Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the Mark Mannon show. You like it, you
love it, you want more of it. You can follow
me on Twitter at Mark Madden X. We're gonna talk Stillers,
but I'd rather talk Penguins. They're tied for the most
points in the Eastern Conference. I know it's only eight
(00:21):
games in, but I did not see this coming. I'm
not sure I see it continuing, but it sure is
fun now. The Penguins are one of the NHL's top
stories right now. Gino twelve points in eight games. Sid
eleven points in eight games, six goals, including two goals
(00:42):
last night.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
The old firm.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Whenever Florida pulled coast last night, the Penguins scored right
away to open back up a two goal lead. That
happened twice. That's what good teams do. I'm not saying
they're a good team, but that's what good teams do.
Penguins go out shot thirty seven sixteen. Jari made that
(01:08):
scorpion state line flat on his stomach.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
That was incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
After the game, we'll talk more about this later, but
the Penguins give out a construction helmet to their player
of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
There was a.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Picture of Sid wearing the construction level on Twitter. He
looked like one of the village people. I kept looking
for the biker. The La Chargers blasted Minnesota last night
on Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Thirty seven to ten.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
The Steelers visit the Chargers in two weeks, after green
Bay this week and Indy next week. Mike Pursuda of DV,
who has his finger on the pulse no doubt, he
says these three games will determine the Steelers season. I agree, Hey,
you think the Steelers are great, should be no problem, right,
(01:59):
just win the games. Great crowded Sharkis last night for
my Penguins watch party, had the NFL game on a
couple screens too, just to packed house. So really enjoying
doing those things, even more so with the Penguins playing well.
And don't forget how much celebrations and Imperial Sunday nights
to watch the Penguins at the Penguins. I wish the
(02:22):
Steelers hand the Green Bay Packers Penguins watch parties now
with a young, fresh team doing so good.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
They're just a joy.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
The Steelers when things go bad and it's stale from
the get go, like the Baton Death March, but we
have fun because we're drinking, and I'll be drinking at
celebrations Sunday night, believe you me, so please be there.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Gonna have a lot of fun. This NBA thing.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
How come nobody tells me when games are fixed? Prop
bets whatever, help a brother. I you know, if I
got toll the game was fixed, I wouldn't rat. I
would bet, no question. But this Benning skin, like this
Rosier guy. Dudes are flushing NBA paychecks to win chump
(03:15):
change by gambling.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Total idiotcy. But some people just like to grift.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
They just like that thrill the art of the steel, like,
for example, the Pirate's owner, our buddy, Logan Cooley with
three goals and an assist last night for Utah West
Mifflin's own Cole's got five goals in eight games. There
I am with the locker room nicknamed Coles. I hate
(03:43):
myself Utah six and dude, just like the Penguins. Logan Cooley,
twenty one years old, New World Order, Man, I love hockey.
By the way, those three goals for Koley natural hattie, hattie.
There I go again, hat trick, three consecutive goals and
scored in under five minutes.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Kid is a phenom.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
I'm serious about the Steelers showing they're not full of crap,
which I think they are and have been for quite
some time. But if they're not, just beat green Bay,
prove to me it's not the same old Stiller season.
It's difficult for me to analyze this game. My only
(04:31):
advice to the Steelers is, don't be full of crap.
If the Steelers do win, it's gonna be Aaron Rodgers
is doing. Oh here's some more advice for the Steelers.
