Speaker 1 (00:01):
Steelers hosting Green Bay on Sunday Night, joining Me not how
to discuss. He has a great podcast he does with
Trey Essex, and he hosts the postgame show after Steeler
games on DVE. He is former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch.
Charlie Aaron Rodgers says, this isn't a revenge game for
him playing the Packers.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Dude, think he's telling the truth.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Absolutely not.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
There's no way because, yeah, you know, when the schedule
comes out, you always have games that you kind of circle.
You're aware of what games are going to be where.
But this is a game he had on the calendar,
and you know, even though things you know didn't go,
you know, according to his words, you know you wish
it would have been better than last year that he
was there. But again, it's still an organization who would
truly have given up on you and they moved on

(00:44):
with Jordan Love. So this is going to be a
game that's going to be very similar to what we
saw against the Jets. We're not gonna hear.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Much prior to but if they can start figure out
a way to.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Win this game, then you'll hear how he truly feels
after working this press conference.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Well, Rogers has been very good for the Steelers, even
better than I. And his arm strength at forty one, Charlie,
it's incredible, Like that hill Mary at Cincinnati. It didn't work,
but seventy yards in the air and way up there too, Yes,
it was.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
He has that arm strength like you mentioned, and as
soon as the play happened, I'm like, this is one
of his favorite plays. He loves to kind of roll
out to the left by some time and get that
ball up in the air. But to your point, seventy yards.
But even prior to that throw, the throw that he
made on the move as he kind of settled and
completed that past the past fire move, that was a
laser that the defensive back couldn't even get his hand

(01:33):
on it and not allowed to touch down. But to
you know, everything that you mentioned, his arm strength is
exactly where you where you would think we would be at.
But man, I didn't expect it to be this good.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
How do older quarterbacks maintain their arm strength? Is there
a secret or is it just something you're born with?

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Would you have to do more recovery? I mean you're
icing and stem and just doing anythings you can just
to get the recovery process going, So that's something that
happens behind the scenes. And obviously to continue to maintain
your strength and not just something that you know that
the coaching staff or at least the strength catch strengthen
strength coaching staff as we apologize for that. Those they'll

(02:10):
put you through a customized workout to make sure that
you're maintaining not losing muscle that the season goes on.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Charlie, I never thought the defense would be just disappointing. Uh,
what's gone wrong and how do they fix it?

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Yeah, when you were the Mike Tomlins worse when they
were in training camp, he said this could be historic,
and I'm just like, okay, that's there anywhere. You were
nowhere close to that, And that's just frustrating. And of
course they didn't have a lot of their pieces and
all of that, and that's something that you didn't expect.
And I think the biggest piece is Derek Harmon because
that's why you drafted him in the first round for
a reason, to stop the bleeding in the run game.

(02:43):
They were good for a couple of weeks and now
things are starting to kind of creep back in in
the running game, and that's just unacceptable this particular point.
Now that it looks like maybe they have their pieces,
hopefully they can continue to move, you know, up in
the standing because right now it can't get any worse.
They're at the bottom of the league. Eventually in defensive rankings,
they have to get that better.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Well, you talk about the run defense and don't get
no easier because they're playing Josh Jacobs this week against
Green Bay and Jonathan Taylor for Indy, who might be
the best back in the league. It's kind of make
or break for that run defense, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
It really is excuses right now because yeah, a short week,
that's understandable. But now you're home, you have a full
compliment here. That brass shouldn't be an issue. You have
the crowd that's behind you. You have to figure out
a way to use the game plan very similar to
what you did against the Browns. Stop the run, making
one dimensional and get after the quarterback. And that's always

(03:35):
been the formula for this defense. And they have to
get to you. And that's why you heard Terol Austin's
presser on Thursday. He said, we have to stop the run,
and that is completely true, and they got to just
figure out a way to do it because right now
they're not even close. At least last week they weren't.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
What's your take on Jordan Love the Green Bay quarterback.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
I'm not sure he's in the line of succession with
Farvin Rodgers, but maybe it's unfair.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
I think he's pretty good though.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
He is, And I remember just a couple of years
ago when they played here at Acting Shore and I
saw him for the first time. I'm like, wow, this
guy can actually throw the football. He was moving around,
he was very accurate. So you have that, you know,
even though that was a couple of years ago, you
do have that to lean back on. But ultimately, for him,
he's going to be judge judge by what he does
in the playoffs because yet they're, you know, a very

(04:22):
stable organization. They but again, their expectations are winning Super Bowl.
So anytimes you have a chance to be compared to
a Brett Farbar Aaron Rodgers, the only thing that matters
up there is can you bring home that Lombardi Trophy,
very similar to what those other two did.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
I think Green Bay's a weird team, Charlie, and there's
certainly a lot of weird teams having weird seasons in
the NFL. But how do you kill Detroit week one
and then later lose to Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
I'm sitting there scratching my head as well to try
to figure that out. And I think sometimes when that happens,
you know, you kind of just kind of take things
and take teams for granted. When you start looking at
the statistics, you're like, oh, yeah, we can win in
this department and start losing track of all of those
small things that you did. So I think that was, uh,
you know, well, obviously I had a wake up call

