Speaker 1 (00:11):
My guess right now is a three time Stanley Cup champion,
a six time international gold medalist, has had a point
per game for a record twenty straight seasons, and right now,
most important, his team is one and zero. There is
only one world, There is only one world's best hockey player.
There is only one Sidney Crosby. So you win three
(00:32):
nothing you want to know? And it was pretty concise
and buttoned up last night. What was good about that win?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Sid?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I think we were just I thought we were pretty organized.
You know, coming off of training camp and playing your
first game, you expected to be a little choppy, but
I thought, you know, our structure was pretty good in
all three zones and you know, everybody contributed every line.
I thought cherry play at certain points, came up with
some big defensive plays when we needed them, and goaltending
(01:02):
was really solid. So I just thought it was just
a solid effort all the way through.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
What's it like for you in your twenty first season
to have all those kids in the room you sit
between Kindle and cloyvenin.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
What's that do for your energy? Because you were that
kid once?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, I think it helps. I mean, you know, you
see how hungry those guys are and you know that. Yeah,
I think that youth energy is important. You know, the
competition for spots. I think that's something that can help
and push a group. But yeah, I think yeah, as
a young guy in that position, I remember wanting to
(01:40):
bring that and you can see that that's something that
naturally that they have though too, just because there is
a lot that's new, They're hungry and they want to
prove themselves, so that can definitely help the team.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
How do the kids treat you? Like in the room?
Do they treat you like you're made of glass? Are
they over that?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Uh? It depends. I think that the more you get
to know them, the better I think the more it's
like like any teammate, you know, whether they're younger or
it's a new teammate, I think, Uh, you know, it
always takes a little bit to build that comfort level.
And when you've played with guys for a really long time,
that's why it's it's Uh, it's something that is so
(02:21):
unique because you build that over time. You have that
trust and belief and and that comfort level. So that's
something that just comes with time, I think. But yeah,
there's always a bit of a feeling no process there.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Hoven and do on your wing last night. I feel
like he has a little bit of Jake potential.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, he sees the ice really well. He can make
little plays given goes. He had a great chance there
in the second he made a nice play on the
goalie and just hit the post. He's come really close
a bunch of times, so I would expect him to
put one in here pretty soon. He's been all around
it and and like you said, he's got really good
hockey sense, and that was something that that gainst Kansas,
(03:01):
you know, he was so so smart and not the
biggest guy, but goes to tough areas and a lot
of similarities there.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Does Clevenan watch the iPad with you between shifts? I
wish I could get downe there, I'd watch the iPad.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah. I try to stay away from the iPad as
much as possible that the odd time will take a
peek at it and try to go over things, try
to fast track that learning curve. But for the most part,
you know, playing with them last year and a little
bit through camp that helps too. So it's been pretty good.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
What about Bruni and Kindle, I can't believe watched them
last night and in camp that they're nineteen and eighteen.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, I mean just the poise that they both have.
They skate really well. I think that's probably the biggest
thing that allows them just to make plays and probably
to be confident and comfortable just with the speed just
because of their own skating ability and just buys them
that extra second to make plays and gets them out
(04:04):
of trouble. You know, Bruno skateing himself out of trouble
a couple of times. He made some really good, good
plays in the offensive zone. You know. I thought Kenny
was really good as the game went on to even
just taking pucks of the net and being more assertive.
And he played, you know, a bunch of preseason games too,
so I think that that probably helps with his confidence.
But you know, they had a really good camp and
(04:26):
just kind of kept it going into the last night's game.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Now, you didn't have a point last night, and I'm
sure you're not panicked about that, but your two hundred
foot game was very evident, like always. Is that the
toughest thing to maintain after twenty seasons to play the
whole rink all the time.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I don't know. I think you realized over time that
you know, playing good defensively will eventually lead to offense.
So some nights it might not feel like that, but
I think you know, the goal is to get out
of your own zone as quick as possible and create offense.
