Speaker 1 (00:00):
From junior netborn at Titi to the Pulse at TSB.
We've got it covered on the All Sport Breakfast with
Rutherford and Vonn Toyota and King Toyota on News TALKSB eleven.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
To eight tier on the All Sport Breakfast, we're talking
at football again and Waterside Karori's women's team are seeking
a maiden National League title and tomorrow's Women's Final they're
taking on defending champions and a team on a forty
eight match unbeaten run. You have forty eight Auckland's United.
That's the final match up at Auckland's North Harbor Stadium tomorrow.
(00:32):
So Waterside Corory traveling up for this one. Joining US
is Ms Starr from the midfield. She's a US import
in the Waterside Grory team this year. Morning to Emma House.
The week's preparation gone ahead of the big match.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah, I think all the girls are super exciting than
obviously at the club for any Wellington team to make
it to the final. And you know, we've just kind
of been preparing and we had a really good National
League and I think it's kind of a nough coming
to heat now and you know, the girls are super
keen to play in a massive stadium like that for
(01:07):
for the trophy. Yeah great.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
And you know, when it seems scoring an average of
three goals per game, like like you and well just
like Rory have in this competition, you must be pretty
happy with with how things are going. Tell us how
your role and what sort of you've done on the
midfield to see that the way you've tried to contribute
to the team.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah, I mean, it was a great team to come into.
Like I was so happy to join the team, and
all the girls have been fantastic from the spirit. There
was never really any kind of like weird period in
the beginning of trying to slot into the team. It
was really quite easy. And that's you know, all credit
to them and the coaches, and I think as we
started to play together more and learn each other's jumps
(01:46):
and businesses, we really have tried to you know, have
a really dynamic midfield, and I've been super lucky to
be able to play with really high quality players and
people like TV in the midfield, people like Staring. We
have a really really strong back line who's let in
like very hugoos this year, and then up top, it's
(02:07):
been so good playing with really fast wingers and the
saker who totally just has like a knack for scoring.
So just as a midfielder is trying to connect our
back line and our front line and do a lot
of work on and off the ball to try to
just like get up the field as much as we
can and you know, utilize our pace and try and
(02:30):
control the game in times when it can get a
bit tectic. And yeah, that's just been my goal throughout
the season. And I think that you know, we've done
quite little, as you know, whether the eleven on the
field or the people coming in off the bench, to
really play at each other's strength and you know, not
change who we are. So I've yeah, I've tried to
(02:51):
do that in the midfield and I think that, yeah,
it's it's worked pretty well so far.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
And the results show for that would United, though their
results certainly show for them themselves as well. Forty eight
games unbeaten for them across all competitions. How much of
a challenge are they going to be this weekend?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Oh, I think it's it's going to be great. Like
they're a good side. People always think aroounce them, and
I think we had a good result against them in
the first game of the season with the JAW. I
think that gave us a lot of confidence, and I
think it also showed that, you know, we're capable of anything, uh,
and we've just grown even more throughout the season. So like,
we know it's going to be a hard game, but
(03:32):
also when you make the final and you play in
big games like this, you want it to be a
tough game, like you want it to be really like
a battle, and I think that that's definitely what it's
going to be because it's everything on the line. There's
nothing that you have to rest for, Like it's the
culmination of a really really long season. So we know
that they're going to come out hard and we're going
(03:53):
to give them respect, but I mean not too much
because yeah, we want to win.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah oh ftess love here. And you know, there's obviously
that long term chat about the winner of this final
not not just lifting the national league title but also
going onto the Oceania Women's Champions League. There must be
some excitement around of what could happen should you get
a good result on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, there's definitely already talk about it. I think we
have to try to not get too ahead of ourselves,
like planning in a vacation already. But you know, it's
definitely tempting because everybody wants to go to you know,
a trousical island for a few days. But yeah, that
would be massive for the club and just such a
cool experience to all have together. So I think it's
(04:36):
definitely in the back of our minds. I think everyone's
pretty much focused on Sunday and we realized that, like, Okay,
this is the job that we have to get done
first before you know, we can think about really going
out in the country.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
You've played around the world, you know us where you're from.
You've played a lot of clubs in Europe. I see
Crystal Palace as well. You've had some time there and Australia.
So what have you got out of playing with the
Waterside Corori this year? And you know what was behind
and wanting to come to New Zealand in the first place.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, I mean I played in Australia before this, so
you know, New Zealand was never too far away and
I came here last year just to travel around a
bit and really kind of fell in love over the country.
And the people. And I was lucky enough to be
put in touch with Tory, our coach back then, and
she just seemed like just a really vibrant person and
(05:25):
like a really good coach, So I was keen to
come back. And yeah, honestly, ever since I've showed up,
definitely been the friendliest team or one of the most
friendliest teams I've ever been a part of. And they've
made the transition like seamless, So I couldn't have asked
for a better experience, And like, I've just kind of
really come in trying to give my all, like for
(05:48):
the club. I just really went the club to do
we because they've shown me nothing but like, you know,
friendliness and respect and just like the one to have
me here. So when you have a club that really
treats you that way, like you want to do as
much as you can for them as well. So that's
how I've felt the whole time that's been here. The
girls are amazing, They're funny, they're nice, they're great footballers.
(06:10):
So I think just like ending the season on a high,
and you know, winning the final would be an amazing
experience and an amazing story, and you know, I'd love
to help, you know, talking any way I can.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Wonderful. Emma Well I know a lot of people are
glad to have you here as well, and I think
