Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Mark Madden Show. What do you think.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm very serious when I say they should have traded
for Saustgard and certainly for Jacoby Myers.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
A fourth and sixth dron pick. That is effing chicken feed.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
You got all these old bastards, these guys with canes
and walkers and wheelchairs, and you're trying to go all
in and try to win, but you can't give up
a fourth and sixth dround pick in that pursuit. God,
this is just exemplary how the Steelers talk out of
both sides of their mouth. I can't even say that
they talk out of both sides of their ass, whatever

(00:33):
that means. Again, then I'm gonna call it eight three
to three, four one two ninety nine thirty nine.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
I want your angst.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
We got room for calls in the next segment, certainly
next at the bottom of the hour, we got Pierre
Maguire talking about that Penguins loss, and that Penguin's loss
was movie heartbreaking, and right from the first leave school
early in the third you could see it coming, you
could feel it.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
And I don't know how you.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Let a guy that's topped sixty goals in the NHL
get behind you for a breakaway when you lead three nil.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Austin Matthews, I.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Don't know how you don't catch him because he's fat,
and after he scored, Excrement just rolled Don Hill. Every
team has games like that. Bad teams have more games
like that. The Penguins aren't a great team, so we
will see if this is the first in a series,
hopefully first and last. Liverpool off to a lively start,

(01:33):
Florian Verts making a start up front.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
The primary culprit in that loss last night was Tristan Jarry,
no question, he's gutless. If that's speaking too strongly, well,
I stand by and he's gutless. If you score one,
he'll give up two. If you score nine, he'll give
up ten. He'll make every say but the one he's
got to. He was two into that last night. He

(02:02):
gave up the one pinball goal where it just bounced
around till he got buy him and he flailed, looking
rattled and beaten. When the puck was already in last
night's game blowing. It was vintage Jari and marking on
Sid's line. The change that Muse made I think maybe
early in the second it doesn't work.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Like Bob Aerry said on.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
A Penguins broadcast a few years back when Sullivan tried
it, it just never works.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
It never works. They don't fit.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
They overdo it, like any remote hit of simplicity you
can prosper by and playing hockey. When those two play together,
they do not do any of it. I have no
idea why Muse did it, except maybe I do. Brunic
was a wreck. What's the call there? Offside the file?

(02:54):
Hold on here it is? Oh went out of bonds? Okay,
can't argue with that.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Kindle was the bright spot two goals, but like I.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Said earlier, Penguins got the power play late and the
third with the game tied, right before Toronto scored the winner. Kindall,
who had a power play goal and was the best
guy on the power play all night, didn't touch the
puck hardly at all on that last power play. And
I said before and I say again now, and I'm
right about this, and I don't care what Sidon, Geno
and Mues think.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
The best power play guy they got in.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Terms of reorganizing and distributing is Ben Kendall at eighteen
and put him on that left half wall. I don't
care when Russ, when Raquel comes back. Kendall has to
stand that power play. He has to run it. And honestly,
if Mwes won't do that, he's not the coach I

(03:49):
think he is. If MWS pays the veteran respect when
Kendall should be the guy, Mwes ain't the coach I
think he is. We'll see up and downs games like that.
This is just what the Penguins are. We overreacted to
the towards start. I know I did because it was fun.
I hope the toward start resumes, but our worst fears

(04:13):
will likely be realized. No playoff berth and no high
draft pick, just saying you can call for the next
segment eight three, three, four one two wxdx. Oh God,
here comes Vinnie Junior with space one man to beat
his kanate. Okay, he throws a really bad pass.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
We get it.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
We give it right back. We got I'm like the
gunner collin hockey. We got it now, they got it.
Game seven of the World Series drew almost twenty six
million viewers on Fox, the highest number of viewers for
a World Series game since Game seven and twenty seventeen,
so no matter what you say, no matter how much

(04:58):
you bitches out their wine wearing your Bucco hats, Baseball
isn't broken. The Pirates are broken, and MLB don't give
a rats ass about that. They say a chain is
only as strong as its weakest link. That's just not
true in big time, big money sports. It's just not

(05:18):
Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, Oh good
play by? Is that Connor Bradley MBOPI not Babapi. We
actually handlem abapy. Vinnie Junior just kills us to start
over my cliche analysis. They say a chain is only
as strong as its weakest link. But in big time,
big money sports, that's not true. It's not true in baseball.