(05:08):
for those guys, but they aren't gonna they have no
more room for error at this particular point because Detroit
obviously is you know, they're playing very well, and they
have any expectations of winning that NFC nor these are
games that they have to win as they enter on
Sunday night.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
How should the Steelers deal with Michael Parsons on Sunday?
Because they did pretty good, you know, against Miles Garrett
when they played Cleveland. That said, even though Cleveland's defense
is real good, I think Green Bays might have a
few more weapons.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeah, and then you know, going into that Browns game.
You did have Miles Garrett would battling the ankle injury,
so he wasn't that full step, but either way he
was out there playing. You have to shut him down.
The Steelers did that, But now I don't see that
they're going to put their tackles on one on one
on the outside with Michaeh Parsons. I think there's going
to be some type of body presence with a tight
end there or maybe even the back chipping out of

(05:56):
the backfield to make sure at least you're addressing that
and the other guys have to stand up because Green
Bay is going to try to figure out a way
if they see that your double team in Micah, somebody
outside of that will have one on one and they
have to beat that one on one to get to
the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Charlie Bass brout list by eighty four Lumber Dynasty, partner
of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now in that vein, Charlie, is
the Steelers offensive line improving?

Speaker 2 (06:19):
I kind of think so, But what do you think?
And if so?

Speaker 5 (06:21):
How so?

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, they are improving. I mean they did really well.
I mean that's better than expectations or especially over the
last couple of weeks and you know, obviously Troy he's
playing well. But Broderick has been a surprise over the
last couple of weeks and that has been an area
where that even though they were young, they're growing and
Aaron is doing a really good job of getting Ridy
to football, making sure that the protections are on order.
Now the question is, we don't know if Zach Frazier

(06:46):
is going to be healthy. The injury report just came out.
They do have them right now, is questionable before that game.
So even though the Lion has gotten better over the
last three weeks, if you remove now the brain of
the offensive line, essentially Ken, whoever is going to step
be that guy to now continue to get this running
game going. So that's going to be one, especially on
the inactive list, to see if Zach Fraser hopefully he

(07:08):
doesn't pop up on and if he does, then that's
going to be something that we have to pay attention to.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Is dk Metcalf doing enough And if not, I don't
think it's his fault, Charlie, but I wonder why.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Not he's enough?

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Is they don't have a number two receiver that's complimenting
him Kylevinnsen was supposed to be that guy. He missed
a couple of games with injury. But yet at what
the rest of that group just aren't doing what they
need to do. And unfortunately, when you see just as
a group they are, they have thirty eight catches on
the season, I'm not cuting tight ends. They have thirty
eight catches on the season, six hundred and twelve yards

(07:44):
and only seven touchdowns. So the majority of that has
come from DK. So somebody not named DK is going
to have to step up. But again, we just saw
you know, that's sure if you saw the injury report,
but Scotty Miller has been ruled out with the finger
for this game. So again you're losing it that they
were in presence in that group. So that group is
going to have to shot to take a lot of

(08:04):
the pressure off of this running game to have to
belease attempt to complete those passes down to fort field
because that that lack of explosion plays just on in
this offense right now.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Well, Austin's supposed to be back this week, and really, Charlie,
I'm not sure why it is a problem if they
use John New and Firemouth's more and fire Mooths had
the big game at Cincinnati, But overall, I'm not sure
they've utilized the tight ends quite like I've expected.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
No, they got better over the last couple of weeks
with that, but I took their point. I wanted to
see more of Smith. I thought he was going to
be the so called number two receiver in this group,
and I just haven't materialized at this point. So as
Darnelle Washington has taken over tight end number one, how
is Arthur Smith going.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
To utilize those other two?

Speaker 4 (08:44):
I just don't know as the season goes on, can
you create and keep this formula with three tight ends
on the field, knowing that, hey, maybe we'll have to
go ten play drives every single time that you touched
the field. I just don't believe that that formula works.
They're going to have to get the explosion place in
this offense.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
See that ties right into what I was gonna ask
next next, because I don't believe that formula works either.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
I think sometimes in this league you've got to score quick.
You just have to.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
You against Cincinnati, they were able to, you know, hit
Friar Muth on that big touchdown pass to get them
right back, you know, into the game. But I think
ultimately you have to figure out where where you're going
to take your shots. At what I love about Aaron,
He's not going to beat you. He's not going to
make those mistakes that's going to cost you the game.
If the defense is able to create the turnovers, you
have to be able to capitalize off of those points.

