Speaker 1 (00:03):
The Steelers hosting excuse me visiting Baltimore Sunday. Both team
six and six tie to top the AFC North, joining
me now to discuss You hear him on the Steelers
Radio network with the postgame show. He has a great
podcast with Trey Essex. Always a pleasure to welcome to
the program. Charlie Batch, Charlie up. How does this game
weigh for each team? Is it do or diet? Seems
(00:25):
like with the Steelers it goes beyond math and standings
like it's a slight bit more important for them.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, this is a bigger game for sure for the
Steelers because you look at it right now, they're already
a have game behind. But ultimately you can now head
to head you'll lose that tab breaker. So for the
Steelers to their schedule is a little bit tougher in
Baltimore as you head down a stretch, So they have
to figure out a way to go on the road
and beat Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Here this weekend we talk a lot about what the
Steelers do wrong, but what are they doing right right now?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Charlie?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
What can they hang their hat on and what should
they lean on at Baltimore?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I think the only thing that they can really lean
on is the fact that they create turnovers and they
score points off of those turnovers. But outside of that,
I can't sit up here and tell you that, you know,
they do all of these other things right because they
don't do it consistently. And that's the challenge that you
have with this team, and it's been an issue all year.
That's why you see statistically with both sides of the
ball at the at the almost the bottom of the
(01:23):
league as it comes to rankings, but yet turnover wise,
you know, they feel pretty good that way. But that's
the kind of the formula of their success this whole season.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I totally agree.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
And one of the byproducts of what we're talking about
the Steelers failure to do much right is it comes
down a lot that can they stop what.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
The other team prefers to do it?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
In this case, it's can the Steelers contain Derrick Henry
in Baltimore's running game, because that's not exactly been a
Steelers strength this.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Year, not at all. And you know, the image that
at least I have in my mind along with other
Steelers Nation, is the fact that that playoff game last
year when he rushed for two hundred ninety nine yards,
and he answered that the Steelers head was to draft
Derek Harmon in the first round. He missed time earlier
in the season, played well as the year went on,
but here he is now not available at this particular
(02:09):
jump sure of the season. So when you now go
into Baltimore knowing that they're going to run the football,
they're going to turn around and hand that ball off
to Derrick Henry, how can you stop that? Because last
week you wasn't able to stop it at home, and
there's not many pieces. You're losing pieces of that defense
every single week. But now can somebody get excited about
what they're going to do potentially in Baltimore? I promise
(02:31):
you this. They're going to line up in that same
formation of Buffalo ran and they're going to run the
exact same play. When I was here, we used to
call it twenty two double, and they're going to now
run that particular play and force a corner to come
up and make the tackle. That's going to be something
that they have to prove that they can stop, because
if not, they're going to continue to see it until
Steelers can stop it.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Well, they didn't stop it against Buffalo and they haven't
stuck Derrick Henry the past couple of meetings.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
What can they do to adjust to stop that play?
What would you do?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
The only thing that you really can do is commit
one more person to the box and if that's the case,
then now you have one on one on the outside,
and essentially it's a lot easier for a quarterback to
throw knowing that you don't have to guess what the
coverage is. It's going to be man and man on
the outside, and that advantage typically goes to the offense,
and that's going to be something that really we're going
to see what that formula looks like. All I know
(03:19):
is they better not line up in that two defensive
lineman front with four linebackers because that has been a
disaster for a run defense for the Steelers over the
past couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Is lamar what he was or maybe he's still hurt.
That's kind of what I suspect. He's really hesitant to
use his legs right now, isn't he.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah, it looks to me just watching him like something
is off. I know he's not practicing throughout the course
of the week, and he's done so over the last
few weeks very similar to the approach that he has
this week. So to me, that tells me, Okay, you're
battling more than just the hamstring injury. Is there a
foot injury attached it out as well that you're now nursing.
We don't know, but either way, you're going to play
him to the point of forcing him to make him run,
(03:59):
just to see if able to do that, and then
from here you have to figure out a way to
corroule him inside the pocket and make him a pure passer.
