Speaker 1 (00:21):
W DV E Pittsburgh and iHeartRadio station guaranteed human.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Help.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
It's bringing pressure, go over the middle. It is complete.
The dk metcap hurls aside.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
One defender stick part of another put into the end
zone for the Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Steelers touchdown whatever by dk.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Metcalp tossing Minka aside.
Speaker 6 (00:51):
And getting into the end zone.
Speaker 7 (00:53):
DK And that was the one that really felt like,
all right, we got this one now. Pittsburgh steel win
twenty eight to fifteen. I have to tell you, though,
I do not understand what the hell the Dolphins were
doing in the fourth quarter. That game felt a lot
closer at the end than it should have been. Uh
(01:14):
and had they actually been trying to hurry up and
save some clock and play like they had a chance
to win, they might have the way the Steelers defense
laid back in prevent there. It is the DV Morning
Show and Randy Bauman here along with Abby Prisoner Joe
Bartneck in studio with this too.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
In a lovely sweater this morning. You look nice and warm.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Oh thank you. I am very woman. I'm very happy
with the win. Less like could be any happier.
Speaker 7 (01:38):
Yeah, Well, and I do want to talk a little
Penguins with you later, because oh my god.
Speaker 6 (01:42):
I thought the game we're going to turn into a
Penguin game.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
In and there defense, I'm like, oh, dear Lord, can
I have one win this week?
Speaker 6 (01:50):
Yeah? One one win?
Speaker 7 (01:53):
You know that wasn't you know? A defeat? Yank from
the jaws of victory. There's no loser points in the NFL,
so I just wanted to.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
Get to it.
Speaker 7 (02:01):
Ended up at twenty two of twenty eight for two
hundred and fifty three yards two touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (02:06):
Last night.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
I didn't think he was that accurate. Aaron Rodgers twenty
three to twenty seven. Aaron Rodgers was brilliant last night
and Kenneth Gainwell dominating eighty yards last night on the
ground for Kenneth Gainwell, and he also had forty six
yards receiving. It was really the tail of the second half,
seven to three. At halftime, the Steelers get the ball
(02:29):
back and I've been bitching about this all year.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Come out running the ball, establish the run, don't be
in such a hurry to make a huge dent.
Speaker 6 (02:40):
And what do they do.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
They run the ball five straight times and they set
up that pass to DK touchdown.
Speaker 7 (02:46):
Boom, I'm about that. Yeah, they start rolling at that point, Michael.
Have more on that coming up, as the Steelers get
a much needed victory and go to eight and six
now and head to Detroit this coming Sunday, the Motors City,
which is not going to be an easy one, no doubt.
Hopefully the Steelers will get a little healthier Derek Harmon
(03:06):
and TJ Wantt not playing last night.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
You know, they pretty much kept eight Chan. I thought
it was I always called him ay chain.
Speaker 7 (03:13):
I thought everyone was calling him a chain, but e Chan,
they kept him somewhat at bay last night. He ended
up with sixty yards rushing sixty seven through the air.
It was scary at the beginning their first run. He
took off like a bat at a hell, Like, oh
my god. Yeah, he was so fast, and then they
kind of slowed down as the game went on, right, Yeah,
(03:33):
they I just don't understand the Dolphins' strategy at all.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
Last night.
Speaker 7 (03:38):
They stayed in there, and I think the cold actually
did get to Tua. Tua is really bad at at
He holds the ball way too long. He should have
thrown a couple more picks than he did. The Steelers
let a couple get away. He took sacks that he
did not need to take last night. So I don't
feel like, yeah, the Steelers are dominating. I feel like
they beat a bad quarterback and you know, sub freezing
(04:01):
temperatures last night, a guy who's not really used to
playing that there. I'm not gonna totally pooh pooh the win.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
But I'm also not going to think like, all right,
the Steelers are back.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
I think we're still, you know, a work in progress.
Speaker 7 (04:14):
And we get a w on Sunday that'll go a
long way towards making that Raiders game not or the
Ravens game rather not matter at the end of the year.
Right now, it is shaping up to look like that's
gonna be the game that's for the marbles.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
It was just fun to have offense. Randy just four touchdowns.
I would think when it was seventh three, like we
just can't ever enjoy a game. And then we scored
three more touchdowns. It's like, well, now I can enjoy
a game. I no doubt about it.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
Just the fact that they took that lead and went
up was it twenty eight to three at one point?
Speaker 6 (04:44):
Yes, you know, they did kind of lay back a
little more than I would have wanted it to with
that point. I gotta be honest with you.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
There was thirteen minutes left in the game after John
hu took that one in, and they've got to score
at that point. You know, they're twenty five points ahead.
You need basically, you know, three touchdowns in the field goal.
Speaker 5 (05:06):
It kind of felt like it was getting too close
for comfort for me. I gotta be honest, like, I know,
they never really had pursuit. Was gonna come in here
and go Yeah, they never They never were coming back.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
But I don't know.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
I just had PSD from the weekend, but I only
get that that might have been hit.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
But I just loved how we were throwing the ball downfield,
move down in the middle middle, you know, just not
oh it's third date, We're gonna throw four yards and
hope Gainwell falls forward four yards.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
It was actually what we had a passing attack last night.
Speaker 7 (05:42):
Yeah, And Aaron Rodgers was really methodical. I mean, that
was really his game last night.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
He was really good at twenty three or twenty seven,
like we said, a couple of touchdowns and just kind
of directing the offense around.
Speaker 7 (05:53):
And I thought that Arthur Smith dialed up a nice
one last night. Nice balance, Abby, a nice balance.
Speaker 8 (06:00):
Talents and Aaron being busted up with a bad wrist
and still looking at elite like that.
Speaker 9 (06:05):
At his age, at his age.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
And this this economy come on.
Speaker 7 (06:10):
He also helped them keep the time of possession on
the Steelers side, and this was one that always, you know,
pisses me off every week, and they did really well.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
Thirty three thirty three.
Speaker 7 (06:23):
Time position of twenty six twenty seven for the Dolphins
Steelers with a big win in freezing cold temperatures. And
kudos to those fans who toughed it out last night. Absolutely,
my god. I mean, if I didn't have to work today,
I would have thought about doing something like that.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
But yeah, I don't know. I got invited.
Speaker 9 (06:42):
I said no pretty fast.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
My toes are cold.
Speaker 9 (06:47):
I told you once. My toes are cold. I am inconsolable.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
Yeah, and it was cold last night. And Mike Big Daniel.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
I keep rooting for him because I think he's a
fun story in the NFL. I do, But I don't
know how they're going to keep that guy. Trey Aigman
doesn't want them to keep him. No, I like how
Troy goes, well, they just kind of gave up.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
He did.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
He said that flag.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
Yeah, He's like, well, they're tired, they won five in
a row, they feel good about themselves.
Speaker 6 (07:15):
They're done.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Yeah, but Troy's gotten really good. I don't know what happened.
He hit the I don't give an F button a
long time ago, and it's it's made him so much
better at that job.
Speaker 7 (07:25):
Michael, have more for you. Tim Ben's joining us early.
Gene's sterotor will also weigh in on some of the
calls from last night. I don't know, was there anything
super egregious in the last night's game.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
Not really.
Speaker 8 (07:38):
I mean, Johnny Smith got a penalty that I wrote down,
but he deserved it.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (07:43):
That's that the rest are too cold to throw flags,
although there was a couple of.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Them last night the benefit of the Steelers. I didn't think.
Speaker 7 (07:53):
It unnecessary or unfortunately conduct on the Dolphins that extended
that one drive for the Steelers. By the way, Steelers
have to punt there. Again, it was too close for
comfort for me when you were up twenty three.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
But if Steelers have to punt there, if the Dolphins
decided to care, they had time.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
But that was.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
That was the one.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
Once they got that first.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Down, it was like, all right, yeah, well I thought
uh Porter was handsy as usual, but they didn't call it.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
The one that was in the game was like seven
to three.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
I'm like, they're gonna They didn't call a lot of
holding last night on the offensive line either, so you know,
defensive holding, offensive line holding.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
I think they were just too cold to throw flags
last night.
Speaker 9 (08:31):
We're warming each other up.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
Abbey's got a news update. What's going on?
Speaker 10 (08:35):
New?
Speaker 9 (08:35):
Is this hour brought to you by your neighborhood Ford Store.
Speaker 8 (08:37):
Intervals of clouds and sun and I have thirty seven today.
The current temperature is sixteen degrees So when will the
temperatures begin to warm up?
Speaker 9 (08:47):
Thankfully, warmer weather is on the way.
Speaker 8 (08:49):
Tuesday's high today, as I said, thirty seven. But Wednesday
it sounds like we're gonna get up to forty two degrees.
Thursday is going to be in the low fifties, and
we'll have some showers, so now we'll get like, you know,
nice soupy wet leftover.
Speaker 9 (09:05):
No, we love that.
Speaker 8 (09:09):
Although the forecast is encouraging, multiple warming centers are open
in Pittsburgh today. That starts at eight am goes until
seven pm. Those are located at those healthy Active living
community centers in Beachview, Greenfield, Homewood, Sheridan.
Speaker 9 (09:24):
And south Side.
Speaker 8 (09:26):
All Right, we are going to get you updated here
on the Rob Reiner Michelle Singer story. Nick Reiner, son
of Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer. Reiner was arrested and
booked on suspicion of murdering his parents, who were found
stabbed in their Los Angeles area home. Nick is in
custody without bail. But this is the wild part of
(09:48):
the story that's been circulating. The night before Rob and
his wife Michelle were found, apparently they got into this
very loud public argum at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party.
Speaker 9 (10:02):
Did you see this?
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (10:04):
So, sources say that after the argument, which a lot
of people heard, Rob and Michelle left the party, and
people say that Nick's overall vibe a the party was
very creepy. Family sources told TMZ that Michelle had been
telling friends over the last few months that she and
Rob were at their wits end over Nick's mental illness
and drug abuse issues because they quote had tried everything.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Yeah, it's terrible.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
I mean, it really apparently he was like making a
spectacle of the party. And I read one story that
said he was running up to all of these people
at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
Going are you famous? Are you famous?
Speaker 7 (10:40):
Like you know to Martin Short, you know, like the
dude was clearly not well, and I just I feel
bad for everybody involved with that one. It's the more
you read, the harder it was to comprehend that any
of that went down.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
Nine different stories underneath it on the post just like
it's just insane.
Speaker 6 (10:59):
It's so so sad, so sad. Imagine like the two
other the brother and the sister, like.
Speaker 7 (11:05):
And the sister knew sister, their daughter found Rob and
his wife and she told the police, it's my brother.
He's dangerous, like they she knew immediately what had happened.
I mean, he must have been that spun out. And
it's really weird to watch the interviews that Rob did
with Nick for the movie Charlie's Something.
Speaker 6 (11:26):
I can't remember what it was called now, but Nick
wrote a movie about his rehab experiences, and.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
Rob directed it and pushed it out into the world
for his son, so that he, you know, could maybe
get a start.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
You know, nepotism. You know what they say about nepotism.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
It opens the door, but it doesn't keep you employed,
right right, Well, he just you know, the poor kid
couldn't get a foothold in the business. When I say
poor kid, because I think I mean that that kid
had to be completely tortured to do what he did.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
And I read another thing about the rehabs that the
celebrities send their kids to, and he went to twenty rehabs.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
Oh my god, twenty And it's not like in Malibu.
They don't send them to those, like the big thing
in the celebrity world. Chet Hanks had talked about this.
They send them to these places in Utah where they
get absolutely tortured. And there's people trying to expose all
of these rehab centers that you know, the rich people
(12:29):
send their kids to, like oh they're spoiled. Well, now
they're really going to learn and it does it just
incalculable damage to them because they, like chet Hanks was
thrown out into the wild like sleeping outside, no tent
and was completely just tortured at a young age. And
then they tell the parents something completely different is.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
Going on and what's really going on that's different than
what I know because I know a bunch of people
that do the Malibu thing.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
That's different.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
The Malibu thing is like I know a lot of
people have done that, and that's what that's in my act.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
And I said, going to rehab, I have a pool.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Yeah right, No, I mean seriously, And I know and
I know a couple guys have made great livings being
sober coaches. And you just go on vacation with people
to make sure they like, don't do heroin.
Speaker 7 (13:13):
Yeah, which I would love that job. Yeah, it's a
great gig. No, it's not too bad. Yeah, you just
have to be cool, right Yeah, but yeah, just unspeakable tragedy.
That the thing I hate about it, you know, on
top of everything, there's so many things and I like
about it, But when you think of Rob Reiner, now
this is what's gonna come into your mind before all
(13:35):
of the great movies, and every time you watch one
of those movies, you're gonna think about it.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
It's like a thing where he's had three just incredible
things that he did. Meathead first of all, if he
just did Meathead and then he you never saw him again. Incredible, agreed,
and then he basically greenlit Seinfeld.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
He did is his production company? Oh I didn't, He's
Castle Rock.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Yeah, Okay, Yeah, they're like he liked that show and
that he kept it going. So I mean probably other
than like Warner Brothers, Bugs, Bundy Cartoons, the most things
I've ever watched in my life. And then you know,
he's like nine movies he directed, which is like he
has three different things that is greater than almost anybody's
like where they maybe best supporting actor, right Hide, the
(14:19):
best sitcom maybe ever, and then maybe the best run
up directing of the maybe Scorsese, Yes, anyone's ever had. Yeah,
people talked about that triple threat producer, director, actor, and
he was great at all of them. Yeah, And it
was fun like when he would pop up in TV shows,
he would always be very very funny, you know, like
he was in The New Girl, he was in The Bear.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
The Wolf of Wall Street. He like he didn steal
the movie.
Speaker 5 (14:47):
But I mean, you know, because he was only in
a little bit every cne and he's in he was hilarious.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
It's just.
Speaker 7 (14:55):
I mean the more time sort of went on yesterday
and he kept rating about it. The more unthinkable at all.
Was It's just and everybody I talked to was like, God,
I can't believe you know, like it's affecting everybody it is.
Speaker 8 (15:08):
I mean, you've made a good comparison yesterday to like
Phil Harmon the way you were saying, like, no matter what,
with this person's incredible talent and the legacy essentially of
their career, no matter what, you're just always going to
think of just such a preventable and tragic Yeah, and.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
Like Kobe, yeah, yeah, the first thing you think of now, yeah,
but at least that was an accident. Oh yeah, I'm
not Yeah, I know, we're not trying to compare, like, well,
that wasn't that tragic?
Speaker 8 (15:43):
By the way, on that you just saw also that
Billy Crystal and Larry David went and visited.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
Yeah, Billy Crystal was the first person there apparently after
Romy called so he like saw it, saw the crime scene.
Just imagine like how Conin O'Brien feels not to you know,
that'sn't like do you see the fight at your house?
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (16:05):
Yeah, but also this kid had had outbursts at restaurants
in LA and stuff like this has been ongoing. It
wasn't just that was that was one of many explosions
this kid has been having recently.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
I say kid, but he was in his thirties.
Speaker 8 (16:21):
No, but also as a parent, you know when somebody's
kind of like a failure to launch kind of thing.
That is a kind of characterization I think you would
have when you're talking about those rehab places though, Like,
are you kind of saying that the ones that are
more remote and less Malibu. Are you just saying they
were more like boot camp like board schools.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Yes, there's a whole movement to expose those places.
Speaker 9 (16:44):
And I thought the one.
Speaker 8 (16:46):
Like Paris Hilton was talking about, like remember she had
like a few years ago, she had this whole storyline
that was going that basically said that when she was young,
she was disturbed and they sent her to some kind
of like boarding school that was highly traumatic, and it
was kind of what you're talking.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Yeah, I mean it might have been. It was pretty
in vogue in Hollywood for a while. Wow, Oh your
spoiled kid, We're going to do something that will psychologically
screw with you for the rest of your life.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
And parents think they're doing something good. You gotta be
messed up. It's like Vito's kid in Sopranos, Remember they
did it to him.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
Yeah, but Vito's Veto and you know he's a gangster,
and you.
Speaker 6 (17:31):
Know Rob Ryaner.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
I mean, the kid could have just been quiet and
walked around the sets and lived a great life, you know,
I mean like he really, I mean, like to be
handed that kind of life and just do that. Oh yeah, God,
it's disturbed. I don't know that it's a choice. I
don't know. I just can't believe it's something that a
person is capable of screwing up that bad. I can't
(17:52):
believe someone would do that to their parents, That's what
I'm saying. Yeah, I mean, it's like it's terrible. All right,
let's talk about something less absolutely heartbreaking.
Speaker 8 (18:01):
Well, because we're up against it, I'll talk about the
same intervals and clouds and sun today and is I
have thirty seven.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
Joe Bartneck hanging in studio with us, Michae will be
in with your sports Mike. I mean again, yeomen's work
from Mike here, as he has pulled the basically an
all night or doing the postgame show on the Steelers
Audio Network, which probably didn't get started until I don't know,
eleven thirty, maybe a little bit later.
Speaker 8 (18:29):
Last night, so I think he says the postgame goes
until like two ooh.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
So he got a couple hours sleep down in the
streets at the Hampton End and he'll be in with
your sports here in just a little bit. Steelers over
the Dolphins last night and a much needed victory twenty
eight point fifteen. And now it's ont Detroit DV. Hey,
it's Randy from the DV morning show. The holidays are
here and this time of year is all about connecting
(18:54):
with families and loved ones.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
And did you know that.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
For older only continues to dominate on Monday day and night.
And Steelers over the Dolphins last night twenty eight fifteen.
Mike Persuda with your sports here on your radio, home
of the Black and Gold, DVE.
Speaker 11 (19:08):
Sports brought to you by Bridgeville Applied. The Steelers badly
needed a victory over the Dolphins last night. That was
job number one, but second on the list and not
very far behind. Job one was achieving victory in the
way they needed to do it and twenty eight fifteen,
and as it turns out, they checked both boxes.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
Man, we love Monday night football. Mission accomplished.
Speaker 12 (19:35):
Certainly we wanted the Engineer victory, but we wanted to
do it in a certain way. That was a high
football team and they had rode the run game over
the last month, so I think they had averaged one
ninety two a game over the last five weeks, and
so we needed to stop the run, and certainly we
need to run the ball in the effort to flip
that component of it. And I think that made the
Engineer and a victory more fluid.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
That it did.
Speaker 11 (19:58):
The Steelers out rushed the Dolphins one thirty five to
sixty three. That's the Steelers team that hasn't really run
the ball consistently all season and a Miami team that
came in averaging one hundred and ninety two yards a
game on the ground during what had been a four
game winning streak. And when you run the ball, you
control the tempo and you also control the clock. It
(20:21):
was not lost on Aaron Rodgers how important it was
to win time of possession.
Speaker 13 (20:26):
The big stat that's been killing us a lot of
the season is the time possession. And today we had
quadruple fours, so three sorry, quadruple threes. So you know,
obviously up by six and change in that department, which
was really important.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Yeah, no doubt about it.
Speaker 7 (20:46):
And he was much better, although there were some times
where I thought towards the end of the game where
he could have led even a little more off the clock,
but he seemed cognizant of it. You know, they weren't
snapping the ball with twenty seconds left on the play clock.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
I think they were all cognizant of it.
Speaker 14 (20:59):
You know.
Speaker 11 (21:00):
Colleague Matt Williamson's been harping on this since mid season.
