being
up ten to three to now we're down seventeen ten
or sixteen ten. I think it was the second player,
maybe the first play for Scripps. Frasier dribbles it back
to Aaron Rodgers and we lose five yards. It was
Keystone Cops the entire time. There was no point where
(06:55):
they looked like they were going to get it all together.
The offense was in complete eat disarray yesterday, complete disarray,
and defensively they were just getting beaten play after play,
and I don't know how you fix that.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Right, Yeah, this was I mean, there's been games to
me in which, you know, we've talked about this a
lot on our show, my show at Max, is that
you just cannot keep having the number of three and ounts.
This year, they rank among the worst in the NFL
in three and outs. Right, they're at the bottom of
the league. And that's not a good thing to beat
(07:30):
the bottom of the league in.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Right.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
So you're you know, you're getting out there, you're getting
the ball, and then you're punning it away and then
and then the defense has to go right back out
there again, and after a while that causes the defense
to wear out. I thought that was a big part
of the problem down the stretch last year.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
They've been able to avoid it. For the most part.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
It hasn't bitten them too badly, although it's bitten them
in the games they've lost. But you know, they they've
only won the time of possession twice this year, and
once was because they had a kneel down and had
thirty minutes and five seconds, right, they won by ten seconds.
You know, they were dominated in that facet yesterday, and
usually usually that's both. But mostly I've been blaming I
(08:11):
think that the offense because of all those three announces.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
They've been the main culprit.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
You know, the defense that defends least defends best usually
get them off the field and find a way to
get a lead. You know, you think about all those
four games I just talked about. If you come up
with one drive right now, you're up two scores, or
in the case of Green Bay, three scores, although you
could get technically two touchdowns and two point conversions, but
you're up big in those games. Now you're causing them
(08:37):
to have to play differently. Now they've got to throw
the ball. Now that quarterback has to hang on to
that ball a split second longer, right, because he's looking
to make a play down the field and now here
comes your defense making plays. So that's complimentary football, and
this Twoers just haven't been able to do it. Largely
it's been the offense. But in yesterday's game, Randy, the
Bills offense was marching from the jump right from the
(08:59):
get go. They just weren't converting and the Steelers came
up with a couple turnovers. So this wasn't a case
of they got worn down. They were being run against
from the very first play of the game.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
I think offensively though, with that third down conversion being
the story, to my way of thinking, it's never third
and short. It seems like it's always third and seven,
third and eight, and as a fan you're looking at
third and eight just thinking like, I don't think they're
gonna get it, and the proof is in the pudding,
Like it never seems like they're they're managing from anything
that might even be possible of converting that third down.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
And again, this has been one that's been tough to
watch all year too. It feels like third and seven
is a steep, steep climb for the Steelers. And then
then against the Steelers, right, we've seen a lot of
third and tens, third and eleven be converted against them.
So I mean, there's some things to sew up here.
The only you know, look, this was a dispiriting loss
(09:55):
to me. The only good thing about it is, you know,
it would have been nice to have a game in
hand against the Ravens, a game lead against the Ravens,
but game ultimately broken hand. But yeah, ultimately you have
to beat the Ravens. But still, you know that this game,
of all the games they've lost, like I could. Okay, Seattle,
you know, things happened, they had a chance to win that,
(10:16):
they had a chance to win that game. You throw
an interception in the end zone, the ball gets covered.
Seattle's really good, Okay, Jalen Ramsey makes a defensive play
in that Seattle game. It's completely different.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Green Bay Chicago.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
I mean, you had a chance to beat Chicago at
the end of the game or go down and tie
the question. Green Bay, you were leading going into the
fourth quarter. I didn't like the way that got away
from you. But okay, that's fine, and green Bay just
went and stopped Detroit. This to me, even even considering
the Chargers game, which was not a good performance on
the road, this was there.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
This was the toughest pill to swallow this year.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
This was the one that that is going to have
fans thinking it's you know, it's just if you weren't thinking,
is the same thing you're gonna be after this game?
This is and and listen, if you're just uwers, you
have to own it because that's what you put out
on the field.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
I think one of the stories that isn't getting talked
about enough is that what what might be considered one
of our best players, Chris Boswell, did he even have
He didn't even have an attempt. I don't think he
did he have any attempts in the Bears game either.