So if you're defensively, hopefully that that leads to either
quick odd man rushas or gets you out of there
(05:04):
quick and can use your energy trying to trying to
score goals and try to defend them. But yeah, I
think just you know, trying to focus on especially as
a centerman, that's that's part of your responsibility. So it's
not something you really try to get away from. It's
it's part of the game, and it's part of something
that you know, I've tried to do, you know, for
(05:25):
a long time. So I don't think I don't think
it's any harder. I think you just it's just something
that you really have to continue to tingrain the details
and make sure that you know you're stopping on pucks
and in the right spots and then hopefully that leads
offense as well.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Short short term answer here, but what's it been like
playing for Dan Mues, your first new head coach?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
In almost ten years.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
It's been good. You know, he's really passionate. I thought, uh,
during camp, it was really organized as far as what
we wanted to go over, and you know, trying to
hit so much, it's not easy. It seems like a
long time, but it's really not with so many, so
many players, and you have all those preseason games with
different lineups, so it's not easy, you know, trying to
(06:12):
get everyone on the same page necessarily, and and go
through all that in a short period of time. And
I thought he did a really good job with that.
I thought there's a lot of competition and and the
skates were good. So it carried over into Game one
and hopefully we can just keep getting better with each game.
But he's been he's been really good.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Do you really hate change like I think you do?
Or do I overthink that.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
No, I don't think I hate change. I think like
you have to evolve. I mean, you have to be
able to just and adapt. And I would say like change,
just a change probably bothers me sometimes I think that,
you know, there's there's got to be purpose for it.
But yeah, I think that it just it really depends on.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
What it is.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
But I wouldn't say I'm against it. I think it's
just it's just more about you know, making sure that
there's a purpose and and you know, if it's not broke,
don't fix it. But you've got to evolve and you've
got to adapt. So that's that's part of the two.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
We're talking to Sydney Cosby here on the X. This
is season number twenty together for you, Gino and Tanger,
which is unheard of in modern sports.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
What makes that special?
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Oh, so many things. I mean just I think the
time itself, that's a that's a long time, and you
know nowadays, with so much movement and turnover, it's it's
so rare. So I think just the time itself, but
also what makes up that twenty years. I mean, we've
been in so many different circumstances, you know, as a
(07:46):
team individually, we've we've been through a lot. And you
know that's that's been you know, one consistency through it
all is just being teammates and being there for each
other and being able to experience so many things. So that's, uh,
you know, that's a pretty cool thing to be a
part of.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
It was also special when Mark Andre Fourry came back
for the curtain call in that exhibition game, wasn't it?
And I bet as far as you guys are concerned,
we didn't see the best stuff.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know, you probably saw most
of it. It's hard. It's hard now everything you know,
they get everything now. But I just thought it was
so nice. You know, I played in at the Worlds
and we lost to Denmark, and I thought that was
going to be his last game, so to speak. And
you know, for him to be able to come to Pittsburgh,
(08:37):
have a couple of days, you know, really you know,
soak it in and then have the response and the
ovation from the crowd and the turnout there that was
that was so special. Really the the perfect way to
be able to draw it up. So he's really happy
with the way that everything worked out and just just
really happy for him. He deserves it and it couldn't
(08:59):
have really been any better. So it was really cool
that we could be we could be a part of
that too.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Now on the negative side, he vandalized your car. I mean,
if you fix that, taking the decal off the twenty.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Nine Yeah, yeah, it took me a bit. That was
actually I think he took it easy on us.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
I thought that too.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Actually, I've seen some of his work. Oh yeah, some
of his work, so I think he took it easy, honest.
But I will say he didn't have a lot of
time to scheme up stuff. So you know that was
that was well done by him. But it will it
will continue, so we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Now, one are your goals now, and let me cut
you off. I know you're going to say to win,
and it's true. I believe you, I know you, but
come on, passing Mario stats maybe two thousand points sid,
they're going to give you a statue.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
You've got to think about some of that stuff.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
No, I don't. Actually, I'm being honest with you. That's
that's not even on my mind. Yeah, I just you know,
I love to play, I think even at this I
love to learn. I love to to compete and get better,
So I don't I don't think too much long term.
