Speaker 1 (00:13):
Time to talk more Steelers football with former quarterback Charlie Batch.
You can hear it on these Steelers Radio Network postgame show. Charlie,
isn't good or bad if Sunday's game turned out to
be meaningless because the Steelers have already clinched. I know
you want to be sure you're in, but boy, two
weeks of meaningless games before the playoffs, I'm not totally
(00:34):
sure that's good.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, neither am I.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
And this is the part that scares me because that
means after meetings on Saturday night in Cleveland, will all
be huddled around the TV to all be watching the game.
And for whatever reason, if Baltimore loses and you clinch,
now it kind of takes the you know, the heightened
whatever motions that you have throughout this game, you know
there is not necessarily there anymore. And I think ultimately,
(00:57):
now do you go into La and a do you
go and a steel canninue to carry the momentum like
you had prior to this game.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
So this is the part that really scares me.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
But to your point, too mean of his games, man,
I think that will hurt him going into the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
If the Cleveland game is meaningless.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
How much do you play guys like Rodgers and Hayward
the rest of the year.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah, I could see you probably resting, maybe Hayward because
you do have some of the young studs coming back,
But Aaron, you still want to get into a rhythm.
And all year all we talked about is the lack
of a number two receiver. They were down on Roman
Wilson as a healthy scratch the last two weeks. Now
your minus DK and now they're trying to convince us
that Roman is going to be this guy this week.
So you want to see him more involved in the offense.
(01:37):
But yet what does the report look like with Aaron Rodgers?
So that part scares me at this particular point. But
also I don't think that there's going to be a
lot of passing in this game anyway, only because of
the elements that's going to play itself out on Sunday,
which is a lot of.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Rain, right right. And how has Dylan Cook done?
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I mean he's going to be up against Garrett in
this game, which you know, Garrett going for Watson season
sack record, But I think Dylan Cook's done real good,
maybe not enough to be the long term starter, but
enough to have a job in this league.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yeah, it's possible.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
And I think he's done enough to convince at least
raise the eyebrows of the organization to say, wow, we
really hit on the gym right here, because here he
is a fourth tackle and now elevated up and he's
done very good. And I think ultimately, you know, he's
not going to be one on one with Miles Garrett
if they do. I mean, obviously you have to shame
on the coaching staff if they allowed that game plan
to allow one on one with Dylan Cook. But I
(02:30):
think ultimately he did enough to say he belongs in
this league. He kind of reminds me of that Al
Villanueva type because you didn't expect much, but yet he
turned into a really good left tackle.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Maybe that's the trajectory that Dylan Cook is on.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, played a different position in college, all that sort
of stuff. There are definitely similarities. Charlie.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Let's talk about the Steelers passing game. It seems to.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Find a rhythm, and a lot of that rhythm is
Rogers throwing the running backs, isn't.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
It It is?
Speaker 3 (02:56):
But you know, again, a lot of that is coverage
because sometime when you do get the double teams on
the outside, you just run people off and you now
have one on one typically what your tight end and
you're running back, and they should win those matchups. And
that's why you saw the running backs in the manner
that you are heavily involved, especially Gangwell, because you know,
one on one, they feel like he can beat anybody
out there, and that's the matchup that you choose to
(03:18):
look at Tenneth Gainwell.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
I knew he was good. I didn't know he could
do what he's doing.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
That catch at Detroit and gets up and goes for
the touchdown, that's just about miraculous. What do you think
has caused his ascension as a Steeler? Is it just
opportunity Charlie or is it something more?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, I think it's more opportunity because last year, of course,
he was behind Saquon Barkley and he was having that
monster year and he really never came off the field
because he's a three down back. But ultimately that's where
Gangwell was able to kind of you come in and
splurge occasionally there. But now with Jalen Warren, especially with
injuries that he had throughout the course, of this season
allowed Gangwell more of the opportunity to and when he did,
(04:00):
You're like, Wow, this guy deserving to be on the
field more and more and more because last year when
Najie Harris was here, that was Jalen Warren's role third
down back. Now Gamewell has proven that he can play
and do it at a consistent level. And man, this
guy really is talking about potential team MVP if you
want to be frank with it, I know, typically it's
a quarterback driven award, but Aaron Rodgers, he's literally right
(04:22):
up there.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
It is deserving of the conversation.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
No question.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
He's in definite contention along with Rogers and maybe Jalen
Ramsey up with d kot for a couple games. How
does the depth chart shake down wide out? And what
will the game plan be as far as passing?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, I think you know right now.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
I mean just the way that the Adam Feelin has
been here over the last couple of weeks. He only
was here a couple of days and they elevated him
into a starting role. So you're still gonna see him there.
