Speaker 1 (00:00):
There right now. It's good at Newman. Hello Newman, Hello Jay.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Do you think that the Steelers are better off now
than they would have been had they beaten the Browns
and been able to blow off the game yesterday?
Speaker 3 (00:11):
No, No, they would have been better off beating the Browns,
and for a very simple reason, they would have got
to rest the veterans. Now, we as fans would have
not been better off. In me, as a talk show host,
would not have been better off because that's a game
that's you know, very very memorable and one that's gonna
you know, have us talking about it for never mind,
(00:33):
you know, all week, like weeks and years to come.
So from an entertainment standpoint, it's good that they lost
to Cleveland. Heck, just a spectacle of losing a Cleveland
was entertainment, don't you agree?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Yeah, for sure. Well do you think that there was
maybe for the first time in a long time, an
actual change to the strategy between the first half and
second half last night?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
If there was, it was because of Aaron Rodgers period,
Mike Tomlin, you could like, Aaron Rodgers runs the offense,
and part of that irritates me because I think they
should run more but Aaron Rodgers winning the offense is
what won the game last night.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Let's go to Kitty, Kitty, you're on with double m.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Hey super genius.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
I was listening to the postgame conference from Cam Hayward
and he made a comment he thought that the Steelers
have played like a playoff team all.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Year, and that's just not true. You know what else
are they going to say? You're right, that's very accurate description, Kitty.
They've been hot and cold. They've not played like a
playoff team all year. Well, no, I'll dial what I'm
saying back because I don't want to speak at absolutes.
They played like a very borderline playoff team all year,
as confirmed by them waiting till week eighteen to clinch
(01:46):
a playoff birth.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
What do you think though, that he has the perception
they have.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
I don't think he thinks that. I think he just
feels like that's a good thing to say. Let's go
to Lou Lou.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
What's new?
Speaker 6 (02:00):
Mark? I just want to get your thoughts on what
you thought about Aaron Rodgers and Arthur Smith's kind of
getting in that argument.
Speaker 7 (02:06):
Kind of towards the end of the game, it seemed
like maybe.
Speaker 8 (02:09):
He couldn't hear him play calling the plays.
Speaker 7 (02:12):
They switched tlements and stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I wasn't sure if you thought that was like an
isolated incident or it kind of shows I'm not.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Sure why Aaron Smith would be mad at Excuse me,
I'm not sure why Aaron Rodgers would be mad at
Aaron Smith because something electronic breaks down.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
How is that Aaron Smith's fault? Arthur Smith's fault?
Speaker 6 (02:31):
True?
Speaker 4 (02:31):
True? So no, I think I.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Think Aaron Rodgers likes to hear himself talk and yell,
let's go to Bob. Bob, you're all with Mark.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Here's what I think you gotta get Bumbling a little credit.
Speaker 7 (02:44):
And this is where the credit is due is for
bringing Rogers in.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
That's where yeah, yeah, it depends what your goals are.
I mean, when you bring in a forty two year
old quarterback, you're not moving forward at all. You're playing
just for this season. And if you don't win a
playoff game, then the experiments failed. Heck, if you don't
get to the super Bowl, what good did it really do?
Because it's just yeah, as far as last night's game,
(03:12):
winning the division, making the playoffs, it's a great decision.
I just don't feel like anything ever changes about this team,
and I don't feel like this team is moving forward.
I think they're just wasting years trying to scratch out a.
Speaker 7 (03:24):
Playoff Berth, I give you that.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
But with Rogers having success, it does give other quarterbacks maybe, hey,
look at Steelers, would be a nice situation to come.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Tomlin gives you a good situation.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Yeah, no, and thank you for the call. No quarterback
wants to come here. No quarterback wants to come here, period.
Rogers would have rather gone to Minnesota, but they didn't
want him. No other team wanted Rogers besides the Steelers.
That's a fact. Let's go to Anderson. Anderson, you're own
with double M.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
What up?
Speaker 6 (03:58):
What up?