Be prepared to score thirty points or you don't win. Heck,
(04:51):
maybe thirty five. How about forty? Better safe than sorry. Yeah,
I I think that green Bay, I mean green Bay's
favorite on the road for a reason, and they're my
preseason pick, you may recall to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
But Green Bay's been a little disappointing.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
We think the Steeler's been a lot disappointing because we
see the crap going on and it just as that
same old steel feel. But the Steelers, I mean four
and two, that's only a little disappointed. I thought they'd
be five and one. I thought they beat Cincinnati, so
they're they're one game worse. Green Based four to one
and one lost to Cleveland Clevelandius. Even the Steelers didn't
(05:36):
lose to Cleveland barely beat Arizona. Offense is okay, fourteenth ranked,
defense sixth ranked, and certainly they got some very good
players like Love, Jacobs and Parsons. Again, though the Steelers
at at four and two, they needed a sixty yard
field goal to beat the Jets at the death, and
(05:58):
the Jets are clearly the worst team in football. The
Steelers gonna have played badly at New England and Fluke
down Win got beat by Joe Flacco. So both these
teams on Sunday night need to answer some questions, need
to prove they're not full of crap. And if not
for Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers would be two and four
something like that. That's why he's my favorite Steeler. They're
(06:21):
lucky to be four and two. And here's something nobody
wants to like talk about it loud, but I bet
you agree.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I bet you agreed. What needs to do more? Watt's
killing him.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Forty one million paycheck and he's only had two good games.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Like I would.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Say, when you're making that kind of money out of
six games, how many great games?
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Should you play? I would say five.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Maybe it's the Mark Manx.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Doublem on the ex Brett michaels a poison in his
solo band, and Butler. He's actually playing a few songs
Sunday night at Acres Shore.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
At halftime at the Steeler game.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
That's a big deal for Brett, a big Steeler fan,
good friends with Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Brett's gonna join me at three point thirty to talk
about that.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Okay, I got a penguin's idea, because they're gonna keep
Bernican kindle. Berney got scratched last night, but the occasional
scratch for both guys is part of that. It's load management.
It's actually a giveaway that they're sticking around.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
My worry is that them winning this much early will
skew their priorities and put the emphasis too much on winning,
as ridiculous as that sounds with them currently being six
and two and tied for the most points in the
Eastern Conference. And my worry trickling down from that is
to the kid like Kendall plays on a third line
(08:07):
with guys like Tommy Novak and Philip Hollander and learns
to be a third liner like we talked about Alexey
Morosov back when. But Sin wants to play with Rust
and Riquel period, and I don't want Kindle to play
with Malkin. I just don't think that would work. So
put Kindle in center his proper position, really, and have
(08:29):
a line of Kindle between Conan and McGarty. When McGarty
returns from injury, I'll call up Tristan bros. In the meantime,
and obviously bring Coyvenon back. I can't believe he stayed
at Wilkes this long, So I would have Kindle Conon
and either McGroarty or bros. And have a kid line,
(08:50):
give him third line minutes, but let him play like
their top six in terms of style and approach. Let
him grow to and Kindle its center. I mean, that's
his position. So that's what I would do. Do I
think they will, No, I don't, but that's what I
would do. I think Kindle in terms of being like
(09:12):
a really solid second line center, like twenty twenty five goals,
sixty sixty five points, maybe more than that in some
good years, I've seen enough to think he's can't miss.
I mean, if he's just good at eighteen, I mean,
for Heck's sake, But that doesn't mean that they can't
screw it up. I think they're more likely to screw
it up for him than Kindle is to screw it
(09:34):
up on his own. Let's talk out of Tommy Radio.
Tom what's your take on that idea? A kid line?
Speaker 5 (09:40):
I love it, especially if they won't be willing to
put Kendle on Crosby's wing, which is something that you
have said they should do or experiment with. They should
try it, but they probably won't. So yeah, go with
the kids line. Let Kendall play with some other dudes
that have some actual skill. I mean he's doing given
goes with Tommy freaking Novak out there on the ice
mark like imagine if he had some actual skill players
with him.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Well, I mean, no, that's skilled. He just isn't skilled enough.
He's not who we're talking about. But fair play.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
He made a nice connection with Kendall on that goal.
But but Kendall playing indefinitely with Bummy third liners won't work.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
It won't develop him.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
So, like I said, the kid line or Kindle with Crosby,
I see, is dent only two options for the sake
of kindle.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Is Kendall a bigger sensation of Brunick? Right now? Does
Kendall have more buzz? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (10:26):
But isn't that kind of easier for a forward to
capture that if he's, you know, no question playing better
putting up points like that's just more of an obvious
thing like Brunick's game is a little less obvious. I
think Brunick's been fantastic too, though.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Yeah, no, I'm not denigrating.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
I'm just saying in terms of buzz, in terms of
how the fans and even wretched media.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Like me see it, I think Kendall has a bit
more buzz. Now.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
A record of six and two is great, tied for
most points in the Eastern Conference. That's great. I still
feel like coyven it should be in Pittsburgh. I'm worried.