You're gonna still still see mvs. But again, they want
to see Roman Wilson, and they're going to say, this
is your time right now to prove with nobody out
that you can go out here and get it done.
(05:00):
I know there was a lot of plays that you know,
you can go back and look at and say he
was open on certain play, but for whatever reason, Aaron
Rodgers didn't throw his direction. So this is a huge
game for him, not just for this Stealers organization, I
think primarily for the length of his career to prove
that he is a caliber starting, caliber or receiver in
this league.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
We're talking to Charlie Batch here on one oh five
nine next. Charlie, Like everybody, I'm sure you're sick of
talking about the DK incident, but what's your short and
skinny on it.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah, I mean when I look at it, I mean
I knew the suspension was going to happen, definitely for
one game, but two Yeah, it could be a bit excessive.
But ultimately, at the end of it, you're looking at
if you're the league leads out, You're like, what would
even cause you to leave your bench aerry to go
over to the fan and don't know what was what
those conversations look like, But that's you know the perception
of what the rest of the world have seen. So
(05:50):
regardless of whatever issues that were happening, that's it. The
only thing that I say off of this, And I
heard Aaron Rodgers sound bite, so herd Cam Hayward's sound bite.
You know, for me, I wish at some point in
the next collective bargaining agreement, I really look at it
and hope that maybe the players and owners come together
and maybe there's some type of code of concept, especially
for sportsmanship, because you do have some fans that you know,
(06:11):
go overboard, and you know, there are a lot of
fans who are phenomenal at game, but you do have
some that go a little bit overboard thinking that they
can say whatever they choose to say. I just hope
that maybe they can come up to kind of an
agreement similar to what the NBA does. Say, Hey, man,
we have no problem with the bannering going back and forth.
When you start going overboard, then you get security involved
(06:32):
and say, man, just calm this guy down. If they
continue to speak, then they're removed. If not, hey, this
is what we are. But again, something has to be
done because right now it is not a good look
for the league.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Overall, Trollie, what are you making the Steelers defense? The
more banged up it gets, the better it plays. I mean,
you don't want to be with out TJ. Watt in Herbie,
But look how Sawyer played against Detroit.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, both of those guys there, and I let you know,
the depth is what you need to have at the
outside linebacker position. They've been hocking up Sawyer, but again,
he never really had the opportunity in the starting role.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
But man did he take advantage of that.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
So you could should and could be excited about what
they saw with Sawyer moving forward, especially for the future
of this But man, in order for this team to
get where they need to get, they have to get
TG back on the field. And you hope that it
happens next week at some capacity, even if the game
is meaningless. Get him out there at some point, just
to kind of get that conditioning back as he get
ready for the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
The defensive back that is kind of a microcosmo.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
We're talking about a lot of injuries there, but it's
actually played better. Let's assume by the playoffs, Charlie, that
all the dbs are available. What's your starting defensive backfield?
Because I think right now it'd be tough to decide.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, it does.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
I think for me, I would have Porter on one side.
I would have James Pierre on the other because I
really liked the way that he played. And of course
Brandon Echols is going to be in your third and again,
depending on which team that you're playing, if they're playing
four receiver sets, then you may elevate a Santi Samuel's there.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
So again, it's a good problem to have it.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
All of those guys are healthy and hopefully you went
on first a second down and that's where you can
come up with those exotic coverages on third down that puts,
you know, the advantage to the defense.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Aaron Rodgers is having. And I think we spoke about
this a couple of times, Charlie. I don't want to
say great year, but but in some ways it is.
