Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's begin as always through these summer months by chatting
bowls and Rod Leech, board member at Bowls Wellington, is
with us.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good ay, Rod, morning, Adam, how are.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
You very good?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Hope you've had a good week. There's lots happening in
bowls at the moment, isn't there? And the over sixties
Peers has been quite exciting these last few days.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yep. They kicked off and we're down to semifinals which
we hold over the semi finals in the final to
the finals weekend that we have in early April, same
with the champions champ events, and down to the semifinals.
We have Phil Todd and Wayne Coleman from Johnswall they
will play John Ford and John Carter from Hutt and
Bruce Miller and Trevor Ross from Johnswall are in the
(00:36):
other semi playing Brent Stubbins and Peter Smore from nine I,
with Brenton Peter being last year's winners. So they're doing well.
Just still be in that they're doing very well. Great
it could be a repeat, so yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
And so that you just give us the context the
over sixties Peers and we have talked about it the
last few weeks. In terms of you know, the different
trophies up for grabs through the summer, it's probably considered
one of the the more coveted ones.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah it is, because I mean it's over sixties. But
you look at that top team from Johnswall, that's both
those players premiere in nicclub players, So you know there's
some very highly highly qualified players playing in the over sixties.
I've had it on good authority that Gary Lawson is
now playing over sixties champs in Canterbury, So there we go,
yes and loving it from all accounts.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Fantastic, all right, we'll look forward to talking that those
the rest of those games coming in the sort of
later in the summer.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Late the season.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Open fours next on the agenda for a lot of people.
I'm sure, how did those entries that have come.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Through the open fours? We were slightly down, but not
not too dressfully. We have forty four men's teams and
twenty four ladies. I think that's a reduction of about
six teams in total that we're down, which you know
isn't great but and it'll be always great to see
more playing more out on the greens. Okay, great and
that begins next twenty ninth. Yep, twenty ninth.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Great, all right, looking forward to chatting that next weekend. Now,
a couple of Wellingtonians and amongst the crew in Hong
Kong part of the wider nationals that have set up.
And yeah, how those.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Results are makes results? So there, I mean we had
we had a great result with Aiden Takara are winning
the singles event. Aiden's playing out of Southland now, he
was Auckland for a while there, but now he's down
in Southland. Blake and the two girls didn't do too
well on the singles pears are on now and from
what I've heard, both groups are struggling a wee bit,
so they need to basically win every game from here
to make the top four to qualify.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Okay, we'll keep an eye on that over the weekend. Right,
let's go into club. Now, we'll start with the women's
and I'm sure is a Johnsonville club member, Rod, you've
got a smile on your face talking about talking to
women's results.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Very proud to announce that Johnsonvill the Lady is still
top of the table on ninety points, followed both Stokes
Valley seventy two, nine I sixty four, silver Stream sixty three,
tar With sixty Plymoton fifty three, Victoria forty six. Now
they're probably the seven that will contest. I mean, I
hope I don't upset Patoni Central and Merrimar, but they're
probably the seven that will contest the top four slots.
(02:43):
And you would think John's fall probably got top spot
almost wrapped up. We've had what five weeks now, so
we're beyond halfway.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Great and what have we got to look forward to today?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
The jaw this morning is Platoni Central play Stokes Valley.
You'd have to think Stokes Valley would win that. Plymoden
we've got Johnsavill. If Plymoden want to get themselves back
in the four, they need to beat Johnswell, but that'll
be a hard task. Tarboro played Victoria and now Victoria
are in seventh place, not that far away from the four,
but far enough that they'd have to beat Tarwar convincingly
to Morrow Doo to push for a spot on there.
(03:13):
Silverstream play Hart silver Stream you'd think would win that.
And nine Eye against Mirama and that's third against tenth,
so you'd picked nine Eye to win that.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
I would think Okay, that's how the women's camp looks
over in the men.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Over in the men, well, Johns will have done well again.
Actually they're not in first place, but they are catching
the leader stakes. Valley are on eighty six, johnsall on
seventy seven. Victoria have come from nowhere and slipped into
third on fifty nine, Plymington fifty seven, nine I fifty two,
Tarwar fifty two, Hut fifty one, Miramar forty three, PA
Tony Central forty two and why I knew he thirty six.
(03:46):
So there has been some changes in there. Victoria were
I think we're lying seventh before last round, and now
they are up into third. So Robbie Byrd is still out,
still out of action at the moment, still in hospital apparently,
and we're wishing and still wishing him all the best.
Draw nine I will play why Knui, so you'd have
to nine hour out of the four, so you'd think
here's their big chance to get back in because they're
playing bottom of the table. So you picked nine O
(04:08):
two in that Stokes Valley Victoria. Ray Martin has asked
me not to pick Victoria again because when I didn't
pick them last week, they won three nil.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
It's one plays three's. It's gonna be a tight guy.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
So I'd have to pick Stakes Valley because you'd think
they do do it, but yeah, who knows. When I
don't pick Victoria, they do very well. John's will Patoni
Central now Patoni Central, And now I got some work
to do. I didn't pick Johnsville last week and they
won three nil, So if I don't pick him again,
that could be a bit of reverse psychology and hopefully
it works again for them. Miramar Tawa Sara, we need
a win against Mirramada to push for top four spots,
(04:38):
and I think that could happen. And Plymington playing Hart
Plymuter are fourth to retain the spot. They'd want to
beat Hat and I'll pick that as well.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
All Right, Well, it's amazing the influence some of your
picks are having across the greens for ods, So even
though I'm getting the wrong, yeah, exactly, Well, here we go.
We'll look forward to seeing some of those results today.
Thanks as always.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Well chat next week, no problem at all.
