Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's start as we always do though, with bowls on
a Saturday morning and studio once again, as Jason Puddock
warning to Jason morning, Adam, all right, well, we're keeping
our fingers crossed for the weather, aren't we always always
that the Wellington spring weather keeps us on our toes.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, it looks like there might be bettering a little
bit out of there today, but let's hope we just
get through no major casualties.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yeah, exactly. We can always be proven wrong or we
can prove the forecast wrong as well. But a couple
of notable results worth mentioning from around the country, i'd late.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah. So in the past week we had the Power
Bowls Championships down in christ Church and a couple of
great results out of there from the Wellington players. With
Peter Horn Hooksy from nine I everyone knows who hooks.
He is well known in the power bowls scene, picked
up the silver medal which was a great result, and
another result saw Anne Baker of Plymoton, a third year bowler,
(00:50):
picking up a bronze and the pears, which is fantastic
for her and early in her career. And both those
players will be playing in the Bowls Wellington Power events
later this month as well and down in Stoke. The
invitation pairs always was a pretty good field from around
the country and Wellington does pretty well in this s
Evna as well, and that continued with Robbie Byrd from
(01:11):
nine I and John Bryan from Stakes Valley picking up
the title this year, pocketing three k each. Not bad
for three days.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Work very good right on the Christmas as well well.
Congratulations to all of them. Great stuff. And we had
round two last weekends of Intero Club. How did the
men's results go?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Firstly, yeah, so again weather wasn't great, but where we
got through it Stakes Valley with a good win over
nine E fifteen to seven, Johnsonville beating Miramar fifteen to eight,
Plymoton fourteen to nine, victors over Victoria which is a
great result for them. Lyle Bay losing out in the
Battle of the Bay to Island Bay fourteen seven and
(01:49):
Tawa winning the Battle of the Promoted Teams fifteen to seven.
So some different results there and that leaves at the
moment and the playoff positions been the top four Stakes Vale,
nine Eye, Johnsonville and Victoria, which is the same top
four from last years. That might be a bitonymous, but
it's it is a close battle at the moment, and
in those relegation positions, with the positions you don't want
(02:10):
to be in. We've got Plymoton and Patoni CenTra at
this stage.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Okay, Well, im pored a couple of weeks for them,
in particular those latter two clubs said what about in
the women's competition.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
So in the women Tawa beat Plymoton fifteen to seven, Stakes,
Valley with a big win over Patoni Central twenty two
to two, Silverstream defeating nine I fifteen to seven, Miramar
a big win over Upper Heart twenty one point one,
and Victoria beating Johnsonville fourteen to eight. So in the
women's playoff positions currently we've got Stokes Valley, Silverstream, Victoria
(02:41):
and Mirama who are one of them newly promoted teams,
so great to see them up there in the bottom
two positions at this stage, we've got Upper Heart and Patoni.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Central wonderful okay, and a busy day ahead and we
said before weather permitting hopefully, but a couple of rounds
looking to be completed today and men's will talk them
first up.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, So two rounds today in the morning and one
in the afternoon, So a big moving day for a
few teams, I would think. And there's some certainly some
big battles going ahead. So in the men, Island Bay
will host Mirama, Plymoton hosting Tawer, Lyle Bay hosting Tony Central.
Johnsonville travel to Stakes Valley and that's one versus three,
(03:18):
so big clash. There could have been Match of the day,
but it's not oll Match of the morning. We're going
to call this one actually, So Match of the morning
is nine I versus Victoria two verses four. Both lost
last week but both this week have got Robbie Byrd
and Ray Martin back from Stoke and they're playing each
other in the singles. So a big battle there.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Wow, big games and that means they must be also
a Match of the afternoon coming up of the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yes, in the afternoon, Stakes Valley will host Lyle Bay,
Island Bay against nine Eye, Tawer versus Mirrama and PLATONI
Central versus Plymoton and Match of the afternoon and the
Men is Victoria versus Johnson This is four versus three
starting the day. Both have got tough games in the
(04:05):
morning with Victoria playing nine Eye in johnson will playing
Stakes Valley. So that's a real class of the top
four going on there across those two rounds. So some
big battles.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Coming up wonderful. Yeah, sounds good, and two rounds looking
to be completed in the women's competition as well today.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah. So in the morning, Johnsonville hosts Plymoton, Tawa host
nine I, Miramar against Potoni Central. Upperhart traveled to silver
Stream so that's a little bit of a local derby there,
but match of the morning for the woman for me
is Stakes Valley versus Victoria, which is one versus three.
So again some big, big games coming up.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah, great, and the women's will continue hopefully if that
rain holds off in the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah we are hoping. So in the afternoon we have
Upperharut hosting Johnsonville, Plymoton traveled to Victoria, Stakes Valley against
Tawa nine I versus Potoni Central, and silver Stream hosting
Miramar again starting the day that's second versus fourth, So
another top four clash which is as great to see
(05:07):
because it's going to produce some great bowls.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, and should be interesting with some of those table
permutations as well, right at this point of the season.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah, look after these two rounds, it'll get us four
out of the nines. Round Ryan Rands completed, So we're
almost halfway, and you certainly want to be putting yourself
in a position where you can either move up that
ladder or cement your position at the top, but certainly
you want to be staying out of that bottom too
as well. So certainly some big results coming up.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