I don't think he's doing a lot, but what he's doing,
he's doing extremely well. He seems to have figured out
what this offense can and can't do.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
He has and then and when I look at it,
termed effiicient because we're not seeing the yardage of what
we typically would see for that. But again, the way
that his touchdown the interception ratio is that is winning
football three to one ratio there as he has twenty
three touchdowns seven interceptions on the season. But I think
where he's looking to do, what I like, is just
to the command and what he's doing at the line
(08:45):
of scrimmage, because there are plays that are happening, there's
concepts he has. He has the opportunity to change whatever
he sees at the line of scrimmage, and that just
lets you know the trust that Arthur Smith has along
with Aaron Rodgers to be able to say, hey, I'm
a get you to the right play and I'm not
going to make a mistake. And the case in point
we all heard the sound bites that over the class
(09:05):
last week. When you look at Kenneth Banwell and he
just says just run a go route and it converts
into a touchdown. That'll let you know he has the
authority at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Charlie, it amazes me that he seems to be picking
up his game as the season gets older. At forty
two years old. That shouldn't be possible, but it's definitely happening.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
How is that, You're right?
Speaker 3 (09:25):
It typically you start to see that kind of decline
that's happening, but he looks like he getting stronger at
the second half goes on and man, he's doing a
phenomenal job of keeping his body in shape. His arm
looks stronger than it's ever been at any point of
this season. So that's a good thing for the Steelers there.
So he used to have to credit what he's doing.
But also mentally he knows where to go with the
football and as long as this team is not turning
(09:47):
over the football, man, he's going to get you in
the right play and you know you have a chance
in the fourth ward quarter with the ball in his hands,
with the chance to win the game, and you feel
pretty strongly about it.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Here's something we've seen in the last few weeks during
the three g I think they're using the middle of
the field more, not a lot, but more. I think
they're throwing deep more again, not a lot, but more.
I again, I think you've figured out the mix. But
talk about those two things, Charlie.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I mean the middle of the field has been dormant
over the last few years. We are all were scratching
his wondering why they were abandon in that now that
you're seeing that, you know, back into the arsenal here.
Now it keeps defenses honest because now you have to
make sure, okay, you're covering that tight end and you're
getting to that running back because they are hitting the
middle of the field an occasion. You see DK hitting
that middle of the field as well, So again that's
(10:32):
a you know, formation or at least a position he's
not typically playing, but yet you're hitting him in the
middle of the field. I like where that is at
and I think obviously that's going to keep the defenses honest.
And then once you get one person removed from the box,
you can get that running game going. So this is
you know, they got a nice little blend the formula
for success and right now they are dominating that time
of possession, something that we talked about throughout the entire season,
(10:55):
and now we're seeing when they do control it with
this offense.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Is capable of what did you make the end of
the Detroit game.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
It's one of the few games I've ever watched where
I had no idea what was gonna happen, who was
gonna win, what they were gonna call.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Thank god, they got it right. I think, but what
if they hadn't, Yeah, that would.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Have been rough.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
And obviously everybody in the stadium was confused because audio
heard was to touch down, however, and then everybody else
figured out what, you know, what the emotions were. But
as soon as I saw the replay and I saw
the offensive pass interference Appearence, I said, the game is over.
And of course you see you know, Jared Golf running
into the end zone. I said that that penalty stands.
I said, the game is over, and ultimately that's what happened.
(11:34):
So I didn't waiver as it relates to everything else
that happened, I would just more determine figure out what
the call was, if it was offense or defensive pass interference,
that would have ultimately determine what happen on the rest.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Of the play.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Finally, Charlie, where are all these opis coming from offensive
pass interference five in that Detroit game between the teams,
and I saw them all over the league.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
This past weekend. Somebody must descent on a memo.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah, those defensive guys are sending out memos inner saying
wait a minute, as hard as you are and being
critical of what we're doing on a defensive side of
the ball.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Guys, let's go back.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
And look at these plays and see what the receivers
are doing after five yards in the moment that they
extend their arm. You know, it's one thing to have
kind of a chicken wing near, but once you extend
the arm, that's offensive pass interference. So that lets you
know there's not just one team, there are a multiple teams.