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Mine?
Speaker 6 (03:59):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (04:00):
I was I just had a comment on the Boswell thing. Okay,
so you you blow an extra point and then you
kick to the fastest guy down there to receive, like
like nobody said, hey dude, oh that's a good point.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Nobody's nobody's brought that up.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah they they Yeah, the guy got the big return
that put the Ravens sitting pretty I see. I think
Danny Smith's a buffoon, like the special teams guy, you know,
the gum chewer. I think he's an old buffoon, he's
a mascot, and I think just I think that's proof
in the pudding when just something is elementary of that
wasn't done.
Speaker 9 (04:36):
Saul should have thrilled him like just be like accidentally
knock him out and be like I was going for
the sith now, no.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Nobo, no, thank you for the call. Bos has done
plenty for this team. But you know you're right. Besides
missing the extra point, him putting that kickoff right in
the guy's hands.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Who did some damage. I mean I should have dropped
it in.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
I don't know, it should have done some besides that,
because that, as much as anything, almost lost the game
and I forgot about that for a moment.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Thank you for bringing it up.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
We got Butch, Bob and David on hold, we'll get
to you in a moment. It's calls on the fifteen's
next one oh five.
Speaker 10 (05:14):
Nine anems that were farm track good.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Mace is always a component of any nice date.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
Thank you for making my day.
Speaker 10 (05:22):
Yeah what you said the exit one O five nine.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
We've been talking mostly about the big Steelers win last night.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
They now host.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Houston in a wild card playoff game. That's Monday night
at Akroshur Stadium. You can come watch the game with
me at the Pittsburgh Brewing Company their big bar and
auditorium area. That's Monday night at Pittsburgh Brewing Company in Creyton,
home of Iron City Beer, and they have the biggest
(05:50):
big screen TV ever ever.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
So you got to check it out.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
And I'll be watching the Penguin game there to Sunday
night at five, So gonna be an ic light kind
of Sunday and Monday for the super genius. Now, we've
been talking about Miles Garret getting the sack.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Record a little bit.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
And here's an unusual stat because stray Han's claiming he
has the record for a sixteen game season. It took
Garrett seventeen games. But I don't buy that. The record
is most sacks in a season. But the year Watt
set the record, it took him six hundred and sixteen snaps.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
That's how many.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Played straighthn the year he said it, he played five
hundred and sixty seven snaps, and this year Garrett only
played four hundred and thirty seven snaps. I can't imagine
why he played that few snaps. Why there's such a
big disparity between him at four thirty seven this year
and what at six hundred and sixteen snaps when he
(06:45):
said it back in twenty twenty one. But the numbers
don't lie, and they spelled disaster for you at Sacrifice.
Now it's time for calls on the fifteen. Ston't know,
sponsored not surprised. Let's go to buy You're on a double.
Speaker 6 (07:01):
M Hey, Mark, how do you do?
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Great?
Speaker 6 (07:06):
Yeah, if you look at the Steelers ten wins, only
one of them was against the team that's in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
That's okay.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
Conversely, if you look if you look at their seven losses,
five of those were against teams in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Yeah, that's okay. They won the division. You can only
play who's put in front of you. You can only
compete in the division that that you you're in. So
I don't I mean, is that bode well for the playoffs?
Probably not. But I think they can beat Euston.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
I don't. I'm not sure they're going to.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
But but why would you think that that CONTs them out?
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Well, three of those games were at Act for sure.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
It's okay.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
I'm sure you can coach Chapter and nurse about you know,
strength of schedule and home and away and blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
But they have a home game in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Against the team with the great defense but kind of
a offense. It's a winnable game. All that matters is now.
I mean, my god, I thought I was Debbie nan Or.
