Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's talk at club football National League into round two today.
Dale Warburton is our local football analysts morning Dale.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah, here you going.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
I'm good. Thanks, So, I guess not the greatest of
starts from a Wellington perspective anyway, to the National League
last week, no Wellington teams are recording a win the
competition front runners Olympic getting a points down with Coastal
Spirits last weekend in Canterbury. But yeah, losses against the
names of the other Wellington teams, well Dale. Let's see
(00:28):
if well we can get a win on the board
for the Capital region today. Starting off up in Auckland,
Birkenhead United playing host to Western Suburbs.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah. Westin Suburbs had a pretty pretty rough return to
the National League. They lost four no at home to
Kashmir Tech. The crash each base side the relatively close game,
with Kashmi taking a one new League in the first half,
but then they had another ten minute patch. They've scored
three more goals in the way through the second half
to really blow the game wide open. Suburde probably doesn't
(01:00):
get much a year from here. They got to trip
up to say to Birkenhead. They lost last week to
Auckland Sea which sounded a pretty close game, but you'd
think at home Bing would be the favorites going to
that one.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
All right, it's exciting one at three o'clock at Martin
Lucky Park, a repeat of the Chatham Cup final just
a few weeks ago, Wellington Olympic up against Auckland City.
How do you expect this one to go on on
Olympic time turf to Starndale.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, pretty good. Glass's fun. As you say, both finalists
in the Channel Cup last weeknd Olympic One that one
on penalties and both sides contested that the final of
the National League last year where Olympic One won that final.
They also there's a side one three to one in
the league as well last year, so will a lot.
We've had at a number on Auckland City for last
(01:44):
year or so. But they are coming back of a
pretty disappointed nol Nell draw way to Coastal Spirit. It
puts them a little bit on the back foot a
little bit. Based on previous seasons. You need about twenty
one twenty two points to qualify the final, but see
sort of dropping about sex or so points and already
(02:05):
dropped two so if they lose today, that's really going
to dip their chances there for Alkm. They're coming off
that one over Burkinghead. But yeah, should be a pretty
tight game out at the mun Lucky.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah, looking forward to seeing how that hands up to
hit along if you're keen to check out to some
no doubt quality football to tomorrow's Actiondale and getting to
look at the Central League teams. Nape Ce Rovers have
the trip up north to Eastern Suburbs.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, very tricky, tricky one for them. I think it's
something naper. They're coming off a pretty solid fauna win
over Western Springs. It's probably maybe the score line is
probably a bit more flattering than we, perhaps people expected.
They've got Oscar Ford's back from them, who's had a
bit of venture overseas, some trials that didn't quite work
out for him. He's been a goal scoring machine and
centrally he's picked up one goal last last week, a
(02:48):
pretty spectacular one at that trailing up to Eastern Springs.
So they'll be pretty pretty tough game Eastern Springs. Yeah.
I think the lessener second in the or third I
think in the in the league up in the Auckland
and coming off a tun Or win over Wellington Phoenix,
so you had another truck the tough trip for the
Central League side.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah, okay, and then Wellington Phoenix Reserves another one of
the teams held scoreless last weekend. They've got the trip
to Cashmere Tech in christ Church.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yes, so they lost two to Seastern Suburbs last weekend.
They had it was nil all going for the last
ten minutes and then two goals in the last ten minutes.
Obviously we've got the points there for Eastern Suburbs. I
think one of the thanks probably a little bit weaker
than previous seasons, although last week they did have David
Ball playing about sixty minutes he works his way back
(03:35):
to fitness for the A League season. They also had
a couple of fringe players and gave you our sloan
ro Riuguez and Luke Suku played for them as well.
It's game finished three to three between the two sides
last year, so hopefully we'll get another entertaining one down
in English Park, but I think probably cash Me Tech
will be the favorites going to that one.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yeah. Great, and the only one we haven't covered Dale
to the game featuring two non Central League teams Western
Springs Coastal Spirit. What's your thoughts on how competitive that
could be?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, I guess Chris Spur probably surprising everyone with that
draw against Ron Olympics, so they'll be happy with that
and perhaps may indicate they might cause it a few
some problems with a few sides in the National League.
With Springs started with that four and a loss, so
they probably would have would have been backing themselves to
try upset the sort of Auckland City bying Olympic favoritism
(04:24):
and try sneak into that final. But that loss really
puts them in a little bit of tricky spot. But yeah,
they probably should be going too that one favorite at
home and with a very strong squad. But yeah, we'll
see how on that pans out.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
And dB, well, all right, five interesting games across the weekend.
We'll have coverage of those ones today here on News Talks.
They'd be as part of our local sport coverage. Good
