Speaker 1 (00:01):
Steelers at Detroit.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Joining me now a man who played for both teams
and played well, he is the great Charlie Batch. Charlie,
you played for the Lions, here for the Steelers, but
I'm pretty sure you're rooted for the Steelers when this
matchup takes place.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Correct, Oh, absolutely I do.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
And if you know this, you know, obviously my heart
is in Pittsburgh, but I started my career in Detroit,
and you know, and then selfishly, I'm like, man, I
hope that the Steelers continued their success against the Lions
because each year that it happens, or every time that happens,
I could turn around and say, hey, it's been so
long since the Lions had beaten the Steelers, because now
it's twenty six years and that was the last quarterback
for the Lions to beat the Steelers back in nineteen

(00:40):
ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
What is the Steelers' best bet to win this game
at Detroit, Charlie?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
What kind of game does it need to be?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
This is I mean, they're going to have to control
the line of scrimmage because those those backs by the Lions,
they are a great one two punch, and I know
they had success last week against the Dolphins, but prior
to that we've seen two hundred yards given up. Cannot
go into this game allowing Detroit to be able to
run the football because if they do, that opens up
the play action game and that's where you give up
those chunk plays.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yeah, I agree with that.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I just wonder if the Tomlin mentality will allow them.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
I mean, Tomlin likes the force rock fights.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
We know that, but I don't think Detroit will let
themselves get sucked into that in a home game indoors.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Do you, No, not at all, and they're going to
be aggressive, and that's Dan Campbell's mentality. He wants to
push the ball down the field. You know, he goes
forward on fourth down pretty much every time. So if
that's the case, there is no Hey getting excited because
you stop them on third down. You have to play
four down football against the Lions because Dan Campbell's mentality

(01:42):
is keep the foot on the pedal and he's going
to try to turn around and bury you early in
ball games.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
How good is that Detroit offense? Charlie Goff and Gibbs
and boy a lot of weapons, right.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
They are really good and they even better when they
play at home. Because that team is built on speed.
That's how they develop their team. They know they're playing
on turf, there is no weather conditions, and they are
looking to push the football down the field, so they
are extremely dangerous.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Do we underrate Golf?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
I sometimes find myself thinking he's top five. Sometimes he
has a stinker of a game. I think he's mostly consistent.
Though where do you put him in the hierarchy?

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:21):
I put him up there towards the top, and people
forget that this guy actually led the Rams to the
super Bowl, even though they lost in that football game.
But so he's you know, technically he's as super Bowl quarterback.
But I think ultimately he's trying to help change the
mentality of what's going on to Detroit.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
They believe in him.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
They made the trade, they actually extended him contract wise,
and they truly.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Believe in what he's capable of doing.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
And because we don't really see him often, this guy
is tall in stature, he has a great arm, and
he can put balls in tight, tight spots.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Now, with wat and her Big presumably both out, and
they add in Moon from Carolina's practice squad. He played
for the Steelers before. Who's going to step up on
that edge. Do you think you're enough to blitzmore to
get the golf?

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Yeah, you're gonna have to, And I think I think
it's two sides. I think yes, once you do, but
then also you may have to have that been that
break mentality like this defense has been doing keeping them
out of the end zone. I don't know what that
rotation looks like, but when you make a move for
Jeremiah Moon in the manner that they did, you pick
him off the practice squad. Now you have to activate

(03:25):
him for three games. So I'll let you know, somebody
within that rotation is not going to be available. And
that's why you brought Moon on here. Not a lot
to get excited about. We haven't seen his body of
work up until this point. But again, that's going to
have to be a position that they have to put
pressure on Jared Goff without technically bringing the blitz at times.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Well, I think an opportunity is there for Jack Sawyer,
the rookie. He's going to be matched up against Suwell
a lot though, and that's a tough nut to crack.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, it really is.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
And it's going to be interesting to see really how
they used him on special teams, because if you're playing
him on both, he's gonna wear down as the game
goes on, where sometimes your starters they don't necessarily play
special teams. So this is going to be a huge
opportunity for Jack Sawyer to prove hey, yes, this is
why we drafted you, but also taking that next step
to get this organization excited to say we have a

(04:15):
starter in waiting.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
So this is a huge opportunity for Sawyer.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Aiden Hutchinson, who was a handful, normally lines up on
the left side, so he'd be up against Botanu. But
the speculation is because Hutchison moves around that he'll line
up over Dylan Cook a lot.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
How do you combat that matchup?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
And I thought Dylan Cook, by the way, did very
well against Miami, but this is a horse of a
different color.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Oh you're right about that, Dylan Cook. He actually played
a fantastic game on Monday night. But now as Hutcherson
is moving around only and this is why it's critical
during the first fifteen plays to try to get those
substitution packages to can't see if you can get an
indication on when Hutchison is going to move from the
right to the left, and if he does stay consistent
on the left side, that's where you just need a

(05:01):
body presence.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
That's where you line up with Dow Dartnell Washington there.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
That's where you maybe get used to back as a
chip as he's now leaving out of the backfield. So
that's going to be very critical in the first fifteen
plays to see how he see if you can get
an indication of where he lines up, I.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Believe Rogers can pass on Detroit and score points on Detroit. Charlie,
what about you. I'm mostly worried about him being protected.
I mean, now Fraser spanged up, Dylan Cook's playing, I mean,
my god, what a war of attrition the NFL has become.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
And this is something that really you know with Zach Fraser,
I mean this is he's a staple of the middle
of that offensive line. So that's what we're going to
pay attention to that as we move closer to game time.
But I think where Aaron is at right now, over
the last couple of weeks, he got what he wanted.
And when I say that, he has his receivers that
he wants playing right now. That's why you're seeing it
a healthy scratched with Rouman Wilson, so obviously that wasn't there.