I mean, anybody can cite chapter and verse on who
they've beaten, who they didn't. But if they beat Houston,
none of that matters, and if they lose to Houston,
none of that really mattered either.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
In other words, you wasted my time.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Let's go to Lou Lou, your own double m.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
With Falcon's potential return Thursday, Mark, how would you redo
the lines? I think it looks like it would be Novak, Chinnikov,
and Kendall on the third line, but mcgrorty and coven
and would be out.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
I'm not, I'm not. I I put Novak, I probably
scratch Novak. I go right back to malkin between Brazo
and uh Mantha, leave the sid line alone, I play
Chinnakov with I don't know. I mean, they they love
that fourth line, so I don't know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
I would not bench kids to.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Me, the purpose of this season is to develop kids.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Tammy, Novacs, some Ham and Ager.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Okay, I know he's got a couple of goals lately,
but but you know what, they probably will scratch both
McGroarty and coyven in because the coach.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
In some ways, the organization has lost the plot.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
They're so scared to death of Sid and his agent
that they are worried more than anything, more than they
should be about making the playoffs. So I'm sure they'll
do what you say, but it's not what i'd do.
I would dress coyvn In. I would dress Coyvenan, Kindle
and McGroarty every single game period.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
Well, would you consider moving Manton now if you're going
to trade him at the deadline anyway before he gets hurt,
When I think you could get a decent return for
him right now?
Speaker 1 (09:38):
They won't.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
They see things as veteran team. Make the playoffs. Yay
for Sid, and I'm not criticizing Sid, but they are
scared to death of him and his agent, so they've
lost the plot of what I think the season should be.
But I'll be excited as anybody if they make the playoffs.
It's just not the way I would be doing things.
Thank you for the call. Let's go to the Egyptian.
(09:59):
But hello, my friend, Hey Mark, Uh.
Speaker 11 (10:04):
Like everybody else, you know, Steve his fan. I'm happy
to but one thing I saw at the end, and uh, Tomlin,
you know, thumping his chest. I never criticized him, you
never seen me do it. But that was very little because.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
No, I got no problem.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
I mean, I I can't get mad because they're celebrating
winning the division. I just don't think it means that
much unless they win a playoff game. But why shouldn't
they be happy about that? I I think it's well.
Speaker 11 (10:32):
He was something his chest as if his defense.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Stopped them, and.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
What's he supposed to do?
Speaker 11 (10:41):
Okay, I just didn't like the fact that he was
pumping his chests.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
I just don't.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
I don't like Tomlin. But but they won the division.
I mean they should be happy. They should be thumping
their chest. I mean, you know, I think you're being
too picky.
Speaker 11 (10:58):
Well, okay, maybe I am really mad. Is Steeeners almost
gave that game away? As do not know adjustment?
Speaker 3 (11:10):
They did give it away and Baltimore gave it back exactly.
Speaker 11 (11:15):
That's exactly my point.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Well, what adjustment didn't they make, Bob, What adjustment didn't
they make?
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Well?
Speaker 11 (11:23):
They got three, two touchdown and one. You know that
the guy that put it on twenty.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
That's that's not that's behind. That's not adjusting, that's not covering.
That's poor player execution.
Speaker 11 (11:38):
How do you leave the number one flowers by himself?
Speaker 3 (11:43):
You know, Bob, this is a rare occasion. I would
love to criticize Tom Win and his defense sucks. That's
what he's known for and it's the most expensive defense
in history and it sucks, and that's on him. But
Jalen Ramsey is the goat on all three of those plays.
Thank you for the call, though, Bob. Is always a
pleasure to speak with you. But right now I want

Speaker 3 (13:54):
My guest right now, it does great work covering the
Steelers for the Post Gazette. Always a pleasure to welcome
to the program, Ryan bathco Bron. I want to talk
about the quarterbacks first. How great was Rogers on that
last drive? Six play, sixty five yards in just eighty
five seconds, made it look easy. What about that drive
impressed you the most about Rogers?