(05:40):
MLB doesn't care about the Pirates, and Pittsburgh baseball fans
don't care about any of the above even a little bit. Okay,
I want to know what you think, and I bet
I know what you think.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
But I'm right and you're wrong.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Steelers should have traded two first round picks for Sauce Gardner.
At the very least, should have traded a fourth and
a sixth even a little bit better than that to
get uh Jacobe Myers, the receiver from Vegas. That's what
Jacksonville gave to get him. Oh God, file on Vinnie Junior,
John God, damn filing a good Let's let's call now

(06:19):
eight three three f.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Nine Market Afternoon Gallant to Mark mad what do you what?

Speaker 5 (06:26):
What do you want?

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Damn it?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
The exit one.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
A great time had by all last night at Pittsburgh
Brewing Company in Creighton with their big, big screen TV.
And we had the bobblehead bananza giveaway and we're doing
it again for Penguins Flyers on December first. That is
a great place to watch a game. Like I said,
the best, the best TV in town. Had a ton
of people, nobody was disappointed. Gave away a bunch of bobbleheads.

(06:55):
People love bobbleheads. I probably should not have underestimated the demand.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Let's go to Chris Long on his podcast talking about
the Steelers throwing as much as they are to Mount Washington.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
I think they found something yesterday with getting washing in
the ball. You know, it's kind of crazy because he
could be wearing to tackle number but if he can
catch the football, like you can put that ball anywhere
near his body. Yeah, and he's going to just be
putting it on dudes heads. Man, it's just going to
be like, you can't. He's such a mismatch.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
I'm not the biggest fan of throwing Washington to ball
or really of him, to be one hundred percent honest,
Friarmouth has been lessened John who is on a milk carton.
I get Washingtons the value as a blocker, but using
him as often as they are is part of what

(07:52):
makes the Steelers offense so prehistoric. And I don't trust
his hands, although, like Chris Long said, if you just
throw it into his body just kind.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Of envelops it.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
But that size, man, that size, it kind of works,
especially in that Neanderthal context, it kind of works. I
want your thoughts on the Steelers inactivity today on trade
deadline day. The deadline is beyond us in just an
hour from now. Uh the Colt Scott sauce Gardner for

(08:29):
two first round picks. Jacksonville got Jacoby Myers, the wide
receiver from Jacksonville for a fourth and the sixth. Those
are two deals I would have for sure made. I
want your thoughts at a three three four one two WSDX.
Let's go to Joe. Joe, you're on with Doblem.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yeah, Mark, I've never agreed with you more than what
you're talking right now about the lack of activity. You
know with con came Conin's making his Wepton right, it
wasn't the steer away. Yeah, he was picking people up,
but I mean it's adapt to die now. And that
move the Colts made, that's what I can't believe they
did that. I mean, like you said, curious teams.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Man, Well like, okay, the Steelers we always hear, oh boy,
oh Madrid Misstak heavens, we always hear the Steelers say
in posture.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
That they can win.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Okay, Well, then show me that you really think you
can win by making a move like this, because apparently
the Colts think they can win and win.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Now that's a huge move. You know. I remember back
to them teams, you know, with Paul mal and Ferrier Hampton,
it just had a feeling like you knew they were
going to get out there and just kick the crap
out of people.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Well, this team is now like have headed to the
same place that the other last many you know, seven
teams have headed two which is not winning a playoff game.
And and a lot of that trickles down from the organization.
I mean, I wonder what the locker room thinks when
they see deals like we're talking about that the Steelers
could have made and the best they can do today

