Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some gift ideas for the Steeler fan in your life.
Here is Tad Whistle Tad take it away.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Well, you can never go wrong with buying Steeler stuff
for a loved one. But there's so many choices. This
list is just meant to make you know your selections
a little less overwhelming. All right, When we think about
the greatest invention of the twenty first century, what comes
to mind, AI and machine learning, human genome sequencing. Nope,

(00:30):
it's pretty obviously Facebook Marketplace. Yes, now we are in
the golden age of online commerce when it comes to
buying Steeler.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Chotchkes said, random crap.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Here's a list of potential gifts from real Facebook Marketplace
posts that I've seen over the last thirty hours. So
these are actual Steeler related for they're very real, Okay,
very real. A three D printed bust of James Harrison
the Only Catches looks nothing like James Harrison. It actually

(01:02):
looks like Sergeant Doakes, the detective who hates Dexter surprise,
or maybe the person in your life who loves the
black and gold and loves to drink but in a
classy way. There's an eighty five dollars decanter shaped like
a steeler helmet.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
About a custom upholstered recliner.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
I know, eleven dollars may sound a little steep for
a chair wrapped in a Steeler's tablecloth, but it does
come with a matching ottoman.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Oh well, I mean you can't beat that Tess Rising.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
For fifty bucks, you can own a piece of history
with a seat from three River Stadium. Oh well, that's
kind of cool, but not the whole seat. What just
the bottom pipe where the butts go. There's no back to,
no back.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Go back.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
They advertise also comes with a certificate of authenticity, which
I would love to see because it's the bat, it's
the bottom of the seat. There's a homemade Steeler's deadpool mask,
and I know that your your brain just immediately zapped
to that one person in your life who could use that.

(02:16):
How about a hand painted Steeler coffee table? I should say,
you know, the the artwork is a little wonky, but
you'll have plenty of time to figure out a fix
for this handsome buffet on your way back from Bethel
Park after you've picked it up. But look, Christmas shouldn't
just be about stuff. You know, we get so stuff oriented.

(02:38):
You can book a ninety minute tour of Acrosure Stadium
that includes a stroll through the Great Hall, a look
inside the Steelers locker room, in a photo op with
one of the deconsecrated Heinz ketchup bottles. The price tag
is only twenty five dollars, but if you want to
upgrade the experience for another fifty bucks, my buddy Gary
will accompany you and loudly talk over the tour guy

(03:03):
with fun anecdotes like that's the men's room, I've seen it,
dude pissing the scene. And one time I was in
line at Annie Hands and I met Darius Chisholms.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Great girl. Oh yeah, Dari, it's great. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Speaking of experiential gifts, you could also book a holiday
greeting with Cameo, the video messaging app that connects celebrities
and athletes with the masses. Who wouldn't want a Christmas
wish from Dick Lebo. Yeah, they've got a nice roster
of Steelers on there, Heinz, Ward, Terry Bradshaw, even Antonio
Brown And look, the message doesn't even have to be

(03:47):
holiday related, it can be whatever.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
As a matter of fact, two days ago.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I paid former Stealer wide receiver Sammy Coates ten bucks
to encourage my friend to get a colonoscope.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
You gotta get it down big.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Think it's gonna be great. For everything. It's gonna be okay,
So don't be worried, gonna be scared. Man. Yeah, I'm
done it. I'll do it twice a year. So hey,
go get it.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Done man, twice a year. I know what you're thinking.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Did Sammy coach just say he hits two colors a year?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Whatever the reason is, I'm glad he's doing it right.
You can never be too sure.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
But look, if Sammy Coates will do that for ten bucks,
imagine what Antonio Brown will do for two fifty. He
might violate a gag warrior. Look if I could just
get on my soapbox here. We get so caught up
in the consumerism, spending all the stress, it's easy to

(04:46):
lose sight of what's really important this holiday season. Love
Family and the Steelers Margaritaville collection available at the Steelers
Pro Shop, which I guess is some kind of bizarre
our partnership between the Steelers and Jimmy Buffett's estate.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
I'm not making this up.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
There's a whole line of pastel shirts that are just
the Steeler logo with the sunset and a couple palm trees,
making their target demographic uncles hipsters. I honestly don't know. Look, yeah,
they're a hideous abomination. Yes, their existence only proves that

(05:27):
God is dead and everything is for sale. But that
being said, which it was, I kind of want one
happy shopping and Mary's Stressmas to all.