Probably went to the league, showed a plethora plays to
say these are offensive pass interference, and now the referees
are starting to call that. Now that puts offensive players
(12:30):
on notice. That lets them know these calls are going
to be made. Now you have to play on.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Us, Charlie, great stuff is always great work on the
podcast with Trey and the postgame showan we'll do it
again next week.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Enjoy the game, I appreciate it. Thanks for having me.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
That's Charlie Bench love having him on segment.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Broda was by eighty four Lamber Dynasty partner of the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Get your calls in right now for calls
on the fifteens eight three, three, four to one two
WSDX and the more calls you get in, the further
we can push back in the less time, we have
to talk to mister Fred Afternoon, who is now on
a twenty and oh streak, and he's insufferable. A three
(13:05):
three four one two w xdx doublem on the Xeker
calls in a three three four one two wxdx. We
got mister Friday Afternoon at.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
The bottom of the hour. Some news from green Bay.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Jordan Love has definitely been ruled out, which you had
to figure once they clinched. Certainly so for that game
Baltimore green Bay, Jordan Love will be out. Lamar Jackson
is dompless. Looks very likely that that game will feature
a quarterbacking matchup of Malik Willis for green Bay.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Remember the Steelers bluffed.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
About drafting him when they took Picket. Should have took
Malik Willis. Malik Willis for green Bay and Snoop Untley
for Baltimore. I don't know who's going to win that game.
I bet it's a game with them two bums at quarterback,
but I'll watch it anyway. One thing that should be
very evident that we ignore because we just want to
(14:10):
watch more and more and more and more.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
There's too many games.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Too many games equals too many injuries equals Malik Willis
versus Snoop Puntley in what should be a big game.
It's a war of attrition. Games like this are no fun,
my babe, no fun. But if Green Bay wins somehow
(14:38):
with Malik Willis, who ain't terrible, heck, at least he's
better than Kenny Pickett, then the Steelers will cuinch the
division and can print those shirts that say we run
the North. Got no call today about the Pirates signing
Ryan O'Hearn.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
I think they now have as semblance of a decent.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Not great, but decent lineup.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
You know what you worry about with them, though, is
what if Schemes gets hurt? What if Chandler gets hurt?
But that's the same with well, not any team. The
Dodgers would just go get somebody else. But you get
my drift. Did you see the Dodgers? The third payroll
for this coming year is bigger than the payroll of
(15:26):
I think a little under half the teams in MLB.
Let's go to Colin and pennills calling you're all with
double M mark.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
In twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, you were saying Crosby and
Maulkets should be traded. They went on to win a coup.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
No's all, No, that's not true at all. Shut up.
I said markets should be traded.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I guess I was wrong about that, but I never said,
never said Crosby should be traded. I also said market
should be traded in twenty eighteen. How have they done
since then?
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Well, you're wrong about coach T. Mark that lines wind
shows it.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Yeah, goodbye.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
I'll be wrong about coach T, not even when he
wins a playoff game. I think more is required than
that for me to be wrong about coach. He's a bum.
Coach T would have been fired years ago with any
other team, no question. That guy just likes to call
and yell. I kind of like him.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Up next. I don't want to, but I have to.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
He's on a twenty game, well twenty and oh because
we wait the games, but twenty and over the last
three weeks, it's mister Friday afternoon.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Up next on one to oh five to ninety X.
Speaker 1 (16:35):

(17:51):
We welcome to the program, mister Friday Afternoon, Mister Friday Afternoon, Congratulations, you.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Went four and one last week. Not bad?
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Who know?
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Oh wait, I'm sorry, I I that was a typo.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
No, no, that was a that was a verbal error.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Tomato tomato.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Well, well, we're like put things in perspective. Twenty and
oh is the equivalent in this day's NFL that if
the team went undefeated during the regular season and one
of the playoff games and won the Super Bowl, that
would be the record would be twenty and oh.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
It's even what. I'm bigger than the seventy two Dolphins.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Yes, because there was only sixteen games like that. So
what I'm doing, what I've done in the past three
weeks is unprecedented. So if we could like get that
training hashtag unprecedented while while this uh, while this segment
goes on, it would really help. Uh. But but I'm
sure there must be tons of fans calling right now.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
No, you're not calling nobody.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
Well that's interesting.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Would you like to take the.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Fans absolute A?
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Three? Three four one two WSDX is the number to call? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
By the way, in seventy two, the Dolphins played only
fourteen regular season games and then three playoff games.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
So you're twenty and oh is three better?
Speaker 1 (19:14):
You know what? It reminds me of but it reminds
me of the undefeated streak as a rookie in WCW
by Bill Goldberg.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
Oh yeah, that's right. I remember that. The streak was
like it got it to like one hundred and seventy
nine and oh, Bill Goldberg was like the most undefeated
wrestler in the history of the business.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
He was more undefeated than even other guys who were undefeated,
if that's possible.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Uh yeah. And and then like I would like if
I could like get to one hundred and seventy nine
and oh that that would be like, you know, unprecedented,
hashtag unprecedented to be able to beat Bill Goldberg streak.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
By the way, you know how many I just I
just searched on Twitter. You know how many people have
hashtagged unprecedented.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
How many?
