Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm joined now by Tommy Radio, who was fired yesterday
but it's back today.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Tom.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
How convinced are you by last night's win? It felt
like the second half was excellent for the Steelers. I
also felt like Miami collapsed.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
It's a great win.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
I don't want to come in here on Tuesday and
take away from it, but I don't think Miami was
as good as that four game winning streak that they
were on kind of might have deceived people into thinking
they were well.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I think they were that good, but against bad teams.
I think they beat who they should very fair, and
then they didn't beat the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Right, they pull an upset up against Buffalo two to
kind of start that four game streak. But I still
think people are getting ahead of themselves prematurely. Surprise, surprise.
Why don't we wait until we see what happens in
Detroit before we know for sure what these Steelers could
be in these next couple weeks and leading into the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
That's a real test. I know that, I know. No,
I think Detroit is a real test.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yes, that said, I think, and we'll talk more about this,
but I think it's sitting up well. The Steelers to
win the game because Detroit's DB's.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Are all hurt. You know, they got great offense.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yes, they score more points than anybody, but I don't
it just feels like a game the Steelers could win.
Detroit's eight and six. I think the blooms off their rows.
They're not as good without the coordinators that they lost
in the offseason. Campbell's more of a motivator, but also
a lot of a meathead, So I don't know what
it feels.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Ripe wouldn't be surprised if that's what the Lions do
this offseason, move in a different direction with their coordinators,
kind of shuffle the deck there, because you're right, they
just retain guys, right, they're just demoted, Yeah, promoted from within,
and they're clearly lacking on both sides of the ball.
That being said, they're much closer to a Super Bowl
contender than the Steelers are. NFC is just so deep.
They just might be out of luck this season, a

(01:47):
lost season in the Jared Goff Dan Campbell window for them.
It's just a problem to me to trust the Steelers
run defense still, and that's what it's gonna come down
to against Detroit because they're gonna try to run it
down your throat with Jamiir Gibbs and Montgomery, and you
had a great showing against the Dolphins in that department,
but you're too inconsistent there for me to trust it
to go to Detroit and play well again.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
And it's indoors, it's on the road.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
There's a lot of factors. Detroit's obviously a much better
team than Miami, although again the record doesn't reply at
this point. You are what you are and all the
Lions are is eight and six. We'll talk more about
that game in a bit, but Gainwell was the man,
and he's an example of how Rogers can get enamored
with lower level players and you know, elevate them to

(02:30):
some degree.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Anyway, he just kept feeding Gainwell.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, but when they do that mark and they show
commitment to Gainwell, it pays dividends for their running game
in Dublin.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
When anybody any running back in the running game in general,
it's they gotta do it.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Warren was very blah last night, but he was sick. Yes,
I think he was sick. I think he was dealing
with something. But anytime that Gainwell seems to kind of
become that quote unquote feature guy in the running game.
He works really well for that, so I would lean
on that more moving forward.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, maybe I still think less is more with a
guy like gain Well, and I think he's proven that
over the course of his career. I think he's a
good backup, but a backup nonetheless.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Not trying to bench Warren. Yeah, he still needs to play.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
As I mentioned, the offense was vanilla, but it was
good vanillah. But the defense was intense full credit where
it's too. Good numbers and their most physical game of
the year. Even Patrick Queen was flying around out there.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
No, it was an awesome performance from the defense. No wa,
no harmon.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Are they better without TJ?

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Watts?

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Do you get that radio? He takes no.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
No, But I think he's out for the season, so
they're gonna have to be.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I thought her Big was quiet.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
He made that one tackle almost by the seat of
his pants that might have kept the A train from
going the distance. But I thought those three guys, the
edge guys, were only okay, you know, you know what.
The best stats of the three the modern day warrior
Jack Sawyer.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
He's a good run.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
I think there might have been some special teams tackles
play special teams. Correct, you have had some special teams tackles,
but those guys were quiet.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Then again, maybe they contained.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
He's a good run stuff for Jack Sawyer. That's really
what you drafted him for. It wasn't really a pass
rush game against Tua and the Dolphins. They run the
ball a ton and anytime Tua does drop back to pass,
it's a lot of quick stuff that McDaniel schemes up.
You know, that backfoot hits and that ball needs to
be out. Look, I was joking when I said are
they better without TJ.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Watt?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
But let's see over these next couple of weeks, because
I don't think it's disputable that wat has lost a
step and high Smith and herbig are faster coming off
of that ball than what is So I wouldn't be
surprised in a game against golf coming up where you
actually need more of a pass rush, but they wouldn't thrive.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
How about when DK shrugged off Mika just blasted him
on the way to the end zone.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
That was good stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
It reminded me of when Derrick Henry shoved Minca into
the dirt last year in Minca's last game as a Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Its finding me when DK Metcalfe used to do stuff
like that for Settle with Seattle.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, but it's just the Mica Fitzpatrick just it's such
a tough go with these stiff arms against these big players.
But yeah, that's finally what you're asking for with DK
two straight weeks where you're getting your money's worth. Now,
the ball wasn't exactly there, but he had big impactful
catches in that game.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Rogers was very efficient. Full credit Once again, the word
is vanilla. He also kept adding and doing different and
doing better and getting more guys involved as the game
went on. Maybe he's playing chess and they're playing checkers.
We got some sound later. I think it's Kyle Brandt
talked about how this was a vintage Rogers game.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
No, it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
It was a real good forty two year old quarterbacks game,
but nonetheless very good.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
I think it was vintage in the aspect of, you know,
it's two degrees outside and you can't really just be
dropping back and throwing for like five hundred yards four
touchdowns in that weather. I mean, maybe sometimes you can
if you're Rodgers in your prime, but you got to
really rely on savviness in games like that, and his
efficiency was incredible throughout that entire game, incomplete command. It
was like two quarterbacks on the other ends of the