(09:32):
And right now, yes, they've you know, it's good and bad.
There's you know, some ebb and flow that happens that way,
but they have to continuously do that because of the defense.
You're looking at the film and you're like, Okay, I
don't have to cover deep. They only throw go balls.
They're not necessarily going to complete those passes. And then
we take that element away, this offense can become stagnant.
So again, they just have to figure out how they

(09:53):
can incorporate some more of those big plays.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
I want to get back to the defense for a
little bit, Charlie. Are they asking Jalen Ramsey to do
too much at age thirty. I'm not saying he's playing bad.
In fact, quite the opposite, But I think at this
point in his career he might just be a slot
corner and not a guy that covered Jamar.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Yeah, it's slot corner, or you can put him back
there at safety and you can kind of look at
and say, maybe you're converting like that in the same
manner like you did a Rob Woodson who had a
fantastic career once he actually transitioned into safety. So you
see him moving around in that manner. But I just
don't know if they fully trust the whole compliment of
defensive backs at this particular point. Joey Porter Junior had

(10:31):
missed some time with injuries. You have Brandon Nichols that
are back there, and of course Pierre as well. So again,
these are things that's going to happen because you can't
continue to put a Darius Slay out there, even though
he's solid with pro bowler in this league, you just
can't continue to expose people out there one on one.
You have to confuse the quarterback by mixing up coverages,

(10:52):
and you have the experience back there to do so.
Now let's see at teruro Astin could do that.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Were you surprised that Nick Krbig was not there at
the end against Cincinnati. I think he's been their best
pass rusher.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Yeah, he has been outside of TJ, of course, but
I think you know, for me, when I look at
the reason why he's not playing, it's because of the money.
And when you were making the most money, you're going
to get every opportunity out there. And that's why Alex
Hadsmith has stepped right back into that starting good lineup
and then Nick Herbert obviously now he falls to the
bench and he's playing more to special teams now that
they have that compliment back. Alex Heismith is healthy. Let's

(11:27):
figure out that we've seen three linebacker packages is just
the game that they use it because the Packers are
going to be in three receiver sets a lot. Again,
we don't know, and that's something that obviously in his
chess match we're going to find out here early.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Don't you feel like Wat's got to do more?

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Though at that price, tag Charlie.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
He has to do more.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
But you know this is something that you know for
him to really, you know, shine in that man, you
have to have a complimentary gow on the other side. Yes,
he had it in Nick Herbert, but TJ is going
to be always commanding that double team. He's learned how
to beat the double team and he just has to
do it more consistently, and I'm not down on him
at all. I believe that he can truly do it.
And when you have games like this, primetime games in

(12:08):
the whole country is watching you. All your MVP voters
are out there watching you, So you know, maybe you
just kind of elevate your game a little bit more
because of Sunday Night.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Finally, Charlie, what's your take on the AFC North Right now?
Is Baltimore out of it in Cincinnati? Boy, if they
beat the Jets and the Steelers lose, they're just one
game a half game back of the Steelers. And I
don't know, Flaco, I mean maybe I shouldn't be, but
I already believe a little bit in them with him.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Yeah, that's why they're kicking themselves. They're not winning this
game on Thursday night because they could have really put
themselves a lot farther ahead and gave himselfs a cushion.
Now you're kind of right back into the thickest things
in that clutter because, for whatever reason, if you fumble
one and you see Baltimore continuously creeping in right now,
you're not thinking about the end game, meaning, hey, what

(12:56):
does it look like in December, let's see if we
can get to five hundred, Let's see what the Steelers do.
And then ultimately, when you get to week twelve, then
you start evaluating kind of where you at. Are you
within striking distance? So these games right here, these are
the game Steelers cannot afford to lose any more of
these games because there's a lot of people, especially nationally,
that still have a lot of high hopes with Lamar

(13:18):
Jackson coming back in that Baltimore group.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
But I think Baltimore gotta beat Chicago. Sunday went through
without Lamar. I think if they drop the one and six, Charlie,
it's just too far back.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
I think it's, you know, six games out, essentially trying
to make the playoffs. Maybe only get seven losses in there,
and there's no more room now they you know, they
can go on a run, and that's you know, that's
perfectly fine. You do have the Steelers twice, you have
a few more division games, but I think ultimately they
cannot afford to lose. I think they've lost their last
game already if they hope to at least have a

(13:50):
division title.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Charlie, great stuff.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
I appreciate taking the time, enjoyed the game Sunday nights.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
That's Charlie Batch. That might be the best football time

But right now, get your calls in. Uh eight three, three, four,

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Nine and your calls in eight three three, four one
two WXDX. You know what I do that I shouldn't
do bad enough. I go on Twitter and people torture me.
I try to laugh and usually do, but I go
on Reddit where they really torture me. There's a thread
about Kindle on Reddit where people think I hate Kindle,

(15:34):
and I've been critical of Kindle. Nothing could be remotely
further from the truth.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
I were to call him in the trip saying the Kindle.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Needs to be used just right for the sake of
his development. I talk about him on this show like
he's the next Crosby, which he ain't. Bit he good
enough for me so far, I've done it everything but
run on him by a Ben Kindall jersey, and these
nitwits on Twitter think I've been overly critical and I