This guy is ice cold, a self professed serial killer.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
You know, as we're not letting him kill. Yeah, we're not.
We're not.
Speaker 6 (11:24):
We're not putting him in a chance to even make
a sixty four yard field goal, which he routinely makes.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Well, you know, I mean that the point being that
the offense isn't getting on the other side of the
other side of the field. But they have gone forward
a little bit. Yesterday, they only went for it once
on fourth down. Of course, that was the fourth and
two near the goal line. After they threw the ball
all the way down to the goal line, they decided
to run it in on fourth and two and any
ill designed play and we'll leave it at that. And
(11:49):
that's when they decided to try and play renegade after.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
That, which was which that was a that was a
bad choice. Milk was a bad choice.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
It was the equivalent of like spinal tap when they're like, oh,
we gonna do stoneinge, right.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
It's like that read the room.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Steelers were three for ten with third and fourth downs yesterday,
but three of nine and third down efficiency conversely eight
of fifteen for the Bills. Yeah, and that's a big
part of the story. And you know at least one
of those was a touchdown, if not two of them.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
But the other thing, too, was.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
The the you know, the Bills didn't need to get
to third down often long first down runs. It's okay
to get a first down on first down, and it's
okay to get a first down and second. That doesn't
have to be third down conversions. The play total, I
think the Bills doubled them up in amount of plays,
or maybe the Steelers at the end of the game
was seventy four to forty three. That's right, seventy four
(12:49):
plays and the Steelers ran forty three plays.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
That felt every bit like that, though like it didn't.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
I remember thinking in the third quarter at one point,
I was like, has our offense even been on the
field for more than eight seconds? Like it really did
feel like that third quarter was all Bills offense.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Yeah, and yes it was.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
And you know, all year long, you know, people have
been saying, there, how come Jalen Warren's not getting more carries?
How come Pat fire Muth's not getting more touches? All
legitimate questions, and the answer has always been because we
don't have the ball enough.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Right, So, if you know, if you.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Run ten more plays a game, they've been out snapped
every play. I think I think they might have had
more plays last week against the Bears for the first
time all year. But so Mike Matt Williamson had the
stat that at that pace prior to last week's game,
the defense would play three more games in the offense
over the course of the It's crazy. So where so
(13:42):
imagine Jalen Warren gets three more games at what are
his touch is going to look like?
Speaker 7 (13:46):
Then?
Speaker 4 (13:47):
And Pat Fryarmouth and you know, Dk Metcalf. We got
to get the ball. We have to have the ball
to get them the ball.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Maybe if they tried doing it on those rare occasions
when they do have the ball. I don't know, Like,
is nobody open all year?
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I don't know. They're just double in Dk and then
nobody else can get open. I don't understand how.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I know we were using the jumbo package for a
lot of this season to give some training wheels to
Broderick Jones, But at some point, how are you not
turning that into Friarmuth busting out, you know, open and
getting him the ball and getting him hot and getting
into a rhythm. There is no rhythm. There's no musicality
to this offense. Ever, this looks exactly like it looked
(14:29):
like under Matt Canada to me, which is to me,
zero rhyme a reason for anything that they're doing. This
is the second time this year they should have pounded
the rock, running NonStop and they didn't do it. Everybody
knew it. Tomlin at halftime said, yeah, we got to
run the ball more. And then they go out first
play from scrimmage, drop their broken wristed quarterback back and
(14:53):
you know, or snap it to him in the pistol
and they try to throw the ball there he checks
three guys who were covered and still to make a
play Like it's they're making it more complicated that they
than they should.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
When you have Jalen Warren and Gainwell who.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Are able to do what they are able to do
against a team who can't stop the run, why the
hell are we not handing it off non stop and
use the guy who can hand off because he's got
both risks healthy.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
So forget forgetting the last time there.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
You know we are And this is this is a
good example of with all that information just throw out
there like you're trying to be a bit of a
sieve right like after the game, like your information is
just pouring in from everywhere. You're trying to figure out
what's best and you're hoping that a lot of the
information is accurate. I believe this one is accurate. The
Steelers in the last two games have combined sixteen third
(15:47):
quarteryards sixteen thirteen against the Bears three yards yesterday of offense.
