Speaker 1 (00:01):
Double m won the pregame show brought to you by
the personal injury expert Shenderovid, Shandorovitch and Fishman. They've got
your back, not your wallet. Let's talk to Tommy Radio.
Tom can you see that playing out as I suggest
with Rogers and Howard and the draft pick?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I can definitely see that playing out exactly that way.
You know, I'm not surprised that the Steelers are entertaining
bringing Rogers back. I kind of thought that that is
how this would end up playing out. I suspected it
too very of the timing.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I just expect Jeremy Fowler to be reporting it after
seven weeks.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Of the season yet a season that's not gone that great.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I mean, they're four and two, but they were supposed
to be five and one, and the last loss was
a disaster, albeit not to be blamed on the offense
or Rogers.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Right, But I didn't think this would be the fodder
in week eight of the season. And when you oh, no.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
That part doesn't surprise me because all we do in
this years some worse.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Thomas talk about the quarterback the future of that position.
He's four and two right now, and he's played a
lot better than Justin Fields did last year. But they're
in the exact same spot that they were in with
Justin Fields last year through six games, four and two.
That's a good point four and two. I just don't
know why you have to do this, why you have
to engage in these conversations Jufreid. You're gonna lose him

(01:16):
if he decides to play again. You're gonna go somewhere
else like this can wait until the end of the year.
I don't think Fobs getting this wrong. You don't get
much wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
I think this is clearly an internal discussion with the
Steelers leaning toward keeping Rogers, and.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
They're just infatuated with him and the stability I've.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Been infatuated with with old timey you know, proven secure,
Like I said, stability over success.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yes, I mean they know they're having a winning round.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
But then again, a forty one year old quarterback whose
body could and probably will disintegrate before seasons in, I'm
not sure that's exactly stability. It's stability in theory, it's
a proven commodity, but many a slip TwixT cup and lip,
and for that matter, between now and week one next season.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, exactly, I mean it could all blow up at
any time. One hit in his entire career could be
over it like that they suck What if they lose
like the next nine or ten games in a row.
I don't think they suck that bad. You think they
suck that bad.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Oh, But I mean, but put it this way, I
think there's more potential for that than to win the
next nine or ten in a row.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
True, because I don't think that they're that great, but
they're not. They're in the mushy middle. But and they
know Rogers will deliver that again next year if he's healthy,
and that's what the goal is clearly, is to just
stay in that nine and eight, ten and seven stable rang.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
I've said this many times, but it's worth repeating in
the wake of this news.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Art is an idiot, ton Win's an idiot. Con is
an idiot.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
They're all idiots telling each other they're smart, and those
are the most dangerous kind of idiots.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I mean, this move in particular is just so idiotic.
When you're in the thick of the AFC North Race
in the driver's seats, you should win it. I mean,
it would be embarrassing it.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
I don't think discussing it. I don't think the news
breaking affects anything, but it's just it's weird to talk
about it though. In it's just it's just how the
organization operates, and it leaves me no hope. It leaves
there's me no feeling that there will ever be significant change,
which is what this organization most needs. How do you
bring in all the new guys they brought in Tom

(03:09):
and they brought it in a ton of them. Yeah,
how do you bring in all these new guys and
it still feels like exactly the same team with exactly
the same problems and exactly the same level of staleness.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I know how I was just gonna say, you know
the answer. The answer is hitting you right in front
of the face. What's the state, what's the thing that's
been the same, what's been the constant variable year after
year after it?

Speaker 1 (03:28):
They think he is infallible. He's like the black football pope.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
That's pretty good with the Rogers thing. I love how
he's played so far, but he hasn't proven anything. But
he's not dazzled. He's been pretty good. I think he's
been really good. I mean, well, I don't see.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Here's the thing when you I can honestly say that
his biggest uh attribute is his pre snap decision making.
And when you're talking about a quarterback whose biggest attribute
is pre snap decision making, you might as well be
saying he's an old guy who doesn't have that many
tricks left in the bag besides guile and intelligence.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
But here's the thing, too, Mark, like he's moving really
well in the pocket, like against Cincinnati, he was dodging
rain drops back there, and he has that savvy mobility
still about it.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
There's a ridiculous statement, Tom, but no more ridiculous than
already talking about keeping Roger for next year. If they
had kept Justin Fields dead be forn too right now.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh, I don't know if I do disagree with that
because their defense is awful this year. Their defense is
nowhere near what it was last year when they had
Justin Fields. I don't think he puts up the amount
of points that Rodgers has put up. Rodgers has scored
over thirty points a few times already with the Steelers offense. No, no,
no point well taken.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
But but we got some sound like people like like
like mad Dog Russo on ESPN talking about the defense
is gonna be better?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Why why would anybody think this defense is gonna be better?
I don't know how you assume that it's ancient. You
think a bunch of old guys are gonna get better
as the season wears on. That just doesn't track. They're
gonna get worse, They're gonna get worn down.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
I still laugh at Cam saying this is unacceptable. Oh
did you think so, Captain? You finally figured that out? Well,
make it right.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
But he won't. He stinks he's old. What's fading? You
know what?

