Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the Mark Madden Show.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
If you'd like to go one on one with a
great one, do'll eight three three four one two WXDX.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
You can follow me on Twitter as well at Mark
Madden X.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Like I said, Penguins seven to two to one, one
point off the top of the Eastern Conference. Thirty eight
goals for the most in the conference. That's a little surprising.
And it was a great crowd last night at PPG.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Not big.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
There were some empty seats, believe me, but a great crowd,
very loud, very reactive, very responsive. I'm sure ticket prices
are down on the secondary market and that gets different
fans in the building or maybe fans who used to
go and we're passionate who can't afford it now. Maybe
they go now with the little help from stub Hup.
(00:49):
Sid's milestone got a big pop, seventeen hundred points. Sid
has made milestones boring, like too many of them. He
could get two thousand, two thousand points. Only one guy's
done that, ever, Gretzky, you know what Sin is probably
gonna get. I don't have the exact number in front
(01:11):
of me. He might get most points with one franchise.
He can't catch Gretzky and his twenty eight hundred and
whatever career points. But he can catch how many points
Gretzky had with the Oilers if he stays with the Penguins.
And I think more and more he's going to stay,
not just because they're off to a good start.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
But I don't know. He just is so adverse to change.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I think if he had to say right now, he
still wants Sellary to be coaching in not muse, even
though mus is doing a great job and it looks
like and feels like and plays like a whole different team.
Sid with a goal and two helpers last night, Russ
with two goals and a helper, Malk with one on one,
and like I said, he's tied for the NHL leading
(01:59):
points and leads the NHL outright when it comes to helpers.
Penguins at Philadelphia tonight six pm. Come watch the game
with me at Archie's on the South Side. Carlson had
three apples and made some really bad defensive plays, one
of which wound up directly in the Penguins net. He
(02:20):
giveth and he taketh. Jari battled the puck, but he
battled period. I just don't trust the goaltending and won't
trust the goaltending. You know when I'll trust the goaltending
when they got the bond villain in net Teddy Kgb
Sergei Morishoff. That's when I'll trust the friggin' goaltending. Hallander
(02:42):
played his first game on Sid's line. One assist, he
kept up, he did okay. The big debate and I
hear internally too. Brunick had a rough game on defense
minus two and I'm not sure it's a Locke anymore,
that he's gonna stay with the team and not be
returned to junior is I think Kendall is close to
(03:03):
a Locke. I think brunic is probably fifty to fifty.
I think he can play his way to stay or
play his way back to Jerkwater, Alberta, or wherever the
freaking oh Kamloops. Yeah, that's I think that is Jerkwater, Alberta.
So yeah, I think it's his to take or discard.
(03:24):
I'd keep him. I think the energy in the dressing
room and with the team on the ice, on the bench,
it's just so much better with the kids, and the
kids are group.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
He's part of the group.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
You know Dupas shouldn't overlook that when he makes his decision,
and like I said, I would keep him. The World
Series game lasted forever eighteen innings, six hours and thirty
nine minutes. If you told me that I could go
back to my sexual prime, which I think was a
(03:57):
Wednesday in nineteen seventy nine, until I could go back
and be fully aroused indefinitely, which, come to think of
it didn't even happen on that Wednesday in nineteen seventy nine.
But let's say some miracle drug, blue cheo, whatever could
allow me to perform with any woman I wanted as
(04:20):
long as I wanted.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I'm not sure what.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Woman i'd pick, especially now that I haven't even considered
the thought for how many years, being sixty four, but
I do know I wouldn't want to do it for
six hours and thirty nine minutes. I don't want to
do anything for six hours and thirty nine minutes. And
like I was talking about with Tommy Radio before, I
know people don't like that ghost runner. I think it's
(04:46):
a big plus for the regular season. In the World
Series the playoffs, I get not used it. I would
use it. After twelve innings. I would want to just
get the game over with for the sake of the teams.