But if you don't have that threat of the running
game for Lamar Jackson, I don't know how much of
a threat that he's going to have in that running game,
because you can stop the running back, but the running
the quarterback is the one that hurts you.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
H Pittsburgh's defense has obviously been disappointing.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
We talk about that every week. What about Baltimore's defense.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
To Statistically, Baltimore's defense isn't much better?
Speaker 3 (04:27):
What's gone wrong with them? And who's gone bad?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, it doesn't look idea as aggressive this year as
they want in the past. Are not getting out of
the quarterback, and I think that's something that has always
been a formula for Baltimore, and that's always allowed them
to hold on the backside and get away with certain
PI penalties because the ball was coming out so fast.
Right now you're not seeing it and the teams are
taking advantage of that through the air. But now what's
(04:52):
but again, how can the Steelers now adjust to that?
Because they haven't been great in the passing game? So
you know, to me, if I'm sitting there with essentially
sitting here at five hundred, if I'm Martha Smith, I'm saying,
you want to know what I'm putting the ball in
Aaron Rodgers' hand. Let me attempt to maybe put three
or four receivers out there to now allow him to
manage the line of scrimmage and get this team in
(05:13):
the right play, because that's going to be the formula
to beat this team because we have not seen the
lack of big plays. What better way for you to
start it this week?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Charlie, I agree one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
And I think the Steelers are limited on our offense,
not because of what they can't do, but I think
they're limited by what they choose.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
To not do.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, and that's it, and right now you know, you
look at it, they're getting the ball out of the hands,
and you know they choose not to throw the ball
downfield because they believe in the belief of getting your
playmakers the ball in their hands in space, allowing them
to run after the catch. Well, that that defensives caught
up to that particular formula. So you're not doing that correctly.
They're going to have to pop a big play and
hit one deep early in the game to soften up
(05:53):
that Baltimore defense. And if you can do so, now
they fall back a little bit, then maybe that increases
and it opens up those running lanes. If you do that,
then maybe that helps you. But you have to hit
that play early.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
We're talking to Charlie match here on the Mark Madden Show. Charlie,
it's tough to tell from afar, But where would you
guess Aaron Rodgers is a mentally he looks like a
pow half the time.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
When I looked at him, you know, I look at
him prior to the injury. Prior to the injury, looked
like he was standing in the pocket willing to take
that shot, you know, to try to create the big play.
But once he had that injury. He's now trying to
get the ball out of his hands and it looks
like he's protecting the hand more than anything, and Arthur
Smith is making sure, Hey, we're gonna now throw the
fall short to get the ball out of his hands.
(06:38):
The defense can't, you know, attack him. But then when
you have a play like you did on that first
pass play of the second half against Buffalo, where he
takes the shot, he lands on it, he misses a
couple plays, how does that linging injury affect what happens
this week? So you know already Baltimore is going to
try to figure out a way even if they get
close enough to him at least just knocking down to
(07:00):
make him now have to embrace on that fall so
he now can think about that injury versus just going
out there playing. So it's up to that offensive line
right now. No quarterback ever wants to get hurt Mark
that's for sure, or get hit, but ultimately you want
to make sure that you're protecting that guy so you
can attend to throw up ball down the field.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Charlie, We've talked about this repeatedly and I want to
do it again. I'm dumbfounded. By the lack of use
for fire Moove. To me, nothing they do instead justifies
that it.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Doesn't at all. And you know we spoke earlier in
the season, and you know week two when they play
Seattle and he dropped that deep corner route when Aaron
Rodgers rolled out to his right and I said, wow,
we're not seeing him. Initial thought was maybe he got
in the doghouse then, and then we saw him get
the big play against Cincinnati, he had it win over
one hundred yards, and we're thinking that we're going to
now see him more and more in its offense, and
(07:51):
that has not happened. I don't know who does not
like Pat Fryer Moose. All I know is is not
management because they paid him. So what other coaches not
is in there that is not vouching for that guy
when they're sitting there doing game plan to say we
need to get fire Mouth on the field. Something's going on.
Because we've been talking about it now for ten weeks
and because we continuously see it. That's the mist's question
(08:14):
that everybody wants to know. Why isn't that Firemuth's playing.