Speaker 1 (05:10):
They don't stink. That's a bad thing to say. They're
not washed up, that's a bad thing to say. But Ramsey,
wat and Hayward, arguably their three most important players on
defense are all fading.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Not washed up, but fading. That's the right word, fading.
And you know what, we should have seen it coming
against Cincinnati on a short week, that a very old
defense with a lot of fading players would not be
able to bounce back in three days time to play
on a short week. I saw, I saw come on
when I was telling him not to extend. What right?
But like the bounce back from.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
That is the one hidden good thing about everything that's happening.
I am being proven like one thousand percent right about
everything I've said about the Steelers for years.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah, but that's the ald half for you. I mean,
that's been doing that for twenty eight years.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
It's still twenty nine. It's still very gratifying to see
it play out. And I want to get back to
Will Howard. The fans like him, Okay, we always I
can't wait.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
To see this kid play.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
People were crushed when he was injured and couldn't play
in the preseason, and that makes it easier for the
Steelers to climb themselves. Like I'm talking rot Keith Rodgers,
Groom Howard draft on defense of the line in the
first round next year.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
What a stupid fan base? Then why do you like
Will Howard? What in the world would you be enamored
with him? Did you mean? Right? Like the right quarterback?
I'm gonna speak very literally in this regard. I mean
he won a national championship at Ohio State. Yeah, he
did a good job there. He had the highest paid
roster in class football. He last until the sixth round,
right for a reason? You know, I see you're telling me.

(06:42):
If everybody was wrong, then the Steelers were also wrong.
Five times a national championship quarterback from Ohio State goes
to the sixth round. If that guy had any ability
and people thought that would translate even slightly to the
NFL with the right circumstance, he would not have fallen
into the sixth round with that kind of pedigree winning
a championship. Here, here's the funny thing.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
People a gonna say, all the Steeler true believers in
the media studes. Well, they didn't say they're keeping Rogers.
They might as well have. This didn't a period of nowhere,
and them wanting to keep him and choosing stability is
in keeping with their approach for years.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Here's the other reason why hitching your wagon to Will
Howard is so stupid. What clues you in that this
coaching staff is going to be able to develop a
quarterback like that and that's a developmental quarterback.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Well, now that said, here's my predicted order of what's
gonna happen. Rogers is definitely coming back. I have, baring
grievous injury, he'll be back. Okay, grooming Howard, they'll keep
him and he'll get a roster spot next year. I
don't think that totally precludes drafting a quarterback in the
first drown. And then again with guys like Drew Aller

(07:48):
and an Arch Manning not being what they were cracked
up to be, maybe the amount of franchise quarterbacks in
that draft is significantly lower than we expected, and then
the Steelers have trouble drafting one or even trading up
the draft one.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
I'm just thinking, like, you're gonna have to draft a
quarterback if you're the Steelers that almost doesn't need any grooming,
any development. It's just almost like a guy who can't miss.
Just plug him in and he's gonna play great because
like it's a defensive minded head coach, but he won't
play next year anyway. The guy who they draft, oh,
let me tell.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
You what, if I'm March Manning or or well Drew aller'
is gonna have to take a week you can get
after the injury. But like, if I'm one of those
star quarterbacks, Okay, this is the last place I want
to come.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
I think that they would stunt your growth instantly, and
there are so many other places that would be preferable.
So many other young coaches offensive mind gif like who's
the top quarterback right now because Arch Manning's into uh,
probably Feranando Mendoza, Indiana's quarterback. Mendoza. Yeah, it feels like
you think I might have gotten that name wrong. Feels
like he should be the short stuff for the Dodger.