Speaker 6 (05:44):
The three words that es to SRIB you all as
follows and clothes steak stuck.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
It's the dB Morning Show. Merry Christmas, everybody. Randy Bauman
here along with Abby Prisoner other pe a run around
getting egg nugg this morning.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
It's just you and I.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
But you know, I was glad that you were able
to arrange this for the listeners because going into the
Christmas break, we've had the privilege of having basically a
private common Heart concert all morning long.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
Amazing.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Their big show is on December twenty seventh at mister Small's.
But they're not the only band with the big show
Tomorrow night, December twentieth, in Frostburg, Maryland at lash bas West.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
All right, that's only two hours from Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
They've already played their Pittsburgh shows for this season, but
I am absolutely fascinated with this band, Abby, It's the
Christmas band. I can't believe they're not playing thirty shows
in Pittsburgh over the holidays. The Crampest band Slayer s
l E I G h E R Slayer.

Speaker 8 (06:50):
This is a band you have to see in person,
and actually having them in the Dvast Studios gave me
an immense amount of cool points, but also gave me
something to terrify my child's with for good behavior, because
if you know the legend of Crampis, of course this
is this is the German folklora.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
You know, you tell your kids.

Speaker 8 (07:09):
Instead of saying that you are good and Santa will
give you presents, they just skip over that and instead
it's if you're bad, Crampus will just take you away,
put you in his sack and beat you with sticks,
I think, for all eternity. So that's that's how they
control their children. So all of the guys are dressed
as Crampis and they take some of your favorite tunes

(07:33):
and make them all holiday related. So if you want
to check out the visuals, which I highly recommend you, Yes,
We've got them for you on our Instagram and.

Speaker 9 (07:43):
TikTok at DVE Rocks.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
But you'll catch the Christmas vibe here.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
So this was recorded live to tape Tuesday night in
the Point Park University Stage Theater here in the iHeart
Studios and it's the brainchild of Mark Menold, who's been
on the music scene here in Pittsburgh for a very
long time.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yuh.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
The Slayer Crampus band is consists of their Slayer names
are Fetzen, Philip, Ramsey, and Zwiebel.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
I think you got them all right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
So if you're gonna be anywhere near Frostburg, Maryland, tomorrow night,
go see this band and you can search them at
Slayer Crampis band Crampus with a K Slayercrampus band dot com.
Here they are for you now, Pittsburgh Zone. One of
a kind, the most unique metal Christmas band in the country.

Speaker 10 (08:39):
Slayer on DVE.

Speaker 11 (09:21):
Dem st whenever one up side gets a le nom
a way the love the same fame is Scramly fight
Ban says like someting not single clouds Single clouds.

Speaker 12 (09:50):
Day when you go up.

Speaker 11 (09:52):
By tays the same Rid Lisen.

Speaker 13 (10:04):
Lasting Side, what long away then as like, that's the

(10:26):
way I'm like you saybe I will tip down to.

Speaker 12 (10:29):
Mamma, you exalt.

Speaker 11 (11:05):
Me, not.

Speaker 12 (11:17):
Experience same.

Speaker 13 (11:23):
Besides of the night change flows James.

Speaker 6 (11:27):
Flows, Yeah, player, that is so hilarious.

Speaker 9 (11:51):
I loved it, and everybody that was in the studio
was like, jaw dropped.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Our engineer was like, what is happening right now? But
again it's it is a visual thing.

Speaker 8 (12:01):
In addition to like you getting kind of the momentum
and the energy of what you just heard, you do
have to see because the costumes are unreal. So our
Instagram and TikTok we've got that for you at DV
Rocks and then again you can go to slayercrampisband dot
com and Crampus is spelled with a K. And I
think that Mark Mendol, who you gave a shout out

(12:22):
to at the beginning there, he has a lot of
plans for what will become Crampus Fest twenty twenty six
as well, so I would follow them just for that.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Good in the Point Park University stage brought to you
by locally owner and operated MOS Southwest Grail. Great job
by Slayer, all right, we got the h the preamble
to kick off from Mike in the special holiday edition
of course, Abby that means it's the night before Steelers

(12:53):
Christmas by our own Mike Pursuda still to come. Don't
forget this week's wdb E Budlight Game Day Bar of
the Week Roy's Pub in u Uniontown this NFL season.
Stop in Royce Pub and enjoy two dollars butt light
drafts during Steelers games.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
But light, easy to drink, easy to.