And keep in mind, let me underscore this again. They
got the ball to begin the half. It's not like
they kicked it off and the other team ran seven
minutes and then he got to three it out and
they went on another six minute drive and that was it.
You only got one possession. You got the ball first.
(16:10):
That's I just I don't know what's going on in
the third quarter. I mean, if you're going to point
to if you're going to look at a global thing
and everything you're saying there, certainly they've got to look
at everything, right, they have to look at everything. Why
is this not working? Why is that if you were global?
If you're to take a step back and say, what
is the problem with this team? Third quarter? They've been
(16:31):
They've the worst third quarter team in the NFL. And
in these losses, five of their six losses they've been
ahead and gotten the ball first. I don't understand how
like that doesn't wait. It's like it's like if somebody
told you in math, hey, two plus one equals you
know minus four. No, I don't understand how that adds
up that way. I don't understand it.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
So I think I read it yesterday. Six times this
season they've gotten the ball to start the second half
and it's resulted in four punts. I don't know how
many of those are three and ounce an interception and
a fumble return for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, that's I don't. I don't. I can't understand why
that's happening.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
And another Matt Williamson stat going into this weekend, there
were four teams that had led in every game four teams.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
The Steelers were one of them.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
The Steelers had led in every single game this year.
The Steelers were six and five. The other three teams
were twenty five and eight. That's why I just like,
I just feel like I felt all along this is
the kind of game that's that's hard. You know, it
makes you doubt afterwards, but I felt all along like
there's more there, right, I mean, they've been leading every game,
(17:40):
there's the again, it seems like the formulas in place
for victory and they just, for whatever reason, it just
eludes them. And I and you know, again, if you
know you're in with a group that's that's you know,
on average eight and three, right and you're six and five.
I don't under I just it's mystifying to me. I understand,
(18:02):
how in tune.
Speaker 6 (18:02):
Are you in the in the broadcast booth with what's
going on in the crowd, Because I felt like, first
of all, beginning a third quarter, like fifty percent of
the crowd was even there. But because of the way
that that progressed, I felt like the crowd energy was
pretty good. And then after those two, I mean, it
flipped harder than I've ever seen it flip in my life.
Are you aware of that in the booth like this,
(18:23):
that den of the crowd noise kind of make it
up to you guys and tell a story broadcast. Yes,
you know, there were times where you could tell the
fans were up, especially in the first half.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
You know, towels are going like they were into it.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
You know they're looking for a stop, even early on
in the third quarter after the touchdown, which was just
a gut punch that you know. I mean, you get
you get the ball to begin the second half, you're up,
you have the ball, and twelve seconds later you're trailing run.
That's that's very difficult, bro. Yes, you can hear. You
can hear what's going on. Usually I can hear it
(18:58):
through the headphones and when the place begins to empty
out a little bit, which has happened in this occasion
against Green Bay where the two the two biggest examples
you can hear the chance of the crowd, You can
hear the lack of energy or the energy.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Yeah, I can hear it up there.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
This is the play that turned the game around by
action pass dancing out to his right in trouble and
hit from behind by Bosa.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
The ball is out, it is scooped up, It is
run in for a Buffalo Bill's touchdown. Christian Benford scooped
it up, and one play into this second half, the
Bills have taken the league.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
What not to Do?
Speaker 3 (19:38):

Slash touchdown to learn more and Mike pursuita joining us
now with the post mortem on Steelers Bills Bills victorious
in a record breaking offensive performance for the Buffalo Bill's
running backs yesterday. In fifty years, you've not seen this
(20:33):
against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 7 (20:35):
Not since Week two of nineteen seventy five, when those
same Buffalo Bills rushed for three hundred and ten yards.
Had we seen as many as two forty nine which
the Bills posted last night.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Juice was on the loose that day on the.
Speaker 7 (20:48):
Ground in They're twenty six to seven. Just systematic taking
a part of the Steelers. There was nothing happening in
any phase that was able to remotely affect the Buffalo
onslaught and afterwards TJ. Watt did not mince words. Twelve
(21:11):
games into a season that's threatening to implode, Watt's characterization
could not have been more incriminating.
Speaker 8 (21:19):
We just need to look within, man. I don't want
to look at any at any other examples. We talk
about the talent that we have, we talk about everything
that we have, but right now we don't have a
kick ass defensive group.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
And that's all that I can speak on. Wow, you
got nothing.
