Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm very pleased to say.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Joining us on the line right now is Cindy Bevengary Roberts,
who's running as an independent.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Good morning to you, Cindy.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Yes, good morning everyone.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Ow are you yeah? Wonderful?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey, We've got seven minutes and a number of questions
to get through.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Are you ready?

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yeah, as long as you don't shoot the messenger, no.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
You'll be right, all right, Cindy, Well start the clock.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Now.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Why did you decide to put your hand up to
run in the seat of Drysdale.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Because I think, look, at the end of the day,
I stand for the people, and I feel like the
major parties have let us down on many levels as
a people of this of this continent, end of the territory.
And that's one of the reason why I put my
hand up. Because in order for there to be changed,

(00:51):
you've got to be the change, and we need change.
So I put myself out in the ring. So if
I'm there for the people, So if the people fully
want change and they do want a voice that actually
cares about our community and cares about the people, will
I'm here. So I'm given them an opportunity, you know,
for that change.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Cindy tell me based on your previous jobs or previous
work in the community, Why do you think you're the
best person for the job.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Well, at the end of the day, I don't know
if I'm the best person for the job. I think
there's many of us throughout the community that could, you know,
that have done a lot of work throughout our communities
in the past and and and and in present today
that that should be put in the end up. But
you know, at the end of the day, I'm very

(01:43):
How can I put it, I'll put it in the
right words. I'm an activist. I'm an activist. I'm a protester,
and and people will hear my voice and they will
know when I'm present because I'm about community. I'm about
the people. I'm about a lot of things. I care
about kind I care about our water, I care about,
you know, our families. I care about our children, you know.

(02:06):
And I care about our local businesses. I care about
you know. I'm just I just got a lot of
you know, things that I carry too as an individual.
You know, I can't speak for everybody out there, but
look as a community, and you see that the neglect
within our community and what major parties you know should
have been looking after and their constituents locally. You know,

(02:28):
at a grassroots level and a community level, we've been neglected.
And this is another reason why I feel I'm a
best candidate because I'm a grassroots woman and I know
the issues and the concerns and everything that we've got
throughout our community. A lot of these people that put
their end up, you know, many of them are being
fed with a silver spoon. So many of them don't
really know the deeper the deeper roots and the deeper

(02:51):
issues and the deeper concerns. And this is where we
need to fix it, and we need to get it right,
and we need to be going to the source of
things and not band aid solutions.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Christ All right, well Katie.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
You're speaking to Katie now, Yeah, you're right, No, no worries.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Hey, what do you see as being.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
The biggest issues in the electorate at Cindy.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
One is well, as you know, I'm a I'm a
Palmerston woman, and and the biggest neglect is I feel
that Palmerston itself is a city and and and the
surrounding suburbs are being neglected. So I'm about community, I'm
about the people I'm about families, but one is our
community has been neglected. And secondly, I'm concerned about I

(03:38):
want accountability. I want to know where all the money
is gone, and you know, of sustaining our communities. So
the question is is where's all the money? And and
secondly I feel there's there's a lot of things and
I look, I'm just going to raise it. I don't
I want I want fracking band from the Northern Territory
because water is a source of life and it affects

(04:01):
us all still as a community. And that's what you know,
They're only just a few of the things that I
stand for. But I'm really really you know, I put
my hand up. I've jumped into the ring, you know,
and I really hope that we can achieve something as
a community. And yeah, that's just where I'm at, Katie

(04:21):
at this point in time.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Now.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Look, do you know, Cindy, I always admire when people
put their hand up and you know, have a crack.
Why do you think that you are the best person
for the role. You know, when you look at some
of those issues that you've just raised and that we've
just sort of discussed.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Look, yes, because they've had an opportunity to make a difference,
and they have gone against the people. The major parties
have failed us on many levels. And as an independent
you know, and you don't go to be a rocket
scientist or you've got to have a PhD to see
that they have let down our communities, you know, national

(05:00):
you know, territory, territory, territory and why you know, being
a territory. But they have failed us in every area
possibly when it comes to the territory, the people and
what you know, and and and just just the territory alone.
They have failed us and they have they have not

(05:22):
been listening to the people and about what the people want.
But it's being about profit before the people. And this
is where it needs to cease in the territory. You know,
we need more of us putting our ends up that
are actually about the people and not about profit. Because
if we were territory, you look at the Northern Territory,
we should be wealthy. But where's all the money going.
Why is our community suffering? Why is palm used and

(05:45):
looking like you know, it's dead. We've got vacant buildings.
You know, there's no prosperity here. You question everything you
look at the communities. There's nothing for our kids. There's
nothing going on in our communities. You see the neglect.
So where's all the money territory. We sorry, No, you're right,
I'm very very passionate.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
No, you're right. Hey, we've got just over a minute
to go.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
So I want to give you the opportunities to ask
why should people vote for you?

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Because I'm about the people, and I'm here for the people,
you know, and I'm a grassroots woman, as you all know,
I'm a First Nations woman. But I'm about the people.
I'm about everybody, and I would love to have a
community consultation if I ever was to be elected. The
first thing I'll be asking for is a community consultation
day for the community, our whole community on what is

(06:35):
the needs of our community throughout Parmerston and surrounding suburbs.
You know, it's about the people, and it's about what
the people need, not about what I want, not about
my need. This is about everybody, you know, what the
people want because we're we've had enough of people that
are you know, the major party is not listening anymore.
And first and another thing, Katie, before we go offair,

(06:58):
what I wanted to also talk about was the crime rate.
You know, let's get to the source of it. We
have got a probably duh And city and surrounding some
suburbs also, but Palmerston, the crime rate, the crime problem
we've got out here, Let's fix it, you know, because
many don't care about it, but I do because I
know what the problem is and where it's coming from.

(07:19):
You know, just one of the problems of what's going
on in Palmerston. But we need to have an overall
community discussion about how we can fix this as a
community a whole, not as individual or thinking someone as
the best answer for it. It's like, no, this is
a community problem. You need to do it as a
community a whole.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well, Cindy, we have just run out of time. I
really appreciate you having a chat with me this morning.
Thanks so much for making sure that we got hold
of you. I really appreciate it. Thanks Cindy.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I wasn't prepared for any your all goodness everybody and
to everyone out there, love you, no worry.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Thanks Cindy, Thank you