Speaker 4 (13:08):

Speaker 14 (13:43):
Let's get your tickets at mister Smalls dot.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Com or DV dot com. Hey, it's Randy Frock and
the DVE Morning Show.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
It's your radio home of the Pittsburgh Steelers one on
two point five d VE e Randy Bauman and the
DVE Morning Show along with Abbey Chrisner, Mike Persuda, our
buddy Ted Whistle with us. And this time of year,
it's always a good idea for the Steeler fan on
your Christmas list to look towards the books that have
been published and are being published, And currently one is

(14:12):
coming out that I cannot wait to delve into because
it honors our dear friend and co worker for many years,
the great, all time great Pittsburgh Steeler lineman Craig Woofley,
and someone who helped get that book accomplished and did
the lion's share of the writing. I'm guessing Jim Wexele
joining us right now and Wax, good morning, how are you, Buddy?

Speaker 5 (14:33):
Good morning, Randy and Gang. You know I did not
do the blind zer of the writing. That's what was
assumed by the publishing house that I would ghost write
for the athlete. This athlete did not need a ghostwriter.
Craig Wolfley can write. I just it was a rock
and cheer ride For me, I just sat back and

(14:55):
we had to put it together. At the end, we
had to rush. Craig, unfortunate, only passed away the day
the manuscript was due, and he had he had done
his work and he had gotten it all in. It's
a beautiful, beautiful.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Mind, Mars. It really got submitted the day he passed away.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
No, it was due. He had submitted all the work before,
and he got sick. He died within twenty twenty days
after the diagnosis. Yeah, so he had all the work
in twenty days, at least twenty days before. But that
was the day he passed was the day that our
deadline was March tenth. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
So what I'm hoping from this book, Jim, and maybe
you can let me know if this is an accurate expectation,
is when I read Doctor John's autobiography, it was hilarious
because it was all in doctor John speak, which is
like a patois that does not exist. It's a there
nobody talks like if they are words that only he uses,

(15:59):
you know. But but Craig Wilfley was the Doctor John
of NFL speak and football speak.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
You know, he made up his own words. And had
his own language. So I'm hoping that there's gonna.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Be that element to this book or did he feel
the need to that he wanted to be refined here
and not come off as some sort of philistine.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Now wolf walked on gilded splinters here, look at you,
doctor John reference. I am definitely going to get the
doctor John.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Under a whodoo moon. Yeah, it's amazing, Okay, cool cool.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
Craig's widow Faith, we just had her on a podcast
and she was so grateful that we I didn't feel
like I had to allow it, but she said, we
allowed his voice to shine through and it's not difficult.
It really didn't need much editing because again Craig could write.
But yeah, she was very pleased that his voice shines through.

(16:58):
And it's uh, it's it's a precious gift that he
left for all of us. It's it's his voice, definitely.

Speaker 15 (17:06):
Jim, I'm like Grandy, I haven't gotten into the book yet.
We're still in season here, but I've read all your
other works that are all phenomenal, as we have mentioned
over the years, I was curious about this one. This
one's a little different because of how well you knew Wolf.

Speaker 10 (17:24):
Correct.

Speaker 15 (17:24):
It's not the same as going to interview Troy Paul
Malow's uncle.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
I would imagine, No Craig wrote these.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
I mean I wasn't an interview. Yeah, but I mean
I tried to You.

Speaker 15 (17:38):
Had to work on the project. You're editing and organizing,
and you're you're.

Speaker 10 (17:44):
A part of it.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
I'm starting to think you didn't have anything to do
with this, Jim.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
I tried to tell the publish We had a conference
call with Wolf and the publishing house and I said, hey, hey, guys,
I feel like I'm stealing money here. Wolf No, no,
Lex No, no Lex you we just we agreed to
this and this. I mean I edited it. I guided
Wolfe a little bit, but as far as interviewing him, no,

(18:11):
Wolf Wolf wrote for my site for like twenty years,
and he he believes that I helped him become a
better writer. So maybe in that way I guided it.
But and I pulled in uh you know, uh Faith
and Ron wolf Lee and uh collected the pictures and yeah,

(18:34):
why are you fucking to me?

