Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the Flavor Podcast Network, the Flavor Breakfast Podcast with
stace A, Zarah and Charlie.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, so welcoming into the studio to people who you
know from and the ring. You know they are fighting
hard all the time. Please, first of all, could you
welcome Joseph Barker and oh this is exciting as well
as David Nick. You're welcome here. So, Joseph, I think
(00:28):
you got some news for us and you're probably the
best person to announce it here on the radio at Flavor.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
You know what, We've got a young as young you're
a challenged fighter and who who are promoting and that's
going to be my first event with David Higgins and
Duco Events and north Thornbree to promote David Aker here
in New Zealand. Want to put on a big show
September fourteenth, and we're very excited about this prospect of
(00:55):
building him up to become champion of the World and
bring it back to New Zealand in the world.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Yes, snatch it off the world then.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, that is what's going to happen. So this is
a new era for you, Joseph though, So you're basically
this is you going into like kind of joining forces
and being a manager a leader. Is this what's happening here?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, being a co promoter for this event. I've always
had the interest in boxing, and thankfully to David Higgins
for guiding my career, being my promoter at first, and
now he's my manager and we're doing this event together.
And I've always just what it takes to put on
an event like this, you know, and what it takes
to take a fighter like David and Acre from here
to the top of the world. And the business side
(01:33):
of it, you know, the sponsorship, the tickets, the corporates,
the venue. There's so many things involved in putting on
the show, and I'm here to learn it all.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Wow, But this is the next step after boxing. You
see yourself as a promoter. Do you sort of have
an appreciation for what they do? You know, because as
a fighter, you don't really see much of the promotion
side of things, right, it's just or do you?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
As a fighter, I've been very blessed and fortunate that
David has shown me along the way, But you don't
really appreciate it until you're involved, and you don't know
what it takes. So there's so many things involved. There's
so many other people involved in making it happen, but
you just don't see it when you're a fighter.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
I love that you're taking autonomy. It's your mana ma'so hackey.
You're coming through. And for you, David, I mean, you're unbeaten.
You've got nine to iers expecial twenty eight. That's all
that you are. I mean, there's so many good things
happened because I remember you're in the Olympics and that's
coming around again. You got a bronze medal to Commonwealth
Games gold medals as well. You signing this multi fight
deal with Duco Events. What does it mean for you?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
It's an opportunity to bring big time boxing back to
New Zealand. And once we do start getting those titles,
you know, we can start bringing them back here and
putting on big shows here. And you know, with the
streaming platform of the Zonne, it's global, it's global, so
everyone can see that, everyone can see that we're creating
a fuss in Auckland.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
So this is a huge opportunity to showcase my hard
work and you know all the years of sacrifice I've
put into the sport and obviously having Joseph as Joseph
has always been a mentor of mine, but having him
officially as you know, a part of this, this this vehicle,
(03:13):
now I feel like we're going to go all the way.
And uh, you know, Douko has been putting in work
for the last eighteen months that I'm aware of to
put this first show on and to put this this
uh this multi fight deal together. So we're going to
get an amazing show. I'm going to put on an
amazing performance and hopefully the undercard can deliver as well.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I feel like in the beginning when I signed with Duco,
I was I don't really achieve what David achieved as
an amateur, so it was quite hard because no one
really knew how it was. But they had to pump
out a lot of media stuff. Whereas David has achieved
a lot more in the amateur game, right and he's
got a he's got a name.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, yeah, it's a lot more memorable.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Face a name as the body. Thanks thanks David.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
But as this is, this is the dream scenario, the
reality of fights.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
You have the best fighter on the best cruiseway. He's
going to be champion. Of the world.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
I know, I know that for a fact. You are
I know, I know that for a fact.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
What is it like when you go overseas, David, and
you walk into this, you know, big arena, you know
what is How overwhelming is that and how does that
impact your performances? And will it make a difference being
at home.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
To be honest, I've I've always felt like an underdog
when I go overseas and it's I enjoy it, I
really really like it. Coming home is going to be
different because you guys that you guys are singing my
praise as you guys are saying you're going to be
the next world champion. I've got to put in the work.
I've got to put in the work. I need to
shut everything out. When I leave here, I go back
to training and I've got to put my head down
(04:50):
on my tail up.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
So and that underdog status actually works for.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
You, it works for me.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Yeah, So this is this will be tough. This will
be a challenge because I love being and someone else
his backyard. But to come back to New Zealand and
to be able to put on for for uh, you know,