He's saying all the right things, but there's something else.
Going on internally that we don't know about.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
If I'm Baltimore, I'm obviously going to run the ball.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
We talked about that, but I'd be tempted to pass too,
because look at the change over the Steelers have had
in their secondary. Now we find out today the Dugger's injured.
It looks like Chuck Clark's going to start. That secondary
is supposed to be a strength, Charlie. It's never come
close to turning out, has it.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
No, it hasn't. And the reason why Dougger is on
this roster is because Chuck Clark couldn't perform. And now
all of a sudden, you know, you got to turn
around and say, hey, we didn't mean what we did
at the beginning of November by trading for a guy
we always believed in.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
You.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Let's now you have to go in and help the
team perform, and now put your ego to the side.
He hopefully he steps in and is able to play.
But again, you don't have your corners right now. You
have obviously the others out with the hand. You have
Joey Porter dealing with something with his arm. But again,
what does that look like from a cover standpoint? We're
going to see it probably a lot of Brandon Echols.
We're going to see probably a Sante Samuels as well
(09:14):
this week. So again, that secondary is a work in progress.
The only way that you can compliment that that back
end is getting after the quarterback and forcing those quicker
passes out of Lamar Jackson's hands.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Uh oh, wins Charlie. This is tough one to be
optimistic about.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
It really is. Do I think that the Baltimore is
six and a half point favorites?
Speaker 4 (09:35):
No?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I mean on paper, yes you can say that, but
I don't think it only because it is the rivalry.
The only thing that I'm hoping that happened this week
is because you do have a lot of new players
who are on this roster, not familiar as a relation
to player wise in this rivalry, but they've seen it
over the years. You hope that that encourages them, gets
them excited. Because the one thing that Tomlin always would
do is say, hey, guys, you know these players. This
(09:58):
is how they made a name for you, because you're
a truly a Steeler until you make a play in
this rivalry series. So who is going to be that
player at that particular point all week, the players have
defended Tomlin as it relates to why he needs to
stay because the message is still there and they believe
in that message. Now they have to prove the player
wise that they actually can go out there and deliver
(10:19):
and soften a lot of the noise that we've been
hearing this week as it related to the fire, Tom
and Chance.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I could not have put it better and.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
It frustrates me though to think that my best bet
for the Steelers winning this game is Baltimore losing it,
if that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, and we've seen Baltimore turn the ball over and
when they do, they lose. So again, we already noticed
Steelers formula. So if they can figure out a way
to now get him to make those mistakes, especially if
he becomes one dimensional one have to read coverages. Can
you confuse him enough to make him create those errors.
That was the formula that was usual when we played
Joe Flacco when he was in Baltimore, which you eventually
(10:57):
would make a mistake. You're now hoping that Lamar Jackson
falls in that category and if you can get one
or two turnovers and turnovers over in the points, maybe
that is the difference as they head into Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
You know, it's funny. I just want to mention Derek
Henry one more time.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
He reminds me of the Bust a little bit because
he's getting older and certain things about him are very
slightly diminishing, but he's still got that power. I can't
believe a guy can run like that and dishot and
absorb that kind of punishment as long as guys like
that do.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Yeah, he is a large human being, that's for sure.
And trying to tackle reminds me of Brandon Jacobs. You
know that was with the Giants years ago, that he
would bring him in the game and it was very
tough for him to bring down. But Dereck Henry is
on another level and this guy continues to play. That's
why he got the contract extension last year because they
believe in what he's doing. The only thing that you
can possibly hope that happens is the fact that maybe
(11:52):
the familiarity with Arthur Smith down in Tennessee can say, hey,
here's some of the things that he doesn't do well.
Maybe getting him running laterally versus vertically, you know, straight downfield,
that maybe you could take advantage that way. So you're
hoping that any little tip can help in this particular manner.