(05:48):
spectrum last night, one just completely in command of everything
and one that just looked like he was in quicksand
all night long.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
The team is so old.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
The Steelers are so old after the game, looks like
old men at a retirement home celebrating a win at
shuffle boarder bingo.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I mean, especially Rogers.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Well, and then I love the sound too from Rogers
after the game, where he's like rattling off the island
of misfit toys that they have like a bunch of
cast off.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Which is a bunch of bs. We're gonna play that
song later. It's a bunch of bs. And then he
said I'm not a cast off. Well, of course you are.
You got cut by the.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Jets want you dude.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Hey, that was a mistake by then, don't get me wrong,
but you are by definition of cast off.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I don't think it was a mistake.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
By No, they're terrible, but they're just not moving forward
with an old guy like him at quarterback, just like
the Steelers aren't moving forward.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
It's whenever you get a guy.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Of that age, whether it's Rogers, Rivers now with Indy, whoever,
it's a stop gap.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Well, the Jets will never move forward, so they'll take anything.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Like I said, I am impressed by the win. I
still don't see the Steelers winning a playoff game. The
only matchup that's possible, well, I mean there's a lot possible,
but of the three teams most likely, the only matchup
I don't hate is a team that already killed the
Steelers this year, and that's the LA Chargers.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
I think they could beat the Chargers in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
You hate Jacksonville. You're nervous about Jacksonville if they somehow
snuck into that five seed spot, which is very likely
their ten win team right now, What I mean, why
do you say that's likely that they could get the
five seed. They have ten wins, they're right in the
hunt with Buffalo and with the Chargers. They're a good team,
they're playing great football. I think of those teams, they're
the likeliest to fade to not be the five seed.
You know, you're one win away. If they win this
week and the Colts lose, they're in they're locked into

(07:26):
a playoff spot. So the fade maybe out of that scenario,
but not out of the playoff picture. The Jags will
be in the playoffs this year.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Well, who's winning that division? The Jags, Houston.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
There's still Houston's probably going to catch up to the
Jags do But right now it's Houston. No, right now,
it's Jacksonville in the first place spot for no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
But but Houston's a wild card, right Houston, because the
Steels wouldn't beat Euston, defense, would break Rogers in half.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
No chance. I think Houston might break everybody in half.
Houston might be my pick to go to the Super
Bowl this year. Houston Buffalo feels like the answer.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Chagion in a very disjointed AFC. I do think Houston
could could make a run. No, I I'd be okay
with playing Jacksonville. I think that would be a toss
up in order of preference. Okay, of the teams, I
would like to play LA Chargers first, Jacksonville two, Houston
a Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Not at all under any Stark stagreed.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
I completely agree with that the Chargers that the tackle
injuries are gonna catch up to them. Eventually, and Herbert
is just really banged up and battling through a lot
right now.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Like if the Steelers played the Bills best to seven,
the Steelers the Buffalo team, the Buffalo would win in four,
they'd sweep them. And if the Steelers played Houston, it
wouldn't go for it because Houston would have killed too
many guys on the Steelers offense, because not only is
their defense great, Tom, it is unbelievably physical. Yeah, it's
like it like people always pretend the Steelers had this

