A doctor advocating against the End of Life Choice Actl is concerned it doesn't let doctors have a say.
Palliative care doctor and University of Otago clinical senior lecturer Amanda Landers says it feels like an incoming freight train.
She joined Kerre McIvor for an hour of talk back on the referendum, and says the Bill should have more reference to the medics who it affects.
"A lack of safeguards, no real consultation with medicine, no real consultation with nurses or pharmacists who are also named in the act."
Landers also thinks the bill would place an unfair burden on doctors. She says that doctors can refuse to administer the procedure, but they still have to link the patient up with someone who will.
"That's like leaving a loaded gun in the House. And after that point, there's nothing I can do. I can't say to the person, please give me a bit more time to make this better for you."