(10:05):
so far is pick up Valdez Scantling.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Who's going to be a practice squad receiver. Yeah, let's
go to Mike. Mike, you're with double m.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Hey, Mark, how's it going.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I I was just saying that you say they should
trade for Sauce.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
I think they should trade for Tom Brasough.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
I don't get it. Was that supposed to be funny
in some way? I don't. I don't get it at all.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I mean, seriously, you call trying to be funny, and
you you are so unfunny that it makes your mom
sound like an ass.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Anything else? Okay, good, good try.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
And by the way, if you're if you're that guy's
mom and you're listening, you aren't asked by extension because
you produce somebody that unfunny, you're just an ass. Laisee
line open eight three three four one two w xd X.
That Penguin loss, if it wasn't a the NFL trade
deadline and the two deals I'm talking about, I think

(11:04):
would be even more so all over that Penguin loss,
and what made it even more frustrating, not only their
had three nothing after two periods, they killed the Leafs
for two periods, killed him outside of twenty five to eight.
I've played them so badly, and the guy I hanged
that loss on the most is Jari. But so many

(11:25):
things went bad, like allowing the best player on the
other team to get a breakaway at three nothing, putting
Gino on Sid's line, which never works, and the motive
Ford is something that I can guess at and don't
like Ben Kindle being great on the power play than
not touching the puck on their last power play, even

(11:46):
though he's out there and ready to play as good
as he had and he had a power play goal.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
He's a phenom. I still hesitate to say he's the
first line center. He's going to be a real good second.
That kid is a phenom.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Up next, we're gonna keep talking hockey with our buddy
Peter McGuire. Pier up next to one O. Five to
nine Thursday night, the Pens hit the ice against the Capitals.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Game time is seven.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
Our coverage starts at six here every game, and the
best coverage right here on your home of the Pens
one O five nine d X.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
If you can't get it one over, buddy, be hitting
Dusty Road Tomican Dream, So be it, baby, d X.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
At one O five nine.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Peng was with a loss last night that could best
be described as soul crushing, joining me not to discuss
he is the best hockey guy on media anywhere. He
is peerre McGuire, Pierre. That's a bad loss last night
for the Penguin was at Toronto. What was the genesis
of that collapse?

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Base off play was really bad fifty one in favor
of Toronto. That was a big problem. The outshoot a
team seventeen to three in the third in the second period,
and then you lay in eight to start the third
with your best player not matching up properly against the
other team's top center and Sidney Crosby not matching up
on Austin Matthews. So there were a couple of major

(13:07):
standalone things that really caught mind. Then the third thing
was you can't have a two young kids pickering in
Brunneck on the ice against Toronto's top players at key
times of the game. In the third period, they were
on the ice against them twice and they gave up
two goals. So stuff happens. It's a learning experience for everybody,

(13:28):
including Dan News. I want to give him credit, though,
Mark when it was when Tronto scored those two quick
goals to start the third period, he called a time
out to try to stop things. That was really that
showed me that he's plugged in. He's not panicking. He's
got experience. He will continue to evolve and get better.
So these are all crefable mistakes. And I can tell

(13:50):
you right now, Sidney Crosby will not be happy with
the stated period last night, and anybody that's fair in
minded that evaluated that game will tell you that he
was dashed, probably the where third period he's played in
a long time. He will come back with a vengeance
and he will make everybody around him better because of
that third period.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Let's stay with sid for a second. Because Gino moved
on to Sid's line in the second period. I thought
it was a disaster. They just don't fit. What are
the pros and cons of that? And why doesn't it work?

Speaker 4 (14:18):
Because it doesn't well because Gino's more of a centerman
than I'm winger playing the wing in the NHL is
a lot different exercise for him. He's not moving nearly enough.
He needs to be in the middle where there's a
lot more ice. Part of why that happened is Noela
Chari got hurt, you know, within the first two minutes
of the game, and so that really causes the problem

(14:39):
for Pittsburgh in terms of depth on their lines, and
they're mixing and matching and they're trying to protect guys,
and I kind of get what they're doing, and they
get out to that lead, and all of a sudden,
everybody's feeling good about themselves being up three nothing. But
the problem is that certain guys are being played and
positions are not real good at and one of them
is a guinea Malcolm.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Yeah, to me, it just cripples the other lines, and
not least like you said with the Chari out, Brazo out,
Raquel out.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
I know you have to mix a match, just not
what I would have done.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
No, But again, this is why I think I'm not
overreacting to this one, because it's a one game of
a long road trip game and there's a bad twenty minutes. Obviously,
I thought the bad twenty minutes in the Winnipeg game
was the first twenty minutes, the bad twenty minutes of
the Toronto games the last twenty minutes. And this is
a team that's trying to find itself and establish exactly

