Speaker 1 (00:00):
And joining us live on the line right now is
Justine Glover, who is indeed the Independent. Good morning to you, Justine.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good morning Katie. Thanks for having me on your shown.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Thanks so much for joining us. Now, Justine, we've got
seven minutes and a series of questions.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Are you ready, I'm definitely ready.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Let's do it now. Why did you decide to put
your hand up to run?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
So I decided to put my hand up to run
after being contacted by many people in the community who
said everything is not okay and they're just sick of
people not listening. And I myself had been sort of
like looking at the new looking around and just in despair,
thinking the two party system is not working. Labor and Liberal.
You know, they don't represent the people. They're focuses on

(00:46):
the party. And so as an independent, I truly believe
that I can represent the community and I can make
positive change, and that's what this community needs. And as
a registered nurse and someone who's worked in health, who's
worked in council, and who's lived and worked in Karama,
I'm just passionate about standing and I'm excited about the
change that can happen in this community.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
And why do you think you're the best person for
the role based on your previous experience in the community
and also through your work.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
So, as I said, I'm a regious nurse. I came
up for the one year contract thirty years ago with
Health and I've been with Health Force for all that time.
During that time, have I've had incredible experience being able
to develop leadership skills. I've got a Masters of International Management.
I've held seen your position. I've got an incredible network
of other professionals experts in health and also leadership. I've

(01:42):
also had that experience on council and i know how
government works. But I'm also passionate about people. I think
that's my winning skill. I love working with people. I
love connecting people and getting that real energy together to
create positive change. And that's my focus on on working
collaboratively with both sides of the you know, the parties,

(02:04):
whoever is in and who's in opposition, because that's what
we need. Collaboration, we need community, we need unity to
really turn things around, because what's happening at the moment
is just it is scary where our community is going.
And that's that's why I'm standing and that's why I
think I'm the best person for this position and I'm

(02:25):
excited about winning.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
What do you say as being the biggest issues in
the electrode?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
So crime, Katie, you just hear it. I've draw knocked
thousands of doors, had hundreds and hundreds of conversations, and
it is really concerning the level of crime in Corama Malac,
and what people are saying is that nobody's listening. And
you know, people are you know in some areas, they're
under sieve, they are locking themselves up, they're putting up

(02:54):
temporary fencing, they're they're hiding behind barbed wire, they're turning
the light off when they're inside because dead of home invasions.
I mean that talking to people who have had that
experience of home invasion, I mean that scars them for life.
And we've got serious issues with mental health, drug abuse,
alcohol abuse, because there's this wicked cycle of crime, anxiety,

(03:16):
trauma that is going on and it's affecting our kids
and we need to stop it, Katie. We've got to
stop it. And that's why we need an independence.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Based on those issues that you are hearing on the
doors and what you've just articulated there, look how and
why do you think you're the best person to be
able to sort through.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Them, because I don't think we can just leave it
to government and what the community is saying to me.
They have ideas and we need to reach into that
community with them. Part of their role of an independent
is to work with community. It's to set up those
citizen forums on really big issues. And that's not not
having one meeting. That's having a really serious meeting with

(03:58):
many people. Form them, We support them. We give them
time to analyze all the data the issues and come
up with different solutions. And I think there's lots of
energy and compassion in this community. They want change. They're
unhappy with the rates of racism, poverty, violence, and they

(04:20):
want community. They want Kurama and Malac and Nucky to
come back to that beautiful, safe community it once was
because it was, and they want to walk hand in hand.
They don't want to see people locked up in jail
and you know that cycle of crime. They want the
kids to feel welcome and supported and go to school
and have a purpose and future.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Katie, one of the other issues that is rised with
us full Korama is public housing. I mean, how are
you feeling about that. Do you think that this is
an issue that people are concerned with?

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Oh, massive, you just have to walk around here. We
have the highest rates of public housing and housing and
Tea has totally neglected this whole service. I'm just shocked
with what I'm seeing. And I'm talking to the residents
in those community, in those houses who have got piles
of rubbish, broken furniture and just sitting outside because there's

(05:11):
nothing inside to sit on. And they're saying, then, they've
been asking for help, you know, for months and months,
and no one's helping them clean up their tendency or
support them to live in a different way to how
they're normally living. And so you know, it's a broken system, Katie,
and it can't continue, and it's got so worse, and
you know, it's affecting the whole harmony of the community

(05:34):
because it's a terrible blight on our community and we
need to invest in that stock which has been totally
left to disintegrate and people can't live there, and that
is actually one of my priorities. Around Malac. There's a
big community near Tabletop near the holts landa park that

(05:54):
has just been voiceless and they are terrified and they're
rundown and they need services to support them. That the
housing is just appalling, Justine.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
A bit over a minute to go, about a minute
twenty to go. A couple of quick ones. Do you
live in the electorate.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
I have lived in the electorate and I'm moving back
to the electorate. So we're just building in mistletoe at
the moment. I've spent thirteen years here, but I've worked,
I've gardened, I've you know, every Saturday in that Karama garden.
My heart is in this community and in Malac and
in Knukie, and we are we're building a mistletoe. So yeah,
I'm actually one of the few. I'm not leaving. I'm

(06:30):
coming back. I love Karama. Hey.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
In terms of your preferences, have you decided where they're
going to go?

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yes, Well I don't need a party to tell me
how to preference, and it's out there. I'm not going
to tell any voter how to preference, so I'm not
giving preferences, all right. It's up to the voter to decide,
you know, who they wish to choose. And I want
to work with both sides of government.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Justine thirty seconds to go. Why should people vote for you?

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Because it's time to change, Katie. And an independent is
going to be in this community, working for this community,
listening and acting and I am the one. Vote for me.
Four years you will see change.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Well, justin Glover, you've got about five seconds to go.
Anything else you want to say.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Karana has a big heart, it's amazing people Malac has
you know. It's just people want change, Katie, and now
the time. Do it now because otherwise we've got to
wait four years.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Well, justin Glover, it is great to speak with you
this morning. Thank you so very much for your time.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Thank you, Katie. I loved it. Thanks, I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
That is justin Glover.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
There, she is indeed the independent who's put a hand
up to run for Karama
