It's showtime! The Ashburton A&P Show is on today and tomorrow, gates open both days from 9am. Luke caught up with Carmen Lye from the organising committee to ask what she's looking forward to.

It is show day, sure is yeah good.

I was down there yesterday hanging out with the celebrity
shares as they were getting some practice in and I
saw tent city going up and I thought, ah, you
poor things having to set up in the northwester But
it wasn't anywhere near as bad as last year.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Oh yeah, blew up pretty strong last year. But yeah,
it's looking great today.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Isn't that the med service of picking showers fake news around?
It's getting better and then tomorrow looks gorgeous as well.
So what can we look forward to?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, today we've actually got the Clash of the Colleges.
I've heard a bit about this, Yeah, like your egg
and hot classes.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Is it like a mini young farmer competition?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, kind of in the style of amazing race. So
they're racing around neat the place, doing all different things
and competing against each other.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
So the two hundred students involved here a.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yes, it's quite a big thing. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Got a few local entries, yeah we have.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I mean Ashburton College is in it again this year,
and Methin Mount hat College of course. But there's also
some other people coming from christ Church and tomorrow down
south as well.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Nice sixteen modules all up that they're tasked with it
and what it starts at nine to thirty, Yes it does.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Is that in the main ring?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
It is in the main Ring, Yes, yep, so that'll
be quite quite a good challenge there and there's a
lot of local people involved in that as well, doing
the different modules. So yeah, go on and watch that.

Good luck. What else are you looking forward to?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Oh gosh, do you know what I'm actually really looking
forward to, which is, yeah, is the Valet valet black
black nose sheep or black if you google valet sheep
or black nose sheep or even cutest sheep in the world.
We've actually got them in the animal tent.

And then yes, it's where have they come from?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I don't know where they've come from, but I'm just
a little bit worried that they might not be there
by the end of the show, because I mean everybody
will just want.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
To take one with Wow. Oh that's nat.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, it's in the animal shed, which is there's heaps
of animals in there for kids to pat and feed,
and there's some eels that ears are always a big
thing there as well.

It's funny, you know, we always bang on about the
new innovations and the machinery and the attractions and whatnot,
but sometimes all else wants to do is just go
along and see a pig and a horse and you know,
pat a bunny exactly.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
And I love watching the dog trials, yeah, I actually do.
I know it's pretty old school, but I love watching
the dogs do.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
It is the height of it too, because it's the
trends testman, it is.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, and afternoon. Yeah, so that's quite that's bringing in
quite a crowd as well. It's a good competition. Yeah,
so the animals are huge. And of course we've got
free Friday night as well.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Free Friday. How's this work?
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Well, the gate entry is going to be free from
five to eight into the fun you know the show.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
The side joke side show area. That's the one the
cannibal ride.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yeah, so there's going to be some food in that
there as well. But I'm bring your fish and chaps
and the kids and just yeah, have a bit of
a taste of what show life's like. Yeah.

Right, if there's some fairy stuff then I might be
going for that on the advice of Kushler Holdaway to
line the stomach ahead of the chili eating. Oh yes tomorrow,
which I hear that you've got a hand done actually
the way. Also hear that you've got a bit of
chili expertise.

I have a little bit of chili expertise, not quite
enough to be sitting on the chair like you.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
You grow them, yeah, yeah, yeah, we do grow.

Yes, yeah. We get seats from all over the world
and grow them.

What's the hottest one you've grown.

I don't know the name of it. My husband's the expert.

I've all got crazy names like ghost scorpion.

Yeah, yeah, no, I've heard that one of the one
of the hottest ones in the world is going to
be here tomorrow and it's the chocolate Yes.

Jay told us about that, the chocolate California Reaper or something. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
we're tasked with the oh man.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yes. So you guys that you guys, including you, you're
still doing it at you you guys are going to
be eating hole Chilly's as well as having the sauce.
So yeah, that's going to be really fun to watch.