The managers as well, save the pitching staffs a little
bit because they're all exhausted.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Now.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
The Dodgers use ten pitchers, the Blue Jays used nine pitchers.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
What's left for tonight?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
But you're not gonna go to know Tawny pitch forever
if you're Dave Roberts, the Los Angeles manager. So it's
kind of got, you know, both managers in a pickle
with exhausted pitching staffs. And maybe that's part of the
romance of the game, or maybe there's just no thing
in the world, no matter how entertaining or dramatic it
may be, that should go on for six hours in
thirty nine minutes. People talk about it being an all
(05:33):
time classic, but I wonder how many people were watching
at the end. I, like I said, I fell asleep
white turned the TV off because I was exhausted right
after Kershaw pitched that third of an inning.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
And don't forget you can.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Say it's dramatic, like the game was on a knight's
edge all through extras.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Nobody scored a run for ten innings. Ten innings.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yikes, I don't rather watch MLS is part of the
sports equedox.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
No, that's not true. I went to the Penguin game.
That was fun. It's what I do.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
It's amazing that Otani was on base nine times, nine times,
ten straight times dating back to the prior game. Two
home runs last night, and he pitches tonight. I have
been a little bit resistant to the Otawni hype. I
gotta admit, like after last night, I am buying in
(06:34):
more and more. I am seriously impressed by the guy
more and more. I'm gonna keep talking about how TJ.
Watt is killing the Steelers and stealing money. And you
hear the usual excuses all the time now with him
just being seven shades of mediocre.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
This season, not even in most games.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
But you hear he's being double team triple team chipped,
there's loose coverage in the quarterback gets rid of the
ball too quick.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Oh that's true, It's all true.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
But all that stuff has happened to Watt his entire career,
and he used to be good enough to deal with
it and beat it and excel, and now he can't
why because he's killing the Steelers and he's stealing money.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Get your calls in now.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
It's we don't take calls hardly at all, and that's
because I don't like you people and have very little
respect for your opinions. But this next segment, I could
take a call or two if you want. Dow eight
three three four one two WXDX And we got Pierre
McGuire at the bottom of the hour one nine X. Well, no,
I just said, I don't know what I said. I
don't know what you said.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah the X.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
If you heard the Tom With press conference today, you
know it was just more the usual.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
He's totally full of crap.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Talk about how the offense settled for field goals and
didn't score touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, who makes that decision? Coach? Who decides whether or
not to lay up?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
There were a couple of fourth downs you could have
and should have gone for it on And he talked
about the defense failed because green Bay converted a couple
of key third downs. You know, coach, green Bay killed
your crappy defense on every down, not just a couple
(08:34):
third downs. The numbers don't lie, and they spelled disaster
for your at akershure, and I think that's gonna be
the case again this Sunday with Indie visits.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Now, how can you fix it up? Like?
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Like I said earlier, I would bench slay period it
never get on the field. I might not even give
him a helmets. It looks like he's running in quicksand
slow slow, I mean, my god, he's making ten million
bucks too. I would go with Ramsey at safety with
(09:09):
Elliott out. In fact, I might keep him there when
Elliott comes back. Elliott's gonna be out at least this
week and probably longer. But Ramsey's a veteran, would have
just that steading influence. It'll make the trade of Minka,
who's legit safety, for Ramsey to replace him with that position.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
It makes the trade absurd.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
But it ain't so good of a trade right now,
even given how the Steelers are struggling in their defensive backfield.
But I'd have Ramsey at safety with one of the
job guys, I guess Thornhill or Clark, and then my
corners including slot would be Eccles, Porter and Pierre. Pierre
had a sleigh and I don't lose a second sleep
(09:49):
opining that. Uh. Here's Mike FLOURIEO of NBC ripping the
Steelers fan base that's you.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I don't know what's up with this fan.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Base, Like this is a far different fan base than
what I'm used to. I don't know if they've just
been kind of worn down by years of crap from
the Pirates right, and.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
The Penguins have receded to being nothing.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Are they just content that the Steelers have an above
five hundred record. I just sense I sense complacency from
the fan base, So I want to do first.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Off, that's unfair criticism of the Penguins, because, as I
said earlier, I guarantee, absolutely guarantee the Penguins will be
legit contenders for a championship again before the Steelers are.