They have been out possessed and out offensive played every game.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
Going into last night.
Speaker 11 (21:08):
I think there was one where they ran the same
number of plays, but that's that was the most non
sustainable thing they had going And Jerry Dulac talked about.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
It this week on our show last week. What was
he on yesterday Monday?
Speaker 11 (21:23):
Yeah, basically the defense had played three more games than
the offense, and he just you can't have that, right.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
Guys are going to start getting hurt. Guys are already
getting hurt, right, especially No TJ No Derek harmon last night.
Speaker 11 (21:36):
And they needed to do it the way they needed
to do it, and for them to be able to
pull that off highly encouraging, as Rogers mentioned, triple quadruple threes,
thirty three minutes, thirty three seconds of possession, and the
Steelers ran sixty two offensive plays to Miami's forty eight.
(21:57):
And it would have been way more lopsided.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
Uh had the.
Speaker 11 (22:00):
Steelers not just completely taking their foot off the gas
defensively in the fourth quarter when they really did. And uh,
but you know what, they're tired. Yeah, they had a
chance to, so they did. I got no I got
no problems. That game was never in jeopardy.
Speaker 7 (22:14):
It looked like there was a conscious decision from the
Steelers defense there to we won. Yes, it just let's
play some pre event, let's bleed the clock.
Speaker 11 (22:24):
But they also got to think a crappy spot on
a third down play to Warren where replay assists said
he didn't make it.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
He didn't. I thought he did.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
Now they freeze they freezed it. It was like it
was they got it right. Okay, yeah, thank god.
Speaker 11 (22:41):
You know, thank god in a blowout game, somebody was
watching from two states away and moved the ball five freakings.
I'm so happy with the way the NFL is running
its product.
Speaker 7 (22:53):
But I will say a man as as Joe Barnik
was pointing out earlier, Aikman was absolutely destroying McDaniel for
the way that they operated when they were down twenty three.
Speaker 6 (23:04):
There's thirteen minutes left in the game.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
It's very unlikely, but they had a complete lack of
given f and then they score, and then they acted like, well,
you know what, Jesus, if we try, gosh, maybe there
is a chance.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
I mean they're calling time outs at the end of
the game. Yeah, wait, which is it? Which is it?
Did you give up? Or are you trying on side kicks?
Which is it?
Speaker 11 (23:28):
Miami's performance may inspire another nerd boy reference from Rex Ryan.
If he's on top, oh, he's gonna crush him.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
I will say this, though their defense was hitting the
beginning of that game. You could hear the pops and
our running backs like they were into a brick wall.
Speaker 7 (23:46):
Jalen Warren took some major hits last night. I mean Gainwell,
by the way, Gainwell, what a game for him. But
they both took hits, but Jalen Warren in particular, coming
in sick, I had to think, Man, if there's any
dude who's ready to go to bed right now, having
the flu and going out there and getting rocked like
that could not have felt good.
Speaker 11 (24:04):
Yeah, our colleague Missy Matthews. Texting media for the postgame
show last night from the locker room, Warren said that
was the most difficult game he ever had to play,
and he just wanted to go home and sleep for
a day.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Yeah, which he can do today.
Speaker 11 (24:16):
Yes, And you know he still ended up with over
one hundred total yards one hundred and two total yards,
counting fifty four on kickoff returns. But to your point, game, well,
the player of the game thirteen carries eighty yards and
that thirty eight yard run when he smashed the tackle
huge in the third court. That kind of loosened things
up and led to that second touchdown.
Speaker 6 (24:38):
You know, they got a touchdown at the end of
the first half.
Speaker 11 (24:40):
Yeah, it's the start of the second half, and teams
think that's really big when they can.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
Eat it is really big.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
But they the way they did it, Mike, they came
out running the ball. It's almost like good things happen
when you stick with the run. They ran it.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
All the way down the field and then a play
action touchdown, you know, the first play of the game.
Speaker 11 (25:00):
And I was wondering how they were gonna approach this
because we've all been cognizant at the time of possession
problem and you know, the not running as many offensive
plays problem, but there's also been a scoring points problem
in time. So you know, sometimes you have to Sarrey,
we got to get points and then worry about style
points later. But again, that time of possession thing wasn't
(25:22):
gonna fix itself, and it wasn't gonna go away unless
they made it go away. And the first play of
the game, Theeland was running down the scene one on one.
He was behind this guy and Rogers threw a checkdown
to Johnny Smith for two yards and I thought, okay,
here we go again. You know, they had success attack.
They woke up in Baltimore in an aggressive posture and
(25:43):
they were impressive coming out of bed. And here we
go starting with the checkdowns first play of the game.
But they had they had in mind how they wanted
this game to go, and they made it go that way.
Speaker 7 (25:54):
Yeah, And you know, it was until I think the
first touchdown at the end of the first half before
they had converted a third down. They converted three fourth
downs I think before that, so they were being aggressive.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
They weren't living in their fears, and that's what you
have to do.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
I mean, that's what they had to do because they
had to win that game last night. They had to
win that game because what you want to do is
force a scenario where the Ravens game doesn't matter, and
if the Ravens lose to the Patriots, you can make
that happen the Steelers. With a win in Detroit and
a win against the Browns, it's over.
Speaker 6 (26:29):
If Baltimore loses one.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Ye, if Baltimore and the Patriots is probably it's a
Saturday night game. That's probably the most likely place for
them to lose. Well, they got to play Green Bay too,
who don't have Micae Parsons.
Speaker 11 (26:42):
Okay, they'll still show up, Yeah, still pretty good and
say it's a win.
Speaker 6 (26:46):
I'm just pointing that out.
Speaker 11 (26:47):
But dayah, that would be ideal if they could get
to Baltimore without having that game matter.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
A couple of more injuries last night.
Speaker 11 (26:54):
According to Mike Tomlin, Isaac Sayamalu tricept didn't finish.
Speaker 6 (26:59):
Nick herbig ham strength didn't fin ooh and that one.
Speaker 11 (27:05):
I mean offensive line think's not ideal. But we're starting
to run out of edge guys all of a sudden, Shit,
well soon TJ.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
Watt, Yeah, that's not great.
Speaker 11 (27:17):
Mike Thomas said last night in the post game that
he's sure that what he was in contact with Wat
yesterday and he's sure Wat is excited about getting around
his teammates again sooner rather than later.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
So he's not even around the teammates.
Speaker 11 (27:30):
He didn't say that would be playing with his teammates.
He just said being around a big difference between being
on the south side and being out on the field.
Speaker 6 (27:38):
But we shall see.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
We'll bring Tim Bens into the fray here after the

for me.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Rodger's back fires.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Over the middle high DK metcalf wide, opening a crossing
pattern right to left and in the Dolphins territory for
twenty two yards to the forty nine yard line.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
That wasn't the playlin I played that line. I wanted
to touchdown and welcome home Mica. Yes, I wanted this one.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
It's bringing pressure throw over the middle. It is complete.
The DK metcalp pearls aside one defender stick Harmon and.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Other in the end zone for the Pittsburgh Steelers touchdown.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
What an effort by DK metcalf.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
The fact that that was Menca, that was special. And
I got nothing against maca. Don't get me wrong. I
got nothing against.
Speaker 9 (29:40):
Macall last night I did.
Speaker 7 (29:42):
Yeah, Tim Benz brought to you by Don's Appliances where
Pittsburgh shops were appliances. Benzi, Uh, that was the offensive
effort we've been waiting for from the Steelers. In terms
of time of possession thirty three thirty three for your
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 16 (29:59):
Yeah, that was a point I made on a number
of occasions throughout the course of the week lead up
to this game. The Steelers had to stay in the
field and get off the field, as simple as that sounds.
That was their biggest problem going into the game is
that they had the worst play differential in all of
football by I believe minus one hundred snaps. And when
(30:20):
they came to their defense being on the field, they
had played a you know, significantly more or significantly greater
amount of plays than anybody else in the NFL.
Speaker 17 (30:30):
So time of possession was huge.
Speaker 16 (30:33):
The difference in plays between the two teams narrowing that
gap was huge, and shockingly enough, I did not make
an effort to go over to the Dolphins locker room
to get mink in to comment on that play from
DK Metcalf afterwards, I kind of just let the play
sit there on its own.
Speaker 7 (30:47):
Yeah, with the injuries that they suffered last night, I
wondered what they were going to be able to do defensively.
It was kind of a combination of, you know, they
shut down where they needed to, and also, Tua is
just bad. Tua is really really bad, and he put
them in worse and worse situation. He made bad things
(31:09):
worse for the Dolphins last year.
Speaker 11 (31:10):
I can't believe what his numbers ended up, because if
you just look at the stats, you think this guy
can play.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
It was twenty two to twenty eight or something like that.
But he was terrible.
Speaker 16 (31:18):
Yeah, I felt the same way I wrote about that
this morning. There's a lot of empty calories in his
statistical breakdown from last night.
Speaker 17 (31:28):
I mean, as as.
Speaker 16 (31:31):
Much as you can look at those and roll your
eyes and say, how did he get to those numbers?
If you looked at them, even going into the.
Speaker 17 (31:39):
First possession of the fourth quarter.
Speaker 16 (31:42):
They sort of told the story more about how poor of.
Speaker 17 (31:45):
A game he had.
Speaker 16 (31:47):
But yeah, I mean, passer rating can lie to you.
Total yards for a quarterback and a loss just about
any time can lie to you. But if you just
watched him play, it was ugh the whole night. I mean,
running around in the backfield, throws that had no prayer,
trying to keep plays alive when he should have just
thrown the ball away when he took sacks. How he
(32:10):
took sacks, I don't know why they didn't just give
the ball to Echen more, try to involve him the
short passing game if they had to, if they felt
like they couldn't run, because I think there was more
there to be had from him if you're Miami, and
there was definitely not more to be had from Tua.
They used him too much as it was. And just
(32:31):
looking up the final numbers, Yeah, twenty two of twenty
eight two point fifty three, averaging nine yards per throw,
but sacked four times, a passer rating of one thirteen.
Speaker 17 (32:41):
Most of that looks presentable. It was not presentable. He
was not good.
Speaker 7 (32:45):
He was not good, and I don't understand what they
were doing in the second and half. I know, Mike,
you said that game was never in jeopardy for the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
Twenty three was over.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
But they didn't even they didn't dry and then they did, Uh,
you know what, let's try it outside kick. Let's call
some timeouts here at the end of the game. Prior
to that, they were they weren't in a hurry up.
They weren't going no huddle. They were just as Troy
Aikman said, waving the white flag.
Speaker 17 (33:16):
Yeah, I thought.
Speaker 16 (33:17):
I didn't realize he had said that until after the game,
but I was thinking it while I was watching it.
Speaker 17 (33:24):
Yeah, how could you not through my head? I can
tell you that much.
Speaker 16 (33:28):
And you know they if they were trying, they would
have involved their running back more. And another guy who
was just absolutely absent for them was Jayalen Waddle. He
only had two catches in twenty six yards. Uh, so
you know, kudos to the Steelers for minimizing his impact.
I know the tight ends got loose, but you know
(33:48):
there's like a twenty nine yard catch again empty calories
from the backup tight end. Waller had the two touchdowns.
His stat line looks more impactful than what it really was.
All in all, I thought the Steelers defense played well
enough and was a good enough version of itself, especially
without Harmon and Watt.
Speaker 17 (34:07):
You consider those two guys in their absence.
Speaker 16 (34:10):
That was a pretty good effort from them, and a
real good effort from Rogers when it came to using
the middle of the field for a change, some of
his passing numbers over the middle of the field.
Speaker 17 (34:22):
It makes you wonder why they.
Speaker 16 (34:23):
Haven't done that more often in the past, doesn't it,
Because we've all been begging for it and it was there.
And they got some good contributions from new guys too,
like Samuel led the lone turnover of the game with
the interception, MBS caught a touchdown pass. Kenneth Gainwell knew
the team this year. He was really good again with
eighty yards rushing in one hundred assuming forty six yards receiving,
(34:47):
and of course metcalf at the big game as well,
and that was a great play that you guys played
coming back and had another big catch over the middle
too for a big gain in the game. So there
was a lot to like yesterday and now both teams
in the.
Speaker 17 (35:01):
North basically control their fate.
Speaker 16 (35:03):
You know, if one team wins out, they win it.
If the other team wins out, they win it. It's
probably all going to come down to that game against
each other on what is that January the fourth or
fourth or whatever it's going to be, you know, depending well,
it depends on what they do with the flex scheduling.
Speaker 17 (35:19):
But yeah, that last.
Speaker 7 (35:20):
Weekend, Yeah, you know you mentioned Santa Samuel, who's played
last night because James Pierre was out. It seemed like
some of the bad sacks the two was taken because
the secondary was pretty solid last night. Second half seemed
like there was just some prevent zone coverages that they
were allowing some big tracks of land to remain open.
(35:41):
But when they wanted to keep to uh from finding anybody,
whether there was anybody open or not, and who knows
what two if you would have found them pretty good
in Pierre's stead.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
For Samuel to step up like that last night.
Speaker 16 (35:55):
Yeah, there's a nice interception for him to get. As
he told me afterwards. You know, he grew up twenty
five minutes from hard Rock Stadium, so everybody he knows
as a Dolphin fan.
Speaker 17 (36:06):
He said his whole family was watching.
Speaker 16 (36:08):
And for him to get a pick with everybody watching
him Monday Night football as Dolphins fans, that.
Speaker 17 (36:12):
Meant a lot to him, so he was pretty happy
about that.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
Afterwards, he had me happy with the quarterback and Arthur
Smith last night.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
I mean the offense.
Speaker 7 (36:18):
I think that for the first time I would describe
it as methodical, particularly the way they came out in
the third quarter.
Speaker 16 (36:27):
The third quarter against Buffalo was as bad of a
quarter of football that I've seen them play since that
twenty twenty COVID game against the Browns when they opened
up twenty eight nothing down against Cleveland in front of
fourteen people in the stands. That was as depressing and
down of the fifteen minutes of football as you could
ever see. But the Buffalo third quarter threatened that. Last
(36:50):
night was the complete opposite. They dominated in the third quarter.
I think Miami wound up with minus twenty yards in
the third quarter and Pittsburgh had two touchdowns on the board.
I think one hundred and sixty three yards of offense.
That was the ultimate switch in they were on the
field and the Dolphins were not.
Speaker 17 (37:11):
They possessed the ball and the Dolphins did not.
Speaker 16 (37:13):
I think they had the ball for eleven of the
fifteen minutes of that third quarter. That's two games in
a row after having the epitome of how batt it
was against the Bills for them to have played at
least well offensively in the third quarter. That was the
case in Baltimore, it was the case last night. And
then the defense matched the effort last night as well
(37:35):
and got the Dolphins off the field with two third
down sacks. Like you know, we always talked about what
did the sacks really mean for the Steelers when sometimes
they get first or second down sacks and then they
allowed a third and eighteen. Anyway, well, they got the
sacks on third down. Ramsey had one that I'm struggling
to remember who had the other one. It might have
been Camp. It might have been Cam Hayward that had
(37:56):
the other.
Speaker 6 (37:57):
One in that time in the second half.
Speaker 16 (37:59):
Yeah, yeah, whatever the case was, that the sacks did
the job. They got the punt unit on the field,
and that's when you're supposed to get it done and
pure pass our situations, even without want.
Speaker 5 (38:11):
Tim Man's brought to you by Don's Appliances, where Pittsburgh
shops for appliances. This morning on your radio home of
the Steelers. Dv Ethanks Penzi. You got it, guys, Abby's
got your news coming up when we return.
Speaker 8 (38:21):
The new relationship killer is the swag Gap.
Speaker 7 (38:25):
Joe Bartnick Liven Studio with us this morning and Jeans
Terator coming up.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Seven forty five. It's game day and Don's Appliances has
your back.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Get your kitchen or tailgate party guaranteed.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
Human poor man.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Rush for the students to a back pressure coming man.
Tim Hayward with the sack and it is his first sacks.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
It's October sixteenth that Cincinnati Hayward has been all over
the field.
Speaker 6 (38:58):
Big defensive man for the last last night, Cam Hayward.
Speaker 7 (39:01):
They needed to step up with the injuries they had
on the defensive line Derek Harmon and also having Teacher
Watt out of that game meant you needed the big
guys to step up who were still there, Cam one
of them. The Dolphins were just a bad football team.
Steelers emerge victorious twenty eight to fifteen. They did all
of the right things. So I'm not gonna try to
(39:23):
nitpick right now. You won a game you were supposed
to win, and you did it handily. And as a
Steeler fan, I appreciated that I didn't have cortisol shooting
through my veins right up until the time expired, and
then had to try to go to sleep. I actually
I think by eleven thirty I was asleep. That's pretty
(39:43):
damn good for a Monday night football that.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
Yeah, I went to bed probably about one, but I
was relaxed.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
Yeah, we won the game easily.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
I was just thinking, you know, when do we ever
just get to enjoy I think it's all about having
an offense. You can never enjoy a game when you're
just one bad turnover away from losing, right and that
game we were three or four bad turnovers away from
losing at the end. So it was fun.
Speaker 7 (40:08):
Twenty two first downs for the Steelers last night to
Miami sixteen. They were only four of thirteen on third down,
but they were three of three on fourth downs last night,
And as Mike said earlier, total play sixty two to
forty eight. And that was a disparity that had been
going the other way for the Steelers for a long time,
so much so that it was shaping up for the
defense to play like three whole more games than the offense.
(40:30):
They turned that around last night. I don't think Miami
is a very good football team, but I think that
they've got enough weapons that they could have made that
a much different looking game, particularly in the first half.
The Steelers hung in there, and Joe, as you've pointed out,
the Dolphins were physical last night.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
They were hitting. I've never seen warn look like he
ran into a break. He looked like Wiley Coyote, like
hitting the wall boo, like it'd be third and two
and you're like, oh, we got He's stuck, Like that's it.
Speaker 7 (41:02):
There's there were a few plays where he held onto
the ball where I thought, I don't know how he
did that. Calvin Austin on that one punch, I don't
know how he held onto that one. So the Dolphins
definitely came in last night with the mission to play.
They knew they were playing against the Steelers in Pittsburgh
frigid temperatures, So kudos to them for bringing it physically.
But I just think their quarterbacks in an absolute mess. Also,
(41:25):
I don't know why they I think they should have
just stuck with the run. The lack of patients people
have with the run, live to fight another day, punt
and run the ball again. When the Steelers did that
to come out in the third quarter last night. Five
consecutive runs.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
Nice play action, Scantlon wide open for the touchdown.
Speaker 6 (41:45):
That's how you do it, Steeler football.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Yeah, I mean being be of Miami run. Though that
guy was running like he was angry. He's very good.
I mean, like we had other than the one Herbeck's arm,
the guy could still be running.
Speaker 7 (41:58):
Yeah, herbig maybe with the tackle of the night there
in the first quarter season Yeah, I mean while he's
on the ground, just lifts up his arm and trips
up eight chan enough to keep him from going very
far because he had daylight ahead of him. Good crowd
for the Steelers fans last night. I gotta say, no booing.
Speaker 6 (42:16):
Renegade. It's back, It's fun. Renegade is back. We love
Renegade again. We love Renegade.
Speaker 9 (42:22):
Renegade is the best.
