(00:00):
Let's begin the show by starting it. Look at us, Hey, look
at us, Look at us.Who would have thought not me? Shoe,

(00:45):
oh, shoe? Is our time? That is two minutes past two
pm Central daylight time, according tothe Tower of the Friendly Mercantile. Your

(01:06):
tuner is set to the radio phenomenonsweeping the area ninety seven one the Freak.
This is the speakeasy warmest greetings toone and all, no matter where
you are, no matter how youmay be receiving this radio transmission, We're

(01:29):
glad to have you with us thisafternoon. It is Tuesday, the ninth
of April, as we emanate livefrom the nurturing biosphere of the mother Ship.
I would be Mike Reiner. JeffKavanaugh is here, Julie Dobbs is

(01:51):
with us. And over there atthe helm it is shooting, and we
are locked in, loaded, aerodynamic, and ready to roll, to proceed
on and sally forth in that waythat we do. We must advise everybody
this is gonna be a little shorttoday, hope, because we gotta make

(02:15):
way for Mavericks basketball gorself. It'sright the words of the Great Levi Stubbs
ring true once again. They're emanatingfrom the Eastern time zone today. I
believe Charlotte, Charlotte, they're notvery good, and Luke and Kyrie are
gonna play despite being very tired. They're gonna play. Okay, that shows

(02:39):
a little stick to itiveness. Yeah, but I don't think too many people
question these stick to itiveness of thisteam. This year. They've shown they
can fight through whatever they have tofight through. I'm rather high on this
thing. Yeah, this thing's good. I was thinking that this might be
a one where somebody might get alittle bit of a break. But I

(03:00):
suppose that you could view it theother way with four games left and just
be like, look, we're gonnago take care of business tonight, and
then we might be locked up andwe might know that we're good to go
and we're the five seed. Ithink they might get to where they're going
tonight right like they're playing the bigpicture game. It's just a matter of

(03:23):
your order of operations. And Iwouldn't have been surprised if that order of
operations was a day off for Lucaor Kyrie. But it sounded like from
skin today that they're both going toplay. So it's just like, okay,
how about we whoop them, andthen we look around and say,
all right, we got three left. Where are we? Can we chill
out or what do we got todo? Take care of business tonight?

(03:45):
And you might not will, butmight come away with that option. And
that's a nice option to have atthis time of the year. Yeah,
let me make sure you can getthings wrapped up a little early and know
where you're going before this season actuallyends and get a little rest for some
guys without the games. Yeah, being of terrible consequence, that's a nice

(04:05):
situation. But I think we're highlyconfident that the Mavericks are where they are,
and you can get ready. You'regonna be playing the Clippers in the
first round. But you gotta nailit down. You gotta nail it down.
You can't fart and fall down.If you fart and fall down,
then Phoenix or New Orleans, whoare two games back, could in theory
catch you. But I believe ifyou win one more, if there's still

(04:27):
two back, obviously they could catchyou because there's three games left, but
if you could get maybe some helpin their next games, you are on
the precipice to knowing for sure whatwe already are pretty sure of which is
you're gonna get Mavericks Clippers. Sostrap in and strap on. You don't
want Mavericks Clippers. You don't wantthe Clippers. No, I don't like
playing the Clippers. They're fun, they're tough. I have bad Clippers memories.

(04:51):
I don't know. Yeah, they'refun and they're tough, and they
also have no idea how to wina game like this, to play in
the playoffs, they don't never have. It would be a fun team to
beat because if you beat them, you get to say it was Paul George
Kawhi, Leonard Russell Westbrook, andJames Harden eat it. It's a very

(05:12):
attractive collection of big names. Yeah, that's intimidating. No, it's really
not. Yeah, I mean, any of those guys can go off and
have a really big game on you. I guess any one of them could
win a game for him by himselfif he had to. But this is
a team game, and the Mavericksunderstand that more fully than they ever have

(05:36):
right now. I think it isinteresting that I think Mike and I both
are incredibly confident about the Mavericks asthe road team beating the Clippers, despite
the fact that we played them intwenty and twenty one and the Clippers won
both times. But I feel goodabout it. I do too, I
feel good about it right now. This is different, These are different times.