But to your point, Mark Derek Henry still has.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
It well in that vein.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Would you rather see the Steelers defense be more aggressive
and fail in the attempt than be passive, which they
sometimes are, especially you know as the game gets older.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Yeah, you know, before we used to you know, talk
about that bend, that break mentality and defense would defensively,
they would hold them to a field goal. Right now,
that's going to happen, and defense offenses are scoring on
this defense. So I would love for them to be
a little bit more aggressive, make Lamar, you know, get
into his hot reads because the blitz is coming, and
make them overthinking and maybe just create maybe off target
(12:42):
just a little bit and maybe create a punt situation.
If that happens, okay, great, But I just don't want
to see them sit back and now play that bend
that break mentality and then get crushed between from twenty
to twenty. I just don't want to see that. Give
me a little bit more aggressiveness.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Charlie is always great insight, great work on the PLAT podcast,
in on the post game show, and we'll.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Talk again next week.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Damn it?
Speaker 1 (13:43):
The exit one oh five nine, Time not for calls
on the fifteens. Still ain't got a sponsor, but we
do have calls. Oh wait, I guess technically we do
have a sponsor for this segment. More than technically. We
love bet Parks on La Casino in sportsbook. We'll talk
about that in the moment. What's good Harry and Westview?
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Harry?
Speaker 5 (14:07):
How come you know? Mark? Hey, how come no one
ever talks about how bad of father's Andrew Reid and
Tony Dungee were in the Major.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
I'm not sure we want to do that. Now, you
got anything else?
Speaker 5 (14:21):
No, I'm just I'm not interested.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Thank you for the call, Harry.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Andy Reid had problem with this kid was an addict,
and Tony Dungee turned his back on his son because
he was gay. And Dungee's a Bible thumping hypocrite. But
I don't see the relevance of talking about that.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Just now, let's good to Mike. Mike, you're on with double.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
M Hey Mark, big fan, big fan?
Speaker 2 (14:42):
What up?
Speaker 6 (14:44):
I got a comment and then question. My comment is
that Cam Haywards. I think one and eight in the playoffs.
I think it's the worst record ever for a guy
with that man that's correct playoff game. And then my
which is hilarious, but my TJ.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Wats never won a playoff game, and mark my words, Mike,
Tomlin will never win another playoff game.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Ever.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
I agree, And my question for you is, would you
rather the Steelers go nine and eight and you know,
preserve Tomlin's record, but then get their door blown off
in the first round of the playoffs or would you
rather see them go eight to nine and have the
streak broken.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
I think the best thing that could happen for the
Steelers as of right now would be to lose out
and finish six and eleven and have their problems made
crystal clear and get.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
A better draft pick. I agree that's.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
The best thing that could happen to the Steelers. Nobody
out there wants to hear that, but the Steelers need
so desperately to have a four and thirteen year, five
and twelve, six and eleven, and not just to get
the good draft pick, although this year would be a
good year to do that, what with the supposed influx
of good quarterbacks into this year's draft.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
But this needs to be exposed.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
It gets covered up at nine in eight, ten and
seven in the playoffs, never win a playoff game, but
it gets covered up by performing at you know, a
mediocre level. And the Steelers just I can't say they're
not mediocre because their record indicates that.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
But they're not making progress either.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Like I said earlier in the show, and we talked
about the great Penguins win, which is what I'd rather
be talking about now that that very exciting four to
three win at Tampa Bay last night, Actually not at
Tampa Bay. It was at Tampa or was it Saint Pete.
But it's not in the Bay, that's not frozen. But uh,
(16:35):
but the Penguins are are developing. The Steelers are dead
and there's no way to see it otherwise. Let's go
to Ron Ron.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
You're on with Mark.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Mark?
Speaker 3 (16:48):
What I mean? What I may?
Speaker 7 (16:51):
I just wanted to say. I'm not sure if you've
touched on it earlier, but just looking at the stat sheet,
this is a very different year for Ah, for Sid
and I was on pace for fifty goals and you know,
a little bit less than Austists. But what do you
think is driving that?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Well?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Sids always tempered his game to what the Penguins need
him to do. He's had two fifty goal seasons, He's
won two Rocket Rashard Trophies for most goals in the league.
