Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fining me on the line right now is Shelley from

(00:02):
IGA's Coley.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning to you, Shelley.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Oh hi Katie, how are you very well now?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Shelley? What's that go with the eggs?

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Oh my god? I know we're all wondering what's happening
with the eggs, But there is a massive shortage of
eggs Australia wide. And I am told it's to do
with the transition of bringing non caged eggs well not
to be allowed anymore, just to happen ten years earlier

(00:34):
than originally said to happen, So it was meant to
happen in twenty forty six, and apparently they're trying to
bring it back down to twenty thirty six. And because
of this, people are having to reshuffle their egg businesses
around and there's not enough eggs.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Holy Dooley, Well lucky I managed to get my hands
on some last weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
How like, how big an issue is this, Shelley.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
We are not getting any eggs at all from IgA.
We are having to source eggs more locally to get
them from a firm supplies around here. So people are
just scrambling to get their hands on eggs and I
believe that New Zealand have already put this into playing

(01:21):
and partners of eggs are gone up to fifteen dollars
having to do with COVID.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Apparently fifteen bucks. Goodness me.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, So when there's a shortage of eggs, that means
that we don't have a shortage of chicken meat. But
next when we have eggs, there's going to be a
shortage of chicken meat because we need the chickens to
produce the eggs.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh my goodness, it sounds like a mass challenge.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
You're like a riddle that you're telling me about the
Shelley trying to get trying to process that in my
brain right now.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Well I did when I heard Well, I just caught
the end of it. No one knows what's happening with
the eggs because we get customers that I rate because
they want eggs, they are ordering them, they're just not
being supplied.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Wow, there you go.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
So and so is this expected to be an ongoing issue?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Well, our supplier is saying at least until Christmas.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
And it's not even like the toilet paper where people
were going out and buying heaps of then storing it.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
You can't do that with eggs.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Well, I would saying too just because of COVID, Like
what is the reasoning? But the thing is there aren't
enough chickens to produce the eggs because there's currently enough
chicken meat but wet. So they're using they're using the
eggs to produce the chickens, right, so they can't sell
the eggs because they need the eggs for them to hatch. Yeah,

(02:53):
so it's a bit of a circle that we're going
to keep seeing. And I am told that he's also
to do with this phasing out of non caged egg
there go.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, yeah, wow, it's gonna be Yeah, it's it's going
to be interesting. I suppose to see, you know, to
see how it all sort of unfolds, and yeah, difficult.
I wonder whether we'll sort of see some more of
our local producers and that I guess you're still if
you don't have the chickens out there to lay the eggs,
well you can't even deal with the demand anyway.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Well that's right, But I've literally just been looking up
to try and find some really local egg supplies to
get them on our shelves. As you know, we always
love supporting local where we can anyway. But yeah, just
doing some research to find out who I can get
local eggs from.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Well, Shelley, let us know how things go and we'll
keep an eye on it. But I know that you'd
also wanted to get in contact with me. You'd heard,
you'd heard about the situation of course with Sonya the
jockey and the terrible, terrible incident that she'd been subjected to.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Oh my god, that is just horrific. And I've been
talking to so many customers about it. Everyone's reading the paper.
We're just all mortified. And look, I just wanted to
do something really tiny for her and just give her
an IDA voucher so she can come in and get
some groceries. So no money tight for her at the
moment with not being paid and having her wedding, so
we'll give her a two hundred dollars voucher so she

(04:27):
can get some groceries sorted out. So that's one thing,
one small thing she doesn't have to worry about that
this week.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Good on you, Shelley. Thank you. You guys are always really.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Generous in those situations, So thank you so very much,
and we'll make sure that we pass that on to
her and thank you for coming on and telling us
what's going on with the eggs.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, well we'll make sure Sonia get some eggs too, Okay,
So but yeah, if you can get anything in contact
with her, that would be amazing because it really you know,
we're all about supporting local and looking after others when
tragedy and terrible things hit us.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yeah, no, you really do, and you do that very often.
Shelley lay from Zicoli I g A. We always appreciate
your time. Thanks so much for coming on this morning.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Of course, Thanks Katie, thank you