Speaker 7 (42:24):
We love the Renegade. Steelers twenty eight, Dolphins fifteen. That
they're eight and six now and headed Detroit. If they
could beat Detroit and the Browns, it's over. The Ravens
game doesn't matter. I don't know that that's gonna happen
if the Ravens lose one. That is to say, and
they've got to face the Patriots and Green Bay and Joe,
(42:45):
you think.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
They're losing both. I definitely think they're losing both. I mean,
Cincinnati laid down. They didn't in that game, and the
Pats are going to be mad. They look like the
Penguins this weekend. They blew a twenty one nothing lead.
The that game was nuts. That Buffalo gay he was.
Speaker 6 (43:02):
And then Denver, Denver looks great. Denver rattle left is
a ten in a row?
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Name one now?
Speaker 7 (43:07):
Yeah, all right, well more to come. Jean's territory will
join us too. And a recap of last night's Monday
Night win. A nice one for the Steelers. It feels
good going into the holiday year.
Speaker 6 (43:16):
Abby were too.
Speaker 9 (43:18):
Love seeing Aaron Rodgers happy.
Speaker 7 (43:19):
Oh it really did warm my heart. Oh he's talking
trash on the sidelines last night. And a good night
for Aaron Rodgers and your Pittsburgh Steelers. Twenty three or
twenty seven, two and twenty four yards, a couple of touchdowns,
He got sacked a couple of times where I thought
you could have got rid of him. There was a
first down waiting gainwell, just sitting there and Aaron Rodgers
(43:40):
was looking for something a whole lot bigger on a
third and three in the second half. The drive in
the first half, would we got knocked out of field
goal range over Oh yeah, oh come on, buddy. Yeah,
that was a tough one. But other than that, pretty
good night from him. But a huge night from Gainwell.
Eighty yards on the ground and forty six yards receiving
on top of that, he was outstanding. They they love,
(44:03):
they love Mount Washington, don't they. Although I think that
Mount Washington has to.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
Stop bending down to hit people. Just stay up like
they don't want to tackle you. Just jump over them.
Keep running.
Speaker 6 (44:17):
They're like a little Chilwells trying the brightest sheet.
Speaker 7 (44:20):
Wow, I'd love to see him just do a one jump,
you know, just leap over them. Feeling and Scantling both
Valdez Scantling both get receptions last night. Marquez Valdez Scantling
goes for the touchdown on a nineteen yard reception there
and Feeling picking up. I think it was a first
down for seven yards. But you know, a nice balanced
(44:41):
attack last night. Most of it was just dumping down
to gain Well. He led with seven receptions last night. Michael,
have more on that coming up at the bottom of
the hour, Our buddy Joe Bartnick hanging in studio with
us and Abbey's got your news right now.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (44:53):
Is this our Baratti by Keystone Basement Systems, Wet Basement,
Keystone Basementsystems dot com of clouds and Sun and I
have thirty seven. Current temperature is sixteen degrees all right.
This was a post in the Wall Street Journal talking
about the phenomenon the young dater's face that can be
(45:13):
a vibe, if not a full on relationship killer. It
is called the swag gap, and it refers to a
fundamental difference in the way that two people carry and
present themselves that goes beyond the beauty meets brain dynamic
long depicted in popular culture. So it's more of like
I'm dressed for cocktail hour and my partner is dressed
(45:36):
for a remote workday situation. So if the cautionary tales
on social media or any indication it's a misalignment that
should serve as a warning signal to get out before
anybody gets hurt. The movement was powered by an Internet
meme about women in heels and men in crocs. So
(45:57):
the example that's in the article Els and Kroc is
a photo from twenty twenty three, and it's Haley Bieber, who.
Speaker 9 (46:05):
Of course is a model gorgeous.
Speaker 6 (46:08):
Ten out of ten.
Speaker 8 (46:09):
She's photographed en route to this event for her skincare brand,
and she's in this red strapless dress, heels, purse matches.
Speaker 9 (46:19):
She's like got it on lock.
Speaker 8 (46:21):
But beside her, rather behind her a little bit is
her husband, Justin Bieber, and he's in this gray like
sagging hoodie with matching shorts and a pink cap and
he's wearing yellow crocs.
Speaker 6 (46:34):
Yeah, so despicable.
Speaker 9 (46:37):
A big style mismatch. So that is called the swag gap.
Speaker 7 (46:41):
I love the swag gap. That's a great way to
describe it. And I've seen it time and time again.
You cannot have that big of a disparity. Now, I'm
I'm not one of those people who'll be on the
tip of fashion. There are couples. You see them when
they are out, and it appears to be very important
to the girl that the guy has all of his
(47:04):
p's and keys, so on the fashion end of things,
all right, I think like that's a that's a girl
I would never make happy.
Speaker 6 (47:10):
It's just not gonna happen no, like.
Speaker 2 (47:13):
No time.
Speaker 5 (47:14):
Yeah, you can tell it right away. It's like, well,
this is what they're about. They're they're about that swag,
both of them. It's important to them. I get it.
It's not important to me. But I'm not stupid enough
to know that I can't go out looking like a slop.
And that happens all. You see it constantly, particularly, and
(47:35):
I want to like, you know, come on, come on
in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 6 (47:38):
Yay, we see it.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Here a lot lot.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
There's a lot of women who are dressed to the
nines ready to go, and then there's a dude wearing
a Steelers jersey. You gotta try just a little bit,
just a little bit, that's all. That's all the ladies want,
right abby, you gotta try a little bit.
Speaker 9 (47:52):
I want to see some effort.
Speaker 5 (47:54):
Shoes once in a while, shoes, not not crocs or sneakers.
Speaker 8 (47:59):
How about out something without a flexible waistband.
Speaker 9 (48:04):
Something with a button.
Speaker 6 (48:06):
Okay, buttons are good.
Speaker 9 (48:07):
Give me something with a button.
Speaker 6 (48:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (48:09):
I just think, like I mean, the the photo that
they use in the example. And maybe I'm going a
little hard on this one, but it's who I am.
Speaker 9 (48:18):
When I see that photo of her.
Speaker 8 (48:20):
Not only because of the occasion of why she's so
dressed up and he's not.
Speaker 9 (48:25):
Because she's launching a brand.
Speaker 8 (48:28):
She's in heels and she looks incredible and he's schlepping along. Yeah,
I'm like, he not only can't match your swag.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
He hates you, Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (48:41):
Hate you so much he does.
Speaker 7 (48:43):
He is probably jealous of her success that in that
specific relationship dynamic.
Speaker 5 (48:48):
I mean, her company's worth like a billion dollars. Yeah,
and uh, I mean I don't think Beebes is on
the like pop culture radar like he used to be.
Speaker 9 (48:58):
Definitely not.
Speaker 5 (48:59):
You need to hit the bar that your woman sets. Yeah,
there's a bar, and you have to hit that, you either.
And it's better to hit that on your own than
when you're just about to walk out the door, because
then you have to change everything.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (49:12):
Yeah, there's just a bar, you know, and that's it. Yeah,
and my bar is very low, it's not very high,
you know, but you.
Speaker 6 (49:19):
Just got to hit it.
Speaker 5 (49:20):
I remember I was I was out with someone and
we just started to see each other and she goes,
I'd love to see what you look like at a
card again, because I was probably wearing you know, whatever
crap I wear, and just I was underdressed.
Speaker 6 (49:31):
She's like a cardigan. I was like, a cardigan. I
got some news for you. You're gonna be very very disappointed.
I'm like, we might as well.
Speaker 5 (49:39):
It was great, it was great meeting you and all
the best going forward.
Speaker 6 (49:44):
This is not going to work.
Speaker 9 (49:45):
I'd love to see what you look like in a cardigan.
Speaker 6 (49:48):
I was like, I was like, just a cardigan. There
you go.
Speaker 9 (49:54):
It is the only situation which I thought, and even then.
Speaker 6 (49:58):
It's a beautiful day and a cardian.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
I was like, just saying that sentence illuminates so much
for me, Like we're just it's not gonna happen.
Speaker 9 (50:08):
Were the high five? Well, high five, high five? We're
going to be friends?
Speaker 6 (50:13):
Friend?
Speaker 5 (50:15):
Yeah, I'm now my girlfriend now is like she messed
with me. She goes, I wanted to see you in
a three piece suit, which I didn't even own a
sports coach, because you know what a sport coat.
Speaker 6 (50:26):
I thought, I can't imagine you don't.
Speaker 5 (50:28):
That was my dad's no, because I I lost weight
and I just can't fit into my sport coats. And
then and it didn't make it. None of my sport
coats made it to any of my four storage units.
I was like, you know what, I don't fit in
any of these. All right, well let's get you. Let's
get you over to the men's warehouse for there you go.
It was sponsored sponsorship. It's funny out how much time
we have. But no, because when I took my girlfriend
(50:50):
to Broadway is one of our you're not talking about
beach View, No, meeting some very important friends of mine.
And she's a I have a beautiful girlfriend. She was
wearing pants else sla. I was just like, you're not
wearing a dress. So now she's like, because she does,
(51:14):
I'm kojak Like everything for me is like from nineteen
seventy four.
Speaker 6 (51:17):
And then the pants.
Speaker 5 (51:19):
I could accept that she had a coat, and I
called it this sport. I'm like, am I dating Mary
Tyler Moore? Like I'm not dating Murphy Brown. I'm not
dating Murphy Brown. One next to vote. Yeah, I just
think when you're dressed up, you wear a dress. I
know women with good pants, and I'm not trying to
be anti feminist, but well, did you make it clear
(51:40):
that that's what you were going for on the night
or do you just assume Broadway meant because I've been
to Broadway shows and in no way, shape or form,
are is everybody dressed the same. I mean the last
one I went to was the one man show of
a Bronx Tail and ninety percent of the theater where
people from Stanton Island wearing you know, Adida's tracksuits, right,
I mean that's you know, that's how they want to
(52:01):
dressed that way when you're you know, it was it
was like she's meeting Burr in clubs of Kennie for
the first time. Okay, I would I didn't want. I
don't want them to think you're dating a gym teacher.
Oh she's an assistant volleyball coach. What's upball team?
Speaker 6 (52:22):
Do you play?
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (52:22):
Yeah, Look, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (52:24):
I think, you know, you got to clarify just you know,
if you're if that's something that you're concerned about, you
to be like, hey, do you mind getting She knew
she she brought a black dress. It's like, I love
her a black dress. Okay, it's the best. Yeah, sure,
get gussied up.
Speaker 6 (52:37):
It's just brought.
Speaker 5 (52:38):
And she's like, well, why are you just wearing I go,
I'm wearing my best tennis shoes and my shirt.
Speaker 6 (52:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Wait, you were wearing sneakers too, and you're mad about her.
Speaker 6 (52:51):
Wearing past She loves you already, Randy. Now you're gonna
take herself on the Yeah, I'm just saying.
Speaker 9 (52:55):
I'm just saying, can you hear it? When you say it?
Is like when you say it, that's all.
Speaker 6 (53:02):
They were very nice. They were very nice. Uh, they
were very nice.
Speaker 5 (53:05):
Sneakers were nice, very nice black pas they're very nice
black shirt. Okay, I'm a sneaker guy. I think you
can get away wearing sneakers in a lot of places
if the rest of the situation is Yeah, they were,
They're very nice, Okay, freshly clean, no dirty laces.
Speaker 6 (53:22):
Oh no, no, no, no, okay.
Speaker 5 (53:24):
Like my stage said, she's like the kind the kind
they bring in my suitcase so they don't touch the
ground target on stage.
Speaker 6 (53:29):
Sure.
Speaker 5 (53:30):
Yeah, do you like the roy Wood Junior? Think you
spray pam on the bottom of them so they never
get dirty? But what whoa that's like a secret. Yeah,
dirt doesn't get on the bottom of them. And that
was specifically so that if you wanted to send them
back to Zappos, you could wear them a few times
if you put pam on the bottom of them. They know,
I just have a couple of nice pairs of sneakers.
I'm not crazy. I'm not like you know, I would
(53:50):
see VERSI like a walk on his tiptoes.
Speaker 6 (53:52):
Yea in them.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (53:55):
There's like that famous video of it of the who
was it that took his shoes off to knock a
crease in them?
Speaker 7 (54:01):
It's escaping me. Someone will tweet it to me, I'm sure.
But that's a big thing, not getting the crease a
thousand percent. I think about it too now. I never
think I don't know. I mean, I don't care, but
I think there's would be a crease.
Speaker 5 (54:14):
I had my best tennis shoes on and she had
the temerity to wear pants.
Speaker 7 (54:21):
Well that that is not exactly the swag gap, I
don't think. But that's more of a personal preference. You
wanted a little more of an old school night.
Speaker 6 (54:27):
I get it. You know, it's like, it's probably we're
dressing up. What'd you go see? Uh, Larry Glen Gary
Glenn Ross. Yeah, so cool.
Speaker 5 (54:37):
We were like the best seats in the house. Kenny
took care of it. It was it was incredible. We
had to go on stage and be like, you know,
with the not during the play obviously, but afterwards that
would be quite thee It was an incredible it was
It was so funny because he was just a bill
was the whole play was incredible.
Speaker 7 (54:53):
Yeah, Joe Bartney can suit you with us as we
are trying to. Uh, I don't know makes sense of
last night's Monday Night went for your Pittsburgh Steelers. I
feel like I should be feeling a lot better than
I do.
Speaker 9 (55:06):
Well, you're afraid because the vibes were so high. Now
you got to go into the Lions and you're wondering
are they too high?
Speaker 7 (55:11):
It's a swag gap between Yeah, the Dolphins and the
Lions this Sunday. Yet, I want to get two cocky
two eight and six teams at Ford Field. Michaell have
more on last night Steeler's victory. Aaron Rodgers and Kenneth
Gainwell on offense getting it done. Also, DK metcalf fifty
five yards last night on three receptions and that touchdown
was just a complete highlight. Well of your top plays
(55:33):
of the game. Jean Steretur also going to be joining
us in rob King with a power hour of Steeler
Talk coming up. Steelers twenty eight Dolphins fifteen, your radio
home of the Black and Gold DVE.
Speaker 6 (55:44):
Did you play something for him? The answer is always yes.
When you build them menu.
Speaker 18 (55:49):
You know what that would make my day so much better.
Speaker 19 (55:51):
The all request the Electric Lunch weekdays at noon on DVE.
Speaker 6 (55:57):
From the Bridgeville Appliance Weather Center known for exception service.
Bridgeville Appliance is looking for exceptional service tacks. Contact Bridgeville
the E Sports All.
Speaker 7 (56:06):
Right, our buddy Joe Barne can studio with us Mike
Prosuda Now with your sports Steelers twenty eight Dolphins fifteen.
And if you look at the numbers, the stats of
this game. Look, if you told me that two it
was going to be twenty two of twenty eight with
two hundred and eighty five yards, two hundred and fifty
three yards and two touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (56:26):
He said, you'd think, Wow, they probably won.
Speaker 5 (56:31):
Yeah, there are lies, There are damn lies, and then
there are statistics, and.
Speaker 6 (56:38):
Too is lied like a rug. Last Night Sports is.
Speaker 11 (56:42):
Brought to you by Bridgeville Appliance to it was terrible numbers. Aside,
the Steelers were deliberate in their start. I don't want
to say slow, but.
Speaker 6 (56:54):
His passer rating was one hundred and thirteen to two. Yeah,
it's hilarious. Take that back to Miami and thought out.
Speaker 11 (57:03):
The Steelers were delibered initially, but they just dominated the
third quarter and wound up what for the Steelers qualifies
as a laugh for twenty eight to fifteen. The weather
at Actressure was frightful on Monday night, but Steelers quarterback
Aaron Rodgers right in his element against Miami.
Speaker 13 (57:22):
I'm a California kid, but always enjoyed playing in the
cold weather. I feel like there's there could be some
advantages to the offense, especially when you're playing on a
field that's a little beat up or super slick like
Green Baby came. Over the years, I've always enjoyed, enjoyed that.
You know, I'm gifted with, you know, hands that can
(57:45):
handle a cold.
Speaker 10 (57:46):
Ball and and.
Speaker 13 (57:49):
You know ball it's a little slick when the weather
gets cold like this, so always been able to throw
it pretty good.
Speaker 10 (57:53):
But you know, it's doesn't tell the whole story.
Speaker 13 (57:57):
There was some nice catches, there were some good jams,
there were some dinking dunks, but I knew I need
to be efficient today, especially I didn't play a bunch
of showing, and I feel like we're pretty efficient.
Speaker 6 (58:08):
Can he pick a catching a little indirect stray there?
Thank God, my.
Speaker 11 (58:12):
Hands are big to handle a slip bull. Rogers said
that Miami played a lot of cover too. I maybe
saw more single high than he did. I'll defer to him. Uh,
maybe they were disguising cover two with single high.
Speaker 6 (58:27):
You're saying he passed up some opportunities, particularly early in
the game. Uh, but all's well, that ends well.
Speaker 11 (58:33):
Aaron Rodgers twenty three of twenty seven for two hundred
twenty four yards two touchdowns. His pass rating was one
twenty five point nine. Rogers completed eighty five point two
percent of his passes. The only time he's been better
in that department in his twenty one year career was
when he completed eighty six point four percent against Carolina
(58:55):
a week seven of the twenty fourteen season.
Speaker 7 (58:59):
Wow in last night, I mean it hit some tight
windows too. That DK touchdown and partake of God.
Speaker 11 (59:06):
The safety number twenty one came diving in and just
barely miss knocking that down or picking it off, and
then Metcalf did the rest.
Speaker 6 (59:14):
Rogers in command.
Speaker 11 (59:15):
During that twenty eight to fifteen victory, as he had
been on to some of the seventh against Baltimore. He
wasn't quote unquote in the zone, but close enough.
Speaker 13 (59:25):
I feel good, you know, I feel like to be
in the zone. Maybe there'd be some more like down
the field shots. I mean, it wasn't because of the
defense they were playing at the soft coverage, especially at
the safety position. It wasn't a ton of down the
field shots. So I think it was a very efficient game.
But I expect to in that type of game to
(59:46):
be efficient. And obviously in this case, we caught the ball,
we got open. But the zone is a state, you know,
the flow states. They like to put the tag on it. Now,
it's like that's obviously the design destination every single week.
But it's all about efficiency and being smart with the football.
Speaker 5 (01:00:05):
We'll tell you he almost had one huge downfield chunk
and it was a great play by Aaron Rodgers to
hurry up and snap the ball and catch them with
twelve minute on the field. If Scanlon doesn't get napped
just a little bit, he got hooked just a little bit.
Speaker 11 (01:00:18):
On his break. That was almost That was see you later.
Big development of the night for the Steelers. And everything else,
the secondary to thirty three minutes and thirty three seconds
of time of possession, which allowed them to run sixty
two offensive plays to Miami's forty eight. That has been
a problem all season, and boy, would certainly improve their
(01:00:41):
chances whatever they're going to do in the playoffs if
they get there. They got to reverse that season long
trend of just leaving the defense out there to get
beat up and worn out and beaten down.
Speaker 6 (01:00:54):
And a big step in that direction last night.
Speaker 11 (01:00:57):
Also fifty five points in the last two game games
now after the twenty eight last night, that's uh stuff
that the Steelers are not used to ever since Well,
how long has it been. It's been a long time.
