Speaker 1 (00:00):
For the final time this year. Hello Ellis Braiding, Good
morning Louke. How were the Special Olympics?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Oh? So good, so so good. I absolutely loved it.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Sometimes I sit here in the morning and I wonder
if anybody is actually out there. The nature of one
way radio, right, You know how many calls I got
with that. We faux pa a fortnight ago where I asked,
have we got any mid Canterbury locals competing in the
Special Olympics And you said no, I don't think so
phone went ballistic. So it's quite flattering in a way.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
It's really good. It's actually I've been waiting for, to
be fair, I've been waiting for a picture with all.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Our What's in the courier today? Oh?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Perfect?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah, there's a fabulous rider because we did well. Not
too bored everybody with a multitude of results. You can
read all about it in the Courier. But Coach Colleen,
as you mentioned the other day, Ala Gardner gold in
the twenty five meter breaststroke, backstroke and then silver in
the relay Dominika. But there be it. Yeah, clearly I'm
(01:00):
on my way out for the year. Cotton gold in
the freestyle, Treven Nish did pretty well and in Boscher
doubles Peer Peter Judge and Pete Thompson winning gold. Yeah,
and then there was Joey Enenwood and Stu Chesmar who
won bronze and they were up against all North Island
teams as well, so that it was huge.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
It was massive. I was here on the first first
day and the pole doing the marshaling, and I mean
I get to got to talk to a lot of
the athletes and I was sat next to Ala Gardner
and I looked at the bit of paper at Seed
Mid Canterbury, so we had a great conversation. We had
lots in common both fourth child both went to him
out that college, so we got chadding and it was
(01:42):
really really special. Few of the Crusaders boys came down
as well and the kacked us out of our spots
to do some timekeeping and things, which was really fun
for the athletes there as well.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Around the competition, I wonder if anybody was brave enough
to take on that new water slide, the one where
you're free fall for about ten meters before you get
picked up that facility. Does it live up to the hype?
Speaker 2 (02:02):
It was pretty also I was lucky enough to go
along and do the hydros as like a load testing.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
So to god to go and is that a compliment?
I did not.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, this is let's seeing people we know in case
something goes wrong. No, it was. It was really fun.
The hydros were really fun. The kids loved it.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
So yeah, the next couple of weeks, Yeah, if you
got for a road trip, maybe leave it to after
New Year. Wheah, novel.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I did not try the trap door.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Trap door, that's what it's called.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yes, I did not. I'm not that cool.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, but yeah, hey said this morning to a final
catch up of the year. So a chance to look
back on what has been one heck of a twelve
months for local sport, kicking goals left, right and center.
What's top of mine for you?
Speaker 2 (02:50):
It has been a huge year and there's just honestly
so many things and I will no doubt miss something
where someone's thinking, why didn't you mention that? But for me,
top of the mind is our rugby A hammer is
winning the Meats Cup. Pretty hard to to not mention that.
I know we covered it quite a bit, but it's
a bit of a historic one really.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Just a neat team of role models, you know, the
win that we that we deserved, that home crowd.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Unbeaten home crowd, like you say, having it here, and
I think as well, a big, big fit thing around
that was the way Mid Canby Rugby involved the community.
It was so much more than just the rugby game.
It was really about mid Cannabury and doing it for
the region and doing it for the community. So that's
a big one. That's a big, big positive for me.
(03:40):
Another cool thing that happened this year was a netball
Mount Summer's winning Preme one for the first time, I think,
a bit different, kick Green out of their winning streak,
which you know, I'm part of the Green team many
years throw and through. But it was pretty cool to
see an underdog story. Yeah, who doesn't love an underdog store?
(04:00):
That's pretty cool. How about how we held the National
Indoor Bowls Champs here?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Oh yeah, there was a pretty EA center. It was
at the ridiculous number of people through.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Over six hundred players were part of that's all jammed
into EA and obviously we had our local champs Matt Bessett,
Michael Lawson and Simon Thomas all did really well. EA
also packed in lots of kids for the under fourteen
Southern Regional Basketball Champs earlier in this year, which was
(04:32):
a huge number of kids under fourteen basketballers. Yeah, for
that Southern Regional comp. So it's been pretty pretty buzzing
there at different times throughout twenty twenty five for sport.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I mean so much. What are your plans for Christmas?
Speaker 2 (04:46):
My plans for Christmas eat lots, future couched to the
sun and then in rotation and just yeah, just be
with family.