And I think he senses that he needs goals and
there aren't especially with raquelap Aren't the wingers there to
make plays for it that he normally has. So he's
letting others make place for him, and he's making a
(17:27):
few more plays for himself.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
And I say, God, bless. I mean, what a.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Hockey player that he can just look at what's needed
and go do it?
Speaker 4 (17:37):
Fair enough?
Speaker 7 (17:38):
I agree, Let's go Penns.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
Bell's got to be cloudy tonight, dropping down to an
overnight low of twenty six cloudy skys. Ben State apparently
going to hire Matt Campbell to coach. He's the head
coach at Iowa State. Pat Craft the ad there there's
a leaked phone conversation of him where he says some
things he'll regret, like called Michigan losers and cheaters. And
(19:46):
then we got George Pickens, who played a terrible game
last night, dogged a couple plays, got criticized on TV
by former d B Richard Sherman, and then uh Pickens
posted an unhinged rant on Instagram just burying him Richard
Sherman with all form of obscenity, and the nicest thing
he called him was a leech weirdo.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
There he is, there's George.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I knew he'd show up joining me now to talk
about this week's football picks. I wouldn't call him a
leech weirdo per se, but he went one in five
last week, so he sucks.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
He's mister Friday Afternoon.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
Well, no, no, no, no, we're gonna look this is so
last week was an egregious error in your partners a
breach of contract.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
That's just okay.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
So I made I made the Steelers game the Daily
Double according to the contract you weren't allowed to make
make that game. Also the Super Collider. Absolutely, I am
no enough of zero doubt.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Okay that uh okay, first off, stop stop with all
the sound effects references. Okay, Sack, I think whatever I want.
So you're mad that last week's Steeler game because it
was both the and uh it was worth four points.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Correct, You're in.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
The Daily Double and the Super bler.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yeah, I said, and it was worth four points? Correct?
Speaker 5 (21:10):
Correct?
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Well guess what this week, it's worth five. I'm just
doing it randomly. I can do whatever I want. The
Steeler game is now worth five points randomly. Uh and
and and you nothing you can do about it. Nothing
you can do about it if you do what you're told,
or you'll be in breach of contract. And rest assured
your contract is iron clad. It's worth five points right now?
(21:31):
Do you want to try for six?
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Well, let's take the Steelers plus six.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Well that was a good segue.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
I give you that, right, Let's take the Steelers plus six.
This is this is pretty pretty simple.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Both Steelers.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
No, I don't no, I don't see that's a that's
a total fabrication on your put.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
You clearly hate the Steelers. You pick against them every week.
Why are you picking them this week?
Speaker 5 (21:58):
I picked them last week and I'm taking them this week.
How are you saying you just made you just spread
misinformation on this platform by saying that I pick against
them every week.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
All I know is all I know is you hate
the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (22:11):
Now, all I know is that is a false narrative.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Okay, so you say, take the Steelers plus six at Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Can you care to explain why?
Speaker 5 (22:20):
Well, just both teams. The Steelers are usually like this
average this late in the season, but they always play
close games, like within three points of each other. And
this year Baltimore is even worse than they have been
in the past. For some reason, they're favorited not by
three points and favored by six points. That doesn't make
any sense to me. So this will be a typical
(22:41):
probably like twenty just three twenty Baltimore win.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Okay, Tom the producer, we need to have you find
a random sound effect right now to use for that
game because it is the five pointer.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
We need to sound effect for the five pointer.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
That game is this week's five pointer Steelers plus six
against Baltimore or okay, what do you have for the
pick of the week.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
The lock?
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Whatever?
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Yeah, all right, let's go with uh. Let's go with
the uh. Jacksonville plus one and a half at home.
They I don't know, how has it been since since
Indianapolis has won at Jacksonville. Hey lose every year there,
every single year. I think it's like eight out of
nine years or eight years in a row. Some ridiculous things.
This is one of those automatic plays. Just wait for
(23:26):
Indianapolis to go to Jacksonville. Bet on Jacksonville and any
cash every year. So let's just say jacksonpe was one
and a half.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
So the picks now Jacksonville plus a point and a
half correct, right.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
And plus two. The Colts quarterbacks has a fractured leg.