(15:30):
how they want to play. Injuries happen all the time.
I have to really think, though, how do this and
his people are gonna have to really evaluate that good
at tandem on the fence. Those kids are gonna be
really good. They're just not ready to be good right now.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Pierre, I'm not a Jarry believer at all. Four goals
on twenty shots, too deep in the net. Why does
he to me betray his talent? Because I do think
he's talented.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
He is talented. He's unbelievably talented. Mark and know for
good portions of the start of this year he's playing well.
But then all of a sudden, you see the backhand
goal by Willie Leeland, or you wonder about that, the
long range goal that goes in from the point, you
wonder about that, And those are things that go back
to where he was struggling in the previous three years,
where he looks small in goal. It's almost like he's

(16:18):
not hard on the angle, he's not anchored and nets.
These are all things we didn't see at the start
of this year, and now all of a sudden they're
starting to pop up, and I just wonder if it's
just he means to resettle a little bit. The good
news is marashops off to an amazing start in the
American Hockey League. Kilos has been a very good acquisition,
a lot like what Stolars was for Toronto last year,

(16:40):
who played really well for them last night, and goal.
So I don't think it's all doom and gloom for
Pittsburgh in that situation either. Patrician's just gonna to get
more anchored and make himself look a lot bigger in
gold than he did last night.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Would you still stick with the rotation and goal Jari
and Shiloff's just, you know, one in one game by game.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
No. I think if one guy starts to get a
little bit hot, I'd probably stay with him a little
bit longer. I know people are really up and I
can't believe all these pundits are putting this stuff out there.
While sixty five percent of a time you make the playoffs.
I wouldn't do that with this year. This year in
the league. This year is a really weird year in
the league. I'm telling it's going to be bizarre Overville
for a lot of these teams. And so these points

(17:20):
are precious, and I think the Pittsburgh payment hierarchy is
really aware of that mark, and so I think there's
going to be a massive impetus to try to win
as many points as you can. And early on here,
especially before the Olympic break.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Kindall got two goals and he's very good on the
power play.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
What's his ceiling, Pierre, I'm kind of rethinking what I said,
real good second line center that still I'm sticking, but
I don't know, maybe better And why does he.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Seem to be arriving early? What is he produced out
of his bag of tricks?

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Well, first of all, he puts a massive point getter
in the Western Hockey League.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
It's a really difficult league to.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Play in a time in the Western Hockey League when
all the best players were going to play college hockey,
which they did after the last season. Number one, Number
two being around Crosby and Malcolm, especially for a short
periods of time, you can learn a lot if you
have open eyes and open ears, and he clearly has
that number three. Comes from an amazing athletic family. His
mother and father are both in the professional soccer business,

(18:19):
and I think that helps because he grew up around it.
And you'd have to say, right now, if you're looking
at first year players that are making an impact in
the league, Emmitt Finney out in Detroit, Ivan Demidoff in Montreal,
Matthew Schaeffer in New York on the Island, and then
obviously you Ben Kindle, I think those right now, of

(18:39):
all the young players in the league, those are the
four guys that have really stepped up and asserted themselves.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Here's a bold statement here. I made it early.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Let me see what you think when Raquel comes back.
I don't know who i'd take off the top power play,
but I would leave Kendall on it, and in fact,
I would have him on that left half wall and
have him run the power play.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
He shows me more.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Power play acumen than even guys like Crosby and Malkin.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
And I'm not kidding, no, and you shouldn't be. And
that's a strong statement, and I'm going to back you
on it because I've been watching this guy a lot.
And one of the things and I just came back
from Europe. By the way, I spoke at a big conference.
I know I talked to you last week from from
Dolph Ask and I'll tell you right now, Mark, and
I mean to sincerely, there's a lot of Mickey Backstrom

