Speaker 1 (00:00):
Club Cricket. Next on the list, Matt Wilson, out of
Cricket Wellington, joins us. Morning to you, Matt, and I
know the plan around now is to move on to
the grass wickets, but I'm sure that the week's weather
has made things a bit of a challenge for you.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah. Yeah, it's always traditionally this week that we have
to really juggle, the juggle the grounds and the pictures
around Wellington, and of course this was the week we
wanted to get on some grass and the weather's not
quite played ball. So sadly we're back on the artificials,
but hopefully just for one more week as we get

(00:36):
underway with our women's competition which is exciting today, and
our men's start their fifty overs as well.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Lovely all right, and we'll get to that shortly. But first, Matt,
obviously the long weekend last weekend, the first champions of
the summer, we're Crowns and the men's top division run
us through what happened on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, so Saturday was well, firstly a bit chaotic because
there was some rain around which which unfortunately canceled canceled
our semi finals, but we got a got a final
scheduled on Sunday and we got through us. In the
end it was Eastern Suburbs against Karrori, who both finished
top of the pools East first and paul A and
Karori first and Paul b. It was a reduced over

(01:17):
his game in the end, so only ten overs each side,
but Easts went out first at a blistering plate, a
blistering pace, i might say, with Jacob Buller absolutely going
nuts with the bat at the top of the order
in his last game and New Yealand before he heads overseas,
so he definitely was looking to go out with a

(01:37):
bang eighty eight off twenty nine balls at Alex Moore Park,
a few sixtors onto the road and into some houses.
Thankfully the houses were okay, but an incredible knock from
him at the top of the order for East, which
as it so happens, just took the game away from
Karori even before the rain. Amazing innings from him, and

(02:00):
of course, yeah, a big total was set. They made
one hundred and seventy seven, but that total got reduced
down to one hundred and fifty four with the LS
brought into play there, so it was one hundred and
fifty four for three to target for East in ten
overs and Karori just just couldn't quite get there in
the end, just not enough over to get that sort

(02:20):
of a target and they were bowled out to seventy six.
So some quality bowling from the East East bowlers as
well and they got home to retain the T twenty
Cup for the second year in a row. So congratulations
Seas and Suburbs.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, great achievement. Congratulations to them, as you say, Matt,
and yeah, the season moves on now. So yeah, what
format's next starting from today?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, so the men start the fifty over format today,
so Division one EU and Chatfield Trophy and Division two
the Hazlet Trophy. So as always at the top of
the pyramids and big games to look out for today
in round one at Miramar Park. This has been transferred
from hot Wreck just as I mentioned before, we just
can't quite get on grass. So we're at Merrima Park

(03:03):
today for Hut District against vic Uni. Hut District of
course the reigning Peace Cup champions. So they're up against
pick in that one Tiger who are our one and
two day defending champions. They're up against Karr Corrory obviously
back in the big time this year, promoted last year,
so they're playing Peace Cup both formats and did won
the season, so that should be an interesting battle between

(03:23):
those two teams. So interestingly have been battling it out
in the T twenty pool stage in recent weeks, so
there could be a little bit on matt game today
as they into their fifty overs. That's out at Fraser
Park and Eastern Suburbs who we just spoke about T
twenty champs recently crowned. They are at home on Kilburny
Park against Onslow who also into the Peace Cup this year,

(03:44):
playing both one day and two day cricket. Some some
really really good first up matches in Division one to
kick off our fifty overs.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Yeah, wonderful. What about down Division two.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Matt Yep in Division two the Hazlits Johnsonville have come
down and did one last year. They'll be looking off
to get to a strong start against Upper Heart. That
game was originally scheduled for bart and Over. We have
moved that to alex More Park today, but that should
be a good battle between two good sides looking a
definitely push for promotion back into Division one in the

(04:17):
one day formats Patoni. They are at home to North City.
That game's been shifted from Patoni Wreck to Sladen Park.
There two sides last year that were I guess in
the middle of the road but had some good battles
than in. Patoni were the overall hast champs last season.
So yeah, I think they definitely are looking to kick
on this year. That'll be a good game there against
North and nine nine Y they do battle at nine

(04:39):
to I Park, the two local rivals out in the
Hut giving it a go in round one.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Great and great news start in November. It means the
women's club cricket, the premier competition start this weekend as well.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah, that's right, really exciting to see the women get
underway today. I know they've had a few preseason hitouts
and there. They've all hit our preseason meeting last week
and they're all raring to go. It's going to be
great to see the six sides get underway today in
round one of the T twenty competition. North City, who
were I guess Patoni's main challenges last year to the title.

(05:14):
They're up against Collegians at Lyndon Park. Johnsonville. They're up
against City Suburbs at Kilburny Park. That game has been
shifted there from Alex Moore and Potoni are defending T
twenty and one day champions For the women. They are
up against Upper Heart and that one is at Patoni Wreck,
the only game this weekend that would managed to get

(05:34):
onto a grass wicket, so really good for the women
to get out on that pitch today and those again
should be all really good first round matchups.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Great well, awesome to have the season underway for them.
We will have some score updates and results as they
come in through the afternoon here on News Talks ZB
where they're looking pretty promising as well, which is great Matt.
Thanks for your time as always well chat again next.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