(16:08):
may yet get a Ben Kindle jersey. Number eighty one
kind of a kessel vibe, and it's a wide enough
number where you don't look as fat like when I
played deck hockey always were twenty two real wide number
or seventy seven once as well. You don't look as
fat with the wide number, although I did. Anyway. One

(16:31):
thing we forgot to note last night. It wasn't a goal,
but what an almost goal? Did you see when Florida
had the goalie pulled and the face off was the
Jari's right sid taking it, hit it hard out of
the zone on his forehand and almost banked it into
the net.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
It was incredible.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
I mean, did he got that much on it, He
hit it that cleanly that not only hear the zone
but almost put it in the net, you know, going
on two hundred feet away. Just unreal that he even
almost did it. I seem to remember when the Penguins
blew that playoff series in seventy five to the Islanders,
up three games to none, lost for straight.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
I seem to remember.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
That the Islanders clinched Game five at Pittsburgh when a
guy named jud dru Wan did the same thing and
it went in the net. At the other end face
off Banks shot empty net. I seem to remember that
being the case, Let's go to Dick Dick Jardan Mark
Madden show.

Speaker 9 (17:41):
Uh yeah, I was watching the game last night, and
I don't watch all the games. I don't overanalyze the
players and whatnot, but I just had to say I
just wanted to relay of stat that they said that
the old two niners said. I about crapped my pants
when they said that Connor Doer actually had the fourth
most goals on the Pens since he was acquired, and

(18:04):
I just wanted to know your thoughts on Doer and
him being on now demoted to the fourth line.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I think he's average at best. I think he is
a fourth liner. Now.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
You know those goals, I mean, they can mean a
lot or they can be outliers.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
I'm glad he's succeeding.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I think it'll keep him in uniform, but I think
he is a bottom six to be sure, what do
you think? I mean, not just the stats, brug, but
you see him play right.

Speaker 10 (18:27):
Well, I guess that was my point.

Speaker 9 (18:29):
I don't really focus much on him, so that's why
I was so surprised that he has.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Well, if a fourth liner is going to contribute like that,
you know what, I think, at the very worst, step
makes him is a good fourth liner. And there's no
shame in that I just don't think he has the
skill set to play with a guy like Sid or Gino,
for that matter, Kendle, although I think Kendle's been out
there with him some Thank you for the call, Dick.

(18:54):
Last night was a real fun game, wasn't it just
a real fun game? Florida would almost catch up. Penguins
would score right back. Like flortimated three to two, do
Or scored two and a half minutes later, flordamated four
to three. Sid scored I think half a minute later.

(19:16):
Not that they're a good team, Like I said earlier,
that is what good teams do. Maybe they're better than
we thought they could be. That'd be fun and in
many ways counter productive. There's always another way to win

electricities out, so you got kind of lucky.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Well, how are you recording the show then?

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Anyway, let's move on to the picks. Let's start with
the Steeler games. Steelers are three point underdogs at home
against Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Who do you like?

Speaker 5 (21:49):
Steelers plus three?

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (21:53):
For some reason, you're very reserved and you're not offering
very much in a way of entertainment, not that you
ever really do, but you're not very locket.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
What's going on?

Speaker 5 (22:01):
Well, I was waiting for you to start insulting me
and stuff, and I was waiting for my shocks, and
you kind of like threw me a curve ball this week.
I was kind of unprepared. But and even you've been
saying that I hate the Steelers, but I'm picking the Steelers.
I'm picking the Steelers. How can I hate the Steelers
if I'm picking the Steelers?

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Well, like you hate hate the Steelers and you're picking them,
So then when they lose, you can say that they
failed you.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Well, that's what you would say. I'm not. I'm not
picking the team to hope I lose. I can I
can chastise the team for causing me to lose.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Right, because you would do if you would never double
cross the listener.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
Right because right because this is again, you know, this
is the typical spot for the Steelers to do a
home underdog. You know it's a Baron Rodgers revenge game.
He's not playing that well lately. You just you just
take the Steelers here.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Okay, take the Steelers plus three against Green Bay. By
the way, do you have anything to do with the
NBA game fixing.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
Scandal sunny business, I've been totally can't. I'm not supposed
to talk about that by my lawyer.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Have you been arrested? Have you been indicted?

Speaker 5 (23:15):
My lawyers has advised me not to say anything.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Do you have Chauncey Billups in your list of contacts.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
That my lawyer's advised me not to say anything.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Look, this is a radio show. You can't take the
fifth Amendment.