(08:44):
That is a shortstop name too. Mendoza is his last
name for Indiana Indiana's quarterback is the answer? It is
Fernando Mendoza. I was right. I should have trusted myself.
There was something in the air that night. The moon's
so bright. Fernando.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
No, if I were him, I would refuse to come
here like our like Eli Manning did with the San
Diego Chargers.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, I feel you on that he's gonna go number
one overall though probably so Steelers ain't getting that you
think that the Indiana quarterback's gonna go number one overall.
He's looking like the Heisman favorite right now.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Well, this is where I really pride myself on not
watching college football.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
One oh five nine the X one O five nine
d X has your shot at x d A cash.
It's the Mark manon for you game show on one
O five nine d X.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
We're talking about Jeremy Foller BSPN reporting that Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Uh is likely.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
The return of the Steelers next year, at least that's
what the club wants. And I've been saying, I don't
know how you decide that after just six games of
the season, in just seven weeks, Will Howard's coming off
injured reserve which means you can practice, and I can
see the Steelers conning themselves as the thing Howard, you know,
deserves a shot at the long term guy. They bring

(10:03):
Rogers back next year, and then you draft on defense
because that's how you win in Pittsburgh with defense, except
they don't and haven't for years. But it's also we're
talking about how Aaron Rodgers is playing because he ain't
the old Aaron Rodgers, and even if he could be,
the game plan doesn't let him. It's so one oh one,
it's dumb down. It's game management. At least that's what

(10:25):
I see. Maybe Rogers would tell me different. In other words,
he'd lie his pre snapwork is exceptional, making decisions, his
arm shows flashes. His guy was what you'd figure for
his football IQ and experience. I feel like Rogers is
what he was brought in to be. He had a
big fourth quarter Cincinnati I've said I feel like Rudolph

(10:46):
could run these game plans as easily as Rogers, but
at the moment of truth, you'd obviously rather have Rogers,
and Rudolph just as obviously couldn't do the pre snap
stuff Todd. Before we talk about Rogers, I want to
skip ahead. How was TJ Watt played this year?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
I'd give him play a B plus, which is plus?
Am I wrong? Yes? Why he's not close to B plus?
I think he's worse than that. He's like C plus.
Oh wow, I don't know about that C plus we're
talking about TJ Wat. I thought a B plus was
pretty damn it, Jat. I thought I was being harsh,
and he's the highest grade. You know, A plus technically, Mark,
no C plus at best. He's been invisible for two games.

(11:29):
I'd say, which is.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Visible visible for two, man for two, pretty good in two,
not even dominant for two, but pretty good.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, I guess that's fair. I would say he hasn't
wrecked a game yet this year. I have a TJ
wat jersey in my closet. What do you expect from me? Mark?

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, he's he's not a B plus. Now is Rogers?
What you expected after six games.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
I think he's more than what I expected. I didn't
like I said in that I expected it to be
hurt exactly. I could come at any time. But his
ability in the pocket is a lot better than I thought.
You know, he's not as mobile as he used to be,
but he's still pretty nimble. And he needs to be
behind that offensive line, which is playing okay, I guess,
and getting kind of better. Get a lot of protection.

(12:09):
Help with that jumbo package too. He's slightly better than
what I thought we'd be getting out of Aaron Rodgers.
I think what you said about the game plan failing
him is more prevalent than what Rogers can still bring
to the table. I bet you he could push the
ball down the field more than they left.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Could you imagine if Rogers just ran the place call
him didn't make the pre snap adjustments one to oh one,
the offense was even more so, I think.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
And they would run into brick walls. I don't know.
I don't know that, I'll be honest, I'm speaking out
of turn. I don't know that.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
I just have no faith in that offense or the
coaching of the offensive platoon and the head coach I've
mentioned that I don't like.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
But you have faith in him. You have faith in
eight at the line of scrimmage. Aaron Rodgers more than
any of the Yeah, yeah, he knows more about offense
than anyone on that staff by far. Oh they would
run into so many brick walls if they didn't have
Rogers to be able to check out of a play
that is going wrong. I mean, he obviously knew that
flea flicker was bogus play. Then you tried to check
out of it, except his running back wasn't listening apparently,

(13:03):
and still try to run it for him like they
would be stuck on offense without had Oh.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
No, I can't emphasize enough about the pre snap stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
That may be the saving grace of the entire offense.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
It's it's a get out of jail free card, you know,
potentially snap after snap after snap. Now, what about his
actual arm? What percentage is Rogers's arm compared to which speak?
Is it like what seventy?