(05:53):
And of course Adam Thielen only here for a couple
of days, but yet started the last two games.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
So with that, Aaron Rodgers very familar with Detroit.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
He understands playing against the Lions, even though this is
a different offense that he's in. He's gonna want the
ball in his hands because this guy has been making
the proper checks at the line of scrimmage. He's going
to get you in the right place. I'm glad Arthur
Smith got out the way and allowing Aaron to do
what he does at the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Aim into that, Charlie. And here's how I've been describing Rogers.
I think he's mostly vanilla, but it's a very flavorful
brand of vanilla, like Briar's ice cream when you first
cracked the cart and open. He's not doing a ton
because he is forty two. But everything he does, especially
against Miami, was just perfect.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
It really was.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
And he had everything that the Dolphins was doing. He
countered everything else. But again, that's his experience and that's
what you want, and sometimes you do have to get.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
The ball in your playmaker's hand, allow him to run.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
And I say that even on that second fourth and
one opportunity to the left to Kenneth Gainwell, I saw
al flink coverage. He was able to get the ball
in space to Gainwell to pick up a big game
on that fourth down. He's gonna have to continue to
do that because if he continues to make those reads,
that helps with the time of possession. And we've been
harping on this all year, and on Monday night was

(07:06):
the first time that they truly were in control of
the time and possession, given that defensive rest and allowing
them to go make plays in that second half.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
They have to have that formula here this week.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
And boy, we saw that with the defense, didn't we.
With their burden lesson, I thought they played so much better.
And that's even without TJ.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Watt.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I think Cam Hayward's mostly been good all year, Charlie,
but I thought that was just an exceptional game by him.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
For example, Yeah, it was.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
I mean, this guy, he has been playing you know,
Stouth throughout the course of the season, and he had
a big game on Monday Night. Now what I get
excited about it looks like we're going to have Derek
Harmon the first round pick something. You know, when he played,
he plays, he plays good, but he's missed a lot
of time with injury.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
You hope that there's a fuel to the fire of
this game because he is going home. He is from Detroit.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
You know, he's gonna have a lot of family members
that are going to be in this game rooting for
the hometown team, are now playing against the hometown team.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
So this is going to be a big game for him.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
So I'm looking for that one two ta combo between
Cam and Dereck Harmon to show up in a big way.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
You know what I would say right before the game
to him, Charlie, I'd say, gee, I hope your family
doesn't see it suck.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Trust me, there are little tip is that you throw
out there throughout the course of the week, and that
is the caveat right there. Don't embarrass the family name
when you are now taking the field out there, and
hopefully that gets in going Charlie, here's.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Kind of an odd question, but I think it's interesting.
Are the Steelers trending upward in your mind? Or have
they just won a couple games in the row, because
those aren't necessarily the same thing.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
Are they?

Speaker 4 (08:36):
No, they're not. And I think they're trending in the
right direction, and mostly because of that offensive line up front.
They have been starting to play solid. But now when
you add the injuries there, you know, I know we
didn't you know, we talked about to tackle a lot
over the last couple of weeks. But is Zach Frazier
and you have Isaac say Malu, those two had been
the brains of that offensive line, and now with say

(08:58):
Malu banged up, what does that tricep look like?

Speaker 3 (09:01):
So you know, with a.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Peck and a tricep for an offensive lineman, that is
a tough pass. So it's going to be something to
monitor as we get close to the game time.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Charlie, here's what I've been saying all week. I think
the Steelers are trending upward, but slightly. Two wins is
two wins and that's good, but they're still eight and six.
I want them to win out. I see the remaining
three games is all winnable. You want a trend upward,
you want real momentum for the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
Do that.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
If they do that, I would really think they'd win
a playoff game, and.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
That's the trend that you want, and that gets us
excited about what.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
The potential could be in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
So if you start to get hot at the right time,
this is what you want to do in December. Start
stacking wins and convince other teams that are watching that
you are for real and you don't want to be
a Regon. They'd be reckoned in the playoffs. These are
things that you want other people to feel. So that's
why these three games are important, and obviously heading into
the playoffs, it looks like they're going to be that direction.