Speaker 5 (23:31):
Well I can, because then I'm not taking the fifth Amendment.
I'm just telling you. My lawyer told me to say.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Who's your lawyer? Uh, Sam Lyman, Sam Smallprint.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
Lineman, He's been my lawyer for years.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Okay, well I would take his advice. Okay, let's what
is now the pick of the week.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
Taking the week's gonna be the Washington Redskins plus thirteen
to see that's that's that's a racist statement. The rushington
and me.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Okay, well you'll be fine for saying that.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
Well, my lawyer will get me out of it.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
So Washington plus the current lines twelve and a half.
Well that's a lot of points.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
Yeah, they're going to do a twelve Tony Haus like,
yeah it is. That's that's why it's you take it.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Well, No, very difficult to Jane Daniels.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Obviously, that's the biggest fact in that line. Do you
think Kansas City's all the way back because I'm still
picking them to not make the playoffs?

Speaker 5 (24:27):
I think they. I think everybody's in begging, Like there's
been a narrative for two straight years that they're going
to open up the offense. I think that now that
they've got the they've got the weapons that they need
and stuff. I just think everybody's just assuming that they're
just gonna blow everybody out every week. And uh, I
just don't see, but your watching. He's got a lot
of good players and Marcus Marriotta is one of the better,

(24:49):
uh one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league.
He's been showing them to move the offense every time
he's been you know, he's had a chance to Its
just too many points, especially on Monday Night, especially coming
up with but bad, a bad loss like they had
last week. You know, they're gonna the well coach team
with a lot of good players. You know, they went
into the Detroit last year and blew them out in

(25:10):
the playoffs. So this is there's a team that I
think will show up on Monday Night.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
So uh So the pick so far the Steelers plus three,
Washington plus twelve and a half. Uh did did Chauncy
Bill which feed you any inside information on these games?

Speaker 5 (25:27):
No, Damon Jones, listen of your business.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Uh okay, and now it's time for the Daily double.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
I'm gonna let you do the handicap on this. I'm
gonna pick the team, and I'm gonna let you tell
me why it's a good pick. Okay, I'm gonna take
Atlanta minus seven and a half at home against Miami.
Tell me why it's a.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Good pick, because Miami just stinks.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
That's about as you know, as simple as as it
can be. Right here, Plus are gonna they're terrible against
the run. Is coming off a loss, This is a
it is a get right game that everybody's hurt on Miami.
Everybody the waller's out there ready. The narrative going around
is is that, uh, Mike mcgaine's gonna have a quick
hook on tour two. Isn't playing terrible?

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Terrible?

Speaker 5 (26:16):
And the backups are bad too, And to try to
keep his job, I think he's he's throwing these guys
out there to show the owners say, hey, look a
look at what you give me to work with. Like,
none of these guys are any good, you know, So
I think, yeah, this this should be a pretty simple

(26:36):
you know that. Don't anybody that's like taking Miami plus
the seven and a half, like you know, I see
maybe a lot of expert gambles will say, well, it's
the seven and the hook will get you in something like
but when this game is over, this this so probably
one of the easier picture of the week that they
would have been made.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Okay, so it's the daily double.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Said.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
Oh by the way, by the way, all three of
these picks of them they with no doubt.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
Okay, we must have lost the sound effect. You got
it wrong at zero dot you idiots zero Excuse me?

Speaker 5 (27:14):
Correct here doubt?

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Okay, Now I ask you, did you get any inside
information regarding who's starting and who won't be from any
of the coaches involved in these games or any of
the players?

Speaker 5 (27:24):
H No, but I got them from my sources.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Who are your sources?

Speaker 5 (27:30):
The say business?

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Did you get any information from players in these games
regarding prop bets?

Speaker 5 (27:38):
Let me ask you you a question. Do you know
any of the u any of the the La Cosa
Nostra members that that were involved in this family scandal? Because,
I guess is a pretty big thing in Pittsburgh too,
isn't it.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Well, yeah, we call it the mafia.

Speaker 5 (27:54):
Okay, well, are you compromised by the mafia?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Well, my lawyers advised me to not comments.

Speaker 5 (28:03):
All right, So what are you gona What are you gonna
do with the super Collider?

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Now? Okay, well, you hate the Steelers as we don't.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
No, I don't, which which usually I mean, which usually
makes me pick the Steelers game as the super Collider.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
Colickt.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
But in this case, I am going to ignore that
you hate the Steelers and and and figure that you
know you these picks are compromised, not compromised, but made
more probable via you being compromised by by what did
you call it?

Speaker 2 (28:32):
La Coos and ostrom and.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Certainly uh, the game fixing elements mentioned in the NBA scandal.
By the way, have you ever played any in any
rigged poker games?

Speaker 11 (28:44):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (28:45):
Yeah, so I lost all my money.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
So you played in rigged poker games that lost your money?
Did you know they were rigged?

Speaker 5 (28:53):
No? I didn't. I did until I found out that
they were rigged. Affords there. But but that's I already
lost all my money.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Now at any point we ever arrested for hosting a
poker game, that's.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
My lawyer's advised you not to say anything about that.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
Okay, well, I'm not going to pick the Steeler game
as the super Collider. They instead the super collider will
be Washington plus twelve and a half against Kansas City.