Speaker 5 (01:01:10):
Joe, Yes, Mike, I'm to ask someone who knows what
they're talking about.
Speaker 6 (01:01:14):
Do you think I'll call somebody?
Speaker 18 (01:01:16):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:01:17):
No, I wanted to ask them, and I think you
would know.
Speaker 5 (01:01:19):
Do you think that the two new receivers made a
difference in the fact that more guys were open, It
got firemouth open.
Speaker 6 (01:01:27):
It just seemed like a totally different offense last night.
Speaker 11 (01:01:30):
Rogers had said leading up to the game that you're
talking about Marquez Valdast Scantling and Adam Thieln, Yes, that
they were where they were supposed to be when they
were supposed to be there. That helps him not get sacked,
That helps other guys get open, That helps to keep
dk Metcalf from getting too much attention.
Speaker 6 (01:01:47):
Yeah, it all adds up.
Speaker 11 (01:01:48):
And I think those guys, I mean, I don't think
Adam Sieland or Valdas Scantling are going to have eight
catch for one hundred and forty yard game. But if
they can just contribute, and you got to touchdown out
of Scantling last night. Fourteenth by the way, Rogers to
Scantling all time, Fourteen's a big number for a wide receiver, quarterback, combination, sealing.
(01:02:12):
I think could be a third down guy, an extend
possession guy. They're gonna stick their hand in the pile
and help move it forward. And the biggest thing they
got going for those two things, those guys I've going
for them. They're experienced, they they're pros, they know how
to do this, and they're not.
Speaker 6 (01:02:28):
Five to ten. Yeah, he can see them. You can't
have three short guys. One if he's really fast, Calvin
Austin you can get away with. You got to have
some size particularly down the field. Fifty five points, as
we were saying, a lot of points for the Steelers
(01:02:49):
and enough to raise expectations. Well, Aaron Rodgers didn't want
to go there.
Speaker 13 (01:02:57):
You guys can expect whatever they you want. But you know,
we were four thirteen on third down. A lot of
that's in the first half in the four minute drew,
but three or three on fourth down was good. We
finally had more you know, sixty two plays, which we
have been doing in a while.
Speaker 10 (01:03:14):
Obviously efficient throwing football. We had three sacks.
Speaker 13 (01:03:17):
One of them was on me to keep the clock
going on the fourth course, or really just two sacks
three for three in the red zone. You know, we
haven't been the most dynamic, explosive offense this season, but
I feel like we've been good in the red zone.
I don't know where we're at league wide, but we
got to be in the you know, upper half at minimum,
I would assume. And you know, we've had stretches where
(01:03:40):
we played good football. I think tonight was the first
time we had complimentary football in all three phases, and
that's the standard. So we're going to try and meet
that next week in Detroitment. This week in Detroits.
Speaker 6 (01:03:52):
Yeah, I think they're six in red zone offense.
Speaker 11 (01:03:54):
They've been They've been really good at red zone offense
and red zone defense all year. If they can just
get better between the twenties, Yeah, and last two weeks
are starting to.
Speaker 5 (01:04:03):
Coach Mike McDaniel last night, who looked absolutely freezing on
the sidelines wearing my aunt's glasses after the game, had
this to say.
Speaker 20 (01:04:11):
Supremely disappointed in the outcome, And you know, I think
it does a disservice to you know, really the objective,
the work that we were doing on this opponent, and
flat out their team was better than our team. So
(01:04:32):
focused on that and what we have to do for
the upcoming next forty eight hours as we get ready
for Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (01:04:41):
He's got to wait to get stoned until after the
press conference.
Speaker 6 (01:04:45):
Why do you think it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:04:49):
He'sn't out there, dude, man stealers with a big win
last night.
Speaker 11 (01:04:53):
Now, I keep looking for Scooby Doo on a sideline.
Speaker 7 (01:04:58):
If they beat Detroit on Sunday and then beat the
Browns the week after that in Cleveland, that's it. That's
all she wrote, And the Ravens game won't matter. I
don't know if they lose one. Yeah, yeah, it's it's complicated.
I can go through that at some point if you'd like,
it's looking like though it's gonna come down to Yeah,
I mean, if they beat Detroit week eighteen, that's pretty big.
(01:05:21):
If wait, they have to beat Detroit. No, but no,
I'm saying it's looking like, no matter what happens, it's
going to come down to that last game.
Speaker 6 (01:05:31):
I would say it's more likely that it will than
it won't. Great. I don't know the ball. I don't
know the Pittsburgh's going to beat Detroit.
Speaker 11 (01:05:38):
I don't know that Baltimore is going to lose both
the New England game and the Green Bay game. I
think Baltimore will lose one of those. Feel pretty good
about that. If Shador beats the Steelers, oh my god.
Speaker 9 (01:05:48):
Oh come on, I'm nervous about Detroit. I'm not nervous
about the Browns.
Speaker 5 (01:05:53):
I'm with you on that one, although that could change.
Maybe it depends what happens to Detroit.
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
We like, oh god, we.
Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
Really got to beat the Browns.
Speaker 9 (01:06:00):
I'm gonna my pants.
Speaker 6 (01:06:02):
Uh, I just don't.
Speaker 11 (01:06:03):
Yeah, they'll lose to Detroit and then the Sky will
be falling again and everybody should be fired again.
Speaker 6 (01:06:08):
Yes, and everybody sucks again and then yeah, and then
it'll be Christmas. It's nice to get a break from
that last two.
Speaker 7 (01:06:15):

Speaker 6 (01:07:57):
What happened to the halo rule in the NFL?
Speaker 7 (01:08:00):
I mean Calvin Austin got decked the moment he caught
the ball last night.
Speaker 6 (01:08:04):
Isn't there some.
Speaker 5 (01:08:05):
Level of protection that's supposed to be afforded the kick
returner on a punt Not on Sundays.
Speaker 18 (01:08:11):
No, No, no halo, no yard little you know, free
space in front where he has that safety protection.
Speaker 6 (01:08:18):
No, not at all in this league.
Speaker 18 (01:08:21):
When you play on Sunday and you're looking up at
that punt, uh, you better be sure you know, because
if they time it right like they did last night.
That's that's all illegal.
Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
Isn't that incongruous with the rest of the rules the
league has in place.
Speaker 6 (01:08:37):
They changed the kickoff rule so that nobody gets hurt,
but you can murder.
Speaker 18 (01:08:45):
We have to keep a little bit of it in there, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Let us tess face. And nothing against the punt returners either,
but we'll protect the quarterbacks. Yes, but a couple of
you other guys, hey, you know, keep your head on
the swivel. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 7 (01:09:02):
You know, what I liked about last night's game is
that they didn't call a lot of penalties. There was
a lot of holdings that weren't called.
Speaker 6 (01:09:11):
They let them play last night.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
I don't know if that had to do with the
cold temperatures, but it was a little easier to watch
that game than a lot of the other ones that
went on this weekend that were, you know, flags were
thrown all over the field.
Speaker 6 (01:09:23):
They let them.
Speaker 7 (01:09:24):
Play last night. How does that a game like that unfold?
Is it just coincidence or is it a vibe amongst
the rest.
Speaker 6 (01:09:32):
Where they're like, we're cool too, let's keep this clock.
Speaker 18 (01:09:37):
Running's let's move it along right now, listen in defense
and really an appreciation of Land Clark and that crew.
Last night, I thought they refereed a really good football game.
Speaker 6 (01:09:48):
I mean, you know, we talk a lot.
Speaker 18 (01:09:51):
When we're talking with officials throughout the season in the NFL,
especially when when you have regular plays, when officials get
the football clean, the last play up, get the football down,
get back to your positions with thirty seconds left on
that play clock, and let quarterbacks and offenses get into
their rhythm and you get a flow of game. The
(01:10:12):
game a lot of times does play better. You know,
they sounds like crazy thoughts, but you know, in this league,
quarterbacks can dictate the tempo of football games when they're
on point, and they when things are set in a
good efficient manner. And I really really did think. I
actually texted them this morning already. I really thought that's
what they did last night. When you do that, players
(01:10:32):
play better, and I think the game plays better, and
then you hope, kind of what I felt like happened
last night, files go down right, and then you make
that good decision. I think really in the downfield, officials
are probably taxed with it a little more. Like you
just said, like let the players play. We don't want
to see penalties not called penalties and files you know,
(01:10:53):
and call them. But when we get into that gray
area where you know, it's a man's game tonight, now
we're playing for it's getting bigger, let some of that stuff,
you know, unfold. And I think when you get in
that rhythm and you have a couple good no calls, right,
good plays where man I could have had a TICKI
tech there, but we just let it play through, there's
(01:11:14):
a vibe that happens then that can be contagious as well,
and I think that's good for the game.
Speaker 6 (01:11:19):
I thought they did a really good.
Speaker 18 (01:11:20):
Job at that last night.
Speaker 5 (01:11:21):
And that's the you know, the thing that you bring
up all the time. By allowing the human element back
into the game and not micro analyzing everything, you actually
get the flow of the game back.
Speaker 18 (01:11:33):
That's right, That's exactly right. Those are the most elite
athletes coaches in the world. They live on efficiency. That's
that's what they're programmed to do from day one at Latrobe.
When you keep them in those rhythms, all teams they
function better. Yeah, and there still live that human condition
and I think I think they did a really really
good job at that last night, and I thought the
(01:11:54):
game played that way, you know, I mean, to me,
one of the biggest plays and when I really felt
like Pittsburgh and Aaron just specifically was just playing at
that level where I fondly remembered being on the field
with him, was when he caught the player with twelve.
Speaker 6 (01:12:08):
On the field. Right, Yeah, that was really something really close.
That's huge.
Speaker 18 (01:12:12):
Those are huge, huge plays because not only was that
a first down, you just took three and a half
more minutes out of this football game more than likely, right,
I mean, there's such a chess match happening and something
just like that, And what he really was saying is
we're mentally prepared. Everybody's on point here, Yeah they aren't,
and we got you Rightah. So there's again there's a
(01:12:34):
human condition in that chess match there that plays in
your head. And I thought that was a really huge
play less night for a lot of different reasons.
Speaker 7 (01:12:43):
So another play that I thought was really big a
call in the third quarter. There's three minutes left, the
Steelers are up twenty one to three. They're deep in
their own territory. It's like third and eight or something
like that and Rogers throws underneath the Friarmouth Jordan Brooks
stops him short of the first down, and then he's
(01:13:05):
called for taunting, which gives the Steelers a first down,
which was absolutely backbreaking for the Dolphins because if they
get the ball back there and it's twenty one to ten,
you know, you got a full quarter to play a
little different. Yeah, did that, in your estimation look like
(01:13:27):
it was enough to amount to a taunting call.
Speaker 18 (01:13:31):
The physical standover that they kind of isolated on the replay, No,
I did not think it was enough. Now in defense,
and I haven't spoken with any of the guys that
were on.
Speaker 6 (01:13:40):
The field last night.
Speaker 18 (01:13:41):
There was a lot of other talk happening in there,
and there's not many things that you would flag for
taunting verbally, right, but there are a few. And I
don't know if that's what occurred. I don't want to speculate,
but you could see there was a little there was
a two more three more clicks of the trash talk
at that point, and you don't.
Speaker 6 (01:14:03):
Know what led up to that either.
Speaker 18 (01:14:04):
You know, there were a couple of that player last
night twenty and I've apologized or not, remember he was
he was sticking people last night. I mean that that
game had some serious hits. You guys alluded to it
earlier in the earlier block, but you just don't know
if that was the case, right, I don't. I hope
it wasn't the posture standing because I think in that moment,
(01:14:26):
you don't it wasn't like the full on you know,
I'm straddling you and I own you kind of feel.
It kind of was just that moment in time and
then he got away from it. But following that, there
was an extended level of burbage.
Speaker 6 (01:14:40):
Yeah, there was.
Speaker 18 (01:14:41):
I don't know what prompted that, you know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (01:14:43):
Like a bullderm situation, or is there any a little
more than even.
Speaker 18 (01:14:50):
The longest yard might put it that way? You know,
I know I broke his neck, but I know I
broke his neck, you know, Yeah, but not any more
than that, right, Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:15:00):
I thought I thought that they might have been looking
at targeting there, like helmet to helmet or something, because
it looked like it was a direct headshot.
Speaker 5 (01:15:09):
But there's a little shoulder in there. What what can
you say to somebody to get a talk? I didn't
realize in that short of a period of time. You
can you can throw someone something out at someone, Yes,
does it have to be like a death threat?
Speaker 6 (01:15:27):
They say a lot to each other. It wasn't that
long of a conversation.
Speaker 18 (01:15:33):
That was it. But this is the Morning Show Yet
I would say this, let's let our imaginations just take
us to that place somewhere. You know there would be
a few things. And again, were there are three or
four plays prior to the different situations that evolved, You
(01:15:53):
don't there's a management maybe piece of that involved in
that play. And again I don't I don't want to
speculate and say it was one of these things.
Speaker 6 (01:16:01):
You're not one of these things.
Speaker 18 (01:16:03):
If it was just for the standing over, then that
play didn't fit in the essence of how they worked
the rest of that game. And I think Troy Aikman
alluded to that a little right just because of what
we visually saw if you were listening to the game
from home, and I think that's where that lied. But
again I don't want to guess as to what it was.
But that was my thought is that there was a
(01:16:23):
bunch of talk in there, but there was also talking throughout,
and we put you on kind of unnoticed at some
point throughout the games.
Speaker 7 (01:16:31):
Last week it was the Ravens fans who took issue
with the officiating, and this week it's Patriots fans. Patriots
fans are pissed and they think the refs gave the
Bills a game, and they had a situation that I
was like, I went to Gino school.
Speaker 6 (01:16:48):
I know what this is.
Speaker 7 (01:16:50):
That deep pass downfield in the fourth quarter when it
was twenty four to twenty one Pats and they had
a fifty to fifty ball and they decline a passing apperence.
It looks like it's an interception, but it's a fifty
to fifty ball, and Patriots fans are like, what the
hell that's an interception?
Speaker 5 (01:17:06):
How could that be pass interference? He turned around, he
got the ball. Yeah, he didn't get the ball. It
was a fifty to fifty they were both down. Ty
goes to the offense, yes.
Speaker 18 (01:17:16):
Exactly, ran exactly, and then really kind of the and
it was a close catch and no catch too right,
I mean, it was like, did he really catch it?
And then after I think John Hussey was the referee there,
announced that they declined to pass in appearance and went
with the catch. I kind of was waiting and not
that it would have mattered for those that you know,
were kind of trying to dissect it. So now the
(01:17:37):
referee announces we declined past interference the ruling on the
field of completed catch, and now there's a challenge flag,
and now you go review it and go, oh my,
he didn't catch it. If that would have been the case,
then they can go back and say, after review the
ruling was incomplete, we're going to penalize you for the
pass interference, which is the same result right without the yardage.
(01:18:00):
But as a ref you are programmed anytime you rule
a twenty five to thirty yard catch and have passive
appearance at the same spot, you automatically decline the foul
and give the players in the fantasy football world and
all those that really care about those thirty one yards
in a different way. Like you know, with passive apference
(01:18:20):
is a thirty one yard penalty. I know, but that's
my receiver. I need those thirty one yards for my
fantasy team or my quarterback in And there may be
player incentives built into something in that place as well, right,
like a thousand yards with us yards or something gets
you another bonus, So there's business aspect of it.
Speaker 11 (01:18:41):
Do you know there's this thing called player performance props
too that might cover there.
Speaker 18 (01:18:46):
You go there, there's a lot of peas for me, Mike,
I stay away from three p's. In one sentence, I.
Speaker 11 (01:18:51):
Just tell you there are no meaningless plays, no meaningless yards,
no meaningless occurrence.
Speaker 6 (01:18:57):
Is none one thousand percent correct? Gin know?
Speaker 7 (01:19:02):
Forty four year old Philip Rivers came out of retirement
to play this weekend Almost Got the Almost Got the
Colts the wind in Seattle, which would have been insane.
But a lot of people are like, wow, how can
you just come off the couch like that after almost
five years and perform at a high level?
Speaker 6 (01:19:18):
Is it making you think?
Speaker 7 (01:19:19):
You know what, maybe I ought to pull the stripes
out of the closet.
Speaker 18 (01:19:24):
Come all, man, you know what, it's so funny you
said that. You know, I'm in my little chair where
I have to slouch down so I can keep my
neck at a good place to look at.
Speaker 6 (01:19:32):
A thousand on the wall.
Speaker 18 (01:19:34):
So my posture is terrible now. Even at home, Litha'll
look at me like will you please sit up? Like
I'm like, oh, I'm just prepping for.
Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
Work this week.
Speaker 18 (01:19:41):
I'm down in that kind of recliner couch kind of feel.
But yeah, I did say that actually because you know,
you're looking at a guy that you kind of paralleled
careers with, you know, And and now all of a sudden,
I'm watching Indie Planet, like I know exactly what's gonna
happen today, you know, I know how he and yeah,
there was that moment or two of reminiscing about going
(01:20:04):
back and pulling the cobwebs off of the jersey and
you know, having to come back. And then I watched
the uh the Steelers last night, saw that it was
you know, seven degrees maybe it's night. They kind of
sit at home and you know, fet the button and gino,
what did you think? Wow, tell me, let me think
a look at this and two steps to not a
(01:20:25):
football move they called, you know, yeah, back to the
next day.
Speaker 23 (01:20:30):
The whisp a bit there was a whist but maybe
coming back And but I do think it's really cool
to watch and I look and again it's called because
we're all getting older too, right.
Speaker 18 (01:20:40):
Like he can't do it. And it's it's that great
saying that we like to say, especially when we're in
our sixties that today's forty is last generation's thirty five,
So I could continue to push the clock back.
Speaker 6 (01:20:52):
Ten years in my own mind too.
Speaker 18 (01:20:54):
But uh, watching air last night, getting that football out
so quick reading it still has his whip rivers never
really had that big time arms, so he still had
that half you know, the balls above his head like yeah,
like shot putty things kind of weird, like dude, did
you really mean to throw it that way? I mean,
he got there, but you know, uh, he wouldn't have
(01:21:16):
got a lot of artistic impression points. And then we
were in like gymnastics for his throat completion. Wain ran
the talk. We both went to Romania like him.
Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
Think there.
Speaker 18 (01:21:29):
That was pretty good. You know, I respect to Natty
a comedy.
Speaker 6 (01:21:33):
You know, why do you cheap?
Speaker 18 (01:21:36):
Giving everybody like three point fives? And then Natty it
comes out and standing there with the tent all the time.
What's going on?
Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
Yeah, I know what's going on. Geo Jean's there from
the NFL and CBS. Always a pleasure, Thanks.
Speaker 6 (01:21:48):

Speaker 19 (01:22:28):

to replace guaranteed human.
Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
Play action pass looking steps up throws to the right
to the Lufti Vigor part touchdown Pittsburgh student. How about
that Markuezvaldez scantling with his first reception as a member
of the Steelers, and it is a Pittsburgh Steelers touchdown.
Speaker 6 (01:22:57):
That made it fourteen to three in the third quarter.