(08:43):
old school mentality, and they were very physical last night,
full credit, yes, but Houston's like that every week they
f you up.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
And with also his old school and kind of old
school Steelers. Just about them is they do line up
and just say beat us. We're not gonna disguise anything.
We're not gonna, you know, trick you with coverages. We're
not gonna blit. It's just a four man rush and
the people that you see pre snap that's going to
cover that receiver. That's what's gonna happen, and you're not
gonna be able to beat it anyway. That's intimidating.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
We'll be back with more Steeler talk some of the stuff,
Aaron Rodgers said, is interesting and of course we got
the Penguins hosting Edmonton tonight. Can you imagine if the
Penguins lead three to nil at the end of two,
it will be squeaky bum time all over again. That said,
it might be six nil Edmondon and McDavid will have
five points oh five nine.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
It's the Mark Mann Show on one O five nine
d X.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I'm excited about the Steeler win, make no mistake, but
the overreaction is well underweight, like it is after every
single time they win. Aaron Rodgers said, Hopefully the belief
is starting to pick up on quote, well, are you
trying to convince yes or are you trying to convince

(10:01):
yourself the locker room. I mean it's week sixteen coming up.
In terms of marshaling some additional belief, I guess it's
now or never. I believe the Dolphins being bummy had
a lot to do with what happened last night, especially
in the second half. But full credit, the Steelers did
pick up the opportunity and absolutely take over that touchdown

(10:25):
at the end of the first half to take a
seven to three lead, salvage the craft first half If
they had gone to the intermission don three nil, that
would not have been good. That would have been a
bad locker room. But the touchdown at the end of
the first half picked him up. And then they took
the kickoff to open the second half and went right
down and scored. Game over. Game over. I said it

(10:47):
then game over, And you know what, the weirdest part
of the whole game might have been. I mentioned this
at the top of the show. The Steelers dominated Miami
physically and did so big time. When's the last time
the Steelers did that. Patrick Queen even looked like a
football player, made some hits. He was flying around. Here's

(11:08):
the PostScript to the game, Tom, did you see who
got released today by the New York Jets?

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I did, Mark. It's very exciting. Do you think he's
going to be coming to Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Let's say who it is. If you're just tuning in,
this is the breaking news. Alan Lazar released by the
Jets at his request. It makes you wonder if Uncle
Aaron weren't on the phone to Alan Lazard say hey,
come on down here and join the gang and f Calvin, Austin,
f Roman, Wilson fam You know but but I hope

(11:37):
they don't do that.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
It would not surprise me if they did.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
It would not surprise me one bit if they did,
because this is so clearly Rogers is doing this overhaul
that's happening in the receiving room. He did the right
thing publicly in training camping throughout the season, saying he
likes Austin, he likes Roman Wilson. He clearly does not.
That's people sure, probably I don't.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Think he likes John new and from Maybe I got
involved more last night, but that but some of that
was garbagee time and they gave John who the carry
for the touchdown late, But it's not like those two
guys were involved. They love the fat kid, and I
think Rogers loves the fat kid too.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
I think he's the driving force behind that driving force
behind MVS and theland being here. Would not be surprised
if Alan Lazard comes in and Calvin Austen maybe becomes
a scratch.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Rogers, as I mentioned, wants the belief to pick up.
It is two wins in a row for the first
time in a couple months. They are in first place
in AFC North. Is it anything to get excited about?
Like I mentioned, didn't it sound like he was trying
to talk himself into it.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
It is something to get slightly excited about because at
least they're not completely spinning out the ya.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
That's how I described it, Tom, slightly.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Excited, slightly excited because you're not spinning out, which of
my age, is the best I can do. Last year,
it just completely went to crap on the death stretch.
It didn't happen this year in that case. Now the
schedule's not as tough as it was last year, but
still it just all comes down to this game for
me on Sunday. Even if you lose this game to Detroit,
but it's like it's a good game and you play
really good football. I have a little bit more belief

(13:04):
going down the stretch. And then if you follow that
up by beating the Browns and the Ravens to go
into the playoffs, yeah, I think you can get the
playoff win. I think you can accomplish that if the
matchup falls in your face.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Let me tell you where I would believe they get
the playoff win. If they win out, yeah, beat the Lions.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
If they beat the Lions, beat Cleveland, beat Baltimore, then
they have five wins in a row, then it would
be a little bit little bit reminiscent of two thousand
and five, although that team was on the rise.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Yeah, this team is a bunch of senior citizens.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Quarterback was in his second year. Then, yeah, it's a
completely different thing, would it. You put it past them
to do their typical thing, go to Detroit, beat the Lions,
have this tidal wave of momentum, and lose the game
in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Like, so, I mean, is the best quarterback in the league.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
That's a tough one. Yeah, so that's possible. No, I
think it would surprise me less if they lose the next.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Two after Detroit.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
If they if you made me predict what's going to happen,
they lose at Detroit narrowly and win at Cleveland narrowly.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
My most second most likely prediction is they lose too straight,
and the others that they win too straight. But I
think any of those three legitimately could happen. I think
it's that kind of team and that kind of year.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
I think the probability will tell you that they would
lose to the Detroit Lions, and then they'd probably beat
the Browns and beat the Ravens to finish out. But
I feel like that's the least likely of what's going
to happen, Even though if the odds might say that
is what should happen, I just don't see it playing
that way.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
I'm told Wat is out for the year. Tom. Can
the Steelers win playoff games without what?