Speaker 2 (13:29):
I was thinking like eighty percent? I mean there's still
some moments where you know he's thrown across his body.
I can't believe he got the ball to the end
zone on that hail Mary attempt throwing it like seventy
yards in the air. I mean, that's still really impressive
for someone his age. It's impressive for somebody any age
at that position that the farthest you've ever thrown a football. Oh, probably,
like what forty yards? I'm impressing you in your in

(13:50):
your the prime of your youth. Forty yards. Yeah, And
that's I'm talking about getting everything behind it. Damn accuracy,
and my arm's gonna hurt a lot after like winding
up like one mare of shout which giants pitcher and
just bombing it and then like needing the ice, like oh,
I can't throw another football after that. I probably get
it forty yards back in my prime. So seventy yards
for him in the ears, and I would say, I

(14:12):
would say my peak might have been only twenty five
twenty five yards the same thing arm hurts after put
everything into it.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
I was just pucellanimous and Rod. I mean, this is
the intangibles. He's been a great teammate and leader. You know,
you can see it, no doubt, And that's hard to
do to see that and feel that a.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Lot better than Russ. Russ's leadership last year was sorely needed,
but it was fake leadership. This is authentic stuff, and
I honestly like seeing him rip into guys like I
liked seeing him rip into Jalen Warren for messing up
that flea flicker. I liked seeing him rip into Broderick
Jones for tackling him after what should have been the
game winning touchdown to Pat Fryer Muth. I like the

(14:50):
fire that he brings to the team. The offense would
be just lost without him. I know you think Mason
Rudolph could execute the game play. That's wrong about that.
I think he'd be okay. Like I don't think they'd
be terrible with rudolpho.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
I think if Rudolphin played all the games, they'd be
three and three exactly.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
I'm thinking the same thing.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
But that one game is going to make called the
difference in the world. In effect, it might already because
they should be five and one.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
I mean, Rogers bailed the defense out against the Jets
because the Jets were terrible, or the defense was terrible
against the Jets an awful team in hindsight, and we
kind of thought they were an awful team during that
game anyway. And then he basically bailed him out against
the Bengals. He tried his best on Thursday Night Football
to win that game for the team, and the defense
just sold him.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Well.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
The Cincinnati game answered a question. I'll be it against
the terrible defense, but Rogers can still bring you back.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
He had a very good fourth quarter. I'll be it
against the terrible defense. Though, is doing a lot of
heavy left than not exactly, I mean years past. I
don't know if there would be a quarterback that could
do that for the Steelers. So yeah, he still has
that ability against bad defenses. But I still don't know
how that would look, say, against the Lions when they
get down by a couple of touchdowns later this year,
the line's gonna kill them. I can't believe he gave

(15:57):
to b plays. No, you're so egregiously mad at me
for that. I'm a see I'm taking it down from
a seed who cares? Right, it's your grade.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Well, the point of who cares is well taken. But
but no, but blake here, Tom. I think wat has
dominated if you use a loose definition of dominate.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
He said, two very good games, let's call them dominant.
So he's dominated.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Thirty three percent of the time when you're making forty
one million, and given the Steelers dynamic, which depends so
much on defense, and the defense depends so much on him,
you're just not going to be good enough with him
playing the way he is.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
You just are not.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
There is nobody can say, well, it's a team game.
This guy, that guy, the other guy, next man up.
It doesn't apply here, not when you're making forty one mil,
not when you're kinded on to do what they're kinding
on what to do.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Do you have any change it to an F? I
could change it to an F if you want. Onny
shut up? How's that sound?

Speaker 1 (16:50):
The X.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It's the WOODI Show weekdy mornings at six turns headlines,
redneck news and more on one the X Terry. We're
jen us here for the gate Way Clipper. You're haunted help.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Pregame show brought to this bar good friends at sender
ovid Schendrorov and Fisherman. Date charged twenty five percent, the
rest charge forty tom. I feel like today's show was
once again all over the place. The Jeremy Fowler scooped
that the Steelers are or wanting to bring back Rogers
next year.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Caught me by surprise. You're grade of giving TJ.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Watt a B plus for this season caught me by
surprise when it's obviously, you know, a C plus or
even lower. And now we got the Penguins to talk
about as well. Oh, don't forget Liverpool and Frankfurt today
as Liverpool trying to break their four game losing streak.
And then we got the Penguins five to one winners
over Vancouver PPG paint Serena last night. Only thirteen k
on hand. That's not good, but the peng was now

