Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's start as always on the your sport Breakfast through
the summer by talking Bowls. Rod Leach, board member at
Bowls Wellington, back with us in studio this morning, Cold.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I Rod, morning, Adam. Good to be back again.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good to be with you and see a nice sort
of little late stretch of nice weather heading into the weekend,
which is which is good for inter club and obviously
we're a couple of rounds in now a couple of
weekends into the inter club rock to the Let us
know firstly with the women where things are at heading
into this weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
We've completed three rounds because the first week was a
double head and we had a single head of last
week well the we had we made way for the
mixed peers over laid weekend, but we've now had three rounds.
The ladies table, Johns will have shout out to a
nine point lead over Stokes Valley with nine iron Tara
making up the top four, followed by Victoria, Plymington, Silver Stream,

(00:44):
mirramar Tony Central and Hartnet Pattonian Central and I've still
got that game to catch up, but they are slipping
to bottom of the table and I need some big
results to get that moved great.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
All right, Well where that sits? I see there's a
couple of exciting games on the agenda for the women today.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Years because Stokes Valley are playing Johnswill, so that's the
top of the table clash, Paula Meredith up against Angela
Signals and that's the two ladies that were in the
final of the mixed pairs, so that will be hotly contested.
The other Hut play Victoria, so Victoria could cement their
way back into the top fourth they get a good
win there Silverstream, but Tony Central I'd like to think

(01:21):
Silverstream would win that. Mirramar Plymoton. That's a game that
could possibly go either way, but I'd back Plymoton and
nine I Tawa. That's third play fourth. I think I'm
picking nine E to come out on top of that one.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Okay, looking forward to those games and the men, how
does that table.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Look the men? Yes, well, Stokes Valley have certainly shot clear.
They've shot clear by nineteen points. Now that's quite an
achievement because last week they had four away at the
Stoke Pears, so they had four players come up from
different divisions, but they still beat Mirramar three Nils, so
that was a great result. They'd lead on fifty eight points.
Johnsville have shot into second by benning y Nui three nil.
They've gone to thirty nine then followed by nine Eye, Plymoton,

(01:59):
Tony Central, Tawa, Victoria, Mirramar and Hut Now from second
to ninth. There's only ten points separating the team, so
that's wide open their.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
I guess that doesn't mean that someone has a tough
ask of meeting Stokes Valley today though, yes.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Indeed Stokes Valley have got why knuis. So it's the
top of the table vers bottom of the table, so
you could only really pick that to go one way. Nine.
I will play Miramar now nine Hour back to full
strength because they had a player or two away last
week as well. They are there in the top four.
I think they'll meant this spot there. Tony Central playing
Hut but Tony Central I picked up this week as

(02:34):
I've got a phone call Saturday afternoon saying I didn't
pick them last week and they actually beat nine Nights,
so there you go. Hopefully I won't need the phone
call again. Victoria played Plymoton. That's Victoria behind Plymoted on
the table, but I think Victoria Duty come right. They
had Ray Martin away last week. He's back on deck
playing the singles and Johnsonville played Tawa, so yeah, that's

(02:56):
I'd like to think that would go Johnsvill's way.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
All right, looking forward to those game through the day.
We'll have some score updates and results here on NEWSTALKSZB
through the course of the day as well. Penet's competition rods.
Should we start with the men?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yep, start with the men. We've had three rounds. Now
Island Bays still lead the men in Wellington, followed by
Johnsall Plymoton, Tedi Bay, Victoria and Mirama Island Bay haven't
played johns Well yet, so that'll be a big class
woman that comes around. We've only had the three rounds
so I'm not too sure what week we play them,
but it can't be fair Away. And in the hut
men nine I lead over Hut nine, IEM fourteen, Hut

(03:29):
On twelve, sial Stream eleven up out ten, so that's
wide open Stokes Valley and why who bring out the
bottom of that table on four and three respectively.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Okay, great, and the women's penets and know some results
still to come in on from here.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, we've got a round. We've got results from two rounds. Now,
the ladies played a wee bit differently than the men.
I mean it's still a game of balls, but they
have ten teams in the competition and it's a round robin.
Their scoring system is very similar to inter club. If
they win by more than eleven they get a bonus point,
so there's eight points up for grab each round just
for the for the one team they're plymoting and had

(04:00):
two wins with two bonus points, so they lead Tony
Central on fourteen, Miramar on fourteen, nine, Ie on seven,
are Pout seven, Victoria seven, Island Bay seven and then
tarwar John's Fall on one and wyew We on zero.
So still veryly in the season when two rounds is
six eight to go grat seven ago sorry awesome.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Well, plenty of local bowls happening and obviously overseas we're
keeping an eye on one of our top young bowlers
in Wellington, Finbarr mcgwigan in Malaysia.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Finbar, Yeah, he's in over there in the World Cup.
He possibly his TV game the other night with possibly
one who'd like to forget. They drew the first set
where they play sets over there five in sets. It
was in the Peers. I think they drew the first
set five all with Hong Kong. Second set they were
seven to up playing the last which is a game
they should have won, dropped a five to draw and

(04:46):
then lost on the tie break, so they didn't have
a good trot in the Peers. Him and Canu. Finbar's
up into the singles now he's won one and lost one.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
And Roger you mentioned you refer to them before a
few of those Stokes Valley players had they down in
Nelson at the Stoke Pear. Any results to report from.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
That, Yes, it was a very very prestigious tournaments, some
very high ranked teams playing in it. Robbie Burton, John
Bryan won up last year which was a great result.
They got put out in the quarters this year, which
is even another great result from the two of them.
So yeah, very good result from the You know, John's
on the fringe of our web side. Robbie's in there.
Whether he stays, we'll wait and see, but he's doing

(05:21):
himself no harm.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
All right, very good And to wrap up over sixties pairs,
a bit of a call out for people to get
their names in for this one.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Yeah, that closes on Monday. We've got thirty nine entries
to date, which is down slightly on last year. It's
an open gendered event that he can be mixed, men, ladies, whatever.
We'd love to see more teams in it. It's taken
off well over previous years. We'd hat to see it
start dropping away all right, So if you're thinking about it,
get your entry.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
In absolutely Bye Monday, Thanks very much, Rod, great to
catch up. You have a wonderful weekend.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Thank you, Adam.