Speaker 4 (14:31):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
They don't win playoff games with TJ.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Watt?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
What's the difference?

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Very well?

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Put You know what's amazing is the Steelers got their
four string left tackle in there, and the O line
doesn't stink. We very often criticize that offensive line and
the coaching and the fact that a lot of their
younger players weren't progressing a tackle in particular, but now
it is coalescing. I give a lot of credit at

(14:56):
propping up the four string left tackle in this case
still and cook to Isaac Ciamalo would guard on the
left side. But now he is going to be limited
this week, and god forbid, he can't play at Detroit.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
That's a huge worry because he clearly is the anchor
for that entire offensive line. You want Fatano to become
that at some point. You would love love Proderck Jones
at one point to become that guy. He probably never will,
but right now at Ciamalo, he's your best offensive lineman.
He's kind of that driving force there, and you're right
what he's been able to do with Jones when he
was healthy, making that transition as smooth as you could

(15:27):
possibly have it, I think with Broderick Jones not being
that good of a left tackle, I think and now
with Dylan Cook, Andrew's Pete, whoever's out there, he really
seems to be lifting them up and elevating them. But
it gets a lot harder if he's not able to go.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Now on the defensive side of the line, how do
you think the Steelers shut down a pretty good Miami
running game not having a watt and harmon.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
I think a lot of it had to do with
the Dolphins just not committing to the run. Now they
weren't converting on third downs. Miami was actually looking like
the Steelers offense looked at a long portion of the
season where they just couldn't convert and stay on the field,
and they weren't running a lot of plays, but they
averaged a decent amount on the ground, Like a Chane
had twelve carries for sixty yards. He wasn't exactly, you know,
getting stuffed every single time.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Oh that's five yards of carry. That's great.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
I think a lack of commitment for the Dolphins definitely
played into this.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Now, you got out to a big lead, so it's.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Funny because the Dolphins dropped their commitment, the Steelers finally
held theirs with the run game.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
You forced them to do that though, because you got
out to the lead fourteen to three, the double score
at halftime and coming out of the locker room, so
you forced them to have to throw the football, which
is great. Big part of this was doing that. And
you know how a lot of times Mark you say
you want to dominate time of possession to keep a
great quarterback off the field. They kind of did that,
but with a great running game, they just didn't give
the Dolphins the opportunities to use it a lot.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, the Steelers actually one time of possession helpfully. Yeah,
first time, long time. How about the first two touchdowns
were both scored by mascots Tom Connor, Hayward the Brother
Act and then MBS who was Rogers's caddy. That inspired me.
I said, if they can anybody could do it. That
is America. In a nutshell.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
It's a really unpopular take to have today after what
he did yesterday. But the Connor Hayward thing is so stupid.
It's just so stupid.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
You know what else is weird? When they do the
tush push with him? Why is Rogers on the field?
Rodgers is lined up behind the tush push? Why don't
you get an extra blocker in there?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Is it the deception so that the team, you know,
the defense doesn't think.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
I think he just wants to be out there to
signal touchdop.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
He does look really stoic back there when he stands
with his hands on his hips. I do like that image.
But it's just annoying to me, to be quite honest
with you, that we've manufactured a way to give Connor
Hayward a roll and get him on the field, because
how many people could do that?

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Mark Pat Fairemerth couldn't take a snap and do that.
Connor Hayward wouldn't be on the team, he wasn't. Cam's correct.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Rather, when I say he's a mascot, I mean that
seriously and literally. Why not you stealing mcbeam for the
tush push? Next we're to talk about the penguins and
how they can stop choking. Tom, here's a joke you
missed from yesterday. I said, perhaps the penguins need to
call into Lovelace. And then I said, well, now hold it.
She never choked. In fact, that was the point of

(18:02):
that movie one oh five ninety X.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
It's they show.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Weekday mornings at six on one oh five.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Nine X ninety four point five three WUS christ Christmas
Music Station.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
We'll go commercial free starting Christmas Eve at noon all
the way through Christmas Day. Enjoyed NonStop Christmas musicular Christmas Street.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
And Christmas with your family and friends.

Speaker 5 (18:35):
Butt you by Giant Eagle, Edgar Snyder and associates, and
only on ninety four point five three WS, get your.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
Mother, love and ear zone because you're doing free game
shout on one oh five nine d X Bang was
hosting Edmonton tonight and this game has crazy story. Crosby
two points behind Mario for career scoring Crosby versus McDavid.