(05:57):
I think there's a paradigm surrounding thisteam that might I don't know.
I have to think about this alittle further. But the only time this
paradigm sun surrounded this team before wastwenty eleven, and you know how that
worked out. That worked out prettywell, it did, It worked out.
Yeah, you have to feel goodabout I guess this team's chances against

(06:20):
anybody right now, the way thatthey're playing. But when you're talking about
maybe sitting back trying to get thiswin and sitting back or resting somebody tonight,
it brings back too many very recentmemories of the way things ended last
year. It was just a totaldisaster, and they decided to start tanking
at the very end when there wasno time left to tank. It was

(06:42):
weird. And I know that thisis a whole different team, but it's
also not like some of the samea lot of the same people, same
coach, same owner. Just winall the games, please right now?
Just win, I will say onthose teams, Okay, cocky Dwight Powell
got to play a lot. Itwas different, It was a little different.
This one is a This is aquite good team that's about as hot

(07:04):
as you can be in the NBA. Now that is that don't count on
D White power for much of anything. That's not quite as much Dwhite.
There's a couple other guys you don'tget quite as much of, which is
great. Uh No, this thingis definitely different. But to that point,
yeah, like they are going toget towards the end, like when
there's certainly before their final game ofthe season, will know where they are

(07:27):
for sure, maybe with two togo, on the very outside chance,
with three to go, we'll knowwhere they are. But it does start
getting weird when you go, Okay, I do I hear that Luca and
Kyrie are tired and this body parthurts and that body part hurts. But
man, you got sure are kickingass when you play all the games.
Do we want to do we wantto sit out a game or two and
then just assume that you'll still bein the in the right flow and in

(07:49):
the right rhythm because they're so hardright now, it's the old rest versus
rust. Yeah, well, Ijust hope they can find a way to
keep going with the way they are. Just keep this thing going. And
if that means somebody can sit outa game or two and then come back
and fit right in to where theway things are right now, that'd be

(08:11):
great. But if you need themto play, then play them. So
we got that going on here,we do. We got poops and lots
of it. We've also got awhole bunch of other things. I got
some ranger notes for later on todayif you'd like them, fine notes,

(08:33):
And of course all the other stuffthat you normally see in a speakeasy presentation
is on the way. So wehope you'll give us the full four.
If you don't give us the fullfour, give us as much of the
full four as you possibly can andwe'll go full force. You know what
I found out today? What's that? That'll probably be part of four o'clock

(08:54):
today. I stumbled upon how muchdoes it cost if you're an NBA player
to make love to whoever you wantand them not tell anybody? I know
how much that costs. I foundthat out today, Like, hire somebody
or anybody, but just pay themnot to tell anything. How much on
average, if you are an NBAplayer, you pay somebody, they're monthly

(09:16):
stipend to Hey, shut up,okay, so like you're having an affair.
Hush hush money. Yep, Igot the price. Yeah, I
found the price point. That's interesting. Something I stumbled upon right before the
show, which totally changed my mood. I can say that I witnessed this
moment and when you stumbled upon thisand you slammed your laptop. Oh,

(09:37):
I'm ready to go now. It'sabout one fifty seven pm. I looked
at Jules and I said, oh, yeah, we're good to go.
Now. I'm ready to do radio. Because sometimes you know you're going to
figure out how to do an incredibleradio show. Obviously, sometimes you just
see something you go, oh thatreally just fills it out out. I'm

(10:01):
good now good. I got afew of those things too. Three three
good go. Yeah, we're rockingall right? You're kidding me? Yes,
as I say, we are lockedin, loaded, aero dynamic and
ready to roll. How about that? What's amile day? What will I

(10:26):
have to say? Say it?In that? My grand away? What
today? Mike's mind is fueled byCelsius Essential energy drinks. I have three
things here. Wow, dude,go your minds full itam one. We

(10:54):
must touch on the eclipse once again, because I've been searching and thinking that
sooner or later I was going torun across somebody or see something, or
I was going to you know, run into a naysayer, running to somebody
who didn't like it, was disappointedin it. That for in one way

(11:18):
or another, it just did notdeliver the goods to satisfy this will be
gone. So and so far Ihave not This has been one of the
most unanimous. Oh there's one.Oh there was one who was that you
hadn't found any are you're going tobe one? Charles Barkley said, we're

(11:39):
a bunch of losers if we werelooking at the eclipse. Okay, but
I mean somebody I actually know.Oh, okay, you don't know Chuck
like that. I don't know himlike that. I'd love to know him
like that. I bet I knowChuck. Chuck don't know me, but
yeah, i'd love to know himtoo. I bet he's a great hate
he's wonderful. But I haven't runacross anybody or or read in a kind

(12:00):
of local missive from anybody who saidthat they were disappointed in it. And
that's rare, man. I mean, everything great, there's always somebody saying,
yeah, well it was okay, but uh, if that had done
this, if they'd done that, you know, whatever the case may be.
You always find the naysayer out there. I have not found the naysayer

