Speaker 1 (00:00):
Slip slide. Despite what Monther nature is throwing at us
at the moment, summer is on its way. The Cricket
a reminder of that. Also something that popped up on
the community Facebook page yesterday outfit called Slip and Slide
asking for places to put a giant water slide. Say
what tickled by this? We say hi to Emily Rutherford. Hi,

(00:22):
how are you, Luke good? Tell us about the giant
water slide.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, So basically I have this. It's the enormous water slide,
which it's basically like taking the classic keiwe backyard slip
and slide and making it one hundred times bigger.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
How big?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
And so I have actually two hundred meters of slide,
but they're in twenty five twenty five meter lot, so
I can have it sort of either fifty meters or
seventy five meters or hundred or after two hundred meters long,
depending on how big the hill is that we can
find to put this slide on. So I'm really wanting

(01:00):
to do an event in Canterbury this summer, and I'm
trying to find an appropriate location to put the giant
slipping slade.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Well, the most obvious spot I can think of is
the slope by EA Networks Center, where we've wanted to
put a hydra slide for goodness knows how many years.
So this is a nice alternative. I'm not sure if
it would be big enough though. How much run do
we need?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I think to make it decent, you want the hill
to be at least fIF three meters long, and then
you can put another as there's flat at the bottom
so people can come to a stop. Then you can
put another twenty five meters at the bottom for people
to come to stop. And then there's a big ten
inflatable pool that attaches to that well wet.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
And while down at lake Hood would be cool coming
off the slide into the lake, it's not awfully hilly
there though. Could we make like an artificial ramp? Was
it too much? Evan?

Speaker 2 (01:53):
I actually did meet with the guys at lake Hood
about a year or two ago about that, so I
have been interested in doing something there too. Yes, it
isn't quite steep enough, so it would be a bit
of a trickier setup, but we could potentially put a
giant inflatable tower on the hill and then yeah, then

(02:15):
you go off the inflatable tower into the lake. So
that is another option too.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
I see that working because you're the same Emily that
runs that aquatic park, that inflatable aquatic park at Cromwell
in Lake Duns today.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yes, I am so. I run the inflate water park
in Cromwell and then the giant slip insides is kind
of my secondary business.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I think of wedday jobs up at Mount Heart that
could be cool.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, there would be a bit cold though, hey.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
In the middle of summer, but gravelly though, we need
to put something down for a softer landing. How serious
are you about bringing this to Ashburton? Is this just
slip service?

Speaker 2 (02:57):
No? I definitely. I mean I'm really looking for somewhere
around Ashpirdin or christ Church that would be suitable. We
definitely want to do something in Canterbury this summer, so
it's just about finding the right location and obviously having
the council obviously be pro it as well. So yeah,
that's the key.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Really, let's get at the side of the Rakai Bridge.
I'm very tickled by this. Is it just for the
wee kits or Dad's allowed on this as well? And
in which case do you make us do a special
test because I'm sure like many dads, I get excited
about the idea and then we give it a crack
and then there could be a long road to recovery.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Oh no, I mean we've had to slide out in
Auckland last summer and in Cleanstown as well. And yeah,
we have just as many adults as kids, and that's
the same with our water park in Cromwell. We actually
get more adults and kids than Cromwell. Yeah. So yeah,
it's really heavy duty stuff. It's absolutely enormous and it's
very very heavy duty this slide.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
So it's not worried about it's the dude that's sliding
down it.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
And that's very hard to hurt yourself because you were
you sit on an inflatable tube and then there's a
massive inflatable pull at the bottom, which is you crash into.
So we get barely any injuries on this thing. Like
you'd beat you'd have to really really mack up to
hurt yourself.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Very wrong, don't make it a dear, Emily. No, look,
I'm very tickled by this, as I'm sure you are
listening as well. So that post is on our Eshburten
community Facebook page. If you've got some bright ideas that
maybe I haven't come up with of locations for this thing,
would be very cool to have it in our backyard
in the coming summer months. Cheers for filling us in EMILYE.