(19:07):
Jarry is back planning for Edmonton. He's starting against Stuart Skinner,
who came to Pittsburgh in the Jari deal. Jari will
still be wearing his Penguins mask. Skinner will still be
wearing his oiler's mask. I don't know that that matters,
but it kind of worries me for reasons I can't
put my finger on. Will the Penguins collapse in the
third period again after what happened over the weekend and

(19:31):
really dating back to four of the last five games,
Or will McDavid just get six points and the Oilers
will blow them out? Because I fear that that could happen.
Like I said, it's going to be Skinner versus Jarry,
the defenseman that came over from Edmonton going to be

(19:52):
in there. He's partnered with Saint Ivany Covenan scratched. So
very interesting game tonight. Oh why am i Kulak is
a Brett?

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Why am I freezing on that? Because I'm old? And
see now he's going.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
To be wearing number seventy seven and the last pen
was defenseman to wear that was Paul Coffee.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
But Kulac played for Coffee.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
When he was an assistant in coach in Edmonton, and
Coffee apparently gave permission. Tom, what's the most compelling storyline tonight?
I'd say it's Sid trying to catch Mario and Mario
is going to be there.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
I guess you'd have to go with that just because
of what it means for Sid and where he ranks
in the all time greatness of this league and passing Mario.
It's so poetic. But the Jari verse Skinner thing is great,
and I'm so glad that the teams did it, and
you know, one coach didn't decide to go with another
goaltender to kind of shy away from that drama, because
it's awesome, and that's what sports are supposed to be
about sometimes, is the entertainment in that little drama.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Quick reminds me.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Of when the Pirates in Detroit had a chance to
start Skiens against Skeens versus Schoobale Scooble.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
And they just it was a doubleheader.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
They just decided to put them in opposite games to
have a better chance of winning at least one game,
which showed no appreciation for entertainment value or the romance sports.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Same thing happened with Otani too, with the Dodgers had
a chance to pitch him against Skens. It's terrible that
that happens. I'm glad it's not tonight now.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
The chase with Sid just two points behind Mario. It's
being understated. It's a top five player chasing a top
one player, And for a long time I never thought
it could happen.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Then I thought it might happen, and then a.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Few years back it just became inevitable because Sid's the
most consistent.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Hockey player of all time.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
And it really just puts into perspective too when you
look at the Penguins franchise, just how loaded they are
with superstars, I mean, top tier players.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
It was the.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Champagne's franchised, like I said yesterday, when you were wasn't
fired or suspense. I was fired yesterday, Like I said yesterday.
Who cares who the leading score is for? Like New
Jersey or Carolina or Saint Louis. I'm not even sure
who they are, no.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Mean either, but it matters to be the leading scorer here,
and it's a tough for lists to climb since passing Mario,
probably he probably did it tonight. You know, I wouldn't
put it past him to get two points tonight and
just finish it off.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Well, what worries me is he does it tonight, but
the Penguins lose, which will put a real damper on it.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Then again, would it be better if he did it
on the road.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
Yeah, because they go on the road trip after this.
I don't know, it might be pretty nice to have
it happen at home with Lemieux in the crowd. Either way,
it's it's gonna be magical whenever it does happen, and
it's unbelievable that we're gonna get to see this and
then it's not you know, the end either because yeah,
he's gonna pass them you but I sincerely think he's
gonna have sights on Yager soon to become the second.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
I think SIDS could have a chance at two thousand points.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
And how about Sid will pass Mario in goals eventually,
which will be that's insane weird because that's the one
thing I didn't think would happen with Mario having six'
ninety AND i think being the greatest goalscorer of all.
Time you know what else will be magical tom tonight
is The Tristan jarry tribute, video because beyond.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
The goalie, goal it's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
FICTION i, mean we're the gonna show him conceding in
over time against The rangers In game, seven coughing up
The bailey to blow that series against The islanders in twenty.
One maybe a montage of last year when he allowed
the first shot to go in six.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Times not everybody deserves a. Tribute do you think they'll
do a full? Video do you think they'll do the
full video? Montage?

Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yes see the way to go about.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
It you know, WHY i think the dressing room expects
on his behalf the way to go about the dressing
room always Overestimated Tristan, jarry maybe because they liked.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
HIM i would just throw up a Thanks tristan and you,
know like a nice still shot picture of him and
The penguin's logo on the screen and say welcome Back Tristan.
Jerry then maybe show him in the net For edmonton
and give him a nice little crowd. Pop because what
you just said is so. True what's gonna be in
the highlight. Reel it's just gonna be a bunch OF
randomi the goalie, goal, sure but then other than, that
it's just random.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Saves For tuesday nights Against, BUFFALO i.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
Would just show the goalie goal and then have a
caption as they show, him like you, said in goal For,
edmonton f one out.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
Of, here.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Jars if The penguins lead at the second, intermission the
tension will be, insane like hiding From Michael myers in
A halloween.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Movie it's so in their heads, too. RIGHT i think
you noted that On twitter during The utah, GAME i.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
Predicted when it was three to nothing end of two
Against utah that they would lose in the press box.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
LOUDLY i had a buddy that threw five bucks On
Utah live and one one hundred bucks off of. THAT
i have a buddy threw one hundred bucks On Utah
live twenty six. Hundred oh, yeah it would have been
in the thousands for. Sure so great move. There really
jealous THAT i didn't get on board with. That Maybe
i'll have the opportunity. Tonight do you think they would
almost as a dressing, room like to go into the
third period down like two to one or.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Something like that.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
TIME i mean the ideal scenario is to go into
the third period. Tide, yeah which begs the, Question, tom
how do you stop the? Choking And i'm asking that
rhetorically BECAUSE i know there's not a tangible. ANSWER i
really won't stop until it just, happens and maybe the
other team has to just play a bad third period
to help. You but no team's gonna slack off trailing

(24:59):
in the third against The penguins right.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
Now of. Course AND i guess tactically, speaking i'd stop
Throwing lettang And carlson out there together to try to ice.
LEADS i, MEAN i don't understand why that's something that
damn use keeps trying to.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Do the MORE i think about, it the MORE i
blame those two for not playing well in that. SITUATION
i do muse for putting an out there. Together now that,
said IF i were, MUSED i wouldn't do. It now
it's time to SAY i need better from those.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Two that's, fair, okay if you wanted to experiment with
that and, say, hey these are two really all time
Great players's gonna be in The hall Of fame one,
day both of these, Guys let's see if they can
address their style and help us close out these.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Leads they're not doing, it, though so it's time to.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Stop they're just not going to adjust their style under any.
Circumstances they could be fifty years. Old no matter what
the scoring situation, are those two are going to play
as they want to and as the, coach you have
to recognize that and deploy accordingly to, me if you
got a lead in the, third you gotta get, it
don low and, grind get that clock move and don't

(25:56):
always attack as The penguins you want to. Do But
sit was right after the game On, SUNDAY i watched
the third period Against utah over, again AND i made
fun of, said not made, fun BUT i, Said sid
said they lay back too, much AND i thought that's.
Ridiculous but in that third, period at first they attacked too.
Much then they did lay back too, much and they
didn't really trap, Either tom they just laid.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Back it was very.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
DISORGANIZED i Mean, uta it was just overwhelming in that.
Game well it took him seven minutes to not just you,
know tie it tick the lead in that Game. Utah
SO i, mean, yeah The, penguins it was a crappy
third period, there AND i would you can't just be
on the offensive over and over and over again because
that's bitten them in the. Past but there is something,
too like you're saying What sid, said like you can't
just go into a complete conservative. Shell you have to

(26:41):
try to get that fourth. Goal what worries me Is
edmonton comes Into pittsburgh and blows them. OUT i think
that could happen Because edmonton's can't. Score edmonton can. Score
they're not feeling desperate right. Now The west is a
lot weaker than The east when you look at the.
Stands with the, STANDINGS i don't care what the standings.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
Say the two or three teams that missed the playoffs
in The, east if you transplanted them to the excuse,
me the two teams that missed the playoffs in The,
west two or, three if you transplanted them to The
east and had them obviously play there all, season they
would be like the, third, fourth and fifth seeds in The.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
East The. Sharks you think they would do that in The, East, yes,
REALLY i think.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
THAT i think they make the. Playoffs, OH i think
they would for sure make the.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Playoffs they might make the playff in The west right,
now The sharks are spot right, now the second wild.
CARD i think you're underestimating The. West my point being,
though Is edmonton only has thirty six points this. Year
they're thriving, early so they might feel a little desperation
to turn it on.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Now my one good thing about The penguins right now
Is kendolyn. McGroarty you're playing very well and they're finally
seeing that translate into.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Production, yeah AND i like that, they're you, know putting
them on the second line now With malkin's. Absence you
just have to do. That they need more ice. Time
that is your second best line Without malkin out. There
And i'm.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
EXCITED i. DON'T i feel bad For coven and getting,
scratched but he hasn't played, well he hasn't been.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Scoring he's got a score.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
And braso with the with with.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
And not only, that he's changed their game just slightly
and for the, better like a little, tighter a little less,
perimeter a little more, physical a little more net.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
FRONT i just worry that we're never gonna see this
team fully healthy and see the lines completely fit.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Together, yeah but how many times did you see any
teven any short very completely. Healthy i'll tell you What
i'm psyched. About, Though Jack Saint ivany in the lineup.
TONIGHT i love him because last year when somebody was Hassling,
city came off the bench and went after him somehow
didn't get. Suspended If I'm jackson And, IVANY i pick
a fight. Tonight for, SURE i show THAT i offer
something that others are.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Unwilling.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
YEAH i like having that sand in The penguin's lineup
at the bottom of their. Lineup that's WHY i liked
Having boco up. Here i'm surprised that he hasn't been
up here since that stretched when he had a couple of.
Games he played well against The.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Flyers you, Know Jack Saint ivany reminds me Of David
Saint hoven's living in a.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
HELL i couldn't get that high.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
ONE o five to nine from The Dollar Energy Fund Weather.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
Center this report Is Sponsoredvice Super sure ye show it's
time to give that whip a. Crack i'm gonna have
to send you back to bitch. SCHOOL i want such
a spinal tap. Kick that's from the album between the