(12:24):
on the eclipse. I was notprepared for how much I was going to
enjoy the eclipse. Actually I wasnot either. I was prepared to naysay
or at least secretly deep down think, come on, guys, whatever,
I thought you were a pretty goodcandidate for that. Yeah, and had
you not stepped up in that way, I would have thought you'd be prepared.
Yeah. Yeah, then that sucker, what boy, we just came

(12:48):
around to where saying words like pathof totality or like part of our lexicon.
Everybody just pretended that's. No oneknew what that was like last week.
Yeah, and now everybody's using itlike we know what we're talking about.
Yeah. But when that sucker wenttotality and I was just going full
Trump, staring at it, rawdog. You oh totality you were Yeah,

(13:09):
during totality, I was deep inthat thing God, and it was
amazingses craw dogs knows no Steve,it was screamed raw dog. This bad

(13:35):
ass. It was super badass,It really was. I tried to take
a picture with my phone. Thatdidn't work. Congrats to everybody who took
good pictures of the eclipse. Iclearly been missing a step somewhere. You
had to have like a little filter. The phone mine looked dumb. You
show somebody pictures I took, they'dbe like that event sucked. Well,
hold on, let me find somebodyelse's phone. Yeah. I committed to

(13:56):
the fact that I wasn't going totry to take a picture of the eclipse.
I was only going to try anddo a little like Instagram story of
the reaction around us. Yeah, because I didn't want it in the moment,
like panic and do I look atthe eclipse? Do I take a
picture of the eclipse? If Itake a picture of the clips, is
gonna be worth it. But Iwant to actually experience this and not at
my phone up facing the eclipse. But there were little like filters. Becca

(14:20):
actually had some with our event yesterdaythat you could have put on your phone
so you can tell the people thatthought ahead and got these filters because they
were really excited to post their eclipsepictures. Now, yeah, my problem
is I just don't believe people likeI heard. I heard our dear friend
Becca, who set up an amazingevent yesterday. I heard her telling you
or somebody like you know, ifyou're gonna take a picture with your phone,

(14:41):
and I heard the words filter, and I'm like, eh, people
in their words, Yeah, I'mtelling me that my phone's got this.
You're kidding me. It's a newphone, it's an incredible camera. Oh
my god, I crush it.That audio is amazing. My favorite part
of the whole thing yesterday was MikeReiner's reaction because you were giggling like a

(15:07):
giddy little child. It's just like, I can't get that way on you.
So I was all excited on myown and then I saw you and
then I just like lost it.I was giggling at you, and I
was laughing at the darkness and totality, and it was all just so much

(15:28):
to take in at one time.It was amazing. Well, we'll see
everybody and again in three hundred andtwenty nine years. Is that what it
is? Twenty Nay every Now.This is my expertise based on listening to
whoever from whatever astronomy place was holdinga microphone at Clyde Warren that I overheard
that at any given place, aboutevery three hundred and seventy five years,

(15:52):
you'll get you some totality. Soif you wanted to travel somewhere during whatever
the next eclipse is, I guessshe could go somewhere where it's going to
have that. But if you're talkingabout here, then in theory, I
guess it would be like three hundredand seventy five years. So I'll see
you guys at the next one.I'm going to be at Clyde Warren Park.
That's a tease for the year twentythree ninety nine, Clyde Warren.

(16:17):
I'm gonna be at Clyde Warren forthe eclipse. The whole thing's really crazy
for a kid to wrap their headaround. It's like they finally grasped,
I think the concept of the eclipseyesterday. But talking to my daughter about
it last night, she was likeasking me all these questions about when it's
coming back, and she's like, yeah, when it comes back, we're
all going to be dead. Mylittle five year old. Yeah, did

(16:41):
you tell her not only us,your kids and their kids and their kids
and their kids. No, Ididn't. I didn't. I didn't tell
her all that. Our family lineis prettymore your five year old to say
that, yeah, we're all goingto be dead. I just look at
her and say, yeah, you'llbe dead. I won't make sure you
get a good job that pays alot, stay at the cutting edge of

(17:03):
medicine, and you got a chanceat this. She seems so sad about
it. I did say it waslike, well, I guess in one
hundred years, like, we don'tknow what if there's some sort of technology
where they freeze us and then maybeyou don't die. Look, it's not
a given that Anna's gone in onehundred years. Yeah, that's true.
People get there, that's right,People get to one o five. Yeah,

(17:25):
I'd bet on it. She seemslike she has a lot of energy,
and that's that's something takes care ofherself. That works out well,
it works out, and she's agreat Also, did you see what Luca
did before the Mavericks game with Houstonthe other day? Made another baby?
Oh what did he do? Wholikes to goof around? Yeah? And

(17:49):
warm ups, Oh is it thescoreboard? One? Yeah, and try
crazy ass shots like that moonshot. He's silly. Yeah. So what he
did the other day, and fromthe video that d magazine posted about this,
it's on front burner today. Itseems a pretty sure thing that he

(18:15):
told everybody that he was going todo this, because they were all standing
around kind of, you know, going through their warm ups, but you
could tell they were kind of lookingat him and saying, well, come
on, a you going to doit or not? Show us, daddy.
And what he did was he stoodin front of the basket with his
back to it and bounced a ballhigh off the bottom edge of the scoreboard.