Speaker 7 (01:23:00):
It was a brilliant way to come out in the
second half after scoring to end the first half with
the Cam Hayward run up the middle there on the
tush push for the touchdown. They drive down the field
with five straight round's, a little play action, beautiful throw
over to Markez Valdez Gantlin nineteen yards their fourteenth time
(01:23:20):
connecting for a touchdown Rogers and mvs and that portended
bad things for the Dolphins, because the Steelers would score
again in short order and make it twenty one three
five minutes later on the DK metcalf twenty eight year touchdown,
which was a thing of beauty as he tossed Manca aside,
(01:23:41):
welcome back Manca, and then of course John New scores
in the fourth quarter to make it twenty eight three,
and that was all she wrote. Steelers twenty eight Dolphins
with some mop up time scoring it's twenty eight to
fifteen year final.
Speaker 5 (01:23:55):
Just useless calories on those yards. Yes, driv to be crazy, though,
I'm ended.
Speaker 6 (01:24:01):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:24:02):
Joe Barneck hanging out in studio with us and Abby.
I know you were kind of hunkered down on Saturday
night as I was hunkered down, Yes, on Saturday night.
Speaker 5 (01:24:10):
But Joe, you were out and about. You performed at
our buddy Matt Light's Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, Ugly Christmas
Sweater Party two shows. They were super packed great crowds.
Even with the weather, people still came out. That's awesome. Yeah,
everybody came out. It was amazing. I wore the wrong
sweater though, Oh no, I wore an ugly sweater, but
(01:24:30):
I should have worn a crystal tang jersey.
Speaker 6 (01:24:34):
That's the ugliest sweater I've seeing all weekend. The Penguins
had a rough weekend, coming off not a great week.
Speaker 5 (01:24:43):
I mean, you lose with a zero point tenth of
a second left and then okay, Montreal Montreal, but then
they lost.
Speaker 6 (01:24:51):
They gave up a four goal lead.
Speaker 5 (01:24:52):
This has only happened six times since sind Andov have
entered a league, and only once in franchise history. We
were the Clipper for twenty years before, right, so you
think it would have happened in the seventies. Yeah, but no,
and then to blow it was gonna happen on Sunday.
You just knew it was gonna happen. That's why last
night I was like, oh, please, dear Lord, don't be
(01:25:13):
a prevent defense. Yeah, it made it made me a
little uncomfortable.
Speaker 7 (01:25:18):
I wasn't totally worried about it, but they were kind
of moving with ease in that prevent situation. But you know,
twenty three was a pretty comfortable lead, and that offense
wasn't so juggernauty that I was worried about to being
able to have the you know, skills to pull off
(01:25:38):
the comeback.
Speaker 6 (01:25:39):
But right, so Saturday night in that blizzard, did you
drive down to I don't.
Speaker 5 (01:25:44):
I don't like driving at night, so I like, that's right,
I forgot and I like to have some drinks, so
I ubered. But the Uber coming back it took me
an hour and forty five minutes, and I was just
toggling between wait.
Speaker 6 (01:25:57):
Wait, wait, wait, just to get the car. It took
you an hour and.
Speaker 5 (01:26:00):
Yeah, because everybody was like, you know, you say, okay,
it's gonna we're gonna find a driver. They didn't find
a driver between Uber and Lyft for an hour, and
so you just kept your phone scrolling.
Speaker 9 (01:26:10):
Is that what is the last I'm actually shocked somebody
picked you up.
Speaker 22 (01:26:15):
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:26:15):
And then and then uh, you know, God blessed Mohammed.
Speaker 9 (01:26:21):
Bless Mohammed.
Speaker 6 (01:26:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, whatever team he's on, I
was on this.
Speaker 22 (01:26:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 24 (01:26:30):
It was funny.
Speaker 5 (01:26:30):
Was we waited and the God God blessed the people
at burn that let me hang out there because they
were like it was everything was shut down. But I'm
just like, I wish I just would have had the
guy at double Tree's number.
Speaker 6 (01:26:42):
That guy.
Speaker 5 (01:26:44):
Cheaper just to get a room a Double Tree than
the you know, the super duper uber was. But then
how much was the uber ride back to South Hill?
They got one hundred dollars because I had to pay well,
like one twenty five. Was it a four wheel drive? Yeah,
it was a it was a super, a RAV e
V whatever, But and I paid for like the super
like the cheap ones were never gonna come, so I
(01:27:06):
paid for like hey right, you know, pick your temperature,
pick your guy. But was so funny list I would
an hour and forty five minutes for this, and literally
we got two stoplights. I literally just heard the think
please put on your seatbelt. Boom, someone ran into us.
I'm like, I only got two stop lights before another?
(01:27:26):
Are you kidding me? And the lady was kind of indignant.
If you're listening, yeah, you weren't nice.
Speaker 6 (01:27:34):
The woman who hit Mohammed. The woman hit Mohammed. Mohammed,
comany nic, sir. He got back in the car. He goes,
please mister Joe, don't tell uber. I'm like, dude, I'm
not a rat. I'm gonna tell. He's like, I'll get deported. Yeah, well,
well he would lose his uber license. I guess.
Speaker 5 (01:27:52):
If he's been I don't know, but the lady was like,
Lady's like, do you have to talk to me that way?
He goes, but you hit my car. She's like yelling
at him. We were to stop late, like we were
completely She was probably drunk. She said, I'm going to work.
I'm like, oh, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
Maybe she was.
Speaker 6 (01:28:10):
I don't know, but uh, but thank god for Muhammed.
Any strip joints are open.
Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:28:17):
From her voice, she didn't sound too sexy. Yeah, okay,
I didn't look. You didn't look out of the car. No,
I was just like, I don't want to get the car,
wasn't I was happy to be in a car, Yeah, exactly.
So Mohammad's car wasn't banged up enough that you couldn't
get back to the South hill. He I think it
was so snow covered that maybe it was banged up
pretty good, but he couldn't tell. He's like, oh, let's
just keep going. Yeah, you know, and it was like
we were kind of you know, a blizzard on the
(01:28:39):
north side.
Speaker 6 (01:28:39):
It was like he just I think he just wanted
to go away.
Speaker 5 (01:28:42):
Yeah, the problem good lord wow, hour and forty five
minutes I would have been I would have been thinking
about hoofing it at that point.
Speaker 18 (01:28:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:28:53):
I wonder if you could call a cab because everybody
just assumes they're like, oh, the weather's bad, I'm not
going to drive, I'll just call Uber. Well, nobody he
wants to uber. Nobody wants to lift. Nobody wants to
drive in that crap. Yeah, nobody wants to do anything
except drink.
Speaker 9 (01:29:06):
It was except drink. I think you had the right idea.
You just like stay well at that point.
Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
God, you know, because I fought those battery packs that
people came around. Yeah, I fought those for years. Finally
my girlfriend got me one, or my battery would have died.
I would have had to walk. I wouldn't have had
any phone power to get my uber.
Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:29:29):
Oh dude, Well I'm glad to show went well. Yeah,
glad Mohammed and hopefully that woman got to work and
the crowds were great, a lot of DV listeners and
just good times, right, on.
Speaker 6 (01:29:40):
Yeah, Mary, it was Merry Christmas, right on, Abby.
Speaker 8 (01:29:42):
What's going on is this hour is brought to you
by Window Nation. Intervals of clouds and sun. It's a
high of thirty seven today. Current temperature still in the teens.
We're right about sixteen degrees right, Oh no, it's eighteen
degrees now, guys, I told you I was going to
(01:30:03):
give you a little bit of the NFL Christmas Day programming.
Kelly Clarkson is going to be hosting the NFL Christmas
Game Day on December the twenty fifth.
Speaker 7 (01:30:12):
By the way, they paid so much money Netflix and
Amazon for those Christmas Day games and now they're all dogs.
Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
Those games all stink now.
Speaker 8 (01:30:22):
Yes, Dallas Cowboys against the Commanders one pm and Detroit
Lions against the Minnesota Vikings at four thirty pm.
Speaker 6 (01:30:30):
Dallas and Detroit. They couldn't pick two different teams they
played Thanksgiving?
Speaker 9 (01:30:33):
Yeah, yeah, it's pretty boring.
Speaker 6 (01:30:35):
Isn't there a night game?
Speaker 8 (01:30:36):
Also, it's not listed here, so maybe those might not
be on Netflix. Maybe those are the two Netflix game.
Speaker 6 (01:30:41):
Yeah, it's on Prime.
Speaker 8 (01:30:43):
I believe like you need Paramount plus Prime, Netflix, ESPN,
Like you just need just the assortment of everything to
watch any given game.
Speaker 6 (01:30:55):
Broncos chief. Now what's that on?
Speaker 5 (01:30:57):
That's a NI game on Prime and that's on Prime, right,
and it doesn't matter. I don't cheas her out to
see homes right, Yeah, exactly, be fun to see any
Reid get beat. That's it'll be fun. Maybe Christmas? Yeah,
Tom or on Netflix for Christmas?
Speaker 6 (01:31:14):
Are they really?
Speaker 18 (01:31:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:31:15):
They were like on the pregame show Who is Burt
and Tom Kid?
Speaker 2 (01:31:20):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (01:31:22):
Is it?
Speaker 13 (01:31:23):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:31:24):
All day?
Speaker 5 (01:31:25):
Are just like pregame for the first kick off Bert
when the Steelers were for Christmas. Burt was on that show.
So this year got Tom too.
Speaker 6 (01:31:32):
Oh well that that's cool. I'm glad those guys are
getting work. Well yeah, I mean you don't never see
Burt anywhere.
Speaker 5 (01:31:38):
No, they're everywhere. Bert owned the Internet for like ten
years and rightly so. I mean he is one of
the few people who just looking at him, you just
start laughing. Oh he's hilarious.
Speaker 6 (01:31:50):
He's the best. Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
And Tom.
Speaker 6 (01:31:53):
We only got to hang with Tom a few times,
but you were here.
Speaker 5 (01:31:56):
You were a part of the Comedy Festival the year
that Tom Sgura and Christina did the the Comedy Fest. Yeah,
I mean I go, yes, I go back with Tom
and Christina since I remember when I first started dating.
Speaker 9 (01:32:09):
Yeah wow, how long have they been married?
Speaker 5 (01:32:12):
Like I've been doing so long, it's ridiculous. At least
fifteen years. Ok, wow, at least together fifteen years? Yeah yeah, right,
right right, we have kids and stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:32:25):
They were together the first time she was on the
show and she was pregnant for the Comedy Fest we
did that year, right, And that was the one.
Speaker 6 (01:32:32):
It was Norton, Jay Segura, Christina and you and Ersey
did the latest three shows. Yeah that's right, we did
three and then Ralphie hooked up with us afterwards.
Speaker 22 (01:32:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:32:44):
Wow, that was the one.
Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
When I got the I left Burr's bus, got on
the plane in Burbank, and then we got the Baltimore.
I got stuck in Baltimore and I was like, oh
my god, I'm not even gonna make the morning show.
To plug the show, and I ran, I caught a
cab and the guy goes, you're Joe Bartneck. I go,
I go, you know where DV he's at. He goes, oh, yeah,
(01:33:07):
because you're Joe Bartnick. You guys were talking about me
coming on you waiting for you.
Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:33:11):
The guy drove like he was smoking the band d
He's waiting for you. He literally went on the on
the what the brim on the burm? Yeah, the burm, Yeah, yeah,
he went on the Yeah. It was crazy. It's the best, dude,
you're late for DV get.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
In all right.
Speaker 8 (01:33:33):
The Internet became a bigger cesspool of misinformation than ever
this year, so the merriam Wister Webster's word of the
Year for twenty twenty five makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 9 (01:33:44):
It is slop.
Speaker 6 (01:33:45):
Yes, as in a I slop.
Speaker 8 (01:33:49):
They define it as digital content of low quality that
is produced usually in quantity, by means of artificial intelligence.
Speaker 6 (01:33:58):
Yeah, slop. Sls get trash for using slop.
Speaker 7 (01:34:02):
This past weekend during Weekend Update, they did a joke
about people in casinos with the oxygen tag next to
them at a slot machine, and they used an AI
photo instead of the graphic department coming up with something,
which is always how it's been. And I can't stand
the AI look the look of things. I really hate it.
(01:34:22):
And I know that we're all going to become sort of,
you know, immune to it eventually, and I hate that
that's the fact, Just like we've accepted all of these
lower production standards throughout television, where we talked about that
last week a little bit. You know, we used to
have such high standards, like, oh, I can't believe they're
letting a person do a three hour TV show from
(01:34:44):
their study at home, But that happens all the time now, and.
Speaker 6 (01:34:50):
The slop factor.
Speaker 7 (01:34:52):
I think people are just going to get so used
to it that all the people saying it sucks, we're
going to forget why it sucks because we won't remember
how good it used to be. And part of the
joke of those SNL graphics that they would come up
would be how just kind of janky it would be
thrown together.
Speaker 6 (01:35:06):
And now they're not doing that. I don't know. I
hate that stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:35:11):
There's a local business that did used AI to come
up with a photo to pregame, like talk about their
pregame party for Monday night football last night, and it's
like kids playing like having a snowball fight, wearing a
Watt jersey and something. And I was just so disappointed.
I'm like this, Pittsburgh, go outside and take a picture
(01:35:32):
and go.
Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (01:35:34):
It didn't have to you know, It's like it looks
like dystopian Norman Rockwell to me, but slops on a
new word.
Speaker 6 (01:35:43):
This definition of yes, yes, the definition of it is no,
That's what I was saying. It used to be.
Speaker 5 (01:35:50):
It's like if you ate like Thanksgiving and like a
bunch of crap on your plate that slope.
Speaker 6 (01:35:57):
Well pigs.
Speaker 2 (01:35:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:35:59):
Now it's when somebody has too many fingers on a road.
Speaker 5 (01:36:02):
It's like that's just yeah, or a third arm that's
in a group photo, or like some of the attacked
by a bear that's like forty feet tall.
Speaker 9 (01:36:10):
It's like, yeah, yeah, exactly, there you go again.
Speaker 8 (01:36:13):
It's gonna be cold today, but not as bad as
it's been this week high of thirty seven.
Speaker 6 (01:36:18):
This was a big one that.
Speaker 4 (01:36:19):
Comes and now GAMEO starts left, cuts back to the right,
gets across the forty five trucks off the tackle into
Dolphins territory. Inside the forty inside the thirty down the
right sideline, and close to the twenty yard line. Gainwell
rips off an enormous run before Fitzpatrick can knock it
out of mounts at the twenty a forty yard gallup.
Speaker 6 (01:36:39):
They came out running in the second half and it paid.
Speaker 7 (01:36:41):
David at Steelers twenty eight Dolphins fifteen, eight and six
and headed to Detroit live from.
Speaker 19 (01:36:47):
The Donz Appliances Studios where Pittsburgh shops Sports.
Speaker 7 (01:36:52):
Michaelside's got your sports right now on the dB Morning
show Mike.
Speaker 17 (01:36:56):
Sports Is Up.
Speaker 11 (01:36:57):
Brought to you by Bridgeville, applies to the Steelers stuffed
the run and then some last night against Miami. A
Dolphins team that had averaged one hundred and ninety two
rushing yards per game over its last four was held
to sixty three on the ground last night at Atrashuer Stadium.
But after Steelers twenty eight Dolphins fifteen, Cam Heyward sounded
(01:37:18):
most enthusiastic about the offense getting one touchdown to close
out the second quarter and another to open the third.
Speaker 22 (01:37:26):
You know, we talked so much about double dipping before half,
and it's the game within the game. You know, we
get seven points late and then you know, the second
half comes and our offense really ran the ball well
and then that caused confusion on the back end with
the pass. But when you're able to get fourteen points
(01:37:48):
like that, it really makes it hard for a team
to overcome that early in the half. So and I
just felt like the offense controlled the line of scrimmage
the entire game, and then you know, as a defense,
we were able to get all quickly.
Speaker 6 (01:38:01):
And you know, the best defense is defense on the sideline,
Ain't that the truth?
Speaker 11 (01:38:06):
Thirty three minutes and thirty three seconds a time of
possession and the Steelers with a profound advantage in plays
run last night they had sixty two and the Dolphins
only had forty eight.
Speaker 6 (01:38:20):
That is way out of character for what the Steelers
had been this season. Long overdue. Yeah, something, they got it.
Speaker 11 (01:38:26):
They had to address it, and Mike Tomlins said they
had to win the game a certain way, and that
was the way, and that's the way.
Speaker 6 (01:38:33):
The game was won. Two in a row now, first time.
Speaker 11 (01:38:36):
The Steelers have gotten on a bit of a role
since winning three straight in late September and early October,
and the offense more than doing its part. But Aaron
Rodgers still wanted to talk about the defense.
Speaker 13 (01:38:49):
Well, I think the defense played really well last couple
of weeks. Obviously, we're up twenty eight to three. At
one point I thought I might get to take a
seat on the bench and let Mason get in there.
But they, you know, they got a good football players.
They made a couple of plays, but to hold him
the fifteen points this game we should win. Last week
twenty two points game, we should win. Offensively, I feel
like our got into a really good rhythm today, especially
(01:39:10):
second quarter on and it wasn't as fault in the
first quarter. We he's done next to you very well.
We put ourselves behind the chains few times, but him
and I got a really good relationship, you know, spent
a lot of time the other during the weeks, and
I felt like he was, you know, really good situationally
with the calls, and then we you know, we've converted
I think three fourth downs as well.
Speaker 11 (01:39:32):
Now that third quarter, Steelers up game to Dolphins one
hundred and sixty three to minus twenty. First downs were
nine to nothing, time of possession was eleven minutes to
four minutes, and the score was fourteenth for Pittsburgh zero
for Miami.
Speaker 7 (01:39:47):
The fourth during that cleanup time, I wanted to ask
you how much how many substitutions did they throw in there? Defensively,
it seemed like they were resting some players, and there
was a couple of names you don't normally here, you know,
Loganly or a little bit seazy at autum Wao or
well he was playing playing a lot. I mean, they're
(01:40:08):
down harm and so they had to rotate up front.
It's not like they put the second team in.
Speaker 6 (01:40:14):
That's what I'm asking you know.
Speaker 11 (01:40:15):
I wasn't the JV's fourth quarter, Miami turned the tables.
It was too little, too late.
Speaker 6 (01:40:24):
But the Dolphins had in the first three quarters combined,
had five first downs and ninety three total net yards.
Speaker 5 (01:40:30):
Wow, well I know it wasn't it minus twenty yards
total in the third quarter for the Dolphins.
Speaker 11 (01:40:35):
Yeah, that's just a crazy step and three points Miami got.
It was a fifty four yard field. Well, I didn't
think they're going to be able to make it because
I was watching that guy in warm up and he
was only one for three going to that end from
that distance. So I wasn't real confident they were even
going to get that. But complimentary football the kind you
gotta play if you're going to get better. Yeah, and
(01:40:57):
this is the time of the year where if you're
going to go anywhere, you got to get better.
Speaker 6 (01:41:02):
It was so good last night. Even Renegade got cheered.
Renegade's back. It's back.
Speaker 11 (01:41:09):
Cam Heyward understood why it had not been cheered during
that twenty six to seven debacle against Buffalo on November
the thirtieth, and after sure, I.
Speaker 22 (01:41:18):
Think it comes down to just owning and being accountable
of what you do. You know, understand, our fans are passionate,
but you know our players are passionate, our coaches are passionate.
We hold ourselves to a higher standard here, and you know,
when you play for a team like this that's had
a lot of success, and you know we're not responsible
(01:41:42):
for that. Those guys before, we're trying to grasp what
they did, but the expectations are high and we like
it that way.