Speaker 5 (29:19):
Oh really, so I want to do something. This you're
picking Washington is a super collider, right? And all these
games the name was zero doubt?

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (29:32):
Can wea Can I switch the daily double to the
Washington games?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
No?

Speaker 5 (29:43):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Because you just can't. Why did you wait?

Speaker 5 (29:46):
Now?

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Hold on?

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Did you get texted a tip by a coach or
a player or Chauncy Phillips.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Is that what you want to switch?

Speaker 5 (29:53):
That's any your business?

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (29:55):
You can't switch it then, because I got a feeling
you do have inside information illegally obtained, and I want
to get you know, as many wins in as I
can based on your picks before you're arrested.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
So are you trying literacy question? Are you trying to
imply that's the only time that I ever won these
picks is when I get the insider information.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yes? Uh?

Speaker 1 (30:14):
And I'm also implying you're very likely to be arrested.
And I'm also implying if I have any evidence against you,
I will call the FBI.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
Well do me this, just give me this solid, Please
do me solid if I do get arrested, Can I
call you to get me out of jail?

Speaker 2 (30:29):
No?

Speaker 5 (30:31):
Why not? Well why not?

Speaker 2 (30:32):
I just who will be the show?

Speaker 5 (30:33):
Then? What if I get arrested? And will you bail
me out of jail to do the show?

Speaker 1 (30:40):
It depends how you do this week? Now would you say, well,
would you say your arrest is imminent?

Speaker 5 (30:49):
That will my lawyer's advice. You don't say anything about that.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Okay, So to recap, take the Steelers plus three, take
Atlanta minus seven and a half in the Daily double
super collid is Washington plus twelve and a half?

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Is that accurate? Are those right picks?

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Correct? Those are those are the right picks?

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Would you like would you like to check your text
one more time to see if you have any you
got information that could update the picks?

Speaker 5 (31:14):
No, I'd actually likes to if I talk to my fans.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Okay, let's go to Bill. Bill, you're own with mister
Friday Afternoon.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
A doublemma as a former super fan of of the
UH the mister Friday Afternoon. My question is is is
mister Friday Afternoon on the witness Protection program?

Speaker 5 (31:31):
That's a good question, that's that's one of your business.
So why would why would have been on the Witness
Protection program.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Well, I mean you're obviously involved. You're obviously involved with
this gambling scandal.

Speaker 6 (31:45):
Just you're questionable, shaky, mister shake.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
Mister, thank you for the call. Bill, mister would you would?
Are you prepared to rat on Chauncy Phillips?

Speaker 12 (31:57):

Speaker 5 (31:57):
Well, actually prepared a rat on you.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Why I'm not implicating anything because you won't build me
out of jail. That's right in their zero doubt correct.
Time to thank you, mister Friday afternoon. Time to ask

I got a question for you. So, mister Friday afternoon,
I don't get it.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Is it about?

Speaker 2 (34:42):
It's football picks?

Speaker 12 (34:45):
So, like, what's Is it just to be funny? Is
it your friend you're talking?

Speaker 2 (34:49):
It's supposed to be football picks.

Speaker 12 (34:52):
I don't know. Maybe your other callers can help me
understand it.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
It's not for you.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
It's not for you to understand it's football picks. I mean,
why do have to explain what it is? He makes
football picks and you can bet on them or not.

Speaker 12 (35:04):
But you but you talk about like going to jail.
FBI can't.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
He may be under indictment in the Chauncy Phillips gambling scandal.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
He may have helped.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
I'm speaking out of turn here and I can't say
for sure, but I think there's a possibility he was
involved in the fix of new NBA games and maybe
NFL games.

Speaker 12 (35:28):
Does anybody enjoy it?

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Would I enjoy him going to jail?

Speaker 8 (35:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:32):
A little bit? No?

Speaker 12 (35:33):
No, do any of your fans enjoyed listening to the
bit I don't know what?

Speaker 3 (35:38):
Okay?

Speaker 12 (35:39):
Well, if you want to know he's I don't.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
Care, how's that?

Speaker 12 (35:44):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Thank you to call. Though it's football picks. Why don't
we look deeper than that?

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Every freaking radio show in the world has football picks.
Why do I have to define what my football pick
segment is? And the stuff about him maybe being on indictment,
I mean, well, we'll see. I don't know for sure.
Let's go to a talkback.