(09:59):
This is what's going to get everybody excited. So they
know that task at hand and I'm hoping they get
it done.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Who do you like in that Ravens New England game, Charlie,
because that has great bearing on understandings and on the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
I think the Ravens are going to figure out a
way to get it done. You know, I think, you know,
we know they're going to run the football, but I
think they're going to control that time of possession and
they're going to really give New England a little bit
of taste of their own medicine. By your controling that
time of possession Baltimore, I think they start to get
these sneaky wins that are here. I know they have
New England, they have Green Bay, and they're preparing for
that game at least staying within striking distance to make

(10:32):
sure that that January fourth game matters.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, I gotta be honest, Charlie. Part of me, I mean,
I'd like to see the Steelers wrap it up before
that Week eighteen game, but there'd be something really exciting
about Ravens at Pittsburgh with the division title up for grabs, wasn't.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
There, And that's what the NFL schedule makers want. Selfishly
for me, I don't want that because if they go
down to that game, we know either it's gonna be
Saturday night at eight o'clock or it's going to be
Sunday night at eight o'clock.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
That's going to be a timetime game.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
I just don't want that because that means I finished
on the post game radio at two thirty in the morning.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
So let's get their Steelers.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
To wrap this up prior to so that Sunday game
will be a one o'clock game on January fourth.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Charlie, from your lips to God's ears. Tom Offerman, my producer,
he works with you guys, and it's just that even
me that Sunday night game, I'm usually somewhere watching the game,
and you don't get home to win. My god, you're right,
you have put things in proper perspective. My friend, who
do you like in this game? I kind of like,
you know, what's funny? I feel like the Steelers are

(11:34):
gonna win a close one or maybe get killed. And
I feel bad saying that. I think they're more likely
to win a close one. But what do you think?

Speaker 4 (11:43):
Yeah, I think I think it's gonna be a hagh
scoring game. I think both of these teams are gonna
put up a lot of points. To me selfishly, I
think the Steelers have to put up at least thirty
three point thirty three, thirty four points to get stay
in this ball game here.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Are they capable of doing it? It's possible.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Why because they score thirty three points against it yet,
so we've seen them put up thirty points. Now they
just have to go up here and play winning football.
Don't beat themselves. We know the formula for this team.
They have to create turnovers, make Jeric goff uncomfortable, get
him off of this spot and making pay for it
by interception or a fumble, sack, strip, sack, fumble or
something like that in order for them to you know,

(12:19):
distance himself in this game. It is a winnable game,
that's for sure. But ultimately, when you look at this
game six and a half point underdog, that may be
the most disrespectful thing that these odd makers can do
for you, because that's almost equivalent to a twenty one
point spread in college. Hopefully these Steelers can motivate, get motivated,
and use that as fuel.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Charlie, am I wrong when I think I think we'll
know who's gonna win after one quarter? That the game
will go in a direction that either really favors Pittsburger
doesn't it does.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
It can be a twenty one to three first quarter,
or it can be a you know, ten to nine
ball game. Mean, the Steelers are in it, so they
just have to keep it close and they can't allow
it to get out of.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Control because that team is very explosive.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
So this is something to your point, first quarter, we'll
know exactly what direction we're going, Charlie.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Great stuff, Great stuff with the podcast with Trey. Great
stuff on the postgame show. We'll do it again next week.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Yeah, I appreciate it. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
That's the great Charlie Batch. Nobody better than him to
talk football. You can hear him on the Steelers Audio
Network for the post game show, him and Pursued.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
It's really good stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Okay, up next calls on the fifteens, Get your calls
in now, we've got the loud trade with the Pirates
to react to.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
The pen was being horrible, terrible last night in Ottawa.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
And of course Steelers and Lions, and I do think
it's a winnable game, and I do think we'll know
in the first fifteen minutes one o five.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Nine the X Ho ho ho. It's that Tommy Yeurigan,
isn't it?

Speaker 5 (13:44):
Yes, Mark Madden, Yeah, Park, welcome show.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Well if I won you overpitating Dusty Road, Youmican dream,
so be it baby.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
The exit one oh five nine, double im on the X.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Thanks to Charlie Batch, who is always awesome, right on
time for calls on the fifteens. Get a call in
eight three to three four one two WXDX.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Let's go to Greg. Greg. You're all with Mark?

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Hey, double am.

Speaker 7 (14:21):
I just going to add on to that Steelers comment
about the next three games, including the matchup against the Lines.
I think that the next three games are a must
win for the Pittsburgh Steelers, including Tomlin as he's normally
not good.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Well, no, it's not must win for Tom and he's
not gonna lose his job. I mean, what do you
mean by must win? If they make the playoffs. They
make the playoffs, But I'm talking about the show. They're
a serious contender. You got to win the next three
games and finish eleven and six. That's what series contenders do.
They improve and get hot at the right time. Now,
do I think it's gonna happen. No, Because old teams

(14:58):
and this is a very old team.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
They they don't get better as the season goes on.
They just get older.

