Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us live on the line right now is the
colp's candidate Clinton. How good morning to you, Clinton, Good.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Morning, Katie, and good morning to everyone in driver grayd Gun.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Now we've got seven minutes. Are you ready to get started?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm ready, Katie? All right?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Now, why did you decide to put your hand up
to run?

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah? It was actually there was an event that really
triggered my decision, and that was an event that happened
last year at the Palmston Markets. I was up there
with my wife and two young daughters who were just
four and two at the time, and a large youth
gang fight broke out at the market and unfortunately my

(00:41):
family were caught in the crossfire of that, and my
wife had to hide under a table with a vendor
with our baby, and I just curled up around the
four year old. And following the event, there were no arrests,
there were no charges, and I could even see the
frustration with police when I spoke to them afterwards, and

(01:05):
they just said, really like, there's nothing that can be done.
And I guess, as a father, you know, the father,
that was a really confronting thing to happen. And that night,
like I hardly slept, and yeah, I kind of knew
I kind of had a moral obligation. After that point,
I knew I saw the problem, and I knew we'd

(01:27):
had a near miss as a family. And I think
at some point I was going to open the newspaper,
be it in two weeks or two years, and unfortunately
it was going to be another family who didn't get
a near miss, And so that's why I decided to
do it.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Now, tell me, I guess a little bit about your
work experience, work that you've done within the community, and
you know, based on that experience, why you think you're
the best person for the role.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah. So, like my first career was as a residential
youth worker and I worked with just extreme, so boys
that were classified as extreme on their behaviors, and that
was yeah, basically that was a residential youth facility and
so we lived and worked together, and so I, you know,

(02:19):
I have a lot of experience dealing with troubled youth,
and so it's always kind of been a passionate mine.
And I see the way that we're going at the moment,
I think not only is it worse for the community,
I do think we're failing another generation of young people
and so I'd really like to bring that experience into Parliament. Also,

(02:44):
so following my youth working career, I was an army
officer and you know, we had a saying in the
army it's like, you know, be good at the basics,
and I see that as a really important thing. I
feel anti government just needs to get back to doing
the basics and I think we're strayed from that and

(03:04):
we're all feeling the kind of effects I've tried to make.
And currently Katie, I works in the construction industry at
placed by army career, and I've tried to meet my
campaign really about you know, I've tried to show people
what they will get from me. So instead of talking
about things I'm going to do, I think it's really

(03:27):
important that a local member actually speaks to people themselves
on the ground. And that's why, you know, this week
I should hit six thousand doors that I've not, and
so I've tried to really meet as many people as
I can, hear their views, and then I've got the
confidence to walk into Parliament and vote in according accordance

(03:49):
with what the people want.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
So based on that door knocking, that you've done. What
do you see is the biggest issues in the electrode.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Like by far Katie at his crime, I've got now
six notebooks on in my office with everyone's responses, and
crime is just the first thing off everyone's tongue, and
nothing else kind of matters. When you're not feeling safe.

(04:18):
It's like a real hierarchy of needs. And so you know,
we've got to do the basics of government. We've got
to make we've got to make a safe place for
people to actually live in, and then we can get
people working, the economy growing, and then this is how
we can then invest in a good health system, a
good education system and get those kind of outcomes. So

(04:40):
we've just got to get back to the basics of
doing what government should do after crime, and in crime,
I include the anti social behavior. Domestic violence is terrible
in my electorate and antisocial behavior. And so following that though, housing,
housing is a big issue, both for tenants of housing

(05:00):
and neighbors as well with the antisocial behavior and the
cost of living it's getting. You know, it's hard out here,
Alis and I and my wife like we feel it immensely.
And I know when I go door to door. Everyone
else is feeling it. I know.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Yeah, it's just Clinton, based on I mean, based on
those issues that are being raised with you, why do
you think you're the best person to get stuck into them.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
So I think what I offer is, you know, I
will these matters. I'm personally invested in them. Crime. You know,
we have felt the effects and so I'm not someone
who I'm not someone who will beat around the bush
on this matter. You know, I know the community wants it,

(05:52):
and I think the Parliament needs to start respecting what
the people want. And so to me, this is the
real you know, there's really no higher duty than what
I'm putting my hand up for. And in that parliament
we have to we have to act the way the
community expect us to. And I think that's why we're

(06:13):
seeing this. We're seeing so many issues and so much
discontent out here because elected members haven't been doing that
in government. And so I will. I will be true
to what the people have told me on the doors,
and I'll have the courage to follow that through.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Clinton. Finally, you've got about forty seconds to go. Why
should people vote for you?

Speaker 2 (06:39):
As I said, I think, you know I've tried to
show that I'm a man who will act. I've done
it with the door knocking you know already. You know
we've raised money for veterans around ANSAC Day and brought
awareness to those issues which are important to me. But
I've tried to show that I'll be a man of action,

(07:00):
and what you see is what you'll get. I asked
every territory, not just people in Drysdale, but every territorian
to really put the territory first in this election, and
across every objective measure, we are going backwards, and so
this isn't about red versus Okah, or blue or yellow.

(07:24):
It is about what is the best choice for the
territory and that is why I'll ask them to vote
for me.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Well, Clinton, how that is your time? Thanks so much
for having a chat to us this morning.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Mate, No, thanks, Katie, it's change. I'm a big listener.
I've listened to you for years at work, so it's
funny to be on it and so good on you.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
We appreciate your time this morning. Thanks so much for
having a chat with me today.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Thank you. Thanks Katie.