Speaker 7 (14:15):
I think that he was just letting it Rent Mark,
I mean, I was really down on the way they
played in Cleveland, and I actually thought, maybe even more
than the Arthur Smith game plan, the sped up internal
clock for Rogers to not get sacked by Garrett was
something that really harpooned their chances.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
So you think that was a factor him trying to
avoid that record breaking sack.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yeah, yeah, I kind of do.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
Whether it was about the record or just not wanting
to get sacked by a guy who was saying since
June that Rogers was going to have to go in
his graveyard. I don't think he wanted that, and they
even said it on the broadcast that he told them
very clearly. I guess in their pre production meeting that
he did not want to be in that picture with Gary.
So obviously everything was fu bar in Cleveland. But after
(15:06):
a rough start last night where I was wondering, okay,
is this going to be two clunkers in a row
for Rogers to go out on, really starting in the
second quarter, you saw him start to put some things together,
and like you said, certainly by the end he was
firing on all cylinders and just seemed to be playing free,
letting it rip. And there was Calvin Austin to haul it.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
In well with Rogers at forty three. I think it's about,
you know, courses for horses. I think Cleveland, with all
the pressure, even though that team's not good, that's a
tough matchup for him. Baltimore is a better team, it
doesn't really apply much pressure. But now here we go
with Houston coming to across Shaw Monday night for a
playoff game, and they really apply more pressure than anybody,
don't they.
Speaker 7 (15:49):
Yeah, I mean their defense is nasty. I don't know
that they have some of the big name guys that
we've seen the Steelers play in recent weeks, from Miles
Garrett to Aiden Hutchinson, but you know, certainly Daniel Hunter
and Will Anderson and Stingley at corner. I mean, they're
just there's a reason why they have been dominating teams
(16:10):
on this nine game win streak. And I was even
looking back at the last time they gave up more
than twenty one points in a game was a win
against the Jaguars to kick off this streak, and the
Jags got a punt return touchdown I believe in that one.
So even that one, it's not like Trevor Lawrence put
up a great stat line. So they've just been smothering teams.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
They're red hot.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
They get it done in a bunch of different ways
at every level of that defense, and we've seen the
Steelers have some issues with those, even front teams. Mike
Tumman always makes a big deal about it. I assume
he will again tomorrow, and they're gonna have to be ready.
Rogers is gonna have to have some counter punches ready
for sure.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I want to talk about Lamar too.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
He threw those three great passes, the two touchdowns to
Flowers and the one the Lively that should have set
up the game winning field goal except the rookie kicker
missed it. But overall, I didn't feel like Lamar played
a great game outside of those three passes. And they'll
get me wrong, the impact of those were considerable.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
Yeah, I mean, I'm a Lamar guy. I'm generally a
believer in Lamar. I think he's gonna get over the
hump at some point. I think he's a better shrower
than a lot of people give him credit for, and
certainly has improved in that aspect. But John Harbaugh, to
his credit, I think, did what a lot of the fans,
both in his city and up here in Pittsburgh were
suggesting he should do, and he didn't lean on Lamar
(17:33):
a ton earlyer in that game. They did try to
establish the run with Derrick Henry. So at one point,
you know, I looked at the stats on my laptop
screen and Lamar had thrown like nine or ten passes
or something like that. So they were efficient when he
did let it fly, and he was really just in
that funk. I guess, you know, late third quarter, early
fourth quarter where it seemed like every ball he threw
(17:53):
was getting batted. Logan Lee played one snap last night
and had a batted ball on Lamar, so it at
that point it seemed like the game was sped up
for him and the Steelers were just coming downhill. But man,
you look at that Houdini played to escape Alex Heismith
and keep his eyes downfield. I mean, he's a game
changer when he can do that. So they continue to
(18:15):
just end up grasping at straws at the end of
these seasons for them. But I still think Lamar, by
and large gave them a great shot to win.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Yeah, I still wish they would have run Dereck Henry Moore.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
I think that the Steelers never got battered, never got discouraged.
It's tough to play against Lamar, but with him, you're
chasing them around. With Henry, you're absorbing punishment. And I
don't think twenty carries was enough.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
Yeah, I mean, I know there was a lot of
analysis going into the game of the Steelers they should
just hat or excuse me, the Ravens. They should just
hand it to Henry every time. He had thirty five
carries last week and get them to forty this week.