Speaker 7 (15:06):
Oh, I one hundred percent agree. I was just more
less talking about if he was to ever lose any
moving forward a wild card game matchup, he is not
too good at all, and I think it would be
an end for the season. The Steelers obviously thank you.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
For the call.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
I think even if they win out, they are probably
gonna lose the wild card game.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
I just don't think they're that good.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
But if they if they win five in a row
to end, maybe everybody, including me, changes their opinion.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Uh thank you.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Recall, by the way, my projected hero for the Steelers
on Sunday, if they do win at Detroit is the
modern day warrior Jack Sawyer. He's gonna step up with
Watt and probably Herbie got There was a photo of
what at eight team Christmas function and people reacted like
it was a lung X ray.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Oh TJ looks okay, that's a good sign.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
It's amazing that the Steelers stab their highest paid player
in the lung and it collapsed, and who knows when
he's gonna play again, And the stooge media and you
Mark's out there, you're treating it like he twisted an
ankle at practice, like it's just one of those things
that happened, when the reality is it's insane. It's indicative

(16:17):
of an organization that I think is just not very good.
But Sora will save the day. His mind is not
for rent to any god or government. But right now
I want to talk about bet Parks Live. Sports betting

(17:43):
got a gambling problem called one eight hundred gambler up
next with the football picks. It's mister Friday Afternoon, when
five and oh this week he's doing great, one oh, five, nine, nine.

Speaker 8 (18:00):
What to me? Now?

Speaker 2 (18:00):
He's now over five hundred on the ear and convincently
so after going three and two last week, we walk
into the program.

Speaker 8 (18:07):
Whoa stop, time time out?

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Can I at least woke?

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Can I at least welcome me to the program?

Speaker 8 (18:13):
Is what you shut up?

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Here is our football prognosticator going three and two last week.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
Mister Friday Afternoon, Okay, you're spreading misinformation, disinformation. That's a
breaching contract. I was five and o last week. Okay,
the play the tapes, look at the records. Uh, you know,
here's your woe. What you try to do is sneer me.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Okay, let me, let me, let me, let me double check. Okay, okay,
right it says right here.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Four and one.

Speaker 8 (18:47):
No, it's five and oh undefeated because I haven't lost
the game in two weeks. And what you're trying to
do is you're trying to minimize this this uh, this
segment to try to defame me and make it seem
like that my record was not as it was okay,
and you're you're breaching your contract. So I'm not.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
I'm not breaching my contract for one thing.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
I We've studied the contract very carefully and everything is
weighed in mind in the company's favor, and it is
in fact iron clad.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
So stop with that.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
The people. The people know I went five and oh
last week. Okay, so let's you know, let's just go
forward with that. You're your your Maine mistake. Can you
miss your Maine mistake?

Speaker 6 (19:33):
No?

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Okay, what do you want for the Steeler game?

Speaker 8 (19:37):
We're gonna take the Steelers plus seven. They're not gonna win, okay,
because Detroit under a U game Campbell is like sixteen
to one after a loss through great great trends there.
But Avanon Rodgers is very familiar with that that are
that building. He's played well in Detroit. The Steelers, I

(19:59):
don't think, because they're like during the Driver's scene now
and Baltimore has a game against New England on Sunday night,
and the Steelers get Cleveland next week. So I think
the Steelers, I think they may be able to I
nip it in the bud. They're gonna bring effort, They're
gonna keep it close Detroit at a very leaky defense,

(20:20):
and Aaron Rodgers is playing pretty well. You know you
might have to like you crowing Aeron Rodgers. You are
very adamant and vocal. You're not like Rogers is a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
That's just not true. That's just not true. You're the
one who hates the Steelers. You hate the Steelers. You
pick against them all the time. Now you're trying to
get back to the audience good side. You are pushing
a scoundrel.

Speaker 8 (20:45):
No, no, no, you know what you are. You're deplorable
and in this, in this it's like did you.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
You I am not.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
I talked to hr they said it's okay, Okay, that's fine. Okay,
so the Steelers plus seven, what is your lock of
the week.

Speaker 8 (21:05):
We're gonna take the Raiders plus fourteen. Okay, there there
are charge I don't know why, but for some reason
they were terrible with Kenny Picken.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
He was, uh yeah, I'm pretty sure I know why.

Speaker 8 (21:20):
Okay, I thought he was, like, you know, I thought
he might have been the best quarterback in league coming
out of college. Hasn't maybe conspired against him, you know,
like he may not have.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
No Sanders is the conspiracy victim.

Speaker 8 (21:36):
Okay, who, you're absoutely right about that, but uh, Houston's
you know, they're out, their defense is tremendous to the
best team in the league. They're uh, their offense is
getting better. But you're you're laying fourteen points in a
very flat spot. And this this line is inflated because

(21:59):
the Raiders been the bad but Gino is coming back
as quarterback. He's cause you know, fourteen points is late
in the season when you got like the Chargers up
next and you're in the playoff one. But you're comfortable
and like, you can't on a game or lose position.
The game the matters next week is the game against

(22:20):
sin against the Chargers. Just take the fourteen here, there's like,
there's good trends on him. I'm getting this many points
late in the season. So let's let's just take the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
That's a bat, mister, this is expert analysis. I can
see why you went four and one last week. You're
really on top of your game.

Speaker 8 (22:37):
Ohs five and oh last week? Okay, and I went
ken and oh the week before. I'm on a fifteen
to oh run. That's no, it's just not impossible.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
I won ten and oh, how did you do that?