(29:16):
Movies Bitch, skull which is about training a. Dog Uh.
Tom by the, way this hour brought to us By,
Shandroovic schendrovic And. Fisherman they got your, back not your, Wallet.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Tom what do we got for the?

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Trifecta for today's trifecta off of The steelers great win,
YESTERDAY i got three things That i'm really encouraged. It
it was a great win three encouraging things from the.
Offense for, Me number, THREE i liked seeing How Dylan
cooked look for a second straight. Week And tom The today,
said When pete's back will. Reevaluate forget. That who cares
About andrew's P just ride the hot.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Hand Dylan cook has earned the right to stay in
there over anybody But Broderick. Jones, correct And jones isn't
coming back this. Year You Spencer anderson gets, healthy leave
him for the jumbo. PACKAGE i don't think they used
the jump package that must last.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Night did?

Speaker 3 (30:01):
They i'd have to go back and double, check but
it didn't feel like. It, yeah the fact kid in
there so didn't feel like they. NEEDED i mean just
that fat, enough. Uh number, two speaking of, that is
the commitment that they showed to the run.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
Game they out.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Ran they ran the ball more than they threw the.
Ball twenty seven passes For, rogers thirty two rushing. Attempts
it was very successful on the ground north of one hundred,
yards you were able to control the. Game you finally
won time of. Possession it was perfect AND i hope
it shows, Them, hey this can be our path forward
here In, december let's become a run first football.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Team, YEAH i think that sometimes in their effort to
fold the other, team they fooled. Themselves but last NIGHT
i Thought rogers was playing chess the whole. Game so
AND i do think he's totally taken over the.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Offense.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Now the last thing That i'm slightly encouraged by, Here
number one is that they were Targeting. Firemouth he had
five targets in that. Game he converted three of them to.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Ketches but when was the? First one was late in the.
Game that's my.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Point he just got garbage. Stuff but at least he
had five. Targets let's see that happen. More six seven
needs To if it doesn't, happen.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
They don't have a secondary option and to play kate,
him and that's why they Gave johnny that carry.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
For you think he's making, Noise Pat, Fryarmouth.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
No, no, NO i just think they don't want him
to make, noise not at least after they get rid of.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
HIM i don't think he'll be here.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Next, year trade trade candidate in the off. Season you
think he's very, tradable no. Doubt he strikes me as
somebody that definitely wouldn't make that much, Noise but he
might be the one that deserves to make the most
noise out of That steelers offense BECAUSE i don't think
he's a great tight, End don't get me, Wrong BUT
i do think it's more of a usage problem than
a talent.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
PROBLEM i think he's the best tight end they. HAVE
i think.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
THAT i think they overpaid. HIM i don't think they
needed to retain, him BUT i think he's the best
tight end they. Have if you're gonna have this tight
end based, offense he should be in there ahead Of.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Fatso and don't you think if he does get traded
in the, offseason he'll be another example of A steeler
that goes to greener pastures and he'll have like an
eight hundred yard season or something like that without six. Touchdowns,
NO i don't think. SO i just don't think he's that,
good like a fringe top ten tight.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
End you don't think.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
THAT i think after having been benched this year For Darnhell,
Washington i'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
That the man for him is going to be that.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
High that's A steelers. Thing he ain't no young guy,
either he should not be For. Darnell he's probably still
on the right side of. Thirty i'll double check. That
but he should not be bench For. Darnell you agree with,
that it should not played out that way for him?
Here still got a freak still, Right, yeah he'll be
in some demand by. Well all it takes is one, Team,
yeah no, Doubt.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
TOM i want to talk about a phenomenon we stumbled
upon today because we have some high muckety buck here
for my heart, media and they had a luncheon for, him,
uh catered By. PRIMANNY'S i met the, guy nice, guy
never heard of me and, uh and they had these
mini sandwiches From.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
PREMANNY'S i, did, like did you see?

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Them, yeah that's permanny?

