Speaker 1 (00:01):
But first is the weather is starting to come good
and the days are getting longer. Out come the high
vis vest as we get stuck into improving our roads.
There's a whole bunch of stuff that gets underway this week.
From MCTA Chris Chambers.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Morning, Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Just start of the construction season for the state highways,
specially around mc cannery starting today.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
So let's the big one is going to be right
in the center of town here between South Street and
the bridge. So what's that the BCN the bridge past
the new Walworth's there.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, that's correct. So the works that started the actually
started last night. That's from South Street to just south
north of the Ashburton Bridge. Works for happening there Sunday
to Thursday nights at the moment, and that's the last
of that project. Expected to take about two weeks to complete.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, on that project, I remember cruise with it earlier
in the year, So so why are you back?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
That's correct. Pause of works just stood at the winter
season and ideal temperatures, so now it's the right time
to do the works.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
And what's left to do just that.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Section that we just spoke about from South Street to
the bridge, removing the existing pavement and just rebuilding it.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Oh okay, so there's going to be a bit of milling,
bit a heavy artillery there.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
That's right for the milling, removing the service and just
relaying the ash.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Out credit to your cruise for doing the guts of
the work at night between eight pm and six a m.
And what we can expect delays around ten minutes during
that period.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah, ten to sustained minutes is likely to be seen
there understop go single lane traffic. So do you think
there will be some delays to.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Traveling metazone and what else is going on.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
We've also got a site that's starting today at on
State Highway seventy seven.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
It's the Meath and Highway is.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
It mess Of and Highway just past the Ashbelde and
Staveley Bridge Road. We've got a road rehabilitation work just
on the corner, probably around four weeks work again understop
go sing lane traffic. If you're traveling to Messvan or
from messmin Deshburden, just just expect ten to fifteen minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
To last year as well, and then somehow we've still
got staff available to get stuck in at that site
of ealing, which is the site of the Ringotata bridge
that seems to have been causing you guys a bit
of while over the years.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yes, we've got the remainder of that works to be
completed north of the Rangatata Bridge, and we're actually going
through the passing lane as well for the stage of
the works, widening the parsing lane slightly wider, just to
create that more safer, wider scent line zone through the
passing lane.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
As well, which is great so for our regular commuters
to Timaru and vice versa. How much extra time do
we need to build into our schedule.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Here ten to fifteen minutes generally the works south of
Eshburnen during the day, whereas the works that we spoke
about earlier within eshbur obviously at night. So if you're
traveling south of esh In two temporary place, ten to
fifteen minutes of additional travel at the time, So probably
the end of November, middle of December.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, good stuff and respect all those roading crews that
are out there doing the hard mahi to make those
roads a better place. Lots going on. You can find
the details as well on the Enzta Journey Planner website.