Speaker 8 (22:52):
Because you because we had the five pointer.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Okay, what now it's time to do the daily doubles.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
This is you know, I've been going back and forth
on two games and it's a I'm gonna want I'm
gonna go with Miam excuseing Cincinnati lane four at Miami.
Miami was actually in the playoff hint on the outskirts
of it, but they had a chance going into last week. Uh,
the Steelers buried them in the cold too. Is now

(23:30):
to give quarterback he's like the thirtieth rae quarterback in
the league, but they're going to quinn Ewers who who's
claimed the famous He like he like outplayed arch Manning
for the starting job of Texas. He's not good. I
think you know he saw that. You saw like late
in the game last week where McDaniel was like there
were they were in too. They've come back a little

(23:52):
bit in the game and they were within two scores
and there was no urgency at the end of the game,
like with two minutes left. They weren't playing hurry up offense.
Who's steering his pad and is freezing cold. Everybody's quitting
my team. This is gonna be a late they're going
to laying down. This game is gonna be a And
then Burrows got shut out last week and he's like

(24:14):
one of those highest paid players in the league, and
want to bet the courts in the league since there
isn't gonna be effort this week, you know, for no
reason other than they got shut out last week. But
Miami's terrible. It's gonna be good weather eighty degrees.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
What is your pick?

Speaker 5 (24:26):
Now?

Speaker 2 (24:27):
You went from making two good explanations for the prior picks.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
I have no idea who you're picking here.

Speaker 8 (24:33):
Cincinnati mine four.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Cincinnati minus four. So let's go over the picks.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Take the Steelers plus seven, Take Las Vegas plus fourteen
for the lock. Take Cincinnati minus four for the daily double.
And that was up to me to pick the the
uh the super collider, and I'm going to pick the
Steelers game. Steelers plus seven is the super collide.

Speaker 8 (25:00):
What a shot?

Speaker 5 (25:02):
What do you mean?

Speaker 8 (25:03):
What a shot? You know, well, make all these dicks,
zero doubt and uh and and like you constantly just
just attack the Steelers. Gave me because you think I
hate the Steelers. You do hate se No, you make
it the super Collider every week. You hate the Steelers,
that's why I okay, well, why would I pick the

(25:24):
Steelers if I hate the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
It's that reverse trend type of thing. It's the hidden
vigor ish. You pick them to win, so you could say,
I don't know what happened. They should have won, but
they lost.

Speaker 8 (25:34):
Oh so what you do so I can blame them
for my loss because I hate them so much as
I'm trying to say, yes, exactly right, Okay, well that's
not true. It's a toll fabrication on your part.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
No, it is true.

Speaker 8 (25:47):
It's not true. You're just the tot fabrication of your
part is too, is too. The evidence is zero, futable
and incontrovertible. It is outstanding. Okay, I do not hate
the Steelers. Okay, I talk to your fans absolutely, that's
nothing to say.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Well, well none are calling, which is no surprise because you.

Speaker 8 (26:07):
Know you never you never you never prehmp this program,
say hey we got mister freddy k next you stip well,
you never, like you don't like promote before I.

Speaker 9 (26:18):
Just did right now.

Speaker 8 (26:20):
Four already on before I come on. You would think
you would say, like, hey, mister Friday is fifteen to
oh the past two weeks. If you want to talk
to him, here's the number. And then like you go
to commercial and come back and like there's a bunch
of people like to talk to you, like you'll come
coming up.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
I thought you were more like ten and five.

Speaker 8 (26:38):
No, fifteen to oh the tates don't lie unless your
doctor the dates is your doctor the dates.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Anyway, if you like to talk to mister Fred, well, no,
it's too late in the segment. If you'd like to
ask Mark anything, talk to me. My fans can talk
to me though three four one two w XDX style
right now eight three three four one two ninety nine
thirty nine, or leave a talk back on the microphone
icon at the iHeartMedia app.

Speaker 8 (27:04):
Okay, well, what you should be doing is asking ask
Mark when you call up, why can't I talk to
my fani Your.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
Fans aren't calling.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
And by the way, we have to get we have
to get rid of you because we have a very
special guest.

Speaker 8 (27:15):
You're I'm you know, and you're trying to shadow bad
me and no, no.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Okay, I'm gonna tell I'm gonna tell you who the
guest is at the top of the hour and tell
me you wouldn't rather hear him talk than you. It's
the original, the one and only e c W World
Heavyweight Champion, the franchise Shane Douglas.

Speaker 8 (27:34):
Oh, that's fantastic. It's an honor to be a to preempt.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
Uh to Uh, it's not preempt Would you get a dictionary?

Speaker 8 (27:42):
Excuse me to to to be the segment before Shane Douglas.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
You're not the segment before your two segments before. You're
lucky you're on the show at all.

Speaker 8 (27:51):
But I would love I would love to stay on
here if I could, and we can have a roundtable
discussion on the evolution of the franchise character.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
No, that's out of the question. Uh, you know what,
I'm gonna give you a chance, though. I have a
segment coming up mess called ask Mark Anything, and my
fans call up and they can ask me anything. You're
obviously a big fan of mine. What would you like
to ask me? You can ask me anything?