my fans. Uh, there's a lot of pressure.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, expectations are yeah, you're going to do this. This
is what you know we want from you. This is
what we do to everyone. W Joseph, we go you're
gonna win when Yeah, you.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Guys seen as Elpha say, wears the ring like different themes, uniforms.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
What's the next one?
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (05:25):
What do you want?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
But oh yes, Actually what you guys couldn't see before
is that you tried on these gladiators are armbands. Yeah
you're vibing with those?
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Yeah, why did you take it off?
Speaker 4 (05:39):
I don't know, you guys maybe feel a little well,
I mean, without it was a lot about weird.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
But but I'm saying, like you say, Joseph, he doesn't
mind a theme? Does manadress up? So that could work.
You know, this is the home of Hercules and so
you could go with that, right.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yea?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
What color though?
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, no dipsy here. We just want that winning color
and tell us about the event. So Saturday fourteenth of September.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
September, we've got David as the main event, and we've
got a great undercard which we're going to be excited
to announce in a few weeks, and it's going to
be this is going to be a great event, field
of action, filled with a great buzz, and everyone's going
to see David Naker here back in New Zealand putting
on a great show.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Nice of the Viaduct Event Center and Tom mckimikodo. It's
a black tie red carpet event bringing the glamour back
to boxing. So Kelda quarterback, We've got a little challenge
for you, up to going in the ring in a
different way, in a musical sense.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Oh right, yeah, he's ready for it.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, who will be taking this out?
Speaker 1 (06:40):
David?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
This is just yours.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
So what.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You're going to go into a game?
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Don't worry, groovy, let's do it. Reg what what fire?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
So they used to a different ring, but now please
can we have that ring? Announcements for the next.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Contenders, Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls from around the world,
all the million viewers playing in the ring this morning.
We have David Nika and Joseph Parker.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Well, he's pitching for a job and now that you
know you're kind of the boss guy, Joseph, you see
what you want to do there? Okay, So this is
how it works beause I'm the referet. So basically, you
just need to listen to the instrumental and as soon
as you know the answer, the name of the song
and the artists, you say your name. What's your name said?
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Quick, Jose?
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Are you going to say your whole name? Okay, you
didn't talk about itself in the third person, Just say.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Your first name?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, whatever you say, okay, as long as you know,
then that's your buzzer. Okay. So you hear the stream
into and then you sound your buzzer, and then you
name the song. Theaters are you really do? We all understand?
Touch gloves okay, right to.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Your corners, to your corners, all right?
Speaker 5 (08:10):
Round one fight.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Changes.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yeah, there's a t k O rules okay, yeah, yeah, yeah,
this is what you're supposed to be saying to him.
You know, you want your fighter to be playing clean here, okay, track.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Number two, take your time here, Let's take your time here.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
There we go, huge.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Listen. I wish I knew the sea, I wish I know.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Sing then okay, okay, okay, I think give that.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
You got the song.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
You got the song.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I would have given you a big beginnergy by Letto
or actually, yeah, there's a couple of remixes. I would
have given you, but no, always have to go back
to the corner.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
So I feel that there's a bit of a concussion
going on. Yeah, back to the.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Corner, Denny account right, yeah, okay, so let's see how
we go with track number three. Yes, yes, what place
in the world is it?
Speaker 1 (09:41):
The place in America?
Speaker 2 (09:42):
You would have been nice? Okay, So I can just
put you guys in the okay, and just the last one.
Come on, I believe you in, David, you got this, okay?
Are you ready? This is classic. So it's all about
the speed of the drawer. Track number four, I know

Speaker 1 (10:16):

me here, Yes, I just want to I just want
to love you baby.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yes, come on?
Speaker 5 (10:23):
And who is it.
Speaker 1 (10:27):

Speaker 3 (10:27):
We we are not good to others?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yes, okay, so that was.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
A half a point one half each.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
I sort of think that we're gonna we're gonna keep
it as the contenders, but slightly here it is Joseph Park.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Good. Good.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