Speaker 13 (36:06):
I'm in the same boat with you as to how
I feel about Mike Tomlin. But I was wondering why
I don't hear you much talk about Terrell Austin and
how responsible he is for the terrible defense.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
Because he's not at all responsible for the terrible defense.
Mike Tomlin is the actual defensive coordinator. He makes all
the decisions and I mean all the decisions regarding that defense.
Tara Austin is his buddy, his lackey, and does his
detail work. So while others will criticize Tara Austin. That's
just because they're scared to criticize Mike Tomlin. But I

(36:45):
know who's responsible for that defense. Everybody, even vaguely familiar
with the way the Steelers operate, knows that Mike Tomlin
is entirely responsible for that defense. If he wanted somebody
else to run the defense, he would have kept Brian Flores,
who was here for a year as an assistant. And
I was doing a great job as defensive coordinator in
Minnesota and has always been thought of as a better

(37:07):
defensive mind than Mike Tomlin by those who know.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
But he wants a lackey. He wants to run the d.
He wants to be hands on with that side of
the ball.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
And that's the that's the dynamic between him and the
guy with the title of defensive coordinator, Terror Austin. And
that's just a fact. Let's go to Antonio. Antonio, ask
Mark anything.

Speaker 8 (37:29):
Hey, Mark, just so if they do win, they do
have a home playoff game. They need help to get third.
But to the Hound, sorry, but as they make this
playoff push, h how far.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Right here?

Speaker 1 (37:44):
Their fourth and Eastern conference will put you a home
playoff match next Saturday, with a win or a draw
and help, yes Hartford, Well that that so they need
they need help to get a home playoff game, according
to what.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
The River Hunts sent me.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
So if they win, it.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
Doesn't matter. Do I think they can make a playoff run?
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
I mean, the year they finished first overall in the league,
best record in both conferences, they lost the first game.
It is so hard to predict a single elimination playoff
format in.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
Soccer, right, Do I think the potential's there?

Speaker 1 (38:22):
I think they started to score a few more goals,
and Eric Dick, my guest next hour, maybe among the
league's best goalkeepers, if not the very best. So yeah,
I think they have a shot to beat any team
they play in the postseason.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Let's go to Mark mark Aspark anything.

Speaker 10 (38:38):
Hey, Mark, I just wanted to know why you never
went nas to a nationally syndicated radio sports talk show.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Nobody wanted me.

Speaker 10 (38:47):
Oh for real?

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, for real? I mean I started radio very late
in life. When I was thirty five. I did a
little national weekend radio for ESPN, but I was offered
a job by ESPN and New York that's not national.
But they wanted me to go there on my Pittsburgh contract,
and my mother was getting a little older and maybe
a little ill at that point, and uh, and they

(39:09):
wanted me to go on my existing contract, which would
have meant like a forty percent cost of living decrease.
So you know, I have had opportunity, But I got
to be honest. You know a lot of those not
not the big time, like Colin Coward makes a ton
of money.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Steven A. Smith on radio makes a ton of money.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
But I guarantee I make more here in Pittsburgh than
the average national radio host. I guarantee I make more
than eighty percent of national radio hosts, maybe eighty five
or ninety because big fish in small pond is where
the money is in radio.

Speaker 10 (39:41):
Well, I think the nation would do a really enjoy
you your show.

Speaker 5 (39:46):
So I don't think I don't think.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
I don't think. I don't.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
I don't think they would. And I'll tell you, why
do you think I'd ever talk about the NBA?

Speaker 10 (39:55):
No?

Speaker 5 (39:55):
No, really, Well, there you go.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
That's that's one reason I never lost for that job,
one of many reasons. Because I like talking about what
I talk about. I wish I could talk about more
stuff that I prefer. I wish we could talk about
Premier League soccer. I wish we have to talk about
the Steelers like they're a goddamn drug addiction.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
But this is the time I live in and this
is the business I've chosen. Thank you for the call.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
The Pittsburgh River Hans soccer team and their USL regular
season tomorrow night at Highmark Stadium against Phoenix. The Hans
trying to get a home playoff game. Joining us now
is the River Hanks. Fine goalkeeper Eric dick Up.

Speaker 10 (40:34):
Eric.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
The Hans go into the game tomorrow and I having
won four of their last five. What's caused this one
of good results to end the season. The timing's pretty good,
isn't it.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
Yeah. I mean that's what you always want to do.
You want to be peeking towards the end of the year.
And I think, honestly, it's just we're doing the little
things during the game to just find results. Whether it's
a grind it out game or you know, we take
it to them and we get a lot of goals.
It's whatever it takes to get wins. At this point
of the year.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
Well, the Hawns have had a very good defensive record
all year, but lately are scoring more goals. You have
a pretty good view in the back, the whole field
in front of you. What has caused this surge in
the goal scoring?