Speaker 8 (28:13):
Okay, why can't I talk to my fans?

Speaker 2 (28:16):
One oh five ninety X this hour, That Mark Madden
Show is brought to you by by Night.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
Probably served a tequila cowboy on a smart mad.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
How you do good mace is always a component of
any nice day.

Speaker 5 (28:28):
Thank you for making my day?

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Yeah, what you said the ex at one O five nine.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Okay, let's get some calls in eight three, three, four,
one two ninety nine thirty nine.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Ask Mark anything, or you could leave a talk back
via the microphone icon at the iHeartMedia app.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Just to recap how I feel about this Steelers game
on Sunday. Don't forget I'll be watching the game at
Celebrations in Imperial that's right on Steubenville Pike. I think
Detroit's probably gonna kill the Steelers because I don't think
the Steelers will slow down that offense. I think Tomlin's
too dumb to come out and just admit that the

(29:17):
defense can't try to outscore the lines, which I think
they can if Rodgers keeps playing like he did the
last couple of weeks. I also think Detroit has more
to lose in this game than the Steelers. I don't
know how Detroit's lost six games, and I don't know
how the Steelers have won eight. To me, it's nutty,
but also won't surprise me if the Steelers eked out

(29:45):
a close win. I think the Steelers either get killed
or they eke out a close win. We've been talking
a lot about the Penguins as well. That game last night,
very very disappointing. Penguins got killed four or nil at Ottawa.
That's seven losses in a row and Twitter is outraised.
But once Mario comes back to run things, everything will

(30:08):
straighten out. Except he's not. Hey, if you want the truth,
the good start was fool's gold. We overreacted. I did
two and this is just what the team is, which
is not very good, and there's nobody to blame. This
is what rebuilding looks like, and it's not easy, even
more so when you have to keep the core three together.

(30:29):
Just because you have to keep the core three together,
Chill loves is horrible, but they got shut out.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Hey, I could go into detail. It's a stink sandwich.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
What I hate most is that they're getting away from
emphasizing the young guys and turning the team back over
to a bunch of bummy old veterans, not the Big three.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
I'm talking the.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Kevin Hayeses and the Nola Chari's and I don't even
know why. Danton Frigginheinen's on the team at all anymore.
None of it exactly ideal for the Dad's trip. And
nobody played good. Literally nobody not even see it. No points,
needless to say, in a four nail shutout and still
two points behind Mario and on to Montreal on Saturday.

(31:11):
Can watch the game with me at Marino's American Eater
in Greensburg because they love me in Westmoreland County. After
the game against Edmonton in the game last night, blowing
a lead in the third period, it seems like the
good old days.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Let's go to Eric eric Aaskmark anything.

Speaker 9 (31:32):
Hey, double m kind of a two pronger here. Were
you a fan of the Leslie Nielsen Naked Guns? And
did you see the Liam Neeson remake?

Speaker 2 (31:39):
I saw part of the Liam Neeson one on cable.
I thought it was pretty good. I wasn't a big
fan of the Leslie Nielson ones. I thought they were
too over the top. I understand why people like them.
I just like a little more subtlety and satire in
my comedy.

Speaker 9 (31:56):
Gotcha, what do you think of Pam Anderson with no makeup?
I think she's still stuck even at fifty.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Seven, Absolutely stunning and especially with no makeup.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
Yeah, she's very real.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Thank you, Virgina, Thank you. Let's go to a talkback, Mark.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
I was wondering how you and mister Friday Afternoon met,
and I also wanted to know what his current job
is right now?

Speaker 8 (32:21):
Thanks?

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Uh we met on a Friday afternoon, which is kind
of ironic. And his current job besides doing this, I
think he mops the floors in a peep show booth
in Las Vegas.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
I think that's what I remember.

Speaker 8 (32:39):
Let's go to a talkback, Hey, Mark, who's your favorite
local traffic reporter on the.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
X Mine is Bonnie Diver.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
She's been down to it long in the midnight.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
See oh, what's becoming of me? Look out?

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Yeah, she's obviously the the governor when it comes to
traffic reporters.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Best ever, let's go to a talkback.

Speaker 6 (33:05):
Hey, Mark, I think your impressions are underrated.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
So what do you think your best celebrity impression is?

Speaker 1 (33:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
I mean, I wish you would call the show instead
of leaving that. I don't think of myself as somebody
who impersonates.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
I do kind of get a kickout of well, my
I mean my David Coverdale is okay, but it's not
an indy as good as Red Beaches, So I don't know.
I never thought of myself as being good at that.
Let's go to Jackson Newcastle. Jackshown with double M doublem.

Speaker 8 (33:44):
What up, hey?

Speaker 10 (33:47):
Just a curiosity question. How would you describe any color
on the planet to someone who has never seen before,
lying since birth?

Speaker 8 (33:55):
How would you do it?

Speaker 1 (33:59):
I wouldn't. Why would there be a need to do that?