I understand the sentiment, but you do have to remember
these are still NFL players on the other side, and
Derrick Henry, while I think you could argue he's still
(19:01):
the best running back in the league, or at least
the best at the way that he plays the position,
you can't necessarily.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Just ram it into the line over and over when
a team is gearing up to stop that.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
Now, if there was any team that could maybe put
that to the test, it is the Ravens when they
play the Steelers. But I give the Steelers a lot
of kudos for figuring it out there in the second
half and Cam Hayward blowing stuff up almost single handedly.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
At times. The defense the.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
Front looked the way it's supposed to look with all
the money that they're investing in it. Hey, you want
to run one run one way, Cam Hayward will be there.
You want to run the other way.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
TJ. Watt will be there.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
And now Derek Harmon and Alex Heismith have been really
good second fiddles too, so they did make it difficult
on John Harbaugh and Todd Monkin to say, hey, we'll
just keep running Henry in there and hope.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
We pop one.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Yeah, and the backup running backs didn't get many carries,
but that was because they got nothing going for the Ravens.
I don't know, I mean, like Ramsey got killed and coverage.
It's just like the inconsistency of that defense as a unit,
but also a lot of the individuals that might be
the most frustrating thing.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Brian, Yeah, and.
Speaker 7 (20:10):
I you know, every game I do the instant analysis
for the PG and there's always someone who's trending up
and someone.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Is trending down.
Speaker 7 (20:18):
I put Terrell Austin in the down category. I know
it's Mike Tomlin's defense, but if Terol Austin's kind of
controlling anything, it's the strings in the secondary there, and
in the moment, it's hard to know.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
Was it a poorly.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
Coordinated secondary on those plays or was Jalen Ramsey taking
some chances that he really shouldn't have. Was that the
inexperience at the safety position kind of rearing its ugly head.
I guess we'll find out, or maybe we won't if
Jalen Ramsey doesn't want to peel back to curtain at all.
Terrell will talk to us at some point this week
(20:52):
and perhaps he can shed.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Some light on it.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
But those guys on the Ravens that first touchdown pass
to Walker who was a a no name coming in
here replacing Rashaan Bateman in the lineup. Lamar Jackson could
have thrown it the two guys.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
Flowers was wide open as well. He had a step on.
Speaker 7 (21:08):
Whoever it was who was covering him, might have been
Joey Porter Junior. So it looked like they were confused
by some of the formations that the Ravens were throwing
at them. And you'd have to think that the Texans
are already in the lab figuring out some ways to
attack that secondary as well.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
We're talking to Brian Backo with the PG here on
the Mark Madden Show. Brian, I want to move forward
and talk about CJ.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Stroud.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
His numbers are not overwhelming, but he's not asked to
do a ton. They have a very steeler like approach,
don't they. The Texans. They like to get a lead,
but then they don't try to extend it. They kind
of rely on defense. They don't mind a rock fight,
which might figure well for the Steelers.
Speaker 10 (21:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
Yeah, there's some mirror images a little bit with these
two teams. And you know, I think when it comes
to the Texans their receiving corps, when Hell is getting better,
they've invested a lot in that couple second round picks
this year, I believe, both out of Iowa State oddly enough,
but Nico Collins is really good. I know he didn't
(22:11):
play against the Colts because they were resting him, but
I mean, he's explosive. I think he's probably one of
the more underrated receivers in the league. He just doesn't
necessarily have that name value or recognition, but he always produces.
The running game doesn't really scare you, you know. I
think if they can kind of make the Texans one dimensional,
(22:32):
then yeah, it does turn into a slugfest. But you know,
don't get caught up in viewing them as that team
that early in the season was really struggling and even
last year didn't build on their twenty twenty three success.