Speaker 7 (21:37):
If you don't have that as a defensive group, there's
been That's the second example of a glaring indictment from
within cam Hey. We're talked about not having enough fight
after the Green Bay game, which is kind of the
same thing.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Now.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
They bounced back and played maybe their best game of
the year defensively the next week against Indianapolis. Sustain it, though,
We'll see if this can spark something against Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
How many times did they get a hand on Josh
Allen in the backfield yesterday?
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Only to see him I had him with four missed sacks.
But that's part of his deal.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
I know. I mean, your deal is that you know
your ninety million dollar guy's got to bring him down.
Speaker 7 (22:19):
Yeah, at least maybe two of the four times. Yeah,
maybe contain him a little better than they did. I
don't know. Offensively, they stunk as well. Aaron Rodgers took
himself and his offensive teammates to task when asked what
they might be able to do to fix all of
those issues that were on display against the Bills.
Speaker 9 (22:39):
When there's film film sessions, everybody shows up. And when
I checked through a route, you do the right route,
you know, like John and I just were on same page.
I checked to his breaker and he ran out breaker.
You know, I'm John's are two professionals. I'm sure he's
(23:02):
you know, he's sick, sick about that. But you know,
I threw a ball I thought was going to get
hit by the wind and it was four yards over Roman,
so I got to make that throw. But you know,
we have our meetings every week, we have other opportunities
outside of the facility and look forward to seeing all
(23:25):
the boys there.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
In breaker outbreaker, we'll take a throw another Ryan t.
Speaker 7 (23:33):
So the guy's not showing up or a guy not
showing up, that's We're pretty unanimous and figuring that that's
the extra stuff, the stuff at night, the outside of
the facility, extra effort type of commitment, which is not apparently.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
All there, no, no, And we got rid of George
Pickens because he was a head case, and we've got
a couple of head cases. So I don't know, maybe
it was good that we got rid of it because
of it would have been way more crazy.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
It feels like we messed up on that one, since
you know, nobody's actually fallen in line here, like you know,
this is not exactly team the seal team six of
discipline you know.
Speaker 7 (24:18):
That was actually producing is the bigger issue. You know,
at least gave you some pretty good games sometimes. Yeah right,
I haven't had one of.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Those in a while.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
Amazingly, there remains a great deal to play for for
the Steelers, including a division championship. That fight commences in
Earnest this Sunday in Baltimore.
Speaker 9 (24:42):
We control our destiny. We gotta win. We got three
division games, two of them versus Baltimore next week and
the last week of the season. So it's a tough
place to play, and played there before during the COVID season.
So you got a great fan ba and be loud
and rocking, and we're gonna bring bring the right mindset.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
I just hope everybody for the Ravens is healthy because
anytime that we play a team that has crucial injuries,
we stink to join up. It's like, you know, I
equated it to the three to one lead in it's
the most dangerous lead in hockey for the Steelers to
face any team missing key components.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Yeah that.
Speaker 7 (25:25):
Uh now, Buffalo reacted to that in advance and just
threw it sideways and quickly. Josh Allen did nothing of
a superman nature other than run out of a few
sacks and.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Then late in the game he's gonna die. He just
ran the ball. He has no fear that dude. Seriously,
I was thinking, like, is he gonna make it through
this game? The amount of times.
Speaker 6 (25:49):
Hit when he slid, he got hit, Tom Patrick Queen
should have got There.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Was no flag either. It was crazy. Probably should have
got one for that.
Speaker 7 (25:55):
Buffalo's ability to run the ball without either of its
starting tackles is staggering.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Steelers with an all time stinker. Yesterday, they booed renegade.
They flip and booed renegade. Fire Mike Tomlin chance make
it onto the audio of the CBS broadcast.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Punt on first down. That's a chant that was going
around my section.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Yeah, it was not exactly the end of the Thanksgiving
holiday that Steeler fans were hoping for. They do get
to go to Baltimore and make it all right, But
the Ravens themselves are looking to get right and are
probably looking at this absolute mess of a Steelers team
as a get right game for.