Like I said that, the good start scores the development aspect.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
However, temporarily, I.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Really can't figure out why Covenan is not in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Had two games was.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Part you could send him done. He didn't have to
clear waivers, but I would have done the last well.
And also, I think there's only so many veterans you
could have sent on to Wilkes.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
I think that might have been part of it.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
The point is, in terms of in terms of administration,
it was easy to do.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
That last part would make more sense to me if
they're limited with the amount of veterans that they can
send through waivers, Because if that's not the case and
they still have a lot of room as far as
that's concerned, who cares about sending.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
A bomby veteran through waivers to keep covining.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
But you already got a guy like Ryan Graves looks boy.
I wonder how he feels his career right now.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Forgot about that he's playing Wilkes. He's getting huge money,
you know, to play Wilkes.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
I wonder what his teammates will like if they make
him like by dinner or you know, because.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
He's the dynamic. He's the rich guy on that bus.
But he is on the bus.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
But you had to swallow that pride of every team
passing and you buy when you went on waivers.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
No thanks, we don't need Wyan Graves.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Oh, I think of Ryan Graves, has watched video of
himself played the last few years. He swallowed his pride
a long time ago. Sid got to two goals last night.
And it's odd because despite getting the construction helmet, I
wouldn't say Sid was great.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
He was just kind of shooting.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
It wasn't one of his legendary games, but he was still,
besides Jari, the biggest reason the Penguins won.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
He's just unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
And you know, after the game, you're here in Hilly
ties Mario for most multipoint games in Penguin's history, and
it's like you didn't even know that was a thing
going into this game.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
He's just breaking records left and right out of nowhere.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
And that's why, honestly, I would only fuss over the
really big.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Records because there's just so many that could pop up
like this, like the one last night.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
You'll get the big record lost in the shuffle. Maybe
if you recognize every record did the degree they have
so far.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
You know, I'm not surprised that, especially that Sid don't
care that much. I'm not exactly that's a big thing
with him. I'm not surprised that Sid's producing like this
to start the season, but it still is such a
marvel every time you see it, like comes out here
age thirty eight season, He's the second most goals in
the league so far, he's one off the lead right now.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Well, my thing is with him, I mean the production.
I honestly expect it for a couple more years. I
think he'll be a point per game guy this year,
next year at least. But I can't believe the shape
he's and I can't believe the motory still has. I
can't believe he doesn't cheat on the offensive side of
the park. I can't believe he's playing two hundred foot
you know, just about every shift every night. Not quite
(13:23):
did the degree he used to, but to a bigger degree.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Than anybody else.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
I think he's still got some longevity left to a
few years at a high level. And with the Penguins
showing signs of life right now, and I don't know
if it'll last this year and they'll be a playoff team.
But does this kind of smooth over some of that
trade stuff too with him where it's like I can
see kind of the light at the end of the tunnel,
the team's getting good again.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
It does, however, temporarily bit once he missed the playoffs.
He missed the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
It'll depend where they're at it The deadline as to
whether this you know, kicks up again, and I suspect
I suspect it will no matter what, because the Canadian
media that wants him so badly to leave Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
No doubt, they won't just let it die. Jari was
the story last night.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Florida cogged the blue paint as they are wont to do,
and Jari battled, which he doesn't always and then he
made that Scorpion save.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Scorpion Save was unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Did you ever see the original soccer Scorpion Saved from Colombia.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
I've never seen it where he puts the leg up
like that.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
No, he like just just kicked his legs like I
can't describe Rene Aguita, who was probably like blasted out
of his mind on blow because he was from Columbia.
