Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's the ol Sport Breakfast here on News Talk ZB
and the ANZ Netbral Premiership is heading into its final
round this weekend. Three games to go in the round robin. Remarkably, though,
it'll be the final game on Monday night right here
in Wellington that determines the top qualify for the playoffs,
the team that will go straight through to the Grand Final.
But even more riveting is the fact that the Poulse
(00:22):
and Tactics, the two teams vying for this position, are
level on points heading into their big match. How cool
is that that it's coming down to this very moments
of the season to determine top qualifier and the playoff
seedings for the A and Z Netball Premiership. So yes
are the Pulse host the Tactics seven thirty Monday night
at TSB Arena. We're going to take you into the
(00:44):
Pulse camp now because goal shoot Emdia Warmsley has been
battling an injury for a lot of the season. She's
had two games back now and slowly increasing her minutes.
So great to have her and the likes of Maddy
Gordon Antiana Batudo have all had big injuries the Sea
and back in time for this important game and of
course the playoffs and media is with us now. Thanks
(01:05):
for your time in media and how nice has it
been being back out on court after such a frustrating
injury break.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, thank you for having me. It is so exciting
to be back out on court with my friends. You know,
eight weeks of rehab isn't anything that I wish upon anybody,
And unfortunately our team has had to kind of look
this season, so for everyone to be our on court
as well, not just my stuff, it's super special to
finally have our team being able to play all together.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah. We had Maddie on our show last weekend, who
and I had a very similar injury timeframe with you,
I know your flatmates. What was it nice having one
another to sort of bounce off as you both went
through the rehab process.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, I think I'm really grateful for that. You know,
this was my first like major injury and to be
able to do it alongside one of my good friends
a plus as well, Matt. We have Kiana Williams and
Kiana who died too, so we were all a little
a little crew, and you know that we were able
to do our reheads Theather doing hard w back sessions
(02:04):
by her stuff isn't super fun. So to be able
to do that alongside your mates, it makes it a
lot easier. And so when like the team goes away
and stuff like that for games that you know, we
weren't able to go to, having a friend definitely helped.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yeah. Great, you had about twenty minutes in your return
a couple of weeks ago, just over thirty minutes coming
on in the late in the second quarter against the
Mystics last weekend. Are you ready for a start yet
the media this weekend?
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I'm not too sure. That's up to the coach and
what she decides to do. I am available for more
minutes this weekend. You know, we're just going to keep
building up, building up the load. I'm ready for whatever
she wants. Yeah, but at the end of the day,
it is her division, and yeah, it's up to her
what she wants to do. But I do have more
minutes this weekend.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Having sat on the sidelines, and I know you managed
to get along to most of the home games as
well to stay within the team environment. Did that give
you an insight and to give you some some knowledge
of you know, the pulse of strengths or work on
through the seas we were able to offer much in
terms of what you analyzed from.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
The sideline, Yeah, definitely. I think being on the sideline
allowed all of us to just watch and observe and
just offer our heart wearable it could. You know, as
soon as I got injured, I said, I'm going to
be the biggest cheerleader for my team. So just spitting
there and being able to offer a halping hand where
I could was really important for me. So, you know,
we had Martina come in and they're quite fresh, quite
(03:24):
a fresh shooting end, so Tiana and I worked really hard,
especially Tiana worked really hard to try and build the
confidence within that end and build some connections through there.
So yeah, I was able to watch and offer my
advice where it was needed, but obviously not to be
too overbearing. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
At what stage of the recovery were you able to
actually start shooting again.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, so I was in a restricted brace for four weeks.
For the first two weeks I was non weight bearing
and crutches, and then it was fully restricted. You know,
there was no inflection at all in it. So I
definitely wasn't able to do any of that once I
got out of the crutches after two weeks, I was
allowed to wait there a bit more, but there was
(04:07):
still very minimal slection. So you know, I could shoot
after a couple of weeks of being in the brace,
but it wasn't very comfortable because I couldn't bend my
knee so I could properly start shooting once I was
out of the brace. So after about three and a
half four weeks, Oh.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Great, and I'm back back ready to go. Now, what
an amazing scenario we have on You know, we have
on our hands here final game of the season, both
yourselves and the tactics level on points to pretty much
decide who's going to go through to host that that
home final. How exciting is it to be knowing that
all uys are coming down to Monday night?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, it's so exciting. I think we're so so grateful
to have our home home crowd with us this week.
And we've been on the road for three well, the
team has been on the road for three games now
and for us injured once two, we've been back for two,
so you know it's time to come home. We've got
amazing fans and to be able to play a game
like this in front of them that we're surfer stoked with.
(05:03):
It's going to be a great battle out there. I mean,
you couldn't ask for a better game to come and watch. Really,
it's a tope of cable clash. We're going to give
it our absolute or to make sure that we you know,
we can have a break in which were in the
elimination final and the final. Also just to reward our
hard work. We're being so resilient like the adversity and
our team has been absolutely ridiculous. You know, our whole
(05:25):
attacking is basically been might dealt with injury and then
our defensive end has been quite sick throughout the season.
So it's just, yeah, it's an important game for us.
We just want to reward ourselves, reward our fans for
their support. Yeah, and hopefully bring home bring home a
home final.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, and just riveting, isn't it considering that the battles
that the Pulse have had with the tactics already this
seasons and incredibly tight ones one extra time one. It's
all on, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, it's all on. It's going to be a great game.
It's going to be really tough out there. I can
imagine that they're they're working really hard. This week. We're
working even harder, i'd like to say, just to try
to repare ourselves as much as possible. Yeah. Absolutely, go
and smash it, Go and smash it.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