Speaker 7 (26:37):
Them, probably thinking back to last January and thinking yet
same bunch.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Yeah, Well that's what all Steeler fans are thinking, and
that's why they're sick and tired of all of this.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
They've seen this fish too many times. I talked to
Norm Mardini last night. He said he's sick and tired
of being sick and tired.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
Now, this game, to me feels like whoever loses this game,
the bottom completely falls out and they collapse entirely and
fire their coach. Is Harbaugh getting this much Harbor has
been where Mike Tomlin is right now, and then salvaged it,
saved his job.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
There was a time, I want to say it was
pre covid that he was headed down the second half
of the season and he was sure to get fired
and turned the team around and they made the postseason
and I think made a small run in that postseason.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
Yeah, I can't remember what year that was, but I
definitely remember.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
He was getting guess he was gone, and they.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Turned it Lamar's rookie year, right So there Blaco started
and then they bench Flacco, brought in Lamar. What years
that or twenty eighteen? Okay, need a quarterback, you do
need a quarterback. And I'm not sure the Steelers have
one right now. All right, a quick break and we'll
come right back more with Rob King, Voice of the
Pittsburgh Steelers here.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
On your radio home of the Black Goal DVE.
Speaker 10 (27:58):
It's Max Stark's for my friends, Clearview Federal Credit Union.
Clearview is here to help you reach your financial goals
and support our community every step of the way.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
The Power Hour Steelers talk on the DV morning show Steelers.
Not a whole lot of power yesterday in that twenty
sixty seven loss to the Bills.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
You know, every time we have Rob King in here.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
For the Power Hour the day after a game, I
like to take one segment and just focus on a
call from the post game on the Steelers Audio network
that is helmed by our own Mike Pursuita. Of course,
he is the as he likes to say, bread in
the Steelers sandwich of the broadcast. Both the pre and
post game host a bleep sandwich less, no question about that.
(28:41):
This is from the the post game.
Speaker 11 (28:44):
I'm gonna make the short street. I'm a first time caller.
I just don't see any heart in Coach Tomlin anymore.
I don't know if it's eighteen years. I don't know
if there's something going on behind the scenes. I just
don't see the heart that I did fifteen years ago.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
I just.
Speaker 11 (29:04):
I'm at a lot of words because I've defended him
all my adult life and I just can't do it anymore.
I think we need to clean house. And honestly, let's
start Will Howard.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
I'm akay fan, aniste of the fan. Let's go all right,
take care of guys. Okay, Schrodinger's quarterback, Will Howard. That one.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
There was about five fire Tomlins last night, but that
one made the cut here because of the.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Will Howard reference. All right, so I did like did?
Speaker 7 (29:34):
He also talked about it was an observation, you know,
a body like the heart.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Yeah, it wasn't the typical.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
Narratives that everybody clings to that I think failed to
capture the spirit of this.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
No. I mean, Rob, do you do you glean anything
from Mike Tomlin's body language or lack thereof.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
No, I'm not trying to read that.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
I'm not trying to read the body language t leaves,
you know.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
I just know that this is the kind of game.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
And look, you know, the Bills had him in a
couple of weeks ago against the Dolphins. Dolphin just ran
all over him. It's you know, if you're to the
fan base, that's troubling, like you're looking for response. Well,
they didn't respond against Green Bay, they didn't respond against
the Bills. They did respond against the Bears. They made
that a game and even had a chance to tie
it late. I think that's I think when a team
(30:29):
starts rolling at you and and there is no response,
it looks like you don't care.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
You know what I mean, That's what it looks like.
You don't.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
You go three and out, you turn it over, you
go out on defense, you give them a four team
play drive.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Well, well's and then that's what games it looked like.
That's what it looks like. Postgame comments, you know. I
know Koboli wrote about this that his lack of venom
in response to his team's performance indicated a missed opportunity
for him to re establish that that's not okay. I
don't know how you watch Dealer football as long as
most Steeler fans have and and question Mike Tomlin's want
(31:05):
to win. I don't think that's ever in question, But
I do think there are lots of other questions to
be answered for coach t and.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
I'll tell you what too.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Like you know, everybody loves to see you know, the
the manager throws the bats out into the field because
he's mad about his team and calling guys out. But
you know what, people don't want to play for a
guy like that. You know, you know what I'm saying.