They end up firing Bobby Slowick the coordinator, and the
new guy was having some struggles early on. But I
still think that they can beat you in the passing game,
(22:53):
for sure.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
What did you make of the end? Because I still
know what the freak happened. I don't consider kickers to
be real football players. I guess they proved it because
one guy blew it, then the other guy blew it.
Speaker 7 (23:09):
Yeah, I mean that's kind of what I wrote was,
I don't want to just fall back on Hey, this
was a flukey win for the Steelers, because if Boswell
doesn't miss an extra point for the first time since
nineteen eighty two, you know, we're sitting there saying, Okay,
maybe the Ravens tie it and they go into overtime
and who knows how it plays out at that point.
(23:30):
But you know, the other weird thing about it is
if Boswell makes it, and the Ravens are in a
little bit of a different calculus there on that final
drive with three timeouts because I guess their helmet headsets
were working and.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
They didn't have to burn timeouts, maybe.
Speaker 7 (23:45):
They attack a little bit more aggressively and maybe they
finish it in the end zone and we're sitting here
talking about the season being over for the Steelers. But yeah,
I mean, that was such an illogically logical way for
this AFC North season to end, because it was so
back and forth. You're counting out the Ravens, then they
come storming back. Then they're on death's door again, and
(24:07):
then they have a chance to control their own destiny
and knock out the Steelers. And I really thought they
did when Isaiah likely pulled down that ball, only for
poor Tyler Loop to live in infamy in Raven's lore
by miss it pushing that one wide right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Great, mindsnick act because I thought the same thing of
Boswell makes the extra point. Maybe the Ravens try to
finish off that drive with a touchdown and get a win,
take maybe one or two shots at the end zone,
and who know how that works out. And I gotta
tell you that kicker, I know we had a good
season up till then you can't.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Bring them back.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
He'll never be trusted by that team, by that fan base,
by anybody. Again, that might be kind of a hard
thing to say, but it's the right thing to do.
Speaker 7 (24:50):
I don't know what they'll do with them, but I
think it's interesting to kind of turn it over in
your brain. Like one of the biggest intangibles to me
for head coach in the NFL is you just have
to have that innate feel and innate sense of your team.
And you know, John Harbaugh's the guy who interacts with
that kicker every game, every day at practice. He's probably
(25:15):
you know, picking his brain here and there about certain things.
And you're I imagine, you know, I've never been in
those shoes and never will be, but probably trying to
look in the guy's eye a little bit as you're
coming down to the wire and again get a sense
of is he going to drill this thing or is
he going to feel the pressure and miss it? And
I guess Harbaugh overestimated his kicker to a degree because
(25:37):
the guy had made more than ninety percent of them
coming in. He hadn't missed the field goal from less
than fifty yards. There's no reason to watch that kick
except for just the weight of the moment. And obviously,
if he could do it all again, he would do
it differently. He'd try to get closer, make it easier
on loop. But yeah, I mean that that guy is
(25:58):
just in a world of hurt today. I really give
him respect though for facing the music. I think he
did like a seven minute.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Group interview with the Ravens media after the game. That
is not easy to do. But I'll give him a
pat on the back for that.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
And I don't know if the Ravens will bring in
competition or what, but that's a rough one.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
I don't think there was ever any pressure on Tomlin internally.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
I don't think he was ever likely to leave.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
But you think winning this game, which was kind of
an invented fake playoff game, does that put an end
to talk about that or let's spring up again if
they lose to Houston.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
I don't know the way.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
You put invented fake playoff game, because I was sort
of thinking about that myself today driving to and from
the locker room. It's like, does it feel like they
want a playoff game a little bit? But it's not.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
I think it feels that way to the citizens though,
and I think it feels that way to you know,
Tomlin's boosters in the media who want an excuse to
say is the greatest coach ever? My god, Brian, he
tied Chuck Knole yesterday for career wins. That's like comparing
diet coke to Don Perignon.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
I'll just throw this statistical twist on that. I mean
he tied him for regular season wins if you include
the playoff games, which I happen to like to do
because those matter, and they matter even more. Chuck Nole
is still well ahead of Tomlin.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
But yes, I get it.