(18:45):
Actually he threw the ball. Hethrew the ball high off the edge
of the scoreboard and he had tohit it just so for it to do
this, I'll bet you, butit did. It came down, bounced,
bounced up, hit the backboard, and went through the hoop. He's
crazy. He is crazy. Youcan't tell me these guys don't have enough

(19:06):
time to get better at stuff, because he's got enough time to get better
at stuff and then play around throwingthe ball off of weird things. That's
a commercial. Do you remember wasit? I think it was Michael Jordan
and Larry Bird McDonald's commercials back inthe day. Yeah, that's what Luca
does before the game, where they'llbe like off your ainus two times down

(19:30):
the highway and then in the basket. And Luca does it in real life
just for fun. That's dumb. You've seen him before the Warriors game.
What do you do then? Sobefore the Warriors game, he was talking
to Steph and he's like, comeon, and Steph took a half court
shot and it went in and Lucawas like uhh, and he's like what

(19:52):
and he's like, you're over halfcourt. You're over the line, and
like they both went and somebody wasrecording. They checked the phone and stuff's
like damn, I was over theline. And then lucas each from half
court and makes it, and likeSteph's walking away and they're giggling, and
then Luca calls for the ball againand does it again and hits it again
and then walks away. Geez, talk about scoreboarding a guy. Bass.
God, he's good at basketball stuff, man, he is good at basketball

(20:18):
stuff. He is really really goodat basketball stuff. And then there's a
different guy on the team that whenthe second half starts is like, hey,
chill out, bro, I gotit. That's when Kyrie have scorn
all the points he takes over. Then it's fun. These are golden sports
times and our fairbird kids. Ihave never seen anything like it. Between

(20:38):
the two teams that are still activeare they're on the tail end of their
season, let's say, headed fortheir playoff run, and the one that's
just starting what hopefully will be one. Although they sprung a couple of weeks
in this Astro series, it oneterrible. They split and then that's you

(21:00):
know, if you get out outof a series with the Astros with a
split, that's not an awful thingby any means. But we were hoping
for better and thinking they had better. I thought they had better in him,
But I thought they had better. After the top of the first yeah,
I did too. They're up fiveto nothing. I did two.
I thought they were really on theirway and this was going to be their

(21:22):
night. But then that man, your Donna Alvarez stepped in again. He's
a bully. Oh god, he'sa badass. I mean I don't watch
every game he plays. I watchwhen he plays the Rangers and Hobby that's
Barry Bonds on steroids reincarnated. Everytime he's up there, I'm just like,
just don't pitch to him, justwalk him. He's going to break

(21:44):
something. He had to hit theball thirteen thousand feet last night. Maybe
it was really more like four sixty, but it sure felt like thirteen.
He got a lot of it,that's for sure. And then the bullpen
sprang a couple of leaks and itI don't know they're doing okay in the
early part of the game, butit got away real fast. And when
it got started getting away, itreally got away. When does he Havevaldi

(22:07):
pitch again? That'll make me feelbetter. I think he comes up next.
I think I need it to behim. I need to get back
on track. Yeah, we needhim. I don't want to talk about
where I am with my Rangers today. You don't know. You're not in
a good place. So I wantyou to know. Okay, Nay tonight,

(22:29):
all right there, You ask meabout the Rangers tomorrow, okay,
because then they'll be seven and fourand we'll be coming off this nice game
from Evaldi, Wyatt Langford will havehit his first home run. I'll be
in a better place. I shouldn'tbe in a bad place at six and
four. Do you know what sixand four adds up to if you extrapol
eight, nine. Yeah, it'spretty good, pretty good season. Six

(22:52):
and four is a good start.Yep, it is all right. So
that's where I'm at today. Butwhere I'm at is hardly the only thing
that matters, because we have gota sports desk to get to. That's
right. It is another three packof action tonight for our Dallas teams,

(23:14):
plus a possible clinching this evening, and anything goes on clinch Night.