(17:46):
five and two at Florida tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Don't forget.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Come watch the game with me at Sharky's in Latrobe,
Prime RIB Night, Prime Rib Primetime for Hockey comes to
win the Super Genus at Sharky's in Latrobe at seven
pm tomorrow night for the Penguin game. Tom The Penguins
survived first shot, first goal and won in stot. I
was like, oh no, this ain't good, but usually that
leads to a loss, and they were pretty worthy winners, convincing.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
She loves bounce back and saved every other shot that
he faced from Vancouver after letting in the first one.
It was a great game from the Penguins. There's so
much fun to watch again. The freshness of this team
after a few years of so much staleness is just
it's awesome to see. And I don't know where this leads.
It's a much better start than any of us I
think anticipated, but it's at least fun to watch the

(18:32):
team play. And they're not gonna get McKenna. They still
might finish bottom five. As far as lottery odds are concerned.
They might yet get McKenna. They too many conclusions based
on seven games.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Then again, if the Steelers can keep Rogers after six,
we can deny McKenna after seven.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
But the Penguins, well, when you start winning early in
a season market, you think you start believing a little
bit more and start buying into that you guys can
at least stay afloat in this playoff race as a team.
And then you look at how weak the East is.
I mean, I don't know they might actually stay in
this playoff race. I mean, what if they're going to
playoff spot by Thanksgiving? That's almost like a month away.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Well, let's not forget teams that are in the playoffs
at Thanksgiving. Make it ninety I think seven percent of
the time. Now, Sid and Gina were flying. Here's my
theories on that. Sid's always flying, he just doesn't know
any other way. Gina wants to keep playing next year,
as is trying to prove he still can. He's even
playing really smart in the neutral zone, not turning the

(19:26):
puck over.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
That said, he started out hot last year as well. Yeah,
that's what I'm still waiting to see is let's see
how he looks closer to Thanksgiving the beginning of December,
because I think, you know, like eleven points through five
games last year, he's almost even hotter last year. Yeah,
so we'll see if that can have a little bit
more longevity this year. I feel you on your theory though,
that it's it's almost like a contract year, is how

(19:48):
he's viewing it. I mean, he kind of is a
contract year for him if he does want to keep
playing in the league.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
So well, if he wants to keep playing and wants
to stay here, that is going to be mega awkward
because the right.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Thing is to let him go. Can't do it, have
to let them. I bet they keep them. I've bet
a thousand dollars on it. Right this second, are you
surprised that Florida isn't Lodgers will hold a dual press
conference espress, Florida isn't calling after the start that he's
had in their injury situation.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
And they look awful. Well, here's the thing. I think Florida,
you know what, they might very quietly do just not
make the playoffs. I don't think they're gonna, you know,
affect their long term by trading to try to squeak
into the playoffs. I think they might just you know,
take it on the chin and regroup next year when
you have Ka, Chuck and bark Off back.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
There's no way they're gonna repeat. I just don't feel
like that's gonna be the case, especially.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
That would require making the finals now. But my thing is,
having watched them play I think three times so far,
not only are they missing the guys that are hurt,
but the whole team's exhausted from all those playoff games.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
So if they quietly miss the playoffs like you're suggesting,
not on purpose, but it just kind of happens organically
with injuries, they'd probably be the favorite the next year
to come back and win it all. Don't plably get McKenna.
Now here's the something I wrote about in the trip.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
Kendall's been real good, but he only has the one
goal in six games, having sat one, and I think
if he's not gonna play top six, if he's just
gonna play all season with guys like Tommy Novak and
Philip Hollander, he should go back to junior, because, like
I talked about Alexei Morosa, you don't want Kendall up here,

(21:26):
who's projected to be a top six learning to be
a bottom six. Even though I don't think he would
benefit greatly from going back to major junior. I'd rather
have him play top six there than bottom six in Pittsburgh,
just as I've come around to the idea that Coyvenan
should play top six and Wilkes in not bottom six here.
That said that said tom My, top six in Pittsburgh