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Sliders, yeah, yeah even smaller than that though almost like,
yeah like not even as big as your standard. Slider
AND i didn't have any Because i'm doing the uh
you awakened one to, Eighty but WELL i had you
know WHAT i did? DO I i took a couple
of the. SLIDER i just took the meat off and
ate the meat BECAUSE i can do.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
That but did you have?

Speaker 3 (32:55):
ANY i have a couple of sliders waiting for me
in another studio here That i'm gonna have ONCE i
hop off the air with. YOU i can't. Wait they
look pretty. Good they look pretty. Good, YEAH i have
seen this before at like, weddings some people have had
like A primanny's table after the reception with a lot
of small sandwich you can grab. It isn't that a brilliant? Idea,
no you gotta have a cookie. Table oh, no that's
doing the wedding. Market this Is i'm talking. About this is.

(33:16):
Midnight this is when you're. Leaving this is when you're.
Drunk three sheets to the. Wind need that, meat need
that bread to soak it all. Up, no that's that's good.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Strategy but they have the MINI i, mean When i'm
drunk AND i need something to soak up the, BOOZE
i want the Big primanny.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
Sandwich that's actually a great, point because you're honestly gonna
end up eating enough minies to equal a big and at.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
That point it's ceremonial to you want that big hunka
whatever is in the, bread and you just want to
make kind of a.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
Mess, no don't want to be dainty with the. SLIDER
i want the knife coming to me. Too you know
how they bring the big knife to You sometimes That
primanny's sticking right out of the. Sandwich let me go
to town on.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
That, yeah, no, no, no no. Question.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Uh the trifecta brought was By danny's Patron, Hogies pittsburgh's
original Oven Big togy since nineteen sixty That's dandy's On
root eighty eight And Bethel Park. Tom to get back
to the POINT i made at the opening of the,
program it was a convincing. Win i'm not convinced by
where they think they're, at although they were kind of.

(34:12):
CONFLICTING i flip back and forth this morning Because i'm
an idiot AND i don't know WHY i do.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
It it just aggravates.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Me but Between Get up And Good Morning, football Get
up was cautiously optimistic about The steelers moving. Forward Good
Morning football was, like, oh these guys can win playoff.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Games where do you.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Stand i'm not ready to say these guys can win playoff.
Games i'm more on the cautiously optimistic side of things
because it was their best performance of the season coming
off a game THAT i think we were saying was
also their best performance of the season after The baltimore,
Game so it does look like they're building towards something
but this is a heavyweight. Fight, now this is a
step up Against. Detroit it really is going to tell a.

(34:47):
Tale how you look in that game on the road against, Them.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Do you Think week eighteen Against baltimore will be a meaningful?

Speaker 3 (34:53):
Game baltimore won twenty four to nothing against The, bengals
BUT i wasn't impressed by The. Ravens The Bengals tomorro
Thanks burrough lost that.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Game After burrows you know deaf scene From.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Camille he went out there and made himself LIKE i
thought foolish by playing really.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
BAD i and the quarterback was talking about how he
doesn't want to play anymore in the middle of the.
Week of, course The bengals played like a team dead
in the, water SO i didn't tell us.

Speaker 1 (35:14):
Anything, yeah but by the same, TOKEN i would have
gone him like in the middle of the second course and,
look we don't.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Want you to play anymore either this. Week this week's
as good as he.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Is he was that.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
BAD i hate to take the cop out and, say,
oh it's wait and, see but this week's gonna be.
Huge steelers At, Lions patriots go To baltimore For Sunday night.
Football after that, game if The ravens beat The, patriots
that game is gonna Matter week.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Eighteen, yeah either, way no matter what The, steels no
matter what The steelers. Do if The ravens beat The, patriots,
yeah you know What i'm hoping. For BUT i think
last Night's steeler win kind of put paid to. THIS
i wanted them to both be eight to, nine eight
and eight going to the last, game and then if
The steelers, win they win the. Division if they, lose,

(35:53):
no uh non losing.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Season you Need cleveland to help you out there because
they're gonna lose To. Detroit i'm pretty predisposed to think
that that's gonna. Happen maybe a close, game but you
need To cleveland to deliver for you there for that
scenario to play out.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Doors sanders is your, Hope, mark he always has, Been
uh up, next well over. You we have calls on
the fifteens at by the, Way. TOM i had one
of our superiors here at the station, Saying i'm surprised
we don't have like calls on the fifteen, sponsored to
WHICH i, said, Yeah so anyway you can call and

(36:27):
get get in line for calls on the fifteens dial eight,
three three four one TWO wsdx your take on The
steelers win last. Night that's pretty, elementary but are you
convinced they can win playoff? Games and, again what? OPPONENT i.
Mean there's so many, variables but my general answer is.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
No what's? Yours one oh five to nine