I one hundred percent guarantee that. But the Steeler fan
base does what's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah,
(10:41):
it sucks, As evidence by Packers fans taking over Akrasher
on Sunday night. It's not just that Steelers fans betrayed
the team and the town and sacrificed home field advantage
by selling their seats on the secondary market. It's all
so that the cloud at Acrashure is old and bitter
(11:05):
and spoiled and sucks and goes quiet at bad moments,
turns on the team at worst moments and should give
their tickets to younger people and then go take a nap.
Let's go to Steve Steve Roderbark Madden Show.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Hey, good day, sir, I said, good day, Hey Mark.
First of all, I agree one hundred percent with you
and what you stated about the Penguins just now. And
second of all, until they get rid of Tomlin. You know,
nothing's gonna change in Pittsburgh. But I just wanted your
opinion on the about that Scaling signing.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Well, they haven't signed him yet.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
If they did it, it's like in the last like
ninety seconds he worked out. Yesterday, we heard they were
going to sign him. Now I hear they might wait
till next week to sign him. Have you heard different?
Speaker 5 (11:56):
I just thought I saw some stuff on social media
said that, like even on uh do Want? I googled
his name. He said he was a member of the
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Yeah, but said they're not new Lex said they're not
expected to sign a receiver this week. He who cares?
The guy sucks. He's been cut so many times and
to wonder he ain't bled to death. The Steelers will
be his fourth team inside of a year. So f him,
let's go to Corey. Corey, you're on with Mark?
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Hey, good day Double, I said, good day.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Hey, Mark. You know like I don't understand all the
criticism on Tomlin because I mean, if you give him
old washed up players that just can't play anymore, what's
he supposed to do with them?
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Okay, who do you think wanted to get those old
washed up players?
Speaker 3 (12:38):
I think that the Steelers fan base had a strong
Who do.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
You think Okay, the Steelers fan base. Yeah, they're the
general managers of the team. They picked the roster. Tomlin
has finals saying everything Tomlin sucks. You're a more on
anything else.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
I just disagree. You're more on.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Goodbye, never call here again. You're that stupid. Why don't
you go take a nap. Tomlin's just full of crap,
full of crap. But I love the betparks on like
casino in sports book, gap, I use it, I recommend it.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
You love to play, you play to win.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
You bet bete Parks, Peer mcbarre next one O five nine.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
It's the Woodie Show tomorrow morning from six till ten.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Whoa you got a day Wednesday?
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Maybe got a gateway clipper? That's d ex at one.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Joining us not live from Belfast, Ireland. It's the best
hockey talk anywhere with the great Peer Maguire Pierre. Why
on earth are you in Belfast, Ireland.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
I'm speaking at an event for the Double Chef and
it's about growing the hockey business on the women's side,
and also on the men's site, especially at the professional
level for the men. So I'm actually here with George
mctee from the Vegas School of the Knights, and we're
presenting tomorrow, So excited about that tomorrow, and then again
on Thursday, and heading home on Friday. I got here
(14:48):
early this morning, but really excited to be here. Love
help and grow the game. And as I told Tommy,
are awesome producer. I couldn't wait to get on old
of you.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Well, I can't wait to talk about the Penguins because
they never thought never stopping. They could be a bit sloppy,
and they were last night, but they play sixty minutes
every game, don't they.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
It's a totally different mindset. I don't know if you
agree with me, Mark or not. And this I do
knock on Mike Sullivan or anybody else that was there
for all this time before because they had so much success.
I think sometimes the message just gets old and they
needed a different messenger. Look at the way of Genny
Malcolm is playing, look at the enthusiasm and Brian Russ.
Look at the consistency of Sidney Crosby. Eric Carlson was
(15:29):
supposed to be a washout. Mark, He's not a washout anymore.