(21:48):
would be Sid Gino, Russ, Raquel, Coyvenan, and Kendall.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Period. I'm not going to buy into this.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
You know, the Brassers guy is Eric Glendress all of
a sudden, and I don't care if he really is either.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
It's not the purpose to develop him.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
The purpose to develop the guys who have a pot
of gold at the end of their rainbow.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Yeah. I would rather have Kindle play in top six too,
So if that has to be a juniors, then send
him back. Having Phillip the net a ton of juniors
haven't get a ton of confidence. You think he projects
more as a wing too in the future at the NHL.
I don't know. See I wonder if they view him
more I see it.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
I see him as a second line guy who's gonna
get like twenty to twenty five goals, forty to forty
five assists in his good years.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
I want to send Kendle back though, because if he stays,
he'll be the third line center. I don't think they're
gonna toile him in the top six.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Depends what their plans are. Like you know what I'd do,
I'd put him on Sid's line.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Yeah, but I don't think they're going to I don't
think they are either. But I'll tell you why I would.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
I think they think the game the same and Oskay
Kendall should be in their first power play. Kindall is
better on the power play than Ruster Raquel. Kendall on
the second power play is making more plays through the
neutral zone. And into the offensive zone in like in
like ninety seconds of powerplay time of night, then the
rest of the the first team park plays making total.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
I would do that too, but I just don't think
I go. You know right now is a better park
play guy than Malkin, And they're definitely not gonna leave
mulking off the first unit for him. So I would
send him back to juniors because they're not going to
use him in the capacity that you're describing that they should.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
They should think about it because even if they are
entertaining the thought of making the playoffs. Now, one of
the smartest things I ever saw coach do, and I
forget who the coach was. I think it was Gene
Ubriaco at this point in eighty eighty nine, put Robbie
Brown with Mario. Even though Robbie bron skated like he
was is he was in what cement, his ankles were

(23:37):
chained together. He thought the game like Mario and wind
up getting forty nine goals and one hundred and fifteen points. Now,
part of that was, you know, coach tail and Mario
in his one hundred and ninety nine points season, But
why ask why?

Speaker 2 (23:50):
And if you slide kindle up to the top six.
Put him on Sid's wing. You could open up a
slot for someone like a Bros who is a bottom
six player would project to be that right at the
NHL level. Bring him from who see that.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
That's the they're in love with Brassers now and that
will continue all season.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
He's done very well. I'm not denigrating, but he is
what he is.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
He's a journeyman, big goof and we can't suddenly think
he's Eric Glendross despite the cool porno name.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
And he's benefiting from Gino's hot star too. I mean,
Gino's setting things up for.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Benefiting you know what's doing okay too is Mantha, who
who has a bit more pedigree than like like and
he you know what he's doing that we ain't had
guys do this for years. That's why Brasser stands out
and Mantha stands on. They go to the net with purpose.
Like last night, Manton just got to the net at
the same time as two of their guys and the puck,
and he collided with all of them and the puck

(24:39):
lined up in the net.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
That's the kind of goals that we hadn't been getting
for years. They have been there. It's like Jeremy Pivot
and gross Boot, like ten years now, it's been missing.
It's what I said at the beginning of the segment,
like it's just so refreshing to watch this team play again.
Who knows where this all leads, but at least in
a night in a night out basis. I mean, Mark,
I'm not worried as much of blowing leads now all

(25:01):
of a sudden, I'm feeling safe with the two goal
lead all of a sudden.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
See, But that's the problem. It's weird because it feels
like they're efing up. It feels like five and two
is efing up, Like making the playoffs would be fing
up because drafting sixteenth would suck or eleventh or whenever.
You know, it's not worth not getting the star forward
to just sneak into the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
It'll feel like it is, but it just is not.
And you don't see them getting into the playoffs and
making a little noise winning around.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
I mean, don't be wrong, least this week. If you
made me root for something right now, well, okayre's the thing.
I'd want them in the lottery if I knew they
would get McKenna of course, since I don't know that
i'd like to see make the playoffs, since what's best
for business.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
I mean, my god, they were only thirteen k there
last night. It is what's best for business. But they
really need that, like nailed on star prospect and there's
like five of them in this draft class, six of
them that you can get.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Yeah, they don't have a first line center or first
line in the entire system.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
And if they get that, I think it all comes together.
I think it's a perfect system. Then at that point,
what they.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
Probably have is a bunch of like real good second
line guys like coyven in McGroarty kindle kindle, except you
couldn't play him together, would be too small when mcgroarty's
pretty place, pretty big.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Well. The one thing they do have going to is
they have a pretty good battery defensively with Bruniic on
the blue line and then Murshov and net like those
two should be a great tandem. Staggy made a great call.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Oh yeah, I mean more shot Moreshoff will be the
be the he's killing it team. Stagg he had a
good line. I was sitting next to him in the
press box. The goal mant to score. We just rammed
into the net. That reminded us of a goal Troy
Lone he scored in the playoffs one year.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Like it.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
It looked like technically the puck one net first, but
he went into the net right after the puck, and
if you glanced, it almost looked like Troy was inside
the net pulling the puck in. It was like he's boom.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Everything doesn't have to look like you know, this spectacular
top ten play. When you score, you can have a
car crash, get the puck in the net.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
The big redhead from bo Island, Alberta. By the way,
we didn't note the couple couple milestones. Sid is now
the Penguins all time leading score regular season plus playoffs.
He passed Mario although to be the big Marcus still
regular season I agree with that. That's seventeen twenty three
to sixteen ninety five, so Sid will reach it later
this year. And Panger got his six hundred career assists