Speaker 11 (01:41:53):
You know, the last two games, they played really well
against Minnesota in Dublin. I thought they played really well
against India Napolis when Indianapolis was still whole. But given
the circumstances and just all the chaos and noise and
negativity after that Bill's game, I think these last two
have been their best two games of the year. Winning
in Baltimore with everything at stake, and then building on that,
(01:42:16):
beating what had been a hot Dolphins team, if not
you know, a great Dolphins team, because they ain't great, no.
Speaker 7 (01:42:22):
But in those circumstances at home on Monday night with
eleven degree temperatures.
Speaker 6 (01:42:28):
They had to do what they did last night. So
I'm glad. I'm not overjoyed, but they took care business
and they did the thing they were supposed to do.
Speaker 11 (01:42:36):
Twenty three straight home wins on Monday night football is
the longest such streak in NFL history. Mike Tomlins twelve
and zero in those games, and to a false to
zero and sixth career.
Speaker 6 (01:42:48):
When it's below forty degrees. He made so many dumb
decisions last night.
Speaker 11 (01:42:52):
That's the problem when you play in a division with
New England and Buffalo. Yeah, no question, it's not the
SEC anymore. Long way from that, still was getting ready
for Detroit and Detroit his decision making is baffling.
Speaker 6 (01:43:07):
Well, he can't if the first read is not there,
something bad's gonna happen. But he doesn't even get rid
of the ball. I mean, he doesn't know what to
do with it after his first read has been determined
not to be there. He took two sacks last night
he did not have to take.
Speaker 11 (01:43:24):
Yeah, he actually made one play to a chan on
their field goal drive where he scrambled left and was
able to hit him. That was kind of an improv play.
You rarely see him do that, and that's also problem
because how often does it stay on script in the NFL?
Speaker 6 (01:43:41):
Yeah, how much you say to paying that guy fifty
three a year?
Speaker 5 (01:43:45):
Oh my god, fifty three million a year. When Ramsey
had the sack, I actually thought he threw the ball
away because he pushed him down. I'm like, oh, don't
get it, don't get a roughing the passer?
Speaker 6 (01:43:56):
Oh yeah, the ball?
Speaker 18 (01:43:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:43:58):
Yea man, how did he not throw it away?
Speaker 7 (01:44:01):
I mean, that was a nice game for Ramsey and
John Who against their former team last night.
Speaker 6 (01:44:05):
You know that had to feel good for both of them.
And then see you out for John Who.
Speaker 11 (01:44:09):
I mean, they even went they had lost Saamla by then,
and they still had Spencer Anderson be the seventy four
is elgible and they put Ryan McCollum into play left guard,
which he played a handful of snaps. Yeah, one game
ahead of Baltimore down the stretch, they come first tie
breaker is head to head, Pittsburgh obviously leads that one
to nothing. Second tiebreaker best one loss tide percentage in
(01:44:33):
games within the division. Pittsburgh's three and one Baltimore's three
and two. They still have a head to head to go.
Steelers still have a game at Cleveland, so.
Speaker 7 (01:44:41):
They would be if the Steelers lost under this scenario,
they'd be going to the third.
Speaker 11 (01:44:45):
Tiebreaker, which is best one loss tie percentage in common games.
Right now, Baltimore leads that seven and three are the Ravens.
Steelers are six and four. Baltimore's got to play New
England and green Bay, Pittsburgh place, Detroit and Cleveland. That
those are all common games, so that can still change.
Speaker 6 (01:45:05):
The Ravens did what against those teams.
Speaker 11 (01:45:08):
Seven and three so far, Pittsburgh is six and four
so far in common games. And then the last one,
which is probably what might win it best one loss
time percentage within the conference.
Speaker 6 (01:45:23):
Pittsburgh seven and three, Baltimore's five and five. So a
loss to the Patriots from the from the Ravens would
go a long way for the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
Yes, it would.
Speaker 11 (01:45:32):
Okay, Saturday Night Football, I'm just rooting like hell for
it not to come down to the last game.
Speaker 6 (01:45:38):
Coming up in the nine o'clock hour.

E Top five plays of the game last night and
the Steelers twenty eight fifteen victory over the Miami Dolphins
at number five. Second possession of the game for the
Dolphins in the first quarter, eight oh eight in the
first Tua just loses track of a Sante Samuel starting
(01:47:28):
instead of James Pierre, who was out with an injury
last night. Easy to do and h Yes, Assante comes
up big for your Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:47:37):
Back to pass, looking throwing left and locked it up
and picked up pitter sifted by a Sante Samuel.
Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
Welcome to Pittsburgh, Asante Samuel.
Speaker 6 (01:47:49):
That was like a longer version of the Lamar interception
from a week ago. What are you doing there?
Speaker 11 (01:47:55):
Or the Mason to metcalf in that waddle didn't exactly
easy to try to break that up right.
Speaker 6 (01:48:04):
Steelers get the ball back there, didn't do much with it. Though,
didn't do much.
Speaker 7 (01:48:08):
They did three and out in their first positions. They
kept the ball, kept them from scoring, which is big.
Speaker 5 (01:48:13):
At number four time running out in the first quarter, Hayward,
who'd been pretty successful. This was the first third down
they converted in the game for a touchdown with seventeen seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:48:27):
Left, Steel City Show gets a snap, try your right,
c Pittsburgh Steelers touchdown.
Speaker 6 (01:48:37):
Anything's better touch push? Oh, I like that, Steel City shove.
Speaker 10 (01:48:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:48:45):
Steelers go up seven to three there, and they get
the ball back to start the third quarter. Okay, what
do you do if you're Arthur Smith, Well, historically you
get Aaron Rodgers sacked on first down.
Speaker 6 (01:49:03):
Or you haven't fuffle it, then let the Bills pick
it up and run over the end. But not last night.
Speaker 7 (01:49:08):
They ran the ball and Gainwell, who got the lion's
share of carries last night, in part because Warren was
battling a brutal illness last night. He played pretty hard
through what was obviously I got he was very, very
sick and said he couldn't wait to go home and
go to bed after the game. And he took some
major hits last night. But Gainwell again, incredible for the Steelers.
(01:49:29):
And this one felt like as early as it was,
I think it was only the third play of that
drive to start the third quarter, it felt like, all right,
it's shifting.
Speaker 6 (01:49:40):
All the momentums going to the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:49:42):
Here snap comes and now game most starts and left
cuts back to the right, gets across the forty five,
fucks off the tackle into Dolphins territory. Inside the forty,
inside the thirty, down the right sideline, and close to
the twenty yard line. Gainwell rips off an enormous run
before Fitzpatrick can knock it out of it on to
the twenty a forty yard gallar.
Speaker 6 (01:50:03):
Good things happen when you run the ball, Mike.
Speaker 18 (01:50:08):
Well.
Speaker 11 (01:50:08):
Arthur Smith did acknowledge he got a little pass happy
in the Baltimore game.
Speaker 6 (01:50:14):
Not so much last night. Dick with the run at
number four.
Speaker 2 (01:50:22):
Or two.
Speaker 6 (01:50:22):
Sorry, I did it backwards.
Speaker 5 (01:50:25):
Hey, I didn't sleep either, Okay, hey, based off of
them setting up that running, gave five straight runs down
to the nineteen yard line.
Speaker 6 (01:50:36):
Beautiful play action.
Speaker 5 (01:50:38):
DK goes one way, Marquez Valdez Scalon goes the other way.
Speaker 6 (01:50:43):
You know, the one dog's going, what do you want
from the Steelers secondary? The Dolphin secondary goes, what do
you want from me?
Speaker 5 (01:50:51):
And for the fourteenth time, Aaron rodgers an mvs SOO
cup for a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (01:50:56):
Play action pass looking, steps up, throws to the right
to the left. I beg you parton touchdown, Pittsburgh Steeler.
How about that Marquezvaldez scantling with his first reception as
a member of the Steelers, and it is a Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 7 (01:51:12):
Touchdown eleven twenty five of the third quarter. Steelers go
up fourteen to three there, and it just felt like
the tide had really turned. And at number one, your
number one play of the game between the Dolphins and
the Steelers. Six minutes later in that same third quarter,
Aaron Rodgers across the middle.
Speaker 6 (01:51:32):
The middle the medal.
Speaker 5 (01:51:34):
You say to DK Metcalf, who tosses Manka aside, welcome.
Speaker 7 (01:51:40):
Back to the steel City. There's your Steel City shove.
At number one, Dka.
Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
Go over the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:51:46):
It is complete.
Speaker 3 (01:51:47):
The DK Metcalf hurls aside one defender stick Hartmann other
hand zone. But at Pittsburgh Steelers touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:51:55):
Whatever by DK Metcalf, single digit temperatures, bullying the opponent,
pushing guys aside, breaking tackles, getting in the end zone.
Speaker 6 (01:52:07):
That was Steeler football. That's what we're paying DK Metcalf for.
Speaker 7 (01:52:11):
Get rid of the Dolphins and set your sights on
the Detroit Lions Sunday in the Motor City.
Speaker 11 (01:52:19):
I think that's the kind of play a lot of
people expected to see more often from Meness. He doesn't
exactly play to his size all the time, no question.
He did on that one Welcome Home, Mika.
Speaker 2 (01:52:30):
Cash.
Speaker 6 (01:52:30):
He's about to touch push steel City shove. I'm sorry, yeah,
come out leaving Rogers back there.
Speaker 11 (01:52:37):
This is the dumbest narrative on the internet. He's back there,
he can get the ball, they can lateral to him.
There are eligibles all over the place. Some guy posted
a clip today goes playing ten on eleven stupid, and
there's a safety fifteen yards off the ball just in case.
Speaker 6 (01:52:53):
Rogers gets it, and he's a safety in case the
ball gets fumbled.
Speaker 11 (01:52:59):
Don't overthink it, Pepe seriously. Plus it's cool to see
him doing those gest respector yeah, there's stuff. You want
him to jog and stand on the sideline like they
might throw it to him, but it's everybody knows what
who's getting the ball.
Speaker 6 (01:53:16):
The variation is to hand it to a guy and
run around the edge. Okay, I understand it now. Uh
we're gonna be joined by Rob King. Sorry, I'm a
little cranky on some things.
Speaker 7 (01:53:27):
What I think it's because he does like the hands
on the hips like he's about to do the three
Amigos thing.
Speaker 22 (01:53:33):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:53:36):
He might or if it was like a guy that
could run fast, they say they pitch it to like
a wide receiver. He turns around, pitch it in the
ice sprints. Yes, but Rogers is not out running anybody
or tackling anybody. If there's a fumble, it's not like
they have eleven guys right at the point of attack.
Speaker 6 (01:53:52):
And it makes it hard.
Speaker 11 (01:53:54):
That's why it's so effective, because there are things that
you have to account for, and if you don't, I'll
start on it. You got a pretty good shot at
converting it. They ran it twice in a row for
a first down three out of four, right, I believe,
so got stopped once, two first downs on the touch.
Yeah that you know that that first down in the
(01:54:14):
first quarter going forward on fourth, I'm underrating that. I
think that that set a tone and that was that
was pretty ballsy decision agreed on the way for you
as far took one for the Pittsburgh twenty nine.
Speaker 6 (01:54:29):
Yeah, it was in my tone. Wait, no, I'm sorry
they punted that one.
Speaker 11 (01:54:33):
This was fourth and one from the Pittsburgh twenty eight
they were second possession, they went for it.
Speaker 6 (01:54:37):
I thought it was huge.
Speaker 9 (01:54:40):
Well set the tone too, Yeah, that they weren't going
to live in their fears.
Speaker 5 (01:54:44):
That's right, Rob King. Well, hopefully he got a few
hours of sleep, Kinger, and he'll join us and he's fought.
Speaker 6 (01:54:50):
Out by now.
Speaker 5 (01:54:51):
Probably Okay, Yeah, Mike got much less sleep, is what
Mike is trying to say.
Speaker 6 (01:54:55):
Mike, when he leaves, I take over. Yeah, so I
hope he's all right. What time did you finish the
post game on two o'clock?
Speaker 9 (01:55:00):
Older man?
Speaker 18 (01:55:02):
Damn?
Speaker 6 (01:55:03):
You said somebody was bitching about Connor Haywood last night? Yeah,
oh that must have.
Speaker 5 (01:55:11):
Yeah, not not the game to do that touchdown, two
fourth down conversions and saved an on side kick.
Speaker 11 (01:55:18):
We got another bitch about how they're terrible when there's
just around two minutes left and they have the ball
because they always give it back to the offense. And
the four examples cited, we're all games they won Baltimore.
Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
Yeah, that's a Steeler fan therever was one. Welcome to
the postgame show. After the Steelers have won Super Bowl fifty,
What do you think.
Speaker 6 (01:55:39):
Never do it again?
Speaker 18 (01:55:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:55:41):
All right, when we come back, Rob King Joe Barney
changing in studio with us as well. Don't forget this
week's WDV bud Like game day bar the week Royce
Pub in Union Town this NFL season. Stopping Roy's Pub
and enjoy two dollars bud Light drafts during Steelers games.
Speaker 6 (01:55:54):
Butt Light, easy to drink, easy to enjoy.
Speaker 25 (01:55:57):
Wherever you're driving DVE. He has everything you need for
the drive. Chad Tyson Rox Pittsburgh weekday afternoons on DVV.
He also has a reloaded cut from the DVE Morning
Show and Sports News. Look, there's a roadside up ahead,
it says Chad Tyson afternoons on DVE.
Speaker 6 (01:56:18):
Hey, it's Randy guaranteed human.
Speaker 4 (01:56:29):
Stealer's showing a little bit of pressure here. Now they're
going to bring four. Wilson comes late and the blitz
it here comes. Ramsey gets him on his sack back
of the thirty yard line. Chain Ramsey with his third
sack of the.
Speaker 5 (01:56:44):
Season two holding on to the ball a little longer
than he should have in a couple of instances last night,
Steelers defense.
Speaker 7 (01:56:51):
Held the Dolphins pretty much until he became a twenty
eight to three game and then they kind of relaxed
a little bit and let it let it look a
little bit closer than it actually was last night. Joining
us right now, the author of that play call here
on the Steelers Audio Network, and it's time for a
power hour of Steeler Talk here on DV. In this
(01:57:11):
half hour of the Power Hours, brought to you by
your neighborhood Ford store, the F one fifty, the official
truck of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 6 (01:57:18):
Rob King joining us, Kinger, Good morning, buddy, How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
Good morning guys? How you doing? What a fun win
for the Pittsburgh Steelers last night.
Speaker 5 (01:57:26):
It really was the fact that I didn't go to
bed full of stress and cortisol shooting through my veins.
Was it felt like such a gift, Like what a
delightful way to enter into this, you know, the holiday
season here by not being stressed out for once on
a late night game. When the Steelers play in primetime,
it seems like it always goes down to the wire,
(01:57:49):
and Mike McDaniel, head coach of the Dolphins, said as
much at halftime.
Speaker 6 (01:57:52):
He said, I think this one's going to go down
to the bitter end.
Speaker 7 (01:57:55):
Unless that was not the case, King, or they kind
of put their feet on their throat there in the
second half.
Speaker 14 (01:58:01):
Yeah, I was trying to think back, you know, as
you were talking, Randy about the most complete games the
Steelers have played, and you know, the one in Ireland
was really was a really complete game until the Vikings
somehow got back in it late.
Speaker 2 (01:58:15):
The Dolphins didn't get back at this one late. The Steelers.
You know, it was kind of it was a really
sluggish start to the game.
Speaker 14 (01:58:21):
I don't know how it felt at home watching it
on TV if you're in the stands, but you know,
the Steelers with that late score at the end of
the first half and then the way they came out
in the in the second half. That's been something that's
been an issue for them and something that I hope
that they've they've fixed over the last couple of weeks,
which is these games in which you have the lead
at the half and you come out in the second
half and you take your first possession and you put
(01:58:43):
up points. Last week, it was a field goal against Baltimore.
This week it was a touchdown, So love that. Loved that,
and I just felt like, you know, at some point,
this was no longer a game. I mean, they just
they they took it to him and it was fun
to watch.
Speaker 6 (01:58:59):
Yeah, I mean to his numbers. We were talking about
it earlier. It looked a lot better than it actually was.
Speaker 5 (01:59:03):
Twenty two of twenty eight for two hundred and fifty
three yards, two touchdowns and a pick hit one hundred
and thirteen point two QBR.
Speaker 6 (01:59:09):
But he wasn't good last night.
Speaker 7 (01:59:12):
And I don't know if it was the temperatures or
what you could blame it on, but the Steelers missing
some key components defensively, I'm surprised they didn't just stick
with the run all night and just try to develop
that against that the leaguer to Steelers defensive line, well,
the leaguer is probably the wrong word, because they played
(01:59:32):
pretty well, but for one or two chunks that a
Chan was able to get I was surprised.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
You know, I agree with you. You know I would
have run it on first down, second yes, third down,
fourth down.
Speaker 6 (01:59:44):
Four, which is what the Steelers finally did to start
the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:59:48):
Killer. Oh, I'm said about the Dolphins.
Speaker 5 (01:59:50):
Me too, I'm saying, but that used to be my
complaint about the Steelers, Like if you run it three
straight times, you have to punt Okay.
Speaker 14 (01:59:58):
Right, Well, I thought the Steelers had a good balance
last night, and I understand you know, look, I think
we've all wanted to see more from the running game
when when you look at what they accomplished last night,
one hundred and thirty five yards rushing and some of
that was, you know, tougher sledding as the game goes
on and the Dolphins kind of know they're going to
run it.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
But they had a possession. I think it was when
they'd gone up.
Speaker 14 (02:00:17):
I believe it was when they'd gone up twenty one
to three, and they it might have been the fourteen
to three drive.
Speaker 2 (02:00:21):
They came out in a.
Speaker 14 (02:00:22):
Huddle and I you know, look, they they showed aggressiveness
last night. They went for fourth down in their own territory,
it's their own twenty nine yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:00:31):
I think it was, yes, uh you know the uh so.
Speaker 14 (02:00:34):
We were trying to decide abby whether it was Max
likes Max like Steel City Shove. Wes Euler was was
opting for Pittsburgh plunge. I kind of like them both.
Speaker 2 (02:00:47):
You know, Max, Max is the guys who were calling
it the Steel City.
Speaker 6 (02:00:50):
Shove, but Steel City Shove.
Speaker 9 (02:00:52):
Sorry, Wes.
Speaker 2 (02:00:53):
Okay, all right there we go.
Speaker 14 (02:00:54):
So so you know, look they went for they went
forward on fourth down and got it in their own deep,
in their own teary you know, at an important moment
of the game and as far as momentum and that
sort of thing, and then they came out in no
huddle and attacked. They didn't sit back on the lead.
You know, they did late in the game, but by
then it was academic. I just thought it was an
aggressive attacking game for the Steelers. They ran for one
(02:01:17):
hundred and thirty five yards. You know, Aaron Rodgers, I thought,
once again, completely in command, I mean against the Ravens.
He was zipping it all over the place last night,
just taking what was given him and letting, you know,
DK Metcalf and others make plays.
Speaker 2 (02:01:32):
I just thought it was a pretty complete offensive performance.
