Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's start though, as we always do with bowls. Jason
Puddock is back with us in studio to talk bowls money.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Jason morning Adam. Yeah, he hasn't been too bad a
week weather, he hasn't been great, but you know, we got.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Through it and some good signs for the weekend, which
is the most important thing. Let's look back though, and
speaking of whether I know well it's got a little
bit dicey at some stages of the weekend last week
for the Kancer Society Mixed Pears.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, look, the weather didn't start out well, so we
had to make some early calls in terms of moving
from the grass greens to the artificial greens. But in
the end it was the right call. Even though some
of the section play was interrupted, we did get through
to the final on Monday as scheduled. So and thanks
to obviously the nine I facility gave us the opportunity
(00:42):
to finish the tournament on time.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Great news and yes, so run us through how things
sort of panned out from the quarter final stages.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yes, in the quarter finals we had the husband and
wife Perry and of Gary and Rosanna Murowi from Martinbourough
and the Wire Rappa up against Brady Ama and Hannah Dawson,
a composite team, with the Martin Bough team coming out
on top. Twenty eight eighteen James Cameron Powell and Birdie
Love that's a mother and son combination out of States
Valley playing another Stakes Valley combination, and husband and wife
(01:08):
of Blake and Angela signal, with Blake and Angela coming
out on top of that one. Fourteen eleven, Tania Wheeler
and Scott Roddick, which was a composite team edged Ken
Adam and Kaiwong for Toni Central fifteen twelve, and Gavin
McLeod and Pat Povey of TAWA lost to John Zeno
and Marlene Alberino Kay's sixteen ten. That left us into
(01:30):
the semifinals, where we saw the husband and wives teams
going heads ahead, with Gary and Rosanna up against Blake
and Angela, and we saw Blake and Angela picking up
five shots across the last two ends to sneak home
by one shot, so a good tight battle there. In
the other semifinal, we had Tania and Scott up against
John and Marlene, and John and Marlen came out on
(01:51):
that top of that one. Seventeen thirteen. So in the
final we had Blake and angel from Stakes Valley and
John and Marleen from Ireland Bay and that ended up
being a one side affair with Blake and Angela cruising
to a victory of twenty to six in the end.
That gives Blake his eleventh Center title and Angela her
fourth center title, so she's won away from her gold Star,
(02:12):
so she'll be looking i'm sure later in the season
to get that one in the pocket as well. And
it's worth noting as well, we had a few players
down at Dunedin for the Northeast Valley Mixed Peers. Weather
affected again down there as well, but fortunately they've got
an indoor stadium in Dunedin. We saw clear Hendra out
of silver Stream finish runner up in that event with
her partner Craig Merrilees.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Great congratulations to them and to everyone for those results
are last week at the mixed pairs, so that means
I guess we'll be into Interclub back again this weekend.
Jason second round.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
YEP second round of the Dynasty Sport Interclub looking forward
to it where it looks like it's going to be okay,
so it shouldn't be too many problems in the men.
First up, we have nine to I hosting Stokes Valley
and Stakes Valley severely under strength with four of their
top seven players away playing in the Stoke Peers this weekend,
so a tough battle for them. Johnsonville hosts Mirrama, Plymoton
(03:04):
against Victoria, Lyell Bay against Island Bay, so the battle
of the Bays there, so it would be a good
one to keep an eye. But for me, match of
the day for the men will be Tawer against Potoni Central,
the two promoted teams from last season, so one had
a draw last week and one had a loss, so
we've throwne all those teams looking for their first win
(03:26):
and the woman Tawa host Plymoton, States Valley host Potony Central,
silver Stream travel to nine Aine and upper Most host Mirrima.
But match of the day for me will be Victoria
versus Johnsonville. Johnsonville back to full strength with Karen Guildford
and Dale Rayna back from playing Pears down the South
Island and two teams with title contention, so interesting all right,
(03:51):
and Johnsonville yet we sound like a tough team to
beat as well, so yeah, we'll watch with interested. We'll
have some of those results as they come in as
part of our local sport coverage here on z'd be
this afternoon And Jason, I know there's a couple of
events that bowls Wellington is sort of looking for a
few more entries for people. Got a couple more days
to get those in. Yeah, So the Lower Heart after
our Open fours, was due to close yesterday, but it
(04:13):
is now closing on Monday. So if you're having it,
put a team in by all means, get a group
before you together and chuck a team And for that,
we've got a new event on the calendar this year
which is the Power Bowl or Power Bowls Singles and Pears,
and we're definitely look for similar entries for that. So
again that closes on Monday, So get entries in this
weekend because it's a couple of great events there.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Nice and just to wrap up tomorrow, another one of
these ready to roll events. This is really cool.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, so obviously the first one was very successful, so
as we mentioned, there was another one to come. So
those clubs involved tomorrow will be Seatoon, PA, Tony Central
and Massiev. So if you're living in those areas and
you want to give the game a go and you're
with it's your son, your daughter, your mother, your father,
your grandfather, your grandmother, to sport for everyone, So get along,
(05:02):
see what it's about and enjoy yourself.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Fantastic, Well, great to see another one of those events
taking place. Do get involved if you are in those
areas and you can find out the timings and everything
on the Bowls Wellington website and social media channels. There
we go, Jason, thanks as always, good luck for everyone
taking part today. Thanks for your time as always, and
enjoy the weekend.