(27:22):
only twenty NHL defense.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
I've never done that.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Sometimes I feel like we sleep on Tanger's career because
he was obviously in the shadow of Sid and Gino.
But he racked up a lot of points, making sure
those guys got points. Yeah, and he was like just
the rock behind those guys and the playmaker behind those guys.
You had to have a playmaker behind those guys.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
When you saw that he joins just nineteen other defensemen
in NHL history to do that, I think it really
put into perspective just how great Chrys Latang is. And
he should be a Hall of Famer. He should go
in with those two, not together. It's like some big celebration.
But you know what I'm saying, Gino and sid or
longer Zo.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
He came up in an era where there were so
many good defenseman he couldn't even get on Team Canada.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Even though he probably deserve to be on Team Canada
as a bottom pair guy. I think one point, they're
talking about this Shaefer guy, the Islanders rookie. He looks great.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Yeah, but okay, he can't be on the Canadian Olympic team.
Oh as far as that's you have to consider him, No,
you don't. He's a rookie, he's eighteen. You're not taking
guys to the Olympics.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
To develop them. Yeah, I agree with that. You know
what I would do, I know what the roster sizes are.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
If there's like, you know, an eighth defenseman doesn't play,
I'd take them along for the experience, Like the Dream
Team took along.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Who Lightner, Yeah, Lightner. That didn't really pay off, but
it turned out to make him a really mediocre NBA player.

four thirty. Right now, we've got Tommy Radio. Tom what

(30:03):
do we got for the trifecta?

Speaker 2 (30:05):
For today's trifecta, I have got three pleasant surprises to
the start of the Penguin season so far. Number three
for me is the team really buying in and playing
within Dann Muse's structure, because they have all bought in
superstars to bottom of their.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
No question, and that's reflected not that many guys are
playing that great now.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
The whole is better than the some of the parts,
except for siding Gino. I mean, they're just playing elite hockey.
Number two is brawsers. It's not gonna last, but five
goals already is insane leading the team as far as
that's concerned. The number one. Pleasant surprise, and maybe this
isn't a pleasant surprise, maybe this is kind of a disaster.
But the goaltending Seawov's and Jari are combined for a
ninety two percent save percentage so far league average is ninety.

(30:45):
They're playing awesome. I will.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
I agree with the structure. I agree with brawsers. I'm
not sure I would have a number three. Maybe Kindle
and Okay and Brunick. But don't confuse getting hit with
the puck with good goalie play.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
Okay, so it's.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
I'm not sure they're making saves, although if you get
hit with the puck, you're putting yourself a good position.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
But they're not committing robbery.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
They're playing behind a very structurally sound defensive approach that
is limiting the other team's opportunities. For example, that goal
last night, the first goal in the first shot, Shiloff
should have stopped it. That's a ton twister. Hiloff should
have stopped it. She sells seashells by the seashore. Shiloff
should have stopped it. See Radio professional right there the diction.

(31:32):
But yeah, I'm not sold on the goaltending.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
So the number three in my trifecta. The muse system
and playing within it is feeding into what I had
at number one. Yes, yeah, how could you have an alternate?
I would take that out. And just how surprising and
seamless it seems to be for Brunick and Kindle at
the NHL level, for a nineteen year old and Brunick
and an eighteen year old and Kindle, Yeah, no question,
no question. I mean I thought that Brunick would be good.