(19:24):
in this guy, and people probably don't want to hear
that right now. But the creativity, the peripheral vision of
passing ability, the understanding of how to create time and
space and seams by moving your feet a little bobbed
over your head or your shoulders or your hands. He
understands those concepts. Those are gifts. All those skills that
I just described, those serious gifts. And so you're not

(19:47):
far off base. And that now what's going to happen.
I think he's going to start getting pressure pointed if
in fact they run the power play through him, and
that's going to be a little bit of an adjustment
period for him. But once he gets through that, the
I to be fine.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
We're talking to Pierre Maguire.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Pierre's brought to us by always say flagging and traffic control.
Pierre Brunick struggled again minus two again. That's for a
bunch of games in a row. Should he be sent
back to junior, what would you do? What are the
pros and cons?

Speaker 4 (20:16):
I would send him back to junior Number one, Number two,
I'd want him to go to the World Junior and dominate.
He'll definitely be on Canada's World Junior team, especially with
shape for being gone to the National Hockey League. So
that's what I would want him to do. Want him
to go dominating. Then at the end of the season,
I want him to come back and be ready to
go so that he hits the ground running next year.

(20:38):
The one thing, and again, they've never had a World
Junior in Pittsburgh, so people don't really want to talk
about this, but I can tell you from all my
years experience, one of the great developing tools in all
of hockey is the World Junior Hockey Championship. It speaks
the process up for so many players. Crosby played in
two of them, and he hit the ground running. Falcon

(20:59):
played in three of them. You know, I can just
tell you like it. It speeds the process up gigantically,
and so I hope that he gets that opportunity. He
definitely needs it and.

Speaker 7 (21:11):
That would help him a lot.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
But I would really I sent.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Him back to junior now, Pierre, could you feel that
loss coming after Toronto's first goal. I did. And that's
even though the Penguins badly. I played Toronto for the
first two periods. Like you said, with the twenty five
eight shot margin momentum reverses, you knew Toronto would make
a push. But it's amazing how dramatic that one was.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
No, I think the biggest thing was how Austin scored
that first goal will start the third period, and when
he did, I was like, Okay, they're gonna have to
bear down here. And then when they didn't, and really Kneelander,
who missed the previous two games, started to take over,
I was like, Okay, this is gonna be a problem
because they've been taking it, you know, pretty hard on
the media up there in Toronto, even though they've been

(21:54):
kind of camouflaged because one of the great Cup playoffs
are going on for the tam Football League, and two
the Blue Jays are who were in the World Series
in point in Game seven, so these guys have been
kind of protected from the media. But really, you know,
the star players have been taking it pretty hard in Toronto,
and I think really wanted to prove a point, especially
when he was playing with Knives and Matthews, and he

(22:16):
did take over and then put on a show. So
I'm kind of with you. When I saw Austin score
to start the third pier, I was like, uh oh.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Now you said there were some missed assignments, some boxes
by the Penguins on the Matthews goal.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
What were those specifically?

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Pierre Well Sid Sid number one. That's a simple coverage
playoff of face off and Sid thoughs he lost the
draw to Matthews. Matt they go D to D. Matthews stretches,
so they go from their side of the offensive blue
line to Pittsburgh's defensive blue line. They snap it up
that Sid's man because that coverage winger has winger or sorry,

(22:52):
wingers have the other team's defense and your defense have
the other team's wingers. And so the centerments covered off
on the center and then Sid just made a bad
read and that's what caused that to happen.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
The Penguins host Washington Thursday at PPG. Now does that
suddenly seem like a big game? You don't want to
lose another one in a row. And I'm not sure
where Washington's at right now at six' five and.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
One, now it's a.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
Great, point and it's a hard game because your first
game back after a trip and to The Washington. Capitals
they're definitely not in their normal. Headspace we just lost
Peer luke Du. Bois we'll see how long that's. For
Their American Hockey league team has been up and. Down
Their East Coast Hockey league. TEAM i washed them play
games this morning at ten thirty in the morning Against.