Speaker 7 (02:01:35):
Well, you know, Mike pointed this out earlier, earlier in
the show that in the first quarter it might have
been like one of the first throws of the night.
He had feeling one on one with a chance for
a you know, a shotdown field, and he consciously dumps
it off to gain well there, and it was almost
as if they wanted to reduce the amount of risk
(02:01:58):
last night two inch, sure they kept time of possession
and had a more sort of rhythmic, methodical start to
that game, because even when that SHOT's there a guy
who's only been there two weeks and it's eleven degrees
out last night, and maybe you are better off to
just take the short thing there. There was one time
late in the game where he did have game well
for a first down and he just he wanted something
(02:02:20):
bigger and on third and three, and he ended up
I think taking a sack on that one. But by
and large, I thought that that was the Aaron Rodgers
that we were counting on all year, the guy who
manages the game and sees things that other quarterbacks don't,
including a guy running off the field that's right, you know,
that would give you a too many men on the
field penalty, which I thought, you know, there's just not
(02:02:42):
a lot of guys who are going to hurry up
and do that and then tell the refs they missed.
Speaker 2 (02:02:46):
It exactly, you know, exactly, Yeah, yeah, you know.
Speaker 14 (02:02:49):
He brings those things that few, if any other quarterbacks
in NFL history can bring.
Speaker 2 (02:02:55):
The ability to dissect.
Speaker 14 (02:02:57):
I mean, he's top of the food chain when it
comes to that, and so that's something you know, the
the finding the guys running off the field, that's something
you know. The processing speed, the ability to throw to
the right person, that's something we've seen. The arm strength
still there. Yeah, there's times where the times where the
mobility hasn't been as good. I didn't think it was
(02:03:18):
as good in in you know, against the Chargers, one
or two other games the Jets at the beginning of
the year. But you know, think about him running around
against Cincinnati, think about it. Even last night he ducked
out of some some pressure situation. So I just think
the last couple of weeks and and for most of
the season, you know, he had he had a stretch
(02:03:38):
of two or three game where he wasn't at his
best and the offense wasn't at his best. But he
by and large is a big upgrade at the quarterback position.
It's been a while since we've seen quarterback play of
this quality. And it's one of the reasons that I
thought the students, you know, I've been kind of harping
on this all year long, had an opportunity to be
(02:03:58):
better than they were a year ago.
Speaker 2 (02:04:00):
Because I think the roster is better, and I think
the quarterback's better.
Speaker 5 (02:04:03):
Well, how much of Aaron Rodgers looking better has to
do with Scanton and feeling being in there.
Speaker 2 (02:04:10):
I mean, I think they had what one catch each?
Speaker 14 (02:04:13):
Thelon had one catch, Marquez Valdez Scanton had one catch.
You know, theling brings you the ability to block as well,
you know, I mean, I'm sure that those guys are there.
They they bring you some comfort. I like the fact
that he went to Friarmuth, you know, I I you
know he said this before I find the guys who
were open. And I really, I truly believe that's what
(02:04:33):
he's doing. I mean, that's you go through your progression tour.
In his case, it's already done, probably before the ball snapped,
and you go to the guy who's open. And that
was Darnell Washington A few times last night that was
that was Friarmuth, by the way, I think, I I
think I made.
Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
Earthworm into a verb last night. He earthwormed.
Speaker 6 (02:04:50):
Somebody's like that.
Speaker 14 (02:04:52):
I mean, these guys come up and they are trying
to get so low and he just lowers his head
and just leaves him.
Speaker 6 (02:04:59):
I think I should jump over a couple of those guys.
Speaker 2 (02:05:02):
I mean, well he did that last time and got hurt.
Speaker 14 (02:05:04):
Was that what he got hurt? I can't remember if
that's when he got hurt. Yeah he could, he'll he'll
bring that in.
Speaker 2 (02:05:09):
I'm sure.
Speaker 6 (02:05:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:05:10):
He's just so massive and they were able to get
the ball to him. Last night's three receptions for twenty
five yards. Credit to Arthur Smith too for you know,
he said he got pass happy against Baltimore.
Speaker 6 (02:05:23):
It just establishing that run.
Speaker 7 (02:05:25):
And with Jalen Warren questionable to even play last night
before the game, he ends up playing. He was sick
those guys. You know, our buddy Joe Barnicon studio with
us here this morning.
Speaker 5 (02:05:36):
The Dolphins came out and were absolutely lay in the wood.
I mean they were crushing the Steelers on defense to
the point where Jalen Warren usually bounces off and gets
a few more yards after contact, and last night he
was just going down like a rock.
Speaker 6 (02:05:55):
Oh, I thought Joe was gonna expect Uh well yeah, well, Rob,
could you could hear the pops? You had to hear
the booths. We can hear it on television. Yeah.
Speaker 14 (02:06:06):
Yeah, it's a hard hitting game. And you know you
see this though, right like teams come out and used
to see this with Jerome.
Speaker 2 (02:06:13):
Bettis right. Tons used to talk about this all the time.
Speaker 14 (02:06:16):
You come out and you're fired up, and you you know,
you want to be physical against Jerome, and if you're
the Dolphins, I'm sure you want to put the narrative
behind you that you don't do well in freezing cold
temperatures below freezing cold temperatures, and so you know, you
come out, you're you're hitting guys and then you know,
Tons used to describe it as guys finding convenient angles
to miss Jerome late in the game. Ah, geez, you
(02:06:37):
know I bad angle their coach. Yeah, so uh And
I think by the by the time this game was over,
you saw a lot of Dolphins getting up slowly. And
and why does that happen? Well, first of all, you
match your physicality or to exceed it. And then secondly,
you control the clock, You run more plays than the
other team for the first time all year, you win
the time of possession. They're out there for a long time.
(02:07:00):
You're moving forward, they're moving backward. I mean, as great
a player as micka Fitzpatrick is, he was slow to
get up several times and as much as he likes
to bring the hitting.
Speaker 2 (02:07:09):
He was slow getting up a few times. The suit
is just warmed down and it was good to see,
you know, thirty two rushes, twenty.
Speaker 14 (02:07:15):
Seven pass attempts. You know the balance there offensively for
the team. Like I said at the beginning, this is
the most complete game the Steelers played for most of
the game. You know, again, a couple of garbage touchdowns,
but you know this is a good, complete win against
a team that had.
Speaker 2 (02:07:31):
Won four in a row.
Speaker 7 (02:07:32):
Yeah, and I thought it was a nice moment last
night when the Steelers, you know, his former teammates were
out on the field making sure he was okay when
Mika was hurt late in the game. But boy, he
got postered by DK on that touchdown and just flung
aside like a rag doll. That was the play that
we thought we'd be seeing a lot more from DK
this year, you know, making things happen. I think that
(02:07:56):
defense at that point was pretty well beat up and
absolutely freezing in the second half. But a huge second
effort from DK metcalf to get that touchdown because you know,
first and goal is not a sure thing with this
Steeler team.
Speaker 14 (02:08:11):
Well, I mean they've been pretty good in the red zone.
But I will say that the Steelers offense, I will
say this, I'd like to see him get them more often.
Obviously we all would, but you know, Dk, you know,
he and Darnell they just cannot be fun to tackle.
And you get guys like you know, Gainwell and Joe
and Warren run really really hard and they are looking
(02:08:34):
to hit guys, and you know, I remember, you know,
we've talked about this a little bit by the Steelers'
front office, really trying to get the Steelers back to
their roots, back to being a physical football team.
Speaker 2 (02:08:47):
And you know that was on display last night. A
team that you know, again no Derek Harmon, no TJ.
Speaker 22 (02:08:52):
Watt.
Speaker 14 (02:08:52):
Defensively, I thought Cam Hayward played a great game last
night for the Steelers. But you know, they this is
what they want to be, A physical, hard hitting team,
a team you know, at the end of the game
you felt that you played. Oh boy, man, we played
the Pittsburgh Steelers and that's you know, that's how they were,
you know, two decades ago with Jerome Bettis and with
(02:09:13):
that defense.
Speaker 2 (02:09:14):
You know, they were a team that in December up there,
it was cold. Wo man, do you really want to
play that team.
Speaker 14 (02:09:21):
I thought we saw some manifestations of that last night.
You know, they a physical, hard hitting football team that
takes it to the other team. And that's that works.
Whether it's ninety five degrees in Miami or whether it's
eleven degrees in Pittsburgh, that kind of play is always
going to work.
Speaker 5 (02:09:40):
I thought Metcalf had the official steel City shove.
Speaker 6 (02:09:44):
Oh yeah, make it right to the.
Speaker 2 (02:09:48):
Oh thanks, thank you.
Speaker 22 (02:09:49):
It was.
Speaker 14 (02:09:49):
I mean, guys were tumbling and you know, and again
when you talk about the physical element, you know, you
know DK Metcalf and and Darnel Washington. There are others too,
but those two guys in particular, you know, Johnny Smith,
you know, these guys are no joke when they get ahead,
his team going, you know, I mean trying to tackle
these guys. In addition to the running backs, you know what,
the students are physical in the passing game as well.
Speaker 2 (02:10:11):
And that's that's kind of fun to see.
Speaker 5 (02:10:13):
Back to your earlier point, I guess I'm just traumatized
by all the short third and shorts that we've been
unable to get this year.
Speaker 6 (02:10:20):
In the red zone.
Speaker 7 (02:10:20):
Steelers are actually tied for third when it comes to
touchdown success with the Rams and the Washington Commanders. Aaron
Rodgers was feeling himself last night after the game. He
was in a good mood. He was talking to ESPN
Deportase after the game, King here, listen to this, and I.
Speaker 26 (02:10:37):
Do love I love being here in the city. I
loved organization. It's been a lot of fun for me
to be able to play for Mike Tomlin. There's a
lot of good guys on this team, Guys that care
about it, guys that feel like they've got a lot
to prove. But my one question is, what the hell
is my tequila?
Speaker 5 (02:11:00):
Yeah, apparently he's got a deal for some tequila from
the deports as reporter there. He gives me Spanish too.
Rogers went on, he was speaking Spanish with him last night.
Speaker 2 (02:11:09):
But yeah, he's he's I don't know.
Speaker 14 (02:11:12):
I don't know if you guys remember him being on Jeopardy,
not just the host, but he was on Jeopardy. I
think he I don't I can't remember who he competed against,
like an astronaut or something, and he just demolished everybody
in Jeopardy. You know, certainly he is, he is a
bright guy. And uh, you know, and that's why he
(02:11:34):
processes so well at the line of scrimmage. But yeah,
fun to you know, it's all fun when you're winning.
And right now, look, man, it's December and the Steelers
are playing I think they're playing their best foot I
think these are the best two back to back games
they had all year.
Speaker 5 (02:11:47):
Agreed, Uh, let's go through some of the people who
we saw last night who you don't normally see in
the first Sante Samuel.
Speaker 14 (02:11:55):
Yeah, yeah, nice to see him get a start. And look,
this guy was a really he's a really good player.
He had the neck injury, the surgery. You know, teams
didn't sign him. He was listed as a top twenty
five free agent in the offseason. Definitely a starting caliber
corner and you know, the Steelers were hoping slave was
(02:12:15):
going to be that guy. He didn't turn out to
be that guy. You know, they've had some injuries there
as well. You know, he is a he's a guy
that can really cover. I think he was talking to
somebody about, you know, he's not the biggest guy, but
being more physical than he's been giving credit for, but
having to kind of protect that with his neck, you know,
as a guy who can cover. You know, if if,
(02:12:35):
if you can sign a guy like that, you know,
these are these are guys that you have to go
out and get in the first round of the draft usually.
So if he's a guy that likes it here, plays well, contributes,
the team goes on a run and they can re
sign him. That is a really good pick up, especially
when you have guys like Eccles. You know, Pierre was
out of this game. Eccles and Pierre stepping up as well.
(02:12:57):
Joey Porter Junior on the other side, I really like
a Santa Samuel and it was nice to see him
come up with a big.
Speaker 6 (02:13:03):
Play last night.
Speaker 5 (02:13:03):
Joy Putter Junior having a heck of a year too.
Dylan Brooks left tackle last night.
Speaker 2 (02:13:08):
Yeah Cook is there.
Speaker 14 (02:13:09):
You know he's their court I said Brook Dylan Cook. Yeah, well,
he's their fourth string left tackle.
Speaker 6 (02:13:14):
Think about that.
Speaker 14 (02:13:15):
You know, we were watching him up in camp the
last couple of years. Felt like he was a guy
that was close to being ready to play. Now I
say that, I'm talking to others who say that, you know,
Max has been you know, he liked Dylan Cook what
he's seen in camp the last couple of years and
you know, getting his first real taste of NFL action
and stood up really well. And again this is why,
(02:13:38):
you know, when we came when the Steelers came out
of camp, we were talking about how deep the Steelers
team was, the amount of depth they had. And you're
seeing that with guys like Eccles and you know, Malik
Harrison contributing, and you know, now you sign a Sante Samuel,
but you know these guys I did I just say.
Speaker 2 (02:13:58):
Eccles, I can't remember. It's early in the morning.
Speaker 14 (02:14:00):
You know, these guys that have the depth, guys that
have that have stepped to the four like Dylan Cook
and literally your fourth offensive tackle and to come in
and do a job. I don't remember Bradley Chubb doing
anything last night. It's a two time All Pro who's
been playing well.
Speaker 7 (02:14:16):
For the dolphense Gainwell has been outstanding this year. I
think that he has been so much more than most
Steeler fans expected, that's for sure, even though coach Tomlin
always says that no, no, this is what I knew
we were getting. You know, hey, the Eagles running game
has suffered quite a bit actually since he's been gone.
You know, you could kind of look at it that way,
but last night having to lean on him, I mean,
(02:14:38):
there's just I don't think anybody that Aaron Rodgers and
Mike Tomlin trust more than Kenneth Gainwell, right.
Speaker 14 (02:14:46):
Now, yeah, I agreed, And we saw this in Minnesota
when Jalen couldn't go, and last night extremely efficient. Thirteen
carries for eighty yards, he had seven receptions, led the
team in that category. And it's almost as if they're interchangeable,
you know. I mean a lot of times you'll have backs, Okay,
this is a third down back, and when everybody's healthy,
(02:15:07):
game will comes out and plays on third down.
Speaker 2 (02:15:09):
But Jayalen Morton was a third down back last year.
Speaker 14 (02:15:11):
And you know, we've seen when Gain has gotten the
opportunity that the students offense hasn't missed a beat.
Speaker 2 (02:15:17):
He's been terrific.
Speaker 14 (02:15:19):
And again, you talk about quality depth, and it comes
in different ways. Sometimes it's a guy who wasn't playing,
like Dylan Cook who's on the practice squad. Sometimes it's
a guy who you expect to run say six, seven
times a game. Now he's got to run it, you know,
thirteen times, or as he did in Ireland, more than
that and he can step up and fill that role.
(02:15:40):
That's again, that's quality depth. He's a quality player. You know,
those guys all get along in that running back room.
There's no jealousy there, which is nice to You don't
hear any complaining. They support each other and gain well.
You know a couple of times this year has when
called upon, has stepped up and taking the big role.
Speaker 6 (02:16:02):
He makes big plays.
Speaker 5 (02:16:04):
Yes, when you need a third down, when he's made
some catches where it seems like most guys would drop
that ball.
Speaker 6 (02:16:09):
Oh he'll make a catch it you just need he's clutch.
Speaker 7 (02:16:12):
Yeah, Rogers has thrown him a few go get hims
and he I mean pulling him off of his shoelaces
and then picking up and getting the first down. He's
been just tough as nails and as reliable as anybody
on this offense.
Speaker 2 (02:16:26):
Yep.
Speaker 14 (02:16:26):
And I think one other guy and I don't know
if you're going to get to him, but you know
Connor Hayward, Yes, what a nice game for him, right,
four carries, three first downs, a touchdown, and then just
when you're thinking, oh no, man, that when that on
side kick gets by that first row, You're like dealing.
Speaker 2 (02:16:42):
Uh, and there he is.
Speaker 14 (02:16:44):
You know, he's just like I think, he's a security
blanket in so many ways. You know, if you had injuries,
he could go in and play running back for you.
We know he can catch. You know, maybe they've got
better guys at some of those positions, but to have
a guy, you know, like a Connor Hayward, like Scotty Miller,
I think is a guy like that. Oh man, we
got to Okay, I'm gonna go be the gunner. Okay,
(02:17:04):
I'm gonna hold for kicks. I'm gonna return punts. You know,
guys that can help you in a number of different ways,
even if they're not called upon to do it all
the time. I would imagine those are really comfortable guys
for a coaching staff to have.
Speaker 7 (02:17:19):
The kickers continue to have a ridiculous year, and it's
even bled over to the on side kicks.
Speaker 6 (02:17:24):
Do you see how they're doing those now side to side?
Speaker 18 (02:17:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:17:26):
I mean that those are hard as hell to pick
off the carpet, yep.
Speaker 2 (02:17:30):
Yeah. And I think it was the Saints.
Speaker 14 (02:17:33):
You know, I watch, as you guys know, I watched
the opponents games more to get a feel for just
a general feel rather playing and obviously to be able
to identify him when they're out in the field, so
it's more second nature. I think it was the Saints
who recovered an on side kick against the Dolphins, so
it is, you know, it's gone from something that was
(02:17:56):
you know, you could use it as a weapon, Bill Cower, right,
you know, come out and eat the surprise on.
Speaker 2 (02:18:01):
Side kick and all these other things, and you can't
do that anymore. You have to announce it.
Speaker 14 (02:18:06):
But I do think that it's it's, you know, a
play that seemed to become academic because the surprise element
was taken out of it. But now you're right, Randy,
all of a sudden, the kickers have found different ways
to try to give their team an opportunity to recover
those of those kicks.
Speaker 7 (02:18:23):
Well, they showed the draft clock quite a bit last
night during the television broadcast.
Speaker 5 (02:18:27):
But this just in from ESPN's Dave Wilson. If the
Steelers were hoping on landing the next Manning, they're gonna
have to wait another year, as arch Manning has declared
he's going back to Texas for the twenty twenty six campaign.
I'm sure how much of a surprise that is or not,
but or if they would have even gone in that direction.
But I kind of think Aaron Rodgers is going to
(02:18:49):
come back and play another year right now.
Speaker 2 (02:18:53):
Well, we'll see, we'll see, you know.
Speaker 14 (02:18:54):
I mean, I think that's Aaron's gonna have a lot
to say about that, and I don't know what he's
going to say about that, and probably the playoff run
and what they do that might have something to say
about that as well. I will tell you this, I
mean again, with a couple of exceptions, I just think
he's looked outstanding.
Speaker 6 (02:19:14):
I didn't think he'd stay healthy this long.
Speaker 2 (02:19:16):
Well, the offensive line's done a good job.
Speaker 14 (02:19:18):
And the other thing is is he just he for
the most part, knows how to get rid of the football,
you know, knows how to avoid those hits.
Speaker 7 (02:19:28):

Speaker 11 (02:20:13):
Aaron Rodgers was in command again last night in the
steelers twenty eight fifteen victory over the Dolphins. That's two
in a row for the Steelers and the arrow seems
to be pointing up. But what really seemed to get Rogers'
attention was how well Kenneth Gainwell played again.