That's not good for for that team. Out argue, Yeah,
you got a fractured city or something like that. No,
he's playing with a fracture in his leg as a
slight fresh fracture.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Do we have for the five pointer? Okay, let's okay.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
So so far the picks are Jacksonville plus one and
a half and the Steelers plus six.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
That game is the five pointers.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
Stupid idiots.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Okay, that's good.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
All right.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
Now it's time doubles.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
And I'm gonna be making this stick with zero doubt. Okay,
this is very very easy. We're just gonna go to
the yearly traditions. Uh, the Packers always kill the Bears.
The Bears can't beat the Packers. Take the Packers minus
the six and a half against the Bears. It's literally
that easy this week, zero doubt.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Okay, first off, I think that's a terrible pick.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Second off, you always say there's zero doubt, but you
went one in five last week.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
You're now thirty two and thirty seven on the season.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
No, but once we go, once the lawyers get involved,
that last week's records that have changed to two and
three because we're gonna transfer the daily double that's that
could have got that that's gonna go back to the
game that I won, and I'll be rewarded two points
for that one, so my pix will just be two
and three. There, Okay, that's.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Just not true. Okay.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Plus ways, as you've already found out, I have the
power to randomly declare a game a five pointer, right,
a five pointer, and that's Steelers plus six.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
So there you go.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
I don't like that sound to say, to be honest.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
With you, well we did in a hurry. We'll have
a different one next week.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
House.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
That is your producer going to be So are you
are you making that? Are you making that statement with
zero down?
Speaker 3 (25:37):
No? I am not.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Now, okay, so it's time for me to pick the
super collider. I will pick as the super collider Chicago
Chicago minus six and a half Chicago. Excuse me? You
picked Green Bay minus six and a half right, correct,
that's a sure loss. So I'm picking that as the
super collider.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
Okay, what do you want to Why would you want
to pick the Why do you want to choose by
games to lose? That doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
By the way, you owe me a thousand dollars for
what because we have a we have a yearly bet
in our contract when applicable for the Mark Madden Show Derby,
which is Liverpool plus Sunderland, and I had Liverpool plus
a half a goal.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
You didn't that. There's absolutely none of no circumstance that dude,
you would have been laying like twelve hundred dollars doing
one hundred dollars for that.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
No, this is You're cheap. You would never do that.
This is in the contract.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
It's not in the contract.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
It is in the contract. It is it is iron
was ridden.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
The contract was ridden before Sunderland came up.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Division.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
It couldn't have been in a contract Section three paragraph B.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
In the event of promotion to the Premier League, the
the Mark Madden Show Derby will be contested via a
bet between mister Friday Afternoon and Mark Madden, and he
will get Liverpool plus half a goal.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
It says it right here.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
That's completely a fabrication. You're a part post it on
the internet.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
I will, I will.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
You think you're a post post.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Okay, you know what I'm making that Steeler game a
six pointer?
Speaker 5 (27:15):
Well you can't because you're so sound effect prepared.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
That's true. It's only a five pointer, you stupid idiots.
There you go, There you go, you stupid idiot. Would
you like to talk to your fans?
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Okay, if you'd like to talk to mister Friday Afternoon
down now eight three three four one two w xdx.
Were you pleased with the result of the Mark Man Show, Darby?
Speaker 5 (27:38):
Yeah, we we We got a.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Point that's certainly detailed analysis. Can you name even one
play on Sunderland?
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Not off hand but understood. They're all just great kids.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Yeah, okay, Well we have a call. Would you like
to did he hang up?
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Why do you hang up?
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Okay, we have a call. Would you like to talk
to your fans?
Speaker 5 (28:04):
Absolutely, they want to talk to me. I'll talk to them.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Let's go to Mike, Mike, your own mister Friday Afternoon.