You know, you can look at all these different players
that are playing there, Anthony Manta, I can tell you
right now, most of the pro personnel people I spoke
to you this summer, they're like, oh my gosh, what's
Pittsburgh doing? He' says, perfect with Brazo and Malcolm, it's
a tremendous line. So you can go down the line
with all these different things. I think the coaching staff,
(15:51):
led by Dan Hughes, deserves a lot of credit. I
think Kyle Dubis and his management team deserves some credit
for their vision. And more than anything else, is a
team that's having fun right now and that's fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Well.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
The old guys are leading statistically, certainly siding Gino.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Can they keep it up?
Speaker 2 (16:08):
And are they being more dominant Pierre or just opportunistic
based on their guile?
Speaker 3 (16:14):
I think I think if Genny Malkin's getting back to
being dominant, I think you would agree. His feet are
moving a lot better, his pace to his game is better,
He's forcing more turnover.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
He's much faster through the neutral zone.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Yeah, he's on his toes, not on his heels. He's
making things happen. He's driving a line. You know, manthis fast,
but he's not super fast. Breso is not fast en
even close to fast. So Geno's driving that line and
it makes a different since consistency level is crazy. It's
crazy at his age and all the hockey he's played.
(16:48):
But again, I think the guys are having fun going
to the rink. I think they love the new message.
Will it last forever, I don't know, But here the
Reichel injury, we're gonna see. That's gonna be an interesting
one to watch how they respond to what happened to Ricardraquel.
But you know, I love the way this team is competing.
And you know what, Mark, Usually you can't tay preseason
(17:09):
equates to regular season, but with this team so far,
their preseason is carrying over to the regular season.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
What's your take on Philip Hallander playing on Sid's line
in Raquel's absence.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Yeah, he's a very skilled player. He's a guy that's
obviously got some good size and some reach. It's a
great opportunity obviously for him. I don't know how long
that lasts, but I mean it's an awesome opportunity. And
it's kind of what they have to do right now.
That's kind of where they are as a group, and
good for him. Take advantage of your opportunity.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
What will Kyle do?
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Butus decide with the two junior kids, Brunick can kindle
because Brunick has struggled mightily lately.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Usually that's what happens after the emotional thrust of going
through camp and being told you're going to stay for
a while. Once that kind of goes away, then you
start to find out where you are. And I think
they're finding that out with both players, even though Ben
Kimdall's been all world, especially offensively, and he's way better
defensively than what I think even the Penguins body would be.
(18:13):
I would say that at some point they're both gonna
play for Team cannat the World Junior And I know
people in Pittsburgh don't want to hear that, but the
pression has been set before other teams have done it,
and so I could see both those guys in December
going to play World Junior for Canada and then they
either come back to Pittsburgh, or they go back to
their junior team, or one goes back to his junior
team and the other one stays in Pittsburgh. Who knows.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Yeah, but they got to make that decision sooner. Pier
with the nine game limit, like, I don't know what
I'd do. I really don't because I would probably keep
Kindle and send Brunick back. Then again, I keep wavering.
My point is I don't want to underestimate or dissipate
the energy that kids in the room has brought.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
I don't want that to go down. But you still
got to do it's best for the kids.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Here's the one thing. I had Chris Pronger as a
nineteen year old, and he was all world. And one
of the things I had is I had Brad mccriman,
who was like in the extension of our coaching staff,
and I had him room with Chris, and I had
him partner with Chris, and I really helped Chris a
lot of you talked to Pronger, he tell you the
same thing. I'm not saying Pittsburgh doesn't have anybody like that,
(19:20):
but Brad mccrin was. It's a different guy, as you know,
he just he was a leader extension of the staff.
He's just a different guy. He's very, very mature guy.
It's hard for the guys to do this. I would
use the model Mark and I've talked about this with
our good friend Paul Steigerwald. I'd use the model of
Leo Carlson and Anaheim when it comes to Ben Kimball
(19:41):
and what they did with load management with him was awesome.
They negotiated it between the agent Matt Cater, the general
manager Pat Verbek, and at the time the coach Greg Crohnan.
So they came up with a plan between the three
of them and it really worked well for Leo Carlson.