You don't want to play for guy that's calling out,
calling you out. Well, you know, hey, we'd have been
better if so and so. It made a couple of
(31:35):
tackles out there. I mean, you know, just and yelling
and screaming. You know, Chuck Nole was a was a
big believer that you know, you didn't have to yell
and scream. The motivation comes from within and these guys
are all you don't You don't get to this.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Level unless you're self motivated.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
And the biggest motivation I can only I could speak
for myself. You know, getting benched, right, you get benched,
You're like, wait a minute, now, hang on a second.
My motivation level is has been re kindled. If you
need that lack of playing time, that's a that's a motivator.
I don't think yelling and screaming that that only lasts.
I mean Listen. I've seen boxers get themselves all pumped
(32:10):
up in the corner and stuff, and then one Mike Tyson,
you know, blow and they're waking up in their locker
room fifteen minutes later, you know the dress.
Speaker 6 (32:16):
I have a counterpoint, though, like isn't don't Sometimes you
want your dad to get mad at you, like you've
screwed up. You don't want him to just skate by
like I screwed up. I want someone to yell at me,
Like I kind of feel like that's where that Yeah,
but there's also public and private. That's true, you know
what I mean. I mean, like you don't need to
criticize them. Yeah, you don't need to criticize your team
(32:37):
in public.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
You know. Chuck Nole, like you said, he didn't have
to yell.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
He could just insult you so so incisively, with such
razor sharp insight that it would send you into therapy
when you were done playing. But if Terry Bradshaw won't
come back to Pittsburgh because of how mean Chuck Nole was,
tam true, does the fact that Aaron Rodgers feels like
he needs to criticize in public or even a TJ.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Watt indicate that Tomlin isn't doing it in private. I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
I think Aaron Rodgers is Aaron Rodgers point, you know
what I mean. I mean it is a good question,
but I think Aaron Rodgers is Aaron Rodgers. You know,
he's he's a leader in a lot of different ways.
Like I was talking to James Pierre, I'm like, hey, man,
you know nice, what a nice season you've had. I
mean remember he was on the practice squad, you know,
(33:27):
and I was like, you know, is there anything that
kind of kept you going? And he's like yeah. Aaron
Rodgers is like, hey, I see you forty two. I
see what you're doing over there. And he was like yeah,
that kind of gave me like some pep. And I
think I think Aaron Rodgers can have that effect. You know,
if Aaron Rodgers calls you out, Now, if it keeps
happening and there's no response, then it becomes an issue.
(33:48):
But he has the cachet to either lift the guy
up or to call him out.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
I mean, he's got that. You know. You don't get that.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
If that's a rookie quarterback, someone's gonna say shut up,
you know. But if it's a guy who's going to
the Hall of Fame and who's really well liked and
really well respected by his teammates.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
That's when you can do that. He can he can
do that.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
Mike speaking on a show that we got real sick
of the Hey, that's okay, We'll go into the next
floor in a row. We're good everything. I'd rather hear
what Aaron had to say last night.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
Yeah, I have no problem with what Aaron Rodgers said,
But I want to get back to the original point though,
and the reason that you really wanted to use that
call the idea that Will Howard is an option.
Speaker 7 (34:31):
Yeah, he's just not ready. He got no preseason time.
He hasn't done this at this level. He's running the
other team's plays in practice.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Now.
Speaker 7 (34:40):
You know, if something should happen to Aaron Rodgers and
Mason Rudolph winds up starting again, then he's one heart
beat away from the presidency, And then why.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
Scott Skyler Thompson have been elevated to that role? He's
on IR That was for good. I didn't realize he
was out for the season with that. Okay, that's why.
But would he have been if he was healthy? I
would assume, all right, well that's an indictment of Will Howard.
It's my point.
Speaker 7 (35:07):
It's just I mean, it's it's neither an indictment or
an endorsement. He just got hurt and missed all the
preseason games.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
He hasn't taken a single snipe like Sunder Standards got
a lot of preseason snaps.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Will Howard hasn't taken a snap.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
Well, they talked about it when the injury happened, like,
this is a bummer for this guy. You know that
he wasn't able to take because that's what he's gonna
play in the preseason.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
I know it's a different situation, but because Ben Roethlisberger
obviously first round draft pick, But when Ben rookie year
gets plugged in, was everyone saying the same thing, like
he's not he didn't take enough snaps, he's not ready,
Like was the same narrative out there at that point?