I like to kind of stay in the present. And
(10:09):
uh yeah, I mean I'm aware of Mario's numbers, but
that's not I don't think that's what's motivating me every day.
So yeah, hopefully, you know, hopefully to that point. But yeah,
I try not to think too far ahead. That's just
always the way I've approached it.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
We know, one thing that motivates you, you want to
win a gold medal for Canada at the Milan Olympics
coming up. I imagine that's made even more fun by
Canada's young guys because I forget who said it, but
they were all fans of you growing up.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah, it's a really it's a really cool group. I mean,
we've got a few guys who have been there. You know,
Drew Dowdy was there in Vancouver, so it was you know,
there's a wide range, and with missing a couple, I
think just the hunger to want to be in it,
just the excitement enthusiasm around it is probably at an
(11:01):
all time high because the fact that we we missed
a couple and then you look at four Nations and
how that ended up, and just the level of play
and and just the brand of hockey and the intensity
that that was there. I think that that everyone even
more excited. So it's just kind of it's grown and
and I think with it getting closer and closer, just
(11:23):
the level of hockey and representing your country and everything
that comes with the Olympics itself. Yeah, I just think
it's amazing hockey and everybody just gets really excited for it.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Is it different too, because I'm not saying you guys
are the underdog, but I feel like you in the
in the US are neck and neck.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Yeah, I mean you could throw some other teams in
there too. I just think the countries are so close now,
and in one game anything can happen. So definitely, you
know with four nations and how close those games were
and how that went. Yeah, you look at international hockey.
You know, we we lost in the quarters at the
(12:03):
World's but it's, uh, it's become everyone's become so much
closer and and in one game, who knows. So I
think that, you know, everybody's got to be at their best.
And you look at the teams, they're all they're all
so skilled and and deep. So that's that's what makes
it so special though. It's just seeing that amount of
(12:24):
talent and uh, and the product that's on the ice
is is as good as you're going to see?
Speaker 1 (12:29):
How far away are the Penguins from being as good
as you want? Are you encouraged by the direction?
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah? I mean, you know, like I said, individually. I
don't look too far ahead as a team. I think
you're just looking to try to try to continue to
get better and and uh, you know, we we go
to every night to try to win games. But you know,
as as you're seeing, there's some younger players, So I
think there's guys that are trying to prove that they're
(12:57):
you know, their NHL players. You know, every single day,
they're trying to prove that they belong. And I think
that's that's healthy. I think, you know, coming off of
a really good preseason, I think that built some confidence
as far as the trajector trajectory, though I don't I
don't know. I mean, I think there's a lot of
teams probably asking themselves the same question. I don't think that,
(13:19):
uh you know, we're the only ones, but it's hard
to forecast. I think you just you try to get better,
You try to learn, and and try to accelerate that
that learning curve as best you can. But hopefully the
mix of having guys who have been there for a
long time and and can you know, bring some experience
and and add that way, and then some youthful some
(13:39):
youthful energy, some some young some young guys who are
eager and want to learn, and and I want to
show that they belong. Hopefully that combination is something that
that can help us along.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
I know you hate the trade talk, and we both
know that the best way to shut it down is
for you guys to win.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Don't you feel that way?
Speaker 3 (13:59):
It's a yeah, you're right, I mean yeah, winning just
just has a way of curing curing all. So yeah,
there's nothing more than I'd love is just to you know,
to keep keep getting wins and not have to worry
about even you know, going into that discussion.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
You know you've become a really good interview. Do you
remember the first time we talked our our buddy the
Riz brought you down to that restaurant at the hotel across.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
The street from the arena, steel Head.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
The Steelhead, right, you were eighteen years old, your parents
were there.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
It was just Dawston. Do you remember that at all?
Speaker 5 (14:32):
I do.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
It was packed too, I remember it was. It was
packed in there and you had to set up I
think in one of the corners right right, yeah, yeah, no,
it was right. It was right across the street from
the Melons. So yeah, I remember, I remember that for sure, well, of.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Course it was packed. Sidney Crossby just got to town.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
In closing, as always, I ask are you married and engaged?
