Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we always do. To kick things off, we talked Bowls.
Rod Leach, board member of Bowls Wellington, back with us.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good a ROZs morning, Adam, how are you.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
I'm good, thanks Rods, and yes we'll get to today's
double into club rounds and just a moment but a
cloud out there, so hopefully the weather holds too. First though,
some sad news for the Wellington bowls community this week, Rot.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yes, we received some fairly sad news during the week
that Jury McGregor, of the Bowls Wellington past prison and
life member passed away. He had been suffering for a
little while, but it's always sad when you hear people
passing away. And here he put years and years into
the administration of bowls in the Wellington area and we
all fully appreciated his time and efforts because he did
a marvelous job. So the team from Bowls Wellington, all
(00:42):
the Bowls Wellington family parts on their condolences to Jerry's family.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, thoughts are with Jerry MacGregor's friend z En and
family too. Nice tribute, Rods. Okay, let's go to some
of the action last week. When we spoke a week ago,
it was heading into a quite exciting phase of the
Open fours. How did it all eventuate in the days
after that?
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah, it was quite interesting that under eighteen team that
I announced actually made the final in the Lady's draw.
They got beaten in the final, but what a great
effort from Lily's Signal, Thevaya, Hicky Maya Carve and Gita Ramash.
That's outstanding to make a final and that sort of
event for these four very very young players. The event
was won by John Saw, which is another great result
(01:22):
of the club. Paul Meredith won her twentieth Center title,
which gives her another addition to a gold Star list.
The two other Lynette Campbell and Nelson Colgate they got
their third title. Leach and Deborah Dean she received her
first title, which is always.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
A great thrill.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
And there's a lot of debate about who the best
Bollards in that family between Deborah and Terry, and I
think we can clearly says Deborah now weird one, but
no doubt one will come.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Very good alright. And how did the Means final go?
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, Mean's final was a very close affair.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
It was to the diff playing the last and Adam
Turner came out triumphant and that he beat his team
from Silver String beat the team of Rob Ashton from Miramar.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Adam had haymous Ryan at three.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Marshall Kenny and Simon Kenny at two in Leed and
Marshall being the son of Simon, so that was a
great family result there. They beat Rob Ashton from Mirama
and he's been around for many, many years, one of
the highest achievers in both Wellington, Rob had gim Swift,
Pat Fleming and Dave Allen. It gave Adam his fourth
center title, but his first team event. He's won the
open singles three times and he's now won a team
(02:21):
events that puts him on four, one away from his
gold star. For the other three it's all their first title,
so very exciting for them as well.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, great, well, congratulations to everyone there. Another one in
the books and the way the generally played ball, didn't
it rod So Bolls would like to be pretty happy
with with how it all went. I'm sure great.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
We did lose a week bit of play on the Sunday,
there was more came back on the Monday than the
normal normally it's the semi final final, but we're down
at quarters and the men and Semis and the ladies
because we had a bit of a rain interrupted on
Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
All right, well, congratulations again to those winners. Right into
club back this weekend Rods. Sin's a busy day today,
isn't it very much?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
So today we have a doubleheader, so there's going to
be a hectic day, and it's sort of like in
a good golf tournament's moving day. Really if you want
to get yourself into the top four. Had morning in
the men's nine, I play Plymington at home and I
think nine I would win that Patoni Central who are
now battling there on the bottom of the table. They've
got Stokes Valley who's second, so correctly you'd have to
(03:18):
think Stokes Valley will beat them and Patoni CENTRALI need
to do some a lot.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Of roundwork to get out of that relegation spot. Victoria
played Mirramar.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I was told never to pick Victoria again by Ray Martin,
but I'm sorry, I've got to pick them. Ray. I
think they might be too strong for Miramar and Mirramara
at the near well, they're in about seventh spots, so
they're still a chance to make the four.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
But they do have to do a lot of hard work.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Taber played White NEWI I think Taro will be victorious
there and Johnson will play Hart and I'll go back
to picking the Johns will boys are on top now,
so long may continue.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Okay, and then another round this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, this afternoon, Patoni Central had Miramar, so that's that's
a game that could help Patoni Central get off that
bottom spot, and I think they'd beat Miramar. Johns will
get out to Plymoton to play on the their carpet
green out there, but I think Johnson will be too strong.
That it is a lovely carpet green. They're Plymouth and
green and sometimes say hovid Vatage is great. But I
think everyone can adapt to that green very easily. So
I think that Johns fall boys should have a good day.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Harbor played nine E.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
I'd like to think nine I would win that Heart
played Stokes Valley Stakes. Vally should beat Heart and Victoria
WAUI that should be a winter Victoria. The other good
news is that Robbie Byrd, although not back on the Green,
is out of hospital. He spent a month in hospital.
He's on the road to recovery, so that's great news
for him.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, brilliant news indeed. And the women are also into double.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Rounds double round Yeah. Round seven sees nine. I play
Stokes Valley. Now that's two play four, so that could
halt someone's progress, but or could help someone. I think
at nine I might win that. Johns will played for
Tony Central. I'll stick with the Johnsall girls up well
out in front. I think they're pretty much secure top spot,
even though three rounds ago and a lot of points
up for Grahams.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I think they'll be hard to topple off top spot.
Plymington played Victoria.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I think Plymington well Victoria ahead of them, but I'm
picking Plymington will win that one. Silver Taber plays silver
Stream at Tawa. Silver treams up there in third. Tarer's
down in fifth, another one that would have to get
a good result. They are a fair way off there,
twenty odd points off the four, but I think silver
Stream will be too strong. Hat played Mirram at Merrimah.
(05:16):
I think mirramar being bolling the table.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Hat on not a ninth spot, so it's a chance
for one of them to move away, but I think
that will win them.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Great and then they'll be heading around town on the
road to get ready for another round.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Round eight.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Stokes Valley played hat that should be a window Stokes Valley,
Johns will play nine to one, it's one play two.
Hopefully Johns will are too strong. We have still got
Dale Rayner out so she's actually in Australia. I think
I said she might have been dropped because she wasn't
available for the playoffs which is actually away at the
Obbor of Bowls in Australia, so it might have been
a bit harsh on the selectors or even Dale there.
She may still be a dance to player there. Johns
(05:50):
will team when she gets back. Now silver Street and
then silver Street played Victoria. I think silver Stream will
be too strong there. Plymington played for Tony Central Wlymington
should be the team that I think they could win
that although that's fairly even on the table. And Tarwa
Miramar and give a win to Tarell there that it
could be a good day for Tarwar potentially, you know,
there may be a chance to slip into the four.
Who knows all right?
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Very good and then another tournament next weekend, is it
rod none of.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
The tournament next weekend? We kick off the open singles,
which is always highly contestant. If Adam turners in and
you're trying to look for four, I haven't actually kicked
the field, but we're down slightly on players, not as
drastically as we thought we would, running down by ten
players overall, so it's a fairly good result. But we
we'd rather see numbers go up and down always, but
here that kicks off next Saturday.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
All right, looking forward to chatting about that then, Rods.
Thanks as always, you have a great weekend and we'll
speak next Saturday's.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Good to you then.
