Speaker 1 (00:00):
From junior Netball at Hiti to the Pulse at TSV.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
We've got it covered on the All Sport Breakfast with
Rutherford and Bonn Toyota and King Toyota on News Talks
at b He talks at me. Let's talk about a
netball Now. Central Pulse back up the top of the
AMC Netball Premiership Ladder with three games to go. It
came up to Monday's when over the Steel down South,
so they now lead the Tactics by just one competition point.
The Pulse are away to the Magic Cup in Hamilton
(00:25):
on Monday night. Will avoiding these significant injuries this year
has been the defensive line Kelly Jackson and goalkeep and
gold offense Paris Mason. They have been playing brilliantly and
really denying team's goals and attacking opportunities. I spoke to
Paris Mason at Pulse training earlier in the week. Paris
approaching a busy few weeks, a big few weeks for
the team of this competition. Can you just tell us
(00:46):
how you've assessed the way things have gone this season?
Obviously that the team's had some real setbacks, some challenges,
but many of those overcome.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, Honestly, we did not expect to have so many injured,
so many down, and we've had a lot of adjustments
that needed happen throughout the season.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
But I think we've taken it in our stride.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I think each week, everything that's been thrown at us,
we just grow from it. So we've stayed really close
and connected. We're proud of the girls that went through rehab.
We're part of the girls that we're on court consistently
each week, and we're just doing it together and each
each time we just know that they're gonna give it
up back out there soon, and we've done it as
best as we can. We put ourselves in a really
(01:23):
good position for their return, and we've just all enjoyed
it and all really had the great time to grow
and had the opportunity to learn how to get over
the all of the adversities we've had to face.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Was that tough to start with, and you know, the
mental keeping that mental strength to know you can get
through it.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Oh, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I think even we were starting with our tea and
that was even just a little bit of an uncertainty
for us, and then another one went down, Mads, and
then that's that's our cold in the middle of our court.
So that was harsh, and then we had meals go
down and she's like, I'll post at the back. So
each week was definitely hard to come by. The knocks
were really harsh, but again we had some really great
people stepping up and Counta Plascia Martina, they came in
(02:01):
and they just really said, hey, I'm here and I
can do this views and we're really proud of what
they've come and done. And then obviously Cleary coming back.
She's amazing right coming out of retirement, slotting in. This
is her home and we're glad to have her back in.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
One area that's managed to avoid the injuries is the
defensive line. And just tell us about that accommodation of
yourself and Kelly this year, what you've achieved and you
know the stats to show for it, but keeping some
other teams to really low scores as well.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, obviously been around Cows for a good couple of
years now and it's really good to be able to
get consistent minutes with her, and that connection is really bottomed,
especially in this early starts of the season. We've kind
of got that invisible thread going on now, which has
come really fast, but it's working and we're doing really well.
We grow together. She helps me learn, I help her learn.
(02:48):
We're very good at just communicating and we're trying our hardest,
and they give me support to be me and I
give support to her to be her. And yet we've
got great outside defense that also are helping us keep
telling them at such low margins.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
When you know someone so well and we've played a
lot with them, how do you make sure you're constantly
evolving and continuing to improve alongside each other?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, not only me and Cows are like obviously really
good teammates to be really good friends off core, I
think we know each other on a lot deeper level.
I know how she works and she knows me, So
we do constantly evolve. We know we can always be better,
and we know that even though most times is invisible
thread the off moment that we're not and we want
to fix all ways.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
We always want to be better. And that's what I
think we.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Love about each other is that we always just want
to grow and we take on.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
We're like sponges.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
We just want to absorb all the knowledge and make
sure that we are taking making sure that we're growing in.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Terms of your time at the polls. How nice has
it been this this latest stint? This is quite long
run being a regular starter in this team. What's that
done to your confidence as an netballer? Just, you know,
having the coaches and selectors right behind you for regular starts.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, I think it's one of my first really big
goals was to be able to be into the composition
and be playing constant minutes. I think it took me
a while to find my feet in the starting scene position,
but I've had really good support around me, especially throughout
the start of the season, just making sure that I
know how to ease my way into it. Obviously, I'm
used to going really hard for very short moments of time,
so being able to keep that consistency over sixty minutes
(04:12):
is still growing for me.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
But obviously I'm enjoying every minute.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I'm really stoked to be able to get out there
every week and just show to everyone what I have
and what I can do.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
I am enjoying it. Everyone wants to be.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
On the court, and I'm just glad I've finally got.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
The opportunity magic this week. Obviously a tough trip up
when you last played them. How much has that been
talked about this week or the video looked back on
and things for this another big, big game.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, a bit of a redemption round, I guess. But obviously,
like I said, that was a really uncertain time for us.
We had a lot of fresh injuries, a lot of
stuff happening in camp that probably affected us, and there
was no excuse for how we performed in that But
we also know that we were a lot better than
that day performed And I think we're just excited to
get out there and have another crack at it, and
(04:55):
we're just going to make sure that we can stay
in our own game plan and hopefully get a run
back on And it has.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
A big few weeks. There's other top teams that are
in the round robin before playoffs start, So how do
you sort of approach a period like this any differently?
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Little differently, We've got to be a bit more focused,
a bit more locked into this next couple of weeks.
We know that we've got a tough back end of
the season, but we're also really confident in ourselves that
we can do it. Hopefully, introducing our players back into
the game will be really heartful to us.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
But we've just got to be really focused and we
don't have.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Long so every training really counts and we've got to
make sure that those honest conversations coming out, and we
need to make sure that we're growing as fast as
quick leaves are possible because we want to be in
that Grand Final.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
So yeah, tell us about.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
The rivalry with the Tactics this year. Some incredible games
that really low scoring one earlier in the season, then
the extra time one just a couple of weeks ago.
This is amazing what these two teams are throwing at
each other.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Right, Yeah, it's good. I mean that's what you want
for New Zealand nipball.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
I think top to of the table and knowing that
each game has actually been a really good top of
the hit table clash I think is really important for us.
We want to make sure that we're performing for the
audience as much as we're trying to play for ourselves
and be good players. I think it's really important that
we're going to everyone that actually knitball and New Zealand's
really been really amazing this year. I think we've had
really tough competition. Everyone's competing and being able to have
(06:08):
such tough games. That's one and two is really important
for you know, the future of our kootball that to
show that we are here and we are confident that
we can play.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Silver Funds. Have a bit of a quiet schedule this year.
But is that something you're aim at your aiming four.
You've had some good game time now, some good performances.
Is that something in the back of your mind.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, I think everyone that goes into the season, I
think would hope to be fortunate enough to make.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
The Silt Fern's environment.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
For right now, I'm really trying to focus on the Pulse,
but obviously that Silver Ferns is in the back of
my mind, and one day I hope to get there,
and I just whenever it happens, or what happened.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
For me, shure, I just find your word on Arnor
obviously someone that I'm sure has been familiar to everyone
and the team is for some years now. But her
stepping up to the head coaching role this year, what's
she brought to the team, especially the influence on you
as a playing group.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Yeah, I think we've got players that don't always adjust
to change very well, So having a coach that's kind
of just slotted in. Obviously, we've had around for a
while and she's been mentored under a vent so you know,
we trust that she's been given the right pathway to
come for us. And I think coming in is a
hard time. I think anyone that has to make us
step up and be a big presence, and she's been
(07:10):
chucked a.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Lot of you know, rock cards. But yeah, she's doing
really well.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
And I think for us, it's just being able to
have a familiar, familiar person that knows our schedule, knows
how we work really was really key for her coming
in and slotting right in.