Speaker 7 (27:22):
Regular season success, he's now tied him. It's kind of wild.
I mean, it was win or go home, but it's
still a ten and seventh season and it's still to
me coming into this year, it was very black and white.
If you win a playoff game and you finally get
past the wildcard round, I'll give them credit for taking
(27:44):
a step forward and being better and having tangible progress
to hold on to. In point two, I'm still not
there yet with this team. I'm not taking anything away
from them from what they did last night, but you know,
the headline on my column was, now the stage.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Is set to actually show that you've taken that step forward.
So they kind of did the bare.
Speaker 7 (28:04):
Minimum to give themselves the bracket and a bid in
the dance, because they put themselves behind the eight ball
to even have to win that game last night. To
begin with, with what happened in Cleveland and some of
the earlier misfires, in the season. But yes, I think
to answer your question, the negativity is diminished after the
(28:25):
way they pulled that out, And it's just fascinating to me,
the razor's edge of If Luke just makes that kick,
everything is different.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
But hey, that's sports, that's football, that's why they play.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
The games, no question, and I think that I don't
think Tomalin was ever on the hot seat.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
I think that was fabricated.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
I don't think the organization will ever put him on
the hot seat no matter what I will say.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
I think winning that game in.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Memorable fashion with him, you know, becoming a superhero in
the last two drives.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
I think now they bring Rogers back for sure, if
he wants to.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Yeah, I agree with you.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
I think if Rogers wants to come back, it makes
sense to keep Mike in place. I'm sure Rodgers wouldn't
want to come back and play for a head.
Speaker 10 (29:12):
Oh no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
If you're gonna bring Rogers back, you got to bring
Tomlin back for sure.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
Now, if they had lost that game, and shoot, even
if they lose next week and again you're stuck on
that same hamster wheel of making the playoffs and getting bounced,
especially if they get blown out yet again. If the
Texans follow suit with the Ravens, Bills and Chiefs before them,
you know, I could still understand, Hey, is it really
(29:40):
worth it for Tomlin to oversee.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Another quarterback change?
Speaker 7 (29:44):
Lord knows they've tried enough of them, from Mitch Trubisky
to Senny Pickett, to Justin Fields in some capacity, Russell
Wilson and then Aaron Rodgers. It muddies the waters a
little bit that they want such a huge game against
the Ravens, and that, to me is kind of the
the Tomlins steek. If there's any left, is that they
just stay.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
In these games and win these bizarre games.
Speaker 7 (30:05):
But I still need to see more to feel like
there's hope on the horizon, and you.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Know, beating the Texans would do that for me.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
Brian's always great stuff, great stuff at the PG. We'll
talk again soon, I hope.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
All Right, Thanks Mark, see you.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
That's Brian Batco does a great job covering the Steelers

I think I forgot to plug eighty four lumber at
the top of the hour, So there you go. Consider
yourself plugged. Okay, we know that some goofball priest was
on the field yesterday sprinkling holy water, and now they're
(32:18):
selling holy water with a Steeler's logo on it in
the Strip districts, although I have a hunch it's not
really holywater, probably not in sanctified, probably tapwater, just put
in a bottle with a Steeler's logo, which I would
think the Rooney family would.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Not be crazy about. But now the same priest.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
Is apparently trying to exercise Mike Tomlin's playoff demons.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
And we have a sign by the Christ compels you.
The power of Christ compels you, The power of Christ
compels you.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
I gotta tell you that doesn't strike me as particularly compelling,
but hey, it's worth a try. Let's ask Mark anything
a three three four one two w XDX.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
I'm still scared to watch The Exorcist.
Speaker 11 (33:13):
I am.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
I saw it when I was.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Like thirteen or fourteen, didn't sleep, had nightmares for like weeks,
and saw it again as a young adult.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Same thing.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
It's the scariest movie ever. Uh, let's go to Justin.
Justin ask Mark anything, what I mean?