(23:38):
Orlando they got out shot forty nine to, nineteen and
they still found a way to win the. Game so
the entire organization is kind of trying to find their
way In. Washington but the loss of Cheer luke To
boston will be substantial for The. Capitals this is they're
going to be looking at as a must win. Game for,
THAT i think everybody's surprised By The penguins are a
great early season, field good. Story so, particular they set

(24:00):
to play this one like they're still on the. Road
don't play leg it's a home. Game play a leg
you're still on the, road because you Know washington's gonna
bring an a game On thursday.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Night Where's ovie?

Speaker 2 (24:09):
At he started real? SLOW i think he's gotten, better
BUT i still don't see the energy from last year
in The gretzky career. Goaltase we.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
AGREE i think most pundits around the league agree with
you as. WELL i think Even ovie's agreeing with, that
where he's, saying you know, WHAT i could be a
little bit. Better muff to this struggle. HERE i got
to get a little. BETTER i think eventually he will
find his. Way but, again you, know, people it's a
lot like The Boston. Ruins you Lose crazy And bergier
all That's those are two big losses In. WASHINGTON i

(24:40):
know it's a couple of years, now but you lose
backs when you lose his mets off together at the same,
time that's hard to bounce back From. Mark it really.
Is people In pittsburgh gonna find out eventually you're gonna
Lose MALCOLM. A. Crosby when you, do you know you're
lucky you got kindall, coming but you don't Have Crosby
malklin and you'll find out it's hard to replace those.
Guys guys have had the tenure that those great Centers

(25:02):
i've just talked about having their respective.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
Markets the leaves are real near five. Hundred where do
you buy into? Them where are they? At they're a weird, Team.
PIER i think they have good players.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
In a lot of. Holes you're talking About, toronto, Yep
oh my. Gosh so they Missed Scott lowton and he's
a third or fourth line, center so they miss him a.
Lot they're not getting a lot of consistency from their
bottom six. Boards in terms of, Offense they're really fortunate
That Nick robinson started to pick it up. Offensively massive

(25:36):
injury situation With Christopher tannet on the back, end so
that's kind of disjointed their. Offense simon Ben wine usually
plays on the left, side but because of the Tann
at injuries playing on the right. Side bad turnover by
him that led to A pittsburgh goal last. NIGHT i
can go down the, line chapter and verse For. Toronto
they desperately need to get some of their guys. Back

(25:56):
getting eland their backs helped them last, night but they
need to get a lot Or, nate you, Know, mark
they can see whatever they. Want they Miss Mitchell myner's
one hundred and two. Points there's no question they Miss Mitchell.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Myner now you Mentioned, shaeffer the first pickover, all the
eighteen year old rookie defense of The, Islanders.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Pierre he's.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
UNREAL i MEAN i heard about, him But i'm seeing
more THAN i heard about, him if that makes.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Sense he looks Like bobby or out.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
There so my.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
Comparable for him is there's a thought process player Like
Brian leach who starred for The New York rangers and
is obviously in The Hockey All team And Stanley cup,
champion and there's a ton Of Scotty niedermeyer and him
And Scotty meniedermyer won Three cups In New, jersey he
won At. Anaheim you, know he won Two olympic gold.
Medals a spectacular. Player shaeffer reminds me a lot of.

(26:48):
Him so if you're emerging the talents Of Brian leach
And Scotty, neiermyer you're something. Special and they're all three
of them have one thing in. Common well they're more than.
One but they can all. Skate they can all skate really,
well and they're all left. Shots and they caused problems
defensively too because they're all Real they were all real good.
Defensively so, no he sees a special. Player he's he's

(27:10):
definitely a special.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Player now well he makes The olympic BECAUSE i kind
of wonder with some of the young guys coming on,
strong how many will find their way Onto olympic, rosters
Including Matthew.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
SCHAEFFER i think it's going to be tough for. Him
the one THING i would, say And sydney would be
a great person if you're at The pittsburgh media person
to talk to about Is in two thousand and, Six
canada left all their young guys home and one of
them Was, crosby and they went To. TORONTO i was there.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
To do the.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
GAMES i was At Team canada's training. Camp it was
an unmitigated disaster THE o Six olympics For, canada. Unmitigated
it was bad for THE us too Because canadon AND
us didn't even play in the Low metal. Game it
Was sweden And. Finland AND i can tell You kan's
never going to repeat that mistake. Again they. Didn't in twenty.
Ten they brought a Young Drew, Dowdy they brought a