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Anyway, let's pick the Steeler game.
Speaker 5 (20:04):
Uh So the Steelers, so that this is it is
a very interesting week, Okay, and you need to let
me talk here because like you know, I'm twenty and oher,
which is hashtag unprecedented and better than Bill Goldberger. All right,
But the the this week is like a lot about
(20:26):
motivation and and the lines are like you know, the
the book makers are trying to like your feed into that,
and it's kind of interesting the Steeler game. You would
think that after last week when Buffalo played at Cleveland
and were laying ten and a half points, Okay, you
would you would think the Steelers are not that much
(20:47):
worse than the Buffalo Bills, that they're only like laying
three against the dr Sanders. But they are, Okay that
they are, but the But but I think what this
this line is telling us is that and it's it's
gona be itching because on Saturday night, green Bay is
playing Baltimore. If green Bay beats Baltimore, this line might
(21:10):
actually go down because Pittsburgh is gonna have zero motivation.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
J J is not going to play because green Bay
is clinched.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Although Lamar might not play, Snoopuntley might playday it's a
war patrician.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
There's a there's a lot of variables and a lot
of things that what the what the line makers have
settled on is minus three as of today. Okay. But
I think that while you know, you'll just generally bet
bet against Tomlin as an underdog as a favorite, and
bet ben on him as an.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Under you because you hate the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
No, no, no, no. We took the Steelers last week
as an underdog.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
You hate the Steelers, nobody, you hate the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
Yes, I don't hate the Steelers. You hate the Steelers.
That's just what you're doing. What your dude is putting misinformation, disinformation,
mal information? Do you have mal informations?
Speaker 6 (22:05):
No?
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Just make the pick. Make make the pick.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
All right, We're gonna take Cleveland, I think because yes,
because for some reason, even after green Bay has clinched
and has no motivation, that the line is going up
against the Ravens game. And I think that's got to
do with the fact that Lamar is not playing. So
what we're gonna like try to meet in the middle
here and like like figure out what's going on. I'm
(22:33):
assuming that Baltimore is kind of giving up this year.
Make the badly makes the pick Cleveland plus three. We're
just gonna go back the old thing. Bet against the
Steelers in the favorite, bet on them.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Because you hate the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
Okay, it's gonna be it's gonna be bad weather. And
there's and there were the Steelers main receivers out of
the game, y know, what's your take on that.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
By the way, him getting suspended two games for for
uh smacking a fan?
Speaker 5 (23:06):
Well, I'm I'm sup completely supporting the fan, Okay, because
because DZ Metcalf. Uh, why is it DK decaitl.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
And zacharias Metcalf, DK, Dekaalin, d.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Kael and zachari Okay? But you okay, But but d
Z would be his initials first and middle initial the
decal and Zachariah d Z. His name is should like
he's he doesn't even know what his own name is.
He should be DZ Metcalf. Are reacurate about Does that
make sense?
Speaker 4 (23:38):
Yeah? I'm sorry, I asked, what what's your lock of
the week?
Speaker 5 (23:42):
Okay? Well I talked to you. Though I've researched this.
That fan did nothing wrong. I think I think d
Z Metcalf should be suspended, like for the rest of
the year, maybe even next year. You don't what attack
the fans? And I looked into this, all right? Did
you know that fans the fan that fan is the
grandson of the Philadelphia Flyers sign guy from back in
(24:05):
the Dead Day.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Did you know that the guy that held up signs
with the Spectrum when the Flyers were good.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
Yeah, he's he's actually the grandson of now the Philadelphia
Flyers sign guy.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Okay, what's your lock of the week?
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (24:18):
My locker?
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Okay, we're gonna some stinkers this week, but we had
some stinkers last week and it covered I you know
what I.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Hate about you being twenty and oh the last three
weeks you talk too much. Make the picks.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
The people want to hear my reasoning for the time.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
They just don't. Nobody's going to Nobody's called. Nobody's hashtag?
What were they called? What were they supposed to? Hashtag unprecedented?