Speaker 4 (14:55):
They're going to be a father soon.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Nothing new up to you there.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Someday we're gonna break news.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
I swear to God, Sid, As always, it's a it's
a pleasure having you on.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Good job last night. We'll see it at the opener
tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (15:09):

Speaker 4 (15:32):
That was great. That might have been the best city
interview I've ever done.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
An honor to have sid on the show, I pointed
out on Twitter by way of gloating, but but also
by way of my appreciation. Sid's only done live radio
in Pittsburgh with me, same with Mario and Troy Pulambo.
And I can't think of three classier guys. Does any
of that class reflect on me? I'd like to think so,
(15:56):
but probably not. And I remember Bell clear. There's a
picture online somewhere. I wish I could find it. Maybe
I can look hard and find it. My friend for
years d Rizzo, who uh works for Pat Persona and
JP Barry. He recruits young players and their families and
then kind of serves as an aid de camp to
(16:16):
them once they get to the league. Well, Riz is
Sid's god and he recruited Sid. He's known him since
he was like I think fourteen or fifteen. And when
Sid came to town for the first time, Riz picked
him up at the airports and brought him straight to
the Steel had to come on my show even before
they went to the Penguin's offices. And that's the first
(16:40):
time I met Sid. His mom and dad were there,
who were just lovely people. Troy and trin him, big crowd.
It was just it was incredible, an incredible scene. And
here we are, all those years later, still doing interviews
and it's still a lot of fun.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Eight three, three, four one two w XDX give.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
It a call nowt We got bugsy malone in just

Speaker 4 (17:04):
A couple of quick football notes.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
The word out of Cleveland is that despite Joe Flacco
being traded, that they're gonna make Bailey Zappi the journeyman guy,
the number two quarterback for the game of Pittsburgh Sunday
and Shadoor still inactive, well you know, number three quarterback,
that sort of thing. I can't imagine that Mom and
pop and Ma and pas.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Shador are gonna take that silently.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
And I can't believe the owner would want that, because
he wants Shador on the field.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
He's the guy that drafted him.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Also, the word is said Flacco is learning the offense
in the car they sent to pick him up at
the airport at Cincinnati whenever. That was the day he
got traded, and he's going to start against Green Bay.
Gonna throw him right in there. So Jake Browning, thanks
for stopping by. And here's a great comparison for that
(17:57):
really bad situation at North Carolina with Bill Belichick coaching
where where Finebaum said he's the worst coach in college
history right now and should be fired right now. And
as I mentioned earlier, I don't think that's an exaggeration.
I absolutely agree. Albert Briers Sports Illustrated said that Belichick
at North Carolina reminds him of Urban Meyer in the
(18:19):
NFL with Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
Yikes.
Speaker 1 (18:24):

Penguins with a good opening night win at Madison Square
Garden last night, joining me now former player for the Penguin.
You see him doing analysis on sports and at Pittsburgh.
Always a pleasure to talk to our guy, Ryan Malone Bugsy.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
I liked the win last night. I liked the youth.
What were your impressions of that game in general?
Speaker 11 (21:27):
I loved it. I mean, I'm trying to think off
the top of my head. I don't know how many
odd Man rushes they gave up defensively. You had the
mix the young guys playing, even at the end of
the game, there, you know, the coach showing trust and
those guys I've had Jones even the defenseman had a
great few shifts at the end there blocking shotsk and shoelings,
and offensively you have Neo Malkins line. Really you know,
(21:51):
I think dictating the pace with her their body size,
winning their battles, you know, Manta, that's not with his
hockey IQ, you know, giving the opportunity of these guys
have playing with obviously you know the veteran leaders there
with Gino and Sid, it's a great mix that you know,
really you have to really tit the hat to the
brass and the coaching staff there for putting that team
(22:13):
together and playing that way so early in the semeone.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Yeah, I like how they look. Certainly for sixty minutes.
What's it like for the veterans, they have so many
kids in the room. That energy drips down, doesn't it.