(27:57):
Young Sydney. Crofty you go look at the young.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Guys they brought a Young Mike.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Richards they brought a lot of young guys to that.
Tournament eventually they. Won they won in twenty. Fourteen they
haven't BEEN nhl players in The olympics since twenty. FOURTEEN
i Think canada will bring young. PLAYERS i just don't
know if they'll bring a lot on. Defense they might
bring one or, two but that would be.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
It funny you mentioned About canada not making that mistake.
AGAIN i believe THE us will make that mistake this.
YEAR i think they have a lot of young players
in the, ascension but the guys running the, team And
i'm a Big Bill garran, fan a Big Mike sullivan,
FAN i think they'll.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Go Old Home.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Week for, EXAMPLE i would Guarantee Patrick kane makes it
ahead Of Logan.

Speaker 7 (28:37):
Cooley that would be, heartbreaking not Because patrick doesn't belong,
there But Logan cooley does belong. There anybody that's Watching,
Utah i'm not saying this to do On pittsburgh, radio
AND i know he's A pittsburgh. Kid i'm telling, you
Watch utah. Play i'm going To washington night Against Buffalo.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
Utahs for. Real they're a real good. Team Logan cooley
is a great player for. Them to. Me With TEAM
usa in, particular you, know if they leave a Cold coffield,
Off you'll know that your theory is. Right if they
leave A Logan cooley, off you'll know your theory is.
Right so that'll be. Interesting COULD i just say one

(29:15):
more thing about? This the big question that the big
question That pundon should ask the TEAM usa hierarchy is
what were you thinking in the gold medal game or
the championship game or The Four nations last year where
you Left Kyle connor in the stands as a healthy?
Scratch what possibly were you thinking? About that needs to

(29:38):
be asked so that they don't repeat the same mistake. Again.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Peter, finally and we've talked about this, before but you
know you watch even more games THAN i, do AND
i watch a. Ton the goaltending in the league right
now is. Awful it's, awful like every game every. NIGHT i,
mean the BEST i can hope for is above average
from almost every goalie.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
You know playing really, well and you would never know
because their record is so. Bad Dustin wolf for The
Calgary planes is playing out of his. Mind Lucas doustall
And anaheim is playing pretty. Good he's playing pretty pretty.
Well but most of the other, CITIES i who exceeds
you one hundred percent that goalpending is a major issue

(30:21):
for in a lot of these cities right, now no.
Question But Dustin, WOLF i don't know how long his
career would Becau he's not overly, large but man o
man is he? Good he gave a fighting chance every
night In calgary and they are not a playoff.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Team or where my analysis comes, From pierre is everybody talks, About,
okay this team needs to go get a goalie at the.
Deadline the other teams need to go get a goalie to.
Deadline there's no goalies to.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Get they're just.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Arn't And i'm surprised in retrospect That John gibson didn't
draw more suitors when he got traded By anaheim Than
Jess detroit because apparently there weren't many.

Speaker 6 (30:54):
Interested, No AND i Think gurbeque was due Pat ubique
TO gm And. ANAHO i think he was doing a
favor To Steve, eisman who he worked for In tampa
and he worked for In. Detroit SO i think he
was Doing eiser in a favor singing.

Speaker 4 (31:08):
And, there which is. Fine that happens around a lot
around in The harrison And Bill torrey used to do
deals all the. Time, Glenn saylor And harrison used to
do deals all. Time that's just how it. Goes you,
know you can't comfortable doing deals with certain, guys but you're.
Right your point is spot on. It maybe one of
the most overlooked things is certainly THE nhl season is
the mediocre goaltending.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Scene pierre great stuff as always enjoyed the hockey this,
week Enjoyed penguins And caps On.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Thursday we'll talk again next. Week can't.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
WAIT i can't.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
Wait thanks a, Lot, mark take care of.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
Everybody that's the great.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Pair McGuire brought to this By Always Say flagging And Traffic,
control making traffic safe.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