(31:55):
I didn't think he'd arguably the best defender on the
team already. And then as far as Kendall's concerned, I
thought this was just gonna be, you know, get your
feet wet a little bit, have a nice cup of
coffee in the NHL. But he looks awesome, like he's
forcing your hand almost to keep him. You know what's funny,
And this is me reading into just watching them do
interviews after the game.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Brunick looks like he can't believe he's here, Like, you know,
he's like really wide eyed, and that's what a knock.
That's just how he is. Kendall is not. Kendall just
looks like he's kind of absorbing it, you know what
I mean. And that's that's cool too, maybe because his
parents were both professional athletes.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Wellre's your gut going with those two? Still leaning Brunick
stays Kendle back. I hear they're gonna keep both of them.
I would not hate that, and then that load.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah, but I will hate it if Kendall winds up
centering Tommy Novak.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
And fill the entire instead of experimenting with him in
the top six. I would like not.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Experimenting tom You can't be concerned about Braso and Mantha.
You can't be like McGroarty has to go top six
when he gets here, has has to be top six.
If he stays here, coven has to come up and
be top six. But the only alternative I could come
up with is.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
If you put all three of them on a third
line of McGroarty Kendall centering them, and then Coivenan has
the other wing. Yes, kind of have a youth movement line.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Yes, And I might be tempted to play them like
equal minutes to the second line.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
If your long term prognostication for what kinda will become
as a center, I don't hate that, But if you
think he's going to be a wing, get him up
there with Sid for a run. Sid doesn't want that.
He's not said that out. They're reading into that. Like
most things Sid doesn't want, he never has to say.
They just decide for him. They know what to do.
It's like it's like the Dupuie thing when we got Iggy.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
They got Iggy specifically to play with Sid in twenty
thirteen and Sid said to the media, well, I'm content
playing with Knits and Duper never talk to Bosman, never
talked to Shiro.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
But but the.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Assembled took it like a papal bull like it, like
like Sid had delivered the message from the monor at
Saint Peter's Basilica something like that.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
And if they keep winning as they have to start
the season, and they stay in that playoff race, or
they're in the playoffs come Thanksgiving, they won't trade Ruster
Riquel right like they won't move them via trade where
it's almost like Well said, we have no choice. We
have to play covin In with you now, or we
have to play kindle with you now. There is no rust.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
I honestly don't know what they'll do. I didn't expect
them to start five and two. Oh so I just
if they are in a playoff spot at the deadline.
You can't trade those guys. But what if you're like
six points out of a playoff spot at the deadline,
which means you're probably not gonna make but you are
in it.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
This team is good. It's not a bad thing that
they went five and two, but it puts them in
a very precurious spot. It puts DUBIS in a very
tricky spot if this continues, if this is a trend,
if they stay in the top three of the metro
come that Thanksgiving date, I don't know what they do either.
Carlson's playing himself into having some decent trade value now,
like you'd have to think a team out there.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
I think I brought this up, you know, I cast
this plane so good and so for him fundamentally sound. Yeah,
he was really pissed that he wasn't one of the
first sixth announced for the Swedish Olympic team.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
It's very important to him, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
Very more more important than playing good here when it
is Stanley Cup.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
You saw that at the Four Nations. You saw Carlson
for that tournament play a lot better, more structured for
him than you did at any point when he was
playing for the Penguins. Uh. Maybe he is tapping into
that Olympic year thing more so than he is playing
for a new coach. He doesn't care about the new coach.
Small Liverpool started lineup is today.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Andrew Robertson's like five foot eight and he like towers
over over Vertz and Frimpong.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Does Einkracht Frankfurt have a lot of height? Is that
a worry for you?

Speaker 1 (35:39):
I the only player on their team that I really
knew we got oh oh they have getsy oh man,
he's past his prime.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
He used to be Mario Getsei. He was on Byron
for a while.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Very famous photograph of him sitting with his girlfriend on
a boat wearing a speedo, in which he was clearly
shall we say, up for the chain.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
That was everywhere in the papers and espeeda. Yes nice,
Yes you're in Germany today. Huh Liverpool had to travel
into the German state.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
Well, yeah, we we at Kentucky played for Eintracht last year,
so he's playing, which I think is a good move.
In Frimpong and Vertz played in I Bundesliga next year
and they're in there too. I think they're familiarity with.
This hopefully gets us our first win in five games and.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
On the bench.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
Yeah no Mo, well not, I didn't mean that, isn't
no mo. Blood stains the avreas on my daddy's baby.
Grand ain't seen midnight since we started this band. No mow,
no more Little Aerosmith. Here on the X and I'll