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Yeah, I mean I think it's always been there. I
think we've always had the talent and the players, and
I think we've just missed opportunities all year long, and
now it's starting to click and we're gaining confidence going
forward and as a group, I think, you know, a
good defense leads to a good offense. So I think
we've been very sound defensively. That leads to more possession,
that leads to higher up possession up the field, and

(41:39):
more chances and more opportunities because of it. And we've
just you know, put the ball in the back of
the net.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
And that's a good keeper, Eric, I'm sure you don't
mind a few more opportunities that either end. I mean,
sometimes you got to risk it to get the biscuit,
but that's fine by you, right, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
I mean, well, I mean, let's be honest. I obviously
I wouldn't be a goalie if I didn't love it
can save. But at this this stage, you know, the
best game is sort of when I don't even have
to touch the ball because it's it means everybody else
is doing their job. And and I'm moving pieces around
like the like a chess board almost. And you know,
I if we can score one, two, three goals and

(42:16):
and and knock out the knock out the game, I mean,
it's great. But I'm always ready to do my part
whenever called upon.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
Now, in your second season with the River Hans, and
you've posted ten plus shutouts in both years, a club record.
You have twenty five shutouts total. How have you done
so well? And do you think these two years in
Pittsburgh have been the best stretch of your career.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Yeah, I mean I've just I've had a lot of
good players in front of me. As I've said, I mean,
it's it's our scheme is a is a very good
defensive scheme, and so it makes my job easier to
have defenders, midfielders and forwards defending from the front back.
And you know, I've had an amazing coach in John
Bush the past two years that has helped me. Oh,

(43:00):
I've had a great goalkeeper unit, and we push ourselves
every year, uh and every every week just to be
ready for the game, and I've just tried to do
the simple things that the team needs. And uh I,
I mean this is the first stretch really in my
career where I've had the opportunity to consistently get games,
and it's brought about some challenges and brought about some

(43:22):
some ups and downs, but I'm just thankful for it
all and just trying to do my part so we
can end the season on a high note.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Well, what would you define as your biggest strength?

Speaker 10 (43:33):
There?

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Can goal? What do it makes you a good keeper?

Speaker 3 (43:37):
Yeah? I mean, I I think I've always good at
stopping the stopping the ball, you know, I think that's
my bread and butter is. I think I'm a good
shot stopper. Being taller, I think I have a good
uh physical and vocal presence and coming out for crosses
and just you know, owning the box in in in
the eighteen and making it hard on people to score.

(43:59):
And I think, you know, I try to just work
on every aspect of it. But yeah, I'd say those
are my calling cards if you were going to break
those down.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
What can help the River Hawns do better in the
playoffs this year? Because that single elimination format in soccer.
I think it's very tough and and the river Hans
have had kind of a dicey postseason history.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
Yeah yeah, and we want to change that. You know,
I I think I think we Riverhounds have done amazing
making playoffs. I don't know how many years now in
a row, but eight years, that's what I thought it was.
I thought it was eight. But you know, the goal
is obviously larger than that. The making playoffs is step one,

(44:42):
and so we have to find it in ourselves to
just take it to another level. We're doing really well
right now, but we can still clean up some stuff
and play even better soccer. And you know, I truly
think we all believe that we've been in every single
game this year and when we're on like, we're gonna
be some someone's worst nightmare because we're gonna be a

(45:03):
tough team to break down and and we're gonna take
advantage of opportunities. So hopefully we can just you know,
finish the regular season the right way and when playoffs come,
we just got to stay focused and do what we've
been doing these these past couple weeks and just fine
tuning things and keep the foot on the gas for
the full ninety minutes because it could be the last

(45:23):
ninety minutes that we played. So there's no reason to
leave anything not on the field.

Speaker 10 (45:28):
Now.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
Tomorrow night in high MARKUS Fan Appreciation Night, probably another sellout.
There's been plenty of those this year. It's really been
a great home support this year, a high Mark, hasn't it.

Speaker 3 (45:39):
I've yeah, I mean it is surreal walking out to
the field warm ups, even at halftime for the start
of the second half, and and just seeing everybody lowed
and just so supportive. And they really we really couldn't
do it without them, and they've they've kept us in games.
They've they've taken us over the finish line a couple

(45:59):
of times, and they've stuck behind us through the ups
and downs. And so the Pittsburgh faithful are or we
need them tomorrow night, and we know they're gonna show up,
and I know we all want another win and we
all want a home playoff game. So that's that's the
goal for tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (46:17):
Now, uh in that vein Eric, your last name gives
itself to some provocative fan chance at home without repeating them.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
You must get a kick out of that. It's pretty funny.

Speaker 7 (46:27):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
Yeah, to be honest with you, I haven't. I haven't heard
anything that blatant in my eight years of playing soccer.
But man, it just cracks me up. And it's just love,
you know, I know, I know, it's just it's it's
just I'm I'm very thankful to have the support and

(46:48):
you know, I do whatever I can to make them
proud and do the work on the field and hearing
their cheers and everything. As with any athlete and fans
are rooting for you, it just gives you an extra
edge and more momentum and desire. So yes, it is. Uh,

(47:09):
it is a fun group back there and I'm honored
uh to be a part of that.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
Eric, great stuff. I appreciate taking the time and good
luck tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (47:19):
Thank you very much, appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
That's Eric Dick who used the term edge just now.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