Speaker 7 (28:10):
Mister Friday Afternoon, is it true that your nose is
so big they're going to be using it as a
soccer ball for the World Cup.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
It's a good question.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
So that's says body shaming. That's just said that guy
should be suspended.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
To be honest, suspend them from what.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
He's a caller, but he's body shaming.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
What do I suspend him from? Mister Friday aftern you
tell me what suspend them from? I'll suspend them.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Get your calls.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
You got a big nose.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
Everybody knows that's you should be suspended. I want to
talk to HR. I'm talking to HR.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
I already did they said. It's okay. That's mister Friday Afternoon.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Uh, Let's go to Newman, Hello Newman.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Hello Jay. Earlier this week, the penn scored a goal
to go ahead four to one against the Flyers, but
then the Flyers pulled off a somewhat questionable goalie interference
challenge to keep the score three to one. And I
couldn't help, But wonder do you think the refs consider
that automatic delay of game penalty that follows a failed
(30:35):
challenge when they make the final decision like in that case.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
I think the reefs consider the score in situation when
they make almost any call, and I think that was
the case there. I don't think they wanted the Penguins
to go up four to one and then penalize the fly.
So I think if that had been like a one
to one game, maybe the call would have gone differently.
If it would have been a seven to one game,
maybe it would have gone differently. But with the game
(31:00):
still relatively close, I think that made it more likely
that the goal would not stand.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Yeah. I couldn't agree more and I absolutely can't stand
that well.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
I think you see that in every sport, though, don't you, Newman,
Where referees make calls based on the score.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
Yep. They claim they don't want to affect the game,
but in doing so, they affect the game.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Anytime you make the call for any reason other than
what the call is, you're affecting the game. When you
call everything properly, that doesn't affect the game, that's just
letting the game take its natural course.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Let's go to Polly Polly esk Mark anything.
Speaker 10 (31:38):
Hey, Mark, I was just reading about how in the
early days of guns n' roses that Slash kind of
screwed himself out of having Paul Stanley hook him up
with a guitar endorsement because he was talking a lot
of smack behind his back, and I was wondering what
the whole backstory of was of that.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
Wait, who was he talking to smack?
Speaker 10 (32:01):
Paul Stanley? Paul was supposed to hook him up with
the guitar endorsement, but then he was talking a lot
of crap, saying about the way how he dresses and
this and that. I guess he didn't like Kiss from
without the makeup. And then whenever Paul Stanley found out
about it, he just told him to go through himself.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
I hadn't heard that, but it doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I can't believe that the Slash and Paul Stanley would
have much in common. I think Slash is a far
superior guitar player, and needless to say, you know, their
looks are very different.
Speaker 10 (32:42):
Yeah, well, I know Slash's great.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Here there's a story here.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
The Slash tried to recruit Stanley tried to recruit Slash
to join Kiss in the early eighties but passed due
to his age, and then they got a verbal dispute
publicly later.
Speaker 10 (32:58):
Oh, okay, I guess that makes.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
I mean a lot of a lot of like Eddie
van Halen supposedly auditioned for for Kiss, Like there are
a lot of musicians potentially could have gone through Kiss.
Let's go to uh Antonio, Antonio, are you all with
Mark Hey?
Speaker 11 (33:15):
Mark Eric did confirmed on his Instagram earlier today that
he is not returning to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, and the
river Hounds themselves confirmed that they are not picking up
Aggy Williams' option. I just wanted to know your thought
and feelings on that.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
Well.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
I think Goggy Williams didn't do nearly what he was
paid to do. He was making like what one hundred
and seventy thousand and scored nine goals, So I think
they can replace him very readily. Eric Dick, from my understanding,
did he did he say where he was going to go?
Speaker 4 (33:42):
He did not know.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Yeah, because his family's from Indianapolis, and it had been
my understanding he was going to go sign with the
Indy eleven for next season, regardless of what happened in
the river Hins this year. But that's certainly a big
loss because he was the primary catalyst for them in
the playoff run. But in Triple A soccer, things change
(34:03):
all the time. Rosters, you know, get ripped asunder no
matter how the team does. It's about money, It's about
where you want to live. It's hard to keep a
team that wins together. It's hard to keep any team
together in Triple A soccer.
Speaker 11 (34:18):
Absolutely, I'm still hard working up.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
I'm glad they won once.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
That's how I always am with stuff like that. Yeah,
it says that right here. USL Champion postseason MVP Eric
Dick will not return to River Hunts in twenty twenty six.