Speaker 5 (34:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (34:03):
We want to deski the beautiful green golf course to
a blind guy?

Speaker 8 (34:07):
How would you?

Speaker 10 (34:07):
I want to hear how the super genius would do it?

Speaker 8 (34:10):
Or how beautiful the.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
Sky looks today?

Speaker 2 (34:12):
It would literally be impossible to do because the person
who was well, I wouldn't. I wouldn't try, I wouldn't bother,
I wouldn't get myself frustrated because there was no logical
way to do it, and the super Genius deals in logic. Next,
he got the franchise Saint Douglas, former ECW World Heavyweight Champion.

(34:35):
He's got an event going on the hardcore holiday Happy
Hour tomorrow night, six to eight pm at Helltown on
the Strip, one O five to nine. It's time not
to Welcome to the show. He is the first and
forever ECW World Heavyweight Champion from Beaver Connie. Got a
bunch of stuff going on in Pittsburgh this weekend. He
is the franchise Shane Douglas. Shane, we'll get to your

(34:58):
events in just a little bit. But why isn't there
an R rated promotion now? Like ECW in its big era,
All that style of wrestlings died down, hasn't it?

Speaker 5 (35:10):
Yeah, great question. You know, there's lots of people love vanilla,
and there's a lot more that I think love chocolate,
and there's probably a few that love white cherry. Go figure. Uh,
but they have the choice to go out and buy
what they want. For some reason, our industry has decided
we're gonna give either all vanilla, all chocolate, or all
white cherry. And they've excluded a world of people. It

(35:32):
used to be when you and I were working together
in WSW and the three companies in business, there was
an average weekly viewership in America alone of forty eight
to fifty two million people tuning into put wrestling. Now
two three four million, let's double that and say six
give him a real benefit. Uh, that's still I don't
know about you. If I'm selling Hamburgers, I want to

(35:52):
sell the fifty two million people, not six or three years.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Oh, no question. But everybody lies about the ratings. They
try to tie it into streaming, into YouTube, and it's
just not the same. The advertisers certainly don't think it's
the same correct. And I don't know why there's no
adult themes and really, Shane, there's no stories either.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
There's just matches.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
It seems like so much of it is randomly put
together on the day.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
Aymen, Well, here's another way to blow your mind. One
of the most transformational television shows in wrestling history. All
the Family would never make air today. Well, right, so
you know you can't go to that. You and me
were on the same page. I agree with everything is
hit at the top there, but I also agree with
what you're saying about wrestling. I'm one of those guys
that wants to push the envelope of the storytelling and

(36:38):
I don't want to be cartoonized. I'm a little bit
too old for that. I love the sport of professional
wrestling and so please somebody give it back to us.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Yeah, and it's funny too, because ECW got copied by everybody,
you know, the attitude era in WW and then it
all just disappeared.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
And like I said, now there's no stories, there's no
adult themes. They're just matches.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
And the promotion that's disappointed me the most is AEW
because they had the money with Tony Kahan to go
in a different direction, maybe in the direction that you
and I would like, but whatever they've chosen is just
WWE lighte with recycling guys. I mean, I had hoped
they would stick with guys like Guavara and now a
kid like Ace Austin is their stars MJF guys who

(37:24):
hadn't been overexposed. But I mean, they just brought back
a bunch of guys to TV who didn't need to
be on TV no more.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
Well, I don't watch it enough to like go through
piece by piece like that, but I'll say this, when
they started, I'll keep in mind, we had one of
these a decade ago, Dixie Carter at the time, spent
seven hundred and sixty eight. They're about million dollars, millions
of dollars and had nothing to show for it. Mike
with TNA, Yeah, Yeah, with TNA. Tony Kahn has gone

(37:53):
over the billion dollar mark and their ratings two weeks
agoing over. I checked the last time three hundred and
ninety six thousand. So unless they got fifty million streaming
and not being registered somewhere, I'd say Daddy might want
to get his CTAs involved here fairly soon.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
No question.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
We're not going to Shane Douglas the franchise here on
one oh five nine. The next Shane, You've got a
couple events going on in Pittsburgh. Saturday and Sunday You're
at Wrestle VERSU at the David Allard's Convention Center. And
then your thing is Saturday night, Tomorrow night, six to
eight pm. You got the hardcore Holiday Happy Hour at
hell Town in the Strip, and that's going to feature

(38:32):
you and our buddy Big Ned and of course the
Queen of Extreme, your old sidekick, Francine.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
What are you going to have going on there?

