Speaker 1 (00:00):
Lauren Moss, the incumbent member for the Labor Party, joins
me on the line right now. Good morning to you, Lauren.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning Katie, and good morning to your listeners.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Now, Lauren, are you ready to get started. I've got
a series of questions for you. Let's do it now.
Why did you decide to put your hand up to
run again? Oh?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Look, at the end of the day, I love this community.
I have got strong connections in this community. I have
delivered for Casurina the first election commitment we made around
the multi story car park at Ardih to seeing the
steam center open at Dripstone Middle School. And I've got
the energy and commitment to keep delivering for a community

(00:44):
that I want to keep serving.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
You sort of answered the question, but what are your
biggest achievements do you think since becoming the local member?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
There are lots of things that I'm really proud of
in Casarina. But you know, one of the first things
that we did and we came to government was building
that multi story car park at Ridih and Katie, I
remember that very well because Pete Davies and yourself advocated.
It's very hard for that back in the day and
really you know, there's been lots of projects since then.

(01:14):
Steam Center at Dripstone is useful and will be an
amazing afset for kids across the northern suburbs. We've got
extra land going into the Casarina Coastal Reserve, which I
think you know adds for the protection there. It's right
in our doorstep and our community absolutely loves it. We've
got a community safety hub there at Casarina, which you

(01:34):
know I'm working as a police minister to make sure
we maintain that as well shared byite Path to Lee Point.
But the end of the day, I think any fitting
member will also tell you there's arrange things we do
each and every day, from helping with housing and working
with council, and those things sometimes can be the most rewarding.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
What do you see as being the biggest t shoes
in the electrodes?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Oh, certainly the things that people are raising with on
a day to day basis, things like crime and antisocial behavior,
cost and cost of living, but also health and education
and environment. When we have a lot of hospital workers
and a lot of people who work in education through Caasarina,
so they certainly want to know what's happening in those

(02:17):
areas as well.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Now in terms of those issues, why do you believe
that you are best place to sort through them, particularly
the issue of crime, when I know it keeps getting
raised with us time and time again that labor has
been in power for the last eight years, and some
people not satisfied with the response.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Well, I think you know, and you will have heard
this answer probably from from a number of people, that
we do have significant investment going into community safety through
the budget. But some of the things more locally here
in Casarina are, of course the trial of the Territory
Community Safety Hub there in Casurina, which is a partnership
between police, neighborhood Watch and of Crime. And I've had

(03:01):
really good feedback about that. Eva and I when she
was the Transport Minister, went along to talk to people
down there at the bus depot. We've seen eight million
dollars a year going to extra security and transit offices
on the bus network. And again I'm getting good feedback
about those sorts of investments. So from my perspectives, I'm

(03:21):
always going to be you know, you know me, Katie,
I'm not about negative campaigning. I'm not you know, I'm
somebody who wants to be accessible to my community and
wants to work with the community to find positive solutions
and actually get them done and delivered.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
You touched on this a tiny bit in the answer
just then. But we know that the likes of Casuarina Square,
the shopping centers around Casuarina have had some really serious
issues when it comes to crime and anti social behavior
youths in the running a mark, I mean, Casuarina Square
management at different times have had to take some quite
serious measures to get on top of something that, you know,

(03:56):
that really is out of their control. What have you
done as a local member to try and combat these.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, so I meet with our center managers quite regularly
through the electorate. I always have, whether it's the Casuarina
Village or Casurina Square or elsewhere, you know. I think again,
one of the examples is that we have established a
community safety hub there in Casurina, and that's something that
Polly and Warren and the team at Casurina Square certainly

(04:24):
advocated quite hard for. But I think as well, you know,
there are a lot of other solutions and things that
are part of the puzzle here that you know, these
center managers are also advocating for more activities for young people,
again something that I have been a very strong advocate
for since before I came to Parliament and have delivered on.
We are investing in and progressing a use and community hub.

(04:48):
So it's also about, you know, how do we make
sure that we are building a more connected community around
these shopping centers, around our houses around Casurina, to make
sure that kids are engaged in positive activities, they're feeling
like they're part of our community, they know that they're
valued part of our community. And also those more practical

(05:10):
immediate solutions like making sure we've got police on the
beat through some of these centers, and you know, those
are all things that I've worked on with our local
center managers.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Lauren, just over two minutes to go. Do you support
the development of Lee Points? Oh?

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Look, I think the permits for leepoint obviously were approved
such a long time ago, Katie, and the thing that
I focused on at that time was promoting the opportunity
for people to have their say and I've seen some
really positive changes as a result of that, and government's
been really clear on our position on LEEPOINT and the
support for that project given it's got its approval.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
And do you support the development of gas onshore gas.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Again, I think we've had a really strong position on
our support for the gas industry. It's a really important
part of the transition, it's part of long term work
opportunities for Territorians. And I've seen firsthand how that environmental
environmental regulatory system has improved and grown around that industry
from my time of seeing the environment minister. And a

(06:14):
huge shout out to everybody who's worked on that actually,
because it's a mammoth amount of work.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Lauren, one minute to go. Why should people vote.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
For you again? I have a track record of delivering
for Casuarina. I have delivered time and time again projects
for this community. I want to make sure that we
continue to support our local schools. I want to make
sure that we continue to maintain a positive approach to
finding solutions in our community. And you know, this is

(06:43):
what I want to do, keep serving this beautiful community.
And I hope I have the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
To thirty seconds left. Anything else you want to add?

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Goodness? Wow, I just you know, you never know with
that what going down. Oh look, I think at the
end of the day, you know, I I think that
it's about having a positive approach to finding solutions, and
I think I have demonstrated that time and time again.
I'm not about negative politics, I'm not about slogans. I'm

(07:10):
about finding solutions and working with the community to deliver it.
And you know it's going to be an interesting thirty
one day.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
It certainly is, Lauren just in time, Lauren Moss, thank
you very much for your time this morning. Much appreciated.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Thank you