That's at Pittsburgh Soccer. Now, let's see says on instagram.
Oh well, I mean, come on, it's minor league soccer.
(34:42):
You can get somebody else. Lay's the line open eight
three three four one two w xdx eight three three
four one two w xdx.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Uh, let's go to a talkback.
Speaker 6 (34:55):
Mark, what's more damning losing his step as a cornerback
or losing his step as a winger in soccer.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
That's a real good question.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
I would think losing a step is a winger in
soccer because you got to have that acceleration to get
past guys, or you really don't do anything at cornerback.
Can you get physical to make up for losing a step?
I don't know, but at least there's in theory something
else you can do. Then again, winging soccer, you could
always I don't know, switch to midfield something like that.
(35:32):
But that's a good question. Let's go to Bob, Bob
ask park anything. You're on the air, Bob, what do
you want?
Speaker 2 (35:46):
I wanted to know if the Penguins putting the three
prospects on the same line together like that, on the
third line is going to help or hurt their future.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
Well, I think it definitely helps them.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
I mean, as long as they're not being coached to
play like third liners, it doesn't really matter, you know,
what line they're on. You can limit their minutes certainly,
But I think them playing together, you know, and being
you know, like skilled and like minded players, I think
that's gonna benefit them a great deal. And I think
we were already seeing the fruits of that. I think
it's a move I would have made a while back.
Why you couldn't because McGroarty had been hurt until recently,
(36:18):
but that you know, I suggested this before they did it.
That's not why they did it, but but it's a
great idea. All right, thank you, thank you. Leaves the
line open eight three three four one two WSDX.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
It's going to Steve. Steve ask Mark anything.
Speaker 12 (36:36):
Yeah. Do you think the NFL kind of promotes the
fact that they don't want Toman to be fired?
Speaker 5 (36:46):
And why would the NFL?
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Why would the NFL not want Tom to be fired?
Speaker 12 (36:52):
I don't know. I just think there's a possibility today.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
So you think there's so you think there's a league
wide conspiracy to talk up Tom wins he doesn't get fired.
Speaker 12 (37:04):
I think that he hasn't shown had a good record
being that's.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Not what I asked you, Okay, I I would fire
on myself. But why do you think the NFL doesn't
want him fired?
Speaker 12 (37:15):
I just think that they'd like the stability of the Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Team and they like why would they do that? Why
would they do that?
Speaker 12 (37:22):
I don't know what the reason would be.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
What what does the league have to gain by it?
Speaker 12 (37:30):
I don't know. So you're getting you're.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
You're totally wrong. The league has no vested interest in
Mike Tomlin remaining coach. You know, he is the league's
preeminent black coach. But if he got fired, like we
keep getting told, he'd have a job somewhere else in
five minutes.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
So what's the difference where it is?
Speaker 12 (37:49):
There's no difference whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
So you're just way off base and not that bright.
But thank you for the call. Let's go to Chainsaw,
Chainsaw as mark anything.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
Yeah, why does the NHL just get rid of the
loser point and just give two points to the winner?
Like what insteadive?
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Well, well, they could go they could give two points
the winner and no points to loser. Or you could
go three points for winning regulation, two points for a
win in overtime or shootout, then a loser point there.
That way, each game would be worth the same three points.
But the reason is because they want some games to
(38:28):
be worth more than others, because it clogs the standings.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
I've said this before, Chainsaw.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
The NHL is the only sports league where the general
managers determine the method of play. The NFL, the owners
determine method of play, so they air on the side
of entertainment all the time. Air go all the rules
that favor the offense and get more points on the board.
In the NHL, though, the GMS want the standings to
be clogged and no one to drop way out of
(38:57):
the playoff race so gms don't lose their job, hence
the loser point blame blame, but in fact, thank you
for the call that would be it. I think they're
good enough to be a playoff team, but I think
you could say that about literally every team in the
Eastern Conference given how bad it is. Bad is translating
(39:18):
to balance. Next, going to talk to Tommy