Speaker 5 (38:40):
Oh, dude? Like, what a big deal of this is
the first of all, Big Ned, the seven foot actor
from How I Met Your Mother, he's been out swepting man.
He's been getting like the old days with the wrestling
Street Team. He's been doing that. So we're having a
hardcore happy Hour at hell Tom Brewing, no covers cards,
the Queen of Extreme. By the way, Mark, That'll be
the first time in over twenty years that Francine and

(39:02):
I have appeared here in Pittsburgh, and over a decade
for me making any major appearance in Pittsburgh. So we're
looking to get a lot of fans out. Like I said,
no covert chards. We have I should say, Big Ned
has a ton of games figured out, autographs and pictures.
It's gonna be a great, great night. What we're looking
to do is starting to annual holiday party that Pittsburgh

(39:24):
is going to come out and support and the quint
of Extreme then, you know, not too bad on the eyeballs.
You know, she's never never was. Yeah, and back in
the day, you know, Paul Aman said, come on, somebody's
gonna work with Francine, and so I said, I'll take
a bullet for the boys.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Yeah, yeah, they they had to beg you to do it.
I gotta cut you off there.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
That's tomorrow night, six to eight at at Hell Time
Strip District tap Room.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
That's the hardcore holiday happy hour.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
Shane, here's a cliched question, but what wrestler today preferably
a younger guy. Do you like I mean, I know
you're like me. You don't watch it nearly as extensive
we used to. But somebody got to jump to mind.
Oh well, MJF.

Speaker 5 (40:06):
You mentioned earlier Dolph Ziggler another I've been talking about
this guy for twenty years and I cannot figure out
who he's got heat with. Because he's a talented guy,
he gets pushed for a month and shoved down the
list for three or four months. Remember Steve Bustin's to say,
if Vince wants you over, he'll trump a racketeer, and
I don't think they've done that with Dolph. MJF. I'm

(40:27):
gonna hear from you. Why do you think MJF is
so over?

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Well.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
I think he's a great heel.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
I think he's very much in the tradition of Roddy Piper,
who was his idol growing up, and he cuts great promos.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
But I think he still needs a bit of an editor.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
I think he is allowed to say everything he wants
in ae W and I think he's really good, but
still kind of raw in that regard.

Speaker 5 (40:49):
I think he needs steered a bit. What do you think, Yeah,
I would agree with that. I would have turned it deffinitely,
but the exact same definition. He's just playing an old
school heel. What perplexes me is when you're a young
guy in the rest and addressing him. Trust God was
once when you see somebody getting you know, explosives response
out there, you start to pay attention to go, what's

(41:11):
he doing that? I'm not? What's he doing that?

Speaker 3 (41:13):
I'm not?

Speaker 5 (41:14):
And I don't know if anybody's doing that there. I agree,
I think that Tony Kahn if and I've never met
the guy, I just want to say, like what I'm
viewing it like you scantly watching h I think he
lets the guys just do whatever they want to do.

Speaker 6 (41:28):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (41:28):
And I base that off the things I've seen online
and things I've heard from different people. You know sometimes
and you know this, in wrestling, we're all crazy, right,
So you can't let the inmates run that asylum where
you'll end up with inmate running the crazy asylum.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
But the problem there is Shane And I've met Tony
a number of times.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
He's a good guy.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
I think he actually has a decent wrestling mind. He
just needs steered himself. But but but the problem is
he's an easy paycheck and nobody wants to tell that
emperor he has no clothes.

Speaker 5 (41:57):
Well that's yeah. I remember when Vince was on Steve
Austin's podcast several years ago and he said, everybody in
the dressing rooms to reach for the golden ring. And Steve,
so what do they miss it is when they said
reach for the golden ring. So talk about a confusing
message to everybody in the locker room.

Speaker 8 (42:11):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (42:12):
Yeah, that's a shame if that's the case, because you know,
like you said, they've got seemingly the few times I've
been a bit to the I think four or five
of their events, they seem to have the enthusiasm, they
seem to have clearly the money, which is the big thing.
As you know. Uh, they certainly have talent in that
dressing room. But when you hear talent, certain talent saying

(42:34):
a few years ago, there's we're not listening to legends
anymore because there's nothing they can teach us. I would
beg to differm. My god, if I hadn't had dominic
In Bruno and pez Watt, the litany of guys I had,
Ricky Steve wouldn't be talking to me. Yeah, you wouldn't
be talking to me right now, you'd be talking to
somebody else. It's invaluable what you learn from those guys.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
And finally, Shane, here's the question.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Everybody's talking about seeing a wrestled his last match, but
I don't believe for a second his last match.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
But let's assume it was. Would you have had him
tap the gunther?

Speaker 5 (43:06):
No? Not not as well. I you know, I understand
why somebody like John would want to do it.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
I might have had him lose, but I'm not sure
it would have done it exactly that convincingly.

Speaker 5 (43:17):
Yeah, yeah, consideringly that they made the big bill that
he'd never done in his career. But you can see how,
you know, when Brock was wrestling the Undertaker, how those
of us in our business that want to give back
will try to do something like that. So I don't
fault John for trying and full his closer. I didn't
watch it, my sons had told me about it. I

(43:39):
wouldn't have done it that way, at least in the
in the sense that they did it. It would have
required a different build up, in a different tack when
they had him at Wrestlemann. He has the heel and
then flipping, you know, like sort of mismatching, going back
and forth. You know, it sort of loses its edge.
I think as soon as soon.

Speaker 1 (43:56):
As the Rock got uninvolved.

Speaker 2 (43:57):
No offense to John, who I like and I think
is had you know, a top ten fifteen career of
all time, it kind of lost its team. Shame again.