Speaker 11 (22:25):
Oh, definitely, I think. I mean again, I think those
guys enjoy it every day and that's why they got
two decades of experience. So when you bring that youth
in there, especially the eighteen year old as we all know,
to be able to play in those games, they have
that opportunity is great, So I think again it's a
good mix. Even the fourth line, a lot of the
(22:47):
guys are back the Lazatte you know, guys start on
and bought the chari guys hard to play against. And
I thought, up and down the lineup, it was a
real balance attack. Everyone kind of did their job. Was
really fun game to watch.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
What did you make a Geno playing between the two
six foot five wings man fur And and Brawsers, all
of them six foot five. It's a huge line. It's
a different look. Maybe it works.
Speaker 11 (23:12):
Yeah, I know. I mean when I was, you know,
fortunate to play with him, it's great for for me.
It was kind of give him the pocke. He likes
to be very creative and create space and our our
you know, the wingers job is just to kind of
make sure he has more time to make good decisions
and plays. And I think both those guys showed uh
(23:33):
that hockey iq to get open and you know, Gino's
gonna find you and they can use that big body
just to get on the right side of defenceman and
they're gonna be able to hold on to pucks and
generate a lot of offense when they're working together like that.
It was really uh exciting to watch.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Now, Sid didn't have a point, but I thought his
two hundred foot game was absolutely incredible. I always say, Bugsy,
when you can see a guy play well off the
puck on network team, which is a limited feed, he's
really done a job. And him still playing that way
after twenty seasons, that's incredible.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
He never stops, no, And.
Speaker 11 (24:08):
That's where I mean, I don't know, there's probably not
enough words. We always keep coming up with fidth and
how impressive he is, but again, this is just his
character to play the right way, especially at the end
of the game there in the third you know, there
wasn't taking any unnecessary risks or getting on the offensive
side of the pucker, cheating just to get points. You know,
he's on the d side of the buck. He's like, Hey,
(24:29):
if we have to win one nothing, we're gonna win.
And I know everybody's writting them off already this year,
so you know that's a little extra fire in him
as well to get this team in the playoffs. And
you know we all know knowing what happens in there,
so even stills still ovs am I saying that right
the goalie. Yes, ah, did Drake on his all his shots?
(24:55):
And again there wasn't that too many grade eight chances,
which is a compliment to that everyone in front of him.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
You made a great point.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
I don't remember one clear cut what I call a
long odd man break where they just you know, had
a three on two that lasted for miles and uh,
you got to get a shill off's credit though twenty
five saves got to zero. Were you surprised, Bugsy that
he started ahead of Jari? Was that the new coach
maybe sending a message, not the Jari but to the
room that there's change afoot.
Speaker 11 (25:24):
Yeah, I don't think, you know, I think you know,
both goalies have been great out but I think he was,
you know, battle tested in the American League there they
won down there, so once you know, pressure is on
the line, he's performed. And I think the whole coaching staff,
you know, coming in this year is kind of whole
fresh news start and culture buying mentality. And again, I
(25:45):
think you know what we both just said there we
didn't see too many odd man or grade eight chances
were last year at the be in the year, you're like, Okay,
the guys still kind of playing summer hockey, still giving
up a lot of chances they'll get into it, but
you know, I think they're definitely more focused, and I
think that's where you got to set the half of
the coaching staff and the leadership in the room. Now.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
I want to get back to a few of the
young guys, specifically Bugsy, what did you think of brunic
Kindle and Cloyven with two of them playing their first
NHL games, which is quite an emotional situation.
Speaker 11 (26:19):
Yeah, I mean, I think you just kind of get
out there and do your best right, and that's where
sometimes you think you got to do more than what
you're even capable of. But at the end of the day,
you just look yourself in the mirror and you realize,
like that confidence in the game style that you've played
got you in the lineup starting, you know, in Madison
(26:40):
Square Gardens. So to be able to play your first
NHL game, your dream is coming true. Now you can really,
you know, grow and work on those little intangibles that
will help you contribute to the team.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
When you first started, what was the toughest adjustment for you?
Everybody says the speed, and I'm sure that's true. Go
beyond that.
Speaker 11 (27:00):
I would say speed, just the strength of all the players.