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Hey, So I have a buddy who is a huge
Men United fan, and so he's talking about Ammering all
the time.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
All I know about him is that.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
He just got fired, you know, and he you know,
he just got fired. You know, he just got fired.
Speaker 13 (33:47):
Okay, Yeah, I was curious if you compare him to
if anyway him and Mike Tomlan are kind of similar
in your.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
Eyes in that regard.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
No, because Tomlin won a Super Bowl. Ruben am Marine
just went to Man.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
United and shot his mouth off and tried to jam
square pegs and to ron holes and he leaves an
abject failure. And I don't feel sorry for him at all.
But given to this Man United at all is very funny.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Gotcha, thanks for the call.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
You know what he was told on his way out
the door, The power of Christ compels you.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
That's what I heard. Let's go to a talkback.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
What band.
Speaker 9 (34:24):
Do you dislike more Grateful Dead or Dead in Company
or Fish?
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Fish, I dislike Fish much more than the Grateful Dead.
I dislike both.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Would never see either live, never bought a record that
either cut, but just Grateful Dead at least built a
following and had credibility. I mean Fish built a following too,
but it rode the back of the Grateful Dead with
all that jam band bs and just their materials even worse,
if that's possible. So I am not, in the slightest
(34:59):
bit a Fish fan. Let's go to Jerry. Jerry, you're
only double.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
M hey Mark, you're talking about the Exorcit. I also
put the Shining in there. I've seen the whole Shining,
but I've never watched it in one sitting. How do
you feel about Poltergeist? Because I feel like those three
are probably the scariest movies I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
I've seen all three.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
I've seen The Exorcist, The Shining, and Poltergeist on a
scale of one to ten in terms of scariness, I
would rate Poltergeist a five. I would rank The Shining
an eight, and I would rank The Exorcist to fifteen.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
Good rank.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Like when I watched the shining or poltergeist.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
I never imagined that something like that would happen to
me or in my home with the Exorcist. I could
imagine it, but I got over it because the power
of Christ compelled me.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Let's go to Dave. Dave a spark anything, Hey.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
Mark, I made a lot to get the let out
on Friday and I saw you from Afar.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
They were tremendous.
Speaker 7 (36:06):
I wanted to see them for a long time and
really enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
But I was just curious.
Speaker 7 (36:10):
Have you seen other led Zeppelin cover bands and how
they compare to get the let Out?
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Well, tribute band is the proper term. Get the letout
sounds better than any of them. Some of them dress
up and I like their presentation. I think the best are,
in some order, the very top ones that get the
let out Jason bonhams led Zeppelin Evening and after that
probably Zozo, who I think are at Stage A at
(36:36):
the end of this month.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
I think I'm out of town.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
I can't see them, but those are the three that
come to mind immediately when I think. And there's one
called Kashmir that's very good too. Actually, there's another called
led Zeppelin too. There's a whole bunch of real good
led Zeppelin tribute bands out there, and that's because they've
been around a long time. Because led Zeppelin, you know,
(36:57):
folded up shop. What was it nineteen, you know, seventy.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Nine or eighty. So like now you're gonna see what
Ozzy and Aerosmith done.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
I think you'll see more Ozzie and Aerosmith tribute bands,
although Aerosmith Steven Tyler is very hard to knock off.
Let's go to Doug. Doug ask Mark anything.
Speaker 8 (37:15):
A lot of super genius. Quick question. Have you ever
seen the footage of when Mark Gastineau cornered Brett Favre
and was fictioning about him giving straight hand the sack record?
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (37:27):
I did see, and Mark Astoneau was totally justified in
doing that.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
I think so do I I just.
Speaker 8 (37:33):
Wonder if he saw because he looked like he wanted
to really tear him apart.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
I thought he should have beat that hill billy's ass.
Speaker 8 (37:41):
Yeah, I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
Super turned out to me.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
This terrible person em bezzling from poor people in Mississippi.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
My god, what a scumbag. One oh five ninety x