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Well, here's why we want to talk to you. Now
we've determined you had absolutely nothing to do with this.
But I assume that you know what's in it, so
let's let's let's focus on that. I don't think enough
Steeler fans of this generation have an appreciation for Wolf
the athlete. They know him as the gregarious football mascot
character that he became through all of those years broadcasting

(18:58):
alongside his best friend Tounch. But I would hope that
a good degree of it deals with what an elite
level offensive lineman he was through college at Syracuse and
then into the pros with the Steelers who had just
come off the dynasty years, and that was test Ledden
for a while, and then going up to play for

(19:18):
Minnesota there at the end.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Yeah, but you know Wolf's humility. I mean, you know,
if he's going to tell a story about playing left guard,
which Randy, I think you're as old, as close to
as old as I am. You watched Wolf. He was
an excellent, excellent player. I think he made one of
the first all fifty year, All seventy five year teams

(19:42):
that were put out before fanica.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Are you super athletic, super athletic?

Speaker 5 (19:48):
It really was great pulling guard, outstanding, outstanding player. But
when he tells a story about playing left guard, it's
eyeball jack Ham, and I'm going to make my mark.
And I see Gray and his beard, and this Hall
of Famer's going down, and I'm making my mark. And
here I am pulling into the sixth hole. Where's Ham?

(20:10):
He's supposed to be there? Where is he? Boom? Wolf
gets knocked on his can. Looks up, there's Jack Ham's smile.
So those are the stories Wolf he tells, you know,
just full of humility. He's not going to tell you
how he is. Yeah, there may be some instances in
the book. But if I were to write about him instead,

(20:32):
I would have written about how good of a guard
he was, how underrated he was, because his humility, his
self deprecation through all the media he got into really
left us thinking, well, maybe this guy wasn't such a
good player and that's why he got a good media. No,
he really was a good ballplayer.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Did he write a chapter about fighting Butterbean? Please tell
me he did. I would like a Butterbean chapter.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
There's there is a reference to that, but it's not
he doesn't go deep into it.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
I remember the morning he came in and he and
he's like, I think I'm gonna fight Butterbean. I'm like
you're going, know what, He's like, I'm gonna fight Butterbean.
I'm like, in the parking lot.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
What happened?

Speaker 1 (21:17):
I don't understand. Nope, getting back in the ring, and
I could not believe he was going to do it.
And then he almost beat Butterbean. I mean you no,
I know he was always training and everything, but this,
to me, he spoke to what an elite athlete he was,
because I think he was forty two or forty three
when he did that, and he got in the ring
and nearly beat the hell out of that big.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
You know, Lummocks. That is the Butterbean.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
There is a chapter on that, and it just I
have difficulty recalling that because that what is Is that
pro wrestling or is that?

Speaker 3 (21:55):
No dude is boxing? He boxed him? Okay, all right,
I got to get somebody else. I'm to talk about
this book.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
Wex.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
I don't know what's going on. For the love of God,
your name is on the cover.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
I'm sorry, man. I could tell you about him spotting
the World's Strongest Man with Jim Burt. You know, Jim
Burt was a nose tackle for the Lawrence Taylor Giants
and they were buddies growing up, and they were spotting
this dude squatting nine hundred pounds and the guy stumbled
and Wilson Bert rushed up to steady him, and the

(22:34):
guy steadied himself, and wolf said.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
We would have all died.

Speaker 5 (22:38):
I mean if he would have gone. There was no
reason for us to go and spot the dude. And
so he the chapter about that is really good. That
was more interesting than butter Bean. I don't even hardly
know who he is. Randy. Then you get into this
pop culture that I don't know about. Let's talk about
doctor John again. Man.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Yeah, well more people no Butterbean than doctor John, believe
it or not. Unfortunately.

Speaker 12 (23:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
Culture.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
Yeah, if these walls could talk stories from the Pittsburgh
Steelers H Craig Wolfley And this book is available right now.
Jim Wex who Wetchell who helped craft the book. We'll say,
and uh, it is available right now.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
Right, it is available right now. And Faith and I
his widow, Faith and I are having a book signing
at Pizzazz Italian Restaurant in McMurray Saturday from three to five.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Are you going to read the book before that?

Speaker 5 (23:35):
You're killing It's intimidating enough coming on the Coolest show.

Speaker 15 (23:44):
Yeah all right, I just say I have read the
other works of Jim Wexell, and I think wex probably
did more editing than he wants to admit.

Speaker 10 (23:54):
I concur Jim does this stuff.

