Speaker 1 (00:00):
As always we start with Bowls. Rod Leach, board member
at Bowls Wellington's back with us in studio this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Today Ross said, Adam, good to see you again, you.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Too, Okay, still fair few different bits and pieces happening
and shall we start with the over sixty singles?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yes, So we're played on Wednesday Thursday of this week.
We've got down to a semi final stage and that'll
be played on the finals weekend that we have later
in the year. But one semi final will be between
Phil Todd from Johnsonville and Adrian Brown from Silverstream. Now
Phil's also made the semi final the Peers with Wayne Coleman,
so he's starting to clog up that program a weebit,
(00:34):
so stuff may have to get played early. We're not
too sure, but we'll work our way through it. The
other semi final is Gary Murroway entered through martin Borough.
He will be playing Edgar blanch from Silverstream. It has
been around a long while and doing very old will
be playing at this level. It's great stuff. That's a
mixed tournament this event, so it's hoping to men and woman.
Aliet A Voulou who was last year's winner. She got
(00:54):
put out in the quarterfinals by Gary and a very
close game at twenty one seventeen, so she's had had
another good year with that.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
All right, good to hear it's nice and busy. What
about this weekend? No inter club of course, because he've
got open singles.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Open singles kerkoff this morning at greens all around the
valley and Wellington, with nine I being the headquarters for
Sunday and Monday play. They'll use other greens Sunday as well,
but they'll get down to about a quarter final stage
for Monday few. It's always hard to pick. We've got
two hundred players this weekend, one hundred and forty four
men and fifty six ladies. Always hard to pick a
winner in this, but there's a couple of look out
(01:25):
for Nevill Ryder, who playing through nine o' has come
back to the game, very accomplished player, won New Zealand
titles and Australian titles. Has made himself available for the
Rampton representative side, so we'll be having a good look
at him to see how he goes. He did play
singles for Wellington a number of years back but has
been off the scene. He gave it away for a
year or two. Another interesting section is Mike Carroll, the
(01:45):
co selector. He's in a section where he plays two
of our current representatives, Sam Allison and Ewan Wong. So
if Mike gets his way through there and gets down
to the nitty gritty, is a past winner. He might
be looking at playing and the rep stuff instead of
just selecting. But that could be a whole different story. Okay,
the women, Yeah, it's like I said, it's always hard,
but someone that's always knocking never quite won and never
(02:05):
you know, but it's very capable. Pam mlford from Plymouton
always gets out of the nitty gritty. This might just
be her year.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Okay, Well, all the best of everyone taking part and
well they here's some of those results and how things
are tracking next weekend and of course that means no
inter Club Rod. But it was a busy weekend for
all the inter club players last weekend. Do you want
to bring us up to speed with where things sit now?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, with the Laddies comp because we had a double hitter.
So there's only one round left which has been played
on the twentieth of December, which is really close to Christmas.
So maybe a few unavailable. The ladies competition has already
been won. The minor premiership we call it because it's
the first round. The top four qualify, but Johnsonville have
won that one hundred and forty nine points, silver Stream
one hundred and fourteen nine one hundred and two and
(02:46):
Plymoton wrapping up the top four one hundred sorry nine
one hundred and nine, Plymitton one hundred and two and
that wraps out the top four. But Stokes Valley are
on ninety eight and with a round to go, who
knows anything could happen there, so Plymington need to get
some results. Tarwar on eighty nine. They're only thirteen fourteen away.
That's two wins more than plymenting their need and they'd
have to do better than Stokes fairly as well, but
(03:07):
still obviously a chance. Bottom two teams get relegated, which
at this stage is definitely going to be Miramar and
it looks like a toss up between Hunt and Patoni
Central for the Ladies as to who will go down.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
All right, well, I wondered why you had a spring
in your step when you walked in, and that's because
of that Johnsonville result and probably almost pretty similar stuff
and the men.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Almost different story altogether here, Adam. They say it's moving
weekend with that double header, and John's will certainly moved,
but they moved in the wrong direction. They were leading
the competition. Of the six games played, they won one,
so they've dropped into third place. We now have Stokes
Valley back on top of one hundred and twenty five,
Victoria one one five, John's one, one hundred and six, Plymbton
one hundred and one, so that wraps up rounds out
(03:45):
the top four. Just a story with Johnsville. They last
year they were in a fairly commanding position with three
rounds that they go and didn't make the four, so
we're hoping there's not a repeat of that. But we've
got nine nine sorry tarwar on ninety eight, which huge chants. Again,
they're only three away from p limited, it's a huge
chance to make it nine twenty away from fourth. I
don't know that they'll be able to do it, So
(04:07):
they'll miss the four and that'll be the first time
in a few years that they've missed bottom two at
this stage. Waynui's on forty eight on the bottom looks
like they'll definitely go but Tony Central sixty six, but
Miramar sixty Nine's a big toss up between one of
those as to who will go.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Okay, Well, interesting weekend for them next weekend, then to
see on the twenty how they'll go on on on
the weekend, so look forward to that. Rod great to
catch up as always, Thanks very much, and we'll do
it one last time before Christmas next week.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
