Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Flavor Podcast Network. You're listening to Stacissura and Charlie's
off the record, what's your record? After record?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
When we talk about things that we didn't talk about
on the radio. And actually, I don't know how well
this is going to translate because it's quite a visual thing.
What do you reckon?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yeah, you're right, we're doing about sign language, so you
really need to see this. And the reason why we're
talking about this is because Stace's Lovely hasband came into
the studio this morning to see Stace.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Obviously, no, no, no, it was actually to pick up
my daughter's school bait that she'd left in my car,
which was my fault. Not so yeah, he came rounding,
but he'd been at jiu jitsu, so he's outside the window.
We might have footage on our cameras actually of you,
and I want to bring producer Enter in here, so
I should tell you Scotty does no sign language because
(00:53):
his brother's profoundly deaf from birth. So they sign a
bit and how did it go for you? And he's
trying to sign through the big window.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Well, Scotty was being really nice and asking if we
wanted a coffee and I was trying to be like say, na,
say no, I'm all good like nice, and I gave
him a two thumbs up, which obviously is saying yeah,
I want one. But then I didn't want to be
like na, na NA, don't like, don't give me one
because it might come across the road.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
So you didn't want to do the cut throat sign,
which would be nah. Or you could have just put
your hands and wave them in front of you go
no thanks and have a smiley face. But you go
thumbs up. So then what did he say? Well say
as in sign language and response, it was.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Just a lot of a job. It was just jumble.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
It was just he had his hands out there like
he's juggling, like, bro, what is it that you want?
You want a coffee?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
And how did he ask you through the window? Was
sign language if you want to come?
Speaker 1 (01:48):
So he goes to me right, so you know when
he's no, try, it's giving their flat you're giving their
flat like no, like no try a flat sign. And
then he was wearing these white pants for g is
that is what it's called jitsu. So he goes flat
no and he points his white gi like so I
(02:08):
knew straight away that he was saying.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Flat white and then did a drink symbol.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
He did a drink symbol. But then this is what
I'm like today, I've learned that a lot of people
don't really understand I don't understand sign language, right. But
then you had old Boss Mighty come through the door.
It's like, oh did Scotty gives Scotty a mana wave
and then he automatically thinks that Scott is asking, like
doing the man a wave back to him, but Scotty
is doing the drink sign, you know, the cup to
(02:32):
the mouth, and he's waving at Scotty and Scott's like, oh,
brand these guy's just get the assignment, bron He just
walks and gets his coffee.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
It's like I've done, I'll just give coffee.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
So because Scotty's brother, Kempbell as deaf, you know, they
use sign a lot and I did too, but I
don't know proper sign, so it's kind of it's called
home sign. So like he makes some things up like ugly,
just like pull your face apart kind of thing, you know,
something easy like woman, which is like the shape of
a woman. But then it's actually handy when we are
(03:02):
at things. Obviously, Scotty will be standing by the door
and you'll clap his hands and kind of throw them
out like that means we're off.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
We're off, you see, Yeah, we're off. So so this
when it comes to sign language, these proper sign.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Language and then in the home sign.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Home signs, so it's almost like pigeon yeah style.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's sort of like charades. And so when you see juggling,
that's like what, you know, what is happening. And in
something like happy Birthday, it's just like you're just sort
of showing that you're singing a song. Can yeah, happy
birthday to you, Happy birthday to you. It's a birthday.
And so some of them are kind of obvious. But
I always love watching the people who are sign language
interpreters on TV, like say when politicians or or when
(03:42):
you know, during COVID and everything, Alan, what a start,
let's see.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
But this is the thing. When you got the you've
got the professional guys that are doing all the in
a sign language. But you know, there's actually been some
guys that being caught up for fraud. It's not sign
I've seen people doing these little sign like gang signs.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Although and Also, people can be very direct because you
know that they've just that they've got, you know, their
way of expressing themselves. And a woman I know who's
a sign language interrepretereur, she said, someone said to her
in Oh, he knew who she was, and then he
put his three fingers on top of his forehead and
that's how he remembers her because he says, you've got
(04:24):
you know, you always have big lines on your forehead.
Was like, wow in any language that is not okay.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