Speaker 15 (23:57):
I don't care if you just watched them printed, Jim,
if you're associated with it, it's killer.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I agree, And that's why I wanted to have him
one today. He knows that I'm busting his balls.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
I appreciate that. Well, Brandy, you have me on first.
When you first heard about it, you had me on first.
It was really cool, I mean right away. So I
appreciate that, and maybe I knew more about it back then.
It's been so long, a couple of months, you.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Know, Yeah, I know.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
You know, it's a lot of stuff between that now
and then a lot of blogging since then. You know,
a lot of us writing about these Pittsburgh Steelers. But
this is something that everybody should get. Our friend Craig
woof Lee meant the world to not just us here
at iHeart, but all of Steeler Nation. If these walls
could talk, available everywhere that you order books right now,
Jim Wexwell, thanks so much and I hope you have

(24:42):
a great holiday brother.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
Thanks you too. Take care.

Morning Show along with Abby Krisner, Mike Pursuda, Tad Whistle
with us and uh whistle almost has a watle sound.
And I submit that fans of your work this holiday season,

(26:45):
instead of go whostling, should go a whistling.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
That would mean a lot to my ancestors if you
could do that. What derivation is whistle? What is the
national allegy German German whistle?

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Right, oh weissel It is the yeah this ways of
making you whastle.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
I met a German guy from Dusseldorf one time and
he's like, my name is Paul Wessel. I'm like, oh
my god, I have to talk to you.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
Give it to me. Tell me about our name. He's like, well,
to be honest, I have never met another one. I'm like,
hold up, you are my long lost brother.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
It was sad. It was a sad moment.

Speaker 7 (27:25):
It is at times like this when the darkness, in
the bleakness of our existence come into play, and it
reminds me that ultimately we come into this world alone,
when we die alone.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
You really are my dad's brother. Every German to me
is Werner Herzog. No matter what he's like, sir, this
isnt Arby's.

Speaker 7 (27:51):
Existentially speaking, the beef and Cheddar represents existence on the timeline.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
For me, it's major hawksteedder I thought, I thought I
knew it would be Hogan's heroes related. Okay, so we're
getting you ready for kickoff this coming Sunday, of course,
Steelers and the Lions, A four twenty five kickoff Here
on your radio home of the Steelers DVE, and here

(28:18):
from the Steelers Audio Network pregame and postgame show with
the pre amble two kickoff is our own Mike Persuda.

Speaker 15 (28:31):
Twas just days before Christmas, but throughout Steeler Nation fans
were calm, not excited or anticipating. They'd already gotten the
present they'd longed for, the gift that keeps giving. Qv
Aaron Rodgers. His beard wasn't white, but with whiskers of gray.
He was old, but not too old to still lead
the way. And I own the pregame with keen insight

(28:53):
and humor, thought the Steelers perhaps might again yet be
super against Balemer's Ravens, He's cold fish. Rogers play was
the insurs, the best Christmas wish, And what to my
wandering eyes did appear the team they had thought that
they could be all year, more rapid than Lions, much
better than Brown's. Rogers called to his teammates who kept

(29:15):
scoring touchdowns on Warren, on metcalf on, Pat fryar Mouth.

Speaker 10 (29:20):
I told you I wasn't too long in the tooth
to the playoffs. We'll head and we'll have an agenda.

Speaker 15 (29:27):
It's to make for the Steelers the postseason great again.
He wore black and goals, not a red suit like Santa.
His audibles rang out like a champion's mantra. With the
wink of his eye and a twist of his head.
He let everyone in on what he knew was destined,
and the question he asked.

Speaker 10 (29:45):
Was familiar to all. Are you ready for some football?

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (29:50):
In the playoffs, the Steelers and Rogers caught fire. Steeler
nations stopped bitching. The mood was sublime.

Speaker 12 (29:57):
It was just the beginning.

Speaker 15 (29:58):
When the drought finally ended to the top of the
stairway to seven, they ascended tal twirlers, delighted in another Lombardy.

Speaker 10 (30:06):
They even applauded the head coach, Mike Tomlin.

Speaker 15 (30:09):
After winning the title he'd set out to capture Rogers,
spoke to the masses before he went back to Cali.

Speaker 10 (30:16):
I told you there's no freakouts.

Speaker 15 (30:17):
We got this, he insisted, from my zeitgeist to yours
and to all Mary Christmas, Mike PRISUITA.
