Speaker 1 (00:02):
Tomorrow sure to be a great day down at the
EA Networks Center as it's playing host to the Move Well,
Age Well Expo from Safe for Mid Canterbury. Leslie Simington, Hi, Hi,
look how are you? You're good? Tell us about the expo?
What's this all about?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
So the expos on tomorrow, as you say, it's from
nine to twelve down at the EA Networks Center on
River Terrace, and it's aimed at older people and it
looks at things like why people fall over? What are
the causes of falls as you get older? It could
be your eyesight, it could be your hearing, it could
be you've got hazards in the home, like you're tripping
(00:39):
over mats and things like that. And it's also an
opportunity to see and have a go at lots of
different classes that are around our local communities that are
really good for building up strengths and mobility as people
get older.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
The stuff that helps keep us up right and moving.
I see you've got about eleven agencies joining you. So
what some of the stuff on show?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yep. So we've got people like Saint John are going
to be there with their home medical alarms to talk
to people about both. We have specsavers are there so
that because our hearing insight is important as well. We've
got a sport canter free there. They're going to be
doing balance testing and EA Networks themselves their staff will
(01:24):
be there doing testing and doing grip strength testing. So
there's lots of things to have a go at. You
can have a go free at to acquisize. There's a
tai chi class and a couple of steady as you
go classes that are going to be on at the
same time that people can just join in or watch
whatever they'd like to do. So, yeah, lots going on,
(01:44):
lots of giveaways, lots of information.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
You had me at giveaways. I feel like you've run
this before. Is it a proven concept?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yes, we have. It's probably a year four now of
running this. We've started at the library. This year's a
big change for us. We're moving over to the EA
Network Center. We think because those guys do some brilliant
stuff for older people. It's a good opportunity for them
to showcase what's on down at that center for our
older community. And they host a lot of things in
(02:15):
the one of which I've never heard of walking netball before. Yes,
so there's an opportunity to if you're more sporty focused
rather than exercise class focus, to have a look and
have a go at some of those sorts of activities
down at the center as well.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
This will take all you surprised, Leslie, I've been lucky
enough to ever go at both pick a ball and
backing netball. I reckon it's tougher than regular netball. Probably
all you want to do is move quickly, but you're
not allowed to.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yes, yes, exactly, you exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Discipline well, that's something wonderful to discover and everything else
that's on show with the Move Well, Age Well Expo.
It is on tomorrow from nine am until twelve pm
at the EA Network Center and it's free