You know, there's not many you're playing against grilling men,
and you know those men are trying to feed their
families at the end of the day. Uh, so they're
going to run you over. They're gonna run you over.
And uh, I think that was the big thing, the
speed and strength of everyone. I know as a younger,
(27:20):
you know, players still developing, it is important to get
in that uh you know, weight room when you can,
and that's where sometimes you see those guys, usually out
of college, are a little more developed and have that
easier opportunity to make that shift. But again, I think
it's that strength and speed of you know, your opponents
(27:40):
that you're playing against. There's no uh, there's no easy,
easy uh one on one battles out there.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
We're talking to Buggsy Malone here on the X. Going
kind of off script here. Did you see mc kenna
play at all for Penn State. I think he made
so the right decision, uh, going from major junior to
college hockey. And I think you could have tested that
because you played at Saint Clatt's State.
Speaker 11 (28:02):
Uh. Yeah, First of all, you ever on script.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
That's a good point. It's a good point. You got
me there, Bugsy.
Speaker 11 (28:10):
But yeah, I think it's great. It's great for state again.
You know, the Western PA hockey is growing and it's
just highlighting a called hockey new for players development. Like
I said, that schedule and call, you do have more
time to get in the gym and get stronger. That
was a big bonus for myself in four years at
(28:31):
Saint Cloud compared to major junior uh cold guys like
seventy eighty games, but they wan't that familiar weight room
in that process. It's great guys now that have that
opportunity to go to college and even make some cash.
Why not.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, seven hundred k for McKenna at at Penn State.
I'm sure you didn't get quite that at Saint Clotte
State back when no one guy I want to praise
and I don't want to sound like I'm knocking him
at the same time.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
I praise it.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
But I thought Eric Carlson last night played the most
structurally fundamentally sound game I've seen him play as a penguin,
and maybe that says something about muse.
Speaker 11 (29:11):
Yeah, I think you know again, he's get everyone to
buy in sometimes with those guys, I think early on
they're so skilled and can change games at any moment.
We try to do too much right for everyone and
realizing sometimes like hey, just your little part, make these
simple plays and be effective. And then if you have
more consistency that way, when you're not trying to do
(29:34):
too much or you know, pass it through maybe certain
skates and make that hard pass. Just kind of make
the simple play, the high percentage play. And you know, again,
if all five guys and ice are buying defensively be
on the right side of the puck, it's it's, you know,
a team mentality that's gonna be very frustrating for the
other team. So again I think up and down the lineup,
(29:56):
everyone played played great there at the MSG.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
What has to happen for the Penguins to beat the
odds and beat the talk and be a playoff team?
Speaker 11 (30:07):
I mean, I mean the ad you know me enough.
I feel like, obviously we can look at teams and
the depths and that's rooms they haven't experienced. But at
the end of the day, it's at the locker room
buying into a certain system and style they want to play,
and how five guys are on the ice and there's
not a lot of room on the ice to make
(30:28):
the places. And if you got a goalie back there, uh,
you know that can make those. Uh most of these days,
you're always gonna do it every night. And you look,
there wasn't too many power plays. But I know that's
another key for the Penguins that will help them get
in the plut. They're gonna be at the five power unit.
(30:50):
I will have the chances of getting in this year.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Bugs. I got an update.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
You got to pass along to your dad, Greg, who
played for the Penguins. Last time I saw you, you
had the boys who were great and your dad was
with you, and I gave you and the boys those
fifty years no Cup shirts about the Flyers having not
won in fifty years. I didn't have your dad's size.
Tell him it's in. Next time I see him. He's
all set because I know if anyone deserves one, it's
him too.
Speaker 11 (31:15):
Yeah, definitely, it was great. Great seeing my kids. Had
a good laugh about they've been wearing up in Minnesota there.
But yeah, I was a great seeing you. I know
my dad might even me listening to your shows. Listen,
so I'll let the original Bugby know you got them
covered as usual.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Tell O G O B to come and get it.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
By the way, the segment that SID featured was brought
to us by eighty four number Dynasty partner the Pitsburgh Steelers.