And you can see that carrying over to where Carlson
and his career right now his third year in the league.
(20:02):
I think they can do the same thing with Ben
Kimmell and Pittsburgh. I really, especially when you have a
guy like Sidney Crosby around.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
We're talking to Pierre Maguire here on one oh five nine.
The X brought to us by always say flagging and
traffic control.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
You mentioned Anthony Mantham before.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
He's got five goals in ten games, first round picking
twenty thirteen, Big body.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Is he getting a second win? Can he keep this up?
What's your take? I mean ordinarily I'd say probably not.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
But if the two big guys with Malkin Manthon's looked
like the more comfortable fit.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
On that wing, one hundred percent accurate. The only way
it falls apart for him is if Tino goes down,
then I think it becomes a problem. But right now
he's responding talking about Anthony, He's responding to the opportunity.
He's responding really well. But you know, everybody knew going
in for Pittsburgh this is going to be a tough
(20:53):
year in terms of, you know, consistency, but so far
out of the gate. Now it's not a lot of
sample size, but so far, and again I can't stress
enough they must have run one heck of a training camp,
because this team came out of the gates at camp.
They were really good in the preseason and they've been
really good in the regular season.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Peo, do you trust the goaltending and that straight rotation
with Jari and shilloffs, They've not been terrible. I'm not
sure they've excelled either. Outside of the great game Jari
played to steal the win in Florida.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Well, I was gonna say Jarry's winning Florida was pretty good.
And I make Sea Lofts in New York on opening
night made some pretty good says to keep them minute.
But no, this is going to be a work in
progress for both goalies. You know, see Lofts. I think
has a chance to really get good. Last year, I
thought Toronto stole the free agency market by getting Anthony
(21:43):
Stolars out of Miami, Florida. And it looked like they
did really when you think about it, especially at the
price point. I compared Seeloss to the Stollars the other
day in Toronto Radio Mark he could be that steal,
just like Stolar was a year ago. And if that's
the case, he's gonna make out really well.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Penguins and Philly tonight, where are the Flyers at?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
They look kind of same, the same, even with talk
and taking over as coaching boy mid Scoff really needs
to get going, Dony, he does, and you know what.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Rick has done. It's I find this interesting. Trevor Zegris
who needed to get going and did on Saturday against
the Islanders and niche Goff. They're playing with one of
Rick's favorite players from Arizona, Christian Devorak. So I can
see the message sending right now to those two kids,
you're not playing with Caterier, you're not playing with Kate's.
You're playing with Devorak, who's a checker. You guys need
(22:36):
to play better without the puck. You need to get
going if you want to play elevated minutes. This is
what you have to do. So you can almost see
the handwriting on the wall for both those kids. Philadelphia
is working hard. I'll say that about their team. Owen
Tippett is probably the best pure player.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
I know a lot of people say, well, what about
Travis Connecting. I think tipp has actually been better. The
biggest question I have about them is their goal. I
think Erson was very good against the Islanders. Bladar's been
good when he's played, but I just don't know if
that holds up. And I really wonder about their defense, Mark,
I really do. But upfront, they're pretty good up front.
They're not terrible, they're pretty good upfront.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
You mentioned Zeegres.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I want to stick with him for one second because
I really.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Liked his game in Anaheim.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
But here's the weird thing about him, uh Pierre, I
wish he would think that scoring was more important, Like
I'm not sure his production's ever going to catch up
to his ability because I don't think he makes his
own shot enough, don't. I don't think he does the
little things that make a good player a good scorer.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
I've been watching him play since he's been eleven years
old for the mid Fairfield Rangers and Darien, Connecticut. He
played with Spencer Knight on the same team. I watched
him play at the US national team development program. I
watched him play at Potston University. I watched him playing
two World juniors. Everything you just said is spot on,
absolutely correct. And so here's the mark, and I'm telling you,
(24:02):
I think one of the greatestest services that ever happened
to a young player, and I mean this sincerely, was
when he was in Anaheim and he scored that, you know,
the highlight goal, the Michigan goal, whatever they want to
call that thing, and they started broadcasting all that The
game wasn't hockey anymore for him. It was a video game, yep.