Did you know the Colombia national team used to practice
at Escobar's mansion that he had a He had a
full size and immaculately groomed football pitch there.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Now would you say those are performance enhancing drugs? Depends
on the performer, like I in the movie.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
But remember the remember the soccer player from Colombia who
got shot by gangs just because he committed an own
goal at the World Cup.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Also Andre's escort he was a great player as well.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Thirty on that In the thirty for thirty they talked
to Guida and they and I'm kidding about him being
on blow probably, but they asked him, like, you know,
why did you guys practice there? He goes, We couldn't
say no. You couldn't say no to Pablo Escobar.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
I want you to practice at my facility. No, thanks, Pablo,
it's not gonna go well for you.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Although it should be noted that a rival cartel killed
Andre's it was not the Penguins are up to. That
wasn't quite a sidetrack. The Penguins are up to number
fifteen in the Athletics power rankings. Is that overreaction or
legit given how they played so far?
Speaker 5 (15:31):
It just depends on how you view things like power rankings,
like is that something that's about future prognostication or is
that just simply what has happened to this point.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
They're just something to fill space. Correct If he taken
it for so, you know what they did too, This
is like typical the Athletic Along with the power rankings,
they announced the list these are our guys, like our
favorite player. It can't be a super duperstar, but they
picked like their guy for the Penguins is Ben Kindall.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
I don't blame him. He's my guy too.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
If you looked at this season in just a vacuum,
no future agnostication will at last the Penguin should maybe
a little higher than fifteen.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
As far as the power rankings is concerned, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
I think you have to kind of blend how they're
how they're how they're doing with with whether or not
it might.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Be fool's gold.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Logan Koley west mifflind three goals under five minutes for
Utah last night, twenty one years old. I wish we
had that kid. If we had that kid, I mean,
my god, could you imagine him online with Kendall although
they are both centers. Kindle and don't get me wrong,
Cooley up here.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Kindall not quite exactly like Kendall.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Looks like he's going to be pretty good, but they're
still missing that cooly type of player. And this was
supposed to be the draft that you might be able
to get that cooly type of player in, and it
doesn't look like that's gonna happen right now if things
continue to trend in this direction. But yeah, they're missing
that superstar young player to really put them over the top.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
As far as a rebuild, I still wish they would
have taken Cooley's cousin LJ. Mooney, who's now at at
the University of Minnesota, got drafted.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I think what fourth rob by Montreal is gonna turn out?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Well?
Speaker 2 (16:58):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
I mean, it's a game, but I think it would
have been a gamble well worth taking. Just a super
skilled and fast player, albeit undersized.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Good spot for him though, with San Luis on the
bench in Montreal. Oh what I mean?
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yeah, a short guy who made good for sure, no question.
I really like the revival of the Penguins Hall of Fame,
which we got tomorrow night before the game at PPG TOMP.
Four great individuals and it reminds everybody this is a
great franchise. We talked about that with EJ at original
sixth level and then some that's the kind of respect
this franchise has, and that's why the Canadian media wants
(17:32):
to sit out of here. They want to try to tear
down that respect. They don't like that the Penguins have
more cachet than like Toronto or Montreal.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Right now, without a question.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
I mean the Penguins are like you know, the Lakers,
so the NBA at this point, like with just the
superstar banners that you have in the place. I mean
we're talking about Ron, Francis, Scotti, Bowman. I mean, these
are all time greats and they're not even in like
the top four when it comes to all time Penguins.
And that's not disrespectful to any of these guys. It's
just a fact. It's an embarrassment of riches, no question.
It's gonna be awesome to ourn. I great to have
(18:00):
an eg on the show.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Yesterday I wrote a column for The Trib talking about
what EJ and I discussed, how it wasn't automatic to
draft Mute was a lot more difficult, Like if you
look at it now and you weren't alive then and
weren't cognizant, you could never believe that. But it wasn't
automatic to pick him. And if you didn't hear the
discussion yesterday, check out my column today at TribLive dot com.

But hey, sue me, I'm not sure you've copyrighted, and
if you have, I would bet it's not iron clad.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
I want to talk.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
NBA a little bit because a couple of odd topics.
First off, what do you make of the gambling scandal?
