Speaker 1 (00:00):
We know that Territorians are going to be heading to
the polls on May threi for the federal election. We'll
be voting for the country's next leaders, and we will
be voting in the electorates of Solomon and Lingiari. And
this morning we're going to be giving our candidates eight minutes,
as we did yesterday, to answer a series of questions. Now,
(00:22):
some of these may change somewhat depending on who they're
standing for or if they're standing as an independent or
a Green. We'll try and ask about those preferences. But
first off this morning, joining us live on the line
is the colp's candidate Lisa Siebert. Good morning to you, Lisa.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Good morning Katie to you and your listeners.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Lovely to have you on the show. Now, Lisa, we've
got eight minutes. Are you ready to get started? Absolutely,
let's do it all right, Lisa. First off, why do
you think you're the best person to represent the seat
of Lingiari.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Thank you Katie and good morning listeners for Seedbert. I'm
running Ford the LP in Lingiari. I was born in
Gone and lived in the Northern Territory my whole life.
I'm running for Lengiari because I love the territory and
this is our home. I have seen firsthanded decline in
our community for far too long, and I'm sick of
seeing more change and sick of our community is being
taken for granted. Labor has had now twenty four years
(01:20):
of Lingiari and things have only gotten worse. The issues
are the crime, cossive living and infrastructure. This is what
people are talking to me about on the ground in
the last six months of travel within our community. In
since August, the CLP government has had a massive impact
on making our territory fafer. But we need a strong
federal Polish in Canberra alongside to Enterprise and Peter Dutton
(01:43):
to fight for more change for the territory old and
offer a community outside of alice beans. And the price
of fuel was three dollars a liter. How can anyone
expect to afford to pay three dollars a leter to
a fuel Once you field up your car up costing
you three dollars a liter, you then drive on an unfilled, unmade,
unsafe road. Hatty that's got twenty four years of later
in Leandiari has delivered and we need changed and we
(02:06):
cannot afford another three years of labor. Crime has gone up,
the cost of living has gone up, and our roads
are a mess. People want to feel safe in their homes.
They want to be able to afford to feed their
families and then drive on a road that's safe. None
of these things, and all of these things have gotten worse.
Lingdiari has been completely let down and neglected by labor.
(02:27):
And this is why we need a strong, polishing government
in Canble with just Enterprise and Peter Dubnin to work
with Leaf Napiera and her government to fight for the territory,
to keep making positive change and to ensure the territory
receives our fair share from the Commonwealth government. I'm asking
you to vote for me and vote for change to
improve our livelihoods for all territoriums and for the benefit
(02:49):
of our future generations to come.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Lisa, when it comes to the seat of Lingiari, and
I mean right across the Northern Territory, you've touched on
this crime continues to be an issue for the Northern Territory.
If you are elected as a federal member, how do
you feel that the federal government could support the Northern
territory government in this space, what will you be pushing for?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah? Sure, Copeter Dutton has twitted future coalition government to
supporting the in principle the Anti government's west of the
seven key requests to address the crime in elis in
the whole of the territory, whereas the Anti Government advisor
the Albanese government had so far only responded to one
of those seven requests and that was enabling gray use
(03:35):
of doing by police. But we need to get the
canber listening to the Anti government is living what the
territory needs and we know that's better aad to reduce
costs living and a further reduction in crime. And we
need to partner together because this is a territory government
and federal government problem and we need to start working
together and we need to get behind leus Makia and
(03:56):
her team to support them in Canberra. We need to
work together and make sure the churchary gets back on track.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Now when it comes to the cost of living, I
mean that is one of the biggest things being raised
on this show in terms of the federal election. What
do you think needs to happen to lower the cost
of living for everybody living in the electorate of Lingire.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
So a coalition government will deliver the real cost of
living relief when it matters, and when it matters. Now,
we'll reduce the fuel excise by twenty five cents per
liter for twelve months through the immediate financial relief of
fourteen dollars per tank savings and this will say family
is around fifteen hundred dollars. But you know we're also
going to be delivering chief and more consistent power by
(04:40):
backing your balance and engine mix. And we know that
we have gas in the mix, and we'll have a
chief electricity when it's needed, including your renewables and introducing
zero missions to your clear energy. And this will lower
electricity costs, meaning lower prices for everyday goods and services,
which will benefit every household and local businesses.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Obviously, the fuel saving is a good thing, or people
see it as being a good thing, but the fact
that it's only for a year, I mean, does it
need to be longer than that.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
There will be further announcements made ahead of the election
which will be out in due course which will benefit
all territories. Katie.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Now, in terms of one of the other issues that
you've touched, on was infrastructure. I mean, what do you
think needs to happen when it comes to infrastructure and
the seat of lingiari.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Ah. Look, the roads are, like I said, has got
completeness in particularly in the rural and remote communities. Sana
Tree's road has not been completed. I mean, we've got
two point eight million dollars for an upgrade in the
last federal budget, which doesn't touch the sides for the territory.
(05:50):
We need to actually fight this together and to improve
the infrastructure for the territory.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Is there any particular roads that you think, you know
need to be a priority.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Definitely the completion of the Santa Treza roads. They've been
advocating for that for a very long time. And on
the Port Peage community have been advocating for so long,
for many many years to have their roads upgraded. I mean,
the Sort Highway needs an upgrade, Barkley Highway needs an
upgrade in around out Litchfield Elector it needs upgrades as well.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Now just looking at the cost of you know, not
only the cost of living, but when it comes to connectivity,
and this is something that we've spoken about yesterday on
the show with the candidates for Force Aloman as well.
You look at the cost of flights. So I know
that a large portion of Lingiari are remote and regional areas.
But when you look at the cost of flights, what
do you think could be happening on a federal stage
(06:50):
to try and make us more connected here in the
Northern Territory to the rest of Australia.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Well, what I can say is if we look at
ten week on the way that en Or flies into
tener Creek probably twice a week, which means that if
anyone's living in tenner kreeg it means they need to
fly outside of those two days. I need to fly
from day and two Catherine or two other strings and
then hire a vehicle to drive to Tenny Creek. It's
(07:20):
not acceptable. So it's something that we need to be
looking at, which will be interested you to be looking
at to ensure that one it's less cost too, we're
actually providing that the regional flights into tenne Creek so
that they're not having to double given an extent in
hiring vehicles or accommodations to get to their destination.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Now, just finally, what do you see as being the
major issues as we lead into the federal election and
how are you going to ensure the voices of Territorians
are heard on a national stage if elected.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
The major issue that I see is the cost of
living and the first thing I'll be doing is working
alongside just Enterprise, Peter Dunne and Leahs and Maki, and
we need to work together. As I said, it's a
territory government and federal government problem and we really need
to start working together if we're going to be dealing
with these issues and to get the territory back on track. Katie, Well, what.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Would happen if you got elected but it was still
a labor government? Would you be able to work with
the labor government to try to make things happen for
the NT?
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Absolutely, Katie. We need to work with all three tiers
of government for the best interests of the Northern Territory
and That's what I'm going to be doing if elected.
I'll be a strong voice to get this done for
the territory.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Well, Lisa, we have pretty much run out of time,
so thank you so very much for having a chat
to us this morning as part of our Meet the
Candidate series.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Thank you very much for your time, Katie and you
have a good day and toeer listeners you too.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Thank you
