Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wellington's All Sport Breakfast Tweed Adam Cooper thanks to Rutherford
and Bond.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Toyota and King Toyota on News.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Talks'b twenty eight past eight here on the All Sport
Breakfast saw the Central Polse had an absolute thriller in
the ains in Netwoll Premiership and the top of table
clash with the Tactics down in christ Church last Sunday. Unfortunately,
after the extra time period the Pulse coming off second
best and going down in the game, but it certainly
was thrilling and I still only trailed the Tactics by
(00:27):
two points at the top of the ladder. Well after
a frustrating injury that sidelined her for the first two
months of the competition, co captain of the Pulse, Tiana
Matudo has been back for the last couple of games.
She joins me. Now, Tiana, thanks for your time here
on the All Sport Breakfast this morning. How thrilling was
it finally being able to run back out in Pulse
colors the other week?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, I think the most frustrating part was probably just
not knowing exactly how long I was going to be
out for, because I think aditially it was five weeks
and then it went to seven and just all all
those kinds. So it was really nice to be back
out on court a couple of weeks ago. And yeah,
now I'm just slowly gradually building my minutes, which is cool.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yeah. So you played just under thirty minutes in that
extra time thriller against the Tactics last weeks, so shadow,
where exactly are you at in terms of managing that
final part of the recovery in terms of game time
out on the court.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, well, I was only meant to play about fifteen
to twenty minutes and then we ended up going into
the extra time and now I have thirty minutes in
the next couple of weeks, still going well and then
build up for closer to the idal grounds of the competition.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
And seeing yourself, Maddie Gordon and Amdia Warmsley all injured
but all being on the bench throughout the games. How
important has it been staying involved as much as you
can while you had to sit on the sidelines.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah. I kind of think it's all throughout the well,
all throughout the time that I was injured that I
couldn't think of a better environment to be injured. Than
I think it's a really supportive space here, and I
some days we're hard. Majority of the time, I did
want to be around the girls and be better support them,
and as a co captain, I know that my strength
is communication and being able to up with the team,
(02:08):
so that was sort of my focus. And I was
lucky enough to travel with the team a few times,
and I felt like that was my job just to
bring the best out of them and make sure that
they felt really supportive. But yeah, really it just sucks
being injured, and it sucks to see the other three
girls keeps as well go through go through this, especially
(02:32):
during the season when we had such a great preseason
injury free, and then I guess that we all spell
off of it, but we're slowly rebuilding.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
It's just good and our presidents have been watching on
as several of you went down, but a bunch of
players came up from the next grade down the Mono
were tay below and have performed brilliantly.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, it's just it was just really cool to see
that we could maintain our position throughout most of that
most of those nine ten weeks, however long it was,
and I think it was really cool to see how
feel us they were. I think that was the thing
that I really admired the most in that regardless of
(03:11):
different thing that has happened, they were just so unfazed.
I suppose. Then we had Martinez coming in and she
just did amazing keecks, and Anelia held down the sport
for quite a while, and you know what, needed a
really amazing job as well, just leading our checking in,
especially when medsment down. So just a lot of really
(03:31):
great moments I think came out of that time.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
And Claire Hurston's been back coming out of retirement. Did
you ever imagine playing nitball with her again? And how's
it been on the receiving end of her feeds down court?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, see some really awesome and she's still super fit
and she's doing so well. It's just really nice to
see back in our environment and I think she's just
she looks really happy, which is I think a really
it's a really cool thing to see, particularly because she
(04:03):
I think she just flourished in our environment the last time,
at least when I was playing with her, I felt
that she did. And it's nice to see her playing
some really good network, especially after barely playing anything the
last twelve months. So it's really cool to headed back.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
All right, And in terms of last weekend, how much
of you and the team delve into what actually happened
an extra time against the Tactics. It was pretty thrilling stuff.
You were going golf for goal in that exciting final quarter,
then an extra time the Tactics pulled away to win
that seven to and take the game. What has been
the reflection on the way things panned out there.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I think a lot of really good lessons have come
out of that game. I still back out of checking
in in the decision that we made. I know a
lot of people are our sole like you've held the
little ones who held the ball, but if anyone understands
netbel they would have seen how well the Technics were
tecking him were playing and we didn't actually get a
little ball of them. I think we only got one
game in the last quarter. And so with us, with
(04:57):
the faith that our teching group had collectively, we stuft
that we could have done. We did what we wanted
to do. However, we just didn't quite execute the last
couple of passes and to turn it into a goal.
But to still be able to hold the ball for
fifty or forty something a chickens. However long that was,
it's still really impressive, So nots learning. I will not
(05:20):
disclose all of our all of the findings that we've
had from that match. However, we're really look forward to
playing them for the last round.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, all right, And some incredibly defensive oriented games this
year as well, especially that first one you played against
the Tactics a couple of months ago, where you would
have been watching from the sidelines. What have you made
of some of these low scoring games this year as
an attacker.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, it's it's an interesting game. I suppose it's a
lot more there's a lot more thinking involved. You obviously,
nobody goes out to play that netball. We want to
go up the ball, so it's really just about posession,
and I suppose that the pressure of the matches and
just how pat the arena was as well. It was
(06:03):
actually a really great atmosphere and it was kind of
one of those matches that you wanted to be involved in.
So I think it's, like I said before, we've learned
a lot. But equally it was a really great defensive
unit too, And like you say, the last the game
before the last one, we only scored I don't even
know if we got to forty points, which is really uncommon.
(06:26):
But we took a lot from that match, and I
suppose our defenses appreciate it probably wasn't as consistent as
it was in the first time when we met the Technics. However,
there was of really great things that happened in the
text that just happened to play a lot better in
the last quarter they were taking in and.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
To these seconds on the ladder, now just two points
back after these ten rounds, considering the injuries the team
has had and where you said, is everyone pretty positive
with the way the season's going.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, No, we're feeling really good, really proud, And I
think that comes to mind in regards to the last
few weeks and just seeing us kind of overcome all
these hurdles and still being able to put out really
great performances, particularly with girls who haven't really been a
part of our like my teena girls who haven't been
a part of our entire build up for our campaign,
(07:16):
and seeing, like you said, our mother a girls step up,
and it's just it's just been a really interesting and
unique season. But We're in a really good position right
now and so really looking forward to the rest of
the STA.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yeah, and that starts with the next game and Potty
do it tomorrow hosting the Stars at Ted open A Arena.
What is the focus here, our focus here and making
sure the team's back on track, Tyanna, Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Think just being really focused on the things that we've
got to I think that's probably the situ way to
approach the game, and just embracing our home crowd. We
love playing at home and we take a lot of
pride and putting out really good performances for them because
we've had so I think we've had a few sellouts
(08:00):
and it's not uncommon, so it's a really exciting time
for us. But I think we know they've got a
really strong teching ins, but they have lost one of
my best snakes, Meeler, which is really sad, and I
know that that's a huge loss for them. However, it's
not the time for us to get complacent, so we're
just gonna tack the game. If we've gotten any other
(08:21):
niche all.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Right, Well, I know everyone hitting along at Potado will
be looking forward to that one tomorrow. To Yanna, really
appreciate your time. Great to chat and awesome to see
you back out on called after the injury, so appreciate
it and go well tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Cool. Thank you for more from News Talks, ed B.