Speaker 13 (02:20:31):
Yeah, I mean it's I've been truly every game. I
think they run that he had thirty eight yards, I
believe on just as simple inside his own week, just
his vision. It's just fun to watch, you know. I
can't tell you exactly what I call him every week
because there's some expletives in there, But I love playing
with him, I really do. I mean, he is as
(02:20:53):
smart as they come. He is super smart, and I
still cannot believe what we got him for. I told
him a long time ago my goal was to get
him paid because I've been a fan of his since
he was in Philly and thought that every time he
went the game, something good happens. And just to be
able to play with him and the type of guy
that he is. Man, I can't say enough good things
(02:21:15):
about Kenny. Every single game, it seems like he comes
up with impactful plays and makes guys miss and catches
the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:21:22):
Man I was telling.
Speaker 10 (02:21:25):
I think it was Marquez on the sideline.
Speaker 13 (02:21:26):
I just like one of the most impressive things is
to watch us, like on Friday practice run just do
Paton Godrill, which is just an over the shoulder drill.
He's as fluid as anybody on the team catching the football.
And again for a guy that's making damn near vet minimum,
he's been a tremendous asset to our team this year.
Speaker 5 (02:21:44):
Well, king Or, we were just singing his praises, and
I think that Aaron Rodgers is going to succeed in
his quest to get Kenneth Gainwell paid good.
Speaker 2 (02:21:53):
For him, man, I love that.
Speaker 14 (02:21:54):
You know, we all meet an Aaron Rodgers at our corner, right,
I mean, how good is that? If you're Kenneth Ainwell
and game on has been that good? He you know,
when called upon, he's been excellent and even in the
role he's filled, he's been excellent.
Speaker 2 (02:22:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (02:22:07):
Fourth game over one hundred yards from scrimmage for Gamewell
last night he had eighty rushing and forty six receiving.
In those receiving yards seven catches on seven targets.
Speaker 6 (02:22:20):
His cap hit is just under one point eight million
per year.
Speaker 11 (02:22:24):
His base salary's one million, one hundred and seventy thousand.
He also got a six hundred and twenty thousand dollars
signing bonus and an eighty eight hundred and twenty dollars
workout bonus.
Speaker 6 (02:22:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:22:37):
How about Aaron Rodgers knowing how much he makes too? Yeah,
it's unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (02:22:40):
Do you think Kenneth Gamewell might kill for him? Now,
that's what he's gonna say. That's such a good way
to motivate. So in the leadership. Oh God, he loves me,
he wants me to have money.
Speaker 11 (02:22:50):
But I mean, I mentioned those one hundred yards from
scrimmage games for Gamewell. Three of them have come in
the last five, so he's getting better, not worse. And
that thirty eight yard run that he had, he went
through safety Ashton Davis. We went through them, and that's
how big runs happen. You need the receivers to help
block and get getting the way downfield. But I can
(02:23:13):
remember these type of play for bettis called boss and
it was back on strong safety. That's why they called
it boss. We're blocking everybody else. You got the strong safety.
You got to make him miss, right, and that's that's
not uncommon in a running play. And Kenneth gagwell, boy,
I just I still can't believe he runs between the tackles.
(02:23:33):
I thought he was going to be a special teamer
and a fringe contributor on the perimeter. Maybe one guy
would line up in a receiver position on third down
and help fill the void there.
Speaker 6 (02:23:46):
He's been outstanding.
Speaker 7 (02:23:47):
But I don't want to sell Jalen Warren short because
I think Jalen Warren has been also tough as nails,
and I think that him even playing in that game
as sick as he was last night was quite an accomplishment.
The only difference I saw in him was the second
effort that you usually see from him. Didn't look like
he quite had the energy that he normally does.
Speaker 2 (02:24:06):
There.
Speaker 7 (02:24:06):
He was taking and absorbing some pretty big hits and
going down where usually you can count on him to
spin off those every once in a while and run
through those.
Speaker 6 (02:24:14):
He makes guys miss a lot, and he runs over
guys a lot, and Miami was playing physical defense. They
really were. Didn't lose interest immediately. Eventually, yes, but not immediately.
Speaker 7 (02:24:26):
Twenty one nothing or twenty one three made it kind
of like if we stop him here, and when they
got that taunting penalty.
Speaker 6 (02:24:34):
It was over. Yeah, and then they just piled on
from there.
Speaker 11 (02:24:37):
Cam Heyward happy with the defense, but not ready after
the run had been stuffed to issue any defensive declarations.
Speaker 6 (02:24:47):
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (02:24:48):
You know, we got a lot of work to do, and.
Speaker 22 (02:24:51):
We got a lot in front of us, and I
love the challenges there in front of us, and I
think our group does too.
Speaker 6 (02:24:59):
Some snap count nuggets for you. DK Metcalf led the
wide receiver parade at seventy nine percent of the snaps.
Adam Thielen second again at fifty eight. He only had
one target in one catch.
Speaker 11 (02:25:12):
Marquez Valdez Scantling third among wide receivers in terms of
how often he was deployed fifty two percent of the
offensive snaps. He had the nineteen yard touchdown grab. Those
guys are assimilating quickly, and the more they play, the
more they're gonna do. No question, Feeling's the guy. He's
(02:25:34):
not physical, but he doesn't turn down his blocking assignment.
If he's in the slot, he'll find his guy getting
the way and help. He sticks his hand in that
pile and you saw that Scanting still knows how to
catch touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (02:25:49):
Pat Freyermuth.
Speaker 5 (02:25:51):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (02:25:51):
Forty two percent of the snaps last night, he had
forty five receiving yards. In his four previous games, he
had forty seven. They got to find a way to
activate this guy more often, huh, because he's a good
player and they're wasting it. And I get that, Yeah,
I throw it to who's open and all that. Sometimes
sometimes you got to dial one up for number eighty
(02:26:13):
eight because he's not going to let you down.
Speaker 6 (02:26:15):
He's been pretty.
Speaker 7 (02:26:17):
Professional and how he's handled it all too very because
you can see somebody being super pissed off about getting
paid and have, you know, being told basically you're our
guy and then essentially being removed from the offense.
Speaker 6 (02:26:33):
He's like, you know, he has backup player stats.
Speaker 5 (02:26:35):
Wouldn't it be madder though if you didn't get paid
yet at least he got the money.
Speaker 6 (02:26:40):
Yeah, also on the bench, Yeah, oh well I got
to go to the bank now.
Speaker 2 (02:26:45):
But I don't know.
Speaker 11 (02:26:46):
I mean, he's a competitor. He doesn't have that kind
of he cares they're they're wasting it. It's if you
look at him for ways that they can still be better.
That would be one to to get him involved more
often on the defensive side. Alex high Smith, with no TJ.
Speaker 6 (02:27:04):
Watt, played eighty eight percent of the defensive snaps, most
he had played since the opener against the Jets, when
he played eighty nine percent. Also Jack Sawyer a season
high fifty six percent and Brandon Eckels thirty four percent.
Speaker 11 (02:27:21):
Is the nickel corner. They were in base a lot
less night. Even though they didn't have Watt and didn't
have Harmon and base base defense, the three down lineman
did its job.
Speaker 5 (02:27:32):
Speaking of competitive do you think Warren played because he
didn't want to be wally pipped.
Speaker 6 (02:27:36):
I don't think he's.
Speaker 7 (02:27:37):
Worried about that so much, mostly because I don't think
they'll be able to keep gain well next year.
Speaker 6 (02:27:42):
I think that he is going to get paid.
Speaker 7 (02:27:45):
But I think he's actually a tough dude, and when
you talk to Jalen Warren, he's impossible to not root for.
He's just a He's a good guy, and I think
that he handled last season great and a lot of
people wanted the offense to run through him last year,
and seeing it happen to the degree that it has
this year, I think he proved a lot of people
(02:28:06):
wrong who thought, oh no, he's just a complimentary back.
He is operating best as that, no doubt. But when
they have needed to lean on him and he's been
available for that, I don't think they've suffered.
Speaker 6 (02:28:18):
Mike, you disagree.
Speaker 11 (02:28:21):
I'm not disappointed in him, but I'm not sure still
that he's.
Speaker 2 (02:28:26):
A number one.
Speaker 6 (02:28:27):
They don't use him enough.
Speaker 2 (02:28:29):
Well.
Speaker 6 (02:28:29):
Is that because of his size and they feel like
you can't use them more or are they missing the boat.
I don't know what the answer to that question is.
Speaker 11 (02:28:39):
I'm adamant they got to start getting the ball to
Friarmouth regularly. That guy can make place for you.
Speaker 6 (02:28:47):
He's averaging four point two yards to carry this year.
That sounds high.
Speaker 5 (02:28:57):
Look, Chat Chibt doesn't, Mike, It's simply never wrong. So
I don't know how you could make that assertation.
Speaker 9 (02:29:04):
There's no slop.
Speaker 6 (02:29:09):
Still not sure that he's a number one back.
Speaker 7 (02:29:11):
When we come back from last night's post game show
that Mike pursued us, it's alongside Charlie Badchefor we'll give
you the call of the night that Rob King is
here for us to enjoy his reaction to as well.
Apparently there were some people who were still not happy
last night, and that's gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (02:29:28):
Rob.
Speaker 7 (02:29:29):
We've noted the post game show is for people to say, yeah,
we won this one. Bye, it's a big But when
we come back, Rob King and our buddy Joe Bartneck

Speaker 7 (02:29:58):

with Rob King voicing the Steelers on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 6 (02:30:05):
Time for the call of the postgame show.
Speaker 7 (02:30:07):
We always like to have Mike highlight one of the
calls from the postgame show to hear what Steeler Nation
was thinking postgame, because I really think it gives you
some good insight into what a vast portion of Steeler
fans have on their mind after a game like last
night's Monday Night football victory.
Speaker 6 (02:30:25):
The twenty third straight on Monday Night at home.
Speaker 11 (02:30:29):
For almost incomprehensible streak.
Speaker 6 (02:30:33):
It's Chuck Bull lost the last one. That's larmerous did
did he lose his last one? Is it all coward?
And to one or there some June color came in
in ninety two maybe yeah?
Speaker 7 (02:30:49):
All right, So this is from the post game, which
is once again helmed by our own Mike Pursuda and
Charlie Batch here on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 6 (02:30:58):
And uh, I'm guessing this was what one am something
like that about twenty to one? Okay, how come it's
not playing there?
Speaker 18 (02:31:10):
Oh? I know what?
Speaker 2 (02:31:11):
Hold on a second, there you go.
Speaker 6 (02:31:12):
A manual in Carnegie. Hey, guys, hey for got somebody.
Speaker 2 (02:31:18):
Thanks thanks for hag.
Speaker 18 (02:31:20):
There there's still there's there's still a post.
Speaker 27 (02:31:23):
And I was at the ball game, so yeah, h
shut up, you were here.
Speaker 18 (02:31:28):
Oh yeah, it was worth it.
Speaker 2 (02:31:30):
It was.
Speaker 27 (02:31:30):
It was cold, but I ain't gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (02:31:33):
I was bundling up, and.
Speaker 27 (02:31:35):
You know, on my way through the game, on my
way to the stadium, I decided to lower the windows
down so I could kind of like get accustomed to
the weather. Because I knew it was going to be cold.
I lowered my windows down, turn off the heat in
a cold car. I was crazy, but it was worth
It was a great win, and I just want to
do this. I haven't done this in a while, but.
Speaker 22 (02:31:56):
Stand innovation.
Speaker 18 (02:31:57):
To the sellers, I gotta ask.
Speaker 6 (02:32:01):
You, have you ever driven somewhere with your with your
car windows down and tried to make yourself cold, to
be prepared to be cold? Beyond anything I've ever heard before.
Speaker 27 (02:32:16):
Honestly, at eighteen degrees outside, you know, hey, you gotta
go on.
Speaker 6 (02:32:24):
Give give.
Speaker 2 (02:32:25):
Give.
Speaker 24 (02:32:25):
The people who were not at the stadium here today
thinking about coming into a game, how should you prepare,
I'm sorry, dress for the weather?
Speaker 6 (02:32:33):
Like that. I mean a couple of heat pads. You
have a heatd best.
Speaker 2 (02:32:37):
What did you have on?
Speaker 27 (02:32:39):
Yeah, wore three layers, uh, ski masks, gloves and everything,
a couple alcoholic retherces and yeah, just and being lost
into the game was the sighting, you know, I mean,
this was not the Bills game where you know, we
were like really doubt of ourselves. This is where, you know,
it just felt very festivus.
Speaker 18 (02:32:58):
Uh. This this was a great atmosphere.
Speaker 2 (02:33:00):
You feel like you.
Speaker 6 (02:33:00):
Earned the victory a little bit, don't you because you
showed up in the cold. Don't you walk out of
there thinking you did your part?
Speaker 2 (02:33:09):
Yeah, thank you very much, y'all.
Speaker 6 (02:33:12):
Forciate the cold man. I'm trip home tonight with the win.
It's tough.
Speaker 24 (02:33:18):
You have a lot of people wondering or maybe didn't
show up the day because it was cold. But the
people who were here, they were into the game and
it was just a beautiful thing to watch.
Speaker 6 (02:33:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:33:27):
I would agree with Charlie on that one and king
her it was cold and sitting at home you might
have lost sight of that throughout the game, just how
cold it was. I don't think to a lost sight
of that, but a good showing from the Steelers fans
last night. And hey, Renegade got off without being booed.
Speaker 9 (02:33:43):
How bout it?
Speaker 2 (02:33:44):
How about that?
Speaker 27 (02:33:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (02:33:45):
It was good, I mean good stuff. And Steelers fans
showed up as we expected to do. I know, my
son was at the game, bundled up and blankets and everything,
and he and his buddies were all cheering and yelling and.
Speaker 2 (02:34:00):
Out there with his girlfriend Natalie. They were very cold.
Speaker 17 (02:34:03):
She was a trooper.
Speaker 2 (02:34:03):
They were all troopers, and they got into it.
Speaker 18 (02:34:05):
Man.
Speaker 14 (02:34:06):
The towns were waving and they got up at the
right time. I mean, it felt like a communal effort
out there.
Speaker 6 (02:34:12):
In some ways. I was very curious how that crowd
was going to respond.
Speaker 18 (02:34:16):
Well.
Speaker 7 (02:34:16):
I think that that first half was not the most
exciting half of football, No, and they were in danger
of losing the home field advantage, or at least what
it could have been had they not come out the
way they did in the second half.
Speaker 11 (02:34:32):
But I think well the touchdown at the end of
the second quarter helped too. Yeah, at least everybody went
to halftime. They were winning great point. Yeah, I think
that that could have turned ugly again.
Speaker 7 (02:34:41):
Oh if it would have been if the first half
or the second half mirror the first half. I don't
know how happy people would have been to hear renegade
or anything at that point, but I think offensively, just
seeing them get into the rhythm that they were able
to and whether or not that was the eighty five
Bears defense that they were going against last night, Kinger,
you know, the confidence that that fan was talking about,
(02:35:05):
I think the team is definitely feeling it. Look, the
Dolphins had some confidence coming off a four game winning
streak and then got stomped on in the freezing cold
in Pittsburgh last night, and I think after these two games,
it's a little different for the Steelers, the confidence that
they're gleaning from beating the Ravens and then the Dolphins
to kind of stop their you know, comeback bid to relevance.
(02:35:30):
And some of it has to do with the personnel,
and I do think that mvs and Pheland have a
little bit of an effect on the offensive side of
the ball. And seeing that you lose two of your
best defensive players and you can still basically shut down
an AFC offense, it has got to give them a
little vote of confidence going into this stretch of three
games that will determine the postseason.
Speaker 14 (02:35:52):
Yeah, their defense wud be giving up the Dolphins thirteen
point three points per game during your winning streak, So
they were doing a lot of things right. So I
don't I don't want to pooh pooh the victory because
it's a Dolphins team that was playing well. No, no, no,
I and you know they were desperate. They had to
win that game to stay alive in the playoffs. They
had to win it, and the Steelers took it to him.
(02:36:14):
And I agree with you, Randy. I think this is
this two game stretch might be the best two game
stretch they played this season. I think that you know,
there were there were things that needed to be short up,
coming out after halftime and playing better football that appears
over the last couple of weeks to have been short up.
Speaker 2 (02:36:34):
You know, Aaron Rodgers is playing top level football.
Speaker 14 (02:36:37):
They showed last night that they're capable of doing a
good job against the run.
Speaker 2 (02:36:42):
Now let's get Derek Harmon and TJ.
Speaker 14 (02:36:43):
Watt back out there as soon as possible and do
an even better job against the run. They'll be challenged
this week against the Lions. You know, this would be
an interesting test against Detroit. But it feels like, you know,
maybe the Steelers a positioned themselves and are hopefully playing
their best football at a time of the season in
which he want to be playing your best football. You
would rather be the Steelers right now than say, Tampa Bay,
(02:37:06):
a team that was number one in all the power
rankings and and early on in the season, and look
at we got a Super Bowl contender here.
Speaker 2 (02:37:13):
Now there's seven and seven in fighting just to make
the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (02:37:16):

(02:38:49):
Now we needed one this weekend, but we just we
just shot it last yesterday. And two for talking is
going on? And what's your how do you stop this?
How do they stop blowing? Third period leads that that
seem insurmount he playing, don't sit back and then six
on five attack the puck?
Speaker 6 (02:39:08):
How can we be good.
Speaker 5 (02:39:09):
How can we have a top five penalty kill at
six out of five? We all stand around. That's some
pucks go off, shins, people getting the way attack the puck,
all right, Joe Bartneck there, Uh, that's it for us
to all right?
Speaker 6 (02:39:21):
Edmitton tonight?
Speaker 5 (02:39:21):
Correct, they are playing tonight, so I don't think they're
gonna have a three goal lead against Jesus and Leo,
and so we won't have to worry about it.
Speaker 6 (02:39:30):
Johnny probably wins you shoot out tonight.
Speaker 27 (02:39:31):
Is that?
Speaker 5 (02:39:33):
Oh well, this is my game. I will take the
loser point of all the games. They'll be happy with
a loser point for this one.

Here's Tom Opperman.
Speaker 28 (02:40:21):
It was a dominant win for the Steelers on Monday
Night football against the Dolphins, triumphing twenty eight to fifteen
over Miami, and the game wasn't even as close as
that score. Thatt's on Miami opened the scoring twenty four
minutes into the game, but then Pittsburgh ripped off twenty
eight straight points en route to victory. Aaron Rodgers led
the way for Pittsburgh with another strong performance, his second
in a row. He completed twenty three of his twenty
(02:40:43):
seven passes for two touchdowns and two hundred and twenty
four yards through the air. Rodgers had a healthy compliment
of running the football as well on offense, rushing thirty
two times for one hundred and thirty five yards as
a team and finding the end zone via the ground twice. Defensively,
the Steelers completely shut down and put in Miami rushing
attack that was averaging one hundred and ninety two yards
(02:41:04):
over their previous four games. Miami only managed to rush
for sixty three yards on sixteen carries against the Steelers defense,
and the Dolphin offense manage only two third down conversions
the entire game. The win improves the Steelers to eight
and six on the season and maintains their one game
lead over Baltimore in the AFC North. The Steelers now
faced a short week, as they had to Detroit this
(02:41:25):
coming Sunday, shooting for three straight wins. I'm Tom Oframan
with the Steelers Report.
Speaker 6 (02:41:32):
Great googly Mogle This