Speaker 7 (24:42):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (24:43):
Hashtag unprecedented. No, it's not not what somebody's at least
one First, let's go with the New York Jets plus
thirteen points at home against New England.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Oh okay, tell me why in ten seconds or less?
Speaker 5 (25:03):
Because this lay in the year, it's hard to cover big,
big spreads New England. All they have to do is
with one of the next two games against the Jets
or Miami. They're coming off a huge yo yoga, the
emotional game last week they came.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
That's ten seconds. That's ten seconds. What's the daily what's
the daily double?
Speaker 7 (25:24):
Well, so let me just reiterate that my first the
daily double, I am and I'm gonna make it with
zero doubt.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Let's take the Raiders. What is the bet Parks app
say that where the Raiders line is coming back and forth? Yeah,
because this is this going back and forth minus one
plus one, like you know.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
The Raiders are plus a point and a half.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
Oh beautiful. Well, we're gonna take them. Neither team wants
to win, but you gotta get an interim coach. And
the Giants they stunk last week. Ever since Jackson Dark
got a concussion, he's been less effective. Gino Smifth came
back last week, they were competitive. I think Pete Carroll,
you know, Mark Davis doesn't like to lose, you know,
(26:16):
and then they're gonna get like one of the top
two picks. They're gonna get nobody likes. But but but,
but this has been a disaster for Pete Carroll, and
I think they're gonna ashion Gente got rolling last week.
I know Bowers is out, but their backup tight end
is pretty good. And the Giant how are the Giants
at ATQW and thirteen laying points on the road of
(26:39):
the West coast at at the Raiders makes no sense whatsoever.
Just take the Raiders, Pete Carroll versus an interim coach.
Uh yeah, let's let's go with it. We're taking up
three three terrible scenes this week, Cleveland, the Jets, and
the Raiders. What do you think about that? It's actually gunprecedented.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
It's not unprecedented. I don't give a ass about none
of that as long as you're I don't.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
Think, no, no, some person in this show hashtag of
the president of this show, because I don't think I've
ever taken the three worst teams in the league in
the same week.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Nobody's nobody's calling in, nobody cares.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
Well, that's because it's the Friday after Christmas and everybody's
on vacation.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
You're twenty you know if people cared dead making a
point to list and they just think you suck.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
I'm might be twenty five and oh after this week,
what do you mean by that? That's that's I'm a person,
Bill Goldberg.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
I said, I said, no more of that. Okay, stop that, Okay, Okay,
Now it's time for the Super Collider. I'm gonna take
the Jets game. The Super Collider really why is.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
That you've always you've always picked the Steelers as a
super collider.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
That that's not that's not true.
Speaker 7 (27:53):
I do I do that.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Sometimes you hate the Steelers, but but no, I like
that Jets pick.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
I think that makes a lot of sense. I think
New England. I think to win. But I come out
a little flat.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Okay, Wait can I can I switch the Raiders? No?
Speaker 4 (28:10):
No, no, no switch.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
I want to make the Jets pick the Daily Double.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
No, we're not.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
I mean, wait, why not? I have zero doubt because
we're not.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Here's the pick Steelers minus three excuse me, Cleveland plus
three the lock of the week, and the super collider
is New England plus is the Jets plus thirteen against
New England.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
The Daily Double is Vegas plus. That's just the way
it is. You can't you You've had a couple of
good weeks. That doesn't give you the.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Right to make the segment unlistenable. That's worse than ever.
This is worse than ever. I don't care what your
record is. This is worse than ever.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
It's not worse than ever. I'm twenty to o hashtag
unprecedented and like you're trying to minimize this. This this
hashtag unprecedented. Uh a deal that I've I've delivered to
your your fan base that are betting with me have
to be rich right now. And like I bought extra
presence and have stocking stuff with presents for chriss you know.
(29:15):
I mean, honestly, let's let's call a status bade.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
What does that means?
Speaker 5 (29:21):
Called status state? That's that's an old saying from back
in the day. Is back in the day.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Isn't that racist?
Speaker 5 (29:26):
So no, you call a status bade, that's a that's
like a card game of the poker analogies.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
I'm gonna have to talk to hr.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
I already did they said, It's okay.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
That's mister Friday afternoon. Now it's time to ask Mark
anything eight three three four one two w xd x.