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Was it an Alan fanica y long mine? Aren't you
excited about seeing the rookie? No, I'm not excited. I
want I want the guy that you know we signed
Tommy Maddicks to lead us to victory.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Yes, you know I remember that well, and that was.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Well, it also caused a little bit of a rift
between Big Ben and Red. It took them a little
while to get over that. And then thirteen straight wins.
I think they both were okay with it eventually, but
that was also very limited. He was throwing the ball
fifteen times a game. They were working half the field.
They dubbed it down bad choice of words. They simplified
(36:18):
it because Roethlisberger was a rookie.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
They knew they had a great defense at a great running game.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
Yeah, none of those they have neither, ye?
Speaker 2 (36:26):
No, yeah right.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Thanks to the Tim Benz and Jerry Dlak of course
Rob King for joining us here for the power hour
of Steeler talking.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Now it's on to Baltimore. Plus he's Ben Roethlisberger. Pick Yeah,
sixth round.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Yeah, number eleven overall was a number eleven little pedigree.
If you can't stop James Cook, how are you going
to stop Derrick Henry Well.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Cook's the number two rusher in the NFL. And they did,
by the way, they did stop Jonathan Taylor. Yes, it's true,
but this is a team that wants to run the football.
The Builds are a team that wants to run the football.
The culture a more balanced offensive attack. Even with Taylor,
it's gonna be They're gonna have to come up with something.
Speaker 6 (37:09):
I just if I'm if I'm Joey Porter, a grasp that,
if I'm anybody in that secondary that has to wrap
up Dereck Henry. I'm icing my shoulders now preemptively because
it's gonna height.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
They got to get him before he gets started. Yeah,
just something about him. Yeah, Jonathan Taylor still leading the league?
Is that possible right now after yesterday?
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Really? Yeah? Cook is still behind him? All right? Hey, yeah,
we did it once. I'm sure it'll be great. Thanks Randy.
It's still Steelers Ravens, Still Steelers Ravens. You can get
up for it.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Oh, in a big way, no doubt about it. Tomorrow
on the show, Charlie Batch Jean's territor. Well, at least
it won't have any fire. Mike Tomlin chance this weekend
Billy Gardell will join us tomorrow as well.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
That'll be a I don't know, I'm looking for a
positive here, Mike.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Uh, don't forget that Steelers Ravens game means nine am.
We start our pregame with Tom Offerman and Matt Williamson.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
Baby.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
So now you guys call me Ronald. Would you not
eat my pants? Ronald oh Man? Whay, go ahead.
Speaker 12 (38:41):
It's time for the Steelers Daily Report on DVE, brought
to you by First National Bank. Let's get started. Remember
fdi C at Steelers Pro Shop. Get it direct from
the team at shop dot Steelers dot com.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Here's Tom Offerman.
Speaker 13 (38:54):
The Steelers were blown out by the Bill Sunday at
Akroshur Stadium twenty six to seven, in a game where
they only gained one hundred and sixty six yards total
offense and lost the time of possession battle to Buffalo
forty one minutes and fifty nine seconds to eighteen oh one.
Pittsburgh actually had the lead coming out of halftime seven
to three, and started the second half of the game
with the ball, but on the very first play of
their possession, Bill's drusher Joey Boscha demolished Aaron Rodgers, knocking
(39:18):
the ball loose and Bill's corner Christian Benfort scooped it
up for the touchdown to give the Bills the lead,
and it all snowball downhill from there for the Steelers.
A massive factor in the Bill's success Sunday was their
rushing offense, which was the best in the league heading
into the game, and it showed. Buffalo gashed the Steelers
for a total of two hundred and forty nine yards
on the ground and an average of four point nine
yards per carry. Leading that way was running back James Cook,
(39:39):
who had his league leading seventh to one hundred yard
rushing performance on the season as he ran for one
hundred and forty four yards on thirty two carries against
the Steelers, and the Bills improved a six to one
on the year in the games that Cook eclipsed the one
hundred yards on the ground. The Steelers now tried to
bounce back from two straight losses as they traveled to
Baltimore to take on the six and six Ravens for
control of the AFC North Tom Opferman with the Steelers Report.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
At FNB. We rewrote the rules of banks