And he's played like that. He's played like it's a
(24:25):
video game. I know the talent. He's got so much
talent it's scary, it's oozing out of him. He's got
to get back to being a hockey player and stop
being a gamer.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
Today's the frozen frenzy, Pierre.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Every NHL team plays, the times are staggered, so it's
gonna be all over TV.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
I love it, you know what.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
I wish there was a red zone type thing to
watch the highlights and goals. I'd watch that for like
fourteen hours.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
So we're on the same page there. The one thing
I wish. I wish they'd do it on a weekend.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Yeah, I think they're gonna be here. I think they're
gonna I.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Hope, I hope they do, and I hope they implement
what you just said because it would be fantastic for
the sport. It really would be fantastic for the sport.
One of the best things going to happen for the
game though. This year, you are going to see a
true best on Best Olympics, something we haven't had since
twenty fourteen. That's gonna be awesome for the fans. It's
going to be tremendous. I did seven of them, and
(25:21):
I'm telling you it never gets old. It really is
an amazing thing to see best on best at the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Pierre.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
You know you watch even more hockey than I do,
and I watch a ton who's in more trouble Tampa
Bay or the New York Rangers. Not only are they
started back in the standings. You look at them, boy,
they just they don't look the part, either of them.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
No, No, New York Rangers are in big trouble compared
to Tampa. Tampa's general manager is playing with house money.
And he's a tough guy, and he's not afraid to
make changes, and he will and he will and it
won't be the coach, It'll be players. He knows he
needs some help on defense. He knows that, and I
believe he'll go out and get it in New York.
(26:01):
I told you this a while ago, and I'm gonna
stay with it. Mark. And I'm not picking on the Rangers,
because there are a lot of guys that are that
I like. But they pointed at the wrong things. They
thought they had a fouled up locker room. That's why
they treated Jacob Truba. They kind of leaked a lot
of stuff about Chris Cryor looking at him out in
Anaheim right now. You know. They didn't like the way
KeAndre Miller was evolving. They traded him for Scott Moore.
Who's a really nice kid. But quite frankly, Scott Morrow
(26:25):
is not a top four NHL defenseman like Caandre Miller
has been. So they made a lot of internal mistakes,
and I know I shared this with you. They did
not do enough shopping this summer. They seen where their
team was last year and they didn't shop properly, and
that's why they are where they are. This is not
a reflection on Mike Sullivan at all. This is a
reflection on Chris Drury, the general manager.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Finally, Pierre sid reached seventeen hundred points last night. Can
he get to two thousand? What's your hunch and what
has to happen.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
As all as he stays healthy, and you know, they
have to make sure that it's not a complete overhaul
and rebuild, which I think they're kind of aggressive on
in a positive way. I look at what's going on
in Wilkesbury's Grant and Mark, and I'm just blown away
by how good that team is coming out of the gate.
And I know you've been a big proponent of Mershov yep,
and he's been lights out great. He's been lights out great.
(27:16):
So there's so much positive going on in the organization.
Long story, Shirt, I do think Sid can get to
two thousand. I truly believe that, just because of the
young players that are starting to filter through the organization.
Five years ago, I couldn't have said that to you.
Now I can.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Here's my only disclaimer. He won't hang on to get
to two thousand.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
I think Sid will quit the moment he feels he's
not a legitimate top six center, and it won't have
nothing to do with stats.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Well, that's fair. I think that's really fair. I do
my whole thing with Sid, though, is I just his
willingness to want to keep winning. And if they keep
winning and he's part of it, I have a hard
time believe he's just gonna get away from the game.
He's a lot like Yarmoer, you know, Mark, a lot
like Yarmer. They're addicted to the game. They don't know
(28:06):
what to do if they're not at the rink. It's
it's a heavy addiction. I have the same one. By
the way, it's hard to get rid of.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Pierre has always great stuff. Enjoy Belfast, good stuff going
on over there.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
We'll talk again next week. Enjoy the hockey.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