UH This same were brought to us by People's Natural
Gas Save Reliable Natural Gas Energy, People's hyphengas dot Com
call in now eight three three four one nine thirty
(32:54):
nine eight three three four one two ninety nine thirty nine,
or like I said, leave a talk back at.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
The I Heart Media app.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
You know, one thing I really was thinking about during
the breaks because I have a big ego. You guys
all know that sometimes I'm humbling my ego though, if
that makes any sense, And you know, thinking about the
Sid interview and having been the only local radio guy
to have Sid and Mario and Troy live, and just
all the stuff we've talked about, all the guests we've had,
all the kind of crazy stuff like Johnny Rotten on
(33:26):
the show and a great interview with him and all
the rock stars and back in the day the porn
girls and scrippers. This show really is absolutely a friggin'
Pittsburgh sports all time phenomenon.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
It is for thirty years to.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Be number one, and I think it's even a bigger
deal than I've realized. And I all of that to me,
not you, but to me, because I've done it and
I knew I could.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
You know what We're going to talk to a lot
probably tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
That situation in Arizona where the running back de Marcado
the gated his own seventy two yard touchdown by dropping
the ball, trying to be cool, dropping it just inside
the goal line, dropped it just outside the goal line.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
The gate of the touchdown.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
The coach flipped out on him on the sideline, kind
of shoved them, and the coach got fined one hundred
and k by the team. But the player who fumbled
the ball and lost the game didn't get fined. And
that's why sports are fed up, and that's why these
guys are absolute douchebags. The Arizona just turned control of
(34:32):
the franchise over to the players.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
They cut their coach's nuts off.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Not to be critical. Let's go out of our good friend.
He's on the road. He is the Hebrew Hammer.
Speaker 12 (34:44):
Are you like Jack Kerouac, Yeah, something like that.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
Mark yamas.
Speaker 12 (34:53):
Hey, Today is National progy Day, and my question to
you is do you like proguys?
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Is there a certain type of prog like I do
like parogis, but there's one certain kind I like most.
There's somebody don't like the plain cheese parogy. I don't
like those, do you they're too plain.
Speaker 12 (35:11):
Oh they're good, but there are better ones.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
The plain cheese, the plain potato, the best Prog's ever.
I don't know if they still make them. The Church
brew Works in Lawrenceville, swear to God used to rattlesnake
perogis and they were delicious.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (35:27):
I mean that's really outside the box. I haven't been
there in years. There's cottage cheese, pro ge there're sour
crowd pro geese. I mean they're all pretty good by me.
Anyone's with like jalapeno or something, they're always pretty tasty.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Oh you know, yet not to mention that, Like it
depends on the cheese. I had a cheddar and jalapeno
parogi once.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
It was real good.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (35:49):
There was a place in another place in Lawrenceville and
they had anaconda.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
You made that up right now, inn't you. I'm looking
at the menu. That's your cue whammy. Let's go to Matthew. Matthew,
ask Mark anything, Mark?
Speaker 2 (36:08):
What up?
Speaker 6 (36:09):
What up?
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Mine?
Speaker 13 (36:12):
I wanted to get your thoughts on the new drummer
for Rush, who is a female. My initial thought was,
this joke's been made elsewhere. This is a way to
guarantee at least one woman would attend all future Rush concerts.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
No, I don't think that's true at all, but it's
not unfunny. No, bro, here's the thing I've never heard
of her. I'll be blunt. She must be great if
they picked her to fill Neil Pairt's drums seat, because
everything she does will be incredibly scrutinized. That said, I
think being a woman, and people won't like this, but
(36:49):
I think she's less likely to be criticized if she's
not as good as hoped.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah, that makes sense.
Speaker 13 (36:56):
I mean if you watch did you see the video
where they announced, you know, Getty Lee and Alex right
that they were touring again. They said that she came
with the recommendation of Jeff Beck For what.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
That's forth good enough for me. I'm sure she's great.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Did you see they added like six tour dates, but
all in the same cities. They're like playing four shows each,
I think in five of the cities, like New York, Dallas, Chicago,
of course Toronto. I think they added one more show
in Cleveland for locals who want to drive up there.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Yeah, I did see that.