That's a three three four one two w xd x.
Or you can leave a talk back via the microphone
icon at the iHeartMedia app one O five nine.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
I'm asked Mark anything.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Brought to us by People's Natural Gas, People's Hyphengas dot com.
Get your calls in a three three four one two wsdx.
Just to go over that Steeler injury report one more time,
Ramsey and Siamalu both questionable, Austin eckles Watt and Pierre
all out, so that Steeler defensive backfield could be ravaged.
(30:18):
You know, one shot me if if, if the Bronze
pulled the upset. I don't think they will. But the
Steelers have had trouble at Cleveland, and that's no matter
how bad the Bronze had been. We remember the snow
game not too long ago. Let's go to Ken Ken
ask Mark anything, Well, it was from Madden.
Speaker 8 (30:38):
We usually talk hockey, but with regard to the two
games suspension for Metcalf, I didn't think he was gonna
win the appeal. My hunter is the commissioner sending message
to all the players. You can't go into the stands
and attack of fan.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
This is out of control here.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
It amazes me that that message would have to be sent.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
But I think by allowing him to get off with
minimal punishment like a finer one game would have been
setting a bad example for sure.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
Yeah, I can laugh now at it because it was
so long ago that. Oh shoot, Paul Horning and Alex
Karris lost a year of their careers by making friendly
wagers on our own teams to win yeah, and bought
with the mob or gambling.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
So much of that ties into this at all. But
but yeah, the Metcalf thing, I think Metcalf's totally had falled.
I think he's a boob. I think the blue haired
guy in Detroit, I mean, he's no prize. But I
just don't think he did anything wrong. Thank you for
the call. Leaves the line open at eight three three
four one two WSDX. Let's go to a talkback.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Mark and your criticisms of coach T. Have you ever
taken into account the coach hasn't had a good quarterback
in like eight years.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Yeah, and who's responsible for that? It's coach T. Coach
T who istant undrafting Kenny Pickett. It's coach T who
lucked out by inheriting Ben Roethlisberger. It's coach T who
hasn't been able to draft or develop a quarterback since
been retired. It's coach TO who didn't anticipate Ben retiring
(32:15):
and draft a quarterback then. Although we did draft Rudolph.
Ben hated that. And I don't feel like coach T
has ever given Rudolph a fair chance. So if you
think that coach T is a victim, because the Steelers
don't have a proper quarterback for a number of years. Now,
well he's the man responsible for them not having a
(32:35):
proper quarterback.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
Let's go another talkback.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Hey Mark, this is Bruce from King View. When will
we know who we play in the wild Card game?
Speaker 1 (32:49):
I think they they're went once it tonight at seven o'clock.
I mean, what kind of question is that you'll know
next Sunday night, after the last game's played. That's when
you'll know, maybe before certain mathematical things add up, like
Sunday afternoon. But how on earth could it be any sooner?
(33:12):
A three, three four one two WSDX the number to call.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Today's show.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Feels exhausting for some reason, maybe because I'm the only
one who sees Decaitlin Zacharis metcalf is totally at fault
for what's happened. And I think the guy with the
blue hair in Detroit might be a goof but did
absolutely nothing wrong.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Let's go to Marty. Marty real quick, hey.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
Month, good day.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
I said, good day, Hey monk.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
Do you what side of the football is gonna win
the Super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (33:47):
First of all, and then what team?
Speaker 1 (33:49):
What do you mean, what side of the football. You
mean which conference? Yeah, I think the NFC has more
better teams, don't you?
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Absolutely yeah, personally are But as.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Far as picking the team, I mean, I you can't
do that now. Injuries, a lot can happen between now
and then. I don't trust Denver is the top seed
in the AFC at all? Uh in the NFC, I
don't know. I kind of feel like Sam Darnold after
being cast aside by Minnesota, now leading Seattle to a
real good record, and they got a good d Maybe
(34:25):
maybe they're the proverbial team of destiny. Maybe it'll be
Steelers against Seattle, a rematch of that O six Super
Bowl and two proverbial teams of destiny.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
Thank you for the call.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
You can still get calls in now at A three
three four one two WSDX, it's the Mark Maddon Show.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Don't forget.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
You can watch the game with me at the school
host Tavern and Clarage. On Sunday at one pm, It's
The Mark Mannon Show one oh five to nine