Do you think it's a lot deeper than even we
know about right now? I think there's been outright game fixing.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
You hear that the.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Chauncey Billips, the Portland coach, told the wrong people that
he was gonna, you know, shit x amount of starters
in a game, and of course that that swung the
betting dramatically against Portland. And if that's not game fixing,
I don't know what is. But I also suspect that
the broadcast partners will sweep it under the rug after
(21:52):
a fashion. I watch ESPN. They're having a very difficult
time reporting it because you can tell they're not sure
what they should and shouldn't say. And Greeney was on
and the crawl underneath was a plug for a sports
betting service, and they literally in the middle of him talking,
replaced the crawl because they realize.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
That just looks looks really bad right now. You know,
they will try to ignore this, but it's too big
to go away. I mean, a sitting head coach was
just arrested.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
You know what, I think you should be right.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
I think you might be wrong anyway, because look at
the O Tawny thing, Oh Tony Gamble.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
He's on baseball, there's no question, and he's the biggest
baseball player on the face of the They just.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Weren't gonna let that, you know, play out like the
rules say it should have.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
It just is such a bad look for the league
almost I think they view it this way. If they
admit how big of a deal this is, they're thinking, oh,
then no one's gonna think we're credible. It's almost better
for us to just sweep this under the ruck and
be like, nothing's wrong here, don't worry about this.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Do you agree with my theory that they should go
to all the sports books, the legal ones, Vegas online,
the sponsors, fandor you know the names, and say no
more prop bets, no more over under for minutes, points
assists that stuff, because those are bets that one guy
can fix. If it's a bet you need more than
(23:11):
one guy. I guess having the coach billups would would
would would have served the purpose. But do you think
getting rid of prop bets would be a good idea? Now?
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Would that just transfer them to like the black market?
Though offshore betting like it kind of used.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
To be probably easier to catch.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Really, I think the legal betting might be easier to
catch because it's more trackable. You know, you have to
make these bets on these apps, they pinpoint data on
their You're right from that.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Standpoint, but I think if you eliminated those bets on
the legal apps, then you could focus on on what's
going on with would well, yeah, you're right, there would
always be offshore apps where you could Yeah. Maybe, I
don't know that. My idea of eliminating the prop bets
is probably better in theory than it would be to
actually eliminate the problem.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
And you're just never putting that back in Pandora's box
once you open that. I mean, prop bets are so
damn popular.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Well plus which two if you're like you know FanDuel
or bet Parks, who you know obviously we have an
affiliation with, i'd go to the NBA.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Now, we're not doing that. Clean up your own.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
House, Oh absolutely, because it really ruins our credibility as
a casino, as a book. If we're allowing bets on
a league that is getting fixed, we don't want that
as part of our business.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
I agree with you on that. Now here's another thing
of the NBA.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
This stuck in my craw and I tweeted about it
and got roundly criticized by the NBA fans who follow
my account. All like six or seven of them went
by Ama, the big seven foot five guy for San Antonio.
He was driving and he pulled up at the arc
and made a three, and people said how great that was.
(24:45):
I don't want a seven foot five guy hitting threes.
I want a seven foot five guy dominating the paint,
throwing elbows like Will Chamberlain, played like Will Chamberlain, not
Steph Curry. But it goes to show, which I've said
for years, how they should have got rid of the
three point line after X amount of years, because it's
warped the game and taken the taking the pick and
(25:07):
roll out of the game, and taking a lot of
the toughness Don Low out of the game. Is evidenced
by when Bayama hitting a three and everybody thinking how
great it is.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
He's just a stick figure, Webin Yama. I mean, there's
just no meat on those bones. And I think the
three pointer has become a poison to the league as well.
It has just become too relied on. I mean the
Celtics kind of were overkilled with that for the past
couple years. They should, like, fifty three is a game
or something like that's boring to watch the web and
Yama step back three is unbelievable to see. It's weird
that somebody that big can even do that. I kind
(25:37):
of hate that people are glombing onto that mark as
the marvel because there's like five dunks in this game
between the Spurs and Dallas that Webbin Yama had driving
to the hoop, reverse jams alley oops, they're sick plays.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Those should be the places people should be focusing on.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Yeah, but the seven foot five guy hitting the three
is the more unusual at least, I guess I mean Durant.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
I mean, how close Durant. Durant's like seven foot Durant
pull up for threes a lot all the time.