Speaker 13 (37:34):
The other crazy thing they said, which I thought was
interesting is that they're going to have a keyboard player,
so I guess that relieves Lee of doing the bass
and singing and playing the pedals at the same.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
I think they're gonna have a rhythm guitar player too,
And that's the Rolling Stones formula. When you get older,
you can only do so much, So get more people
up there, and I have no problem with it.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Thank you for the call. Let's go to Dave. Dave
ask Mark anything.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Hey, what I'm mean?
Speaker 4 (38:04):
What I mine?
Speaker 3 (38:06):
So?
Speaker 12 (38:07):
I'm sure you know that the MLB players Union's contract
coming up by Leupkin the next year. Do you think
there's anything that could happen.
Speaker 11 (38:14):
During these negotiations that might make that future of Pastburgh
a little brighter?
Speaker 4 (38:18):
No?
Speaker 1 (38:19):
I mean, even if they got a salary cap that
would cause everyone to rejoice. A salary cap wouldn't force
Nutting to fix it. He would just spend to the floor.
The absolute lowest he could pay is what he's gonna pay.
So while it will shut down, close down, narrow is
the best word to say. It will narrow the payroll
disparity between the great teams and Nuttings pirates, it will
(38:42):
not narrow it enough because he won't let it. I mean,
the one good thing about the cap is at that
point it would it would be undeniably one hundred.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Percent his fault for not spending enough. If he just
spends to that floor. Thank you for the call.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
It's pretty much let's go.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
To a talkback.
Speaker 5 (39:01):
Does everyone ride Lamar's jack? Oh, he has some good stats. Oh,
but they don't include his fumbles and his QB rating.
What's another problem. Oh yeah, he's never beat a good
team when it counted.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
I'm not sure if you were pro Lamar or anti Lamar.
That's one of the worst talkbacks we've ever got. Lamar's great,
He's been an MVP. Look at his numbers. He's great,
I can't. I mean, every football player has nobody's perfect.
And he does fumble some, but he runs more and
he gains more, and he scores more and he does more.
(39:39):
Like you know, even the greatest football players have some
flaw And with so many stats now you're able to
prove anything you want.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Really, But I'm a Lamar guy. I think he's.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Brilliant, and I think they need him back, and I
think they need this. I think the Steelers need him
to not be back, Let's go to other talkback.
Speaker 9 (40:00):
Hey Mark, another great interview with said.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
As always, thank you.
Speaker 13 (40:03):
Question what athlete in the past would you have liked
to have interviewed that you never had before.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
That's a good question because most of my bucket list
interviews are rock stars like Nikki Six, you know, Robert Plant,
Jimmy Page, the more obvious ones. I'd really liked the
interview six though, because I think I think for like
a dirt bag rockstar who grew up tough, he's become
very intelligent. I don't want to say refine, but I
(40:35):
think he's a very complete human being.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
You know, writes books, is an accomplished photographer.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
I mean, who would have thought that, like in nineteen
eighty four when he was setting himself on fire on stage.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Would have liked to have.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Interviewed Ozzy Glad I met Ozzie, But athlete, you.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
Know, I like the interview right now.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
The first sporting event I ever covered and got paid
for was Central Catholic High School football in North Alleghany
High School football and Dan.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Marino was the quarterback. How about that first start? I
would really like to interview Dan Marino.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
I know, if he's Numero, Uno, Gretzky, Gretzky, because then
I could say I interviewed Gretzky or and Lemieux. I
met Gordi Han ever interviewed him. I've obviously just now
interviewed Sid. So there's probably your top five players.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
I've met Ov he never interviewed him.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
But h yeah, Dan Marino. I would find interesting Dan
Reno now all these years later, and to maybe bring
up that Central Catholic game and let's get Dan Marino
on the show. Somebody remember that and get it done
up next. I should have put de Marcado on the
list the running back in Arizona. Maybe I did that yesterday.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
I forget. I have no idea my memory. Wow, shot