Speaker 5 (26:01):
Yeah, I mean, I guess it's unusual to see that,
but it's also unusual to see you. I'm watching it
right now. This dude pump, fake drive, dribble into the
lane and throw a reverse jam down.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
I mean that stuff. Lebron does not seven foot five dudes.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Yeah, but how have they improved since he got there?
Because he was This is the year he was the
big hope for them. This is his third year now
in the league, and he looked awesome in Game one.
This is the year the Spurs should make the playoffs
and make noise. If not, it's a problem.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
This shows my NBA ignorance. Is Pop still coaching? Nah,
he stepped down. Yeah, he was getting old and kind
of think that, right, I think he did that, you know,
transition to the front office thing, who's the coach stops?
He fixed games?
Speaker 5 (26:35):
I think he's on the up and up because he
was like Pop. He Pop groomed him for years, you
know what I mean. So he's like Pop junior. So
so he's not fixing a game. He's not gonna fix games.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Well he's not. He's not my kind of coach.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
Then you think Pop was fixing games? No, No, so
much integrity.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
I you know, dude, I think basketball is a sport
that lends itself most easily to fix it.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
You yes, point shaving.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Do you ever read any stories you know, Henry Hill,
the Good Fellaws, Rayleota's character, how they fixed games of
Boston College. It was a thirty for thirty thirty and
raccoon from Swissvale was the was the main player involved
in the fixing.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
And then there was the ref in the nineties what
was his name, It was like Tim Donnegey or something
like that, and they swept that under the rocks, right
under the ruck. The league has had the league and
the sport because Henry Hill was College has had a
very long history of this happening.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yeah, but but the thirty for thirty was really good.
The one guard, I forget the guard's name, but he
denies to this day he was involved.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
Boxing is still the king sport when it comes to
the fixes in right, all right, because you can do
it with one guy over you do with one guy.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. This Steeler game, Tom, we should probably
get back to talking about that. So don't you agree
that both teams are full of crap, that they have
a lot to prove like green Bay?
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Green Bay is a week four to one and one.
The Steelers are a week four and two. They're full
of crap right now.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
But I just think green Bay is a team that's
gonna prove something eventually. Maybe it's not this game and
the Steelers get lucky there there might pick to win
the Super Bowl still after the kind of an astar
you never revise your pick.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
You know, if you're gonna make a pick at the
beginning of the year, it you know, you gotta stick
with it and see if it plays out.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
But I think there is a game coming for the
Packers where it's like we put this all together, like
we're running the ball, well, then Love's playing off the
running game our defense.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
When they beat the crap out of Detroit week one,
that's week one. Though things can be weird in week
one in this league this year, things can be weird
every weekend. In fact are yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
So it is a proving ground for them to I
just go back and forth how I think this game
is gonna go. The one thing you said at the
beginning of the show that I completely agree with get
ready to score thirty plus points Steelers, because I don't
see this playing out in any way, But to not.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Get ready to do it because like sometimes they score,
like like against Cinci, their intent was to win a
rock fight, and like it always is every game, and
then Flacco started, you know, going off, and they had to.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Rogers had to keep up, right exactly.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
I think it would be better if the Steelers like
like conceded the first touchdown and they had to you know,
catch up right away and got in that groove. I
I think the way they approach games is a detriment,
not least not that they have er Rogers at quarterback.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
That's kind of how the Sincy game last year started
when russ autdueled Joe Burrow. Remember he threw the pick
six on like the first play, and they got into
that hole and that forced them into a game that
was high flying and not the rock fight. So yeah,
maybe getting down seven nothing wouldn't be the worst thing.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Ever, who's the best team in the NFC right now?
I think it's Detroit. I think it's still Detroit, even
though green Bay beat him. Even though green Bay beat him,
and we're a green Bay rank among the teams in
the NFC, they might be the runner up. They might
be number two Rams Tampa green Bay. That's like right
in Philly too, because of the defending champs. They're like,
right Philly, AJ Brown's doing his best to be ab
(29:34):
and blow the team up.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
But they had an awesome guy doing Now, why would you,
I mean, you're defending Super Bowl champs. I mean, is
it more important for him to get the ball? And
the answer is, of course yes, he's a wide receiver.
For him, it is.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
And this is gonna sound weird coming off of the
week he had, but I said it going into that week,
I trade him.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
If I was Philly, I get rid of him. You
have enough weather Steelers.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Absolutely to the Steelers for like a seventh round pick,
maybe for free, but you have enough in Philly to
survive without a j. Brown want to dismiss a number
one give the ball to Saquon a million time.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
You know, there's still those.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
In the Pittsburgh media and some fans too, but mostly media.
The fans have seen the light that think they should
have kept pickets. Poppy and he says that all the
time that they should have kept pickets.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
You don't win with guys like that. Cowboys aren't gonna
win with a guy like that.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
But here's here's the one argument you could make for
keeping pickets. He is in a contract year and couldn't
afford to f around, and clearly he's not in Dallas.
But by the same token, idiots don't pay attention to
stuff like that when it's time to.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Lose the rack.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
I just keep coming back to the point too, that
Aaron Rodgers, like, if you're the fourth or fifth option
on a play, you might get the ball, and Pickens
just quit on way too many plays.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
I could see it right now.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
If Pickens will still here, there be moments where Rodgers
wild like throw a ball and hit off the side
of his helmet because he was walking up the field.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
And Rodgers would hate picks. Oh, he spies there would
be a problem between the two. By now I.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Think yeah, I mean Rodgers gets snippy.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
When Jalen Warren throws the flea ficker that he wasn't expecting,
what do you think he would do?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
The pickens now hold it.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
I would have got pretty pissed myself, because that's like
balls back in your hands right right with with like
the entire team coming your way.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
He like just spiked it at Darnell's feet after it.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
It was clearly pissed right in the moment second like
he sold big time.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
He didn't even look downfield if somebody did leak open,
he was just like, how's that happen? How does one
guy I think it's still a flea flicker?
Speaker 5 (31:13):
How's the one guy that needs to get the check
not get the check that this is off? Like everybody
else who thinks it's still a flee flicker is fine.
As long as the running back just runs up the middle,
we're good.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
That's one where if I'm Rogers next time, I would
like cut my hands around my mouth to go it's
not a flea flicker like Mahomes.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Did you see that?
Speaker 5 (31:30):
Mahomes did the fake fake snap against the Raiders where
he went to the line on like fourth and one.
I was like hot at that and they didn't jump,
and he went this never fin works. Guys like said
it loud, try to sell it to the sideline. And
then he went right under center again and snapped the
ball and they ran it up the middle.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Not a big fan, that's high school. The first guy
to kind of do that. Dan Marino did the fake
spike and then threw.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
A touchdown back way bended it too, remember against the
Cowboys to ab they the Steelers ended up losing the
game because Tomlins defense blew it.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Do you like stuff like that?
Speaker 5 (31:56):
I think it's too card I like the fake spike.
I mean it's Dan Marino, Ben Roethli's. The two most
famous occurrences are a Steeler and then a Pitt Panther
and Dan Marino.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
But he did it as a dolphin and Dan Marino.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
I still say, no matter whether he won a Super Bowl,
which he did in Best Quarterback of All Time one
oh five ninety X.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Tomorrow Nights, the Pens take on the Blue Jackets.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Game time is seven.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
Our coverage starts at six here every game and the
best coverage right here on your home of the Pens
one five nine d X.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
From the Dollar Energy Fund Weather Center. This report is
sponsored by Dukes Mayo Dukes.
Speaker 7 (32:33):
It's got twice Hound's on the increase today with a
chance on DX.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Got Bret Michael's a poison and Butler Pa He joins
me at three point thirty. He's playing a couple songs
with his solo band in halftime at Akroshore Stadium Sunday night.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Got Charlie Batch at four o'clock.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
UH. The Mark Mannen pregame show brought to was by
the personal injury expert Sendrovich, Sendorovitch and fishman Tom.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
What have we got for today's trifecta?
Speaker 5 (33:02):
For today's trifecta, I've got three Packers who will wreck
the Steelers on Sunday, or it'll be very likely that
they'll wreck the Steelers. Number three, I'm not gonna go
with the player, gonna go with the head coach, Matt Lafleur.
I think it's a big coaching mismatch in this one. Now,
we kind of said this with Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings.
But the Vikings stink this year. Lafleur's got some actual
talent to work with on that offensive side of the ball.
(33:23):
Such a successful coach in Green Bay. He wins like
thirteen twelve games almost every single year. And Tomlin and
Terrell Austin defense is just right for the picking right now.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
I think it says a lot about Lafleur that he
negotiated the transition from Rogers to Love seamlessly, whereas Tomlins
never worked it out with the single quarterback since Ben.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
I mean, Lafleur's in that category of just offensive minds
that I really trust in this league.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Number two.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
I didn't include Micah Parsons in this list. I think
that's just obvious because he wrecks almost every game. I'm
gonna go with Shaun Garry, though, the other pass rusher
that they have, because the Steelers are gonna jumbo package Parsons.
They're gonna pay a ton of attention to Parsons, just
like they did Miles Garrett, except the Browns don't have
someone like Rashawn Gary, someone that can truly be like
that Rod.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
In that class.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
No, so Gary is someone that I would be worried
about wrecking this game. He's gonna get a lot of
probably one on one matchups. Josh Jacobs is number one, though,
How could you not pick a running back of his
caliber after you've seen what the running back of Chase
Brown's caliber did to the Steelers last week.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
I think that Jacobs and Jonathan Taylor next week with
Indy Taylor, oh my god, are gonna put a stake
in the heart of the Steelers season now. And I
think that at the end of the day, at the
end of these next two games, people are gonna finally
halfwack knowledge how badly the defense has let this team down.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
Now, when you look at jacobs year this year, he's
three point seven yards per carry, only like four hundred
and fourteen yards here, Like that's not that impressive. He
has three straight games of two plus rushing touchdowns. He
scored a rushing touchdown on almost every game period this year,
and he has the most games tied with Jonathan Taylor
back in twenty twenty four, six occurrences of two plus
rushing touchdowns in a game, like the dude just finds
the end zone. You want to talk about a prop
(35:00):
bet you should put someone anytime touchdown. For Josh Jacobs,
he almost always scores.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
I would go under and then see if he would
take himself out of the game early Josh Jacobs, Yes, yeah,
I mean if it works in the NBA, well I would,
I mean, but if they're ahead, yeah, I mean, you
know not, I mean, okay, I'd fix it.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
If I could.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
I would love to be on the inside of a fix,
like you said earlier in the show, and again I
like you, I would not rat. I would totally ride it.
I'd be nervous as hell to ride it though, right,
like you get burned because you've got to put a
lot up to it if it's going to be fixed.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
And it invariably is going to be found out because
look at Rosier, like who the freak would bet on
his prop on his over under, but like in an
orderate amount of money came in on I mean, that's
how they caught him.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
It's easy to catch that.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
And Terror's ear signed a one hundred million dollar contract
just recently and it's fully guaranteed in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Like, what are you doing? Why are you flushing that up?
That's addiction? No, it's not it's not guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Well no, Actually, there was a good debate on Inside
the NBA with Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, where Kenny
Smith said was an addiction and Charles Brooker said, nah,
he goes, I gambled a lot. It's stupidity. Hain, no addiction,
it's stupidity. You're flushing an NBA contract. But but like
I said earlier, I hesitate to weigh in fully on
(36:13):
either addiction or stupidity. I think some guys, like I said,
just like the grift, just like the feeling of getting
away with something, and the money's almost just the bonus.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
It's not the gamble. It's not the money part of
the gamble. It's that you're screwing somebody else over apart. Yeah,
that just kind of makes a bad person, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
The trifecta brought to us by Danny's PiZZ and Hogies,
Pittsburgh's original oven bake togy since nineteen sixty. That's Danny's
on Route eighty eight and Bethel Park up next. I
got a whole bunch of lists breaking down the Steelers
and Packers Sunday night. Don't forget I'll be watching the
game at celebrations in Imperial it's a hot spot for
a Steeler game.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
One oh five nine. Now it's your chance to win
one thousand dollars
